Abstract In this study, we used desert soil from Gansu, China, as a sample to propose a method for designing hyperspectral stealth coatings against desert soil backgrounds within the spectral range of 400–2500 nm, and the corresponding coating was prepared. Firstly, the correlation between the composition and typical spectral detected characteristics of the desert soil was systematically analyzed. It was found that the color and the spectrum of the desert soil in the range of 400–1000 nm were influenced by different types of iron oxides. The main spectral characteristic and reflection intensity at 1000–2500 nm were impacted by quartz and montmorillonite. Subsequently, the design method for hyperspectral stealth coatings was developed by analyzing the differences in spectral and structural characteristics between the coatings and the soil. The prepared coating exhibited similar color and spectral shape to the soil in the range of 400–1000 nm, with comparable spectral features around 1414 nm, 1915 nm, 2212 nm, 2250 nm, and 2346 nm. The correlation coefficient and the spectral cosine angle between the reflectance spectra of the coating and the soil within the 400–2500 nm wavelength were calculated to be 0.989 and only 0.05 radians, respectively. The effectiveness of the coating in achieving excellent camouflage against the desert soil background was confirmed through the analysis of multispectral images and thermal infrared temperature. This study holds significant importance for the application of hyperspectral stealth techniques in desert soil scenarios.

Conger myriaster has a high price on the international market and occupies an important position in aquatic product export in China, and it is widely distributed in the Yellow Sea, the Bohai Sea, the East China Sea, the coastal waters of Japan from southern Hokkaido to northern Okinawa, and the sea near the Korean Peninsula. The experimental aquaculture techniques of C. myriaster include pond culture, industrialized open-flowing water culture, and industrialized recirculating aquaculture. No report has been published on the morphological characteristics or the effects of various morphological traits on the body weight and net body weight of C. myriaster in an industrialized open-flowing water culture. In this study, C. myriaster was collected under this industrialized culture mode and assessed using traditional measurement methods, statistical analysis, and other means to systematically measure and analyze morphological traits. A total of 90 C. myriaster were collected equally from three aquaculture companies along the coast of the Yellow Sea. The body weight (BW), net body weight (NW), total length (TL), body length (BL), body height (BH), soma width (SW), head length (HL), head height (HH), head width (HW), proboscis length (PL), proboscis width (PW), eye diameter (ED), vertical eye diameter (VED), and distance between eyes (DE) were measured individually using an electronic balance, a ruler, and a Vernier caliper. We analyzed the relationships between morphological traits and constructed a truss network diagram of morphological traits. The effects of the morphological traits on BW and NW were studied by correlation analysis, path analysis, multiple regression analysis, and curve fitting. The correlation analysis showed that the correlations of BW with TL, BL, BH, SW, HH, and HW were extremely significant (P < 0.01), with correlation coefficient values of 0.818, 0.829, 0.611, 0.697, 0.667, and 0.642, respectively. The correlations of NW with TL, BL, BH, SW, HH, HW, and VED were extremely significant (P < 0.01), with correlation coefficients of 0.848, 0.857, 0.574, 0.591, 0.617, 0.564, and 0.519, respectively. Path analysis revealed that the path coefficients between BW and three morphological traits (namely BL, BH, and SW) were larger than those for other morphological traits, at 0.631, 0.204, and 0.374, respectively. The path coefficients between NW and these three morphological traits (BL, BH, and SW) were larger than those for other morphological traits, at 0.703, 0.213, and 0.239, respectively. Through determination coefficient analysis, it was observed that the determination coefficient for BL to BW was the largest, with a value of 0.398. The combination of SW and BL had the largest determination coefficient for BW, with a value of 0.162. This indicated that BL was a core morphological trait to determine the BW, and the SW was an important morphological trait to determine the BW. The determination coefficient of BL to NW was the largest at 0.494. The combination of SW and TL had the largest coefficient of determination for NW, with a value of 0.116. This showed that the BL was the core morphological trait to determine the NW, and SW was an important morphological trait to determine the NW. A stepwise regression method was used to establish a regression equation in which the three morphological traits were independent variables and the BW or NW was the dependent variable. The multiple regression equation of the important morphological traits for BW was BW = –642.699 + 1.086 × BL + 3.874 × BH + 7.917 × SW (P < 0.01). The multiple regression equation of the important morphological traits for NW was NW = -526.995 + 1.033 × BL + 3.438 × BH + 4.317 × SW (P < 0.01). Further curve fitting was performed for each morphological trait with BW and NW in the equation. The best fitting models of BL, BH, and SW for BW were the logarithmic function, logarithmic function, and power function, respectively, and the model equations were BW = -3, 542.357 + 608.061lnBL (R2 = 0.929), BW = 14.313BH0.941 (R2 = 0.908), and BW = -1, 028.49 + 416.452lnSW (R2 = 0.920), respectively. The best-fitting models of BL, BH, and SW for NW were the logarithmic, linear, and logarithmic functions, respectively. The model equations were NW = -2, 983.881 + 516.411lnBL (R2 = 0.930), NW = -22.252 + 11.392BH (R2 = 0.914), and NW = -774.583 + 329.017lnSW (R2 = 0.921), respectively. In summary, BL was the core morphological trait affecting the BW and NW of C. myriaster in an industrialized culture model. BH and SW were important morphological traits affecting the BW and NW of C. myriaster in the industrialized culture model. These results provide a theoretical basis for the future identification of germplasm characteristics, genetic breeding, and healthy aquaculture of C. myriaster.

Abstract Nitrogen oxides (NOx) play important roles in the nitrogen cycle system and serve as renewable nitrogen sources for the synthesis of value-added chemicals driven by clean electricity. However, it is challenging to achieve selective conversion of NOx to multi-nitrogen products (e.g., N2H4) via precise construction of a single N-N bond. Herein, we propose a strategy for NOx-to-N2H4 under ambient conditions, involving electrochemical NOx upgrading to NH3, followed by ketone-mediated NH3 to N2H4. It can achieve an impressive overall NOx-to-N2H4 selectivity of 88.7%. We elucidate mechanistic insights into the ketone-mediated N-N coupling process. Diphenyl ketone (DPK) emerges as an optimal mediator, facilitating controlled N-N coupling, owing to its steric and conjugation effects. The acetonitrile solvent stabilizes and activates key imine intermediates through hydrogen bonding. Experimental results reveal that Ph2CN* intermediates formed on WO3 catalysts acted as pivotal monomers to drive controlled N-N coupling with high selectivity, facilitated by lattice-oxygen-mediated dehydrogenation. Additionally, both WO3 catalysts and DPK mediators exhibit favorable reusability, offering promise for green N2H4 synthesis.

Adopting carbon-efficient building shapes has significant potential to reduce embodied carbon emissions (ECEs). Early-stage design decisions play a crucial role in this process, yet current methods lack predictive models for ECEs based on building shape parameters. This study addresses this gap by utilizing the Dom-ino system, which includes concrete and steel framing, to develop a method for estimating ECEs. The study analyzes the influence of building shape parameters, such as plan aspect ratio and number of floors, on ECEs and fits equations to the results to establish predictive models. Our findings indicate that these parameters significantly impact ECEs, and the study delves into the mechanisms by which they affect structural components and material usage. The developed method provides architects with a tool to evaluate and optimize building designs for lower carbon impact during the early stages of design. This approach supports a swift and environmentally conscious design process, enhancing the ability to predict and reduce ECEs in architectural projects.

Mesoscale eddies exert a profound influence on oceanic temperature and salinity structures, thereby altering the ecological environment and acoustic propagation characteristics. Prior research on acoustic propagation beneath mesoscale eddy effects has predominantly concentrated on fragmented, snapshot-style analyses. In contrast, this study employs a holistic approach by integrating multi-source data to elucidate oceanic temperature and salinity structures, ultimately impacting their ecological environment and acoustic propagation. While the existing paper, this study adopts a more comprehensive and successional methodology. Through the amalgamation of multi-source data, this research introduces an innovative mesoscale eddy tracking algorithm and an enhanced Gaussian eddy model. Utilizing the BELLHOP ray theory model, this investigation scrutinizes the acoustic field characteristics of a cyclonic eddy and a typical anticyclonic eddy (CE-AE) pair exhibiting complete life cycles in the Northwest Pacific. The results reveal that the complete life cycles of mesoscale eddies substantially impact the acoustic field environment. As a CE intensifies, the convergence zone (CZ) distance diminishes, the CZ width expands, and the direct wave (DW) distance shortens. Conversely, an intensifying AE increases the CZ distance, contracts the CZ width, and prolongs the DW distance. This paper presents a quantitative analysis to delineate the critical factors influencing eddy life cycles, indicating that both eddy intensity and deformation parameters significantly affect acoustic propagation characteristics, with eddy intensity exerting a more substantial influence. This research substantially contributes to the application of sea surface altimetry data for underwater acoustic studies and provides preliminary insights into the impacts of eddy parameters on underwater acoustic propagation within typical mesoscale eddy environments. Moreover, this research offers a foundation for future investigations into the intricate relationships between eddy dynamics and acoustic propagation in oceanic systems.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease that primarily affects the elderly worldwide. It is characterized by local inflammation, which can be targeted therapeutically using natural anti-inflammatory compounds such as curcumin. This scoping review explores the therapeutic effects and mechanisms of curcumin in OA management. A total of 50 relevant original studies published in English were selected from PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus using specific search strings, regardless of study type. These studies demonstrated curcumin’s anti-inflammatory, protective, and anti-apoptotic effects on chondrocytes. Curcumin has been shown to stimulate chondrocyte proliferation and collagen production while inhibiting matrix metalloproteinase activity. These mechanisms contribute to curcumin's ability to alleviate pain and improve joint function in OA patients. While the findings highlight curcumin’s potential in OA management, further research is needed to enhance its bioavailability and determine optimal formulations, dosages, and administration routes.

