Objective A pilot study to evaluate the correlation between multimodal imaging features and the expression of the human epidermal growth factor receptor type 2 (HER-2) in breast cancer to provide a basis for clinical treatment and prognosis evaluation.Methods We included a total of 62 patients with breast cancer admitted to the Affiliated Hospital of Hebei University between 2018 and 2022. All of them underwent the relevant investigations, including ultrasound, mammography, and enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), in the hospital within one month before surgery or biopsy. HER-2 expression level was divided into negative and positive by immunohistochemistry(IHC). Using SPSS 24.0 statistical software to analyze the differences in imaging features between the HER-2 positive and the HER-2 negative groups.Results There was a statistically significant difference between the HER-2 positive and the HER-2 negative groups (p = 0.005) in the hyperechoic halo sign around the lesion detected by ultrasonography as well as in the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) on MRI (p = 0.047). The sensitivity and specificity of the hyperechoic halo sign in predicting HER-2 positivity was 48.3% and 84.8% respectively, and the area under the curve (AUC) for the ADC value to predict HER-2 expression was 0.533. When b was equal to 800 and the ADC value (cutoff value) was 0.000888 mm2/s, the sensitivity and specificity were 65.5% and 51.5%, respectively.Conclusion A combination of multimodal imaging features and HER-2 gene expression can provide more valuable information for clinical diagnosis and therapeutic schedule in breast cancer.

Abstract Background The prevalence of hypertensive heart disease (HHD) is high and there is currently no easy way to detect early HHD. Explore the application of radiomics using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) non-enhanced cine sequences in diagnosing HHD and latent cardiac changes caused by hypertension. Methods 132 patients who underwent CMR scanning were divided into groups: HHD (42), hypertension with normal cardiac structure and function (HWN) group (46), and normal control (NOR) group (44). Myocardial regions of the end-diastolic (ED) and end-systolic (ES) phases of the CMR short-axis cine sequence images were segmented into regions of interest (ROI). Three feature subsets (ED, ES, and ED combined with ES) were established after radiomic least absolute shrinkage and selection operator feature selection. Nine radiomic models were built using random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), and naive Bayes. Model performance was analyzed using receiver operating characteristic curves, and metrics like accuracy, area under the curve (AUC), precision, recall, and specificity. Results The feature subsets included first-order, shape, and texture features. SVM of ED combined with ES achieved the highest accuracy (0.833), with a macro-average AUC of 0.941. AUCs for HHD, HWN, and NOR identification were 0.967, 0.876, and 0.963, respectively. Precisions were 0.972, 0.740, and 0.826; recalls were 0.833, 0.804, and 0.863, respectively; and specificities were 0.989, 0.863, and 0.909, respectively. Conclusions Radiomics technology using CMR non-enhanced cine sequences can detect early cardiac changes due to hypertension. It holds promise for future use in screening for latent cardiac damage in early HHD.

Abstract Background To investigate the prevalence of euthyroid sick syndrome (ESS) and to evaluate the outcomes and risk factors associated with ESS among hospitalized patients with diabetic ketosis (DK) or diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). Methods Laboratory and clinical data of 396 adult hospitalized DK/DKA patients with or without ESS were collected and analyzed. Spearman linear analysis and multivariable logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate correlated factors of thyroid hormones and risk factors of ESS. Results Most of the individuals were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (359/396, 90.7%). The prevalence of ESS was 57.8% (229/396). Patients in ESS group were older and had a longer course of diabetes. Levels of thyroid hormones, serum lipids, and parameters reflecting acidosis were significantly decreased in ESS group. The proportion of patients with infection, acute renal injury and DKA was significantly higher in ESS group than in control group, accompanied by longer hospitalization stay and higher hospitalization costs. In this study, a high-efficiency superparamagnetic drug delivery system was developed for preclinical treatment of bladder cancer in small animals. Two types of nanoparticles with magnetic particle imaging (MPI) capability, i.e., single- and multi-core superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs), were selected and coupled with bladder anti-tumor drugs by a covalent coupling scheme. Owing to the minimal particle size, magnetic field strengths of 270 mT with a gradient of 3.2 T/m and 260 mT with a gradient of 3.7 T/m were found to be necessary to reach an average velocity of 2 mm/s for single- and multi-core SPIONs, respectively. To achieve this, a method of constructing an in vitro magnetic field for drug delivery was developed based on hollow multi-coils arranged coaxially in close rows, and magnetic field simulation was used to study the laws of the influence of the coil structure and parameters on the magnetic field. Using this method, a magnetic drug delivery system of single-core SPIONs was developed for rabbit bladder therapy. The delivery system consisted of three coaxially and equidistantly arranged coils with an inner diameter of Φ50 mm, radial height of 85 mm, and width of 15 mm that were positioned in close proximity to each other. CCK8 experimental results showed that the three types of drug-coupled SPION killed tumor cells effectively. By adjusting the axial and radial positions of the rabbit bladder within the inner hole of the delivery coil structure, the magnetic drugs injected could undergo two-dimensional delivery motions and were delivered and aggregated to the specified target location within 12 s, with an aggregation range of about 5 mm × 5 mm. In addition, the SPION distribution before and after delivery was imaged using a home-made open-bore MPI system that could realistically reflect the physical state. This study contributes to the development of local, rapid, and precise drug delivery and the visualization of this process during cancer therapy, and further research on MPI/delivery synchronization technology is planned for the future.

