Vegetation–soil–microbial relationships significantly affect global climatic and environmental changes. Fluctuations in temperature and precipitation caused by climate change are the driving forces of dynamic changes in vegetation–soil–microbial relationships. Our study was conducted in the desert grassland of Ningxia, China, and involved five levels of annual precipitation (33 % (R33), 66 % (R66), 100 % (RCK), 133 % (R133), and 166 % (R166)) and two temperature levels (within and outside the open-top chamber). Our objective was to determine how vegetation–soil–microbial relationships in desert grasslands respond to changes in precipitation and warming. Our results showed that precipitation was positively correlated with above-ground living and root biomass, and soil organic carbon. R166 had the strongest effect on the correlation between vegetation, soil, and microbes, whereas R33 had the weakest effect. Temperature was positively correlated with soil microbial α-diversity, and the effect of warming on the correlation among vegetation, soil, and microbes was less significant than under natural temperature. The combination of precipitation and warming was positively correlated with the above-ground living biomass and soil respiration. The correlation effects of the combination of precipitation and warming on vegetation, soil, and microbes were more substantial than those of precipitation and warming. Our findings provide a theoretical basis for the formulation of reasonable response strategies for desert steppe ecosystems.

The composition of volatile compounds in beer is crucial to the quality of beer. Herein, we identified 23 volatile compounds, namely, 12 esters, 4 alcohols, 5 acids, and 2 phenols, in nine different beer types using GC–MS. By performing PCA of the data of the flavor compounds, the different beer types were well discriminated. Ethyl caproate, ethyl caprylate, and phenylethyl alcohol were identified as the crucial volatile compounds to discriminate different beers. PLS regression analysis was performed to model and predict the contents of six crucial volatile compounds in the beer samples based on the characteristic wavelength of the FTIR spectrum. The R2 value of each sample in the prediction model was 0.9398–0.9994, and RMSEP was 0.0122–0.7011. The method proposed in this paper has been applied to determine flavor compounds in beer samples with good consistency compared with GC–MS.

Abstract Electrosynthesis of acetate from CO offers the prospect of a low-carbon-intensity route to this valuable chemical––but only once sufficient selectivity, reaction rate and stability are realized. It is a high priority to achieve the protonation of the relevant intermediates in a controlled fashion, and to achieve this while suppressing the competing hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and while steering multicarbon (C2+) products to a single valuable product––an example of which is acetate. Here we report interface engineering to achieve solid/liquid/gas triple-phase interface regulation, and we find that it leads to site-selective protonation of intermediates and the preferential stabilization of the ketene intermediates: this, we find, leads to improved selectivity and energy efficiency toward acetate. Once we further tune the catalyst composition and also optimize for interfacial water management, we achieve a cadmium-copper catalyst that shows an acetate Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 75% with ultralow HER (

Abstract Background Oral carbohydrate (CHO) intake is a safe method with effective clinical results in various surgical patients before surgery. Nevertheless, due to a lack of adequate clinical data, it is not frequently utilized in older patients undergoing orthopedic surgery for osteoporotic fractures (OPFs), especially in China. The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship between preoperative oral CHO consumption and outcomes in elderly patients undergoing surgical treatment for OPFs. Methods This retrospective cohort study was conducted at a single Chinese institution and included a total of 879 elderly patients (median age: 71 years; range: 50–99 years) who underwent OPF surgery. Various exclusion criteria were established as follows: (a) the necessity for urgent surgical intervention; (b) the existence of hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, or diabetes mellitus with blood glucose levels lower than 2.8 mmol/L; (c) a medical history of gastrointestinal motility disorders or delayed gastric emptying; (d) the utilization of local anesthesia; (e) a Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) score over 2; and (f) an American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score exceeding 3. After propensity score (PS) matching, 264 patients from each cohort were included in the analysis. The primary outcome was the all-cause mortality rate within 60 days post-surgery, while secondary outcomes included the length of hospital stay (LOS), hospitalization costs, intraoperative and postoperative blood transfusions, and the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) and aspiration. The relationship between preoperative oral CHO intake and outcomes was evaluated using multivariate regression analysis. Results After PS matching, preoperative oral CHO intake was negatively associated with 60-day mortality in the fully adjusted model (odds ratio 0.35; 95% confidence interval 0.12–0.97; P-value: 0.04). Patients who received preoperative oral CHO intake also had a shorter LOS and lower hospitalization costs than those who did not receive CHO intake. However, none of the models showed a significant association between CHO intake and PONV or blood transfusion risk. Furthermore, no cases of aspiration were observed in either cohort. Conclusions Preoperative oral CHO intake may be associated with reduced mortality risk and improved outcomes in elderly patients undergoing surgical treatment for OPFs. However, it is important to acknowledge the limitations of our study, including its retrospective nature, potential unmeasured confounding variables, the small sample size, incomplete data on important variables such as duration of surgery and inflammatory markers, and the limited generalizability due to the participation of only one institution. Future research with larger sample sizes and a broader range of events is warranted to validate and enhance the validity of our findings, particularly in assessing long-term results and understanding the underlying mechanisms.

Abstract Background Hospice and Palliative Care (HPC) is in high demand in China; however, the country is facing the shortage of qualified HPC nurses. A well-suited competence framework is needed to promote HPC human resource development. Nevertheless, existing unstandardized single-structured frameworks may not be sufficient to meet this need. This study aimed at constructing a comprehensive multi-structured HPC competence framework for nurses. Methods This study employed a mixed-method approach, including a systematic review and qualitative interview for HPC competence profile extraction, a two-round Delphi survey to determine the competences for the framework, and a cross-sectional study for framework structure exploration. The competence profiles were extracted from publications from academic databases and interviews recruiting nurses working in the HPC field. The research team synthesized profiles and transferred them to competences utilizing existing competence dictionaries. These synthesized competences were then subjected to Delphi expert panels to determine the framework elements. The study analyzed theoretical structure of the framework through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) based on a cross-sectional study receiving 491 valid questionnaires. Results The systematic review involved 30 publications from 10 countries between 1995 and 2021, while 13 nurses from three hospitals were interviewed. In total, 87 and 48 competence profiles were respectively extracted from systematic review and interview and later synthesized into 32 competences. After the Delphi survey, 25 competences were incorporated into the HPC competence framework for nurses. The EFA found a two-factor structure, with factor 1 comprising 18 competences namely Basic Competences; factor 2 concluding 7 competences namely Developmental Competences. Conclusions The two-factor HPC competence framework provided valuable insights into the need and directions of Chinese HPC nurses’ development.

