Using casein-assembled nanostructures as crosslinkers, we developed hydrogels with remarkable mechanical performances, excellent adhesive, biocompatible and self-healing properties, demonstrating their potential applications as flexible sensors.

Edge-labeled graph (ELG) is an important abstract model of many practical applications, in which each edge is associated with one or more labels. Searching the minimum label spanning tree (MLST) of ELG is an important issue and proved NP-hard. In the last decade, researchers have put forward some algorithms, however, high computational cost and lower searching effectiveness are still the main obstacles, especially for large-size graphs. In this paper, we propose a heuristic to solve the strong generalized MLST problem (SGMLSTP). We decompose the SGMLSTP into two sub-problems, one is to search a sub-graph containing one or more spanning trees with the minimum labels from the original graph, and another is to search a spanning tree from the acquired sub-graph. As the latter sub-problem is already solved effectively, we focus on the former sub-problem and propose a community-based zigzag piloting algorithm: Firstly a weighted label graph is derived from the edge-labeled graph; then the label graph is partitioned and label communities are chosen in combination to form the initial solutions; finally, the zigzag piloting process is applied to make the initial solutions feasible and refined, of which the optimum one has the least labels. Label partition largely reduces the computation cost of searching the initial solutions, the zigzag piloting process help increase searching effectiveness, and experimental results on typical benchmark datasets fully verify this point and show better effectiveness and performance than that of the state-of-the-art algorithms.

Background Recently, the role of several microRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) in pulmonary diseases has been described. The molecular mechanisms by which miR-214 is possibly implicated in bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) have not yet been addressed. Hence, this study aimed to investigate a putative role of miR-214 in alveolarization among preterm neonates with BPD. Methods Microarray-based gene expression profiling data from BPD was employed to identify differentially expressed genes. A BPD neonatal rat model was induced by hyperoxia. Pulmonary epithelial cells were isolated from rats and exposed to hyperoxia to establish cell injury models. Gain- and loss-of-function experiments were performed in BPD neonatal rats and hyperoxic pulmonary epithelial cells. MiR-214 and PlGF expression in BPD neonatal rats, and eNOS, Bcl-2, c-myc, Survivin, α-SMA and E-cadherin expression in hyperoxic pulmonary epithelial cells were measured using RT-qPCR and Western blot analysis. The interaction between PlGF and miR-214 was identified using dual luciferase reporter gene and RIP assays. IL-1β, TNF-a, IL-6, ICAM-1 and Flt-1 expression in the rat models was measured using ELISA. Results The lung tissues of neonatal rats with BPD showed decreased miR-214 expression with elevated PlGF expression. PlGF was found to be a target of miR-214, whereby miR-214 downregulated PlGF to inactivate the STAT3 pathway. miR-214 overexpression or PlGF silencing decreased the apoptosis of hyperoxic pulmonary epithelial cells in vitro and restored alveolarization in BPD neonatal rats. Conclusion Overall, the results demonstrated that miR-214 could facilitate alveolarization in preterm neonates with BPD by suppressing the PlGF-dependent STAT3 pathway.

As a component of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) “writers,” KIAA1429 was reported to promote breast cancer proliferation and growth in m6A-independent manners. However, the related mechanism of KIAA1429 in breast cancer metastasis has not been reported. In the present study, we found KIAA1429 could significantly promote the migration and invasion of breast cancer cells. Then we demonstrated that knockdown of KIAA1429 could impede breast cancer metastasis in nude mice in vivo. The level of SNAIL expression and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) progress was positively related with KIAA1429. Furthermore, we confirmed that the suppression of cell migration, invasion, and EMT progress by knockdown of KIAA1429 could be reversed by the upregulation of SNAIL. However, structural maintenance of chromosomes 1A (SMC1A), not KIAA1429, bound with the SNAIL promoter region directly and promoted the transcription of SNAIL. Then we confirmed that KIAA1429 could bind to the motif in the 3′ UTR of SMC1A mRNA directly and enhance SMC1A mRNA stability. In conclusion, our study revealed a novel mechanism of the KIAA1429/SMC1A/SNAIL axis in the regulation of metastasis of breast cancer. Moreover, it first provided detailed investigation of how KIAA1429 regulated the targeted gene expression at posttranscriptional levels as an RNA binding protein unrelated to its m6A modification., Graphical abstract, We provided a novel mechanism of the KIAA1429/SMC1A/SNAIL axis in the regulation of breast cancer invasion and metastasis, which may be a promising therapeutic target for human breast cancer.