N- Demethylsinomenine (NDSM), the in vivo demethylated metabolite of sinomenine, has exhibited antinociceptive efficacy against various pain models and may become a novel drug candidate for pain management. However, no reported analytical method for quantification of N- Demethylsinomenine in a biological matrix is currently available, and the pharmacokinetic properties of N- Demethylsinomenine are unknown. In the present study, an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method for quantification of N- Demethylsinomenine in rat plasma was developed and utilized to examine the preclinical pharmacokinetic profiles of N- Demethylsinomenine. The liquid-liquid extraction using ethyl acetate as the extractant was selected to treat rat plasma samples. The mixture of 25% aqueous phase (0.35% acetic acid-10 mM ammonium acetate buffer) and 75% organic phase (acetonitrile) was chosen as the mobile phases flowing on a ZORBAX C18 column to perform the chromatographic separation. After a 6-min rapid elution, NDSM and its internal standard (IS), metronidazole, were separated successfully. The ion pairs of 316/239 and 172/128 were captured for detecting N- Demethylsinomenine and IS, respectively, using multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) under a positive electrospray ionization (ESI) mode in this mass spectrometry analysis. The standard curve met linear requirements within the concentration range from 3 to 1000 ng/mL, and the lower limit of quantification (LLOQ) was 3 ng/mL. The method was evaluated regarding precision, accuracy, recovery, matrix effect, and stability, and all the results met the criteria presented in the guidelines for validation of biological analysis method. Then the pharmacokinetic profiles of N- Demethylsinomenine in rat plasma were characterized using this validated UPLC-MS/MS method. N- Demethylsinomenine exhibited the feature of linear pharmacokinetics after intravenous (i.v.) or intragastric (i.g.) administration in rats. After i. v. bolus at three dosage levels (0.5, 1, and 2 mg/kg), N- Demethylsinomenine showed the profiles of rapid elimination with mean half-life (T1/2Z) of 1.55–1.73 h, and extensive tissue distribution with volume of distribution (VZ) of 5.62–8.07 L/kg. After i. g. administration at three dosage levels (10, 20, and 40 mg/kg), N- Demethylsinomenine showed the consistent peak time (Tmax) of 3 h and the mean absolute bioavailability of N- Demethylsinomenine was 30.46%. These pharmacokinetics findings will aid in future drug development decisions of N- Demethylsinomenine as a potential candidate for pain analgesia.

