ObjectivesThis study takes a typical pressure hull segment of an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) as the object and explores its load bearing capacity law based on lightweight design technology. MethodsFirst, several typical materials are analyzed using the mechanical properties of the pressure hull, load law and optimal critical load design value (stress strength failure and stability failure occur concurrently). The bearing properties of a typical pressure hull with varying depths are then discussed further in terms of the specific engineering requirements. ResultsThe failure mode of the shell gradually transitions from stability failure to strength failure as the depth increases, and the optimal critical load design value is proportional to the qualities of the material. Taking bearing efficiency and other factors into consideration, aluminum alloy shells should be selected within the 300 m depth range, titanium alloy and glass fiber composite shells within the 300−600 m depth range, and titanium alloy and carbon fiber composite shells within the 600−1 000 m depth range. In the 1 000−3 000 m depth range, a carbon fiber and boron fiber composite shell is the ideal solution. ConclusionsThe findings of this study can be used to guide the design of pressure hulls for UUVs made of various materials.

Abstract Brown adipose tissue (BAT) plays a critical role in regulating cardiovascular homeostasis through the secretion of adipokines, such as fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21). Dexmedetomidine (DEX) is a selective α2-adrenergic receptor agonist with a protection against myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MI/RI). It remains largely unknown whether or not BAT-derived FGF21 is involved in DEX-induced cardioprotection in the context of MI/RI. Herein, we demonstrated that DEX alleviated MI/RI and improved heart function through promoting the release of FGF21 from interscapular BAT (iBAT). Surgical iBAT depletion or supplementation with a FGF21 neutralizing antibody attenuated the beneficial effects of DEX. AMPK/PGC1α signaling-induced fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) release in brown adipocytes is required for DEX-mediated cardioprotection since blockade of the AMPK/PGC1α axis weakened the salutary effects of DEX. Co-culture experiments showed that DEX-induced FGF21 from brown adipocytes increased the resistance of cardiomyocytes to hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) injury via modulating the Keap1/Nrf2 pathway. Our results provided robust evidence that the BAT-cardiomyocyte interaction is required for DEX cardioprotection, and revealed an endocrine role of BAT in DEX-mediating protection of hearts against MIRI.

Abstract In order to promote the development and utilization of desert sand, this study is based on researching the most suitable ratio of bio-cement, analyzing the shear strength and permeability of improved desert sand by combining bio-cement and fly ash, and clarifying the applicability of tap water in bio-cement. The relationship between the two and the microstructural properties was investigated using the results of the straight shear test and the permeability test. The results showed that the urease solution prepared with tap water had a more pronounced temperature resistance. The urea concentration and the corresponding pH environment had a direct effect on the urease activity. The calcium carbonate yield was positively correlated with the calcium concentration, and the urea concentration was higher in the ranges of 1.0–1.5 mol/L. As the enzyme-to-gel ratio decreased, the calcium carbonate precipitate produced per unit volume of urease solution gradually converged to a certain value. The shear strength (increased by 37.9%) and permeability (decreased by about 8.9–68.5%) of the modified desert sand peaked with the increase in fly ash content. The microscopic test results indicated that the fly ash could provide nucleation sites for the bio-cement, effectively improving the mechanical properties of the desert sand. The crystal types of calcium carbonate in the modified desert sand were calcite and aragonite, which were the most stable crystal types. This study provides innovative ideas for interdisciplinary research in the fields of bioengineering, ecology and civil engineering.