Purpose: To assess safety and ocular hypotensive efficacy of VVN539 ophthalmic solution in a first-in-human study. Design: Multicenter, double-masked, randomized, vehicle-controlled, dose-response, parallel-comparison study. Participants: Sixty-eight subjects with ocular hypertension (OHT) or open-angle glaucoma enrolled at 5 private practices. Methods: After washout of ocular hypotensive medications as required, the subjects were randomized to receive either VVN539 ophthalmic solution 0.02%, 0.04%, or vehicle once-daily (QD) in the morning (5 days), once-daily in the evening (6 days) and then twice-daily (6 days). Main Outcome Measures: Comparison of VVNM539 to its vehicle in mean intraocular pressure (IOP) at each diurnal time point (8:00am, 10:00am, and 4:00pm) at visit 4 (day 7), visit 5 (day 14), and visit 6 (day 21). Results: Mean IOP decreased throughout dosing in the active groups to between 18 and 20 mmHg in both active groups, to between 22 to 23 mmHg in the vehicle group. VVN539 0.04% was statistically superior to vehicle at all 9 diurnal time points (QD AM, QD PM, and twice daily, P ≤ 0.0109). VVN539 0.02% was statistically superior to vehicle at only 6 of 9 diurnal time points (selected QD times and twice daily). The most common ocular treatment-emergent adverse event was conjunctival hyperemia (11 [47.8%], 10 [4.5%], and 1 [4.3%]), followed by ocular hyperemia (3 [13.0%], 5 [22.7%] and 0), respectively. There were no clinically significant changes of note in visual acuity, biomicroscopy, dilated ophthalmoscopy, blood chemistry, hematology, or cardiovascular measures. Conclusions: In conclusion, the results of this initial phase II study indicate that VVN539 ophthalmic solution showed clinically and statistically significant ocular hypertensive activity and was relatively well tolerated for the treatment of subjects with primary open-angle glaucoma or OHT. Additional studies will be required for a more complete evaluation of the utility of VVN539 ophthalmic solution. Abstract Background The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of bevacizumab (Bev) in reducing peritumoral brain edema (PTBE) after stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) for lung cancer brain metastases. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 44 patients with lung cancer brain metastases (70 lesions) who were admitted to our oncology and Gamma Knife center from January 2020 to May 2022. All patients received intracranial SRT and had PTBE. Based on treatment with Bev, patients were categorized as SRT + Bev and SRT groups. Follow‐up head magnetic resonance imaging was performed to calculate PTBE and tumor volume changes. The edema index (EI) was used to assess the severity of PTBE. Additionally, the extent of tumor reduction and intracranial progression‐free survival (PFS) were compared between the two groups. Results The SRT + Bev group showed a statistically significant difference in EI values before and after radiotherapy (p = 0.0115), with lower values observed after treatment, but there was no difference in the SRT group (p = 0.4008). There was a difference in the distribution of EI grades in the SRT + Bev group (p = 0.0186), with an increased proportion of patients at grades 1–2 after radiotherapy, while there was no difference in the SRT group (p > 0.9999). Background and aims: The primary goal of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) treatment is to reduce hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). T helper 17 (Th17) and regulatory T (Treg) cells are essential for the development of CHB. However, how Th17 and Treg cells contribute to HBsAg loss is still unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to search for the predictive value of Th17 and Treg cells for HBsAg loss in CHB patients with low HBsAg quantification. Methods: The study included 99 hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-negative CHB patients who had completed a year of nucleos(t)ide analogue (NA) monotherapy and had received both NA and pegylated interferon (PEG-IFN) treatment for less than 96 weeks (96 wk). In the cured group, 48 patients lost HBsAg within 48 wk, while 51 patients did not (uncured group). Blood samples and clinical data were collected for research. Results: During PEG-IFN and NA combination therapy, the proportion of Th17 cells in the cured group increased significantly, while the proportion of Treg cells in the uncured group increased. From 0 to 24 wk, the proportion of Th17 cells in the cured group was significantly higher than in the uncured group, while the opposite was true for Treg cells. Patients with alanine aminotransferase (ALT) ≥ 2.5 upper limit of normal (ULN) at 12 wk had a higher proportion of Th17 cells and a lower proportion of Treg cells than those with ALT

AbstractObjective To explore potential biomarkers indicating endometriosis (EM).Materials and methods A proteomics method and combined quantitative transcriptomics were adopted to highlight markers in the EM. Venn analysis was used to integrate the ribonucleic acid sequencing (RNA-seq) and protein profiles. Promising candidate markers were tested by enzyme-related immunosorbent assay.Results A sum of 979 mRNAs and 39 proteins were tested to be significantly differentially expression in the standard cluster compared with the EM cluster. Venn analysis showed a filtered signature of only two down-regulated molecules in the EM group, i.e. fetuin B (FETUB) and serpin family C member 1 (SERPINC1); the latter showed a big variance between the control category and the EM set in the authentication test.Conclusion SERPINC1 may be a useful possible biomarker for the analysis of EM.

A body flap is usually arranged on the base of the plane-symmetry reusable launch vehicle with the longest moment arm for the need of pitch balancing control. Jet interaction from main engine with body flaps is an important problem that cannot be ignored in the design of reusable launch vehicles, which would cause severe regional heating of the flaps and increase technical difficulty of thermal protection design. In this paper, the high temperature jet interaction with the body flaps was studied in a combustion gas flow wind tunnel experiment, and jet heating characteristics of direct acting and secondary interference were obtained and analyzed. Then, numerical simulations on the complex jet interaction flow field for typical flight conditions were carried out using a multi-species frozen model which is verified by the experiment data. Finally, correlation analyses of heat flux and flow field characteristics both for the jet direct acting and secondary interfe-rence were performed, by which the jet heating main controlling factors and correlations were obtained for two different interference types. Such method is very effective to realize a fast and accurate jet heating prediction for a reusable launch vehicle.

