In the past two decades, people have started to develop efficient, clean and safe transportation vehicles. The development of a fuel cell vehicle has become the focus of attention. First, we analyze the common components of a hybrid electric vehicle with a fuel cell. Second, we build a simulation model of the hybrid electric vehicle with a fuel cell. Through the simulation model, we study and analyze the fuel cell and battery under various conditions related to fuel consumption parameters. Through the above-described research, we hope to optimize the parameter structure of the fuel cell hybrid electric vehicle and improve the working efficiency of fuel cells.

Background Systemic chemotherapy or chemoradiation therapy has proven to be effective in treating advanced biliary tract carcinoma (BTC). However, its efficacy in the adjuvant setting remains controversial. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the prognostic significance of genomic biomarkers in resected BTC and their potential role in stratifying patients for adjuvant treatment. Methods We retrospectively reviewed 113 BTC patients who underwent curative‐intent surgery and had available tumor sequencing data. Disease‐free survival (DFS) was the primary outcome examined and univariate analysis was used to identify gene mutations with prognostic value. Favorable and unfavoratble gene subsets were distinguished from the selected genes through grouping, respectively. Multivariate Cox regression was used to identify independent prognostic factors of DFS. Results Our results indicated that mutations in ACVR1B, AR, CTNNB1, ERBB3, and LRP2 were favorable mutations, while mutations in ARID1A, CDKN2A, FGFR2, NF1, NF2, PBRM1, PIK3CA, and TGFBR1 were unfavorable mutations. In addition to age, sex, and node positive, favorable genes (HR = 0.15, 95% CI = 0.04–0.48, p = 0.001) and unfavorable genes (HR = 2.86, 95% CI = 1.51–5.29, p = 0.001) were identified as independent prognostic factors for DFS. Out of the 113 patients, only 35 received adjuvant treatment whereas the majority (78) did not. For patients with both favorable and unfavorable mutations undetected, adjuvant treatment showed negative effect on DFS (median DFS: S441 vs. 956 days, p = 0.010), but there was no significant difference in DFS among those in other mutational subgroups. Conclusions Genomic testing might be useful in guiding the decisions regarding adjuvant treatment in BTC.

The natural hazards caused by climate change have a significant impact on the production and life of urban residents, enhancing urban resilience is an important way to cope with climate disasters and ensure the safety of urban systems. Based on the “urban resilience” research relevant literature, the paper applies bibliometric analysis software to reveal the research hotspots and evolution trends of urban resilience in the perspective of climate change. The results indicate that the main research contents can be summarized into four aspects: ⅰ) influencing factors of urban resilience; ii) evaluation index and method of urban resilience; iii) the impact of climate change on urban resilience; ⅳ) Enhancing urban resilience in response to climate change. Finally, potential directions for future research on urban resilience were proposed, multi-dimensional research on urban resilience should be carried out from aspects of theoretical development, urban planning based on resilience mechanisms should be carried out from the perspective of planning practice, and innovation and reform should be carried out in policy implementation and urban management. Accurately understanding the conceptual connotation and construction mechanism of urban resilience is a crucial premise for climate mitigation and adaptation. Relevant research conclusions can provide useful reference for theoretical research and spatial planning of resilient cities.

ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to investigate the clinical efficacy of laparoscopic middle pancreatectomy in the treatment of benign and junctional tumors of the pancreas.MethodsRetrospective analysis of basic data, tumor diameter, statistical analysis, and evaluation of efficacy-related indicators such as operative time, intraoperative bleeding, pathological findings, postoperative hospital stay, postoperative pancreatic fistula incidence, and pancreatic endocrine function was carried out on 17 patients diagnosed with benign or low-grade malignant tumors of the pancreas and laparoscopic middle pancreatic resection from January 2018 to January 2023 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Normal University.ResultsA total of 17 patients were screened. There were eight males and nine females; mean age was 42.8 ± 17.4 years (range: 15–69 years); BMI was 22.6 ± 2.5 kg/m2 (range: 18.4–27.5 kg/m2), and the tumor size was 3.4 ± 1.2 cm (range: 1.5–5.5 cm). Preoperative glycan antigen CA19-9 was negative and CA125 was negative. Surgical time was 393.2 ± 57.9 min; intraoperative bleeding was 211.7 ± 113.9 ml; tumor diameter size was 3.4 ± 1.2 cm; postoperative admission time was 19.4 ± 7.6 days; postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) grading was 17 cases, including nine cases of A-grade fistula, three cases of B-grade fistula, and none of C-grade fistula; postoperative pathology results were five cases of plasmacytoma, three cases of mucinous cystadenoma, four cases of SPN (solid pseudopapillary neoplasm), one case of Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasm (IPMN), three cases of pancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasm (pNEN), one case of inflammatory myofibroblastic osteoblastoma. All cases did not develop pancreatic origin diabetes or exacerbation of previous diabetes, and no cases presented symptoms of exocrine insufficiency such as dyspepsia and diarrhea.ConclusionLaparoscopic middle pancreatectomy is safe and feasible in the treatment of benign or low-grade malignant tumors in the body of the pancreatic neck and is not accompanied by increased risk of intraoperative and postoperative complications and endocrine dysfunction of the pancreas.

The establishment of protected areas (PAs) is an effective way to biodiversity conservation while maintaining the multiple functions of ecosystem services. However, there is still a lack of comprehensive analysis on the relationship between PAs, biodiversity conservation, and ecological value in the field of research on prospects. Therefore, based on the research progress of literature content, this paper systematically reviews and evaluates domestic and international studies in terms of the biodiversity conservation and the ecological value of PAs. The results showed that relevant studies in recent years have mainly analyzed the spatial layout, area changes and conservation effectiveness of PAs in relation to biodiversity; By constructing the connotation system of ecological value concept of PAs, the research progress of ecological value accounting, ecological value realization and transformation, and ecological value types of PAs is further discussed, and the prospects of biodiversity conservation and ecological value research of PAs is proposed. This study provides a reference for the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the construction and optimization of PAs system.

This paper studies the problem of resolving data inconsistency from multiple sources in managing data related to power equipment for China’s state grid corporation. This paper proposes HENGE, a HEtetrogeneous Network GEneration model, to automatically align inconsistent devices from multiple sources, i.e., the same devices with multiple entries with different values in each source. HENGE builds multiple data sources into a heterogeneous graph, and captures complex physical and semantic relationships among devices. HENGE combines feature and relational information and improves alignment accuracy by feature-enhanced residual graph encoder and disentangled representation learning. HENGE can learn from a small amount of labeled data through a uniformity autoencoder trained on an unsupervised generation task. Experiments on two real-world datasets demonstrate the capability of HENGE in resolving inconsistent device entries in multiple sources.

Postural impairment in people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) is an early indicator of disease progression. Common measures of disease assessment are not sensitive to early-stage MS. Sample entropy (SE) may better identify early impairments. We compared the sensitivity and specificity of SE with linear measurements, differentiating pwMS (EDSS 0–4) from healthy controls (HC). 58 pwMS (EDSS ≤ 4) and 23 HC performed quiet standing tasks, combining a hard or foam surface with eyes open or eyes closed as a condition. Sway was recorded at the sternum and lumbar spine. Linear measures, mediolateral acceleration range with eyes open, mediolateral jerk with eyes closed, and SE in the anteroposterior and mediolateral directions were calculated. A multivariate ANOVA and AUC-ROC were used to determine between-groups differences and discriminative ability, respectively. Mild MS (EDSS ≤ 2.0) discriminability was secondarily assessed. Significantly lower SE was observed under most conditions in pwMS compared to HC, except for lumbar and sternum SE when on a hard surface with eyes closed and in the anteroposterior direction, which also offered the strongest discriminability (AUC = 0.747), even for mild MS. Overall, between-groups differences were task-dependent, and SE (anteroposterior, hard surface, eyes closed) was the best pwMS classifier. SE may prove a useful tool to detect subtle MS progression and intervention effectiveness.