Mesoscale eddies are the most important mesoscale phenomena in the oceans, and determining how to predict their spatial and temporal characteristics is a very challenging task. Most previous studies focused on the accuracy of full-domain prediction and ignored the accuracy of single-eddy prediction. To solve this problem, in this paper, we first apply multi-year sea surface height data to produce a spatiotemporal sequence sample dataset with a bidirectional prediction mechanism. Then, we introduce an adversarial generative mechanism through stacked spatiotemporal prediction blocks and rely on the strong generative ability of the generative adversarial network models to construct an adversarial bidirectional long- and short-term memory model (AB-LSTM). Next, the mesoscale eddy mixing algorithm is used to extract the matching eddy pair features from the real and predicted data, and several evaluation metrics are used to conduct error analysis. The experiments yield the following results. Prediction sequence days 1–7: the root mean square error (RMSE) values are 1.97–7.70 cm, the structural similarity index (SSIM) values are >0.61, the accuracy is >54.6%, and the eddy centre distance error is 6.34 km. The result is 11.61 km, which is consistent with many spatiotemporal prediction models and passes the generalisation test in many different sea areas. Finally, we carry out single eddy prediction on the basis of the evaluation of the entire prediction of the sea surface height and also obtain a more satisfactory experimental effect. This method has a better prediction ability than the original spatiotemporal method and has a certain reference significance for mesoscale eddy spatiotemporal feature prediction technology and subsequent underwater reconstruction.

Objectives: To develop an intelligent human-machine collaborative control robot-assisted craniotomy system, and test its efficacy by experiments. Methods: The system integrated a UR5 robotic arm (Universal Robots, Denmark), a host computer, a double six-degree-of-freedom force sensor(Nanjing Yuli Instrument Co., Ltd.), a medical drill(AESCULAP®, Germany), a Polaris Optical navigation system(NDI,Canada), with a self-designed navigation procedure and a visual graphical user interface(GUI). According to a preoperative CT and resection plan, the motion of robotic arm can be restricted in a precise and safe area. Through experiments of the 3D-printed skull models and animals (Bama mini pig), we tested the accuracy, efficiency and safety of the robot system. Results: After successfully developed the robot-assisted craniotomy system, we tested the collaborative controlling fluency of robotic arm with the average response time less than 1 s, as well as feedback sensitivity of force sensor with an average result of 60 N and 50 N when drilling on skull models and mini pigs respectively. Background: Since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, the potential roles of thyroid-inflammatory derangements in driving or being associated with the prognosis of COVID-19 remain controversial. We aimed to clarify the association between COVID-19 infection and thyroid dysfunction, and highlight the impacts of subsequent autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) on the prognosis of COVID-19. Methods: The retrospective, multicenter, cohort study enrolled 2,339 participants with COVID-19 from three hospitals located in the north, middle, and south regions of Shaan Xi Province, China, between December 2022 and July 2023. 464 non-COVID-19 patients within the same period were supplemented, divided into groups with and without AITD. At hospital admission (baseline), 3- and 6-month follow-ups, we presented a dynamic description and correlation analysis of thyroid-inflammatory-autoimmune derangements in patients with AITD. Results: A total of 2,082 COVID-19 patients diagnosed with AITD and 257 cases without AITD were included in the study, and 464 non-COVID-19 patients were supplemented, dividing into 14 AITD and 450 non-AITD cases. We found that COVID-19 infection was closely associated with thyroid dysfunction (χ2 = 1518.129, p = 0.000). AITD patients with COVID-19 showed a higher prevalence of symptoms and comorbidities and longer hospital stays at baseline than non-AITD patients with COVID-19 (p = 0.000, p = 0.000, and p = 0.000). The baseline free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine, and radioactive iodine uptake at 24 h in AITD cases significantly decreased (p = 0.000, p = 0.000, and p = 0.000), while thyroid stimulating hormone, thyroglobulin, reverse triiodothyronine (rT3), and thyroid antibodies varying elevated from the baseline to the follow-up (baseline: p = 0.000, p = 0.000, p = 0.000, p = 0.000, p = 0.000, and p = 0.000; 3-month follow-up: p = 0.000, p = 0.000, p = 0.000, p = 0.000, p = 0.030, and p = 0.000). C-reactive protein, calcitonin, interleukin-6, -8, -10, and tumor necrosis factor-α rose significantly at baseline (p = 0.000, p = 0.000, p = 0.000, p = 0.000, p = 0.000, and p = 0.000) in AITD. Interferon-α and interferon-γ at baseline showed a significant decrease (p = 0.000 and p = 0.000), and remained at low levels after 6 months (p = 0.000 and p = 0.000). FT3 and rT3 were positively and negatively correlated with hospitalization, respectively (r = -0.208 and 0.231; p = 0.000 and p = 0.000). ROC curves showed that FT3 and rT3 had better robustness in predicting severe COVID-19 prognosis (AUC = 0.801 and 0.705). Ordered logistic regression revealed that ORs were 0.370, 0.048, and 0.021 for AITD [(subacute thyroiditis, Grave's disease, and Hashimoto's thyroiditis compared to non-thyroidal illness syndrome (NTIS)] with COVID-19 risk, indicating that NTIS was the predominant risk factor for the severity of COVID-19. Conclusions: A robust association has been identified, wherein COVID-19 infection is closely associated with thyroid dysfunction, and the subsequent AITD may aggravate the poor prognosis of COVID-19.

Background: Non-small cell lung cancer-not otherwise specified (NSCLC-NOS) is a rare subtype of NSCLC that cannot be classified specifically based on morphology and/or special staining. This study aimed to explore the clinical features, biological and pathological characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of NSCLC-NOS. Methods: This retrospective study included NSCLC-NOS patients diagnosed and treated between 2010 and 2022. Clinical features, gene expression, first-line treatment, and prognosis were analyzed. Kaplan-Meier methods were calculated and log-rank tests and univariable and multivariable Cox regression analyses were performed to determine the relationship between prognostic factors and survival. Results: Of 105 NSCLC-NOS patients, most were male (92.4 %), smokers (78.1 %), with a median age of 64 years, and advanced stage (IIIc-IV, 72.4 %). Immunohistochemical analysis showed minimal expression of p40, NapsinA, and TTF-1, whereas cytokeratin (CK) was expressed in 100 % of cases. 20.5 % of 39 patients who underwent genetic testing had driver gene mutations, including EGFR, KRAS, and ROS1. Among 69 patients with complete treatment information, 58 received platinum-based chemotherapy, with paclitaxel being the most commonly used combination chemotherapy drug (n = 25), followed by pemetrexed (n = 21). The objective response rate (ORR) of paclitaxel was found to be higher compared to pemetrexed (83.3 % vs. 54.5 %, P = 0.296). Furthermore, the combination of paclitaxel with immunotherapy demonstrated superior benefits in comparison to pemetrexed (76.9 % vs. 50.0 %, P = 0.367). The median progression-free survival (PFS) for patients treated with monotherapy paclitaxel, the paclitaxel-immunotherapy combination, and the pemetrexed-immunotherapy combination were 6.6 months (95 % CI: 1.508–11.692; P = 0.017), 15.7 months (95 % CI: 14.071–17.329; P = 0.017), and 11.8 months (95 % CI: 10.279–13.321; P = 0.324), respectively. The median overall survival (OS) was 13.6 months. Anatomic location (P = 0.026) and immunotherapy use (P = 0.003) were associated with OS. Multivariate analysis confirmed that anatomical location and immunotherapy use were factors influencing the prognosis. Conclusion: NSCLC-NOS is common in male smokers and often diagnosed at an advanced stage with low mutation rate. Paclitaxel with immunotherapy may have better benefits as a first-line treatment. Anatomic location and immunotherapy use are prognostic factors.