Abstract Electrochemical CO2 reduction (CO2R) is an approach to closing the carbon cycle for chemical synthesis. To date, the field has focused on the electrolysis of ambient pressure CO2. However, industrial CO2 is pressurized—in capture, transport and storage—and is often in dissolved form. Here, we find that pressurization to 50 bar steers CO2R pathways toward formate, something seen across widely-employed CO2R catalysts. By developing operando methods compatible with high pressures, including quantitative operando Raman spectroscopy, we link the high formate selectivity to increased CO2 coverage on the cathode surface. The interplay of theory and experiments validates the mechanism, and guides us to functionalize the surface of a Cu cathode with a proton-resistant layer to further the pressure-mediated selectivity effect. This work illustrates the value of industrial CO2 sources as the starting feedstock for sustainable chemical synthesis.

Abstract Enzymatic sensors have inherent problems such as the low stability and limited pH range in industrial and biomedical applications and therefore, more efficient nonenzymatic sensors are highly desirable. Herein, plasma‐functionalized defective MoSe2 is prepared and studied as a highly efficient catalyst for electrochemical sensing of H2O2. Experiments and theoretical computations show that the plasma‐induced Se multi‐vacancies and nitrogen dopants generate new active sites, expose more edge active surfaces, narrow the bandgap, and strengthen binding with the ·OH intermediate, which imparts new fundamental knowledge about the roles of defects in catalysis. The defective MoSe2‐catalyzed sensor delivers competitive performance in hydrogen peroxide detection such as a low detection limit of 12.6 nmol/L, wide operational pH range of 1−13, good long‐term stability, and high selectivity. The portable sensor produced by screen printing confirms the excellent commercial potential and in addition, the results not only reveal a novel concept to design and fabricate high‐performance sensors for H2O2 but also provide insights into the effectiveness of surface modification of diverse catalytic materials.

Fault detection and localization are vital for ensuring the stability of data center networks (DCNs). Specifically, adaptive fault diagnosis is deemed a fundamental technology in achieving the fault tolerance of systems. The highly scalable data center network (HSDC) is a promising structure of server-centric DCNs, as it exhibits the capacity for incremental scalability, coupled with the assurance of low cost and energy consumption, low diameter, and high bisection width. In this paper, we first determine that both the connectivity and diagnosability of the m-dimensional complete HSDC, denoted by HSDCm(m), are m. Further, we propose an efficient adaptive fault diagnosis algorithm to diagnose an HSDCm(m) within three test rounds, and at most N+4m(m−2) tests with m≥3 (resp. at most nine tests with m=2), where N=m·2m is the total number of nodes in HSDCm(m). Our experimental outcomes demonstrate that this diagnosis scheme of HSDC can achieve complete diagnosis and significantly reduce the number of required tests.

A stellar-mass black hole (BH) surrounded by a neutrino-dominated accretion flow (NDAF) is generally considered to be the central engine of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). Neutrinos escaping from the disk will annihilate outside the disk to produce the fireball that could power GRBs with blackbody (BB) components. The initial GRB jet power and fireball launch radius are related to the annihilation luminosity and annihilation height of the NDAFs, respectively. In this paper, we collect seven GRBs with known redshifts and identified BB components to test whether the NDAF model works. We find that, in most cases, the values of the accretion rates and the central BH properties are all in the reasonable range, suggesting that these BB components indeed originate from the neutrino annihilation process.

Active galactic nucleus (AGN) disks are widely considered potential hosts for various high-energy transients, including gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). The reactivation of GRB central engines can provide additional energy to shocks formed during the interaction of the initially ejected GRB jets with the circumburst material, commonly referred to as energy injections. In this paper, we study GRBs occurring in AGN disks within the context of energy injections. We adopt the standard external forward shock (EFS) model and consider both short- and long-duration GRB scenarios. Light curves for two types of radiation, namely, the radiation from the heated disk material (RHDM) and GRB afterglows, are computed. We find that the energy injection facilitates the EFS to break out from the photosphere of the low-density AGN disk at relativistic velocity. Moreover, the energy injection almost does not affect the RHDM but significantly enhances the peak flux of the GRB afterglows.

Abstract Background The complement system plays an important role in the development of left ventricular hypertrophy. Complement C1q is an initial component of the classical complement pathway and is related to many inflammatory diseases. We aimed to determine whether there was an association between serum complement C1q and left ventricular hypertrophy induced by coarctation of the aorta (CoA). Methods Based on whether CoA was combined with a large ventricular septal defect (VSD) or patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), the patients were divided into a simple CoA group (n = 15) and a complex CoA group (n = 13). Meanwhile, we selected simple large VSD (n = 14) patients and normal children (n = 28) as the control group. The serum complement C1q level was compared using immunity transmission turbidity among different groups. Results The preoperative content of C1q in the simple CoA group was significantly lower than that in the complex CoA group and normal group (96.97 ± 20.66 vs. 130.73 ± 35.78, 96.97 ± 20.66 vs. 156.21 ± 29.14, P 0.05). There was a negative correlation between the preoperative complement C1q content and the interventricular septal thickness and left ventricular posterior wall thickness (r = − 0.035, r = − 0.288, P 0.05). In the simple CoA group and complex CoA group, the preoperative complement C1q, TG, TCHO, HDL-C and LDL-C levels were significantly higher than those after the operation (P 0.05). Conclusions Complement C1q has an inhibitory effect on the formation of left ventricular hypertrophy, which may not be mediated by regulating lipid metabolism. During cardiac surgery, complement C1q may have a protective effect against myocardial injury.

Abstract Percutaneous endovascular biopsy (PEB) including forceps biopsy and catheter aspiration has been used to make a pretreatment diagnosis for pulmonary artery (PA) masses. This retrospective study aims to describe the procedure of PEB and compare the diagnostic yield of forceps biopsy and catheter aspiration for a definite diagnosis in patients with PA masses. All consecutive 22 patients (53 ± 14 years), 11 males and 11 females, who underwent PEB for pathologic confirmation between November 2018 and November 2022 were enrolled. All 22 patients performed computed tomography pulmonary angiography or positron emission tomography‐computed tomography to confirm the filling defects suspicious for PA malignancy before intervention. And then, all patients underwent PEB successfully without acute or fatal complications, including both forceps biopsy and catheter aspiration in 15 cases, only forceps biopsy in 5 cases, and only catheter aspiration in 2 cases. Histopathological analysis provided a definite diagnosis in all PEBs with a clinical success of 91.0% (20/22). Among them, in 15 patients who underwent both forceps biopsy and aspiration biopsy, the technical success using forceps biopsy was 93.3% (14/15), and aspiration biopsy was 6.7% (1/15), and there was a significant difference in diagnostic accuracy when comparing two techniques. Twenty‐one out of 22 PA masses (95.5%) were malignant, of which, the most frequent malignant lesion observed was PA sarcoma (66.7%, 14/21). Benign lesion included one thrombus (4.5%, 1/22). In conclusion, PEB is an effective and safe diagnostic method for differentiating benign and malignant PA masses and could be peformed when PA masses appeared clinically malignant.