Objectives: Dimeric pyruvate kinase (PK) M2 (PKM2) plays an important role in promoting the accumulation of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α, mediating aberrant glycolysis and inducing fibrosis in diabetic kidney disease (DKD). The aim of this work was to dissect a novel regulatory mechanism of Yin and Yang 1 (YY1) on lncRNA-ARAP1-AS2/ARAP1 to regulate EGFR/PKM2/HIF-1α pathway and glycolysis in DKD.Materials and methods: We used adeno-associated virus (AAV)-ARAP1 shRNA to knocked down ARAP1 in diabetic mice and overexpressed or knocked down YY1, ARAP1-AS2 and ARAP1 expression in human glomerular mesangial cells. Gene levels were assessed by Western blotting, RT-qPCR, immunofluorescence staining and immunohistochemistry. Molecular interactions were determined by RNA pull-down, co-immunoprecipitation, ubiquitination assay and dual-luciferase reporter analysis.Results: YY1, ARAP1-AS2, ARAP1, HIF-1α, glycolysis and fibrosis genes expressions were upregulated and ARAP1 knockdown could inhibit dimeric PKM2 expression and partly restore tetrameric PKM2 formation, while downregulate HIF-1α accumulation and aberrant glycolysis and fibrosis in in-vivo and in-vitro DKD models. ARAP1 knockdown attenuates renal injury and renal dysfunction in diabetic mice. ARAP1 maintains EGFR overactivation in-vivo and in-vitro DKD models. Mechanistically, YY1 transcriptionally upregulates ARAP1-AS2 and indirectly regulates ARAP1 and subsequently promotes EGFR activation, HIF-1α accumulation and aberrant glycolysis and fibrosis.Conclusion: Our results first highlight the role of the novel regulatory mechanism of YY1 on ARAP1-AS2 and ARAP1 in promoting aberrant glycolysis and fibrosis by EGFR/PKM2/HIF-1α pathway in DKD and provide potential therapeutic strategies for DKD treatments.

BackgroundThe human leukocyte antigen (HLA) susceptibility gene is the main genetic risk factor for primary biliary cholangitis (PBC). The prognosis of patients with PBC is linked to gut microbiota dysbiosis. However, whether the HLA alleles are associated with the gut microbiota distribution and disease severity remains unknown.MethodsA cohort of 964 Chinese patients with PBC was enrolled at Beijing YouAn Hospital, Beijing, China. High-resolution genotyping of the HLA class I and class II loci from 151 of these patients was performed using sequence-based PCR. Stool samples were collected from 43 of the 151 fully HLA-typed patients to analyze their microbiota compositions via 16S RNA gene sequencing.ResultsOf the 964 patients, the male:female ratio was 114:850, and 342 of these patients (35.5%) had already developed liver cirrhosis (LC) before enrollment. Patients with PBC showed a significantly higher frequency of HLA DRB1*08:03 than did the controls (21.2% vs. 9.0%, P=0.0001). HLA-DRB1*03:01, DRB1*07:01, DRB1*14:05, and DRB1*14:54 frequencies were also increased but did not reach significance after Bonferroni’s correction. Conversely, the DQB1*03:01 frequency was significantly lower in patients with PBC than in the controls (24.5% vs. 39.2%, P=0.0010). The patients’ gut microbiota were analyzed from four perspectives. AIM: To evaluate the global trends in and explore hotspots of high myopia (HM) research. METHODS: This bibliometric analysis was used to reveal the publication trends in HM research field based on the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). VOSviewer version 1.6.13 software was used to analyze the data and construct a knowledge map including the yearly publication number, journals, countries, international collaborations, authors, research hotspots, and intellectual base in HM. RESULTS: The search engine found 3544 peer-reviewed publications on HM between 2010 and 2019, and the yearly research output substantially elevated over the past decade. China is the top publishing country, and Sun Yat-sen University was the most active academic institution. Jonas JB is the top publishing scientist, and Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science (IOVS) was the most productive journal. The highest cited references mainly focused on epidemiology and management. The keywords formed 6 clusters: 1) refractive surgery; 2) etiology and clinical characteristics; 3) the mechanism of eye growth; 4) management for myopic maculopathy; 5) vitrectomy surgical treatment; 6) myopia-associated glaucoma-like optic neuropathy. CONCLUSION: The evaluation of development trends based on the data extracted from WoSCC can provide valuable information and guidance for ophthalmologists and public health researchers to improve management procedures in HM field.