Abstract Achieving satisfactory multi-carbon (C2+) products selectivity and current density under acidic condition is a key issue for practical application of electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR), but is challenging. Herein, we demonstrate that combining microenvironment modulation by porous channel structure and intrinsic catalytic activity enhancement via doping effect could promote efficient CO2RR toward C2+ products in acidic electrolyte (pH ≤ 1). The La-doped Cu hollow sphere with channels exhibits a C2+ products Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 86.2% with a partial current density of −775.8 mA cm−2. CO2 single-pass conversion efficiency for C2+ products can reach 52.8% at −900 mA cm−2. Moreover, the catalyst still maintains a high C2+ FE of 81.3% at −1 A cm−2. The channel structure plays a crucial role in accumulating K+ and OH- species near the catalyst surface and within the channels, which effectively suppresses the undesired hydrogen evolution and promotes C–C coupling. Additionally, the La doping enhances the generation of *CO intermediate, and also facilitates C2+ products formation.

Clock genes play a pivotal role in the rhythm maturation of bony fish ovaries. To explore the role of clock genes in the rhythmic ovarian development and maturation of tongue sole (Cynoglossus semilaevis), we used real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR technique to analyze the expression profiles of circadian locomotor output cycles Kaput 1a (Clock1a), brain and muscle Arntlike 1a (Bmal1a), Cryptochrome 1a (Cry1a), Cryptochrome 2 (Cry2), and Period 2 (Per2) at the ovarian stages Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ, Ⅴ, and Ⅵ.The coding DNA sequence (CDS) of five clock genes were cloned and phylogenetically analyzed. We found that the CDS sequence length of Clock1a was 1 620 bp and encoded 539 amino acids, with the encoded amino acid sequence of Clock1a having a predicted molecular weight of 81.9 kDa. Clock1a has the functional domain PASD1 (consisting of 64 amino acids) and PAS11 (consisting of 103 amino acids). The CDS sequence length of Bmal1a was 1 881 bp and encoded 626 amino acids, with the encoded amino acid sequence of Bmal1a having a predicted molecular weight of 68.9 kDa. In the Bmal1a sequence, the functional domain PASD3 is composed of 63 amino acids, and the functional domain PAS11 is composed of 103 amino acids. The CDS sequence length of Cry1a was 1 896 bp and encoded 631 amino acids, with the encoded amino acid sequence of Cry1a having a predicted molecular weight of 71.4 kDa. Its functional domain FAD7 was composed of 199 amino acids. The CDS sequence length of Cry2 was 2 007 bp and encoded 669 amino acids, with the encoded amino acid sequence of Cry2 having a predicted molecular weight of 76.0 kDa. The Cry2 sequence contains a functional domain FAD7 consisting of 199 amino acids. The CDS sequence length of Per2 was 4 248 bp, encoding 1 415 amino acids, and the encoded amino acid sequence of Per2 has a predicted molecular weight of 154.0 kDa. In the Per2 sequence, the functional domain PeriodC consists of 295 amino acids and a functional domain PAS11 consists of 102 amino acids.The neighbor-joining method was used to analyze the Clock1a, Bmal1a, Cry1a, Cry2, and Per2 phylogenetic relationships between C. semilaevis and other bony fish, amphibians, birds, and mammals. The homology of Clock1a, Bmal1a, Cry1a, Cry2, and Per2 with other bony fish was 60%–79%, 94%–100%, 85%–91%, 84%–94%, and 70%–84%, respectively. Therefore, we believe that these five amino acid sequences show strong conserved property. In addition, the homology of Cry1a and Cry2 was 62%, indicating that Cry1a and Cry2 evolved differently during the evolution of C. semilaevis. In the constructed phylogenetic tree, Clock1a, Bmal1a, Cry1a, Cry2, and Per2 of C. semilaevis were clustered together with other bony fishes, indicating a close relationship between C. semilaevis and other bony fish in the evolutionary process. Moreover, the homology of Clock1a between C. semilaevis and mammals, birds, and amphibians is low, indicating that there are evolutionary differences in the evolutionary process of Clock1a. The high homology of Bmal1a, Cry1a, Cry2, and Per2 with mammals, birds, and amphibians suggests that these four clock genes were strongly conserved during the evolution of C. semilaevis.In the present study, we found that the expression levels of five clock genes were high in stagesⅡ and Ⅲ, which were equivalent to the non-reproductive season (P < 0.05). However, the expression levels of five clock genes were low in stages Ⅳ and Ⅴ, which were equivalent to the reproductive season (P < 0.05). Therefore, the expression profiles of Clock1a, Bmal1a, Cry1a, Cry2, and Per2 in the ovaries of C. semilaevis also have seasonal characteristics. The ovarian development and maturation of C. semilaevis goes through stages Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ, Ⅴ, and Ⅵ, and then reaches stage Ⅱ again and starts a new reproductive cycle. The variation patterns of seasonal factors, such as light and temperature, in fish ovaries were consistent with the annual expression patterns of the five clock genes in this study. Therefore, it can be considered that the expression of clock genes in C. semilaevis has an annual cycle. The findings presented in this study can enrich the theory of ovarian development and maturation of C. semilaevis and provide a theoretical basis for improving breeding technology and seedling efficiency.

Abstract The metal-nucleic acid nanocomposites, first termed metal-nucleic acid frameworks (MNFs) in this work, show extraordinary potential as functional nanomaterials. However, thus far, realized MNFs face limitations including harsh synthesis conditions, instability, and non-targeting. Herein, we discover that longer oligonucleotides can enhance the synthesis efficiency and stability of MNFs by increasing oligonucleotide folding and entanglement probabilities during the reaction. Besides, longer oligonucleotides provide upgraded metal ions binding conditions, facilitating MNFs to load macromolecular protein drugs at room temperature. Furthermore, longer oligonucleotides facilitate functional expansion of nucleotide sequences, enabling disease-targeted MNFs. As a proof-of-concept, we build an interferon regulatory factor-1(IRF-1) loaded Ca2+/(aptamer-deoxyribozyme) MNF to target regulate glucose transporter (GLUT-1) expression in human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER-2) positive gastric cancer cells. This MNF nanodevice disrupts GSH/ROS homeostasis, suppresses DNA repair, and augments ROS-mediated DNA damage therapy, with tumor inhibition rate up to 90%. Our work signifies a significant advancement towards an era of universal MNF application.

BackgroundPrevious studies have suggested that gut microbiota (GM) may be involved in the pathogenesis of epilepsy through the microbiota-gut-brain axis (MGBA). However, the causal relationship between GM and different epilepsy subtypes and whether circulating inflammatory proteins act as mediators to participate in epileptogenesis through the MGBA remain unclear. Therefore, it is necessary to identify specific GM associated with epilepsy and its subtypes and explore their underlying inflammatory mechanisms for risk prediction, personalized treatment, and prognostic monitoring of epilepsy.MethodsWe hypothesized the existence of a pathway GM-inflammatory proteins-epilepsy. We found genetic variants strongly associated with GM, circulating inflammatory proteins, epilepsy and its subtypes, including generalized and partial seizures, from large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS) summary data and used Multivariate Mendelian Randomization to explore the causal relationship between the three and whether circulating inflammatory proteins play a mediating role in the pathway from GM to epilepsy, with inverse variance weighted (IVW) method as the primary statistical method, supplemented by four methods: MR-Egger, weighted median estimator (WME), Weighted mode and Simple mode.Results16 positive and three negative causal associations were found between the genetic liability of GM and epilepsy and its subtypes. There were nine positive and nine negative causal associations between inflammatory proteins and epilepsy and its subtypes. Furthermore, we found that C-X-C motif chemokine 11 (CXCL11) levels mediated the causal association between Genus Family XIII AD3011 group and epilepsy.ConclusionOur study highlights the possible causal role of specific GM and specific inflammatory proteins in the development of epilepsy and suggests that circulating inflammatory proteins may mediate epileptogenesis through the MGBA.

