Abstract Background At present, hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is an important complication of partial hepatectomy and liver transplantation, and it is an important cause of poor prognosis. Spleen tyrosine kinase(SYK) plays an important role in a variety of signaling pathways in the liver, but its role in hepatic IRI is still unclear. This study aims to investigate the role and mechanism of SYK in hepatic IRI and tumor recurrence. Methods We first observed the activation of SYK in the liver of mice in response to hepatic IRI. Subsequently, Pharmacological inhibitions of SYK were used to evaluated the effect of SYK on neutrophil recruitment and NETosis, and further explored the effect of SYK on IRI and tumor recurrence. Results Our study shows that SYK is activated in response to hepatic IRI and aggravates liver injury. On the one hand, neutrophils SYK during the early stage of liver reperfusion increases neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) production by promoting Pyruvate kinase M2(PKM2) nuclear translocation leading to upregulation of phosphorylated STAT3, thereby exacerbating liver inflammation and tumor recurrence. On the other hand, macrophages SYK can promote the recruitment of neutrophils and increase the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome and IL1β, which further promotes the formation of NETs. Conclusions Our study demonstrates that neutrophil and macrophage SYK synergistically promote hepatic IRI and tumor recurrence, and SYK may be a potential target to improve postoperative hepatic IRI and tumor recurrence.

Abstract Background To investigate the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between depressive symptoms and the prevalence of frailty and its components in a nationally representative sample of middle-aged and older Chinese adults. Method The China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) provided data on 2581 (after inclusion and exclusion criteria) adults aged ≥ 45 years. Every two years, face-to-face, computer-aided personal interviews (CAPI), and structured questionnaires were used to follow up with the respondents. The Chinese version of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D) was used to evaluate depressive symptoms, and the Fried criteria were used to measure frailty. The odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for the association of exposure (depressive symptoms at baseline) with the onset of the outcome (frailty and its components) in the individuals at baseline were analyzed by binary logistic regression. Results At baseline, 11.62% of participants had frailty, and 57.92% had depressive symptoms. In the cross-sectional analysis, depressive symptoms (OR = 5.222, 95%CI 3.665–7.442) were associated with frailty. In the longitudinal analysis, after adjusting for the full set of covariates among participants free of baseline frailty, depressive symptoms were significantly associated with incident frailty during the short term (OR = 2.193, 95%CI 1.324–3.631) and the long term (OR = 1.926, 95%CI 1.021–3.632). Meanwhile, depressive symptoms were associated with an increased risk of weakness (OR = 1.990, 95%CI 1.250–3.166), slowness (OR = 1.395, 95%CI 1.044–1.865), and exhaustion (OR = 2.827, 95%CI 2.150–3.719) onset during the short-term. Depressive symptoms were associated with an increased risk of exhaustion (OR = 2.869, 95%CI 2.004–4.109) onset during the long-term. Conclusion Among middle-aged and older adults, depressive symptoms could predict frailty during 2 years of follow-up and 4 years of follow-up. When considering potential confounding factors, depressive symptoms were considered a predictor of weakness, slowness, and exhaustion. Interventions aimed at preventing depressive symptoms may be beneficial in reducing frailty and its components.

Abstract Aiming at the problem that traditional methods are difficult to fully utilize the rich spectral information in hyperspectral images (HSI) and fail to capture the complex higher‐order relations in hyperspectral data, which leads to limited classification performance extreme learning machine and fails to further improve the classification accuracy of HSIs, the authors propose the hypergraph convolutional extreme learning machine (HGCELM) method. The method not only inherits all the advantages of extreme learning machine (ELM), but also embeds hypergraph convolution for feature selection, which is capable of handling higher‐order relations. This enables HGCELM to capture more complex relationships between nodes and provide richer representation capabilities. At the same time, the training speed advantage of ELM is retained, thus speeding up the model training process. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves better accuracy compared to other clustering algorithms.

Abstract Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV; genus Tobamovirus) is one of the most prevailing pathogens that seriously affects the quality and yield of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) leaves. Cross-protection using mild strains is a potential strategy for the biological prevention of plant viral diseases. Complementary mutations in attenuated strains may cause attenuated ones to suddenly evolve into virulent strains, which limits the application of cross-protection in practice. To data there has been no study on engineering the complementary mutation sites to generate stable attenuated mutants for cross-protection. In this study, we found that the substitution of the conserved arginine at position 88 (R88) in p126 protein with alanine (A) abolished the cell-to-cell movement and reduced the replication of TMV. However, a spontaneous complementary mutation of serine at position 114 (S114) to lysine (K) in p126 restored TMV virulence. Substitution of S114 with R in p126 restored the systemic infection but not the virulence of TMV, therefore, the mutant TMV-R88A/S114R was an attenuated one. Furthermore, our results showed that TMV-R88A/S114R was a stable attenuated mutant, and could effectively protect tobacco plants against the wild-type TMV infection. This study reports a promising TMV mild mutant for cross-protection in tobacco plants by modifying the complementary mutation site in p126.

Abstract Background Nurses play an important role in healthcare development. The increasing demands for nurses mean that nursing schools at the undergraduate level have the responsibility to ensure patient safety and quality care through a well-designed curriculum. This research aimed to evaluate the effect of the teaching method combined with situational awareness and case-based seminars in a comprehensive nursing skills practice course on the level of self-directed learning, professional identity, academic self-efficacy, theoretical scores, practical scores, teaching satisfaction, and student competence among nursing students. Methods The research population comprised was of the grades of 2019 and 2020 at Wannan Medical College in Anhui Province, China (n = 169, response rate 77.88%). The observation group from grade 2020 used the teaching method combined with situational awareness and case-based seminars, whereas the control group from grade 2019 used the traditional teaching mode. General information, self-directed learning, a professional identity, and academic self-efficacy were compared between the two groups. This research used means and standard deviations, chi-square, the Shapiro–Wilk test, and an independent sample t-test for statistical analyses. Results Compared with the control group, the total scores for self-directed learning, professional identity, and academic self-efficacy were higher in the observation group (78.80 ± 7.89 vs 60.21 ± 7.44, 63.39 ± 7.87 vs 52.35 ± 7.68, and 22.31 ± 3.30 vs 21.28 ± 2.31, respectively, with P 0.05). Conclusion The teaching method combined with situational awareness and case-based seminars in a comprehensive nursing skills practice course has the potential to improve the level of self-directed learning, professional identity, and academic self-efficacy, and it increases theoretical scores, practical scores, teaching satisfaction, and student competence.

Nonwoven fabric defect detection is an essential part of the production process, and it is important to realize fast and accurate nonwoven fabric defect detection to improve production efficiency. Aiming at the problems of nonwoven fabric defect detection in which most defect targets are small and traditional industrial cameras are unable to recognize foreign impurities of the same color, a nonwoven fabric defect detection method based on hyperspectral imaging and improved YOLOv5 is proposed. Specifically, hyperspectral imaging technology is used to replace traditional vision and solve the problem of homochromatic foreign matter impurities from the dimension of spectrum. In addition, the LSK attention module is introduced into the YOLOv5 backbone network, which enables the network to learn the key feature information and enhance the detection of small targets. Finally, an improved light repetitive group frequency permutation network (Light-RepGFPN) is proposed in the neck structure, by which the feature fusion capability of the model is enhanced, so that the high-level semantic information and the low-level spatial information are fully fused to improve the detection accuracy. Combined with the LSK and Light-RepGFPN modules, we propose an improved YOLOv5 (LL-YOLOv5) defect detection network. It is experimentally proved that LL-YOLOv5 can achieve an average accuracy mean 90.3% in the nonwoven fabric hyperspectral image defects dataset, which is 2.2% higher than that of the original model, respectively.