Abstract Background Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) leads to huge economic losses in the poultry industry worldwide. The high levels of mutations of IBV render vaccines partially protective. Therefore, it is urgent to explore an effective antiviral drug or agent. The present study aimed to investigate the in vivo anti-IBV activity of a mixture of plant essential oils (PEO) of cinnamaldehyde (CA) and glycerol monolaurate (GML), designated as Jin-Jing-Zi. Results The antiviral effects were evaluated by clinical signs, viral loads, immune organ indices, antibody levels, and cytokine levels. The infection rates in the PEO-M (middle dose) and PEO-H (high dose) groups were significantly lower than those in the prevention, positive drug, and PEO-L (low dose) groups. The cure rates in the PEO-M and PEO-H groups were significantly higher than those in the prevention, positive drug, and PEO-L groups, and the PEO-M group had the highest cure rate of 92.31%. The symptom scores and IBV mRNA expression levels were significantly reduced in the PEO-M group. PEO significantly improved the immune organ indices and IBV-specific antibody titers of infected chickens. The anti-inflammatory factor levels of IL-4 and IFN-γ in the PEO-M group maintained high concentrations for a long time. The IL-6 levels in the PEO-M group were lower than those in prevention, positive drug, and PEO-L groups. Conclusion The PEO had remarkable inhibition against IBV and the PEO acts by inhibiting virus multiplication and promoting immune function, suggesting that the PEO has great potential as a novel anti-IBV agent for inhibiting IBV infection.

Five lanthanide complexes with polydentate coordination were successfully synthesized by volatilization of 2,4-difluorobenzoate and o-phenanthroline ligands. The structure general formula is [Ln(2,4-DFBA)3(phen)]2, (Ln = La(1), Gd(2), Tb(3), Dy(4), Ho(5); 2,4-DFBA = 2,4-difluorobenzoate, phen = o-phenanthroline). The crystal structures of five complexes were determined, and supramolecular structures were probed. Characterization was performed by elemental analysis, IR, Raman spectroscopy and XRD, followed by an examination of the fluorescence and heat capacity properties. The molar heat capacities of complexes 4 and 5 were determined in detail by the DSC apparatus, and the thermodynamic functions were calculated. Finally, the fluorescence properties of complexes 3 and 4 were investigated. Using DFT, the HOMO, LUMO energy levels of the ligands and their single and triplet state energy levels were calculated at the level of the valence layer cleavage 6-311G(d,p) basis group, and the fluorescence enhancement mechanism was explained from the energy transfer perspective.

The design of interconnection networks is a fundamental aspect of high-performance computing (HPC) systems. Among the available topologies, the Galaxyfly network stands out as a low-diameter and flexible-radix network for HPC applications. Given the paramount importance of collective communication in HPC performance, in this paper, we present two different all-to-all broadcast algorithms for the Galaxyfly network, which adhere to the supernode-first rule and the router-first rule, respectively. Our performance evaluation validates their effectiveness and shows that the first algorithm has a higher degree of utilization of network channels, and that the second algorithm can significantly reduce the average time for routers to collect packets from the supernode.

AIM: To compare the visual outcomes of children with small (≤3 mm) posterior polar cataracts (PPC) and posterior lenticonus who had cataract extraction surgery with the visual outcomes of those who were managed conservatively. METHODS: Children who initially had small PPC and posterior lenticonus who were followed up over 1-year period were retrospective reviewed in the study. Patients receiving surgery were compared with those receiving conservative therapy. The axial length, keratometry, refraction, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), and strabismus measurements were recorded. Lens morphology, i.e., the location, size, and depth of the cataract lesion, was measured with a Scheimpflug imaging system. To help control for baseline differences in the groups, patients were matched with controls by propensity score methodology. RESULTS: The study evaluated 60 patients (30 in the surgery group and 30 in the conservative therapy group) after matching by propensity score. Patients who underwent cataract surgery showed greater BCVA improvements (0.36±0.24 logMAR) than patients who were treated without surgery (0.22±0.26 logMAR; P=0.036). Surgery was effective in patients with a rear projection length (RPL) less than 1.0 mm and a pretreatment BCVA worse than 0.52 logMAR. CONCLUSION: Children with small PPC and posterior lenticonus who undergo cataract surgery experience greater BCVA improvements than those managed conservatively. Certain patients presenting with a RPL less than 1.0 mm and a pretreatment BCVA of 0.52 logMAR or worse may benefit from surgery.

This study aimed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of glucose fluctuation-related myocardial fibrosis.MethodsStreptozotocin (STZ)-injected type 1 diabetic rats were randomized to five groups: the controlled blood glucose (CBG) group, uncontrolled blood glucose (UBG) group, fluctuated blood glucose (FBG) group, FBG rats injected with 0.9% sodium chloride (NaCl) (FBG + NaCl) group, and FBG rats injected with MCC950 (FBG + MCC950) group. Eight weeks later, left ventricular function was evaluated by echocardiography and myocardial fibrosis was observed by Masson trichrome staining. The primary neonatal rat cardiac fibroblasts were cultured with different concentrations of glucose in vitro.ResultsThe left ventricular function was impaired and myocardial fibrosis was aggravated most significantly in the FBG group compared with the CBG and UBG groups. The levels of interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-18, transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), collagen type 1 (collagen I), nuclear factor (NF)-κB, and nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome were significantly increased in the FBG group. In vitro, the inhibition of NF-κB and inflammasome reversed these effects. In vivo, NLRP3 inhibition with MCC950 reversed left ventricular systolic dysfunction and myocardial fibrosis induced by glucose fluctuations.ConclusionGlucose fluctuations promote diabetic myocardial fibrosis by the NF-κB-mediated inflammasome activation.