Abstract Background Cytokines and growth factors may serve as a bridge in studying the causal relationships between inflammaging and sarcopenia due to their roles in inflammaging. In this study, we aim to explore the causal association of cytokines with sarcopenia and aging traits and further identify the significant inflammation factors. Methods Bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was used to identify the causality. Forty‐one kinds of circulation cytokines and growth factors were set as exposures, and the data were from a summary genome‐wide association study (GWAS) containing three cohorts with 8293 healthy participants of European ancestry from 1983 to 2011. Hand grip strength, adjusted appendicular lean mass (AALM), usual walking pace, moderate‐to‐vigorous physical activity (MVPA) levels, able to walk or cycle unaided for 10 min (AWCU10) and telomere length were selected as outcomes. Data for outcomes were obtained from meta‐GWAS and the UK Biobank, and sample sizes ranged from 69 537 to 472 174. Low hand grip strength was defined by the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP) and Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) cut‐off points, respectively. Other outcome traits were defined and measured according to the UK Biobank and raw cohorts' criteria. We set two significance thresholds for single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with exposures to obtain adequate SNPs (5 × 10−6 and 5 × 10−8). Inverse‐variance weighted, MR‐Egger and weighted median were employed to estimate the causality. Results Twenty‐seven factors were identified to relate to sarcopenia and aging traits causally, and most were associated with only one outcome trait. IL16 (interleukin‐16), CTACK (cutaneous T‐cell attracting chemokine), MIP1b (macrophage inflammatory protein 1b) and PDGFbb (platelet‐derived growth factor BB) were proven to relate causally to at least one sarcopenia and aging trait in both analyses with two significance thresholds. IL16 was causally associated with hand grip strength (0.977 [0.956–0.998] for EWGSOP and 0.933 [0.874–0.996] for FNIH), AALM (0.991 [0.984, 0.998]), MVPA (0.997 [0.995–1.000]) and AWCU10 (1.008 [1.003–1.013]). CTACK was proven to relate causally to hand grip strength (1.013 [1.007–1.019] for EWGSOP and 1.090 [1.041–1.142] for FNIH), AWCU10 (0.990 [0.986–0.994]) and telomere length (0.998 [0.983–0.994]). The results indicated that MIP1b has a causal effect on hand grip strength (1.032 [1.001–1.063] for EWGSOP), AWCU10 (0.994 [0.988–1.000] and 0.993 [0.988–0.998]) and telomere length (1.006 [1.000–1.012]). PDGFbb may causally relate to AALM (1.016 [1.001–1.030]) and telomere length (1.011 [1.007–1.015]). Reserve MR analyses also proved their unidirectional causal effects. Conclusions Twenty‐seven factors were causally related to sarcopenia and aging traits, and the causal effects of IL16, CTACK, MIP1b and PDGFbb were proven in both analyses with two significance thresholds.

Abstract Diabetic individuals with diabetic cardiomyopathy (DbCM) present with abnormal myocardial structure and function. DbCM cannot be accurately diagnosed due to the lack of suitable diagnostic biomarkers. In this study, 171 eligible participants were divided into a healthy control (HC), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients without DbCM (T2DM), or DbCM group. Serum fibrinogen-like protein 1 (FGL-1) and other biochemical parameters were determined for all participants. Serum FGL-1 levels were significantly higher in patients with DbCM compared with those in the T2DM group and HCs. Serum FGL-1 levels were negatively correlated with left ventricular fractional shortening and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and positively correlated with left ventricular mass index in patients with DbCM after adjusting for age, sex and body mass index. Interaction of serum FGL-1 and triglyceride levels on LVEF was noted in patients with DbCM. A composite marker including serum FGL-1 and triglycerides could differentiate patients with DbCM from those with T2DM and HCs with an area under the curve of 0.773 and 0.789, respectively. Composite marker levels were negatively correlated with N-terminal B-type natriuretic peptide levels in patients with DbCM. Circulating FGL-1 may therefore be a valuable index reflecting cardiac functions in DbCM and to diagnose DbCM.

Abstract Background Neutral cholesterol ester hydrolase 1 (NCEH1) plays a critical role in the regulation of cholesterol ester metabolism. Deficiency of NCHE1 accelerated atherosclerotic lesion formation in mice. Nonetheless, the role of NCEH1 in endothelial dysfunction associated with diabetes has not been explored. The present study sought to investigate whether NCEH1 improved endothelial function in diabetes, and the underlying mechanisms were explored. Methods The expression and activity of NCEH1 were determined in obese mice with high-fat diet (HFD) feeding, high glucose (HG)-induced mouse aortae or primary endothelial cells (ECs). Endothelium-dependent relaxation (EDR) in aortae response to acetylcholine (Ach) was measured. Results Results showed that the expression and activity of NCEH1 were lower in HFD-induced mouse aortae, HG-exposed mouse aortae ex vivo, and HG-incubated primary ECs. HG exposure reduced EDR in mouse aortae, which was exaggerated by endothelial-specific deficiency of NCEH1, whereas NCEH1 overexpression restored the impaired EDR. Similar results were observed in HFD mice. Mechanically, NCEH1 ameliorated the disrupted EDR by dissociating endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) from caveolin-1 (Cav-1), leading to eNOS activation and nitric oxide (NO) release. Moreover, interaction of NCEH1 with the E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase ZNRF1 led to the degradation of Cav-1 through the ubiquitination pathway. Silencing Cav-1 and upregulating ZNRF1 were sufficient to improve EDR of diabetic aortas, while overexpression of Cav-1 and downregulation of ZNRF1 abolished the effects of NCEH1 on endothelial function in diabetes. Thus, NCEH1 preserves endothelial function through increasing NO bioavailability secondary to the disruption of the Cav-1/eNOS complex in the endothelium of diabetic mice, depending on ZNRF1-induced ubiquitination of Cav-1. Conclusions NCEH1 may be a promising candidate for the prevention and treatment of vascular complications of diabetes.

