2. Sulfidation of nano zero-valent iron for enhanced hexavalent chromium removal performance

Nano zero-valent iron (nZVI) and sulfidation-modified nZVI (S-nZVI) were synthesized and used to remove hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) in wastewater. Characterization of the products showed that the sulfidation process significantly changed the morphology of nZVI, with enhanced crystallinity. The effects of S/Fe ratio, pH value, and reaction temperature on Cr(VI) removal were studied. A S/Fe ratio of 0.5 was the most appropriate parameter, with a removal efficiency of 98% in the condition of pH = 2. The effects of anions (Cl−, NO3−, CO32−, and SO42−) and cations (Ca2+ and Mg2+) on the Cr(VI) removal efficiency were investigated, and the relevant mechanisms were discussed. The Cr(VI) removal efficiency of S-nZVI was significantly greater than that of nZVI, mainly owing to the existence of FeS layers that could protect Fe0 cores and prompt electron transfer. The aging and cycling experiments showed that S-nZVI could maintain its reactivity when facing the corrosion of water, and showed cycling stability. Thus, S-nZVI is an effective and feasible agent for the remediation of Cr(VI)-contained wastewater.

3. A MYB-related transcription factor ZmMYBR29 is involved in grain filling

Abstract Background The endosperm serves as the primary source of nutrients for maize (Zea mays L.) kernel embryo development and germination. Positioned at the base of the endosperm, the transfer cells (TCs) of the basal endosperm transfer layer (BETL) generate cell wall ingrowths, which enhance the connectivity between the maternal plant and the developing kernels. These TCs play a crucial role in nutrient transport and defense against pathogens. The molecular mechanism underlying BETL development in maize remains unraveled. Results This study demonstrated that the MYB-related transcription factor ZmMYBR29, exhibited specific expression in the basal cellularized endosperm, as evidenced by in situ hybridization analysis. Utilizing the CRISPR/Cas9 system, we successfully generated a loss-of-function homozygous zmmybr29 mutant, which presented with smaller kernel size. Observation of histological sections revealed abnormal development and disrupted morphology of the cell wall ingrowths in the BETL. The average grain filling rate decreased significantly by 26.7% in zmmybr29 mutant in comparison to the wild type, which impacted the dry matter accumulation within the kernels and ultimately led to a decrease in grain weight. Analysis of RNA-seq data revealed downregulated expression of genes associated with starch synthesis and carbohydrate metabolism in the mutant. Furthermore, transcriptomic profiling identified 23 genes that expressed specifically in BETL, and the majority of these genes exhibited altered expression patterns in zmmybr29 mutant. Conclusions In summary, ZmMYBR29 encodes a MYB-related transcription factor that is expressed specifically in BETL, resulting in the downregulation of genes associated with kernel development. Furthermore, ZmMYBR29 influences kernels weight by affecting the grain filling rate, providing a new perspective for the complementation of the molecular regulatory network in maize endosperm development.

IntroductionAngong Niuhuang Wan (AGNHW), developed during the Qing dynasty (18th century) for the treatment of consciousness disturbances caused by severe infections, has been used to treat brain edema caused by ischemia‒reperfusion. However, it remains unclear whether AGNHW can ameliorate vascular-origin brain edema caused by lipopolysaccharides (LPS). This study explored the ameliorative effects of AGNHW on LPS-induced cerebrovascular edema in mice, as well as the potential underlying mechanisms.MethodsA cerebrovascular edema model was established in male C57BL/6N mice by two intraperitoneal injections of LPS (15 mg/kg), at 0 and 24 h. AGNHW was administered by gavage at doses of 0.2275 g/kg, 0.455 g/kg, and 0.91 g/kg, 2 h after LPS administration. In control mice, normal saline (NS) or AGNHW (0.455 g/kg) was administered by gavage 2 h after intraperitoneal injection of NS. The survival rate, cerebral water content, cerebral venous FITC-dextran leakage, Evans blue extravasation, and expression of vascular endothelial cadherin (VE-cadherin), zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1), claudin-5, phosphorylated caveolin-1 (CAV-1), and cytomembrane and cytoplasmic aquaporin 1 (AQP1) and aquaporin 4 (AQP4) were evaluated. The cerebral tissue phosphoproteome, blood levels of AGNHW metabolites, and the relationships between these blood metabolites and differentially phosphorylated proteins were analyzed.ResultsAGNHW inhibited the LPS-induced decrease in survival rate, increase in cerebral water content, decrease in VE-Cadherin expression and increase in phosphorylated CAV-1 (P-CAV-1). AGNHW treatment increased the expression of AQP4 on astrocyte membrane after LPS injection. AGNHW also inhibited the LPS-induced increases in the phosphorylation of 21 proteins, including protein kinase C-α (PKC-α) and mitogen-activated protein kinase 1 (MAPK1), in the cerebral tissue. Eleven AGNHW metabolites were detected in the blood. These metabolites might exert therapeutic effects by regulating PKC-α and MAPK1.ConclusionAGNHW can ameliorate cerebrovascular edema caused by LPS. This effect is associated with the inhibition of VE-Cadherin reduction and CAV-1 phosphorylation, as well as the upregulation of AQP4 expression on the astrocyte membrane, following LPS injection.

Abstract Introduction As a very rare form of B-cell lymphoma, plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) typically occurs in patients with underlying immunosuppression, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), organ transplantation, and autoimmune diseases. For HIV-positive patients, PBL normally originates in the gastrointestinal tract, especially from the oral cavity in most cases. It is extremely rare to find abdominal cavity involvement in PBL, and there has been no previously reported instance of proliferative glomerulonephritis with monoclonal immunoglobulin deposits (PGNMID) attributed to monoclonal IgG (MIgG) lambda secreted by PBL. Case presentation We report the case of an HIV-negative female with nephrotic syndrome, renal insufficiency, and multiple swollen lymph nodes. Ascitic fluid cytology revealed a high level of plasmablast-like lymphocytes with the restriction of lambda light chains. Besides, the renal biopsy revealed PGNMID, which could presumably be secondary to MIgG-lambda-secreting by PBL. MIgG-lambda-restricted expression was discovered earlier in the kidney tissue than in the blood. Conclusion The diagnostic landscape for PBL is notoriously intricate, necessitating a multifaceted and nuanced approach to mitigate the risks of erroneous identification.

6. Clinicopathological characteristics and its association with digestive system tumors of 1111 patients with Schistosomiasis japonica

Abstract Schistosomiasis japonicum can cause different degrees of organ damage and complex human immune pathological reactions, which often invade the intestine and liver. The purpose of this study was to explore the pathological types and pathological changes of Schistosomiasis and their correlation with some digestive system tumors. Hematoxylin eosin staining was performed on the diseased tissues of 1111 Schistosomiasis cases. We counted the deposition sites of Schistosoma eggs, analyzed the pathological characteristics, and compared the clinicopathological characteristics of Schistosomiasis associated digestive system tumors and non-Schistosomiasis digestive system tumors. We found that Schistosoma japonicum can cause multi organ and multi system damage, with 469 cases of inflammation, 47 cases of adenoma, and 519 cases of adenocarcinoma. Other types include cysts, stromal tumors, malignant lymphomas, and neuroendocrine tumors. Schistosomiasis associated tumors, including gastric cancer, liver cancer, colon cancer and rectal cancer, were compared with non-Schistosomiasis tumors. There were significant differences in age, gender and tumor differentiation between the two groups. Our study shows Schistosomiasis is a systemic disease, causing multiple organ and system damage in the human body. Its clinicopathological types are diverse, and there may be a pathological change process of “Inflammation-adenoma-carcinoma”. Schistosomiasis associated digestive system tumors differ from non-Schistosomiasis tumors in some clinicopathological features.