In recent years, Nature-based Solutions (NbS) have become an important concept in the field of climate change and sustainable development. The study screens academic journals relevant NbS researches using China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and Web of Science database to explore different perspectives for Nature-based Solutions research through qualitative analysis. This study reviews the existing research on NbS, summarizes what research ideas are covered by Nature-based Solutions, as well as the relationship between previous relevant studies, focuses on different perspectives of refining the implementation of Nature-based Solutions in various studies and practices, and explains them with typical cases. The research shows that existing Nature-based Solutions researches mostly prefer to determine schemes by objects, with insufficient emphasis on subjects and goals. On this basis, the specific operational framework of promoting Nature-based Solutions in China is considered to promote the development of indigenous application of Nature-based Solutions in China. This study reveals the diversified ideas in the research and implementation of Nature-based Solutions at home and abroad, which is of practical significance to promote the localization of Nature-based Solutions in China.

Measuring regional differences in agricultural green total factor productivity (AGTFP) provides a basis for policy guidance on agricultural green development in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region. By constructing a two-period Malmquist-Luenberger index under the carbon emission constraint, we measure the AGTFP of cities in the YRD region from 2001 to 2019. Furthermore, adopting the Moran index method and the hot spot analysis method, this paper analyzes the global spatial correlation and local spatial correlation of AGTFP in this region. Moreover, we investigate its spatial convergence. The results show that the AGTFP of 41 cities in the YRD region is on an increasing trend; the growth of AGTFP in the eastern cities is mainly driven by green technical efficiency, while this growth in the southern cities is mainly stimulated by green technical efficiency and green technological progress. We also find a significant spatial correlation between cities' AGTFP in the YRD region from 2001 to 2019, but with certain fluctuations, showing a U-shaped trend of "strong-weak-strong". In addition, absolute β convergence of the AGTFP exists in the YRD region, and this convergence speed is accelerated with the addition of spatial factors. This evidence provides support for implementing the regional integration development strategy and optimizing the regional agricultural spatial layout. Our findings offer implications for promoting the transfer of green agricultural technology to the southwest of the YRD region, strengthening the construction of agricultural economic belts and agricultural economic circles, and improving the efficiency of agricultural resource use.

Abstract Since three‐phase transformerless (TPT) PV inverters have large common mode leakage current (CMLC), a TPT PV inverter without CMLC is proposed. The proposed inverter is derived from three single‐phase half‐bridge inverters and a boost converter. Grounds of the PV array and three‐phase loads are connected directly, so no CMLC exists in the TPT solar inverter. Operating principle, stability analysis, and loss calculation and example of the proposed three‐phase inverter are illustrated in detail. The pulse‐width modulation (PWM) and sinusoidal PWM control methods are used in the boost converter and three‐phase inverter, respectively. The proposed inverter is a stable system. Finally, simulation and experimental results of a 900‐W TPT PV inverter confirm the theoretical analysis. The CMLC in the proposed inverter is only about 0.8 mA, which is mainly caused by the ground line inductance and oscilloscope probe noise.

High speed wireless communications are highly desirable for many industrial and scientific underwater applications. Acoustic communications suffer from high latency and limited data rates, while Radio Frequency communications are severely limited by attenuation in seawater. Optical communications are a promising alternative, offering high transmission rates (up to Gb/s), while water has relatively low attenuation at visible wavelengths. Here we demonstrate the use of series-connected micro-light-emitting-diode (μLED) arrays consisting of 6 μLED pixels either 60 μm or 80 μm in diameter and operating at 450 nm. These devices increase the output power whilst maintaining relatively high modulation bandwidth. Using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) we demonstrate underwater wireless data transmission at rates of up to 4.92 Gb/s, 3.22 Gb/s and 3.4 Gb/s over 1.5 m, 3 m and 4.5 m, respectively, with corresponding bit error ratios (BERs) of 1.5 × 10-3, 1.1 × 10-3 and 3.1 × 10-3, through clear tap water, and Mb/s rates through >5 attenuation lengths (ALs) in turbid waters.

