For superconducting quantum processors, stable high-fidelity two-qubit operations depend on precise flux control of the tunable coupler. However, the pulse distortion poses a significant challenge to the control precision. Current calibration methods, which often rely on microwave crosstalk or additional readout resonators for coupler excitation and readout, tend to be cumbersome and inefficient, especially when couplers only have flux control. Here, we introduce and experimentally validate a novel pulse calibration scheme that exploits the strong coupling between qubits and couplers, eliminating the need for extra coupler readout and excitation. Our method directly measures the short-time and long-time step responses of the coupler flux pulse transient, enabling us to apply predistortion to subsequent signals using fast Fourier transformation and deconvolution. This approach not only simplifies the calibration process but also significantly improves the precision and stability of the flux control. We demonstrate the efficacy of our method through the implementation of diabatic CZ and iSWAP gates with fidelities of $99.61\pm0.04\%$ and $99.82\pm0.02\%$, respectively, as well as a series of diabatic CPhase gates with high fidelities characterized by cross-entropy benchmarking. The consistency and robustness of our technique are further validated by the reduction in pulse distortion and phase error observed across multilayer CZ gates. Contactless device-free wireless sensing has recently attracted significant interest due to its potential to support a wide range of immersive human-machine interactive applications using ubiquitously available radio frequency (RF) signals. Traditional approaches focus on developing a single global model based on a combined dataset collected from different locations. However, wireless signals are known to be location and environment specific. Thus, a global model results in inconsistent and unreliable sensing results. It is also unrealistic to construct individual models for all the possible locations and environmental scenarios. Motivated by the observation that signals recorded at different locations are closely related to a set of physical-layer semantic features, in this paper we propose SANSee, a semantic-aware networking-based framework for distributed wireless sensing. SANSee allows models constructed in one or a limited number of locations to be transferred to new locations without requiring any locally labeled data or model training. SANSee is built on the concept of physical-layer semantic-aware network (pSAN), which characterizes the semantic similarity and the correlations of sensed data across different locations. A pSAN-based zero-shot transfer learning solution is introduced to allow receivers in new locations to obtain location-specific models by directly aggregating the models trained by other receivers. We theoretically prove that models obtained by SANSee can approach the locally optimal models. Semantic- and task-oriented communication has emerged as a promising approach to reducing the latency and bandwidth requirements of next-generation mobile networks by transmitting only the most relevant information needed to complete a specific task at the receiver. This is particularly advantageous for machine-oriented communication of high data rate content, such as images and videos, where the goal is rapid and accurate inference, rather than perfect signal reconstruction. While semantic- and task-oriented compression can be implemented in conventional communication systems, joint source-channel coding (JSCC) offers an alternative end-to-end approach by optimizing compression and channel coding together, or even directly mapping the source signal to the modulated waveform. Although all digital communication systems today rely on separation, thanks to its modularity, JSCC is known to achieve higher performance in finite blocklength scenarios, and to avoid cliff and the levelling-off effects in time-varying channel scenarios. This article provides an overview of the information theoretic foundations of JSCC, surveys practical JSCC designs over the decades, and discusses the reasons for their limited adoption in practical systems. We then examine the recent resurgence of JSCC, driven by the integration of deep learning techniques, particularly through DeepJSCC, highlighting its many surprising advantages in various scenarios. Finally, we discuss why it may be time to reconsider today's strictly separate architectures, and reintroduce JSCC to enable high-fidelity, low-latency communications in critical applications such as autonomous driving, drone surveillance, or wearable systems., Comment: Under review for possible publication