Ganoderma lucidum spore powder, valued for its nutritional and medicinal properties, contains polysaccharides crucial for its efficacy. However, the complex structural nature of these polysaccharides necessitates further investigation to fully realize their potential. This study aimed to investigate the effects of acid heat treatment on Ganoderma lucidum spore polysaccharides (GLSPs) to enhance their properties and application in antitumor activity. The GLSP was obtained via acid heat treatment, concentration, and centrifugal separation. This process led to a notable reduction in polysaccharide molecular weight, increasing water solubility and bioavailability. Analytical techniques including NMR spectroscopy and methylation analysis revealed a polysaccharide composition comprising four distinct monosaccharides, with molecular weights of 3291 Da (Mw) and 3216 Da (Mn). Six different linkage modes were identified, with a molar ratio of 1:5:2:3:4:3. In vivo experiments demonstrated the GLSP’s significant inhibitory effect on the growth of four tumor models (sarcoma S180, Lewis lung cancer, liver cancer H22, and colon cancer C26) in mice, with no observed toxicity. These findings suggest the GLSP’s potential as an antitumor therapeutic agent for clinical use.

8. Case report: Remarkable response to a novel combination of mitotane, etoposide, paraplatin, and sintilimab in a patient with metastatic adrenocortical carcinoma

BackgroundAdrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignancy with a poor prognosis and limited treatment options for metastases. However, new effective regimens are emerging for specific conditions in metastatic ACC.Case presentationWe report a case of a 36-year-old man diagnosed with metastatic ACC who had a large left adrenal mass (158 mm × 112 mm) and multiple metastases in the liver and lungs. Genetic testing revealed a microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) tumor, a splice mutation in MLH1, and a high tumor mutational burden (TMB). After the left adrenalectomy, he received sequential treatment with a combination of mitotane, etoposide, paraplatin (EP-M), and sintilimab. His condition has been assessed as a stable disease since the sixth cycle of the combined regimen.ConclusionThis case highlights the remarkable response of our patient’s ACC with MSI-H tumor, MLH1 spice mutation, and high TMB to treatment with a novel combination of EP-M and sintilimab. Our findings suggest a promising therapeutic option for patients with similar molecular profiles.

Abstract Background Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a chronic musculoskeletal disease that can cause joint pain and dysfunction, affecting the quality of life of patients. Nonsurgical treatment is the conventional treatment of KOA, among which physical therapy is widely used because of its simplicity, convenience and effectiveness. The functional biomarker will add to the clinical fidelity and diagnostic accuracy. Therefore, our study chose a more objective evaluation indicator, functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), to identify between healthy people and KOA patients, and to detect the pain change before and after treatment of KOA patients. Methods The study will be conducted in the Rehabilitation Medical Center of West China Hospital of Sichuan University and divided into 2 stages. In the first stage, we will compare and determine the differences in baseline data between healthy volunteers and KOA patients. In the second stage, 72 KOA patients will be randomly divided into two groups: the drug therapy group (DT) and the combination therapy group (CT) for 10 treatments. Outcome measures will be measured at baseline and on the 5th and 10th days after the intervention, including the numerical rating scale (NRS), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), pain catastrophizing scale (PCS), the association of pain severity with task-state functional connectivity fNIRS and association of pain severity with task-activated fNIRS. Discussion By analyzing the fNIRS data of healthy volunteers and KOA patients, our study will be determined whether fNIRS can be used as a new indicator to reflect the severity of pain in KOA patients. Subsequently, the same fNIRS data for KOA patients before and after the intervention will be collected to provide an accurate evaluation criterion for the effect of physical therapy on KOA. Background & Aims: Approximately one-third of colorectal cancers develop from serrated lesions (SLs), including hyperplastic polyp (HP), sessile serrated lesion (SSL), traditional serrated adenoma (TSA), and SSL with dysplasia (SSLD) through the serrated neoplasia pathway, which progresses faster than the conventional adenoma-carcinoma pathway. We sought to depict the currently unclarified molecular and immune alterations by the single-cell landscape in SLs. Methods: We performed single-cell RNA sequencing of 16 SLs (including 4 proximal HPs, 5 SSLs, 2 SSLDs, and 5 TSAs) vs 3 normal colonic tissues. Results: A total of 60,568 high-quality cells were obtained. Two distinct epithelial clusters with redox imbalance in SLs were observed, along with upregulation of tumor-promoting SerpinB6 that regulated ROS level. Epithelial clusters of SSL and TSA showed distinct molecular features: SSL-specific epithelium manifested overexpressed proliferative markers with Notch pathway activation, whereas TSA-specific epithelium showed Paneth cell metaplasia with aberrant lysozyme expression. As for immune contexture, enhanced cytotoxic activity of CD8+ T cells was observed in SLs; it was mainly attributable to increased proportion of CD103+CD8+ tissue-resident memory T cells, which might be regulated by retinoic acid metabolism. Microenvironment of SLs was generally immune-activated, whereas some immunosuppressive cells (regulatory T cells, anti-inflammatory macrophages, MDK+IgA+ plasma cells, MMP11-secreting PDGFRA+ fibroblasts) also emerged at early stage and further accumulated in SSLD. Conclusion: Epithelial, immune, and stromal components in the serrated pathway undergo fundamental alterations. Future molecular subtypes of SLs and potential immune therapy might be developed.

11. Influence of early colorectal cancer component on the positive margins after endoscopic resection: a retrospective study

Abstract Background Endoscopic treatment methods for early colorectal cancer (ECRC) mainly depend on the size and morphology. It is unclear whether different endoscopic resection methods could achieve curative resection for ECRC confined in the mucosa. The study was designed to compare the rate of positive vertical margin (VM) of ECRC with advanced adenomas (AAs) including adenoma > 1 cm, villous adenoma, high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia/dysplasia stratified by different endoscopic resection methods. Methods Rate of positive VM for 489 ECRCs including Intramucosal (pTis) and superficial submucosal invasion (pT1) carcinomas were compared with those of 753 AAs stratified by different endoscopic resection methods using Chi-squared test. Multivariate logistic model was performed to investigate the risk factors of positive VM for different endoscopic resection methods. Results The pTis ECRC exhibited a similar rate of positive VM as that of AAs for en bloc hot snare polypectomy (HSP, 0% Vs. 0.85%, P = 0.617), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR, 0.81% vs. 0.25%, P = 0.375) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD, 1.82% Vs. 1.02%, P = 0.659). The pTis carcinoma was not found to be a risk factor for positive VM by en bloc EMR (P = 0.349) or ESD (P = 0.368). The en bloc resection achieved for pT1a carcinomas exhibited similar to positive VM achieved through ESD (2.06% Vs. 1.02%, P = 1.000) for AAs. 12. The rupture risk factors of mirror intracranial aneurysms: A systematic review and meta-analysis based on morphological and hemodynamic parameters.