In recent years, great development in sensor technologies have resulted in substantial progress in the construction efficiency and the degree of automation of construction machinery have made great progress. Applications of the sensor technologies, such as condition monitoring, autonomous construction and the Internet of Things (IoT), have been extensively studied for construction machinery. Firstly, this paper discusses the condition monitoring technology in construction machinery, which mainly involves the monitoring of oil pollution and leakage, vibration monitoring, emission monitoring and whole-system monitoring. Second, regarding autonomous construction technology, this paper conducts analysis and discussion on linear motion, rotary motion, navigation/positioning systems, and visual systems. Third, research on IoT technology in construction machinery is comprehensively discussed, especially in term of life cycle maintenance, construction management and safety management. Finally, higher reliability, the development of smart sensors and big data management of sensor information are described as prospective issues that must be addressed for future construction machinery.

In a humid environment, the stray current generated by subway operation will corrode the underground pipe network and the internal steel structure of the track plate, which will seriously affect the service life of the subway track plate and increase the maintenance cost later. Groundwater in subway projects mainly enters the concrete interior through capillary action and affects the concrete resistivity, and there is a lack of research on the mechanism of groundwater effect on concrete resistance. In this study, the variation of cement mortar resistivity with capillary water absorption time for cement mortar with different amounts of mineral admixtures (fly ash, ground-granulated blast furnace slag, and silica fume) was measured by the four-electrode method, and the mechanism of the influence of the electrical properties of cementitious materials under the effect of capillary water absorption was analyzed based on the mercury-pressure method (MIP) and thermogravimetric method (TG-DTG). The results show that with the increase in capillary water absorption time, the change curve of cement mortar resistivity can be divided into two stages; in the first stage, capillary water absorption leads to gel pores and transition pores quickly connecting to capillary pores and other large pores to form a water-saturated conductive pathway, resulting in a rapid decrease in resistivity, when the gel pores and excessive pores have a greater impact on resistivity. The second stage is that of capillary water absorption, to a certain extent, after the specimen’s internal water upward development rate slows down; at this time, the formation speed of the conductive pathway decreases, resulting in the rate of change in resistivity decreasing and gradually stabilizing. The incorporation of silica fume can effectively improve the resistivity of cementitious materials under the action of capillary water absorption, in which the resistivity of specimens incorporated with 15% silica fume after 36 days of capillary water absorption is 10.39 times that of the reference group, which is mainly due to its lower porosity and a higher percentage of gel pores.

P(VDF-TrFE) is a promising material for flexible acoustic devices owing to its good piezoelectric performance and excellent stretchability. However, the high density of internal pores and large surface roughness of the conventional P(VDF-TrFE) results in a high propagation attenuation for acoustic waves, which limits its use in flexible acoustic devices. In this paper, a novel method based on two-step annealing is proposed to effectively remove the pores inside the P(VDF-TrFE) film and reduce its surface roughness. The obtained P(VDF-TrFE) film possesses excellent characteristics, including a high breakdown strength of >300 kV/mm, a high-purity β-phase content of more than 80%, and high piezoelectric coefficients (d33) of 42 pm/V. Based on the low-porosity β-phase P(VDF-TrFE) film, we fabricated flexible film bulk acoustic resonators (FBARs) which exhibit high sharp resonance peaks. The pressure sensor was made by sandwiching the FBARs with two PDMS microneedle patches. Heartbeat and respiration rate monitoring were achieved using the pressure sensor. This work demonstrates the feasibility of high-performance flexible piezoelectric acoustic resonators based on low-porosity P(VDF-TrFE) films, which could see wider applications in the wearable sensors for both physical and chemical sensing.