The Hubbard model, a cornerstone in the field of condensed matter physics, serves as a fundamental framework for investigating the behavior of strongly correlated electron systems. This paper presents a novel perspective on the model, uncovering its inherent inverted duality which has profound implications for our comprehension of this complex system. Taking advantage of this special mathematical property, we have formulated an equation that the electron Green's function must satisfy. This paper addresses the need for improved precision in existing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) methods that primarily focus on enhancing recall. We propose a multi-layer knowledge pyramid approach within the RAG framework to achieve a better balance between precision and recall. The knowledge pyramid consists of three layers: Ontologies, Knowledge Graphs (KGs), and chunk-based raw text. We employ cross-layer augmentation techniques for comprehensive knowledge coverage and dynamic updates of the Ontology schema and instances. To ensure compactness, we utilize cross-layer filtering methods for knowledge condensation in KGs. Our approach, named PolyRAG, follows a waterfall model for retrieval, starting from the top of the pyramid and progressing down until a confident answer is obtained. We introduce two benchmarks for domain-specific knowledge retrieval, one in the academic domain and the other in the financial domain. The effectiveness of the methods has been validated through comprehensive experiments by outperforming 19 SOTA methods. An encouraging observation is that the proposed method has augmented the GPT-4, providing 395\% F1 gain by improving its performance from 0.1636 to 0.8109.

Accurate human localization is crucial for various applications, especially in the Metaverse era. Existing high precision solutions rely on expensive, tag-dependent hardware, while vision-based methods offer a cheaper, tag-free alternative. However, current vision solutions based on stereo vision face limitations due to rigid perspective transformation principles and error propagation in multi-stage SVD solvers. These solutions also require multiple high-resolution cameras with strict setup constraints. To address these limitations, we propose a probabilistic approach that considers all points on the human body as observations generated by a distribution centered around the body's geometric center. This enables us to improve sampling significantly, increasing the number of samples for each point of interest from hundreds to billions. By modeling the relation between the means of the distributions of world coordinates and pixel coordinates, leveraging the Central Limit Theorem, we ensure normality and facilitate the learning process. Experimental results demonstrate human localization accuracy of 95% within a 0.3m range and nearly 100% accuracy within a 0.5m range, achieved at a low cost of only 10 USD using two web cameras with a resolution of 640x480 pixels.

Contrast-enhanced brain MRI (CE-MRI) is a valuable diagnostic technique but may pose health risks and incur high costs. To create safer alternatives, multi-modality medical image translation aims to synthesize CE-MRI images from other available modalities. Although existing methods can generate promising predictions, they still face two challenges, i.e., exhibiting over-confidence and lacking interpretability on predictions. To address the above challenges, this paper introduces TrustI2I, a novel trustworthy method that reformulates multi-to-one medical image translation problem as a multimodal regression problem, aiming to build an uncertainty-aware and reliable system. Specifically, our method leverages deep evidential regression to estimate prediction uncertainties and employs an explicit intermediate and late fusion strategy based on the Mixture of Normal Inverse Gamma (MoNIG) distribution, enhancing both synthesis quality and interpretability. Additionally, we incorporate uncertainty calibration to improve the reliability of uncertainty. Validation on the BraTS2018 dataset demonstrates that our approach surpasses current methods, producing higher-quality images with rational uncertainty estimation., Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures

We consider the problem of joint source-channel coding with distortion and perception constraints from a rateless perspective, the purpose of which is to settle the balance between reliability (distortion/perception) and effectiveness (rate) of transmission over uncertain channels. We find a new finite-blocklength bound for the achievable joint source-channel code rate with the above two constraints. To achieve a superior rateless characteristic of JSCC coding, we perform multi-level optimization on various finite-blocklength codes. Based on these two, we then propose a new JSCC coding scheme called rateless stochastic coding (RSC). We experimentally demonstrate that the proposed RSC can achieve variable rates of transmission maintaining an excellent trade-off between distortion and perception.