Abstract Background Neisseria meningitidis is a major cause of bacterial meningitis, and these infections are associated with a high mortality rate. Rapid and reliable diagnosis of bacterial meningitis is critical in clinical practice. However, this disease often occurs in economically depressed areas, so an inexpensive, easy to use, and accurate technology is needed. We performed a pooled-analysis to assess the potential of the recently developed loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay for detection of meningococcus. Methods Pubmed, Embase, and Web of Science were searched to identify original studies that used the LAMP assay to detect meningococcus. After pooling of data, the sensitivity and specificity were calculated, a summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC) curve was determined, and the area under the SROC curve was computed to determine diagnostic accuracy. Publication bias was assessed using Deek’s funnel plot. Results We examined 14 studies within 6 publications. The LAMP assay had high sensitivity (94%) and specificity (100%) in the detection of meningococcus in all studies. The area under the SROC curve (0.980) indicated high overall accuracy of the LAMP assay. There was no evidence of publication bias. Discussion The LAMP assay has accuracy comparable to bacterial culture and PCR for detection of meningococcus, but is less expensive and easier to use. We suggest the adoption of the LAMP assay to detect meningococcus, especially in economically depressed areas.

Abstract Background Streptococcus agalactiae (GBS) is the causative pathogen of puerperal sepsis in pregnant women and pneumonia, sepsis and meningitis in infants. Infection of GBS is responsible for the increased morbidity in pregnant women and the elderly, and bring challenges to clinical diagnosis and treatment. However, culture-based approaches to detect S.agalactiae is time-consuming with limited sensitivity. Besides, real-time quantitative PCR demands expensive instruments with tedious steps. Thus, we aim to establish a new detection method for more accurate and rapid detection of S.agalactiae. Results The ddPCR primer targeted the CpsE gene showed better amplified efficiency in the reaction. The limit of detection for GBS DNA with ddPCR was able to reach 5 pg/μL. Moreover, no positive amplified signals could be detected in the reactions which served 11 non-GBS strains DNA as templates. Furthermore, the coefficient of variation of this method was 4.5%, indicating excellent repeatability of ddPCR assay. Conclusions In our study, ddPCR was performed as a rapid detection of S.agalactiae with high sensitivity and specificity. This technique can promote the accuracy of the diagnosis of GBS infection and provide a scientific basis for clinical treatment.

Abstract Background To compare the efficacy of three-point locating versus routine locating techniques for implanting helical blades for proximal femoral nail anti-rotation-II in the treatment of trochanteric fractures. Methods From January 2010 to June 2013, 90 patients with intertrochanteric fractures were surgically treated, including 48 males and 42 females with an average age of 70.5 ± 7.2 years. According to the AO classification, there were 45 cases of A2.1, 35 cases of A2.2, and 10 cases of A2.3. Based on locating techniques, the 90 patients were divided into two groups: the three-point group and the routine group, with 45 patients in each group. All operations were performed by the same group of surgeons using proximal femoral nail anti-rotation (PFNA); the helical blade was inserted into the femoral neck with the three-point locating technique or by the usual method according to treatment group. Several figures including total operation time, elapsed time for implanting the helical blade, intraoperative blood loss, X-ray exposure time, and tip-apex distance (TAD) were measured and compared. An ideal animal model of azoospermia would be a powerful tool for the evaluation of spermatogonial stem cell (SSC) transplantation. Busulfan has been commonly used to develop such a model, but 30%–87% of mice die when administered an intraperitoneal injection of 40 mg kg−1. In the present study, hematoxylin and eosin staining, Western blot, immunofluorescence, and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction were used to test the effects of busulfan exposure in a mouse model that received two intraperitoneal injections of busulfan at a 3-h interval at different doses (20, 30, and 40 mg kg−1) on day 36 or a dose of 40 mg kg−1 at different time points (0, 9, 18, 27, 36, and 63 days). The survival rate of the mice was 100%. When the mice were treated with 40 mg kg−1 busulfan, dramatic SSC depletion occurred 18 days later and all of the germ cells were cleared by day 36. In addition, the gene expressions of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2), chemokine (C-X-C Motif) ligand 12 (CXCL12), and colony-stimulating factor 1 (CSF1) were moderately increased by day 36. A 63-day, long-term observation showed the rare restoration of endogenous germ cells in the testes, suggesting that the potential period for SSC transplantation was between day 36 and day 63. Our results demonstrate that the administration of two intraperitoneal injections of busulfan (40 mg kg−1 in total) at a 3-h interval to mice provided a nonlethal and efficient method for recipient preparation in SSC transplantation and could improve treatments for infertility and the understanding of chemotherapy-induced gonadotoxicity.

An effective risk assessment approach for assessing the risk level of aviation emergency rescue is essential to aviation emergency management. Therefore, this study is aimed at extending a novel integrated multiattribute group decision-making (MAGDM) approach to conduct risk assessment in aviation emergency rescue. First, a combined improved Swiss cheese model and fault tree analysis method are used to build the index system for risk assessment. Next, the weight vector for risk assessment is calculated using the consensus-based improved analytic hierarchy process (IAHP). Then, based on the traditional technique for order preference by similarity to the ideal solution (TOPSIS) method, we improve the definition express of ideal solution and the standardized formula of indexes, thereby providing a consensus-based improved TOPSIS method to compute the evaluation matrix for risk assessment. Finally, the weight vector and evaluation matrix are combined to estimate the risk level of aviation emergency rescue. As aviation emergency rescue in a sudden natural disaster an example, we illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method and demonstrate its effectiveness by comparative analysis with some similar approaches. The proposed approach can evaluate the safety status of aviation emergency rescue operations, which provides a starting point for the improvement of aviation emergency rescue.

Sub-TeV or TeV γ -rays have been convincingly detected in the afterglows of some gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). The relativistic jet associated with GRBs may be surrounded by a cocoon and thus the thermal photons of the cocoon pervading the emission region of the jet can be upscattered to the very-high-energy regime (e.g., sub-TeV/TeV) by the electrons in the jet. In this scenario, the electrons in the jet cool down and thus the jet emission in the low-energy regime, e.g., the X-ray or optical, may be suppressed. In this paper, we study the effect of the cocoon's thermal photons on the jet emission in the low-energy regime. We find that the jet emission in the low-energy regime is significantly suppressed when the emission region of the jet is just encircled by a hot cocoon. Correspondingly, there is a sharp decay in the light curves of the jet emission in the low-energy regime, which can be understood to signify strong TeV emission in GRBs. Since the radius of the cocoon expands with the observer time t _obs , the suppression of the jet emission in the low-energy regime may be relieved and thus the light curves of the jet emission would return to those of emission without a cocoon-external inverse-Compton cooling effect. For a long-lasting jet with power $\propto {(1+{t}_{\mathrm{obs}}/{t}_{c})}^{\alpha }$ , an internal plateau followed by a sharp decay may generally appear.