A new species, Physalidiella pentagona, collected on dead twigs of Lindera communis in Guizhou Province, China, is described and illustrated. The fungus is mainly characterized by differentiated conidiophores with opposite or verticillate short branches and monoblastic, percurrently extending conidiogenous cells that produce solitary, smooth, quasi-stellate or T-shaped conidia with an approximately pentagonal central cell and two smaller hemispherical lateral cells. A dichotomous key to Physalidiella species is provided.

Two commonly observed charge transport mechanisms in single-molecule junctions are coherent tunneling and incoherent hopping. It has been generally believed that tunneling processes yield temperature-independent conductance behavior and hopping processes exhibit increasing conductance with increasing temperature. However, it has recently been proposed that tunneling can also yield temperature-dependent transport due to the thermal broadening of the Fermi energy of the contacts. In this work, we examine a series of rigid, planar furan oligomers that are free from a rotational internal degree of freedom to examine the temperature dependence of tunneling transport directly over a wide temperature range (78-300 K). Our results demonstrate conductance transition from a temperature-independent regime to a temperature-dependent regime. By examining various hopping and tunneling models and the correlation between the temperature dependence of conductance and molecular orbital energy offset from the Fermi level, we conclude thermally assisted tunneling is the dominant cause for the onset of temperature-dependent conductance in these systems.

The lotus leaf surface is modified by covering nanofibers to check its wetting property. The well-known lotus effect of the modified surface is greatly weakened, and a hydrophilic property is found. The geometric potential theory is used to ex-plain the phenomenon, it shows that the two adjacent nanofibers can produce a high geometric potential to push water molecules to move along the fibers, as a result, a hydrophilic surface is predicted after surface modification. An experiment is designed to elucidate the main factors affecting the wetting property of the modified surface of lotus leaf.

As a pentacyclic triterpene in Centella asiatica, asiatic acid (AA) is a powerful antioxidant with many bioactivities. In the present research, we investigated whether AA has the potential to rescue the decrease in porcine oocyte quality that occurs during in vitro aging (IVA). Mature porcine oocytes were collected and then continuously cultured for an additional 24 h or 48 h with or without AA in maturation medium as an IVA model. The results revealed that AA supplementation reduced the percentage of abnormal aged porcine oocytes during IVA. Furthermore, AA supplementation effectively maintained aged porcine oocyte developmental competence, both parthenogenetic activation and in vitro fertilization. The number of sperm that bound to the zona pellucida on aged porcine oocytes was higher in the AA-supplemented group than in the non-supplemented group. Moreover, AA supplementation not only blocked IVA-induced oxidative stress but also maintained intracellular GSH levels and reduced the percentage of early apoptosis aged porcine oocytes. Mitochondrial functions were disordered during the IVA process. The intracellular ATP levels and mitochondrial membrane potential in aged porcine oocytes were dramatically increased by AA supplementation. Therefore, AA has beneficial effects on porcine oocyte quality and developmental potential maintenance during IVA.

The present study analyzed the relationship between bovine oocytes developmental competence and mRNA expression of apoptotic and mitochondrial genes following the change of vitrification temperatures (VTs) and cryoprotectant agent concentrations (CPAs). Cumulus oocyte complexes were randomly divided into five groups: control, vitrified in liquid nitrogen (LN; -196 °C) with 5.6 M CPAs (LN 5.6 M), LN with 6.6 M CPAs (LN 6.6 M), liquid helium (LHe; -269 °C) with 5.6 M CPAs (LHe 5.6 M), and LHe with 6.6 M CPAs (LHe 6.6 M). After vitrification and warming, oocytes of vitrified and control groups were subjected to in vitro maturation (IVM), in vitro fertilization and in vitro culture. The blastocyst rate in LHe 5.6 M group was the highest among the four vitrified groups (13.7% vs. 9.4%, 1.3%, and 8.4%; P 0.05). The mRNA expression level of 8 apoptotic- and 12 mitochondria-related genes were detected through qRT-PCR after IVM. Lower VT (LHe, -269 °C) positively affected the mRNA expression levels of apoptotic genes (BAD, BID, BTK, TP53, and TP53I3) and mitochondrial genes (COX6B1, DERA, FIS1, NDUFA1, NDUFA4, PRDX2, SLC25A5, TFB1M, and UQCRB), and reduced oxidative stress from freezing. Decreased CPAs (5.6 M) positively affected mRNA expression levels of apoptotic genes (BAD, BCL2A1, BID, and CASP3) in LHe vitrification but negatively affected apoptotic genes (BAD, BAX, BID, BTK, and BCL2A1) in LN vitrification. In conclusion, decreased VTs and CPAs in LHe vitrification may increase the blastocyst rate by changing the mRNA expression levels of these apoptotic and mitochondrial genes for the vitrified oocytes.