ObjectiveIntracranial aneurysms (IAs) are a prevalent form of vascular disease that can lead to fatal outcomes upon rupture. Mirror intracranial aneurysms (MIAs) are a specific type of multiple aneurysms situated symmetrically on both sides of the parent arteries. The factors contributing to the risk of MIA rupture, based on morphological and hemodynamic parameters, are currently controversial. Thus, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the risk factors for MIA rupture.MethodsThe study performed an electronic search of Chinese and English databases, including China national Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanFang, VIP, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library databases, and adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The morphological parameters (IA size, aspect ratio [AR], size ratio [SR], bottleneck factor [BNF], height-width ratio [HWR], irregular shape) and hemodynamic parameters (wall shear stress [WSS], low WSS area [LSA], oscillatory shear index [OSI]) were analyzed for their significance in determining the risk of MIA rupture.ResultsThe analysis comprised 18 retrospective studies involving 647 patients, with a total of 1294 IAs detected, including 605 ruptured and 689 unruptured. The meta-analysis revealed that IA size, AR, SR, and irregular shape exhibited significant differences between the ruptured and unruptured groups, but HWR did not. In terms of hemodynamic parameters, WSS, OSI, and LSA were found to have significant differences between the two groups.ConclusionsOur results demonstrate that larger IAs, higher AR, SR, and BNF are associated with a higher risk of rupture in patients with MIAs, regardless of their location. there is no significant difference in HWR between the ruptured and unruptured groups. These preliminary findings offer valuable insights for clinical decision-making and a more comprehensive comprehension of the current MIA status. Purpose. To evaluate head and cervical posture in individuals with or without temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) and to assess the correlations between pain, severity of symptoms, and posture. Methods. A total of 384 patients (129 males and 255 females) was included. The Fonseca Anamnestic Index (FAI) was used to assess the severity and prevalence of TMD and the presence of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain. Patients were divided into three groups: the TMD-free group, TMD without TMJ pain group, and TMD with TMJ pain group. Subsequently, the patients with TMJ pain were further divided into mild TMD and moderate/severe TMD groups. Nine parameters were traced on cephalograms to characterize the head and cervical posture. Results. TMD patients with TMJ pain showed increased forward head posture (FHP) than patients without TMJ pain and TMD-free subjects. No significant difference was observed between the TMD patients without TMJ pain and TMD-free subjects. In the TMD patients with the TMJ pain group, the moderate/severe TMD patients demonstrated increased FHP compared to mild TMD patients. Early brain injury is a series of pathophysiological changes and direct damage of brain tissue within 72 h after subarachnoid hemorrhage before cerebral vasospasm occurs. Microglia are important immune cells of the central nervous system. Microglia play a dual role in protection and injury. Microglia are involved in the occurrence of brain edema, the processes of neuronal apoptosis, and the blood–brain barrier disruption after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) through the signaling pathways mediated by receptors such as Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR), and triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (TREM-1), which secrete pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukins and tumor necrosis factor α. Conversely, they exert their anti-inflammatory and protective effects by expressing substances such as neuroglobin and heme oxygenase-1. This article reviews the latest developments in single-cell transcriptomics for microglia in early brain injury after subarachnoid hemorrhage and its inflammatory role.

Introduction Pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) is an available treatment for knee osteoarthritis (KOA), which is the most common cause of pain and disability. Nonetheless, whether the clinical effects are like that of most used drugs is unclear. Thus, this study aims to determine the effect of PEMF on pain relief by comparing them with the positive drug (celecoxib). Furthermore, this clinical trial aims to evaluate the effect of PEMF on function and quality of life with a long-term follow-up.Methods and analysis This two-armed, non-inferiority, randomised, controlled trial will be conducted in the outpatient physiatry/physiotherapy clinic or inpatient ward of 17 hospitals in China. A total of 428 individuals will be included who are more than 40 years of age with diagnosed KOA. The participants will be randomly allocated to the PEMF group: receiving a 6-week PEMF (15 Hz, 30 mT) at a frequency of 40 min per day, 5 days per week plus sham drug (n=214), or drug group: receiving a 6-week celecoxib 200 mg combined with sham PEMF (n=214). Clinical outcomes will be measured at baseline (T0), mid-term of intervention (T1), post-intervention (T2), 10, 18 and 30 weeks (T3–5) of follow-up after randomisation. The primary outcome will be the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities (WOMAC) pain index. The secondary outcomes will be WOMAC function and stiffness, pain measured by numerical rating score, quality of life, 6-minute walk test, pain catastrophising scale and responder index.Ethics and dissemination The trial is performed following the Declaration of Helsinki. The study protocol and consent form have been approved by the Ethics Committee on Biomedical Research of West China Hospital of Sichuan University (#2021-220). All patients will give informed consent before participation and the trial is initiated after approval. Results of this trial will be disseminated through publication in peer-reviewed journals.Trial registration number ChiCTR2100052131.

Background: Yu-ping-feng powder (YPF) is a compound traditional Chinese medicine extensively used in China for respiratory diseases. However, the role of YPF in alveolar-capillary barrier dysfunction remains unknown. This study aimed to explore the effect and potential mechanism of YPF on alveolar-capillary barrier injury induced by exhausted exercise.Methods: Male Sprague–Dawley rats were used to establish an exhausted-exercise model by using a motorized rodent treadmill. YPF at doses of 2.18 g/kg was administrated by gavage before exercise training for 10 consecutive days. Food intake-weight/body weight, blood gas analysis, lung water percent content, BALF protein concentration, morphological observation, quantitative proteomics, real-time PCR, and Western blot were performed. A rat pulmonary microvascular endothelial cell line (PMVEC) subjected to hypoxia was applied for assessing the related mechanism.Results: YPF attenuated the decrease of food intake weight/body weight, improved lung swelling and hemorrhage, alleviated the increase of lung water percent content and BALF protein concentration, and inhibited the impairment of lung morphology. In addition, YPF increased the expression of claudin 3, claudin 18, occludin, VE-cadherin, and β-catenin, attenuated the epithelial and endothelial hyperpermeability in vivo and/or in vitro, and the stress fiber formation in PMVECs after hypoxia. Quantitative proteomics discovered that the effect of YPF implicated the Siah2-ubiquitin-proteasomal pathway, Gng12-PAK1-MLCK, and RhoA/ROCK, which was further confirmed by Western blot. Both were reared from Coraebus cavifrons Descarpentries & Villiers (Coleoptera, Buprestidae) boring in Symplocos stellaris Brand (Symplocaceae). Metapelma beijingense is a solitary parasitoid with a parasitism rate of about 13.5% and S. ochus is a gregarious parasitoid with a parasitism rate of about 21.2%. A revised key to Oriental and Palaearctic species of Metapelma Westwood and a key to the species of the Spathius labdacus-group are provided.