Long-duration GRB 200829A was detected by Fermi-GBM and Swift-BAT/XRT, and then rapidly observed by other ground-based telescopes. It has a weak γ -ray emission in the very early phase and is followed by a bright spiky γ -ray emission pulse. The radiation spectrum of the very early emission is best fitted by a power-law function with index ∼−1.7. However, the bright spiky γ -ray pulse, especially the time around the peak, exhibits a distinct two-component radiation spectrum, i.e., Band function combined with a blackbody radiation spectrum. We infer the photospheric properties and reveal a medium magnetization at a photospheric position by adopting the initial size of the outflow as r _0 = 10 ^9 cm. It implies that the Band component in this pulse may be formed during the dissipation of the magnetic field. The power-law radiation spectra found in the very early prompt emission may imply the external-shock origination of this phase. Then, we perform the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method fitting on the light curves of this burst, where the jet corresponding to the γ -ray pulse at around 20 s is used to refresh the external shock. It is shown that the light curves of the very early phase and X-ray afterglow after 40 s, involving the X-ray bump at around 100 s, can be well modeled in the external-shock scenario. For the obtained initial outflow, we estimate the minimum magnetization factor of the jet based on the fact that the photospheric emission of this jet is missed in the very early phase.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common arrhythmias in medical practice. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the independent risk factors for atrial fibrillation. The increased morbility of atrial fibrillation in diabetes mellitus is related to both structural and electrical remodeling of atrium. Based on studies of atrial electrophysiological changes in diabetes mellitus, this article focuses on the electrical remodeling of atrial cardiomyocytes, including remodeling of sodium channels, calcium channels, potassium channels and other channels, to provide the basis for the clinical management of antiarrhythmic drugs in diabetic patients with atrial fibrillation.

Electrochemical oxidation (ECO) is an appealing technology for treating emerging organic pollutants in wastewater. However, the conventional flow-by ECO process is expensive with a low energy efficiency owing to the limitations of mass transport of contaminants to the limited surface area of the anode. In this study, a novel freestanding porous and permeable SnO2-Sb anode was fabricated by one-step sintering using micrometer-sized (NH4)2CO3 grains as the pore-forming agents. This permeable SnO2-Sb anode without Ti substrate functioned as a reactive anodic filter (RAF) in an ECO cell to treat wastewater containing ciprofloxacin (CIP). Forcing the wastewater through the porous RAF depth-wise improved the mass transport and vastly enlarged the electroactive surface area. Compared with the conventional flow-by configuration, the flow-through RAF exhibited a 12-fold increase in the mass transfer rate constant (60.7 × 10−6 m s−1) and a 5-fold increase in the CIP degradation rate constant (0.077 min−1). At a cell potential of 4.0 V, more than 92% of the CIP was degraded in a single-pass operation at a filtration flux of 54 L m−2 h−1 and a short retention time of 1.7 min through the RAF. The robustness and stability of the RAF were demonstrated by its remarkable CIP degradation efficacy of 99% during 200 h of operation. The mechanism of CIP degradation was examined using probe molecules and density functional theory calculations and found to be a combined effect of direct electron transfer and oxidation by generated radicals (·OH and SO4·−). The great potential of RAF in flow-through ECO was further validated by its effective removal (>92%) of various organic pollutants in actual municipal wastewater at a low energy consumption of 0.33 kWh m−3. The RAF-based ECO process thus provides an advanced environmental technology for the oxidation of toxic and recalcitrant organic pollutants in wastewater treatment.

Background: National Institute on Aging—Alzheimer's Association (NIA-AA) proposed the AT(N) system based on β-amyloid deposition, pathologic tau, and neurodegeneration, which considered the definition of Alzheimer's disease (AD) as a biological construct. However, the associations between different AT(N) combinations and cognitive progression have been poorly explored systematically. The aim of this study is to compare different AT(N) combinations using recognized biomarkers within the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) cohort.Methods: A total of 341 participants were classified into cognitively unimpaired (CU; n = 200) and cognitively impaired (CI; n = 141) groups according to the clinical manifestations and neuropsychological tests. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) Aβ42 and amyloid-PET ([18F]flutemetamol) were used as biomarkers for A; CSF phosphorylated tau (p-tau) and tau-PET ([18F]flortaucipir) were used as biomarkers for T; CSF total tau (t-tau), hippocampal volume, temporal cortical thickness, [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET, and plasma neurofilament light (NfL) were used as biomarkers for (N). Binary biomarkers were obtained from the Youden index and publicly available cutoffs. Prevalence of AT(N) categories was compared between different biomarkers within the group using related independent sample non-parametric test. The relationship between AT(N) combinations and 12-year longitudinal cognition was assessed using linear mixed-effects modeling.Results: Among the CU participants, A–T–(N)– was most common. More T+ were detected using p-tau than tau PET (p < 0.05), and more (N)+ were observed using fluid biomarkers (p < 0.001). A+T+(N)+ was more common in the CI group. Tau PET combined with cortical thickness best predicted cognitive changes in the CI group and MRI predicted changes in the CU group.Conclusions: These findings suggest that optimal AT(N) combinations to determine longitudinal cognition differ by cognitive status. Different biomarkers within a specific component for defining AT(N) cannot be used identically. Furthermore, different strategies for discontinuous biomarkers will be an important area for future studies.