We construct neural networks that work for any Lie group and maintain gauge covariance, enabling smooth, invertible gauge field transformations. We implement these transformations for 4D SU(3) lattice gauge fields and explore their use in HMC. We focus on developing loss functions and optimizing the transformations. As a precious global resource in quantum information, genuine tripartite nonlocality(GTN) can be quantified by violating Svetlichny inequality. However, there is still no analytical expression for the general three-qubit states due to the difficulty of theoretical calculations. In this paper, we achieve highly accurate quantization of GTN for arbitrary three-qubit quantum states numerically. As an example, we study the dynamics of GTN and genuine tripartite entanglement(GTE) for the W state. Moreover, the complementarity of GTN is verified by examining the nonlocality between the tripartite and the bipartite. Finally, we also find a useful strategy to protect the correlation of GTN and GTE under decoherence by utilizing the Zeno effect., Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures

Kinetic infernal mode (KIM) is an electromagnetic instability driven by thermal ions in weak magnetic shear region with a frequency similar to the kinetic ballooning mode (KBM). Gyrokinetic simulations of KIM using Gyrokinetic Toroidal Code (GTC) found that the electromagnetic instability shows a smooth transition from KBM to KIM in both frequency and growth rate when magnetic shear varies from strong to weak, which suggests that KIM and KBM may belong to the same mode physically. The mode structure analysis reveals that the mode transition is induced by the change in distance between adjacent mode rational surfaces. The magnetic shear and driving source effects are investigated in detail. The simulation results show that KIM prefers to grow on the mode rational surface nearest to the minimum magnetic shear, i.e., where the shear stabilizing effect is weakest, instead of at the maximum of density gradient or temperature gradient. However, the magnitude of the growth rate is determined by magnetic shear and temperature gradient simultaneously. These findings suggest that KIM can be effectively regulated by modifying the strength and position of magnetic shear, as well as pressure gradients.

Recent advancements in generative models have significantly impacted content creation, leading to the emergence of Personalized Content Synthesis (PCS). With a small set of user-provided examples, PCS aims to customize the subject of interest to specific user-defined prompts. Over the past two years, more than 150 methods have been proposed. However, existing surveys mainly focus on text-to-image generation, with few providing up-to-date summaries on PCS. This paper offers a comprehensive survey of PCS, with a particular focus on the diffusion models. Specifically, we introduce the generic frameworks of PCS research, which can be broadly classified into optimization-based and learning-based approaches. We further categorize and analyze these methodologies, discussing their strengths, limitations, and key techniques. Additionally, we delve into specialized tasks within the field, such as personalized object generation, face synthesis, and style personalization, highlighting their unique challenges and innovations. Despite encouraging progress, we also present an analysis of the challenges such as overfitting and the trade-off between subject fidelity and text alignment. Through this detailed overview and analysis, we propose future directions to advance the development of PCS.