BackgroundWith the exacerbation of population aging, the health issues of middle-aged and older adults have increasingly become a focus of attention. The widespread use of the internet has created conditions for promoting the health of this demographic. However, little is known about the effects of information access in promoting the relationship between internet use and the health of middle-aged and older adults. ObjectiveThis study aims to examine the relationship between internet use and multidimensional health in middle-aged and older adults, as well as the mediating effect of information access. Moreover, this study will explore the relationship between other dimensions of internet use (purposes and frequency) and health. MethodsData were sourced from the China General Social Survey conducted in 2018. Health outcomes, including self-rated, physical, and mental health, were assessed using the 5-level self-rated health scale, the 5-level basic activities of daily living scale, and the 5-level depression scale, respectively. The ordinal logistic regression model was used to examine the relationship between internet use and health among middle-aged and older adults. Additionally, the Karlson-Holm-Breen decomposition method was used to examine the mediation effect of information access. To address endogeneity issues, the two-stage least squares approach was applied. ResultsIn our sample, nearly half (n=3036, 46.3%) of the respondents use the internet. Specific leaf area (SLA) and leaf dry matter content (LDMC) are key leaf functional traits often used to reflect plant resource utilization strategies and predict plant responses to environmental changes. In general, grassland plants at different elevations exhibit varying survival strategies. However, it remains unclear how grassland plants adapt to changes in elevation and their driving factors. To address this issue, we utilized SLA and LDMC data of grassland plants from 223 study sites at different elevations in China, along with climate and soil data, to investigate variations in resource utilization strategies of grassland plants along different elevational gradients and their dominant influencing factors employing linear mixed-effects models, variance partitioning method, piecewise Structural Equation Modeling, etc. The results show that with increasing elevation, SLA significantly decreases, and LDMC significantly increases (P < 0.001). This indicates different resource utilization strategies of grassland plants across elevation gradients, transitioning from a “faster investment-return” at lower elevations to a “slower investment-return” at higher elevations. Across different elevation gradients, climatic factors are the main factors affecting grassland plant resource utilization strategies, with soil nutrient factors also playing a non-negligible coordinating role. Among these, mean annual precipitation and hottest month mean temperature are key climatic factors influencing SLA of grassland plants, explaining 28.94% and 23.88% of SLA variation, respectively. The key factors affecting LDMC of grassland plants are mainly hottest month mean temperature and soil phosphorus content, with relative importance of 24.24% and 20.27%, respectively. Additionally, the direct effect of elevation on grassland plant resource utilization strategies is greater than its indirect effect (through influencing climatic and soil nutrient factors). These findings emphasize the substantive impact of elevation on grassland plant resource utilization strategies and have important ecological value for grassland management and protection under global change.

AimThis study aims to explore the effectiveness and safety of Ginkgolide® in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO) and moderate-to-severe stroke receiving intravenous alteplase thrombolysis (IVT).MethodsGinkgolide with Intravenous Alteplase Thrombolysis in Acute Ischemic Stroke Improving Neurological Function (GIANT) was an open-label, prospective, multicenter, cluster-randomized clinical trial and included AIS patients in 24 centers randomized to the intervention of intravenous Ginkgolide® or control group within the first 24 h after IVT. LVO was defined as any occlusion of the internal carotid artery, M1 or M2 of the middle cerebral artery, A1 or A2 of the anterior cerebral artery, P1 of the posterior cerebral artery, and V4 of the vertebral artery or the basilar artery. Stroke severity was assessed with the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (minor ≤5; moderate-to-severe >5). The primary outcome was a good outcome, defined as a modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score of 0–2 at 90 days. Secondary outcomes were early neurological improvement (ENI), defined as ≥18% increase in the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score at 7 days compared to baseline and distribution of mRS at 3 months.ResultsA total of 1,113 patients were included, with 268/913 (29.4%) presenting LVO and 508 (45.6%) presenting moderate-to-severe stroke. In patients with LVO, Ginkgolide® usage was independently associated with ENI (P = 0.001) but not with a good outcome (P = 0.154). In the moderate-to-severe stroke subgroup, Ginkgolide® was independently associated with both a good outcome (P = 0.009) and ENI (P = 0.028). Ginkgolide® did not increase the risk of hemorrhagic transformation (all P > 0.05).ConclusionUsing Ginkgolide® within 24-h after intravenous rt-PA is effective and safe in LVO and moderate-to-severe stroke patients.

The whitespotted conger (Conger myriaster) is an important fish species with high economic value in China and Japan owing to its high nutritional content. It occupies an important position in marine-eel export in China. C. myriaster has the potential to be artificially cultured and has promising economic prospects. Thus, there is growing international interest in C. myriaster research. Indeed, to meet the demands of domestic and foreign markets, artificial culturing of C. myriaster is urgently required. However, at present, there is no report on the research of C. myriaster reared in industrial recirculating aquaculture systems. Feeding frequency has been reported to affect feed intake and growth performance in a number of fish species. Feed management in terms of optimization of feeding frequency has emerged as one of the crucial areas of research in the field of aquaculture. Overfeeding and leftover food disrupts the water quality, while inadequate food supply has direct impact on production cost. Traditional flow through systems uses large volumes of water, and intensified aquaculture has drawbacks, such as large amount of discharged waste from effluent water. Among the excreted nutrients, nitrogen and phosphorus constitute the largest proportion. Sustainability with low environmental impacts is one of the concerns when developing aquaculture systems. Based on the concepts of reduced water consumption and efficient water management, recirculating aquaculture systems offer the possibility of creating a sustainable future for fish production. Thus, a 70-day experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of different feeding frequencies and water quality on the growth performance and physiological and biochemical indices of C. myriaster [body weight: (150.64±5.43) g] reared in industrial recirculating aquaculture systems; physiological and ecological methods were used in this study. The experiment comprised two feeding frequency groups, feeding once (group T1) and twice (group T2) per day, and each treatment group had three replicates. The average body weight of the fish in each culture pond and the water quality indices of the culture system were measured and analyzed every 14 d. At the end of the experiment, the blood, liver, and intestine samples of C. myriaster were collected to determine and analyze growth and physiological indices. The results indicated that (1) the growth performance of group T2 was better than that of group T1. The final body weight, final body length, weight gain, and specific growth rate of group T2 was significantly higher than those of group T1 (P < 0.05). The feed coefficient of group T1 was significantly higher than that of group T2 (P < 0.05). However, no significant differences were found in the final body height, liver body ratio, visceral body ratio, condition factor, or survival rate at different feeding frequencies (P > 0.05). (2) The serum malondialdehyde of group T1 was significantly higher than that of group T2 (P < 0.05). The hepatic alanine aminotransferase and hepatic aspartate transaminase of group T1 was significantly higher than those of group T2 (P < 0.05). The intestinal trypsin of group T2 was significantly higher than that of group T1 (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in the levels of serum superoxide dismutase, serum catalase, intestinal amylase, or intestinal lipase between groups T1 and T2 (P > 0.05). (3) In the 24 h changes of ammonia nitrogen (NH4+-N) and nitrite nitrogen (NO2–-N), the change patterns of the two indices in outlet of the T1 group were similar to those of the outlet of the bio-filter; the two indices of the outlet water in T1 and T2 groups were one (24:00) and two peaks (20:00 and 08:00) respectively; the difference in NH4+-N in the outlet water of the two test groups within 24 h was significant (P < 0.05); at 04:00 and 08:00, the NO2–-N content of the outlet water of the biofilter was significantly lower than that of the other two test groups (P < 0.05); the 24 h changes range of NH4+-N and NO2–-N in T2 group were smaller than those in T1 group. (4) During the whole test period, each water quality index was maintained within the safe breeding range, and no significant differences were found in NH4+-N, NO2–-N, chemical oxygen demand, and active phosphate concentration between T1 and T2 groups (P > 0.05); at the end of the test, the total nitrogen and total phosphorus of T2 group were significantly higher than those of T1 group (P < 0.05); the biofilter has different treatment effects on various water quality indices, among which the treatment effect on NH4+-N is the most efficient, up to 54.23%. Based on the above results, the feeding frequency of twice per day was better than that of once per day in the industrial recirculating aquaculture mode for C. myriaster (body weight: 150~250 g). Without affecting the survival rate and condition factor, the twice per day group can save costs and improve economic benefits. However, due to the limitations of the test conditions, we did not explore more times of feeding, and further tests are needed in the future. The predominance, which was the high efficiency of water qualities treatment and optimal effect of culture, was demonstrated obviously in closed recirculating aquaculture systems. This study aims to provide a theoretical reference for the appropriate feeding strategy in the industrial recirculating aquaculture model of C. myriaster.

The Psychological Strain Scale (PSS) has been widely used in various populations to assess the risks of suicidality and mental disorders. The current study aims to shorten the original 40-item scale and test its psychometric properties. Data were derived from three samples in China: (1) undergraduate students (n = 10,742), (2) non-medical office employees (n = 1044), and (3) hospital workers (n = 949). A questionnaire was administered to the samples at about the same time of the year 2017. Data were randomly divided into Sub-study 1 (70% of the sample) and Sub-study 2 (30% of the sample). In Sub-study 1, principal component analyses were run and five items with the highest factor loadings within each subscale were retained, resulting in a 20-item PSS scale. Cronbach’s α estimates were above 0.70. In Sub-study 2, confirmatory factor analyses for the three samples revealed RMSEA values below 0.10, PNFI values below 0.50 for all samples, and CFI, TLI and NFI values above 0.90 for the student and non-medical office employee samples, but the hospital worker sample had a TLI of 0.88. The PSS-20 and its subscales were significantly associated with past-year suicidal ideation. The PSS-20 has acceptable psychometric properties but requires further testing in university students and hospital workers.