Floral traits are recognized to have evolved under selection for abiotic and biotic factors. Complex zygomorphic flowers usually face horizontally. It has been proved that a horizontal orientation facilitates pollinator recognition and pollination efficiency, but its significance in adaptation to abiotic factors remains unknown. The floral orientation of Abelia × grandiflora naturally varies around horizontal (with an angle of -30 to +33° between the floral main axis and the horizontal). We examined whether three different floral orientations affected flower thermal conditions, response to rain and pollination. Results showed that floral orientation had no effect on diurnal variations in flower temperature. The anthers of all three flower orientations were wetted by rainfall, but the inclined upward-facing flowers contained significantly more rainwater. The horizontal flowers received significantly higher visitation by hawkmoths and had a higher stigmatic pollen load. In contrast, the upward flower orientation reduced pollination precision, while downward-facing flowers had decreased pollinator attraction. This study indicates that horizontal flowers may have evolved as a trade-off between rain protection and pollination. Zygomorphic flowers that deviate from a horizontal orientation may have lower fitness because of flower flooding by rainwater and decreased pollen transfer.

Background The incidence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a chronic lung disease of newborns, has been paradoxically rising despite medical advances. Histone deacetylase 3 (Hdac3) has been reported to be a crucial regulator in alveologenesis. Hence, this study aims to investigate the mechanism of Hdac3 in the abnormal pulmonary angiogenesis and alveolarization of BPD. Methods A hyperoxia-induced BPD model of was developed in newborn mice, and primary lung fibroblasts were isolated from adult mice. Hdac3 was knocked out in vivo and knocked down in vitro, while microRNA (miR)-17 was downregulated in vivo and in vitro to clarify their roles in abnormal pulmonary angiogenesis and alveolarization. Mechanistic investigations were performed on the interplay of Hdac3, miR-17-92 cluster, enhancer of zeste homolog 1 (EZH1), p65 and placental growth factor (Pgf). Results Hdac3 was involved in abnormal alveolarization and angiogenesis in BPD mice. Further, the expression of the miR-17-92 cluster in BPD mice was downregulated by Hdac3. miR-17 was found to target EZH1, and Hdac3 rescued the inhibited EZH1 expression by miR-17 in lung fibroblasts. Additionally, EZH1 augmented Pgf expression by recruiting p65 thus enhancing the progression of BPD. Hdac3 augmented the recruitment of p65 in the Pgf promoter region through the miR-17/EZH1 axis, thus enhancing the transcription and expression of Pgf, which elicited abnormal angiogenesis and alveolarization of BPD mice. Conclusions Altogether, the present study revealed that Hdac3 activated the EZH1-p65-Pgf axis through inhibiting miR-17 in the miR-17-92 cluster, leading to accelerated abnormal pulmonary angiogenesis and alveolarization of BPD mice.

Two thin-film 2D organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites, i.e., 2-phenylethylammonium lead iodide (PEPI) and 4-phenyl-1-butylammonium lead iodide (PBPI) were synthesized and investigated by steady-state absorption, temperature-dependent photoluminescence, and temperature-dependent ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy. PBPI has a longer organic chain (via introducing extra ethyl groups) than PEPI, thus its inorganic skeleton can be distorted, bringing on structural disorder. The comparative analyses of spectral profiles and temporal dynamics revealed that the greater structural disorder in PBPI results in more defect states serving as trap states to promote exciton dynamics. In addition, the fine-structuring of excitonic resonances was unveiled by temperature-dependent ultrafast spectroscopy, suggesting its correlation with inorganic skeleton rather than organic chain. Moreover, the photoexcited coherent phonons were observed in both PEPI and PBPI, pointing to a subtle impact of structural disorder on the low-frequency Raman-active vibrations of inorganic skeleton. This work provides valuable insights into the optical properties, excitonic behaviors and dynamics, as well as coherent phonon effects in 2D hybrid perovskites.