This paper presents a pilot study that explores the application of active learning, traditionally studied in the context of discriminative models, to generative models. We specifically focus on image synthesis personalization tasks. The primary challenge in conducting active learning on generative models lies in the open-ended nature of querying, which differs from the closed form of querying in discriminative models that typically target a single concept. We introduce the concept of anchor directions to transform the querying process into a semi-open problem. We propose a direction-based uncertainty sampling strategy to enable generative active learning and tackle the exploitation-exploration dilemma. Extensive experiments are conducted to validate the effectiveness of our approach, demonstrating that an open-source model can achieve superior performance compared to closed-source models developed by large companies, such as Google's StyleDrop. This paper presents a pilot study aimed at introducing multi-agent debate into multimodal reasoning. The study addresses two key challenges: the trivialization of opinions resulting from excessive summarization and the diversion of focus caused by distractor concepts introduced from images. These challenges stem from the inductive (bottom-up) nature of existing debating schemes. To address the issue, we propose a deductive (top-down) debating approach called Blueprint Debate on Graphs (BDoG). In BDoG, debates are confined to a blueprint graph to prevent opinion trivialization through world-level summarization. Moreover, by storing evidence in branches within the graph, BDoG mitigates distractions caused by frequent but irrelevant concepts. Extensive experiments validate that BDoG is able to achieve state-of-the-art results in ScienceQA and MMBench with significant improvements over previous methods. Tuning language models for dialogue generation has been a prevalent paradigm for building capable dialogue agents. Yet, traditional tuning narrowly views dialogue generation as resembling other language generation tasks, ignoring the role disparities between two speakers and the multi-round interactive process that dialogues ought to be. Such a manner often leads to unsatisfactory chat consistency for the built agent. In this work, we emphasize the interactive, communicative nature of dialogue and argue that it is more feasible to model the speaker roles of agent and user separately, enabling the agent to adhere to its role consistently. With this in mind, we propose an efficient Multi-round Interactive Dialogue Tuning (Midi-Tuning) framework. It models the agent and user individually with two adapters built upon large language models. The adapters make use of respective utterances round by round in alternating order and they are tuned via a round-level memory caching mechanism. This study employs gyrokinetic simulations to investigate ion temperature gradient (ITG) turbulence in realistic fusion plasmas featuring reverse magnetic shear. Negative magnetic shear is found to suppress the ITG instability due to the scarcity of mode rational surfaces, as evidenced by a comparison of instabilities for different magnetic shears. This suppression effect remains observable in nonlinear turbulence with zonal flow artificially eliminated, where the emergence of turbulence solitons aligns with mode rational surface peaks. However, the suppression effect diminishes in the presence of self-consistently generated zonal flow, along with the occurance of turbulence solitons. The zonal flow is found to originated from a force driven process by the primary instability, instead of the conventional modulational instability. The study further reveals a remarkable phenomenon that the Dimits shift no longer exists for negative magnetic shear, which are attributed to the weakness of zonal flow around marginal stability. However, away from marginal stability, the turbulent transport is primarily regulated by the zonal flow regardless of different magnetic shears., Comment: 10 pages

Large language models (LLMs) have strong capabilities in solving diverse natural language processing tasks. However, the safety and security issues of LLM systems have become the major obstacle to their widespread application. Many studies have extensively investigated risks in LLM systems and developed the corresponding mitigation strategies. Leading-edge enterprises such as OpenAI, Google, Meta, and Anthropic have also made lots of efforts on responsible LLMs. Therefore, there is a growing need to organize the existing studies and establish comprehensive taxonomies for the community. In this paper, we delve into four essential modules of an LLM system, including an input module for receiving prompts, a language model trained on extensive corpora, a toolchain module for development and deployment, and an output module for exporting LLM-generated content. Based on this, we propose a comprehensive taxonomy, which systematically analyzes potential risks associated with each module of an LLM system and discusses the corresponding mitigation strategies. Furthermore, we review prevalent benchmarks, aiming to facilitate the risk assessment of LLM systems. We hope that this paper can help LLM participants embrace a systematic perspective to build their responsible LLM systems.

We examined the output of a quantum Michelson interferometer incorporating the combined effects of nonlinear optomechanical interaction and time-varying gravitational fields. Our findings indicate a deviation from the standard relationship between the phase shift of the interferometer's output and the amplitude of gravitational waves. This deviation, a slight offset in direct proportionality, is associated with the gravitational wave memory effect under the conventional settings of interferometer parameters. Furthermore, the results suggest that consecutive gravitational wave memory, or the stochastic gravitational wave memory background (SGWMB), contributes not only to the classical red noise spectrum but also to a quantum red noise spectrum through this new mechanism. This leads to a novel quantum noise limit for interferometers, which may be crucial for higher precision detection system. Our analysis potentially offers a more accurate description of quantum interferometers responding to gravitational waves and applies to other scenarios involving time-varying gravitational fields. It also provides insights and experimental approaches for exploring how to unify the quantum effects of macroscopic objects and gravitation.