Orixa japonica Thunb. is an important medicinal plant belonging to the family Rutaceae. In this study, we determined the the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of O. japonica, which was 158,525 bp in length containing one large single copy region (85,965 bp), one small single copy region (18,552 bp), and a pair of inverted repeat regions (27,004 bp each). A total of 134 genes were annotated in the cp genome, including 88 protein coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, eight rRNA genes, and one pseudo gene ycf1. According to the phylogenetic analysis, O. japonica clustered together with Casimiroa edulis with high bootstrap value, indicating a close genetic relationship with subfamily Amyridoideae.

Polygonum cuspidatum Siebold & Zucc. is a well-known and widely used medical plant to treat arthritis, gout and inflammation. In this study, we determined the complete chloroplast genome sequence of P. cuspidatum from Zhejiang Province. The assembled chloroplast (cp) genome was 163,183 bp in length, containing two inverted repeated (IR) regions of 30,859 bp each, a large single copy (LSC) region of 87,905 bp, and a small single copy (SSC) region of 13,560 bp. The genome encodes 131 genes, consisting of 86 protein-coding, 37 tRNA, and eight rRNA genes. The overall GC content of P. cuspidatum is 37.53%, with the highest GC content of 41.27% in the IR region. The 86 protein-coding genes encode 27,597 amino acids in total, most of which use the initiation codon ATG, except the ndhD gene which starts with ACG. The length of the tRNA genes range from 48 bp to 88 bp, with the highest GC content of 62.16% in tRNA-Arg (ACG) and tRNA-Asp (GUC). A total of 66 simple sequence repeats are identified in the cp of P. cuspidatum. Phylogenetic analysis indicated a sister relationship between P. cuspidatum and Fallopia sachalinensis, suggesting a close genetic relationship between the genera of Polygonum and Fallopia. This work provides basic genetic resources for investigating the evolutionary status and population genetics of this important medicinal species.

The kinds and proportions of triglycerides of human mature milk play an independent role in the growth of infants. In this study, the human milk samples obtained from eight different Chinese cities (Chengdu, Weihai, Lanzhou, Jinhua, Beijing, Guangzhou, Zhengzhou, and Harbin) and six sequential mature lactation times (30, 60, 90, 120, 150, and 180 days) were detected for the triglycerides. The result demonstrated that total 66 triglycerides were detected in mature human milk, with acyl carbon number (ACN) numbers were locating in the range of 34–54 and double bond (DB) numbers were locating in the range of 0–6. In addition, the percentage of OPO, OPL, and OOO was relatively higher than others, accounted for more than 4% of total triglycerides in all the lactation areas and times, and the percentage of U2S and LLL triglycerides was also richest in mature milk. Furthermore, it was obvious that lactation regions had more significant effect on the triglycerides compared with lactation time and the triacylglycerols (TAGs) of human milk in Guangzhou were clearly different from that in other regions. Therefore, the results of this study will provide data reference for the design of infant formula suitable for Chinese babies.

Oxalis corymbosa DC. is an important medicinal and edible perennial herb belonging to the wood-sorrel family Oxalidaceae. In this study, we report the complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of O. corymbosa. The assembled chloroplast genome was 151,351 bp in length, containing two inverted repeated (IR) regions of 24,587 bp each, a large single copy (LSC) region of 85,476 bp, and a small single copy (SSC) region of 16,701 bp. The genome encodes 128 genes, consisting of 82 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, eight rRNA genes, and one pseudogene (ycf1). The 82 protein-coding genes encode 25,751 amino acids in total, most of which use the initiation codon ATG, except rps19 and psbC genes start with GTG. The lengths of the tRNA genes range from 71 bp to 93 bp, with the highest GC content of 62.16% in tRNA-Arg (ACG). The overall GC content of O. corymbosa is 36.47%, with the highest GC content of 42.64% in IR region. In addition, a total of 74 simple sequence repeats were identified in the cp genome of O. corymbosa. Phylogenetic analysis indicated a sister relationship between O. corymbosa and O. drummondii, suggesting a close genetic relationship between the two Oxalis species. This work provides basic genetic resources for investigating the evolutionary status and population genetics diversities for this medicinal species.