Stabilizing the CMOS-compatible low-temperature Au-free GaN Ohmic contact is a critical work that determines the performance and yield of GaN power HEMTs in mass production. The instability of this contact has been puzzling the industry and academia for years. In this work, an overlooked factor, fluorine injection, is unambiguously verified to widely exist during dielectric etching and can easily destroy the low-temperature GaN Ohmic contact formation. The injection depth is confirmed to be over 30 nm with a fluorine peak concentration of 1023 at/cm3 in vicinity of the surface. Traditional method of partial AlGaN recessing with a pretty tiny processing window is proven unfriendly for production and vulnerable to the fluorine injection. Two methods to get rid of the fluorine are proposed. The first one is to over-etch the AlGaN barrier to the GaN channel to fully remove the fluorine ions. The second is to deposit an etch-stop blocking layer of Al2O3, which is also compatible with CMOS process.

After the closure of the Yudong coal mine, the pH value was approximately 3.0, and the Fe and Mn concentrations reached 380 and 69 mg/L, respectively, in the acid mine drainage (AMD), causing serious pollution to the water bodies in the nearby watershed. Combined with the formation conditions of AMD, the comprehensive treatment technology of source reduction–end treatment is adopted to treat the AMD. The treatment area of the goaf is 0.3 km3, the filling and grouting volume is about 6.7 m3, and the curtain grouting volume is 4,000 m3. Through the grouting and sealing treatment in the goaf, the water volume is reduced to less than 85% of the initial volume (100 m3/h). After the end treatment, the pH value of the effluent is around 7.0, the content of Fe and Mn is less than 0.1 mg/L, and the removal rate is above 99%. The project was subsequently operated at RMB 0.85 yuan/t. This project is aimed at the treatment of AMD from small coal mines in complex terrain conditions. It has the characteristics of low cost and high efficiency and can provide an effective treatment technology for AMD in southwestern China and areas with the same geological conditions. HIGHLIGHTS Combining grouting and sealing technology with end technology to jointly treat AMD.; This technology reduces the amount of mine water by more than 85%, elevates the pH of AMD to neutral, and the removal rate of Fe and Mn is greater than 99%.; Provides an economical and effective treatment method for acidic mining wastewater treatment.;

The conventional surface electromyography (sEMG)-based gesture recognition systems exhibit impressive performance in controlled laboratory settings. As most systems are trained in a closed-set setting, the systems’s performance may see significant deterioration when novel gestures are presented as imposter. In addition, the state-of-the-art generative and discriminative methods have achieved considerable performance on high-density sEMG signals. This can be seen as an unrealistic setting as the real-world muscle computer interface are mainly comprised of sparse multichannel sEMG signals. In this work, we propose a novel variational autoencoder based approach for open-set gesture recognition based on sparse multichannel sEMG signals. Using the predefined corresponding latent conditional distribution of known gestures, the conditional Gaussian distribution of each known gesture is learned. Those samples with low probability density are identified as unknown gestures. The sEMG signals of known gestures are classified using the Kullback-Leibler divergences between the predefined prior distributions and input samples. The proposed approach is evaluated using three benchmark sparse multichannel sEMG databases. The experimental results demonstrate that our approach outperforms the existing open-set sEMG-based gesture recognition approaches and achieves a better trade-off between classifying known gestures and rejecting unknown gestures.

Background & Aims: Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury is a significant complication of partial hepatic resection and liver transplantation, impacting the prognosis of patients undergoing liver surgery. The protein proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) is primarily synthesized by hepatocytes and has been implicated in myocardial ischemic diseases. However, the role of PCSK9 in hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the role and mechanism of PCSK9 in hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury. Methods: We first examined the expression of PCSK9 in mouse warm ischemia-reperfusion models and AML12 cells subjected to hypoxia/reoxygenation. Subsequently, we explored the impact of PCSK9 on liver ischemia-reperfusion injury by assessing mitochondrial damage and the resulting inflammatory response. Results: Our findings reveal that PCSK9 is up-regulated in response to ischemia-reperfusion injury and exacerbates hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury. Blocking PCSK9 can alleviate hepatocyte mitochondrial damage and the consequent inflammatory response mediated by ischemia-reperfusion. Mechanistically, this protective effect is dependent on mitophagy. Conclusions: Inhibiting PCSK9 in hepatocytes attenuates the inflammatory responses triggered by reactive oxygen species and mitochondrial DNA by promoting PINK1-Parkin–mediated mitophagy. This, in turn, ameliorates hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury.

In China, the porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) has undergone several variations over the decades and contributed to the diversity of the clinical epidemic PRRSV strains. This has complicated the prevention and control of PRRS. In particular, the efficacy of the currently available commercial vaccines against the highly pathogenic NADC34-like strains is unclear. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the protection efficacy of three commercial PRRS modified-live virus (MLV) vaccines derived from classical PRRS VR2332 MLV and R98 MLV against challenge with a heterologous NADC34-like PRRSV strain, JS2021NADC34, which has high pathogenicity in pigs. PRRSV- and antibody-free piglets were immunized with the PRRS VR2332 MLV vaccine or either of two R98 MLV vaccines (from different manufacturers) and were challenged with the JS2021NADC34 strain 28 days after immunization. Rectal temperature, clinical symptoms, viremia and viral shedding from the nose, gross lesions in the thymus and lungs, microscopic lesions and viral distribution in the lungs, as well as the humoral immune response and mortality rates were recorded over a 14-day post-challenge period. The results showed that PRRS VR2332 MLV had better efficacy against the JS2021NADC34 challenge than PRRS R98 MLV, with vaccinated piglets in the former group showing transient and mild symptoms, mild pathological lesions in the lungs, mild thymic atrophy, and low viral levels in sera and nasal swabs, as well as better growth performance and a 100% survival rate. In contrast, two PRRS R98 MLVs exhibited limited efficacy against the JS2021NADC34 challenge, with the piglets in two R98 groups showing obvious clinical symptoms and pathological changes in the lungs and thymus; moreover, there were two deaths caused by PRRS in two R98 groups, respectively. Despite this, the mortality rate was lower than that of the unvaccinated piglets that were challenged with JS2021NADC34. The cumulative results demonstrate that PRRS VR2332 MLV was partly effective against the highly pathogenic PRRSV NADC34-like strain based on the observations over the 14-day post-challenge period. Thus, it might be a viable option among the commercially available vaccines for control of NADC34-like virus infections in swine herds.

