Two new bisabolane derivatives, trichobisabolins M (1) and N (2), one new steroid derivative, 4-(p-hydroxyphenethoxy)demethylincisterol A3 (3), and one new lauric acid derivative, methyl 3,5-dihydroxydodecanoate (4), as well as (3R,5R)-3-hydroxy-5-dodecanolide (5) were isolated from the marine-alga-endophytic Trichoderma atroviride RR-dl-3−9. Their structures and relative configurations were assigned mainly by NMR and mass spectroscopic techniques, and their absolute configurations were confirmed on the basis of specific optical rotation, ECD, and X-ray crystallographic data. Compounds 1 and 2 represent the first occurrence of bisabolane derivatives from this species. The five isolates were assayed for inhibiting four marine phytoplankton and five marine-derived bacteria, and the two lauric acid derivatives showed antibacterial activities with MIC values ranging from 13 to 50 μg/mL.

The microstructure characteristics in early stage shear localization of near-α Ti−6Al−2Zr−1Mo−1V titanium alloy were investigated by split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) tests using hat-shaped specimens. The microstructural evolution and deformation mechanisms of hat-shaped specimens were revealed by electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) method. It is found that the nucleation and expansion of adiabatic shear band (ASB) are affected by both geometric and structural factors. The increase of dislocation density, structure fragment and temperature rise in the deformation-affected regions provide basic microstructural conditions. In addition to the dislocation slips, the extension twins detected in shear region also play a critical role in microstructural fragmentation due to twin-boundaries effect. Interestingly, the sandwich structure imposes a crucial influence on ASB, which finally becomes a mature wide ASB in the dynamic deformation. However, due to much larger width, the sandwich structure in the middle of shear region is also possible to serve as favorable nucleation sites for crack initiation. Two new meroterpenoids, aspermeroterpenes D and E (1 and 2), two new ophiobolin-type sesterterpenoids, the C-18 epimers of 18,19-dihydro-18-methoxy-19-hydroxyophiobolin P (6 and 7), and two new drimane-type sesquiterpenoids, 3S-hydroxystrobilactone A (8) and 6-epi-strobilactone A (9), along with 11 known terpenoids (3-5 and 10-17) were isolated from the cultures of the algicolous fungus Aspergillus sp. RR-YLW-12, derived from the red alga Rhodomela confervoides. The structures and relative configurations of new compounds were established by detailed spectroscopic analysis of NMR and HRMS experiments, and the absolute configurations were assigned by X-ray diffraction experiments and comparison of their experimental and calculated ECD spectra. Compound 1 features a rare 6/6/6/6/5 pentacyclic system with a meroterpenoid skeleton, and the structure of terretonin E (3) was revised in this study. Compound 4 showed significant inhibitory activities against three microalgae, Prorocentrum donghaiense, Heterosigma akashiwo, and Chattonella marina, with IC50 values of 10.5, 5.2, and 3.1 μg/mL, respectively.

Eight new trichothecene derivatives, trichodermarins G-N (1-8), and two new cuparene derivatives, trichocuparins A (9) and B (10), as well as six known trichothecenes (11-16) were isolated from the fungal strain Trichoderma brevicompactum A-DL-9-2 obtained from the inner tissue of the marine red alga Chondria tenuissima. The structures and relative configurations of 1-10 were assigned by NMR and MS data, and the absolute configurations of 1, 2, and 9 were established by X-ray diffraction. Compound 8 features an aminosugar unit bond to the trichothecene framework for the first time, while 9 and 10 represent the first occurrence of cuparene sesquiterpenes in Trichoderma. All the isolates were assayed for growth inhibition of five phytopathogenic fungi (Botrytis cinerea, Cochliobolus miyabeanus, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cucumerium, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. niveum, and Phomopsis asparagi) and four marine phytoplankton species (Amphidinium carterae, Heterocapsa circularisquama, Heterosigma akashiwo, and Prorocentrum donghaiense). Several of them exhibited significant inhibitory activities against the fungi and phytoplankton tested of which trichodermin (12) showed the highest antifungal and antimicroalgal activities with MIC and IC50 values being 4.0 and 0.82 μg/mL, respectively.