Retinal degeneration (RD) is one of the most common causes of visual impairment and blindness and is characterized by progressive degeneration of photoreceptors. Transplantation of neural stem/progenitor cells (NPCs) is a promising treatment for RD, although the mechanisms underlying the efficacy remain unclear. Accumulated evidence supports the notion that paracrine effects of transplanted stem cells is likely the major approach to rescuing early degeneration, rather than cell replacement. NPC-derived exosomes (NPC-exos), a type of extracellular vesicles (EVs) released from NPCs, are thought to carry functional molecules to recipient cells and play therapeutic roles. In present study, we found that grafted human NPCs (hNPCs) secreted EVs and exosomes in the subretinal space (SRS) of RCS rats, an RD model. And direct administration of mouse neural progenitor cell-derived exosomes (mNPC-exos) delayed photoreceptor degeneration, preserved visual function, prevented thinning of the outer nuclear layer (ONL), and decreased apoptosis of photoreceptors in RCS rats. Mechanistically, mNPC-exos were specifically internalized by retinal microglia and suppressed their activation in vitro and in vivo. RNA sequencing and miRNA profiling revealed a set of 17 miRNAs contained in mNPC-exos that markedly inhibited inflammatory signal pathways by targeting TNF-α, IL-1β, and COX-2 in activated microglia. The exosomes derived from hNPC (hNPC-exos) contained similar miRNAs to mNPC-exos that inhibited microglial activation. We demonstrated that NPC-exos markedly suppressed microglial activation to protect photoreceptors from apoptosis, suggesting that NPC-exos and their contents may be the mechanism of stem cell therapy for treating RD.

The magnetic properties of a β-Mn-type alloy Co _7 Zn _8 Mn _5 , which is a chiral magnet hosting skyrmion phase, are comprehensively investigated, exhibiting a ferromagnetic transition around 184 K and a spin freezing near 20 K. The generated Rhodes–Wolfarth ratio equals 1.10, which indicates a weak itinerant character of the ferromagnetism in Co _7 Zn _8 Mn _5 . The spin dynamics of the spin freezing agrees with the universal scaling law of critical slowing down with τ _0 = 1.7 × 10 ^−5 s, T _g = 20.2 K, and zν = 3.92. Critical exponents β = 0.423(1) and γ = 1.366(4) are deduced by the modified Arrott plot, whereas δ = 4.22(2) is obtained by a critical isotherm analysis. The validity of the deduced critical exponents is verified by the Widom scaling relation and the scaling hypothesis. The boundary between the first-order and the second-order phase transition is evaluated by a scaling analysis. The magnetic interaction, obtained by a renormalization group theory, decays with distance r as J ( r ) ≈ r ^−4.9 , lying between the mean-field model and the 3D Heisenberg model. The analyses on critical behavior could shed new light on the origin of ferromagnetism and topological Hall effect. Moreover, the magnetic entropy change −Δ S _M exhibits a maximal value around T _C , and the peak position gradually raises with an increasing fields, eliminating the mean-field model. The $-{\Delta}{S}_{\mathrm{M}}^{\mathrm{max}}\enspace $ features a power-law behavior with n > 2/3, excluding any universal standard models of ferromagnetism. The −Δ S _M ( T , H ) plots can be scaled into a universal curve, further verifying the reliability and accuracy of the yielded critical exponents.

Ramie (Boehmeria nivea L. Gaud) is a traditional fiber crop and important medicinal plant belonging to the family Urticaceae. In this study, we determine the complete chloroplast genome sequence of B. nivea. The assembled chloroplast genome is 156065 bp in length and shares the conserved quadripartite structure as other cp genomes in Boehmeria. The genome contains 131 genes, including 84 protein genes, 8 rRNA genes, 37 tRNA genes and 2 pseudo genes. There are 17 duplicated genes in the IR region. The overall GC content of B. nivea is 36.33%, with the highest GC content of 42.72% in IR region. A total of 67 simple sequence repeats are identified in the cp genome of B. nivea. Phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that B. nivea clustered together with B. tomentosa, further forming a monophyletic group with the species of Debregeasia and Pipturus. This work provides basic genetic resources for developing robust markers and investigating the population genetics diversities for B. nivea.