Abstract The yellow peach moth, Conogethes punctiferalis, is a highly polyphagous pest widespread in eastern and southern Asia. It demonstrates a unique ability to adapt to rotten host fruits and displays resistance to pathogenic microorganisms, including fungi. However, the lack of available genomic resources presents a challenge in comprehensively understanding the evolution of its innate immune genes. Here, we report a high-quality chromosome-level reference genome for C. punctiferalis utilizing PacBio HiFi sequencing and Hi-C technology. The genome assembly was 494 Mb in length with a contig N50 of 3.25 Mb. We successfully anchored 1,226 contigs to 31 pseudochromosomes. Our BUSCO analysis further demonstrated a gene coverage completeness of 96.3% in the genome assembly. Approximately 43% repeat sequences and 21,663 protein-coding genes were identified. In addition, we resequenced 110 C. punctiferalis individuals from east China, achieving an average coverage of 18.4 × and identifying 5.8 million high-quality SNPs. This work provides a crucial resource for understanding the evolutionary mechanism of C. punctiferalis’ innate immune system and will help in developing new antibacterial drugs.

Abstract Protecting human health from fine particulate matter (PM) pollution is the ambitious goal of clean air actions, but current control strategies largely ignore the role of source-specific PM toxicity. Here, we proposed health-oriented control strategies by integrating the unequal toxic potencies of the most polluting industrial PMs. Iron and steel industry (ISI)-emitted PM2.5 exhibit about one order of magnitude higher toxic potency than those of cement and power industries. Compared with the current mass-based control strategy (prioritizing implementation of ultralow emission standards in the power sector), the proposed health-oriented control strategy (priority control of the ISI sector) could generate 5.4 times higher reduction in population-weighted toxic potency-adjusted PM2.5 exposure among polluting industries in China. Furthermore, the marginal abatement cost per unit of toxic potency-adjusted mass of ISI-emitted PM2.5 is only a quarter of that of the other two sectors under ultralow emission scenarios. We highlight that a health-oriented air pollution control strategy is urgently required to achieve cost-effective reductions in particulate exposure risks.

The application of GaN HEMTs on silicon substrates in high-voltage environments is significantly limited due to their complex buffer layer structure and the difficulty in controlling wafer warpage. In this work, we successfully fabricated GaN power HEMTs on 6-inch sapphire substrates using a CMOS-compatible process. A 1.5 µm thin GaN buffer layer with excellent uniformity and a 20 nm in situ SiN gate dielectric ensured uniformly distributed VTH and RON across the entire 6-inch wafer. The fabricated devices with an LGD of 30 µm and WG of 36 mm exhibited an RON of 18.06 Ω·mm and an off-state breakdown voltage of over 3 kV. The electrical mapping visualizes the high uniformity of RON and VTH distributed across the whole 6-inch wafer, which is of great significance in promoting the applications of GaN power HEMTs for medium-voltage power electronics in the future.

Papain-like cysteine proteases (PLCPs) play pivotal roles in plant defense against pathogen invasions. While pathogens can secrete effectors to target and inhibit PLCP activities, the roles of PLCPs in plant-virus interactions and the mechanisms through which viruses neutralize PLCP activities remain largely uncharted. Here, we demonstrate that the expression and activity of a maize PLCP CCP1 (Corn Cysteine Protease), is upregulated following sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV) infection. Transient silencing of CCP1 led to a reduction in PLCP activities, thereby promoting SCMV infection in maize. Furthermore, the knockdown of CCP1 resulted in diminished salicylic acid (SA) levels and suppressed expression of SA-responsive pathogenesis-related genes. This suggests that CCP1 plays a role in modulating the SA signaling pathway. Interestingly, NIa-Pro, the primary protease of SCMV, was found to interact with CCP1, subsequently inhibiting its protease activity. A specific motif within NIa-Pro termed the inhibitor motif was identified as essential for its interaction with CCP1 and the suppression of its activity. We have also discovered that the key amino acids responsible for the interaction between NIa-Pro and CCP1 are crucial for the virulence of SCMV. In conclusion, our findings offer compelling evidence that SCMV undermines maize defense mechanisms through the interaction of NIa-Pro with CCP1. Together, these findings shed a new light on the mechanism(s) controlling the arms races between virus and plant.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to assess the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and its influencing factors among intern nursing students after the full liberalization of the COVID-19 prevention and control policy in China.MethodsParticipants completed the online survey from January 14 to January 19, 2023. A demographic questionnaire, COVID-19 and internship-related questionnaire, the Fear of COVID-19 scale, the Primary Care PTSD Screen, and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale were used to conduct the online survey.ResultsOf 438 participants, 88.4% tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 6 months. The prevalence of fear, resilience, and PTSD was 16.9, 15.5, and 11.2%, respectively. Direct care of COVID patients in hospital (OR = 2.084, 95%CI 1.034 ~ 4.202), the experience of occupational exposure (OR = 2.856, 95%CI 1.436 ~ 5.681), working with an experienced team (OR = 2.120, 95%CI 1.070 ~ 4.198), and fear COVID-19 (OR = 8.269, 95%CI 4.150 ~ 16.479) were significantly and positively associated with PTSD in nursing internship students.ConclusionAfter COVID-19 full liberalization in China, intern nursing students still experienced pandemic-related mental distress, which can bring PTSD. Adequate support and counseling should be provided, as needed, to intern nursing students who are about to enter the workforce and have experienced severe PTSD symptoms related to COVID-19. Our findings indicated that should understand the importance of screening, formulate intervention strategies and preventive measures to address psychosocial problems, and provide coping skills training to intern nursing students.

ABSTRACTPorcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is an RNA virus with constantly emerging recombinant and mutant strains. Because of the high genetic diversity of PRRSV, current vaccines only provide partial protection against the infection of heterologous strains, which makes it a challenge for PRRSV prevention and control. Tubercidin is a naturally extracted compound with potential antiviral properties. However, whether tubercidin has anti-PRRSV ability is unknown. Our study found that tubercidin showed effective antiviral effects on PRRSV replication. In terms of mechanism, tubercidin suppressed PRRSV at the entry, replication, and release steps of the viral life cycle. Additionally, we demonstrated that tubercidin treatment promoted the activation of retinoic acid-inducible gene I and nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cell signaling pathway, thus increasing the type I interferon and inflammatory cytokine expression. Furthermore, tubercidin restrained the viral non-structural protein 2 expression and viral dsRNA synthesis and ultimately inhibited PRRSV replication. Hence, our data showed that tubercidin is promising and has potential antiviral ability against PRRSV replication in vitro.IMPORTANCEPorcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is one of the most important swine diseases, which causes huge economic loss worldwide. However, there is no effective therapeutic method for PRRS prevention and control. Here, we found that tubercidin, a naturally extracted adenosine analog, exhibited strong anti-porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) activity. Mechanically, tubercidin inhibited viral binding, replication, and release. Tubercidin suppressed PRRSV non-structural protein 2 expression, which is important for the formation of replication and transcription complex, leading to the block of viral RNA synthesis and PRRSV replication. Moreover, tubercidin could activate retinoic acid-inducible gene I/nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cell innate immune signaling pathway and increased the expression of interferons and proinflammatory cytokines, which was the other way to inhibit PRRSV replication. Our work evaluated the potential value of tubercidin as an antiviral agent on PRRSV replication and provided a new way to prevent PRRSV replication in vitro.