18. Potential Novel Serum Metabolic Markers Associated With Progression of Prediabetes to Overt Diabetes in a Chinese Population

BackgroundIdentifying the metabolite profile of individuals with prediabetes who turned to type 2 diabetes (T2D) may give novel insights into early T2D interception. The purpose of this study was to identify metabolic markers that predict the development of T2D from prediabetes in a Chinese population.MethodsWe used an untargeted metabolomics approach to investigate the associations between serum metabolites and risk of prediabetes who turned to overt T2D (n=153, mean follow up 5 years) in a Chinese population (REACTION study). Results were compared with matched controls who had prediabetes at baseline [age: 56 ± 7 years old, body mass index (BMI): 24.2 ± 2.8 kg/m2] and at a 5-year follow-up [age: 61 ± 7 years old, BMI: 24.5 ± 3.1 kg/m2]. Confounding factors were adjusted and the associations between metabolites and diabetes risk were evaluated with multivariate logistic regression analysis. A 10-fold cross-validation random forest classification (RFC) model was used to select the optimal metabolites panels for predicting the development of diabetes, and to internally validate the discriminatory capability of the selected metabolites beyond conventional clinical risk factors.FindingsMetabolic alterations, including those associated with amino acid and lipid metabolism, were associated with an increased risk of prediabetes progressing to diabetes. The most important metabolites were inosine [odds ratio (OR) = 19.00; 95% confidence interval (CI): 4.23-85.37] and carvacrol (OR = 17.63; 95% CI: 4.98-62.34). Thirteen metabolites were found to improve T2D risk prediction beyond eight conventional T2D risk factors [area under the curve (AUC) was 0.98 for risk factors + metabolites vs 0.72 for risk factors, P < 0.05].InterpretationsUse of the metabolites identified in this study may help determine patients with prediabetes who are at highest risk of progressing to diabetes.

Background: Thrombolysis with tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) remains the only approved drug therapy for acute ischemic stroke. However, delayed tPA treatment is associated with an increased risk of brain hemorrhage. In this study, we assessed whether QiShenYiQi (QSYQ), a compound Chinese medicine, can attenuate tPA-induced brain edema and hemorrhage in an experimental stroke model.Methods: Male mice were subjected to ferric chloride-induced carotid artery thrombosis followed by mechanical detachment of thrombi. Then mice were treated with QSYQ at 2.5 h followed by administration of tPA (10 mg/kg) at 4.5 h. Hemorrhage, infarct size, neurological score, cerebral blood flow, Evans blue extravasation, FITC-labeled albumin leakage, tight and adherens junction proteins expression, basement membrane proteins expression, matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) expression, leukocyte adhesion, and leukocyte infiltration were assessed 24 h after tPA administration.Results: Compared with tPA alone treatments, the combination therapy of QSYQ and tPA significantly reduced hemorrhage, infarction, brain edema, Evans blue extravasation, albumin leakage, leukocyte adhesion, MMP-9 expression, and leukocyte infiltration at 28.5 h after stroke. The combination also significantly improved the survival rate, cerebral blood flow, tight and adherens junction proteins (occludin, claudin-5, junctional adhesion molecule-1, zonula occludens-1, VE-cadherin, α-catenin, β-catenin) expression, and basement membrane proteins (collagen IV, laminin) expression. Addition of QSYQ protected the downregulated ATP 5D and upregulated p-Src and Caveolin-1 after tPA treatment.Conclusion: Our results show that QSYQ inhibits tPA-induced brain edema and hemorrhage by protecting the blood-brain barrier integrity, which was partly attributable to restoration of energy metabolism, protection of inflammation and Src/Caveolin signaling activation. The present study supports QSYQ as an effective adjunctive therapy to increase the safety of delayed tPA thrombolysis for ischemic stroke.

Ergothioneine, a sulfur-containing micromolecular histidine derivative, has attracted increasing attention from scholars since it was confirmed in the human body. In the human body, ergothioneine is transported and accumulated specifically through OCTN-1, especially in the mitochondria and nucleus, suggesting that it can target damaged cells and tissues as an antioxidant. It shows excellent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory effects, and anti-aging properties, and inhibits melanin production. It is a mega antioxidant that may participate in the antioxidant network system and promote the reducing glutathione regeneration cycle. This review summarizes studies on the antioxidant effects of ergothioneine on various free radicals in vitro to date and systematically introduces its biological activities and potential mechanisms, mostly in dermatology. Additionally, the application of ergothioneine in cosmetics is briefly summarized. Lastly, we propose some problems that require solutions to understand the mechanism of action of ergothioneine. We believe that ergothioneine has good prospects in the food and cosmetics industries, and can thus meet some needs of the health and beauty industry.

Braconid parasitoids reared from Malus sieversii and Malus domestica trees in NW China infested by Agrilus mali Matsumura (Coleoptera, Buprestidae) are illustrated and discussed. Six species were found parasitising Agrilus mali in NW China, namely, Atanycolus ivanowi (Kokujev) (Braconinae), Doryctes undulatus (Ratzeburg), Pareucorystes varinervis Tobias, Polystenus rugosus Foerster, Spathius sinicus Chao, and Spathius brevicaudis Ratzeburg (Doryctinae). All listed species are newly recorded parasitoids of Agrilus mali. Pareucorystes varinervis and Spathius brevicaudis are new records for the Chinese fauna, but Spathius brevicaudis has been recorded from Taiwan before. Both sexes of Spathius brevicaudis are redescribed here to allow inclusion in the recent revision of the Chinese Spathius species. An identification key to the six braconid parasitoids of Agrilus mali in NW China is provided.

23. Probability Fusion Decision Framework of Multiple Deep Neural Networks for Fine-Grained Visual Classification

Fine-grained visual classification tasks often suffer from that the subordinate categories within a basic-level category have low inter-class discrepancy and high intra-class variances, which is still challenging research for traditional deep neural networks (DNNs). However, different models extract local parts' features in isolation and neglect the inherent correlations and distribution in high-dimensional space, which limit the single model to achieve better accuracy. In this paper, we propose a novel probability fusion decision framework (named as PFDM-Net) for fine-grained visual classification. More specifically, it first employs data-augmented tricks to enlarge the dataset and pretrain the basic VGG19 and ResNet networks on high-quality images datasets to learn common and domain knowledge simultaneously while fine-tuning with professional skill. Next, refined multiple DNNs with transfer learning are applied to design a multi-stream feature extractor, which utilizes the mixture-granularity information to exploit high-dimensionality features for distinguishing interclass discrepancy and tolerating intra-class variances. Finally, a probability fusion module equipped with gating network and probability fusion layer is developed to fuse different components model with Gaussian distribution as a unified probability representation for the ultimate fine-grained recognition. The input of this module is the various features of multi-models and the output is the fused classification probability. The end-to-end implementation of our framework contain an inner loop about the EM algorithm within an outer loop with the gradient back-propagation optimization of the whole network. Experimental results demonstrate the outperforming performance of PFDM-Net with higher classification accuracy on different fine-grained datasets compared with the state-of-the-arts methods. More discussions are provided to indicate the potential applications in combination with other work.

Abstract Background Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are functionally associated with cancer development and progression. Although gene copy number variation (CNV) is common in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), it is not known how CNV in lncRNAs affects HCC progression and recurrence. We aimed to identify a CNV‐related lncRNA involved in HCC progression and recurrence and illustrate its underlying mechanisms and prognostic value. Methods We analyzed the whole genome sequencing (WGS) data of matched cancerous and noncancerous liver samples from 49 patients with HCC to identify lncRNAs with CNV. The results were validated in another cohort of 238 paired HCC and nontumor samples by TaqMan copy number assay. We preformed Kaplan‐Meier analysis and log‐rank test to identify lncRNA CNV with prognostic value. We conducted loss‐ and gain‐of‐function studies to explore the biological functions of LINC01133 in vitro and in vivo. The competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) mechanism was clarified by microRNA sequencing (miR‐seq), quantitative real‐time PCR (qRT‐PCR), western blot, and dual‐luciferase reporter assays. We confirmed the binding mechanism between lncRNA and protein by RNA pull‐down, RNA immunoprecipitation, qRT‐PCR, and western blot analyses. Results Genomic copy numbers of LINC01133 were increased in HCC, which were positively related with the elevated expression of LINC01133. Increased copy number of LINC01133 predicted the poor prognosis in HCC patients. LINC01133 overexpression in HCC cells promoted proliferation and aggressive phenotypes in vitro, and facilitated tumor growth and lung metastasis in vivo, whereas LINC01133 knockdown had the opposite effects. LINC01133 sponged miR‐199a‐5p, resulting in enhanced expression of SNAI1, which induced epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in HCC cells. In addition, LINC01133 interacted with Annexin A2 (ANXA2) to activate the ANXA2/STAT3 signaling pathway. Conclusions LINC01133 promotes HCC progression by sponging miR‐199a‐5p and interacting with ANXA2. LINC01133 CNV gain is predictive of poor prognosis in patients with HCC.