BackgroundInflammaging, an immune status characterized by a sustained increase in pro-inflammatory markers and a decline in anti-inflammatory mechanisms, is a critical risk factor in the development of sarcopenia. Landscapes of the causal relationships between immunity and sarcopenia are needed to understand the mechanism of sarcopenia and provide novel treatments comprehensively.MethodsWe used Mendelian Randomization (MR) as the basic method in this study. By setting immune proteins, immune cells, and sarcopenia as exposures and outcomes alternatively, and then combining them in different directions, we potentially estimated their causal relationships and directions and subsequently mapped the comprehensive causal landscape based on this information efficiently. To further understand the network, we developed a method based on rank-sums to integrate multiple algorithms and identify the key immune cells and proteins.ResultsMore than 1,000 causal relationships were identified between immune cell phenotypes, proteins, and sarcopenia traits (p < 0.05), and the causal maps of these linkages were established. In the threshold of FDR < 0.05, hundreds of causal linkages were still significant. The final comprehensive map included 13 immune cell phenotypes and 8 immune proteins. The star factors in the final map included EM CD8br %CD8br, EM DN (CD4- CD8-) %DN, SIRT2, and so on.ConclusionBy reading the landscapes in this study, we may not only find the factors and the pathways that have been reported and proven but also identify multiple novel immunity cell phenotypes and proteins with enriched upstream and downstream pathways.

ObjectivesThis study aimed to explore the synergistic interaction effect between hyperuricemia and hypertension towards chronic kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes.MethodsThis research originates from a cross-sectional study performed in Zhejiang Province, Eastern China, between March and November 2018. The correlation between serum uric acid levels and the risk of chronic kidney disease was assessed using a restricted cubic spline model. An unconditional multivariable logistic regression model, along with an interaction table, was utilized to explore the potential interaction effect of hyperuricemia and hypertension towards chronic kidney disease.Results1,756 patients with type 2 diabetes were included in this study, the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) was 27.62% in this population. A U-shaped non-linear pattern emerged correlating serum uric acid (SUA) levels and CKD risk, indicating that both low and high SUA levels were linked to an increased CKD risk. Abstract With the development of distributed power sources in the distribution network, the algorithm of distribution network reconfiguration is gaining attention from experts and scholars. Its goal is to reduce the power loss during power transmission, so as to reduce the power grid loss during power transmission. And weaken the electric heating effect in the process of electric energy transmission, thus maintaining the safety of the surrounding residents. Due to the wire impedance effect, a lot of electric energy of the circuit is lost to electric heating, which is easy to cause local overheating and lead to fire. This will not only cause power loss, but also endanger the safety of surrounding residents. To address the issue, experiments on distribution grid reconstruction are performed using the enhanced particle swarm-fish swarm algorithm with the Elecgrid self-constructed dataset. Initially, low-voltage distributed power sources in parallel are connected to the circuit, thereby decreasing internal resistance and electrical heat. Then, by controlling the circuit in the system, the double separation relay adjusts the inductance and capacitance of the conductor, thus reducing the reactance length. Additionally, particle swarm particles are mutated to enable them to jump out of the local optimum, and elite fish approach is used to expand the search area. Finally, the proposed fusion algorithm is applied to the self-built data set of Elecgrid and compared with the other three algorithms. The fusion algorithm serves as the standard test system for this comparison. The active power loss of the hybrid algorithm is 63 kW at an operating voltage of 0.74 V. The loss work of the other three algorithms is 74 kW, 97 kW and 109 kW respectively. The mixed algorithm has the lowest loss among the four algorithms. The experiments are repeated for six times, and the linear fitting degrees of the four algorithms are 0.9804, 0.9527, 0.9612 and 0.9503, respectively. The experimental results show that the application of this algorithm can effectively reduce the active loss in the process of distribution network reconfiguration, thus reducing energy consumption; At the same time, it can reduce the electric heating in the process of electric energy transmission, and then prevent the occurrence of fire. There are three main contributions of this study. Firstly, the resistance in the transmission path is reduced by using this algorithm, so that the power transmission efficiency can be analyzed more accurately. Secondly, the new algorithm enriches the power safety maintenance method; Finally, the fire caused by local overheating of the line is reduced by fusion algorithm.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of three different types of bariatric surgeries, namely, sleeve gastrectomy (SG), one-anastomotic gastric bypass (OAGB), and single anastomosis sleeve ileal (SASI) bypass, in the treatment of metabolic syndrome (MS). The optimal approach for managing MS remains uncertain, and thus this study aimed to provide a recent analysis of the efficacy of these surgical procedures. This retrospective study evaluated data of individuals who underwent SG, OAGB, and SASI bypass. The primary outcome measures included weight, body mass index (BMI), glucolipid metabolic index, and the occurrence of treatment-related complications within 6 to 12 months post-surgery. A total of 324 patients were included in this study. Of these, 264 patients underwent SG, 30 underwent OAGB, and 30 underwent SASI bypass. A significant decrease in weight was observed at the 6-month and 12-month marks following all three surgical procedures. Of these, patients who underwent SASI bypass exhibited the greatest reduction in weight and BMI post-surgery. Furthermore, the SASI bypass was associated with a significantly higher percentage of total weight loss (%TWL) and excess body mass index loss (%EBMIL) compared to SG and OAGB. Patients who underwent OAGB and SASI bypass demonstrated notable improvements in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Patients who underwent SASI bypass and OAGB experienced greater postoperative comfort and reported fewer complaints of discomfort compared to the other procedure. Based on the retrospective analysis of the data, SASI bypass was associated with greater reductions in weight and BMI, higher percentages of %TWL and %EBMIL, and better improvement in T2DM compared to SG and OAGB. Therefore, both SASI bypass and OAGB were found to be more effective than SG in the treatment of MS.