At present, diesel particulate filter (DPF) is the most effective method to reduce PM and PN in diesel engine exhaust. However, after a long period of operation, the DPF wall formed dense ash layer, which seriously affected the normal operation of the DPF. In this paper, Quartet Structure Generation Set is used to add the ash layer micro-structure, and the lattice Boltzmann method is used to explore the influence of ash layer in the ash containing DPF structure on its oxidation and regeneration process. In DPF, the active regeneration of O2 and particle (ΔH1 = −393.5 kJ/mol) and passive regeneration of NO2 and particulate matter (ΔH2 = −277.3 kJ/mol). This article combines the real microstructure of DPF and Arrhenius law to design two micro porous media structure models for DPF. The influence of ash layer on the heat release process of DPF regeneration was studied by analyzing the presence of ash stratification structure and the inlet velocities of structure I and II. It's found that the regeneration temperature of DPF structure with ash layer increases with the increase of exhaust gas inlet velocity, and the regeneration temperature of micro porous media structures at the same position varies greatly; With the increase of exhaust gas inlet velocity, the temperature distribution uniformity of the micro surface of the ash layer decreases, and the relative range increases; The optimal inlet velocity on the structural wall surface is obtained to be 0.15 m/s.

Abstract Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) show promise as second‐line treatment for advanced bladder cancer (BLCA); however, their responsiveness is limited by the immune evasion mechanisms in tumor cells. This study conduct a Cox regression analysis to screen mRNA‐binding proteins and reveals an association between Ras GTPase‐activating protein‐binding protein 1 (G3BP1) and diminished effectiveness of ICI therapy in patients with advanced BLCA. Subsequent investigation demonstrates that G3BP1 enhances immune evasion in BLCA cells by downregulating major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC‐I) through phosphoinositide 3‐kinase (PI3K)/Akt signaling activation. Mechanistically, G3BP1 interacts with splicing factor synergistic lethal with U5 snRNA 7 (SLU7) to form a complex with poly(A)‐binding protein cytoplasmic 1 and eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4 gamma 1. This complex stabilizes the closed‐loop structure of the mRNAs of class IA PI3Ks and consequently facilitates their translation and stabilization, thereby activating PI3K/Akt signaling to downregulate MHC‐I. Consistently, targeting G3BP1 with epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) impedes immune evasion and sensitizes BLCA cells to anti‐programmed cell death (PD)‐1 antibodies in mice. Thus, G3BP1 and SLU7 collaboratively contribute to immune evasion in BLCA, indicating that EGCG is a precision therapeutic agent to enhance the effectiveness of anti‐PD‐1 therapy.

Cosmic metals are believed to originate from stellar and supernovae (SNe) nucleosynthesis, dispersed into the interstellar medium (ISM) through stellar winds and supernova explosions. In this paper, we present the clear evidence of metal enrichment by a Type Ic SN 2011jm in the galaxy NGC 4809, utilizing high spatial resolution integral field unit observations obtained from the Very Large Telescope/Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer. Despite SN 2011jm being surrounded by metal-deficient ISM (∼0.25 Z _⊙ ) at a scale about 100 pc, we clearly detect enriched oxygen abundance (∼0.35 Z _⊙ ) and a noteworthy nitrogen-to-oxygen ratio at the SN site. Remarkably, the metal pollution is confined to a smaller scale (≲13 pc). We posit that the enhanced ionized metal stems from stellar winds emitted by massive stars or previous SN explosions. This observation may represent the first direct detection of chemical pollution by stellar feedback in star-forming galaxies beyond the Local Volume.

IntroductionThe Hedi virus (HEDV) and Wuxiang virus (WUXV) are newly discovered Bunyaviruses transmitted by sandflies. The geographical distribution of isolation of these two viruses continues to expand and it has been reported that WUXV causes neurological symptoms and even death in suckling mice. However, little is known about the prevalence of the two viruses in mammalian infections.MethodsIn order to understand the infection status of HEDV and WUXV in humans and animals from regions where the viruses have been isolated, this study used Western blotting to detect the positive rates of HEDV and WUXV IgG antibodies in serum samples from febrile patients, dogs, and chickens in the forementioned regions.ResultsThe results showed that of the 29 human serum samples, 17.24% (5/29) tested positive for HEDV, while 68.96% (20/29) were positive for WUXV. In the 31 dog serum samples, 87.10% (27/31) were positive for HEDV and 70.97% (22/31) were positive for WUXV, while in the 36 chicken serum samples, 47.22% (17/36) were positive for HEDV, and 52.78% (19/36) were positive for WUXV.DiscussionThese findings suggest there are widespread infections of HEDV and WUXV in mammals (dogs, chickens) and humans from the regions where these viruses have been isolated. Moreover, the positive rate of HEDV infections was higher in local animals compared to that measured in human specimens. This is the first seroepidemiological study of these two sandfly-transmitted viruses. The findings of the study have practical implications for vector-borne viral infections and related zoonotic infections in China, as well as providing an important reference for studies on the relationship between sandfly-transmitted viruses and zoonotic infections outside of China.

Plastic offers a new niche for microorganisms, the plastisphere. The ever-increasing emission of plastic waste makes it critical to understand the microbial ecology of the plastisphere and associated effects. Here, we present a global fingerprint of the plastisphere, analyzing samples collected from freshwater, seawater, and terrestrial ecosystems. The plastisphere assembles a distinct microbial community that has a clearly higher heterogeneity and a more deterministically dominated assembly compared to natural habitats. New coexistence patterns—loose and fragile networks with mostly specialist linkages among microorganisms that are rarely found in natural habitats—are seen in the plastisphere. Plastisphere microbiomes generally have a great potential to metabolize organic compounds, which could accelerate carbon turnover. Microorganisms involved in the nitrogen cycle are also altered in the plastisphere, especially in freshwater plastispheres, where a high abundance of denitrifiers may increase the release of nitrite (aquatic toxicant) and nitrous oxide (greenhouse gas). Enrichment of animal, plant, and human pathogens means that the plastisphere could become an increasingly mobile reservoir of harmful microorganisms. Our findings highlight that if the trajectory of plastic emissions is not reversed, the expanding plastisphere could pose critical planetary health challenges.

Abstract Background Avian influenza viruses (AIV) may cause enormous economic losses in the poultry industry and sporadically severe disease in humans. Falconry is a tradition of great importance in the Arabian Peninsula. Falcons may catch AIV through contact with infected quarry species. Objectives Falcons together with other bird species are the focus of this seroprevalence study, carried out on sera collected in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). AIV with the haemagglutinin subtypes H5, H7 and possibly H9 may infect humans. Methods We investigated the antibody prevalence to these subtypes in falcons and other birds by haemagglutination inhibition test. 617 sera of falcons and 429 sera of 46 wild/captive bird species were tested. Results From the falcons, only one was positive for H5 antibodies (0.2%), none contained antibodies to H7, but 78 had antibodies to H9 (13.2%). Regarding other birds, eight were positive for antibodies to H5 (2.1%), none had antibodies to H7, but 55 sera from 17 species contained antibodies to H9 (14.4%). Conclusions In contrast to H5 and H7 infections, H9N2 is widespread worldwide. Its ability to reassort, thereby creating possibly pathogenic strains for humans, should remind us of the potential risk that close contact with birds entails.