AimTo investigate the effects of Bushen Huatan Granules (BHG) and Kunling Wan (KW), the two Chinese medicines, on the regulation of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and their underlying mechanisms.Materials and MethodsPCOS rat model was established by subcutaneous injection of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) (6 mg/100 g/day) for 20 days, followed by treatment with BHG (0.75, 1.49, and 2.99 g/kg) or KW (0.46, 0.91, and 1.82 g/kg) by gavage for 4 weeks. Estrous cycle was detected by vaginal smears. Follicles development was assessed by histology. Levels of testosterone and insulin in serum were tested by ELISA. Apoptosis of Granulosa cells (GCs) was evaluated by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end-labeling staining. Pathways associated with apoptosis were detected with western blot. Pregnancy outcome was also assessed. GCs were pre-treated with 10–5 M testosterone in vitro for 24 h, then incubated with serum from rats receiving BHG (1.49 g/kg) or KW (1.82 g/kg). The parameters concerning apoptosis, mitochondrial function and endoplasmic reticulum stress were assessed.ResultsPost-treatment with either BHG or KW ameliorated DHEA-induced irregular estrous cycles, follicles development abnormalities, increase of testosterone and insulin in serum, and the apoptosis of GCs. Post-treatment with BHG decreased the expression of cleaved caspase-9/caspase 9, release of cytochrome C from mitochondria, and mitochondria reactive oxygen species production, increased activities of complex I, II, IV of ovarian tissue. Post-treatment with KW decreased the levels of caspase-12, GRP78, C/EBP homologous protein, phosphorylation of IRE-I, x-box-binding protein 1s, as well as phosphorylation of proline-rich receptor-like protein kinase, phosphorylation of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2α and ATF4 of ovarian tissue and GCs. Both BHG and KW ameliorated pregnancy outcome.ConclusionThis study demonstrated BHG or KW as a potential strategy for treatment of PCOS induced by DHEA, and suggested that the beneficial role of the two medicines were mediated by different pathway with the effect of BHG being correlated with the regulation of mitochondria, while the effect of KW being attributable to protection of endoplasmic reticulum stress.

26. Antithrombotic Agents for tPA‐Induced Cerebral Hemorrhage: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis of Preclinical Studies

Background tPA (tissue‐type plasminogen activator) remains the only approved drug for acute ischemic stroke, with a potentially serious adverse effect: hemorrhagic transformation. The effects of antithrombotic agents on tPA‐induced hemorrhagic transformation after ischemic stroke are not clearly defined. We performed a systematic review and meta‐analysis in preclinical studies aiming to evaluate the efficacy of antithrombotic agents on tPA‐induced hemorrhagic transformation after ischemic stroke. Methods and Results We conducted a systematic review and meta‐analysis of studies testing antithrombotic agents in animal models of tPA‐induced hemorrhagic transformation. The pooled effects were calculated using random‐effects models, and heterogeneity was explored through meta‐regression and subgroup analyses. Publication bias was assessed using trim and fill method and the Egger test. The efficacy of 18 distinct interventions was described in 22 publications. The pooled data showed a significant improvement in cerebral hemorrhage, infarct size, and neurobehavioral outcome in treated compared with control animals (standardized mean difference, 0.45 [95% CI, 0.11–0.78]; standardized mean difference, 1.18 [95% CI, 0.73–1.64]; and standardized mean difference, 0.91 [95% CI, 0.49–1.32], respectively). Subgroup analysis indicated that quality score, random allocation, control of temperature, anesthetic used, stroke model used, route of drug delivery, time of drug administration, and time of assessment were significant factors that influenced the effects of interventions. Conclusions Administration with antiplatelet agents revealed statistically significant improvement in all the outcomes. Anticoagulant agents showed significant effects in infarct size and neurobehavioral score, but fibrinolytic agents did not show any significant improvement in all the outcomes. The conclusions should be interpreted cautiously given the heterogeneity and publication bias identified in this analysis.

The present study evaluated the effect of fermentation with Lactiplantibacillus plantarum B7 and Bacillus subtilis natto on phenolic compound levels and enzyme activity, as well as antioxidant capacity of the rose residue. Results showed that the polyphenol content of rose residue was significantly increased from 16.37 ± 1.51 mg/100 mL to 41.02 ± 1.68 mg/100 mL by fermentation at 37 °C and 2.0% (v/v) inoculum size for 40 h. The flavone, soluble dietary, and protein contents were also enhanced by almost 1-fold, 3-fold, and 1-fold, respectively. Fifteen phenolic compounds were quantified in the fermented broth, among which the concentration of gallic acid, quercetin, and p-coumaric acid increased by 5-fold, 4-fold, and almost 8-fold, respectively. Cronobacter sakazakii is foodborne pathogen that causes serious illnesses such as necrotizing enterocolitis, meningitis and septicemia in infants. However, the virulence determinants and mechanisms of pathogenicity of these species remain unclear. In this study, multilocus sequence typing (MLST) was performed on 34 C. sakazakii strains and two strains with the same sequence type (ST) but distinct adhesion/invasion capabilities were selected for identification of differentially expressed proteins using data-independent acquisition (DIA) proteomic analysis. A total of 2,203 proteins were identified and quantified. Among these proteins, 210 exhibited differential expression patterns with abundance ratios ≥3 or ≤0.33 and P values ≤0.05. Among these 210 proteins, 67 were expressed higher, and 143 were expressed lower in C. sakazakii SAKA80220 (strongly adhesive/invasive strain) compared with C. sakazakii SAKA80221 (weakly adhesive/invasive strain). Based on a detailed analysis of the differentially expressed proteins, the highly expressed genes involved in flagellar assembly, lipopolysaccharide synthesis, LuxS/AI-2, energy metabolic pathways and iron-sulfur cluster may be associated with the adhesion/invasion capability of C. sakazakii. To verify the accuracy of the proteomic results, real-time qPCR was used to analyze the expression patterns of some genes at the transcriptional level, and consistent results were observed. This study, for the first time, used DIA proteomic to investigate potential adhesion/invasion related factors as a useful reference for further studies on the pathogenic mechanism of C. sakazakii.

The expert is a vital role in multicriteria decision-making, which provides source decision opinions. In the existing group decision-making activities, the selection of experts is usually conducted artificially, which relies on personal subjective experience. It has been the urgent demand for an automatic selection of experts, which can help to determine their weights for the follow-up decision calculation. In this paper, an expert classification method is proposed to solve the problem. First, the CatBoost classification algorithm is improved by integrating the 2-tuple linguistic, which can effectively extract the features of samples. Second, the framework of the expert classification is designed. The flow combines the expert resume collection, expert classification, and database update. Third, a decision-making case is analyzed for the expert selection issue. The experiment and result indicate that the proposed classifier performs better than the classic methods. The proposed classification method of the decision experts can support the automatic and intelligent operation of the decision-making activities.