Background::In recent years, visual quality has been extensively investigated in various conditions. In this community-based population study, we analyzed the effects of aging, refraction, and Lens Opacification Classification System III (LOCSIII) score on retinal imaging quality in healthy Chinese adults.Methods::This cross-sectional study was conducted on sub-group subjects from The Handan Eye Study between October 2012 and January 2013. Healthy subjects over 30-years-old with logarithm of the minimal angle of resolution (logMAR) best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) less than 0 were included. Retinal image quality was measured by optical quality analysis system (OQAS) and recorded as modulation transfer function cutoff frequency (MTF cutoff), OQAS value (OV) 100%, OV20%, OV9%, Strehl ratio (SR), and objective scatter index (OSI). The correlation between age, spherical equivalent refraction (SE), LOCSIII score, and optical quality parameters were investigated by multivariate analysis. Results::Among 1108 verified subjects, 690 subjects (1380 eyes) met the inclusion criteria. Their age ranged from 30 to 76 years, SE ranged from -4.75 to 2.75 D. They were divided into five age groups (30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and ≥70 years) for further analysis. After multivariate analysis by mixed-effect linear model, SR ( t = -3.03, P = 0.002), OV20% ( t = -2.39, P = 0.017), and OV9% ( t = -3.16, P = 0.001) significantly decreased with the increasing age, whereas logMAR BCVA ( t = 4.42, P < 0.001) and OSI ( t = 4.46, P < 0.001) significantly increased with age. As SE increased, SR ( t = 2.74, P = 0.01), OV20% ( t = 2.31, P = 0.02), and OV9% ( t = 2.79, P = 0.005) significantly elevated, and OSI ( t = -3.38, P < 0.001) significantly decreased. With the increase in cortical opacity score, all optical quality parameters except for SR significantly decreased, including MTF cutoff ( t = -2.78, P = 0.01), OV100% ( t = -2.78, P = 0.005), OV20% ( t = -2.60, P = 0.009), and OV9% ( t = -2.05, P = 0.04). As posterior sub capsular opacity score increased, MTF cutoff ( t = -2.40, P = 0.02) and OV100% ( t = -2.40, P = 0.01) significantly decreased, while OSI ( t = 7.56, P < 0.001) significantly increased. Conclusions::In healthy Chinese adult population, optical quality-related parameters significantly decrease with the increasing age, and OSI significantly increases with age. In normal BCVA subjects, optical quality is significantly impacted by cortical and posterior sub capsular opacity rather than by nuclear opacity.

Traditional silicon-based photodetectors are limited by the band gap of silicon, which results in a limited working wavelength range. In this report, due to the excellent properties of Indium Antimonide, the InSb/Si heterojunction photodetectors are fabricated. Under ambient temperature of 280K, as-prepared photodetectors show a specific detectivity of 9.31011 cm Hz1/2/W, responsivity of 54 mA/W, on/off ratio of 5104 under the laser irradiation of 635 nm. In order to explore the influence of working temperature on device performance, the photoresponse at different temperatures was tested. This report proved that as the working temperature increases, the responsivity and specific detectivity of the device decrease, and the performance of the device becomes worse.