Ocean fronts, widespread across the global ocean, cause abrupt shifts in physical properties such as temperature, salinity, and sound speed, significantly affecting underwater acoustic communication and detection. While past research has concentrated on qualitative analysis and small-scale research on ocean front sections, a comprehensive analysis of ocean fronts’ characteristics and their impact on underwater acoustics is lacking. This study employs high-resolution reanalysis data and in situ observations to accurately identify ocean fronts, sound speed structures, and acoustic propagation features from over six hundred thousand Kuroshio Extension Front (KEF) sections. Utilizing marine big data statistics and machine learning evaluation metrics such as out-of-bag (OOB) error and Shapley values, this study quantitatively assesses the variations in sound speed structures across the KEF and their effects on acoustic propagation shifts. This study’s key findings reveal that differences in sound speed structure are significantly correlated with KEF strength, with the channel axis depth and conjugate depth increasing with front strength, while the thermocline intensity and depth excess decrease. Acoustic propagation features in the KEF environment exhibit notable seasonal variations.

Hydraulic structures may be subjected to erosion and damage by high-speed sand carrying water flow in the overflow area, seriously weakening the normal operation of the building. Due to the limited research on the wear resistance of ordinary concrete as a drainage structure, this paper took concrete in actual engineering as examples to study the effects of compressive strength, aggregate ppaper size, sand volume fraction, pore size parameters, water flow velocity, bed load and suspended load content. The results showed that when using the underwater steel ball method for testing, no strong correspondence between concrete abrasion resistance and a compressive strength. The strength grade of concrete was C40 - C55, with similar abrasion resistance. When the compressive strength was close, the abrasion resistance of concrete was 1.42–1.68 times that of mortar. The smaller the difference between the volume fraction of sand and the compact porosity of coarse aggregate, the higher the abrasion resistance. The proportion of 50–100 nm pore size in the pore structure was negatively correlated with the abrasion resistance of concrete, while the fractal dimension of pore volume was positively correlated with the abrasion resistance. When the water flow speed decreased from 1.5 m/s to 1.25 m/s, the abrasion resistance has increased by 97%. The influence of suspended load on concrete abrasion damage was minimal compared to bed load. Comprehensively studies the influence of different factors on the abrasion resistance of concrete, providing theoretical guidance and practical experience for improving the abrasion resistance of concrete.

Mesoscale eddies are phenomena that widely exist in the ocean and have a significant impact on the ocean’s temperature and salt structure, as well as on acoustic propagation effects. Currently, utilizing the limited data on mesoscale eddy environments for refined acoustic field reconstruction in offshore conditions at mid-to-far-ocean distances is an urgent problem that needs to be addressed. In this paper, we propose a mesoscale eddy reconstruction method (EddyGAN) based on the generative adversarial network (GAN) model which is inspired by the concept of global localization. We adopt a hybrid algorithm for eddy identification using JCOPE2M high-resolution reanalysis data and Archiving, Validation, and Interpretation of Satellite Oceanographic (AVISO) satellite altimeter data to extract mesoscale eddy sound speed profile (SSP) sample data, and then apply the EddyGAN model to train this dataset and perform mesoscale eddy acoustic field reconstruction. We also propose an evaluation method for mesoscale eddy acoustic field reconstruction that uses RMSE, SSIM, and convergence zone (CZ) accuracy based on World Ocean Atlas (WOA) climate state data completion as indicators. The reconstruction result of this model achieves an RMSE of 1.7 m/s, an SSIM of 0.77, and an average CZ accuracy of over 70%. This method better characterizes the mesoscale eddy sound field than the native GAN and other reconstruction methods, improves the accuracy of mesoscale eddy acoustic field reconstruction, and provides superior performance, offering significant reference value for mesoscale eddy reconstruction technology and subsequent ocean acoustic research.

Background: With the growing use of nitrogen-containing pesticides in agriculture, their residues in the environment have raised significant public health concerns.Objective: This study aimed to develop a novel PPy-DBSA/IT-SPME coating to enhance the detection efficiency of polar nitrogen-containing pesticides in water matrices.Methods: The preparation conditions were optimized, including pyrrole concentration at 7.0 mol/L, DBSA concentration at 0.014 mol/L, oxidant concentration at 0.35 mol/L, and a coating cycle repeated 10 times. High-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) was employed for detection.Results: The novel coating effectively adsorbed 19 different categories of polar nitrogen-containing pesticides, including sulfonylureas, triazolopyrimidines, diphenyl ether herbicides, benzoylurea insecticides, and phenylurea herbicides, with unadsorbed rates below 10%. The analytical method achieved an average recovery rate of 61.92% to 115.21%, with an RSD below 5.0%. Detection and quantification limits ranged from 0.012 to 0.524 μg/L and 0.127 to 5.243 μg/L, respectively.Conclusion: The developed method is green, efficient, simple, and cost-effective. It offers an environmentally friendly and user-friendly approach for the detection of polar nitrogen-containing pesticide residues, demonstrating good recovery and precision. This method holds potential for wide application in environmental monitoring and food safety.

Mesoscale eddies are prevalent mesoscale phenomena in the oceans that alter the thermohaline structure of the ocean, significantly impacting acoustic propagation patterns. Accurately predicting acoustic convergence zone features has become an urgent task, especially when data are limited in deep-sea mesoscale eddy environments. This study utilizes physics-informed machine learning to identify and predict the acoustic convergence zone features of mesoscale eddies under limited data conditions. Initially, a method based on convex hull ratio was utilized to identify mesoscale eddies from the JCOPE2M reanalysis dataset and AVISO data in the Kuroshio‐Oyashio Extension. Subsequently, by integrating physical models and ray acoustics, relevant features of mesoscale eddies and convergence zones are extracted. Then, K-fold cross-validation and sparrow search algorithms are employed to select the optimal machine learning algorithm, ensuring high model accuracy. The resulting model requires only a thermohaline profile near the eddy center and sea surface height to predict convergence zone features within the mesoscale eddy environment, achieving a MAE of approximately 1.00 km and an accuracy (within 3 km) exceeding 95%. Additionally, leveraging physics-informed machine learning methods contributes to a maximum reduction of 0.82 km in MAE and an improvement in accuracy by 2.80% to 11.92% compared to models without physical information input. Finally, the model’s validity and reliability in the actual ocean environment are verified by cross-validating it with data from various sea regions" in bright yellow and Argo profiling float data. The findings provide novel insights into acoustic propagation in mesoscale eddy environments and subsequent ocean acoustic research.

Abstract Severe tissue injuries pose a significant risk to human health. Conventional wound dressings fall short in achieving effective tissue regeneration, resulting in suboptimal postoperative healing outcomes. In this study, an asymmetric adhesive wound dressing (marked as SIS/PAA/LAP) was developed, originating from acrylate acid (AA) solution with laponite (LAP) nanoparticles polymerization and photo-crosslinked on the decellularized extracellular matrix small intestinal submucosa (SIS) patch. Extensive studies demonstrated that the SIS/PAA/LAP exhibited higher tissue adhesion strength (~ 33 kPa) and burst strength (~ 22 kPa) compared to conventional wound dressings like Tegaderm and tissue adhesive products. Importantly, it maintained favorable cell viability and demonstrated robust angiogenic capacity. In animal models of full-thickness skin injuries in rats and skin injuries in Bama miniature pigs, the SIS/PAA/LAP could be precisely applied to wound sites. By accelerating the formation of tissue vascularization, it displayed superior tissue repair outcomes. This asymmetrically adhesive SIS-based patch would hold promising applications in the field of wound dressings.

Igneous rock oil and gas reservoir has gradually become an important type of oil and gas reservoir, but the igneous rock reservoir is highly heterogeneous, the reservoir property varies greatly, and the study of reservoir genetic mechanism is unsubstantial, which has become the main bottleneck of igneous rock reservoir evaluation. Taking the intrusive rocks in the second member of Paleogene Funing Formation in the Qintong Sag, Subei Basin as the research object, through systematic core observation, thin section identification, electron probe analysis and testing and logging interpretation, the lithologic and lithofacies characteristics, reservoir characteristics and main controlling factors of reservoir development of the intrusive rocks in the second member of Funing Formation in well Shaduo 1 in the Qintong Sag were analyzed. The results show that the lithology of the intrusive rocks varies remarkably longitudinally, and the intrusive rock body is composed of multiphase intrusive rock, with diabase on the top, pyroxene monzonite in the middle and olivine gabbro at the bottom. The development of porosity varies, with diabase and pyroxene monzonite exhibiting low porosity, while olivine gabbro showing relatively higher porosity. Due to the superimposition of multiple intrusions and hydrothermal alteration, good reservoir spaces are formed, with predominant pore types being dissolution pores and structural fractures, accompanied by the development of shrinkage fractures. The main factors affecting the reservoir physical properties are lithology and hydrothermal fluid activity. Among them, dark minerals such as pyroxene in olivine gabbro are most easily altered, so dissolution pores are highly developed. Additionally, regional fault structures generate numerous structural fractures in many dense igneous rocks, effectively connecting the pore-fracture system of intrusive rock reservoir and providing channels through which magmatic hydrothermal fluids flow in the subsequent dissolution processes. Generally, the overall oil-bearing potential of the intrusive rocks encountered in well Shaduo 1 is poor. Sporadic fluorescence is observed in the lower intrusive rock layers, while the upper intrusive rock layers are essentially devoid of oil.