Objective: To investigate the difference of clinical features and outcomes between EM patients with and without AM after following up for at least 6 years after surgery.Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 358 EM patients who had a minimum of 6 years follow-up after laparoscopic cystectomy, which was performed by one single doctor at Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 2009 to April 2013. All women were divided into AM group and non-AM group and analysis was performed in preoperative characteristics, surgical findings and postoperative outcomes during follow-up.Results: A total of 358 EM patients were recruited, of which 142 (39.7%) were in the AM group and the rest 216 (60.3%) in the non-AM group. Between the two group, the mean age was 34.6 vs. 32.2 years (P < 0.001). The mean operating time in the AM and non-AM group was 73.2 vs. 61.9 min (P < 0.001). According to the revised AFS classification, the mean score of the two group were 60.3 vs. 45.5 (P < 0.001). At the end of the follow-up, though the AM group was with higher rate of disease relapse, yet no significant difference was found between the two groups in statistical comparison (34/142 [23.9%] vs. 34/216 [15.7%], P = 0.053). With a minimum follow-up of 6 years after laparoscopic cystectomy, failed and successful pregnancy were seen in 107/142(75.4%) and 35/142 (24.6%) patients in the AM group vs. 114/216(52.8%) and 102/216 (47.2%) patients in the non-AM group (P < 0.05). As for the successfully pregnant patients, live births, including spontaneous pregnancy and IVF-ET, were seen in 34/35 (97.1) vs. 99/102 (97.1) patients between AM and non-AM groups, while others ended in spontaneous abortion. No significant associations were found between the two groups in infertility, leiomyoma presence, the size of ovarian endometrioma, type of deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) or type of recurrence (P > 0.05).Conclusion: Compared with non-AM group, EM patients with concurrent AM may have higher age, longer mean operating time and higher mean AFS score. In terms of fertility outcomes, patients in the AM group were with lower likelihood of pregnancy after surgery during the long-time follow-up.

AIM: To investigate the behavioral and psychological disorders and the prevalence of parent ratings of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms among children with bilateral congenital cataracts (CCs). METHODS: This cross-sectional study investigated children with bilateral CC aged 3-8y (CC group) using Conners’ Parent Rating Scale-48 (CPRS-48) from July to December 2016. The abnormal rates of psychological symptoms in CC children and normal vision (NV) children were compared using the Chi-square test. The scores of CC children were compared with those of NV children and the Chinese urban norm using the independent samples t-test and one-sample t-test, respectively. RESULTS: A total of 262 valid questionnaires were collected. The ratio of CC children to NV children was 119:143. Abstract Objective To explore the risk factors for the recurrence of endometrioma and the risk factors for the recurrence of endometriosis-related pain after long-term follow-up. Methods This study retrospectively analyzed 358 women with endometriomas who had a minimum of 5-years follow up after laparoscopic endometrioma excision, which was performed at Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 2009 to April 2013. All women were divided into recurrence group and nonrecurrence group. Analysis was performed with regard to preoperative history, laboratory analysis, findings during surgery, and symptoms during follow-up, including improvement and recurrence. Results The cumulative incidence rates of recurrence from 5 to 10 years after surgery were 15.4, 16.8, 19.3, 22.5, 22.5, and 22.5%, respectively. Discharge of partially treated effluent from sewage treatment plants (STPs) is a significant source of chemical contaminants, such as retinoids and oestrogenic endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), which are continuously input into the marine environments of densely populated and urbanized coastal cities. In this study, we successfully developed three analytical methods to detect and qualify retinoic acids (at-RA, 13c-RA & 9c-RA), their metabolites (at-4-oxo-RA, 13c-4-oxo-RA & 9c-4-oxo-RA), and oestrogenic EDCs using high pressure liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). Using these methods, we found that the total concentrations of retinoids in the influents and effluents of three saline STPs in Hong Kong were 7.1–29 ng/L and 3.7–9.1 ng/L, respectively, and those of EDCs were 3107–5829 ng/L and 1225–2638 ng/L, respectively. Retinoids were dominated by at-4-oxo-RA or 13c-4-oxo-RA in wastewater, whereas at-RA and 13c-RA were the most abundant in sludge. Alkylphenols and bisphenol A were the dominant EDCs in wastewater, whilst alkylphenols, triclosan, and triclocarban were dominant in sludge. Overall, the sewage treatment processes in the STPs of Hong Kong were not highly efficient in the removal of retinoids and EDCs from wastewater influents, with removal efficiencies in the aqueous phase of 41–82% and 31–79%, respectively. The removals were attributed mainly to sorption and degradation. Due to such limited removal, the effluents from STPs and the adjacent seawaters (i.e., receiving water bodies) still exhibited relatively high concentrations of retinoids (2.0–4.3 ng/L in seawaters) and EDCs (71–260 ng/L in seawaters), which posed medium ecological risks to the coastal marine ecosystem of Hong Kong (i.e., hazard quotients: 0.1–1). The opportunistic networks and the bike-sharing systems have been attracting much research attention in these years. In this paper, the cycling trips and the buffers of bike stations are utilized to relay the large volume of data. The Markov chain is exploited to formulate and estimate the delivery ratio with the mathematical lattice model. Then, the probability-driven opportunistic forwarding (POF) scheme, which calculates the delivery potentials from the possible delivery paths, is proposed. The relay evaluations, which consider the proper sequence of cycling trips, are made to support the data forwarding decisions. Moreover, the strategies, i.e., the discard notification and the backward elimination, are exploited to drop the redundant replications of data as many as possible. The extensive simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms several benchmark algorithms, e.g., prophet, spray & wait, and JDER, in terms of the delivery ratio, the delivery latency, and the expected hop count.

Pumpkin plants showing symptoms of witches’ broom (PuWB) were observed in Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region, China, in September 2018. A phytoplasma was detected in symptomatic plants by PCR amplifying portions of the 16S ribosomal and tuf genes. In addition, the phylogeny based on these genes sequencing indicated that the PuWB strain clusters with ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma solani’ (subgroup 16SrXII-A). Furthermore, based on in silico and in vitro restriction fragment length polymorphism analyses, the PuWB phytoplasma was confirmed as a ‘Ca. P. solani’-related strain. This was the first record of the occurrence of phytoplasma presence in pumpkins in China, and the first record of 16SrXII phytoplasma infecting pumpkins in the world.

Hunting for natural compounds that can modulate the structure of the intestinal flora is a new hotspot for colitis‐associated cancer (CAC) prevention or treatment. Alisol B 23-acetate (AB23A) is a natural tetracyclic triterpenoid found in Alismatis rhizoma which is well known for dietary herb. Alismatis rhizoma is often used clinically to treat gastrointestinal diseases in China. In this study, we investigated the potential prevention of AB23A in male mouse models of azoxymethane (AOM) and dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced CAC. AB23A intervention alleviated the body weight loss, disease activity index, colon tumor load, tissue injury, and inflammatory cytokine changes in CAC mice. AB23A intervention leads to remarkable reductions in the activation of TLR, NF-κB and MAPK. AB23A significantly decreased the phosphorylation of p38, ERK, and JNK and up-regulated mucin-2 and the expression of tight junction proteins. The gut microbiota of AB23A-interfered mice was characterized with high microbial diversity, the reduced expansion of pathogenic bacteria, such as Klebsiella, Citrobacter, and Akkermansia, and the increased growth of bacteria including Bacteroides, Lactobacillus, and Alloprevotella. These data reveal that AB23A has the potential to be used to treat CAC in the future.