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of vitrification temperature (VT) and cryoprotective agent concentrations (CPAs) on the mRNA transcriptome of bovine mature oocytes after vitrifying at immature stage. Cumulus oocyte complexes (COCs) were randomly divided into the following five groups: fresh oocytes (control), oocytes vitrified in liquid helium (LHe; -269 °C) with 5.6 M CPAs (LHe 5.6 M), oocytes vitrified in LHe with 6.6 M CPAs (LHe 6.6 M), oocytes vitrified in liquid nitrogen (LN; -196 °C) with 5.6 M CPAs (LN 5.6 M), and oocytes vitrified in LN with 6.6 M CPAs (LN 6.6 M). We performed two experiments in this study. In experiment 1, after vitrification and thawing, oocytes of vitrified and control groups were subjected to in vitro maturation (IVM), in vitro fertilization (IVF) and in vitro culture (IVC). The rates of normal morphology, maturation, cleavage, and blastocyst formation in LHe 5.6 M were higher than those in LN 5.6 M (P 0.05). The rates of normal morphology and cleavage in LHe 6.6 M were higher than those in LN 6.6 M (P 0.05). However, the maturation and blastocyst rates were similar (P 0.05) between LHe 6.6 M and LN 6.6 M. The blastocyst rate of 13.31% in LHe 5.6 M was the highest among all vitrified groups (P 0.05). In experiment 2, the mRNA transcriptome of each sample was analyzed by Smart-Seq4, and the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were detected by edgeR (P ≤ 0.05; fold-change ≥ 2). A total of 505 DEGs (342 upregulated and 163 downregulated genes) were detected in LHe 5.6 M; 609 DEGs (493 upregulated and 116 downregulated genes) were detected in LHe 6.6 M; 218 DEGs (101 upregulated and 117 downregulated genes) were determined in LN 5.6 M; and 221 DEGs (104 upregulated and 117 downregulated genes) were detected in LN 6.6 M. LHe vitrification affected the mRNA transcriptome of bovine mature oocytes after vitrifying at immature stage mainly by upregulating gene expression. Decreased CPAs (5.6 M) reduced the effect of vitrification on mRNA transcriptome when LHe vitrification was used. Among the DEGs closely related to bovine oocytes, the genes possibly related to VT were ND2, MPV17L2, PIF1, LPIN1, IMP3, BRD1, DCTN3, DERA, ATP7B, NEK5, HVCN1, and MARK2. The gene that may be associated with CPAs is CC2D2A. Genes that may be affected by VT and CPAs included PGK1, SLC7A3, FITM2, NPM3, ISCU, CWC15, and PSAP.

ZnO:S quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized by a microwave hydrothermal method. The effects of L-cysteine (L-cys) on the crystal structure, size, morphology, band gap energy and photoluminescence (PL) properties were studied by XRD, EDS, TEM, FTIR, DRS and PL spectroscopy, respectively. The XRD results showed that all samples had a wurtzite structure ZnO crystal structure and the average crystallite size was 8.4, 5.8, and 9.2 nm for ZnO, ZnO:S and L-cys capped ZnO:S (LZOS) QDs, respectively. The EDS, HRTEM and FTIR results confirmed L-cys was capped on the surface of ZnO:S QDs. It was found that the band gap energy was 3.25, 3.29 and 3.31 eV for ZnO, ZnO:S and LZOS QDs, successively. PL spectrum of ZnO QDs showed two emission peaks in the UV and visible region, respectively. When doping S into ZnO, the intensity of the UV emission reduced, while the intensity of the visible emission dramatically increased. Also, L-cys coated obviously enhanced the PL intensity of ZnO:S QDs. This work suggested that LZOS QDs could be applied in luminescent devices.

Background: The patented bubble electrospinning, which is a simple and effective technique for mass-production of polymer nanofibers, has been studying extensively, but it is still under development. In the bubble electrospinning, multiple jets move from the positive electrode to the receptor, a long distance between the two electrodes is needed to guarantee complete solvent evaporation, as a result a relative high voltage is needed. Objective: The aim of the present study is to use an auxiliary electrode and an auxiliary air flow to improve bubble electrospinning with lower voltage and higher output than those by its traditional one. Methods: The modification of the bubble electrospinning with an auxiliary electrode and an auxiliary airflow is used to fabricate nanofibers. The auxiliary electrode is close to the positive electrode. The experiment was carried out at room temperature with 8%PVA solution. The result was analyzed with a S4800 cold field scanning electron microscope (SEM, Hitachi S-4800, Tokyo, Japan). Results: The auxiliary electrode can generate a strong induced electric field force. With the action of airflow, the jets will fly to the receptor instead of the auxiliary electrode. Conclusion: Both auxiliary electrode and auxiliary airflow are two important factors affecting the spinning process. It can reduce the spinning voltage and improve spinning efficiency.