Abstract The vehicle's power battery is composed of a large number of battery cells series or in parallel. Due to the manufacturing process error and the different use environments, there are differences between the battery cells, and the battery pack will have inconsistency problems, which will increase the safety hazard. Therefore, it is of great practical significance to identify and warn about the inconsistency of power batteries. Based on the data of the internet of vehicles platform, this paper proposes an improved isolated forest power battery abnormal monomer identification and early warning method, which uses the sliding window (SW) to segment the dataset and update the data of the diagnosis model in real‐time. The scores of normal battery cells and abnormal battery cells were analyzed, and then the fault threshold was determined to be 0.75. The results show that the recall ratio and precision ratio of the algorithm are 0.91 and 0.95, respectively, which is more suitable for inconsistent battery cell identification than other methods. If the SW size is 15, the warning effect is the best. Before the vehicle alarm occurs, the algorithm can realize early fault warnings, thus effectively avoiding the safety problems caused by inconsistency faults.

Abstract Recent text generation methods frequently learn node representations from graph‐based data via global or local aggregation, such as knowledge graphs. Since all nodes are connected directly, node global representation encoding enables direct communication between two distant nodes while disregarding graph topology. Node local representation encoding, which captures the graph structure, considers the connections between nearby nodes but misses out onlong‐range relations. A quantum‐like approach to learning better‐contextualised node embeddings is proposed using a fusion model that combines both encoding strategies. Our methods significantly improve on two graph‐to‐text datasets compared to state‐of‐the‐art models in various experiments.

To develop higher strength spring steels with better performance for advanced automotive and transportation industries in line with the trend of lightweight, the strengthening mechanism of two practical 55SiCr and 55SiCrNbV spring steels, which represents plain and micro alloyed spring steels, has been investigated based on the systematic characterization of microstructures, hardness, and tensile test. The tensile strength and hardness were found to be correlated well in a linear relationship. Then the strengthening coefficients of C, Si, Cr and Mn were determined to quantify the solid solution strengthening. The strengthening mechanism of spring steels was found to be the summation of solid solution strengthening, grain refinement, dislocation, and precipitation strengthening, which agree well with the tensile test results. The strengthening mechanism could be used as guidance to develop next generation spring steels, which well explained the ultra-high strength spring steels over 2200 MPa class in the literature.

In response to the demand for high-precision acoustic support under the condition of limited data, this study utilized high-resolution reanalysis data and in situ observation data to extract the Kuroshio Extension Front (KEF) section through front-line identification methods. By combining the parameterized oceanic front model and the statistical features of big data, the parameterized oceanic front was reconstructed. A proxy dataset was generated using the Latin hypercube sampling method, and the sound speed reconstruction model based on the PIX2PIX model was trained and validated using single sound speed profiles at different positions of the oceanic front, combined with the parameterized oceanic front model. The experimental results show that the proposed sound speed reconstruction model can significantly improve the reconstruction accuracy by introducing the parameterized front model as an additional input, especially in the shallow-water area. The mean absolute error (MAE) of the full-depth sound speed reconstruction for this model is 0.63~0.95 m·s−1, and the structural similarity index (SSIM) is 0.76~0.78. The MAE of the sound speed section within a 1000 m depth is reduced by 6.50~37.62%, reaching 1.95~3.31 m·s−1. In addition, the acoustic support capabilities and generalization of the model were verified through ray tracing models and in situ data. This study contributes to advancing high-precision acoustic support in data-limited oceanic environments, laying a solid groundwork for future innovations in marine acoustics.

The clinical significance of measuring vessel wall thickness is widely acknowledged. Recent advancements have enabled high-resolution 3D scans of arteries and precise segmentation of their lumens and outer walls; however, most existing methods for assessing vessel wall thickness are 2D. Despite being valuable, reproducibility and accuracy of 2D techniques depend on the extracted 2D slices. Additionally, these methods fail to fully account for variations in wall thickness in all dimensions. Furthermore, most existing approaches are difficult to be extended into 3D and their measurements lack spatial localization and are primarily confined to lumen boundaries. We advocate for a shift in perspective towards recognizing vessel wall thickness measurement as inherently a 3D challenge and propose adapting the Laplacian method as an outstanding alternative. The Laplacian method is implemented using convolutions, ensuring its efficient and rapid execution on deep learning platforms. Experiments using digital phantoms and vessel wall imaging data are conducted to showcase the accuracy, reproducibility, and localization capabilities of the proposed approach. The proposed method produce consistent outcomes that remain independent of centerlines and 2D slices. Notably, this approach is applicable in both 2D and 3D scenarios. It allows for voxel-wise quantification of wall thickness, enabling precise identification of wall volumes exhibiting abnormal wall thickness. Our research highlights the urgency of transitioning to 3D methodologies for vessel wall thickness measurement. Such a transition not only acknowledges the intricate spatial variations of vessel walls, but also opens doors to more accurate, localized, and insightful diagnostic insights.

Abstract Multicomponent deoxyribozymes (MNAzymes) have great potential in gene therapy, but their ability to recognize disease tissue and further achieve synergistic gene regulation has rarely been studied. Herein, Arginylglycylaspartic acid (RGD)-modified Distearyl acylphosphatidyl ethanolamine (DSPE)-polyethylene glycol (PEG) (DSPE-PEG-RGD) micelle is prepared with a DSPE hydrophobic core to load the photothermal therapy (PTT) dye IR780 and the calcium efflux pump inhibitor curcumin. Then, the MNAzyme is distributed into the hydrophilic PEG layer and sealed with calcium phosphate through biomineralization. Moreover, RGD is attached to the outer tail of PEG for tumor targeting. The constructed nanomachine can release MNAzyme and the cofactor Ca2+ under acidic conditions and self-assemble into an active mode to cleave heat shock protein (HSP) mRNA by consuming the oncogene miRNA-21. Silencing miRNA-21 enhances the expression of the tumor suppressor gene PTEN, leading to PTT sensitization. Meanwhile, curcumin maintains high intracellular Ca2+ to further suppress HSP-chaperone ATP by disrupting mitochondrial Ca2+ homeostasis. Therefore, pancreatic cancer is triple-sensitized to IR780-mediated PTT. The in vitro and in vivo results show that the MNAzyme-based nanomachine can strongly regulate HSP and PTEN expression and lead to significant pancreatic tumor inhibition under laser irradiation.

Abstract CAR T cell therapy has been successfully used in the treatment of hematological malignancies, and the strategy that deletion of inhibitory receptor on the CAR T cell surface, such as PD-1, greatly enhance the antitumor effects. Here, we describe a one-step electroporation for the co-transfection of Cas9:sgRNA and CAR plasmids on primary T cells to demonstrate the effect of SHP-1 deletion in CAR T cells. By using PiggyBac Transposase system, we can achieve more than 90% of T cells express CAR gene and nearly 60% SHP-1 knockout efficiency in T cells. We show that knockout of SHP-1 in CD133 CAR T cells resulted in significantly improve the cytolysis effect on CD133 positive glioma cell lines. We further demonstrate that the enhanced antitumor efficacy of SHP-1 deletion is due to the increased release of TNF-α, IL-2 and IFN-γ in vitro. Finally, we evaluated the biosafety of Cas9 genome editing and did not find any insertions of Cas9 and obvious editing in off-target sites in CAR T cells. These data provide an approach for achieving both intracellular inhibitory molecule, SHP-1 deletion and CD133 CAR gene over-expression in human T cells. And SHP-1 could be a new potential target for adoptive CAR T cells immunotherapy.

Abstract Background Multimodal techniques-assisted resection of glioma under general anesthesia (GA) has been shown to achieve similar clinical outcomes as awake craniotomy (AC) in some studies. In this study, we aim to validate the use of multimodal techniques can achieve the maximal safe resection of high-grade glioma involving language areas (HGILAs) under GA. Methods HGILAs cases were reviewed and collected between January 2009 and December 2020 in our center. Patients were separated into multimodal group (using neuronavigation, intraoperative MRI combined with direct electrical stimulation [DES] and neuromonitoring [IONM]) and conventional group (neuronavigation alone) and clinical outcomes were compared between groups. Studies of HGILAs were reviewed systematically and the meta-analysis results of previous (GA or AC) studies were compared with our results. Epidemiological studies linking a diet rich in these foods to lower cancer risk have sparked extensive research on fisetin’s efficacy.