Pharyngeal teratomas are very rare congenital tumours derived from pluripotent stem cells. Surgical resection is the main treatment to avoid breathing and feeding difficulties. This current case report describes two newborn infants with congenital oropharyngeal teratomas. In one of the infants, the tumour presented along with a cleft tongue and cleft palate. Prenatal diagnosis by ultrasonography did not identify the tumours because the masses were small and there was no polyhydramnios. Both cases were treated surgically and histological examination of the masses in both cases confirmed the diagnosis of a congenital epignathus. There were no complications such as infection, bleeding or residual recurrence following surgery. After 1-year follow-up, there was no recurrence of the epignathus in either case. Oropharyngeal teratoma is a very rare congenital tumour that may cause upper airway obstruction and feeding difficulties in the newborn, so it should be treated surgically in a timely manner.

Background: Cesarean section (CS) use has reached a frequency well-above what is expected on the basis of obstetric indications. The large increase in CS use, often for non-medical indications, is of concern given the risks for both women and children. Research about the influence of CS on children's behavior is not new, but most studies didn't differentiate CS due to social factors (such as fear of labor pain, auspicious dates, etc.) from CS with medical indications. Medical indications for CS include fetal distress and intrauterine hypoxia, which may also affect the mental and physical health of the children, thus be a confounding factor. In China, a significant proportion of women undergo CS because of social factors, which provides us a good model to study whether non-fetal triggered delivery will affect children's behavior. Thus, we assessed the impact of CS due to social factors on child psychology and behavior.Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study. Children were divided into three groups according to delivery mode: vaginal delivery (VD), CS with medical indications, and CS due to social factors (also called as elective cesarean section, ECS). Parents or guardians were required to complete four rating scales of Chinese version [Conners' Parent Rating Scale (CPRS), Child Behavior Checklist-Parent Form (CBCL-PF), Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham rating scale-Parent Form (SNAP-IV-PF), and Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function-Parent Form (BRIEF-PF)] on psychological and behavioral problems regarding their children.Results: Among the 38,780 children aged 7–15 years, 29,103 (75.05%) were delivered by VD and 9,677 (24.95%) were delivered by CS (7,844 with medical indications; 1,833 by ECS). Ten covariates were found to significantly affect ECS. Four rating scales were used in this study: CPRS, CBCL-PF, SNAP-IV-PF, and BRIEF-PF. ECS affected child psychology and behavior in several aspects including inattention, hyperactivity/impulsivity, social problems, and executive dysfunction. Regarding to inattention, the ECS group had a higher SNAP-IV-PF inattention score (P = 0.03), compared with the VD group. Logistic multivariate stepwise regression analysis showed that in the ECS group, the ORs were 1.20 in the partially adjusted analyses of SNAP-IV-PF and CPRS. Regarding to social problems, ECS group had a higher CBCL-PF score for the social problems category compared with the VD group (P = 0.0001). Kruskal–Wallis rank sum tests showed that the ECS group had higher BRIEF-PF scores regarding Working Memory (P = 0.04), and Organize (P = 0.01) compared with the VD group.Conclusions: CS affected the offspring's psychology and behavior. After removing possible influence of medical indications, the effect of CS due to social factors on the offspring's psychology and behavior still exists.

Phthalates (PAEs), bisphenol A (BPA), and oestrogenic compounds have become major concerns due to their endocrine-disrupting effect. However, few studies related to the occurrence of PAEs, BPA, and oestrogen in food and compost from different growth age livestock have been conducted. In this study, faeces, urine and food samples were collected from a typical livestock (cow) and a special livestock (pigeon) from concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). The daily total oestrogen excretion of a single cow ranged from 192 μg/day to 671 μg/day, which was significantly higher than that of a single pigeon (0–0.01 μg/day). Conjugated oestrogens represented 22.0–46.0% of the total oestrogens excreted from cow faeces and 80.7–91.8% of those from cow urine, indicating that the form of the excreted oestrogens depends on the livestock species and type of excrement. BPA was all detected in all livestock manure and food, and the concentration in pigeon was 9.2–40.2 ng/g and 23.1 ng/g respectively, while that in cattle was 50.5–72.0 ng/g and 41.1 ng/g respectively. The results indicated that the food is significant sources of BPA entering the process of cow and pigeon breeding. Diethyl phthalate (DEP) was detected at high frequency in pigeon faeces samples, suggesting that pigeons were highly exposed to these plasticisers. The total oestradiol equivalent quantity (EEQt) of livestock origin in aquatic environments was estimated to be 2.99 ng/L, which was higher than the baseline hazard value (1 ng/L) (Xu et al., 2018). The study provides data on the emissions and sources of PAEs, BPA, and oestrogenic compounds from different livestock in CAFOs and demonstrates that food is a significant source of BPA entering livestock.

Abstract Background Long noncoding RNA (LncRNA) XIST is one of the genes that exists in different types of cancers. Earlier researches showed that XIST can advance the progression of colorectal cancer. Nevertheless, the potential molecular mechanism of XIST in combination with miR‐93‐5p has not been explored in colorectal cancer. Methods We performed qRT‐PCR to explore the level of XIST. And a serious experiments in vitro and in vivo were performed to explore the function of XIST. The relationship between XIST/HIF‐1A and miR‐93‐5p was confirmed by RIP and dual‐luciferase assays. Results In the present research, our team demonstrated the upregulation of XIST expression, which was related to tumor progression, and the downregulation of miR‐93‐5p in cells and tissues of colorectal cancer. XIST is the competitive endogenous RNA of miR‐93‐5p to promote HIF‐1A, and then the upregulated AXL level facilitates the EMT process, migration, and proliferation of colorectal cancer. At last, we proved that XIST enhanced the in vivo and in vitro activities of colorectal cancer by regulating AXL signaling. Conclusion In summary, the above results indicate that XIST promotes colorectal cancer tumorigenesis by regulating miR‐93‐5p/HIF‐1A/AXL signaling pathway, which will supply a novel perspective to diagnose and treat colorectal cancer disease.
