Bipolar junction transistors (BJTs) are often used in spacecraft due to their excellent working characteristics. However, the complex space radiation environment induced primary knock-on atom (PKA) in BJTs through collisions, resulting in hard-to-recover displacement damage and affecting the electrical performance of electronic components. In this paper, the properties of PKAs induced by typical space-heavy ions (C, N, O, Fe) in BJTs are investigated using Monte Carlo simulations. The simulated results show that the energy spectrum of ion-induced PKAs is primarily concentrated in the low energy range (17-100 eV) and displays similar features across all tested ions. The PKAs induced by the collision of energetic ions have a large forward scattering angle, which is mainly around 88°. Moreover, PKA distribution within the transistor as a function of depth displays a peak characteristics, and the peak position is linearly proportional to the incident energy at a certain energy range. These simulation outcomes serve as crucial theoretical support for long-term semiconductor material defect evolution and ground testing of semiconductor devices.

Charge-changing cross section ($\sigma_{\text{cc}}$) measurements via the transmission method have made important progress recently aiming to determine the charge radii of exotic nuclei. In this work, we report a new $\sigma_{\text{cc}}$ measurement of 304(9) MeV/nucleon $^{28}$Si on carbon at the second Radioactive Ion Beam Line in Lanzhou (RIBLL2) and describe the data analysis procedure in detail. This procedure is essential to evaluate the systematic uncertainty in the transmission method. The determined $\sigma_{\mathrm{cc}}$ of 1125(11) mb is found to be consistent with the existing data at similar energies. Background Bone morphogenetic protein receptor type 1A (BMPR1A) is responsible for two individual Mendelian diseases: juvenile polyposis syndrome and hereditary mixed polyposis syndrome 2, which have overlapping phenotypes. This study aimed to elucidate whether these two syndromes are just two subtypes of a single syndrome rather than two isolated syndromes. Methods We sequenced the BMPR1A gene in 186 patients with polyposis and colorectal cancer, and evaluated the clinicopathological features and phenotypes of the probands and their available relatives with BMPR1A mutations. Results BMPR1A germline mutations were found in six probands and their three available relatives. The numbers of frameshift, nonsense, splice-site, and missense mutations were one, one, two, and two, respectively; two of the six mutations were novel. Typical juvenile polyps were found in only three patients. Two patients had colorectal cancer rather than any polyps. Conclusions Diseases in BMPR1A germline mutation carriers vary from mixed polyposis to sole colorectal cancer, and typical juvenile polyps do not always occur in these carriers. The variety of phenotypes reflected the features of BMPR1A-mutation carriers, which should be recognized as a spectrum of one syndrome. Genetic testing may be a good approach to identifying BMPR1A-related syndromes.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the commonest neurodegenerative disease and, in recent years, studies have increasingly shown that vascular lesions are involved in the pathology of AD onset and progression. Many vascular changes precede the pathological changes and clinical symptoms of AD, and vascular lesions and AD have many common risk factors. Understanding the relationship between vascular factors and the pathological process of AD may help us to identify novel prevention and treatment strategies as well as delay disease progress. Previous studies have shown that lycopene has neuroprotective, antioxidant, and anticancer effects; however, the specific molecular mechanism mediating these effects remains unknown. In the present study, we found: 1) lycopene improved learning and memory in an AD mouse model; 2) lycopene inhibited amyloid plaque aggregation and neuroinflammation; and 3) lycopene induced LXR expression and activated the LXR-PI3K-AKT signaling pathway. Our findings suggest that promotion of neurogenesis and improvement of the functions of the neurovascular unit could be a novel direction for the development of AD therapies.