High-protein diet could cause an increase in protein fermentation in the large intestine, leading to an increased production of potentially detrimental metabolites. We hypothesized that an increase in corn resistant starch content may attenuate the protein fermentation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of resistant starch on protein fermentation by inocula from large intestine of pigs using in vitro cultivation. Fermentation patterns were analyzed during a 24-h incubation of cecal and colonic digesta with varying corn resistant starch contents, using casein protein as sole nitrogen source. We demonstrate the development, performance, and application of a GaN-based micro-light emitting diode ( $\mu$LED) array sharing a common p-electrode (anode), and with individually addressable n-electrodes (cathodes). Compared to conventional GaN-based LED arrays, this array design employs a reversed structure of common and individual electrodes, which makes it innovative and compatible with n-type metal-oxide-semiconductor (NMOS) transistor-based drivers for faster modulation. Excellent performance characteristics are illustrated by an example array emitting at 450 nm. At a current density of 17.7 kA/cm$^2$ in direct-current operation, the optical power and small signal electrical-to-optical modulation bandwidth of a single $\mu$LED element with 24 $\mu$m diameter are over 2.0 mW and 440 MHz, respectively. The optimized fabrication process also ensures a high yield of working $\mu$LED elements per array and excellent element-to-element uniformity of electrical/optical characteristics. Results on visible light communication are presented as an application of an array integrated with an NMOS driver. Data transmission at several hundred Mb/s without bit error is achieved for single- and multiple-$\mu$ LED-element operations, under an on–off-keying modulation scheme. Transmission of stepped sawtooth waveforms is also demonstrated to confirm that the $\mu$ LED elements can transmit discrete multilevel signals.

Yak (Bos grunniens) is an animal mainly living on the Tibetan Plateau. Yak skin is a valuable resource that is wasted in the meat production process. This study aimed to prepare yak skin gelatin hydrolysates (YSGH) from yak skin through enzymatic hydrolysis and investigate functional characterization of YSGH. We showed that trypsin was more effective than neutrase, papain, and pepsin in increasing the degree of hydrolysis (DH) of YSGH. The conditions of enzymatic hydrolysis were optimized using central composite design (CCD) and response surface method (RSM), and the highest DH value of 31.96% was obtained. We then analyzed the amino acid compositions and molecular weight distribution of peptides in YSGH. The obtained YSGH exhibited certain antioxidant activity and excellent ACE-inhibitory activity (IC50 = 0.991 mg/mL). In addition, the solubility (98.79%), emulsification, and foaming properties of YSGH developed here were also evaluated. With these physicochemical and biological functions, YSGH had potential applications in food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics as an ingredient.

MTO1, together with MSS1 and MTO2, is a gene involved in the pathway of encoding a mitochondria-specific RNA-modifying enzyme related to the post-transcriptional modification of mitochondrial tRNAs. We have previously shown that a mutation of the MTO2 or MSS1 gene can suppress the neomycin-sensitive phenotype of yeast carrying a mitochondrial 15S rRNA C1477G mutation. Here we report that a null mutation of MTO1 also can inhibit the aminoglycoside-sensitivity of yeast carrying mitochondrial 15S rRNA C1477G mutation. The C1477G mutation corresponds to the human 12S rRNA A1555G mutation. Yeast with an mtDNA C1477G mutation exhibits hypersensitivity to neomycin and displays mitochondrial function impairment beyond neomycin treatment. When the mto1 null mutation and mitochondrial C1477G mutation coexist, the yeast strain shows growth recovery. The deletion of the nuclear gene MTO1 regulates neomycin sensitivity in yeast carrying the mitochondrial 15S rRNA C1477G mutation. MTO1 deletion causes the expression levels of the key glycolytic genes HXK2, PFK1 and PYK1 to become significantly up-regulated. The energy deficit due to impaired mitochondrial function was partially compensated by the energy generated by glycolysis. Being in the same pathway, the regulation of MTO1, MSS1 and MTO2 to the neomycin-sensitivity of yeast showed difference in the growth activity of strains, mitochondrial function and the expression level of glycolytic genes.