Objective: Cervical cancer (CC) ranks fourth most diagnosed cancer and cancer mortality in women. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) take important roles in CC development. This study aimed to identify more and novel competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) mechanisms of lncRNAs in CC. Materials and methods: The miRNA expression dataset GSE20592 and lncRNA/mRNA expression dataset GSE63514 were downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs), differentially expressed lncRNAs (DElncRNAs), and differentially expressed miRNAs (DEmiRNAs) between CC tumor and normal samples were identified with the criteria of adj.P.Value 2. Functional enrichment analysis was performed for DEGs. The interaction pairs among lncRNAs, miRNAs and mRNAs were predicted and the ceRNA network was then constructed. Survival analysis was performed based on the TCGA dataset. Results: Totally, 42 DEmiRNAs, 25 DElncRNAs, and 518 DEGs were identified in CC tumor samples versus normal tissues. The DEGs were associated with ‘GO:0006260: DNA replication’, ‘GO:0051301: cell division’, and ‘hsa01100:Metabolic pathways’. The ceRNA network consisted of 878 lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA pairs. Of the miRNAs, lncRNAs, and genes with the top 10 interaction degrees in the ceRNA network, the upregulated cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor 2A gene (CDKN2A) was targeted by the downregulated DEmiRNAs including hsa-miR-125b-5p and hsa-miR-125a-5p, which were targeted by the upregulated DElncRNA BBOX1-AS1. The high expression level of CDKN2A contributed to the poor overall survival of patients with CC. Conclusions: The BBOX1-AS1-hsa-miR-125b-5p/hsa-miR-125a-5p-CDKN2A ceRNA network is of great value in CC development.

With the rapid development of single molecular sequencing (SMS) technologies such as PacBio single-molecule real-time and Oxford Nanopore sequencing, the output read length is continuously increasing, which has dramatical potentials on cutting-edge genomic applications. Mapping these reads to a reference genome is often the most fundamental and computing-intensive step for downstream analysis. However, these long reads contain higher sequencing errors and could more frequently span the breakpoints of structural variants (SVs) than those of shorter reads, leading to many unaligned reads or reads that are partially aligned for most state-of-the-art mappers. As a result, these methods usually focus on producing local mapping results for the query read rather than obtaining the whole end-to-end alignment. We introduce kngMap, a novel k-mer neighborhood graph-based mapper that is specifically designed to align long noisy SMS reads to a reference sequence. By benchmarking exhaustive experiments on both simulated and real-life SMS datasets to assess the performance of kngMap with ten other popular SMS mapping tools (e.g., BLASR, BWA-MEM, and minimap2), we demonstrated that kngMap has higher sensitivity that can align more reads and bases to the reference genome; meanwhile, kngMap can produce consecutive alignments for the whole read and span different categories of SVs in the reads. kngMap is implemented in C++ and supports multi-threading; the source code of kngMap can be downloaded for free at: https://github.com/zhang134/kngMap for academic usage.

Abstract Background Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) alleles are implicated in drug-induced hypersensitivity, including by nevirapine and abacavir. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the relationship between HLA polymorphisms and hypersensitivity to antiretroviral therapy in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients. Methods We conducted a systematic search of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library for studies that evaluated the associations of HLA polymorphisms with antiretroviral therapy-induced hypersensitivity published in April 2019. The summary odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were considered as estimates of the effect. Results The meta-analysis included 17 studies that assessed a total of 4273 patients. First, carriers of HLA-A *24 were associated with an increased risk of hypersensitivity among patients with HIV who received antiretroviral therapy (OR: 12.12; P = 0.018). Second, five SNPs of HLA-B genotypes, including *18 (OR: 1.63; P = 0.028), *35 (OR: 2.31; P = 0.002), *39 (OR: 11.85; P = 0.040), *51 (OR: 1.66; P = 0.028), and *81 (OR: 8.11; P = 0.021), were associated with an increased risk of hypersensitivity. With the advent of next-generation sequencing technology, it has become convenient and cost efficient to thoroughly characterize the microbial diversity and taxonomic composition in various environmental samples. Millions of sequencing data can be generated, and how to utilize this enormous sequence resource has become a critical concern for microbial ecologists. One particular challenge is the OTUs (operational taxonomic units) picking in 16S rRNA sequence analysis. Lucky, this challenge can be directly addressed by sequence clustering that attempts to group similar sequences. Therefore, numerous clustering methods have been proposed to help to cluster 16S rRNA sequences into OTUs. However, each method has its clustering mechanism, and different methods produce diverse outputs. Even a slight parameter change for the same method can also generate distinct results, and how to choose an appropriate method has become a challenge for inexperienced users. A lot of time and resources can be wasted in selecting clustering tools and analyzing the clustering results. In this study, we introduced the recent advance of clustering methods for OTUs picking, which mainly focus on three aspects: (i) the principles of existing clustering algorithms, (ii) benchmark dataset construction for OTU picking and evaluation metrics, and (iii) the performance of different methods with various distance thresholds on benchmark datasets. This paper aims to assist biological researchers to select the reasonable clustering methods for analyzing their collected sequences and help algorithm developers to design more efficient sequences clustering methods.