BackgroundJuvenile polyposis syndrome (JPS) is a rare disorder characterized by the presence of multiple juvenile polyps in the gastrointestinal tract, and germline mutations in SMAD4 or BMPR1A. Due to its rarity and complex clinical manifestation, misdiagnosis often occurs in clinical practice.Case presentationA 42-year-old man with multiple pedunculated colorectal polyps and concomitant rectal adenocarcinoma was admitted to our hospital. His mother had died of colon cancer. He was diagnosed with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) and underwent total proctocolectomy and ileal pouch anal anastomosis. Two polyps were selected for pathological examination. One polyp had cystically dilated glands with slight dysplasia. The other polyp displayed severe dysplasia and was diagnosed as adenoma. Three years later, his 21-year-old son underwent a colonoscopy that revealed more than 50 pedunculated colorectal juvenile polyps. Both patients harbored a germline pathogenic mutation inBMPR1A. Endoscopic resection of all polyps was attempted but failed. Finally, the son received endoscopic resection of polyps in the rectum and sigmoid colon, and laparoscopic subtotal colectomy. Ten polyps were selected for pathological examination. All were revealed to be typical juvenile polyps, with cystically dilated glands filled with mucus. Thus, the diagnosis of JPS was confirmed in the son. A review of the literatures revealed that patients with JPS can sometimes have adenomatous change. Most polyps in patients with JPS are benign hamartomatous polyps with no dysplasia. A review of 767 colorectal JPS polyps demonstrated that 8.5% of the polyps contained mild to moderate dysplasia, and only 0.3% had severe dysplasia or cancer. It is difficult to differentiate juvenile polyps with dysplasia from adenoma, which could explain why juvenile polyps have been reported to have adenomatous changes in patients with JPS. Therefore, patients with JPS, especially those with concomitant dysplasia and adenocarcinoma, might be easily diagnosed as FAP in clinical practice.ConclusionsJuvenile polyp with dysplasia is often diagnosed as adenoma, which might lead to the misdiagnosis of JPS as FAP. The differential diagnosis of JPS versus FAP, should be based on comprehensive evaluation of clinical presentation, endoscopic appearance and genetic investigations; not on the presence or absence of adenoma.

A Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, non-sporulating, yellow-pigmented and rod or cocci-shaped bacterium, designated Arc0846-15T, was isolated from the kelp Laminaria japonica. Strain Arc0846-15T was found to grow at 16–35 °C (optimum, 28 °C), at pH 6.0–9.5 (optimum, 7.0) and in the presence of 0–6 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 2 %). Cells were positive for catalase and negative for oxidase activity. Phylogenetic analyses, based on 16S rRNA gene sequence comparisons, revealed that the nearest phylogenetic neighbour strains of strain Arc0846-15T were Ornithinimicrobium murale 01 Gi-040T (96.2 %), Ornithinimicrobium kibberense K22-20T (96.1 %) and Ornithinimicrobium humiphilum HKI 0124T (95.2 %). Based on phylogenomic analysis, the average nucleotide identity values between strain Arc0846-15T and the neighbour strains were 69.8, 69.7 and 69.8 %, respectively; the digital DNA–DNA hybridization values between strain Arc0846-15T and its three closest neighbour strains were 18.8, 19.1 and 19.3 %, respectively. The predominant menaquinone was MK-8 (H4). The dominant cellular fatty acids were C17 : 1 ω8c, iso-C15 : 0, iso-C16 : 0 and C17 : 0. The polar lipids contained diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, glycolipid, one unidentified aminolipid and four unidentified lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain Arc0846-15T was 61.6 mol% based on the whole genome sequence. Based on the phylogenetic and phenotypic characteristics, strain Arc0846-15T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Ornithinimicrobium , for which the name Ornithinimicrobium laminariae sp. nov. is proposed, with Arc0846-15T (=KCTC 49655T=MCCC 1K06093T) as the type strain.

A Gram-stain-negative, motile, facultative anaerobic and rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain NR704-98T, was isolated from marine sediment of the northern South China Sea. Cells were positive for oxidase and catalase activity. Growth was observed at 4–30 °C (optimum 20–25 °C), at pH 6–9 (pH 7) and with 0.5–7 % NaCl (2 %). The 16S rRNA gene-based phylogenetic analysis revealed that the nearest phylogenetic neighbours of strain NR704-98T were Shewanella woodyi MS32T (97.9 %), Shewanella hanedai 281T (97.1 %), Shewanella sediminis HAW-EB3T (96.8 %) and Shewanella canadensis HAW-EB2T (96.7 %). Based on the results of phylogenomic analysis, the average nucleotide identity and the digital DNA–DNA hybridization values between strain NR704-98T and the previously mentioned type strains of species of the genus Shewanella were in the range of 74.9–93.1 % and 20.6–51.4 %, respectively. The respiratory quinones were Q-7 and Q-8. The predominant fatty acids (>10 %) of strain NR704-98T were C16 : 0, summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c and/or C16 : 1 ω6c) and iso-C15 : 0. Phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, two unidentified aminophospholipids and five unidentified lipids were detected in strain NR704-98T. Based on the phylogenetic and phenotypic characteristics, strain NR704-98T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Shewanella , for which the name Shewanella nanhaiensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is NR704-98T (=KCTC 82799T=MCCC 1K06091T).