The power load prediction is significant in a sustainable power system, which is the key to the energy system’s economic operation. An accurate prediction of the power load can provide a reliable decision for power system planning. However, it is challenging to predict the power load with a single model, especially for multistep prediction, because the time series load data have multiple periods. This paper presents a deep hybrid model with a serial two‐level decomposition structure. First, the power load data are decomposed into components; then, the gated recurrent unit (GRU) network, with the Bayesian optimization parameters, is used as the subpredictor for each component. Last, the predictions of different components are fused to achieve the final predictions. The power load data of American Electric Power (AEP) were used to verify the proposed predictor. The results showed that the proposed prediction method could effectively improve the accuracy of power load prediction.

The outstanding desiccation tolerance of Cronobacter sakazakii (C. sakazakii) enables long-term persistence in food products with low-water activity to increase the infection risk, especially in low-birth-weight, immuno-compromised neonates, and infants less than 4 weeks of age. In our previous study, the disruption of glutathione transport-related gene gsiD by transposon was found to significantly increase its inactivation rate under drying stress challenges. However, the mechanism underlying the association between glutathione transport and desiccation tolerance of C. sakazakii remains to be clarified. In this study, the mechanism underlying their association was investigated in detail by constructing the gsiD gene deletion mutant. gsiD gene deletion was found to cause the dysfunction of the glutathione transport system GsiABCD and the limitation of glutathione import. The resulting decrease in intracellular glutathione caused the decreased potassium ions uptake and increased potassium ions efflux, inhibited the proline synthesis process, limited extracellular glutathione utilization, increased oxidant stress, reduced biofilm formation, and increased outer membrane permeability, which may be the main reasons for the significant reduction of the desiccation tolerance of C. sakazakii. Smart agricultural greenhouses provide well-controlled conditions for crop cultivation but require accurate prediction of environmental factors to ensure ideal crop growth and management efficiency. Due to the limitations of existing predictors in dealing with massive, nonlinear, and dynamic temporal data, this study proposes a bidirectional self-attentive encoder–decoder framework (BEDA) to construct the long-time predictor for multiple environmental factors with high nonlinearity and noise in a smart greenhouse. Firstly, the original data are denoised by wavelet threshold filter and pretreatment operations. Secondly, the bidirectional long short-term-memory is selected as the fundamental unit to extract time-serial features. Then, the multi-head self-attention mechanism is incorporated into the encoder–decoder framework to improve the prediction performance. Experimental investigations are conducted in a practical greenhouse to accurately predict indoor environmental factors (temperature, humidity, and CO2) from noisy IoT-based sensors. The best model for all datasets was the proposed BEDA method, with the root mean square error of three factors’ prediction reduced to 2.726, 3.621, and 49.817, and with an R of 0.749 for temperature, 0.848 for humidity, and 0.8711 for CO2 concentration, respectively. The experimental results show that the favorable prediction accuracy, robustness, and generalization of the proposed method make it suitable to more precisely manage greenhouses.

33. Retinal Vascular Morphological Changes in Patients with Extremely Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) has been shown to generate hypertension and endothelial dysfunction. Retinal vessel is the only vessel that can be observed directly and noninvasively; retinal vascular abnormalities can serve as a predictive marker for the occurrence, clinical course, and prognosis of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. The objective of this study was to identify the effect of OSAS severity on the morphological changes of retinal vessels. Methods: Adult patients complained of snoring were included in this study. The patients' general information, polysomnography, and fundus photography parameters including central retinal artery equivalent (CRAE), central retinal vein equivalent (CRVE), and arteriole-to-venule ratio (AVR) were collected. Patients were divided into four groups according to their apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) results: Group I, AHI ≤5/h; Group II, 5/h < AHI ≤30/h; Group III, 30/h < AHI ≤60/h; and Group IV, AHI> 60/h. Results: A total of 133 patients were included in this study with 111 males (83.5%) and 22 females (16.5%). Mean age was 41.6 ± 9.9 years, and the mean body mass index was 28.1 ± 4.0 kg/m2. AHI ranged between 0 and 130.8/h with a mean of 39.1 ± 30.7/h. There were 24, 34, 35, and 40 patients in Group I, Group II, Group III, and Group IV, respectively. Significant differences were found for AHI (F = 388.368, P< 0.001), minimal pulse oxygen saturation (F = 91.902, P< 0.001), and arousal index (F = 31.014, P< 0.001) among four groups; no significant differences were found for CRAE (F = 0.460, P = 0.599) and CRVE (F = 0.404, P = 0.586) among groups; there were significant differences for AVR between Group I and Group IV (63.6 ± 5.1% vs. 67.2 ± 5.5%, P = 0.010) Group II and Group IV (64.5 ± 6.0% vs. 67.2 ± 5.5%, P = 0.030), and Group III and Group IV (64.7 ± 4.1% vs. 67.2 ± 5.5%, P = 0.043). A main group-by-AHI effect was found on the AVR: patients with higher AHI showed higher AVR results (r = 0.225, P = 0.009). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used for multi-variable factors. A group-by-age effect was found on the AVR: younger patients showed higher AVR results (β = −0.001, P = 0.020). Conclusions: This study indicated that increased AVR of retinal vessel can be observed in extremely severe OSAS patients. For patients with OSAS, retinal vascular abnormalities may become an early indication for further cardiovascular abnormalities.

Background. Back muscle injury is the most common illness involved in aged people. Muscular satellite cells, playing a key role in the muscle repairing process, are gradually losing their regenerative ability with aging, which attenuates the injured muscle repairing process. Electroacupuncture at Weizhong acupoint has been widely used in the treatment of young and aged patients with back muscle damage. Its efficacy has been proven by a randomized double-blind placebo clinical trial. However, the rehabilitation mechanisms are largely unknown. This study will explore the possible mechanisms associated with electroacupuncture at the Weizhong acupoint (BL 40) promoting muscle repairing ability. Method. A total of 58 male and female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into a younger group (4-month-old) and an aged group (16-month-old), younger and aged rats were further divided as a sham, injured, injured rats treated with electroacupuncture at Weizhong point or treated with Non-Weizhong point groups. The back muscle injury model was produced in rats as a previously described method with modification. Furthermore, Weizhong acupoints underwent electroacupuncture treatment with 15 V magnitude, 2 Hz/10 Hz frequency density, 1.0 mA current intensity, and 10 min each day for 10 consecutive days using HANS’s electroacupuncture apparatus. After the last treatment, the paravertebral muscles and serum of all animals were undergone histological, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry analysis. Serum levels of Creatine Kinase (CK) and proinflammatory cytokine, interleukin 6 (IL-6), were measured separately by using ELISA kit. Results. Electroacupuncture of Weizhong (BL 40) acupoints significantly attenuated back muscle damage in both young and aged rats, increasing PAX7 (a marker of muscle satellite cells) and MYOD (major marker of myoblasts) cells, simultaneously, reducing serum proinflammatory cytokines, IL-6, and downregulation of p38 MAPK signaling in aged muscular satellite cells. Conclusion. Our studies suggest that electroacupuncture of Weizhong (BL 40) acupoints can restore aged back muscular satellite cells and their regeneration capacity. These suggested electroacupuncture may be a potential means of promoting rehabilitation for muscular injury in aged patients.