Abstract Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction is a typical reaction involving two reactants (CO2 and H2O). However, the role of H2O dissociation, which provides active *H species to multiple protonation steps, is usually overlooked. Herein, we construct a dual-active sites catalyst comprising atomic Cu sites and Cu nanoparticles supported on N-doped carbon matrix. Efficient electrosynthesis of multi-carbon products is achieved with Faradaic efficiency approaching 75.4% with a partial current density of 289.2 mA cm−2 at −0.6 V. Experimental and theoretical studies reveal that Cu nanoparticles facilitate the C-C coupling step through *CHO dimerization, while the atomic Cu sites boost H2O dissociation to form *H. The generated *H migrate to Cu nanoparticles and modulate the *H coverage on Cu NPs, and thus promote *CO-to-*CHO. The dual-active sites effect of Cu single-sites and Cu nanoparticles gives rise to the catalytic performance.

The marine biodiversity in Areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ), encompassing approximately two-thirds of the global ocean, is persistently declining. In 2023, the agreement on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biodiversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) was officially adopted. Implementing the BBNJ Agreement has the potential to effectively meet global needs for preserving marine biodiversity. Nevertheless, the implementation requires dealing with thousands of legal clauses, and the parties participating in the process lack adequate means to acquire knowledge connected to BBNJ. This paper introduces ChatBBNJ, a highly efficient question-answering system that combines a novel data engineering technique with large language models (LLMs) of Natural Language Processing (NLP). The system aims to efficiently provide stakeholders with BBNJ-related knowledge, thereby facilitating and enhancing their comprehension and involvement with the subject matter. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed ChatBBNJ exhibits superior expertise in the BBNJ domain, outperforming baseline models in terms of precision, recall, and F1-scores. The successful deployment of the suggested system is expected to greatly assist stakeholders in acquiring BBNJ knowledge and facilitating the effective implementation of the BBNJ Agreement. Therefore, this is expected to contribute to the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in ABNJ.

Ovarian cancer remains a significant health issue worldwide, often facing limitations in treatment due to side effects and drug resistance. Tumor cells typically undergo the “Warburg effect,” preferring glycolysis, which leads to their rapid growth and survival. Metformin, a widely used diabetes medication, targets 5' adenosine monophosphate‐activated protein kinase (AMPK), reducing glycolysis and thereby slowing tumor growth. Additionally, forkhead box protein K2 (FOXK2), a transcription factor often found in excess in many tumors, promotes glycolysis and tumor development. Delivering metformin and FOXK2 siRNA directly to the tumor site in the body is challenging due to the metformin's poor water solubility and the fragile nature of siRNA. To address this, zirconium and 5,10,15,20‐tetra(4‐pyridyl)porphyrin nanoparticles loaded with FOXK2 siRNA, enveloped in cell membrane, co‐encapsulated with metformin in gelatin methacrylate microspheres (ZrTCP@siFOXK2@CM/Met@GelMA) hydrogel microspheres are developed for effective dual delivery. These microspheres facilitate targeted drug delivery, photothermal therapy with near‐infrared light, and interference with glucose metabolism. These results show that infrared light combined with metformin and FOXK2 siRNA successfully activates the AMPK pathway, reducing ovarian cancer growth. This method offers a promising new direction in treatment, utilizing the complex metabolic characteristics of ovarian cancer to achieve better results.

Introduction: Ischemic stroke is the second most common chronic disease worldwide and is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Thromboembolism and platelet aggregation are the most characteristic features of stroke. Other than aspirin, no standard, accepted, or effective treatment for acute ischemic stroke has been established. Consequently, it is essential to identify novel therapeutic compounds for this condition.Methods: In this study, novel ozagrel/paeonol-containing codrugs were synthesized and characterized using 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and mass spectroscopy. Their antiplatelet aggregation activity was evaluated, with compound PNC3 found to exhibit the best effect. Subsequently, studies were conducted to assess its neuroprotective effect, pharmacokinetic properties and model its binding mode to P2Y12 and TXA2, two proteins critical for platelet aggregation.Results: The results indicated that PNC3 has good bioavailability and exerts protective effects against oxygen-glucose deprivation injury in PC12 cells. Molecular docking analysis further demonstrated that the compound interacts with residues located in the active binding sites of the target proteins.Conclusion: The codrugs synthesized in this study display promising pharmacological activities and have the potential for development as an oral formulation.

Periodontitis is characterized by local inflammatory response and the resultant alveolar bone resorption. The elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS) level not only aggravates local inflammation but also prohibits osteogenesis. Hence, simultaneously scavenging ROS and triggering the activity of osteoblasts may produce synergism in periodontium regeneration. Herein, we developed an injectable hydrogel system, CC-B-CAPE@CY-NPs, for periodontitis treatment, in which caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), a naturally-occurring anti-inflammatory ingredient, was caged by aryl borate for ROS-responsive release. Meanwhile, the nanoparticles incorporating Chrysin (CY), another natural product with osteogenetic property, were also coated in the hydrogel. In vitro, the hydrogel was capable of scavenging the excessive ROS and modulating the polarization of M1 macrophages, highlighting its anti-inflammatory potency. In addition, its osteogenetic effect was verified by the increased ALP activity in the hydrogel-treated periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs). Our studies revealed the anti-inflammatory stemmed from its ablation of NF-κB signaling, while the activation of Wnt/β-catenin cascade accounted for its osteogenetic potency. In a rat periodontitis model, the capability of reducing ROS levels, modulating macrophage polarization, and promoting osteogenesis was transformed into the recovery of destructed alveolar bone. All above, the hydrogel possesses great potential as a promising remedy for periodontitis.

Autism is a widespread neurodevelopmental disorder. Although the research on autism spectrum disorders has been increasing in the past decade, there is still no specific answer to its mechanism of action and treatment. As a pro-inflammatory microRNA, miR-301a is abnormally expressed in various psychiatric diseases including autism. Here, we show that miR-301a deletion and inhibition exhibited two distinct abnormal behavioral phenotypes in mice. We observed that miR-301a deletion in mice impaired learning/memory, and enhanced anxiety. On the contrary, miR-301a inhibition effectively reduced the maternal immune activation (MIA)-induced autism-like behaviors in mice. We further demonstrated that miR-301a bound to the 3′UTR region of the SOCS3, and that inhibition of miR-301a led to the upregulation of SOCS3 in hippocampus. The last result in the reduction of the inflammatory response by inhibiting phosphorylation of AKT and STAT3, and the expression level of IL-17A in poly(I:C)-induced autism-like features in mice. The obtained data revealed the miR-301a as a critical participant in partial behavior phenotypes, which may exhibit a divergent role between gene knockout and knockdown. Our findings ascertain that miR-301a negatively regulates SOCS3 in MIA-induced autism in mice and could present a new therapeutic target for ameliorating the behavioral abnormalities of autism.

Abstract The procollagen C-protease enhancer (PCOLCE) has been identified to influence tumor growth and metastasis in multiple cancers. However, the relationship between PCOLCE activity and the progression of gliomas remains largely unknown. Glioma RNA-seq data were derived from the Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas (CGGA) and The Cancer Genome Atlas databases for analysis. Kaplan–Meier survival curve, clinical characterization correlation, univariate and multivariate Cox, and receiver operating characteristic curve analyses were performed to assess the prognostic role of PCOLCE. Gene Ontology, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes, and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis were used to determine the functions or pathways associated with PCOLCE. The ESTIMATE and CIBERSORT algorithms, Spearman’s rank correlation analysis, and Tumor Immune Estimation Resource (TIMER) databases were used to explore the relationship between PCOLCE and immune infiltration. Correlation analysis between PCOLCE, related genes, and immune cell markers was conducted using the TIMER database. Immunophenoscore assays were performed to determine differential PCOLCE expression levels in glioma. The sensitivity of multi-drugs were determined to explore potential chemotherapeutic agents in between PCOLCE. Compared to normal brain tissue, PCOLCE expression was increased in glioma and correlated with shorter overall survival (OS). Furthermore, significant differences were observed in the immune scores and immune cell infiltration levels. PCOLCE is positively associated with immune checkpoints and many immune markers. Summary: Efficient and sustainable amino acid synthesis is essential for industrial applications. Electrocatalytic reductive amination has emerged as a promising method, but challenges such as undesired side reactions and low efficiency persist. Herein, we demonstrated a lignin-derived catalyst for alanine synthesis. Carbon nanosheets (CNSs) were synthesized from lignin via a template-assisted method and doped with nitrogen and sulfur to boost reductive amination and suppress side reactions. The resulting N,S-co-doped carbon nanosheets (NS-CNSs) exhibited outstanding electrochemical performance. It achieved a maximum alanine Faradaic efficiency of 79.5%, and a yield exceeding 1,199 μmol h−1 cm−2 on NS-CNS, with a selectivity above 99.9%. NS-CNS showed excellent durability during long-term electrolysis. Kinetic studies including control experiments and theoretical calculations provided further insights into the reaction pathway. Moreover, NS-CNS catalysts demonstrated potential in upgrading real-world polylactic acid plastic waste, yielding value-added alanine with a selectivity over 75%.