BACKGROUND: Dysregulation of the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase (NOX) family is frequently observed in cancers and associated with their development and progression. However, the expression, role, and clinical significance of the NOX family members in pancreatic cancer remain unexplored. METHODS: The expression levels of the 7 NOX family genes were analyzed in Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets. The messenger RNA (mRNA) expression and gene alterations were explored using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data portal. Clinical significance analyses of the NOX family genes were conducted among pancreatic cancer patients. The expression and prognostic value of dual oxidase 2 (DUOX2) were then validated by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) in an independent validation cohort. The function of DUOX2 was analyzed by gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and its effect on the chemosensitivity of pancreatic cancer cells was detected by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. RESULTS: Results showed that NOX1, NOX2 (CYBB), NOX4, DUOX1, and DUOX2 were upregulated, while NOX3 and NOX5 were downregulated in pancreatic cancer tissues compared with nontumor tissues. Genomic alteration analysis demonstrated that deregulation of NOX family genes was partially caused by genomic alterations. Survival analyses showed that only DUOX2 was associated with overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS) of pancreatic cancer patients. The DUOX2 gene was observed to be markedly overexpressed in pancreatic cancer. In the GSEA results for pancreatic cancer patients, DUOX2 was significantly associated with oxidoreductase activity acting on nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydrogen (NADH) or NADPH and uridine 5’-diphospho-glucuronosyltansferase (UDP) glycosyltransferase activity. Knockdown of DUOX2 in pancreatic cancer cells increased their sensitivity to doxorubicin. CONCLUSIONS: Overexpression of DUOX2 is correlated with prognosis and recurrence in pancreatic cancer patients and acts as a good marker for pancreatic cancer course prediction; furthermore, DUOX2 might be a therapeutic target for pancreatic cancer patients.

The order Microcoryphia, commonly known as bristletails, is considered as the most primitive one among living insects. Within this order, two species, Coreamachilis coreanus and C. songi (Machilidae: Machilinae), display the following contrasting reproductive strategies: parthenogenesis occurs in C. coreanus, whereas sexual reproduction is found in C. songi. In the present study, the complete mitogenomes of C. coreanus and C. songi were sequenced to compare their mitogenome structure, analyze relationships within the Microcoryphia, and assess adaptive evolution. The length of the mitogenomes of C. coreanus and C. songi were 15,578 bp and 15,570 bp, respectively, and the gene orders were those of typical insects. A long hairpin structure was found between the ND1 and 16S rRNA genes of both species that seem to be characteristic of Machilinae and Petrobiinae species. Phylogenetic assessment of Coreamachilis was conducted using BI and ML analyses with concatenated nucleotide sequences of the 13 protein-coding genes. The results showed that the monophyly of Machilidae, Machilinae, and Petrobiinae was not supported. The genus Coreamachilis (C. coreanus and C. songi) was a sister clade to Allopsontus helanensis, and then the clade of ((C. coreanus + C. songi) + A. helanensis) was a sister clade to A. baii, which suggests that the monophyly of Allopsontus was not supported. Positive selection analysis of the 13 protein-coding genes failed to reveal any positive selection in C. coreanus or C. songi. The long hairpin structures found in Machilinae and Petrobiinae were highly consistent with the phylogenetic results and could potentially be used as an additional molecular characteristic to further discuss relationships within the Microcoryphia.

The isotopic cross sections of residual nuclei produced in fragmentation reactions of 18O projectiles impinging on a carbon target at energies near 260 MeV/nucleon were measured at the HIRFL facility in Lanzhou (China). A full identification of atomic and mass numbers of fragments was achieved from the determination of their magnetic rigidity, energy loss, and time of flight. The production cross sections for a dozen of nitrogen, carbon, and boron isotopes were determined with uncertainties below 30% for most of the cases. The obtained cross sections for N and B isotopes show a rather good agreement with previous experimental data obtained with different projectile energies. The cross sections for some C isotopes seem to exhibit a dependence on the projectile energy. A comparison of the data and several theoretical model calculations are presented.

It is challenging to insulate sound transmission in low frequency-bands without blocking the air flow in a pipe. In this work, a small and light membrane-based cubic sound insulator is created to block acoustic waves in multiple low frequency-bands from 200 to 800 Hz in pipes. Due to distinct vibration modes of the membrane-type faces of the insulator and co-action of acoustic waves transmitting along different paths, large sound attenuation is achieved in multiple frequency-bands, and the maximum transmission loss reaches 25 dB. Furthermore, because the sound insulator with a deep subwavelength size is smaller than the cross-sectional area of the pipe, it does not block ventilation along the pipe.