Abstract Background The treatment of Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has always been challenging due to its heterogeneity and the absence of well-defined molecular targets. The present study aims to elucidate the role of protein-coding circRNAs in the etiology and carcinogenesis of TNBC. Methods CircRNA expression data in TNBC (GEO: GSE113230, GSE101123) were reanalyzed and then circCAPG was selected for further study. To identify the polypeptide-coding function of circCAPG, a series of experiments, such as Mass spectrometry and dual-luciferase reporter assays were conducted. Cell proliferation, apoptosis and metastasis parameters were determined to investigate the cancerous functions CAPG-171aa plays in both TNBC organoids and nude mice. Mechanistically, the relation between CAPG-171aa and STK38 in TNBC was verified by immunoprecipitation analyses and mass spectrometry. The interactions between SLU7 and its binding site on circCAPG were validated by RIP-qPCR experiments. Results In both TNBC clinical samples and cell lines, the expression level of circCAPG was identified to be higher compared with normal ones and positively correlated with the overall survival (n = 132) in a 10-year follow-up study, in which the area under the curve of receiver operating characteristic was 0.8723 with 100% specificity and 80% sensitivity. In addition, we found that circCAPG knockdown (KD) significantly inhibited the growth of TNBC organoids. Intriguingly, circCAPG can be translated into a polypeptide named CAPG-171aa which promotes tumor growh by disrupting the binding of serine/threonine kinase 38 (STK38) to SMAD-specific E3 ubiquitin protein ligase 1 (SMURF1) and thereby preventing MEKK2 ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation. Furthermore, we found that SLU7 Homolog- Splicing Factor (SLU7) can regulate the bio-generation of circCAPG through binding to the flanking Alu sequences of circRNA transcripts. Conclusions circCAPG significantly enhances the proliferation and metastasis of TNBC cells by encoding a novel polypeptide CAPG-171aa and afterwards activates MEKK2-MEK1/2-ERK1/2 pathway. Additionally, the formation of circCAPG is found to be mediated by SLU7. The present study provides innovative insight into the role of protein-coding circRNAs CAPG-171aa in TNBC, and its capacity to serve as a promising prognostic biomarker and potential therapeutic target in TNBC. Background: Streptococcus suis (S. suis) is a Gram-positive bacterium that causes substantial disease in pigs. S. suis is also an emerging zoonoses in humans, primarily in Asia, through the consumption of undercooked pork and the handling of infected pig meat as well as carcasses. The complexity of S. suis epidemiology, characterized by the presence of multiple bacterial serotypes and strains with diverse sequence types, identifies a critical need for a universal vaccine with the ability to confer cross-protective immunity. Highly conserved immunogenic proteins are generally considered good candidate antigens for subunit universal vaccines. Methods: In this study, the cross-protection of the sugar ABC transporter substrate-binding protein (S-ABC), a surface-associated immunogenic protein of S. suis, was examined in mice for evaluation as a universal vaccine candidate. Results: S-ABC was shown to be highly conserved, with 97% amino acid sequence identity across 31 S. suis strains deposited in GenBank. Recombinantly expressed S-ABC (rS-ABC) was recognized via rabbit sera specific to S. suis serotype 2. The immunization of mice with rS-ABC induced antigen-specific antibody responses, as well as IFN-γ and IL-4, in multiple organs, including the lungs. rS-ABC immunization conferred high (87.5% and 100%) protection against challenges with S. suis serotypes 2 and 9, demonstrating high cross-protection against these serotypes. Protection, albeit lower (50%), was also observed in mice challenged with S. suis serotype 7. Conclusions: These data identify S-ABC as a promising antigenic target within a universal subunit vaccine against S. suis.

To prepare a soft magnetic powder core, the magnetic powder surface has to be insulated by phosphating treatment. Organic chemicals such as ethanol and acetone are generally used as solvents for phosphoric acid, which may cause serious environmental problems. This work proposed deionized water as the environmentally friendly phosphating solvent for FeSiCr powder. The soft magnetic composites (SMCs) were prepared using phosphoric acid for inorganic coating and modified silicon polymer for organic coating. The effect of different phosphating solvents, including deionized water, ethanol, and acetone, on the structure and magnetic properties of SMCs were investigated. It is found that the solvent affects the phosphating solution’s stability and the phosphoric acid’s ionization. The phosphoric acid is more stable in deionized water than in ethanol and acetone. The phosphating reaction in deionized water is also more stable in deionized water, resulting in a dense phosphate coating on the particle surface. The effects of phosphoric acid concentration and temperature on the magnetic properties of FeSiCr-based SMCs were further studied. With the increase in phosphoric acid concentration and temperature, the magnetic permeability and saturation magnetization of the powder core decrease, and the core loss decreases, followed by an increase. The optimized combination of properties was obtained for the SMCs phosphated with 0.2 wt.% phosphoric acid in deionized water at 35 °C, including a high effective permeability μe of 25.7, high quality factor Q of 80.2, low core loss Pcv of 709.5 mW/cm3 measured at 0.05 T @ 100 kHz, and high withstanding voltage of 276 V, due to the formation of uniform and dense insulating coating layers. In addition, the SMCs prepared with phosphated powder show good corrosion resistance. The anti-corrosion properties of the SMCs using deionized water as a phosphating solvent are better than those using ethanol and acetone.

With the global development of China's brewing engineering industry, the demand for cultivating professional and compound talents with international competitiveness is increasing. Teaching English for brewing engineering can support the development of international compound talents with excellent comprehensive professional quality and systematic knowledge structure. However, professional English teaching still faces the dilemma of a lack of systematic environmental training, and knowledge points are plenty and complicated. Especially the Jiang-flavor Baijiu with unique Chinese characteristics involves a traditional complex brewing process. The conventional teaching model is challenging to meet the needs of comprehensive and systematic rofessional English training and application. While the virtual simulation technology of brewing engineering can provide a virtual system training platform for professional English teaching. Therefore, three virtual simulation experimental projects of sauce-flavored baijiu brewing technology, small beer production and fermentation technology, and wine production technology have been introduced during professional English teaching. Students conduct systematic training from the perspective of professional English in a virtual simulation environment and strengthen the comprehensive use of professional English in the offline production practice session. This teaching method helped students to effectively consolidate and apply the specialized English knowledge of brewing engineering for comprehensive large-scale training, which can be used for continuous exploration by similar majors or colleges and further promotion and improvement.

Abstract Low-frequency magnetic fields exert a significant inhibitory effect on tumor growth and have been developed as a therapeutic modality. However, the effect of a low-frequency magnetic field on the interaction between cells is still poorly understood. This study aimed to preliminarily evaluate the direct effect of magnetic field ditectely on cultured cells and indirect effect mediated by cell-environment (conditioned medium). 293 T cells, Hepg2 cells, A549 cells have been cultured at 37 ± 0.18 °C in presence of an extremely low-frequency magnetic field of 20 Hz, 5-mT. The adherent tumor cells were more sensitive to magnetic field inhibition in the original environment (conditioned medium) with adherence inhibition rate for Hepg2 and A549 estimated at 18% and 30% respectively. The inhibition effect was suppressed when the suspended cells separated or clump density at a low density. The nontumor cell lines showed no inhibitory effect on exposure to a low-frequency magnetic field. The intracellular ion fluorescence (IIF) showed that the magnetic field significantly altered the membrane potential, indicating hyperpolarization of the adherent cells (ΔIIF 293 T cells: − 25%, ΔIIF Hepg2 cells: − 20% and ΔIIF A549 cells: − 13%) and depolarization of the suspended cells (ΔIIF Raji cells: + 9%). In addition, the conditioned media collected after magnetic field exposure acted on unexposed tumor cells and caused inhibition. Our findings might provide a basis for the mechanism of magnetic field interaction between cells and cell environment in the future.