Aim: To determine natural compounds with inhibitory effects toward SARS-CoV-2 Mpro from Chinese herbal medicines. Materials & methods: ∼1200 natural compounds from 19 Chinese herbal medicines were collected. Computational methods including molecular docking, drug-likeness assessment, molecular dynamics simulation and molecular mechanics Poisson-Boltzmann surface area analysis were combined to obtain potent inhibitors against SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. Results: Top 20 compounds mainly originated from Ranunculus ternatus and Picrasma quassioides exhibited low binding free energies which below -9.0 kcal/mol. Compounds Japonicone G and Picrasidine T were obtained with favorable drug-likeness. Moreover, the complex of Japonicone G and Mpro had prominent stability. Conclusion: Natural compound Japonicone G is highly promising as a potent inhibitor against SARS-CoV-2 for further study.

The high clearance spray is a type of large and efficient agricultural machinery used for plant protection, and path tracking control is the key to ensure the efficient and safe operation of spray. Sliding mode control and other methods are commonly used abroad to track vehicles, while fuzzy control, neural networks and other methods are commonly used at home. However, domestic and foreign research on autonomous agricultural machinery is mainly focused on tractors and other machinery, while research on self-propelled spray in high clearance is less abundant. This paper takes the path tracking algorithm in the integrated navigation system of spray as the main research goal, studies the path tracking control algorithm for straight lines and turning curves that can realize the automatic driving of spray by establishing the path tracking algorithm for unmanned spray based on dual control strategies, designs the path tracking controller, including the preview model theoretical path tracking controller and variable domain fuzzy controller, and determines the preview model through the design of the preview model theoretical path tracking controller. The lateral and longitudinal errors of the model algorithm are analyzed, and the driving characteristics under the complex spray road surface are analyzed. The design of the variable domain fuzzy predictor theory path tracking controller is proposed, and the design of the road model selection controller is calculated and analyzed in detail, including the determination of the road roughness coefficient and the selection of the range of the difference between the average value of the excitation before and after sampling, which improves the performance of the spray path tracking algorithm. The experiment shows that the proposed path tracking control algorithm can meet the path tracking requirements of unmanned spray in the current road environment, and provide a reliable solution for the automatic control of high clearance spray.

Hierarchical surface micro/nanopatterns enable iontronic materials to show performance enhancement in piezoionic mechanoreception and skin-interfaced coupling electrode adhesion. Here, the author proposes a facile and robust method to fabricate hierarchical and asymmetrical iontronic micropatterns through programmed regulation of the internal stress distribution and local ionic migration.

Abstract Tamarix cones play key roles in preventing sand erosion and maintaining regional ecosystem stability. This study aimed to explore the characteristics of soil grain size distribution (GSD) in Tamarix cones across the Taklimakan Desert, verify the relationships between soil grain composition and the fractal dimension, and analyze the relationships between soil GSD and environmental factors. Soils of the Tamarix cones from 0 to 500 cm soil depth were sampled every 20 cm at four sites (Qiemo, Qira, Aral, and Tazhong) along the periphery to the hinterland of the Taklimakan Desert. A total of 300 soil samples were collected to measure soil grain sizes and soil properties. Soil grain size composition was dominated by silt and very fine sand, and the fraction of fine particles decreased and that of the coarse particles increased with soil depth, except for at Tazhong. This suggested that suspension-size particles are the main component of the soil GSD and decrease with the increasing depth in the profiles at the Tamarix cones. The soils were poorly and moderately poorly sorted. Kurtosis generally showed a mesokurtic peak, and the GSD was negatively skewed towards the coarser particles. The fractal dimensions of GSD decreased in the following order Qiemo (2.30) > Qira (2.07) > Aral (1.99) > Tazhong (1.96) because of the increase of coarse particles. The fractal dimension had a strong positive correlation with the clay and silt fractions, and a strong negative correlation with the sand fraction, indicating that the fractal dimension can reflect the characteristics of the soil GSD. The strong relationships between the fractal dimensions and selected soil properties indicate that the fractal dimension can not only quantify changes in soil properties, but also reflect the degree of desertification and degradation in the desert region. Considering the strong wind activities and different deposition sources in the Taklimakan Desert, this study provides a deep insight into the soil formation processes of Tamarix cones within extreme arid desert ecosystems.

Kimberlite in the Mengyin area serves as an excellent medium for studying the characteristics and evolutionary processes of the Paleozoic mantle. In order to determine the age of the primary calcite within the kimberlite, in situ carbonate U–Pb dating was conducted in the Mengyin area. The results indicate that the primary calcite in the kimberlite originated approximately 383 ± 18 Ma (MSWD = 6.6). This age constraint suggests that the eruption of the kimberlite took place during this period, leading to the thermal alteration of limestone xenoliths, ultimately forming marble. Consequently, it can be inferred that lithospheric thinning occurred no later than the Late Devonian period. Fluid inclusions found within the marble provide further insights into its formation. The recorded formation temperature of the marble ranges from 243°C to 370°C, with a salinity range of 2.57%–14.77% (NaCl). The pressure estimates fall within the range of 3.22–20.70 MPa, indicating a depth mainly between 900 and 1,000 m. Based on these findings, it can be inferred that the overall denudation depth in the west Shandong area, since the Late Devonian, is estimated to be approximately 900–1,000 m. Furthermore, the overall crustal rise rate is estimated to be approximately 3 m/Ma.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) induces immunogenic cell death (ICD) by producing reactive oxygen species (ROS), making it an ideal method for cancer treatment. However, the extremely lower level of oxygen, short half-life of produced ROS, and limited photosensitizers accumulating in the tumor site via intravenous administration are the main reasons that limit the further application of PDT. To address these issues, we loaded the photosensitizer porphine (THPP) into biomimetic gold nanorod-mesoporous silica core-shell nanoparticles (Au-MSN NPs) to prepare Au@MSN/THPP@CM NPs. We then seeded the NPs together with catalase (CAT) into a gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) microgel matrix to form Au@MSN-Ter/THPP@CM@GelMA/CAT microspheres consisting of biomimetic nano@microgel. The NPs and biomimetic nano@microgel exhibited enhanced photodynamic (PD) reaction and excellent photothermal conversion ability. Moreover, we further conjugated an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) targeting ligand Tosyl Ethylenediamine (Ter) on the surface of Au-MSN NPs. The results showed that both Au@MSN-Ter/THPP@CM NPs and the finally formed Au@MSN-Ter/THPP@CM@GelMA/CAT biomimetic nano@microgel induced precise and prolonged ER stress through photodynamic reactions, which stimulated the exposure of the proapoptotic calreticulin (CRT) on the cell membrane and increased the release of high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) form the nucleus in SKOV3 cells under near-infrared (NIR) laser irradiation. Additionally, a single dose of the nano@microgel delivered through minimally invasive injection generated a significant anti-tumor effect in the SKOV3 cell line-derived orthotopic ovarian cancer mouse model through a PD and PT combination therapy. This study offers a new strategy for enhanced PDT and provides a PD/PT synergistic treatment method for ovarian cancer.

Abstract Objectives Although the neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI) has been shown useful to evaluate the spinal cord dysfunction, there are few prospective studies on analyzing the operation recovery of degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) disease using NODDI. This study aims to investigate the preoperative evaluation and predictive ability of NODDI in DCM patients who received posterior cervical laminoplasty. Methods This prospective study included 55 patients with DCM from January to December 2017. NODDI metrics, including intracellular volume fraction (Vic), isotropic volume fraction (Viso), and orientation dispersion index (ODI) were measured at the maximally compressed (MC) level and the non‐compressed C2 level in each patient at the preoperative and the 3‐ and 6‐month postoperative follow‐up stages. Neurological function was assessed using the modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association (mJOA) scoring system at each stage. Spearman's correlation and Kendall's tau‐b correlation were used to analyze the relationship between NODDI metrics and mJOA scores. Wilcoxon signed rank test was used to examine the changes in the NODDI and mJOA scores between the preoperative and 6‐month follow‐up stages. ROC analysis was used to further evaluate the predictive capability. Results Preoperative Vic at the level of C2 has a significant correlation with the preoperative mJOA score (r = 0.278, p = 0.048). Vic and Viso at the MC level were significantly different between the preoperative period and 6‐month follow‐up. Viso at the MC level was correlated with the mJOA score at 6‐month follow‐up (r = −0.302, p = 0.044). Vic and ODI at the C2 level predicted the surgical prognosis, with areas under the receiver‐operating characteristic curve of 0.663 (p = 0.042) and 0.716 (p = 0.014). Conclusions The preoperative NODDI metrics at the C2 level are capable of evaluating the severity of spinal cord dysfunction and predict the surgical outcome.