Simple Summary The Ephemeroptera is an ancient lineage of insects, among which the Heptageniidae is one of the most species-rich families, although its phylogenetic relationships have been controversial. The mitogenomes of Heptageniidae were found gene rearrangements of CR-I-M-Q-M-ND2 and a conserved intergenic gap between trnA and trnR. Thus, 15 complete and two nearly complete mitogenomes of Heptageniidae were used to explore mitogenome structures and clarify the disputes of phylogenetic relationships among Heptageniidae. Additionally, the Heptageniidae samples collected from habitats with significant temperature differences were applied to investigate the adaptive evolution of mitochondrial PCGs under low-temperature stress. Abstract We determined 15 complete and two nearly complete mitogenomes of Heptageniidae belonging to three subfamilies (Heptageniinae, Rhithrogeninae, and Ecdyonurinae) and six genera (Afronurus, Epeorus, Leucrocuta, Maccaffertium, Stenacron, and Stenonema). Species of Rhithrogeninae and Ecdyonurinae had the same gene rearrangement of CR-I-M-Q-M-ND2, whereas a novel gene rearrangement of CR-I-M-Q-NCR-ND2 was found in Heptageniinae. Non-coding regions (NCRs) of 25–47 bp located between trnA and trnR were observed in all mayflies of Heptageniidae, which may be a synapomorphy for Heptageniidae. Both the BI and ML phylogenetic analyses supported the monophyly of Heptageniidae and its subfamilies (Heptageniinae, Rhithrogeninae, and Ecdyonurinae). The phylogenetic results combined with gene rearrangements and NCR locations confirmed the relationship of the subfamilies as (Heptageniinae + (Rhithrogeninae + Ecdyonurinae)). To assess the effects of low-temperature stress on Heptageniidae species from Ottawa, Canada, we found 27 positive selection sites in eight protein-coding genes (PCGs) using the branch-site model. The selection pressure analyses suggested that mitochondrial PCGs underwent positive selection to meet the energy requirements under low-temperature stress.

Objective To report Peutz–Jeghers syndrome (PJS) cases with non-definitive clues in the family or personal history and finally diagnosed through pathological examination and STK11 gene mutation test. Clinical presentation and intervention PJS was suspected in 3 families with tortuous medical courses. Two of them had relatives departed due to polyposis or colon cancer without pathological results, and the other one had been diagnosed as hyperplastic polyposis before. Diagnosis of PJS was confirmed by endoscopy and repeated pathological examinations, and the STK11 mutation test finally confirmed the diagnosis at genetic level, during which 3 novel mutation were detected (536C > A, 373_374insA, 454_455insGGAGAAGCGTTTCCCAGTGTGCC). Conclusion Early diagnosis of PJS is important and may be based on a family history with selective features among family members, and the pathological information is the key. The novel mutations also expand the STK11 variant spectrum.

In the biomedicine field, three-dimensional (3-D) printing of biomaterials can construct complex 3-D biological structures such as personalized implants, biodegradable tissue scaffolds, artificial organs, etc. Therefore, nanocellulose/gelatin composite hydrogels are often selected as bio-printing materials in the 3-D printing of biological scaffolds. Process parameters of 3-D printed bio-scaffolds were studied in this work because formation accuracy of scaffolds is an important part of the molding process. Firstly, the mixing proportion of nanocellulose and gelatin was explored, and the optimum proportion was selected. Then, the printing effects of different printing pressures, temperatures, speeds, and nozzle diameters were used in the 3-D printing. The filament widths were used to evaluate the molding effects. Finally, through the calculation and analysis of the grey correlation coefficient and grey correlation degree, the multi-objective optimization of the parameters was carried out. The combined effects of the process parameters and the influence degree order on the evaluation index were obtained. Using these parameters, the 3-D porous biological scaffolds were printed with high precision. Furthermore, using a microscope, the morphologies of CCK-8 cells were observed and the cell proliferation were analyzed. The results demonstrated that the printed bio-scaffolds had good biocompatibility.