PurposeBy reporting clinical characteristics and retinal image quality before and after refractive lens replacement surgery in early-onset high myopia (eoHM) patients presenting with partial cataract, we emphasized the need for an objective way to grade the severity of partial cataracts.MethodsThis retrospective, consecutive case series included six Chinese patients (nine eyes). Analysis of previous medical records, visual acuity, optometry, retinal image quality, and axial length (AXL) before surgery and after surgery was performed.ResultsFive females and one male (nine eyes) with a mean (± SD) age of 11.6 ± 7.9 years (range: 4–25 years) were included in this study. The preoperative spherical power ranged from −7.5 to −42 D. The mean follow-up time was 36 months (range: 24–48 months). Phacoemulsification was followed by in-the-bag implantation of intraocular lens. For patients who were under 6 years old, posterior capsulotomy + anterior vitrectomy were performed simultaneously. All surgeries were uneventful and no postoperative complications occurred during the entire follow-up period. All patients’ uncorrected visual acuity improved by ≥2 lines postoperatively(Snellen acuity). LogMAR best-corrected visual acuity was improved at 24-month (P = 0.042) and endpoint (P = 0.046) follow-ups. Modulation transfer function cutoff frequency (MTFcutoff) and objective scatter index (OSI) was significantly improved at 12-month (P = 0.025, P = 0.038), 24-month (P = 0.005, P = 0.007) and endpoint (P = 0.005, P = 0.008) follow-ups. Postoperative AXL remained stable during 2–4 year follow-ups (P > 0.05).ConclusionRefractive lens replacement surgery is safe and effective for improving functional vision in eoHM patients presenting with partial cataract. Retinal image quality could provide a useful and objective way to facilitate partial cataract severity evaluation and surgery decision making.

We evaluated the effects of different vitrification temperatures (VTs) and cryoprotective agent concentrations (CPAs) on the viability and expressions of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) in bovine oocytes following vitrification at the germinal vesicle (GV) stage. Our findings provide a theoretical support for improvement of the cryopreservation technology of bovine immature oocytes (BIOs). Bovine cumulus oocyte complexes (COCs) were collected and randomized into five groups: fresh oocytes (control), oocytes vitrified in liquid helium (LHe; -269 °C) with 5.6 M CPAs (LHe 5.6 M), oocytes vitrified in LHe with 6.6 M CPAs (LHe 6.6 M), oocytes vitrified in liquid nitrogen (LN; -196 °C) with 5.6 M CPAs (LN 5.6 M), and oocytes vitrified in LN with 6.6 M CPAs (LN 6.6 M). Of the four vitrification groups, the LHe 5.6 M group exhibited the highest blastocyst rate (13.22%), followed by the LHe 6.6 M group (10.19%) and LN 6.6 M group (9.77%), while the LN 5.6 M group had the lowest blastocyst rate (1.87%). Then, lncRNA expressions in the five groups were profiled. A total of 18,271 lncRNAs were identified, of which 2,158 were differentially expressed lncRNAs (DELs) in the vitrified groups, compared to the fresh group (P 0.05; fold-change2). Co-location (cis) and co-expression (trans) prediction revealed 14 differentially expressed target genes (DETGs), which corresponded to 17 DELs. Based on grouping data and expression profiles of the DELs, we demonstrated that different VTs (-269 °C vs. -196 °C) can affect the expressions of MSTRG.12295.5, MSTRG.37123.1, MSTRG.37930.2, MSTRG.40464.9, MSTRG.8869.3 and MSTRG.26680.6. Expressions of these lncRNAs were affected by CPAs only in the condition of vitrification with LHe (-269 °C). Expressions of MSTRG.35129.6 were associated with exposures to both VTs and CPAs; while expressions of MSTRG.3578.3, MSTRG.40576.3, MSTRG.6723.5, MSTRG.32862.4, MSTRG.1184.4, MSTRG.33110.3, MSTRG.40454.2, MSTRG.41073.2, MSTRG.44732.4 and MSTRG.6729.3 might be related to vitrification. Co-expression analysis showed that MSTRG.12295.5, MSTRG.37930.2, MSTRG.40454.2, MSTRG.8869.3 and MSTRG.6723.5 expressions affect oocyte development after vitrification by regulating target gene expressions. Taken together, improvement of the developmental ability of BIOs after LHe vitrification maybe attributed to changes in expressions of some lncRNAs. Our findings elucidate on the molecular mechanisms underlying the development of BIOs under different VTs and CPAs.