BackgroundAn increasing number of studies have shown the association between traumatic events occurring in childhood and adolescence and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). A gap remains in the literature on the epidemiology and influencing factors of traumatic events and post-traumatic stress disorder in communities in northern China. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of traumatic events and PTSD in communities in northern China, to explore the types of stressful traumatic events and the impact of these traumatic events on children and adolescents, and to investigate the effect of sociodemographic factors on PTSD.MethodsA cross-sectional survey study was conducted among 6,027 students (7–17 years old) from 6 cities in Liaoning Province, China. The sample consisted of 2,853 males (47.34%) and 3,174 females (52.66%). The Essen Trauma-Inventory for Children and Adolescents (ETI-CA) Scale was used. The ETI-CA has 5 sections, which include type of traumatic events, worst traumatic event, post-traumatic symptoms, onset, duration, burden of PTSD, and present difficulties in different areas of life. PTSD symptoms were assessed with 23 items in Part 3 of the ETI-CA.ResultsWe found that 2,068 (34.3%) of 6,027 participants experienced trauma events and 686 (33.2%) of 2,068 reported PTSD. Among trauma-exposed youth (2,068), the sudden death of close relatives (33.9%), serious accidents (20.9%), and parental divorce (15.5%) were reported as the worst traumatic events. Studies have shown that after exposure to stressful life events, more than 30% of people feel nervous or upset (39.8%), scared (33.4%), helpless (32.6%), and about 10% have headaches (15.5%), rapid heartbeat (13.3%), and dizziness (11.8%). Multivariable logistic regression analyses showed that students in middle school [OR = 1.29 (1.016, 1.637)], not a student leader [OR = 0.738 (0.618, 0.881)], and their parents in single marital status significantly predicted higher PTSD prevalence the remarried [OR = 0.474 (0.252, 0.893)], married [OR = 0.42 (0.227, 0.778)].ConclusionThe present study suggests the government to train psychological counselors in schools and communities to provide emotional and psychological support, as well as the school leaders and parents to elevate adolescents' psychological suzhi. Particularly, counseling and professional support should be given to those students whose parents are single.

Abstract Background Liver metastasis is the leading cause of death in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Surgical resection of the liver metastases increases the incidence of long-term survival in patients with colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM). However, many patients experience CRLM recurrence after the initial liver resection. As an unavoidable pathophysiological process in liver surgery, liver ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury increases the risk of tumor recurrence and metastasis. Methods Colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM) mouse models and mouse liver partial warm ischemia models were constructed. The levels of lipid peroxidation were detected in cells or tissues. Western Blot, qPCR, elisa, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, scanning electron microscope, flow cytometry analysis were conducted to evaluate the changes of multiple signaling pathways during CRLM recurrence under liver ischemia-reperfusion (IR) background, including SGK1/IL-6/STAT3, neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) formation, polymorphonuclear myeloid-derived suppressor cell (PMN-MDSC) infiltration. Results Hepatocyte serum/glucocorticoid regulated kinase 1 (SGK1) was activated in response to hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury to pass hepatocyte STAT3 phosphorylation and serum amyloid A (SAA) hyperactivation signals in CRLM-IR mice, such regulation is dependent on SGK-activated IL-6 autocrine. Administration of the SGK1 inhibitor GSK-650394 further reduced ERK-related neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) formation and polymorphonucler myeloid-derived suppressor cells (PMN-MDSC) infiltration compared with targeting hepatocyte SGK1 alone, thereby alleviating CRLM in the context of IR. Conclusions Our study demonstrates that hepatocyte and immune cell SGK1 synergistically promote postoperative CRLM recurrence in response to hepatic IR stress, and identifies SGK1 as a translational target that may improve postoperative CRLM recurrence.

The key to high-yielding peanut cultivation is the optimization of agricultural production practices. Regulating single-seed precise sowing (SSPS) density and paclobutrazol (Pbz) application concentration are effective practices that increase peanut yield by improving plant architecture, lodging resistance, and photosynthetic characteristics. Therefore, we conducted a two-factor field optimization experiment for the sowing density (D1: 1.95 × 105 plants ha−1, D2: 2.40 × 105 plants ha−1, D3: 2.85 × 105 plants ha−1, and D4: 3.30 × 105 plants ha−1) and Pbz application concentration (P0: 0 mg L−1 and P1: 100 mg L−1). The objective was to optimize agricultural production practices and provide a theoretical basis for high-yielding peanut cultivation by evaluating the effects of sowing density and Pbz application on plant architecture, lodging resistance, photosynthetic characteristics, and yield. The results showed that at the same Pbz application concentration, increasing sowing density increased lodging percentage and reduced leaf photosynthetic capacity. At the same sowing density, Pbz application reduced lodging percentage by decreasing plant height (PH), improving lignin biosynthesis-related enzyme activities, and enhancing stem puncture strength (SPS) and breaking strength (SBS). The paclobutrazol-induced alterations in plant architecture and lodging resistance improved light transmission at the middle and bottom leaf strata, resulting in the increase in relative chlorophyll content and net photosynthetic rate (Pn) of leaves. Furthermore, D3P1 treatment had the highest peanut yield among all treatments. In summary, the production strategy combining the sowing density of 2.85 × 105 plants ha−1 with the application of 100 mg L−1 Pbz was found to be the optimal agricultural production practice for giving full play to production potential and achieving higher peanut yield.

Automatic traffic sign detection has great potential for intelligent vehicles. In recent years, traffic sign detection has made significant progress with the rise of deep learning. Detecting small traffic signs in real-world scenarios is still a challenging problem due to the complex and variable traffic environment. In this paper, a model with a small number of parameters is proposed to improve the accuracy of small traffic sign detection. Firstly, the cross-stage attention network module is proposed to enhance the feature extraction capability of the network. Secondly, a dense neck structure is proposed to make the detail information and semantic information fully fused. Finally, for the model’s loss function, SIOU with direction information is introduced to optimize the model’s training process. Tests on the challenging public datasets TT100K, CCTSDB2021, and VOC show that our approach achieves significant performance improvement with the minimum number of parameters compared to existing algorithms.