Endoscopic parotidectomy has the potential to become a reliable procedure for benign and low-grade malignant parotid gland tumors. Based on the previous literature review and our own clinical experience, we introduced in detail the surgical procedure of single incision-plus approach for gasless endoscopic parotidectomy. This method contributes a logical approach to achieving endoscopic resection of parotid gland tumor and preservation of facial nerve, which can be summarized into the following seven-step method: preoperative preparation; design of retroauricular-hairline incision and plus-incision; surgical cavities creation and coalescence; separation of surgical boundaries; separation and protection of the facial nerve trunk; processing of the branches of facial nerve; en bloc resection of the superficial parotid gland and tumor. Endoscopic parotidectomy is a more difficult procedure than conventional parotid surgery, requiring more precision as well as more experience and equipment. The learning curve of time and frequency is influenced by many factors, like anatomy, instruments, procedures and patience. We contribute our clinical exploration of anatomical precautions, feasible instruments, and surgical procedures and summarize precautions under single incision-plus in gasless endoscopic parotidectomy. Given the growing interest in the aesthetic process of the parotid region, the seven-step method may have the potential to be a method for teaching gasless endoscopic parotidectomy.

With the development of rolling linear guide manufacturing, improvements of performance and reliability of rolling linear guide products have become the critical technical challenge. One of the key-points lies in the analysis of wear process, in which the crucial step depends on the computation of the wear coefficient. However, little attention has been devoted to the wear coefficient of rolling linear guide. Therefore, in this article, to reflect the actual working condition of rolling linear guide, a novel calculation model for the wear coefficient of rolling linear guide is established first through theoretical analysis. And then, based on a novel loading bench and a friction measuring device, the wear process and wear coefficients of a rolling linear guide (DA45CL) were obtained and analyzed. Further analysis shows that the wear coefficients obtained in this article, which are several orders of magnitude less than the previous empirical values, are more reasonable for the wear analysis of rolling linear guide. The current work provides a new theoretical and experimental method to investigate the wear coefficient for rolling linear guide, which is meaningful for the study of the wear process of rolling linear guide and other rolling components of computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools.

Transgenerational experience can affect a range of natural enemies’ life-history traits and can be involved in the control of developmental plasticity. As a major egg parasitoid of the spotted lanternfly, Lycorma delicatula (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae), the wasp Anastatus orientalis (Hymenoptera: Eupelmidae) is effective at suppressing its host populations. The reproductive and developmental traits of A. orientalis is known to depend on photoperiod conditions, but transgenerational photoperiodic effects have yet to be evaluated. To evaluate the transgenerational photoperiodic effects on A. orientalis, we assessed wasp adult longevity, female fecundity, sex ratio, and diapause rate over three consecutive generations under different experimental photoperiods (L16:D8, L12:D12, and L8:D16), using Antheraea pernyi (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) eggs as hosts. The results suggest that transgenerational experience significantly impacts several biological parameters of progeny. All parasitoids entered a diapause under the long photoperiod condition (i.e., L16:D8), after which the number of female parasitoids and fecundity of the 2nd and 3rd generations increased significantly as compared to the 1st generation. With the long photoperiod conditions, the female ratio rose from 68.1% (1st generation) to 86.0% (3rd generation) and the progeny per females increased from 35.8 to 75.7. However, adult longevity of females and males were shortened significantly. With the intermediate photoperiod (L12:D12) conditions, fecundity and sex ratio of the 2nd and 3rd generations increased significantly as compared to the 1st generation. With the short photoperiod (L8:D16) conditions, there were no significant differences in fecundity among three generations, but sex ratio of the 2nd and 3rd generations increased significantly as compared to the 1st generation. These results on transgenerational photoperiodic effects can be applied to improve laboratory rearing efficiency of parasitoids and to better understand population dynamics in the field across a latitudinal gradient.

The spotted lanternfly, Lycorma delicatula (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae), an invasive planthopper discovered in Pennsylvania, U.S. in 2014, has spread to many surrounding states despite quarantines and control efforts, and further spread is anticipated. A classical (importation) biological control program would contribute to the long-term management of L. delicatula in the eastern U.S. In its native range of China, Anastatus orientalis (Hymenoptera: Eupelmidae), an egg parasitoid, causes significant mortality. Anastatus orientalis consists of multiple haplotypes that differ in important biological parameters. To delineate the physiological host range of A. orientalis Haplotype C, we completed no-choice and choice testing. No-choice testing of non-target eggs from 36 insect species spanning six orders and 18 families showed that physiologically this haplotype of A. orientalis can develop in a variety of host species eggs from the families Coreidae, Fulgoridae, Pentatomidae, and Saturniidae. Ten of the 16 species that were attacked in the no-choice tests were also attacked in the choice tests. The production of progeny on non-target egg masses was significantly lower than on the controls (L. delicatula egg masses run simultaneously) in the no-choice and choice tests. For the non-target species that were attacked and resulted in female wasp progeny, these females were able to produce their own progeny at the same rate as control females that were reared from the L. delicatula eggs. Larger host eggs corresponded to an increased female-biased sex ratio of the progeny, suggesting that gravid females select them for fertilized eggs. Results from these studies suggest that A. orientalis Haplotype C prefers to parasitize L. delicatula egg masses but is capable of developing in some non-target species.

40. Rapid assay using recombinase polymerase amplification and lateral flow dipstick for identifying Agrilus mali, a serious wood-boring beetle of the western Tianshan Mountains in China

Agrilus mali is a major wood-boring pest of Northeast Asia. Recently, it destroyed Malus sieversii and caused the decline of the wild fruit forests of the Tianshan Mountains in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. The pest beetle is often not identified due to the absence of affective rapid discrimination methods beyond adult morphological examination. This study reports a simple, rapid, specific and sensitive method based on recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) combined with lateral flow dipstick (LFD), which is able to quickly define the beetle even when it is young. RPA primers were designed based on the internal transcribed spacer 1 region (ITS1). The introduction of the probe in the reaction eliminated the false-positive signals. The probe (Probe1-b) was specificity and sensitivity with as little as 10-3 ng of purified DNA needed to detect A. mali. Moreover, the RPA reaction was carried out using crude extracted DNA, which was only extracted by immersion in sterile distilled water. The LFD is used to visualize the detection results. The results show that the whole process of the RPA-LFD assay can be completed at 38 °C in approximately 30 min, including 10 min for A. mali gDNA extraction and 15 min for RPA-LFD detection, and the amplification can be carried out in an individual’s hand; thus, this method has very good application prospects in the field of quarantine and pest management.

Short-term electrical load forecasting plays an important role in the safety, stability, and sustainability of the power production and scheduling process. An accurate prediction of power load can provide a reliable decision for power system management. To solve the limitation of the existing load forecasting methods in dealing with time-series data, causing the poor stability and non-ideal forecasting accuracy, this paper proposed an attention-based encoder-decoder network with Bayesian optimization to do the accurate short-term power load forecasting. Proposed model is based on an encoder-decoder architecture with a gated recurrent units (GRU) recurrent neural network with high robustness on time-series data modeling. The temporal attention layer focuses on the key features of input data that play a vital role in promoting the prediction accuracy for load forecasting. Finally, the Bayesian optimization method is used to confirm the model’s hyperparameters to achieve optimal predictions. The verification experiments of 24 h load forecasting with real power load data from American Electric Power (AEP) show that the proposed model outperforms other models in terms of prediction accuracy and algorithm stability, providing an effective approach for migrating time-serial power load prediction by deep-learning technology.