In this study, ultrasonic-assisted cellulase extraction (UCE) was applied to extract flavonoids and polyphenols from the Nymphaea hybrid flower. The extraction conditions were optimized using the response surface method (RSM) coupled with a Box-Behnken design. The crude extract of Nymphaea hybrid (NHE) was further purified using AB-8 macroporous resins, and the purified extract (NHEP) was characterized by FTIR and HPLC. In vitro activity determination by chemical method showed that NHEP displayed strong free radical scavenging abilities against the DPPH and ABTS radicals, good reduction power, and hyaluronidase inhibition. The cell viability by CCK-8 assays showed that NHEP had no significant cytotoxicity for B16 and HaCaT cells when the concentration was below 100 μg/mL and 120 μg/mL, respectively. NHEP with a concentration of 20–160 μg/mL can more effectively reduce the ROS level in H2O2 damaged HaCaT cells compared with 10 μg/mL of VC. The 40 μg/mL of NHEP had similar activity against intracellular melanin production in the B16 melanoma cells compared with 20 μg/mL Kojic acid. Good activities of antioxidation, whitening and protective effect against H2O2-induced oxidative damage promote the potential for NHEP as a functional raw material in the field of cosmetics and medicine.

Abstract Background The clinical outcome varies considerably in primary membranous nephropathy (pMN). Risk factors for kidney prognosis include ageing, male gender, persistent heavy proteinuria, decreased eGFR at presentation, persistent elevation of anti-PLA2R antibodies, no remission, and so on. It was controversial whether the histopathological features of pMN could predict treatment response and kidney outcome. Methods A retrospective study was conducted in 371 patients with biopsy-proven pMN. Pathological parameters included immunofluorescence staining, membranous Churg’s stages, sclerosis, crescent, focal segmental sclerosis lesion, chronic and acute tubulointerstitial injury. The fluorescence intensity was determined: 0, negative; 1, weak; 2, moderate; 3, strong; 4, glaring. Chronic tubulointerstitial injury was graded by the involved area: 0, 0–5%; 1, 6–25%; 2, 26–50%; 3, > 50%. Results We found that patients with higher intensity of C3 staining, advanced membranous stage, and more severe chronic tubulointerstitial injury presented with higher positivity rate of anti-PLA2R antibodies, higher levels of urinary protein excretion and serum creatinine, and lower level of serum albumin. Univariate Cox regression analysis showed that severe (grade = 3) chronic tubulointerstitial injury was a risk factor to the kidney outcome of ESKD (HR = 61.02, 95%CI, 7.75–480.57, P 0.05). Conclusions We found the prognostic role of chronic tubulointerstitial injury to the kidney outcome of pMN. This study highlighted the value of kidney biopsy under the widespread usage of anti-PLA2R antibodies for diagnosis and prognosis.

Abstract Wireless sensor network (WSN) in the Internet of Things consists of a large number of nodes. The proposal of compressive sensing technology provides a novel way for data aggregation in WSN. Based on the clustering structure of WSN, a kind of effective data aggregating method based on compressive sensing is proposed in this paper. The aggregating process is divided into two parts: in the cluster, the sink node sets the corresponding seed vector based on the distribution of network and then sends it to each cluster head. Cluster head can generate corresponding own random spacing sparse matrix based on its received seed vector and collect data through compressive sensing technology. Among clusters, clusters forward measurement values to the sink node along multi-hop routing tree. Performance analysis and comparison with the relative methods show that our method is effective and superior to other methods regardless of intra-cluster or inter-cluster on the total energy consumption of network.

Acanthopanax henryi (Oliv.) Harms (Araliaceae), also known as Eleutherococcus henryi and Caoyewujia (Hengliwujia) in Chinese, is a widely used traditional Chinese herb with the effects of expelling wind and removing dampness, relaxing the muscles and stimulating the blood circulation, and regulating the flow of qi to alleviate pain in the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Acanthopanax henryi (AH, thereafter) possesses ginseng-like activities and is known as ginseng-like herb. In the past decade, a great number of phytochemical and pharmacological studies on AH have been carried out. Several kinds of chemical compositions have been reported, including terpenoids (monoterpenoids, diterpenoids, and triterpenoid saponins), phenylpropanoids, caffeoyl quinic acid derivatives, flavonoids, lignans, sterols, fatty acids, etc., among which, triterpenoid saponins were considered to be the most active components. Considerable pharmacological experiments in vitro have demonstrated that AH possessed anti-neuroinflammatory, anti-adipogenic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-cancer, anti-oxidation, anti-AChE, anti-BuChE, and antihyaluronidase activities. The present review is an up-to-date and comprehensive analysis of the botany, phytochemistry, and pharmacology of AH.