Abstract Background hsa_circ_0001727 (circZKSCAN1) has been reported to be a tumor-associated circRNA by sponging microRNAs. Intriguingly, we found that circZKSCAN1 encoded a secretory peptide (circZKSaa) in the liver. The present study aims to elucidate the potential role and molecular mechanism of circZKSaa in the regulation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression. Methods The circRNA profiling datasets (RNA-seq data GSE143233 and GSE140202) were reanalyzed and circZKSCAN1 was selected for further study. Mass spectrometry, polysome fractionation assay, dual-luciferase reporter, and a series of experiments showed that circZKSCAN1 encodes circZKSaa. Cell proliferation, apoptosis, and tumorigenesis in nude mice were examined to investigate the functions of circZKSaa. Mechanistically, the relationship between the circZKSaa and mTOR in HCC was verified by immunoprecipitation analyses, mass spectrometry, and immunofluorescence staining analyses. Results Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis demonstrated that the secretory peptide circZKSaa encoded by circZKSCAN1 might be the potential biomarker for HCC tissues. Through a series of experiments, we found that circZKSaa inhibited HCC progression and sensitize HCC cells to sorafenib. Mechanistically, we found that the sponge function of circZKSCAN1 to microRNA is weak in HCC, while overexpression of circZKSaa promoted the interaction of FBXW7 with the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) to promote the ubiquitination of mTOR, thereby inhibiting the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway. Furthermore, we found that the high expression of cicZKSCAN1 in sorafenib-treated HCC cells was regulated by QKI-5. Conclusions These results reveal that a novel circZKSCAN1-encoded peptide acts as a tumor suppressor on PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway, and sensitizes HCC cells to sorafenib via ubiquitination of mTOR. These findings demonstrated that circZKSaa has the potential to serve as a therapeutic target and biomarker for HCC treatment.

Based on the detailed term accounting approach, the relationship between extreme ultraviolet conversion efficiency and plasma conditions, which range from 5 to 200 eV for plasma temperature and from 4.63 × 1017 to 4.63 × 1022 cm−3 for plasma density, is studied for lithium plasmas through spectral simulations involving very extended atomic configurations, including a benchmark set of autoionizing states. The theoretical limit of the EUV conversion efficiency and its dependence on sustained plasma time are given for different plasma densities. The present study provides the necessary understanding of EUV formation from the perspective of atomic physics and also provides useful knowledge for improving EUV conversion efficiency with different technologies.

This work presents highly responsive gate-controlled p-GaN/AlGaN/GaN ultraviolet photodetectors (UVPDs) on Si substrates with a high-transmittance ITO gate. The two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) in the quantum well of the polarized AlGaN/GaN heterojunction was efficiently depleted by the p-GaN gate, leading to a high photo-to-dark current ratio (PDCR) of 3.2 × 105. The quantum wells of the p-GaN/AlGaN and AlGaN/GaN heterojunctions can trap the holes and electrons excited by the UV illumination, thus efficiently triggering a photovoltaic effect and photoconductive effect, separately. Furthermore, the prepared photodetectors allow flexible adjustment of the static bias point, making it adaptable to different environments. Compared to traditional thin-film semi-transparent Ni/Au gates, indium tin oxide (ITO) exhibits higher transmittance. Under 355 nm illumination, the photodetector exhibited a super-high responsivity exceeding 3.5 × 104 A/W, and it could even exceed 106 A/W under 300 nm illumination. The well-designed UVPD combines both the advantages of the high-transmittance ITO gate and the structure of the commercialized p-GaN/AlGaN/GaN high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs), which opens a new possibility of fabricating large-scale, low-cost, and high-performance UVPDs in the future.

With global climate change posing a major threat to human society, many countries have elevated “carbon neutrality” to a national strategy and put forward a vision of a zero-carbon future. In this process, environmental regulation (ER) and renewable energy technology innovation (RET) are important factors that contribute to achieving the carbon neutrality goal. Thus, this study employs a spatial econometric technique model to investigate the direct and indirect effects of ER and RET on environmental sustainability from both theoretical and empirical dimensions based on panel data of 30 Chinese provinces during 1998–2020. The results show that ER is not conducive to the improvement of environmental quality in local and neighboring areas, but it is beneficial to the reduction of CO2 emissions when the level of economic development is greater than the critical threshold of 9.126, i.e., the “inverted U-shaped” curve relationship. On the contrary, RET has a beneficial impact on the environment, but when the economic development level is greater than the critical threshold of 8.790, the carbon reduction effect of RET is reduced. Thus, the significance and magnitude of the carbon reduction effect of ER and RET depend on the regional economic development level, and excessive RE will have a suppressive effect on RET. The paper assisted policy makers in designing a holistic policy to enhance environmental sustainability through ER and RET, especially in the Chinese region.

Abstract Background Coronary artery-left ventricular multiple micro-fistulas (CA-LVMMFs) is a rare congenital vascular anomaly that may present with no obvious clinical symptoms or a typical angina attack. CA-LVMMFs is usually found unexpectedly during coronary angiography (CAG). Case presentation We report a case of a 65-year-old man admitted to the hospital with acute coronary syndrome. CA-LVMMFs was found during coronary angiography. Echocardiography showed apical hypertrophy and blood flow signals were seen in the apical myocardium, connected with the left ventricle. We searched the MEDLINE database and found 39 relevant reports. We made statistics on the clinical characteristics of these patients and found half involved hypertrophy or perfusion defects in the ventricular septum or apex. Conclusion As a rare congenital anomaly, the effect of CA-LVMMFs on patients is unclear. By reporting a case and summarizing literature reports, we found that CA-LVMMFs may be associated with myocardial hypertrophy, especially ventricular septal and apical hypertrophy.

In research of the characteristics of the cavity evolution, the pressure, and the liquid spurt in hydrodynamic ram, the experiment of the high-velocity fragment impacting the water-filled container had been conducted. The relationships between the above three characteristics have been researched. The evolution of the cavity can be divided into three processes according to its shape characteristics. The first liquid spurt occurred in Process Ⅱ and the rest of it occurred in Process Ⅲ. The duration of the second liquid spurt is longer than the first liquid spurt. When the impact velocity of the fragment is less than 996 m/s, the velocity of the second liquid spurt is the highest. When the velocity of the fragment is greater than 996 m/s, the velocity of the first liquid spurt is the highest. The maximum velocities of the first and second liquid spurt are 111 m/s and 94 m/s respectively. The pressure fluctuated sharply in Processes Ⅰ and Ⅲ. The maximum peak pressures in the shock and the cavity oscillation phases are 15.51 MPa and 7.96 MPa respectively. The time interval of the two adjacent pressure pulses increases with the increase of the fragment velocity.

Abstract In response to the basic policy of green and low-carbon circular development to solve resource, environmental and ecological problems, gypsum is considered to be a filling material for mine backfilling. To explore the potential risks of gypsum to the groundwater environment due to the backfilling of abandoned mines, a sequential batch leaching experiment was carried out in this paper, which used three types of industrial waste gypsum, namely, phosphorus gypsum (PG), titanium gypsum (TG) and flue gas desulfurization gypsum (FGDG). COMSOL Multiphysics 5.4 software was used to simulate and solve the migration process of the leached metal elements in the mine floor when these three gypsum types were used as filling materials to observe the concentration distributions and diffusion distances of the metal elements from these three gypsum types in the mine floor. The results show that (1) during repeated contact of the three types of industrial waste gypsum with the leaching medium, the pH levels changed, and the changes in pH affected the leaching patterns for the heavy metal elements in the gypsum. (2) Based on the concentrations of the metal elements that were leached from the three types of gypsum, it can be determined that these three types of gypsum are not classified as hazardous solid wastes, but they cannot be ruled out with regard to their risk to the groundwater environment when they are used as mine filling materials. (3) When the three types of gypsum are used as filling materials, the concentration distributions of the metal elements and their migration distances all exhibit significant changes over time. The concentration distributions, diffusion rates and migration distances of the metal elements from the different gypsum types are affected by their initial concentrations in the leachate. The maximum migration distances of Zn in the floor from the PG, FGDG and TG are 8.2, 8.1 and 7.5 m, respectively.