We present a trainable framework for efficiently generating gauge configurations, and discuss ongoing work in this direction. In particular, we consider the problem of sampling configurations from a 4D $SU(3)$ lattice gauge theory, and consider a generalized leapfrog integrator in the molecular dynamics update that can be trained to improve sampling efficiency. Inversion methods, such as Textual Inversion, generate personalized images by incorporating concepts of interest provided by user images. However, existing methods often suffer from overfitting issues, where the dominant presence of inverted concepts leads to the absence of other desired concepts. It stems from the fact that during inversion, the irrelevant semantics in the user images are also encoded, forcing the inverted concepts to occupy locations far from the core distribution in the embedding space. To address this issue, we propose a method that guides the inversion process towards the core distribution for compositional embeddings. Additionally, we introduce a spatial regularization approach to balance the attention on the concepts being composed. Our method is designed as a post-training approach and can be seamlessly integrated with other inversion methods. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach in mitigating the overfitting problem and generating more diverse and balanced compositions of concepts in the synthesized images. We present non-perturbative lattice calculations of the low-lying meson and baryon spectrum of the SU(4) gauge theory with fundamental fermion constituents. This theory is one instance of stealth dark matter, a class of strongly coupled theories, where the lowest mass stable baryon is the dark matter candidate. This work constitutes the first milestone in the program to study stealth dark matter self-interactions. Here, we focus on reducing excited state contamination in the single baryon channel by applying the Laplacian Heaviside method, as well as projecting our baryon operators onto the irreducible representations of the octahedral group. We compare our resulting spectrum to previous work involving Gaussian smeared non-projected operators and find good agreement with reduced statistical uncertainties. Perturbation theory plays an essential role in the realm of physics, especially when it is difficult or impossible to obtain exact solutions. Incorporating higher derivative terms into the gravitational action leads to an important perturbation problem. In this paper, we demonstrate that the first order corrections to black hole thermodynamics, caused by any higher derivative terms, can be achieved without explicitly solving the modified metric. This enhances a simple approach discovered two decades ago and resolves the controversy surrounding it. Semantic communication has attracted significant interest recently due to its capability to meet the fast growing demand on user-defined and human-oriented communication services such as holographic communications, eXtended reality (XR), and human-to-machine interactions. Unfortunately, recent study suggests that the traditional Shannon information theory, focusing mainly on delivering semantic-agnostic symbols, will not be sufficient to investigate the semantic-level perceptual quality of the recovered messages at the receiver. In this paper, we study the achievable data rate of semantic communication under the symbol distortion and semantic perception constraints. Motivated by the fact that the semantic information generally involves rich intrinsic knowledge that cannot always be directly observed by the encoder, we consider a semantic information source that can only be indirectly sensed by the encoder. Both encoder and decoder can access to various types of side information that may be closely related to the user's communication preference. We derive the achievable region that characterizes the tradeoff among the data rate, symbol distortion, and semantic perception, which is then theoretically proved to be achievable by a stochastic coding scheme. We derive a closed-form achievable rate for binary semantic information source under any given distortion and perception constraints. We observe that there exists cases that the receiver can directly infer the semantic information source satisfying certain distortion and perception constraints without requiring any data communication from the transmitter. Motivated by the observation that signals recorded by wireless receivers are closely related to a set of physical-layer semantic features, in this paper we propose a novel zero-shot wireless sensing solution that allows models constructed in one or a limited number of locations to be directly transferred to other locations without any labeled data. We develop a novel physical-layer semantic-aware network (pSAN) framework to characterize the correlation between physical-layer semantic features and the sensing data distributions across different receivers. We then propose a pSAN-based zero-shot learning solution in which each receiver can obtain a location-specific gesture recognition model by directly aggregating the already constructed models of other receivers. We theoretically prove that models obtained by our proposed solution can approach the optimal model without requiring any local model training. Synthesizing medical images while preserving their structural information is crucial in medical research. In such scenarios, the preservation of anatomical content becomes especially important. Although recent advances have been made by incorporating instance-level information to guide translation, these methods overlook the spatial coherence of structural-level representation and the anatomical invariance of content during translation. To address these issues, we introduce hierarchical granularity discrimination, which exploits various levels of semantic information present in medical images. Our strategy utilizes three levels of discrimination granularity: pixel-level discrimination using a Brain Memory Bank, structure-level discrimination on each brain structure with a re-weighting strategy to focus on hard samples, and global-level discrimination to ensure anatomical consistency during translation. The image translation performance of our strategy has been evaluated on three independent datasets (UK Biobank, IXI, and BraTS 2018), and it has outperformed state-of-the-art algorithms. Particularly, our model excels not only in synthesizing normal structures but also in handling abnormal (pathological) structures, such as brain tumors, despite the variations in contrast observed across different imaging modalities due to their pathological characteristics. The diagnostic value of synthesized MR images containing brain tumors has been evaluated by radiologists. This indicates that our model may offer an alternative solution in scenarios where specific MR modalities of patients are unavailable. Extensive experiments further demonstrate the versatility of our method, providing unique insights into medical image translation.