The membrane-cytoskeleton link organizer ezrin may be the most "dramatic" tumor marker, being strongly over-expressed in nearly one-third of human malignancies. However, the molecular mechanisms of aberrant ezrin expression still need to be clarified. Ezrin, encoded by the VIL2 gene, has two transcript variants that differ in the transcriptional start site (TSS): V1 and V2. Both V1 and V2 encode the same protein. Here, we found that 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) induced over-expression of human VIL2 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cells. Furthermore, VIL2 V1 but not V2 was up-regulated after TPA stimulation in a time-dependent manner. AP-1 and Sp1 binding sites within the promoter region of VIL2 V1 acted not only as basal transcriptional elements but also as a composite TPA-responsive element (TRE) for the transcription of VIL2 V1. TPA stimulation enhanced c-Jun and Sp1 binding to the TRE via activation of the ERK1/2 pathway and increased protein levels of c-Jun, c-Fos, and Sp1, resulting in over-expression of VIL2 V1, whereas the MEK1/2 inhibitor U0126 blocked these events. Finally, we showed that TPA promoted the migration of ESCC cells whereas MEK1/2 inhibitor or ezrin silencing could partially inverse this alteration. Taken together, these results suggest that TPA is able to induce VIL2 V1 over-expression in ESCC cells by activating MEK/ERK1/2 signaling and increasing binding of Sp1 and c-Jun to the TRE of the VIL2 V1 promoter, and that VIL2 is an important TPA-induced effector.

AIM: To explore the clinical application effect of phacofragmentation combined with vitrectomy in the treatment of traumatic lens dislocation. METHODS: Totally 16 cases(16 eyes)of traumatic lens dislocation treated with phacofragmentation combined with vitrectomy were retrospectively analyzed, including 6 cases of high intraocular pressure(IOP)and 10 cases of vitreous hemorrhage, and 1 case of retinal detachment. All patients were given conventional flat line standard three channel vitreous operation incision to remove the anterior, middle part and peripheral vitreous around lens dislocation. The crystalline lens were drawn to the center cavity of vitreous body and treated by ultrasonic disintegrator. In the operation, the retina was examined and 8 of them had no retinal damage and in the first stage underwent fixation of posterior chamber intraocular lenses.RESULTS: All crystalline lens dislocated were completely grinded and suctioned. There was no retinal detachment occurred in 3mo followed up. 16 eyes had normal IOP(12-20mmHg)at 1wk after operation. The average visual acuity was improved and with 8 cases got improved of 0.2 or more 1wk after operation. CONCLUSION: Our research shows that phacofragmentation combined with vitrectomy is a safe and effective method for the treatment of traumatic lens dislocation. The patients with nondestructive retina in the operation are feasible to do first stage operation of intraocular lens suture fixation, which contributes to the best visual acuity.

AIM: To retrospectively evaluate the effect of lens extraction combined with vitrectomy to treat traumatic lens dislocation with secondary glaucoma.METHODS:Thirty-one eyes(31 cases)of lens dislocation caused by blunt trauma with secondary glaucoma were treated respectively with cataract extraction combined with anterior vitrectomy, trabeculectomy and intraocular lens implantation. The visual acuity and pressure were observed 1wk, 1 and 3mo after operative. RESULTS:Thirty-one eyes were all complete the operation successfully, and 6 eyes were given combined trabeculectomy, 9 eyes were implanted anterior chamber intraocular lens implantation(IOL)and 15 eyes were given posterior chamber suture fixation. Sixteen eyes were implanted in one-stage operation, while 8 eyes were implanted in two-stage operation. All intraocular pressure(IOP)were controlled to the normal level after operation and 23 eyes had visual acuity of more than 0.3.CONCLUSION:Lens extraction combined with vitrectomy is an effective method for treatment of lens dislocation with secondary glaucoma. In order to control the IOP and get well visual function, we should choose IOL implantation or trabeculectomy according to the patient's condition.