Ophthalmic segment artery aneurysms (OSAs) are difficult to clip; therefore, improvement of the surgical method is of great significance to the prevention of complications, and the classification of the aneurysms is essential to formulate a reasonable surgical plan.To explore the strategies and effects of surgery for OSAs using a modified subdural Dolenc approach.The clinical data of 38 patients (12 men and 26 women, aged 48-73 years) with OSA were analyzed retrospectively. A total of 44 aneurysms were identified, 40 of which were OSAs. The 40 aneurysms were divided into types Ia1 (n = 2), Ia2 (n = 2), Ib (n = 6), IIa (n = 4), IIb (n = 4), IIIa (n = 0), IIIb (n = 4), IIIc (n = 16), and IV (n = 2) based on preoperative images. Thirty-nine OSAs were operated successfully through pterional craniotomy combined with the modified subdural Dolenc approach, and 1 aneurysm was clipped through the contralateral approach. Clinical outcomes were evaluated using the Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS).Thirty-nine OSAs were clipped, and one was wrapped. Visual dysfunction, headache, and dizziness improved after the operation in 18 patients. One patient had new visual impairment, and there were no deaths. At discharge, the GOS score was 5 in 36 cases, 4 in 1 case, and 3 in 1 case. Thirty-seven patients had a GOS score of 5, and 1 patient had a score of 3 at 6 months after the operation.The modified subdural Dolenc approach (Zheng approach) for clipping OSAs may be associated with less trauma and good postoperative outcomes.

Combining morphological and molecular data, we describe a new amphibian species of the genus Kurixalus Ye, Fei, & Dubois, 1999 from the Qionglai Mountain within the western margin of the Sichuan Basin in China. Kurixalus qionglaiensis sp. nov. can be diagnosed based on a combination of the following morphological characters: medium-sized within genus (snout-vent length (SVL) in males 28.9−33.3 mm); tympanum distinct, subequal to half of eye diameter; snout pointed, prominence on tip; iris golden with brown spots; slight nuptial pad on first finger in males; background coloration of dorsal surface brown, lateral body and femoral yellow; white, dark brown edged triangular markings on cheek; chin shaded dark brown; pair of large symmetrical dark patches on chest; belly clouded brown and scattered black spots; toes moderately webbed, formula Ⅰ 2–2 Ⅱ 1.5–2.5 Ⅲ 1.5–2.5 Ⅳ 2.5–1.5 Ⅴ; tibia length slightly shorter than half of SVL, tibiotarsal articulation reaching posterior border of eye; single external vocal sac present. Based on the 16S rRNA gene, the genetic distance between the new species and its sister taxon K. idiootocus (Kuramoto & Wang, 1987) was 4%. At present, the new species is known only from a single location at an elevation of ~600 m in Pingle Town, Qionglai City, Sichuan, southwestern China. This location can represent a new northernmost geographical limit of the genus Kurixalus.

The performance of ball screws degrades with two-stage features due to the deteriorating inner mechanism and environmental stress, which lowers the positioning accuracy of the ball screws. It thus affects the accuracy of computer numerical control machine tools. However, no research has been carried out on the degradation reliability for ball screws and current studies usually treat the performance degradation of ball screws as a deterministic, single-stage degradation process, ignoring the randomness and two-stage features in the degradation progress. To this end, we firstly formulated a framework of degradation reliability for ball screws, and then established a two-stage performance degradation model with eight unknown parameters. To estimate the unknown parameters, we proposed a two-phase, expectation-maximization estimation method. Finally, we established a degradation reliability model based on the degradation test data and validated the model through experimental data, which shows the model can capture the real-degradation behavior of ball screws.

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a chronic musculoskeletal disease affecting the entire joint. Exercise therapy is the core treatment plan for non-surgical treatment of KOA, and tele-rehabilitation is also applied to KOA, but there is a lack of research on the comparison of pain and function recovery between different exercise methods combined Internet respectively. The study aims to compare the effects of power cycling and quadriceps training combined with online guidance separately on KOA mitigation of pain, recovery of function, quality of life, and adherence of participants in the community, compared to the control group.This study is a single-blind, 12-week parallel randomized controlled trial. Seventy-two participants aged ≥ 50 years with KOA will be randomized into either the power cycling group, the quadriceps group or the control group. The intervention will be performed three times per week during 12 weeks. Outcome measures will be assessed at baseline, and at 4, 8, and 12 weeks after allocation. The primary outcome will be self-reported pain, assessed with the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) pain subscale. Secondary outcomes will include mitigation of knee pain, quality of life, improvement of functional physical performance, adherence of participants.By summarizing the study's strengths and limitations, this trial results may guide tele-rehabilitation of KOA in the community.Trial registration: The study was registered in the clinical trial registry ChiCTR2200059255, 27/04/2022.

49. Role of endoscopic ultrasound in the evaluation of unexplained extrahepatic bile duct dilatation

This study was performed to assess the diagnostic performance of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) in patients with extrahepatic bile duct (EBD) dilatation and develop a novel model incorporating EUS-based signature with clinical parameters for distinguishing the malignant dilation of EBD.The EUS data and clinical parameters of the patients were collected and analyzed retrospectively. First, we evaluated the diagnostic performance of EUS in detecting the cause of EBD dilatation. Then, we performed univariate and multivariate binary logistic regression analyses based on clinical and EUS features. Finally, a nomogram was established to aid in distinguishing between malignant dilation and noncalculous benign dilatation of EBD in patients.A total of 184 patients were enrolled. For the diagnosis of malignant dilation, EUS achieved an accuracy of 90.76%, sensitivity of 85.96%, and specificity of 92.91%. For the diagnosis of calculous dilation, EUS achieved an accuracy of 100%, sensitivity of 100%, and specificity of 100%. For the diagnosis of noncalculous benign dilatation, EUS achieved an accuracy of 90.76%, sensitivity of 90.90%, and specificity of 90.58%. Multivariable logistic regression analyses indicated that abnormal liver function test, elevated tumor markers, and EUS findings were the well-diagnostic factors of malignant EBD dilation. The nomogram established by these factors showed good calibration and discrimination.EUS is a useful examinational modality in the work-up of EBD dilatation. In combination with abnormal liver function test and elevated tumor markers, EUS may provide additional information for the detection of malignant dilation of EBD and should be further investigated.

50. Deep Hybrid Model Based on EMD with Classification by Frequency Characteristics for Long-Term Air Quality Prediction

Air pollution (mainly PM2.5) is one of the main environmental problems about air quality. Air pollution prediction and early warning is a prerequisite for air pollution prevention and control. However, it is not easy to accurately predict the long-term trend because the collected PM2.5 data have complex nonlinearity with multiple components of different frequency characteristics. This study proposes a hybrid deep learning predictor, in which the PM2.5 data are decomposed into components by empirical mode decomposition (EMD) firstly, and a convolutional neural network (CNN) is built to classify all the components into a fixed number of groups based on the frequency characteristics. Then, a gated-recurrent-unit (GRU) network is trained for each group as the sub-predictor, and the results from the three GRUs are fused to obtain the prediction result. Experiments based on the PM2.5 data from Beijing verify the proposed model, and the prediction results show that the decomposition and classification can develop the accuracy of the proposed predictor for air pollution prediction greatly.