The rise of online social networks has facilitated the evolution of social recommender systems, which incorporate social relations to enhance users' decision-making process. With the great success of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) in learning node representations, GNN-based social recommendations have been widely studied to model user-item interactions and user-user social relations simultaneously. Despite their great successes, recent studies have shown that these advanced recommender systems are highly vulnerable to adversarial attacks, in which attackers can inject well-designed fake user profiles to disrupt recommendation performances. While most existing studies mainly focus on argeted attacks to promote target items on vanilla recommender systems, untargeted attacks to degrade the overall prediction performance are less explored on social recommendations under a black-box scenario. To perform untargeted attacks on social recommender systems, attackers can construct malicious social relationships for fake users to enhance the attack performance. However, the coordination of social relations and item profiles is challenging for attacking black-box social recommendations. To address this limitation, we first conduct several preliminary studies to demonstrate the effectiveness of cross-community connections and cold-start items in degrading recommendations performance. Specifically, we propose a novel framework MultiAttack based on multi-agent reinforcement learning to coordinate the generation of cold-start item profiles and cross-community social relations for conducting untargeted attacks on black-box social recommendations. A global effort has been initiated to reduce the worldwide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, primarily carbon emissions, by half by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050. The development of 6G must also be compliant with this goal. Unfortunately, developing a sustainable and net-zero emission systems to meet the users' fast growing demands on mobile services, especially smart services and applications, may be much more challenging than expected. Particularly, despite the energy efficiency improvement in both hardware and software designs, the overall energy consumption and carbon emission of mobile networks are still increasing at a tremendous speed. The growing penetration of resource-demanding AI algorithms and solutions further exacerbate this challenge. In this article, we identify the major emission sources and introduce an evaluation framework for analyzing the lifecycle of network AI implementations. A novel joint dynamic energy trading and task allocation optimization framework, called DETA, has been introduced to reduce the overall carbon emissions. We consider a federated edge intelligence-based network AI system as a case study to verify the effectiveness of our proposed solution. Experimental results based on a hardware prototype suggest that our proposed solution can reduce carbon emissions of network AI systems by up to 74.9%. Finally, open problems and future directions are discussed.

Trip flow between areas is a fundamental metric for human mobility research. Given its identification with travel demand and its relevance for transportation and urban planning, many models have been developed for its estimation. These models focus on flow intensity, disregarding the information provided by the local mobility orientation. A field-theoretic approach can overcome this issue and handling both intensity and direction at once. Here we propose a general vector-field representation starting from individuals' trajectories valid for any type of mobility. By introducing four models of spatial exploration, we show how individuals' elections determine the mesoscopic properties of the mobility field. Distance optimization in long displacements and random-like local exploration are necessary to reproduce empirical field features observed in Chinese logistic data and in New York City Foursquare check-ins. Our framework is an essential tool to capture hidden symmetries in mesoscopic urban mobility, it establishes a benchmark to test the validity of mobility models and opens the doors to the use of field theory in a wide spectrum of applications., Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, Appendices