Abstract Background Bone marrow cells (BMCs), especially mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), have shown attractive application prospects in acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, the weak efficacy becomes their main limitation in clinical translation. Based on the anti-inflammation and anti-apoptosis effects of a Chinese medicine-Tongxinluo (TXL), we aimed to explore the effects of TXL-pretreated MSCs (MSCsTXL) in enhancing cardiac repair and further investigated the underlying mechanism. Methods MSCsTXL or MSCs and the derived exosomes (MSCsTXL-exo or MSCs-exo) were collected and injected into the infarct zone of rat hearts. In vivo, the anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammation effects, and cardiac functional and histological recovery were evaluated. In vitro, the apoptosis was evaluated by western blotting and flow cytometry. miRNA sequencing was utilized to identify the significant differentially expressed miRNAs between MSCsTXL-exo and MSCs-exo, and the miRNA mimics and inhibitors were applied to explore the specific mechanism. Results Compared to MSCs, MSCsTXL enhanced cardiac repair with reduced cardiomyocytes apoptosis and inflammation at the early stage of AMI and significantly improved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) with reduced infarct size in an exosome-dependent way. Similarly, MSCsTXL-exo exerted superior therapeutic effects in anti-apoptosis and anti-inflammation, as well as improving LVEF and reducing infarct size compared to MSCs-exo. Further exosomal miRNA analysis demonstrated that miR-146a-5p was the candidate effector of the superior effects of MSCsTXL-exo. Besides, miR-146a-5p targeted and decreased IRAK1, which inhibited the nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65 thus protecting H9C2 cells from hypoxia injury. Conclusions This study suggested that MSCsTXL markedly facilitated cardiac repair via a new mechanism of the exosomal transfer of miR-146a-5p targeting IRAK1/NF-κB p65 pathway, which has great potential for clinical translation.

Wireworms and white grubs are destructive underground pests in maize fields in China. Cyantraniliprole has good control effect on coleoptera pests. Here, we evaluated the toxicity of cyantraniliprole to the second instar larvae of Anomala corpulenta Motschulsky and third-instar of larvae of Pleonomus canaliculatus Faldermann and the effects of sublethal concentrations on the activity of antioxidant and detoxification enzymes. We also explored the efficacy of cyantraniliprole on underground pests under indoor and field conditions. The LC50 of cyantraniliprole for the third instar larvae of P. canaliculatus was 23.3712 mg/L, and that for the second instar larvae of A. corpulenta was 5.9715 mg/L. Cyantraniliprole can activate the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and glutathione S-transferase (GST) to different degrees at a sublethal dose. According to the pot experiment and the control efficacy test in the field, the indoor control effect of cyantraniliprole seed treatment on P. canaliculatus and white grubs was approximately 80%, and the maximum increase in yield achieved through cyantraniliprole application was approximately 15% in the field efficacy test. Cyantraniliprole has a strong control effect on wireworms and white grubs, so it can be used to treat seeds to control underground pests in maize fields.

Aneurysms of the middle meningeal artery (MMA) are exceedingly uncommon and mainly result from traumatic brain damage, but this report describes a case of MMA aneurysm induced by cranial surgery. Surgery was performed on a 34-year-old male with cerebrovascular malformation and cerebral hemorrhage. Cerebral angiography revealed no MMA aneurysm before craniocerebral surgery; however, a postoperative angiogram revealed a new MMA aneurysm. Aneurysms of the MMA are uncommon consequences of brain surgery. Based on our findings, the MMA as well as other meningeal arteries should be avoided while suturing the dura mater tent to prevent aneurysms.

Summary: Mosaic symptoms are commonly observed in virus-infected plants. However, the underlying mechanism by which viruses cause mosaic symptoms as well as the key regulator(s) involved in this process remain unclear. Here, we investigate maize dwarf mosaic disease caused by sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV). We find that the manifestation of mosaic symptoms in SCMV-infected maize plants requires light illumination and is correlated with mitochondrial reactive oxidative species (mROS) accumulation. The transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses results together with the genetic and cytopathological evidence indicate that malate and malate circulation pathways play essential roles in promoting mosaic symptom development. Specifically, at the pre-symptomatic infection stage or infection front, SCMV infection elevates the enzymatic activity of pyruvate orthophosphate dikinase by decreasing the phosphorylation of threonine527 under light, resulting in malate overproduction and subsequent mROS accumulation. Our findings indicate that activated malate circulation contributes to the manifestation of light-dependent mosaic symptoms via mROS.

Portable air purifiers have been extensively used to improve indoor air quality and mitigate the transmission of airborne diseases. However, the efficacy of mitigation is strongly affected by the interactions between jet flows of processed air from the air purifiers and the background airflows driven by the ventilation system. Critical factors in this context include the position and capacity of air purifiers and the ventilation rate of the heating ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system. These factors are investigated in this study via computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations and the infection probability for different scenarios is quantified using the latest airborne infection predictive model incorporating recent pathological and clinical data for SARS-CoV-2. The results show that the use of air purifiers can significantly reduce the concentration of particulate matter, thus contributing to a generally lower risk of airborne transmission. However, the position of air purifiers affects their overall efficacy remarkably. Comparatively, a central HVAC system is more efficient at removing airborne particles under an equivalent ventilation rate assuming it uses a mixing ventilation scheme.

The Miboshan Formation in the Middle Ordovician plays a crucial role in the sedimentary evolution of the western margin of the Ordos Basin as it represents the transition from a carbonate platform to a deep-water slope-basin environment. This study focuses on the paleoenvironment of claystone in the Middle Ordovician Miboshan Formation, located in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of the Ordos Basin. The study aims to analyze the influence of sea level and salinity on rare earth elements, investigate terrigenous input and redox conditions through trace element analysis, and exemplify the coupling relationship between depositional and tectonic environments. The Miboshan Formation profile consists of thick- to thin-bedded limestones, mainly composed of lenticular calcirudite with erosion surfaces and horizontal laminae. Grayish black claystone have deformation structures and graptolite fossils. Based on the total number of rare earth elements and the trace element indexes, the seawater properties, redox degree, and terrigenous input are located in two data sets in different parts of the profile (i.e., sample 6-1 to 6-5: Concentrated in lower part, and samples 6-6 to 6-8: Concentrated in upper part), implying that they were deposited at different subaqueous uplifts. Negative Ce anomalies, La/Ce, V/Cr, and Fe3+/Fe2+ ratios indicate an anoxic condition with stratified redox structure, whereas characteristic LaN/NdN, Y/Ho, and Sr/Ba suggest deep-water affected by fresh water. The ∑REEs and Th/U ratios indicated that the study area was mainly deposited from terrigenous materials in the stable tectonic area. According to the ages of deposition, lithologic analyses, and chemical parameters, the Miboshan Formation is related to the deep water environment in a ponded basin influenced by subaqueous uplift resulting from plate subduction in an active continental margin. This study provides valuable insights into paleoenvironment and paleotectonic environments of the Miboshan Formation in the Middle Ordovician.