To evaluate intravitreal conbercept injection for treatment of macular oedema secondary to central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) in Chinese patients during 1-year follow-up in the real-world setting. Twenty-seven eyes of 27 patients with macular oedema associated with CRVO were retrospectively reviewed. The eyes received monthly intravitreal conbercept injection (0.5 mg in 50 µl) for 3 months. From then on, the patients were followed up every month and received injection pro re nata (PRN) up to 12 months. The primary outcome measurements included changes of best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and central retinal thickness (CRT) from baseline to month 3 and month 12. Other outcome measurements included proportion of patients gaining ≥15 letters in BCVA at month 3 and 12, the mean number of injections and safety concerns. The mean BCVA gain from baseline was 12.7 ± 7.6 letters at month 3 and 14.8 ± 9.6 letters at month 12. The mean CRT reduction from baseline was 374.5 ± 280.7 μm at month 3 and 428.2 ± 241.3 μm at month 12. The proportion of patients who gained ≥15 letters in BCVA was 45.1% at month 3 and 52.9% at month 12. The mean number of injections was 7.6 ± 1.5. No severe local and systemic complications occurred following injection. Intravitreal conbercept injection by three monthly loading doses followed by PRN treatment regimen was safe and efficacious for patients with macular oedema secondary to CRVO through 1-year follow-up.

Cigarette smoke will cause irreversible damage to human health and living environment. It is especially important to accurately detect and effectively prevent cigarette smoke. This paper fabricates a fiber membrane filmed with carbon nanopowders as a smoke sensor. The experiment reveals that the fabricated membrane is sensitive to the smoke, two laws are proposed to model the current change of the sensor. Fractal calculus is used to exactly predict the current property at the initial stage, and a fractal modification of the current law is proposed. The present technology provides an economic way to mass-production of smoke sensors.

Asiatic acid is a pentacyclic triterpene enriched in the medicinal herb Centella asiatica, and it has been suggested to possess free radical scavenging and anti-apoptotic properties. The purpose of the current study was to explore the effects of asiatic acid on porcine early-stage embryonic development and the potential mechanisms for any observed effects. The results showed that 10 μM asiatic acid supplementation during the in vitro culture period dramatically improved developmental competence in porcine embryos derived from parthenogenetic activation (PA), somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) and in vitro fertilization (IVF). Further analysis revealed that asiatic acid attenuated H2O2-induced intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. Notably, asiatic acid not only enhanced intracellular GSH levels but also attenuated mitochondrial dysfunction. Gene expression analysis revealed that asiatic acid upregulated expression of the antioxidant-related gene Sod-1 and the blastocyst formation related gene Cox-2, while downregulating expression of the apoptosis-related gene Caspase-9 in SCNT blastocysts. These results suggest that asiatic acid exerts beneficial effects on early embryonic development in porcine embryos and that asiatic acid may be useful for improving the in vitro production of porcine embryos.

Carbon materials are promising candidates for sensors to detect heavy metal ions. This paper reported an effective method of fabricating nanofiber membrane sensor for detection of heavy metal ions by electrospinning with the carbon nanoparticles and PANi (polyaniline) as additives. The results revealed that the PANi/C/PAN nanofiber membrane was the most economical approach to adsorbing and detecting metal ions with highly sensitive property. This paper sheds a light on an economic fabrication of nanofiber membrane sensor with well-defined characteristics in electrical sensors and adsorption applications.

In the present investigation, a new Ag–ZnO loaded carboxymethyl cellulose/K-carrageenan/graphene oxide/konjac glucomannan (Ag–ZnO@CGK) hydrogel was effectively prepared by means of a straight forward two step technique for clinical applications as wound-recuperating materials. In the first step, silver nanoparticles were synthesized with green deoxidizer mango peel extracts. The Ag–ZnO@CGK hydrogel indicated incredible swelling assimilation and impressive mechanical properties. Also, Ag–ZnO@CGK hydrogel exhibited great bactericidal movement against test microorganisms.