An Al-supported cage-like mesoporous silica type MCM-41 has been prepared using a simple one-step synthetic procedure using oil shale residue and CTAB(Hexadecyl trimethyl Ammonium Bromide) as the template. The effects of temperature on the porosity, structure and surface area of Al-MCM-41 mesoporous materials were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, N2adsorption desorption, scanning electron micrographs (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The results indicated that temperature was a key to the characteristics of Al-MCM-41 materials, and when the temperature up to 333 K, Al-MCM-41 exhibited excellent characteristics with high degree of order, high surface area and pore volume. The one-step hydrothermal synthesized MCM-41 mesoporous material possessed high BET surface area, high pore size and high pore volume. They are respectively 835.1 m2/g, 32.6 Å and 1.22 cm3/g under the condition of the Si : Al =78:1, pH =10, crystallization temperature was 333K, crystallization time was 48h and calcination at 823 K for 5 h in air. All the results indicated the possibility of using oil shale residue as silicon and aluminum source to produce Al-MCM-41, and gave us a new way to recycle a solid waste. Gene rearrangements have been found in several mitochondrial genomes of Mantodea, located in the gene blocks CR-I-Q-M-ND2, COX1-K-D-ATP8 and ND3-A-R-N-S-E-F-ND5. We have sequenced one mitogenome of Amelidae (Yersinia mexicana) and six mitogenomes of Mantidae to discuss the mitochondrial gene rearrangement and the phylogenetic relationship within Mantidae. These mitogenomes showed rearrangements of tRNA genes except for Asiadodis yunnanensis and Hierodula zhangi. These novel gene rearrangements of Mantidae were primarily concentrated in the region of CR-I-Q-M-ND2, including gene translocation, duplication and pseudogenization. For the occurrences of these rearrangements, the tandem duplication-random loss (TDRL) model and slipped-strand mispairing model were suitable to explain. Large non-coding regions (LNCRs) located in the region of CR-I-Q-M-ND2 were detected in most Mantidae species, whereas some LNCRs had high similarity to the control region (CR). Both BI and ML phylogenetic analyses supported the monophyly of Mantidae and the paraphyly of Mantinae. The phylogenetic results with the gene order and the location of NCRs acted as forceful evidence that specific gene rearrangements and special LNCRs may be synapomorphies for several groups of mantises.

The Luciolinae genus Emeia Fu, Ballantyne & Lambkin, 2012 is reviewed. Firefly species tree is reconstructed based upon phylogenetic analysis of CO1 barcoding sequences from 42 fireflies and 2 outgroup species, including three main Lampyridae sub-families: Luciolinae, Photurinae and Lampyrinae. The genus Emeia belongs to Luciolinae based on morphological and DNA sequence level evidences, the diagnostic features for male adults include pink-red pronotum with a black median stripe, subparallel-sided pronotum, un-developed elytral humeral carina. In this study, a new Emeia species,Emeia pulchra sp. nov. is described and illustrated from the wetland of Lishui, Zhejiang, China. The new species is sister to E. pseudosauteri in the Emeia genus which is supported by characteristic morphological features and DNA barcoding data. The two species are separated geographically as shown on the distribution map. A key to the males of the species of Emeia is also provided.

Two Li-rich candidates, TYC 1338-1410-1 and TYC 2825-596-1, were observed with the new high-resolution echelle spectrograph, LAMOST/HRS. Based on the high-resolution and high-signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) spectra, we derived stellar parameters and abundances of 14 important elements for the two candidates. The stellar parameters and lithium abundances indicate that they are Li-rich K-type giants, and they have A(Li)$_\mathrm{NLTE}$ of 1.77 and 2.91 dex, respectively. Our analysis suggests that TYC 1338-1410-1 is likely a red giant branch (RGB) star at the bump stage, while TYC 2825-596-1 is most likely a core helium-burning red clump (RC) star. The line profiles of both spectra indicate that the two Li-rich giants are slow rotators and do not show infrared (IR) excess. We conclude that engulfment is not the lithium enrichment mechanism for either star. The enriched lithium of TYC 1338-1410-1 could be created via Cameron-Fowler mechanism, while the lithium excess in TYC 2825-596-1 could be associated with either non-canonical mixing processes or He-flash., 12 pages, 5 figures, to be published in Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics

Objective: Diabetic nephropathy is a serious threat to human health, and its incidence is on the rise. End-stage diabetic nephropathy (ESDN) requires extra investigation due to its complexity and severity, as well as serious concurrent diseases. Our objective was to compare the efficacy of hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) in the treatment of ESDN. Methods: Clinical data of 84 patients with ESDN admitted to our hospital from June 2016 to June 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into an HD group that received hemodialysis and a PD group that received peritoneal dialysis. Their general conditions, biochemical indicators, residual renal function and incidence of complications were recorded and compared between the two groups. Results: (1) No significant difference in diastolic blood pressure, systolic blood pressure, body weight, or urine output was detected between the two groups at the beginning of dialysis (P>0.05). Lithium has confused scientists for decades at almost each scale of the universe. Lithium-rich giants are peculiar stars with lithium abundances over model prediction. A large fraction of lithium-rich low-mass evolved stars are traditionally supposed to be red giant branch (RGB) stars. Recent studies, however, report that red clump (RC) stars are more frequent than RGB. Here, we present a uniquely large systematic study combining the direct asteroseismic analysis with the spectroscopy on the lithium-rich stars. The majority of lithium-rich stars are confirmed to be RCs, whereas RGBs are minor. We reveal that the distribution of lithium-rich RGBs steeply decline with the increasing lithium abundance, showing an upper limit around 2.6 dex, whereas the Li abundances of RCs extend to much higher values. We also find that the distributions of mass and nitrogen abundance are notably different between RC and RGB stars. BackgroundPancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal human cancers.N6-methyladenosine (m6A), a common eukaryotic mRNA modification, plays critical roles in both physiological and pathological processes. However, its role in pancreatic cancer remains elusive.MethodsLC/MS was used to profile m6A levels in pancreatic cancer and normal tissues. Bioinformatics analysis, real-time PCR, immunohistochemistry, and western blotting were used to identify the role of m6A regulators in pancreatic cancer. The biological effects of methyltransferase-like 14 (METTL14), an mRNA methylase, were investigated using in vitro and in vivo models. MeRIP-Seq and RNA-Seq were used to assess the downstream targets of METTL14.ResultsWe found that the m6A levels were elevated in approximately 70% of the pancreatic cancer samples. Furthermore, we demonstrated that METTL14 is the major enzyme that modulates m6A methylation (frequency and site of methylation). METTL14 overexpression markedly promoted pancreatic cancer cell proliferation and migration both in vitro and in vivo,via direct targeting of the downstreamPERPmRNA (p53 effector related to PMP-22) in an m6A-dependent manner. Methylation of the target adenosine lead to increasedPERPmRNA turnover, thus decreasing PERP (mRNA and protein) levels in pancreatic cancer cells.ConclusionsOur data suggest that the upregulation of METTL14 leads to the decrease of PERP levels via m6A modification, promoting the growth and metastasis of pancreatic cancer; therefore METTL14 is a potential therapeutic target for its treatment.

Inflammation plays a major role in the development of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury. Recombinant human brain natriuretic peptide (rhBNP), a man-made version of a peptide that is elevated in heart failure, exhibits anti-inflammatory effects in various tissues. However, its role in myocardial IR injury remains unclear. In this study, we demonstrate that treatment with rhBNP provided protection for mice against myocardial IR injury as manifested by reduced infarct size and well-preserved myocardial, attenuated inflammatory infiltration and CD4+ T cell proliferation function, and inhibited expression of proinflammatory related genes. Furthermore, mechanistic studies revealed that rhBNP inhibited Jurkat T proliferation by promoting PI3K/AKT/mTOR phosphorylation. Collectively, our data suggest that the administration of rhBNP during IR injury could expand our understanding of the cardioprotective effects of rhBNP.

Zinc Selenide ceramic was successfully fabricated by spark plasma sintering in the study. The ZnSe raw powders were handled with two different methods such as grinding and planetary ball milling, respectively. The relative density, microstructure and transmittance of the ZnSe ceramic sintered under the same sintering parameter with two type powders was investigated. The results shown that the performance of the powder processed by ball milling was more effective than that by grinding. Furthermore, the maximum relative density can reach 99.8% when the ZnSe powder treated by ball milling were sintered at 950 oC for 30 min with the heating rate of 10 oC/min under 100 MPa.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Mantis religiosa (Mantodea: Mantidae) from Canada was successfully sequenced. The mitochondrial genome was a circular molecule of 15,521 bp in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes, 23 tRNA genes (including an extra tRNAArg gene), and the control region. The AT content of the whole genome was 76.9% and the length of the control region was 636 bp with 81.9% AT content. The structure of the M. religiosa mitochondrial genome from Canada was almost identical to M. religiosa from China and their genetic distance was just 0.017. In Bayesian inference (BI) and maximum likelihood (ML) analyses, we found that M. religiosa was a sister clade to Statilia sp. and the monophyly of the genera Hierodula and Rhombodera was not supported.