The phenotypic manifestation of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations can be modulated by nuclear genes and environmental factors. However, neither the interaction among these factors nor their underlying mechanisms are well understood. The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae mtDNA 15S rRNA C1477G mutation (PR) corresponds to the human 12S rRNA A1555G mutation. Here we report that a nuclear modifier gene mss1 mutation suppresses the neomycin-sensitivity phenotype of a yeast C1477G mutant in fermentable YPD medium. Functional assays show that the mitochondrial function of the yeast C1477G mutant was impaired severely in YPD medium with neomycin. Moreover, the mss1 mutation led to a significant increase in the steady-state level of HAP5 (heme activated protein), which greatly up-regulated the expression of glycolytic transcription factors RAP1, GCR1, and GCR2 and thus stimulated glycolysis. Furthermore, the high expression of the key glycolytic enzyme genes HXK2, PFK1 and PYK1 indicated that enhanced glycolysis not only compensated for the ATP reduction from oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) in mitochondria, but also ensured the growth of the mss1(PR) mutant in YPD medium with neomycin. This study advances our understanding of the phenotypic manifestation of mtDNA mutations.

The phenotypic manifestations of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations are modulated by mitochondrial DNA haplotypes, nuclear modifier genes and environmental factors. The yeast mitochondrial 15S rRNA C1477G (P(R) or P(R) 454) mutation corresponds to the human 12S rRNA C1494T and A1555G mutations, which are well known as primary factors for aminoglycoside-induced nonsyndromic deafness. Here we report that the deletion of the nuclear modifier gene MTO2 suppressed the aminoglycoside-sensitivity of mitochondrial 15S rRNA C1477G mutation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. First, the strain with a single mtDNA C1477G mutation exhibited hypersensitivity to neomycin. Functional assays indicated that the steady-state transcription level of mitochondrial DNA, the mitochondrial respiratory rate, and the membrane potential decreased significantly after neomycin treatment. The impaired mitochondria could not produce sufficient energy to maintain cell viability. Second, when the mto2 null and the mitochondrial C1477G mutations co-existed (mto2(P(R))), the oxygen consumption rate in the double mutant decreased markedly compared to that of the control strains (MTO2(P(S)), mto2(P(S)) and MTO2(P(R))). The expression levels of the key glycolytic genes HXK2, PFK1 and PYK1 in the mto2(P(R)) strain were stimulated by neomycin and up-regulated by 89%, 112% and 55%, respectively. The enhanced glycolysis compensated for the respiratory energy deficits, and could be inhibited by the glycolytic enzyme inhibitor. Our findings in yeast will provide a new insight into the pathogenesis of human deafness.

The cardinality balanced multi-target multi-Bernoulli (CBMeMBer) filter developed recently has been proved an effective multi-target tracking (MTT) algorithm based on the random finite set (RFS) theory, and it can jointly estimate the number of targets and their states from a sequence of sensor measurement sets. However, because of the existence of systematic errors in sensor measurements, the CBMeMBer filter can easily produce different levels of performance degradation. In this paper, an extended CBMeMBer filter, in which the joint probability density function of target state and systematic error is recursively estimated, is proposed to address the MTT problem based on the sensor measurements with systematic errors. In addition, an analytic implementation of the extended CBMeMBer filter is also presented for linear Gaussian models. Simulation results confirm that the proposed algorithm can track multiple targets with better performance.