Abstract Background There is a paucity of Chinese studies evaluating the quality of life (QoL) in young acute type A aortic dissection (AAAD) patients with Marfan syndrome. Methods Young adult AAAD patients (younger than 45 years old) underwent surgical treatment at our institution from January 2017 to December 2020 were consecutive enrolled. The hospital survivors completed 1 year of follow up. Patients were divided into two groups according to the presence or absence of Marfan syndrome (MFS). A 1:1 propensity score matching (PSM) with a caliper 0.2 was conducted to balance potential bias in baseline. The follow-up data were analyzed primarily for change in quality of life and anxiety status. Results After PSM, 32 comparable pairs were matched. The baseline data were comparable and postoperative complications were similar between groups. In terms of SF-36 scale, the role physical, bodily pain, role emotional and mental health subscales were no significantly improved in MFS patients over time. At 1 year after discharged, the subscale of mental health and bodily pain were significantly lower in the MFS group than in the non-MFS group. In terms of HADS assessments, the level of anxiety in MFS patients was significantly higher than in non-MFS patients at 1 year after discharged. Conclusions The QoL in young AAAD patients with MFS is lower than those without MFS after surgery. This may be associated with the uncontrollable persistent chronic pain and the uncertainty and concerns for the disease’s progression.

Abstract Total neointima implantation (patch neointima technique + triple‐branched stent graft placement) has been performed in proximal aortic repair for acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) for more than 10 years at a center. However, there is no report on the mid‐term outcomes with a control group of the surgical procedure. Consequently, the authors aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this technique in this study. Patients who underwent the total neointima implantation were classified as Group A, and those who underwent the conventional aortic root reconstruction with the “sandwich” technique and the total aortic arch replacement were classified as Group B. Furthermore, the authors described the preoperative characteristics, operative data, and patient outcomes. Group A patients experienced a shorter surgery duration, lower volumes of perioperative bleeding, and fewer red blood cell transfusions. The incidence of neurological complications was significantly reduced in Group A. All patients maintained a normal range of proximal aortic sizes after surgery. Kaplan–Meier analysis revealed no significant differences between the patients in the two groups regarding cumulative mortality and the incidence of moderate‐to‐severe aortic insufficiency. In well‐selected patients, total neointima implantation is an alternative procedure for the surgical repair of ATAAD.