The loss of ecological carbon sinks often occurs in the process of coal resource development. Under the carbon neutral strategy, it is of great significance to explore technologies and models for improving ecological carbon sinks in coal mining areas. This study firstly addressed the system construction framework of the ecological carbon sink in coal mining areas, which included two levels of management mode and technical methods; three main categories of soil carbon sink, vegetation carbon sink, and wetland carbon sink; and several technical contents such as ecological carbon sink planning, carbon sink monitoring and investigation, carbon sink function improvement, and carbon sink loss prevention. The study analyzed the main types of ecological carbon sink (mainly involving soil carbon sinks and vegetation carbon sinks, whereas wetland carbon sinks were mainly related to coal mining subsidence areas with high groundwater level) and circumstances of carbon sink losses (including coal mining activities, the process of ecological vegetation construction, and ecological stability risk under long-term conditions) and proposed methods to improve ecological carbon sinks and prevent carbon sink losses for soil carbon sinks and vegetation carbon sinks in coal mining areas. The results can provide technical reference for the scientific research and engineering construction of ecological carbon sinks in coal mining areas.

The structures and relative configurations of two new isolates were established by a combination of 1 D/2D NMR, IR, and mass spectroscopic methods, and the absolute configuration of 1 was assigned on the basis of ECD data analyzed by quantum chemical calculations. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited weak inhibition of one or two marine phytoplankton species.

To investigate the category and prevalence rate of denture-related oral mucosal lesions (DML) in 185 patients with removable denture and analyze the influencing factors.A total of 185 patients with removable denture who visited the department of stomatology of our hospital from October 2015 to June 2018 were investigated by questionnaire. DML types and locations were recorded in detail, and patients were followed up after treatment. Based on the data of this study, the differences of DML reports in other regions of China were analyzed by comparing the results searched from databases. SPSS 17.0 software package was used for statistical analysis.In this study, the DML prevalence rate was 42.7%, significantly higher in male patients than in female patients (54.17% vs 35.40%, P0.05). DML was more common in complete denture wearers than that in partial denture wearers (66.67% vs 31.20%, P0.05). The categories of DML were as followed (prevalence rate from high to low): denture stomatitis (54.43%), traumatic ulcer (34.18%), inflammatory hyperplasia (6.33%), and angular cheilitis (5.06%).DML is affected by multiple factors. Among them, denture related factors include denture type, denture wearing time, denture lasting time and cleaning method. DML is more influenced by the type of denture than the wearing time. Gender, ethnicity and systemic diseases may affect the prevalence of DML, but further studies are needed. The results of domestic studies in various regions cannot objectively reflect the current prevalence rate of DML, thus a multi-center epidemiological investigation is needed.

The microstructural evolution and creep deformation behavior which were adjusted and controlled by age treatment of a novel Ti−22Al−25Nb−1Mo−1V−1Zr−0.2Si (mole fraction, %) alloy, were investigated. The microstructures were obtained at different heat treatment temperatures and analyzed by SEM and TEM techniques. The creep behavior of the alloy was studied at 650 °C, 150 MPa for 100 h in air. The results showed that the initial microstructure mainly contained lath-like α2, B2, and O phases. The precipitated O phase was sensitive to aging temperature. With the aging temperature increasing, the thickness of the precipitated O phase was also increased, and the length was shortened. The creep resistance of this alloy was relevant to the morphology and volume faction of the lamellar O phase. The increase of lamellar O phase in thickness was the main reason for the improved creep properties.

Red tide occurrs frequently and causes significant damage to the environment and human health. As a result, development of new efficient and environment friendly red-tide microalgae inhibitors has gained increasing attention in recent times. Algicolous endophytic fungi with unique habitats are promising sources for active agents owing to their abundant secondary metabolites and distinguished activities. In this study, the algicidal activities of 49 marine macroalgal-derived endophytic fungi against phytoplankton Alexandrium tamarense, Prorocentrum donghaiense, Heterosigma akashiwo, and Chattonella marina were examined using 96-well microplate. Four fungal strains, including Aspergillus wentii (pt-1), A. ustus (cf-42), and A. versicolor (dl-29, pt-20), exhibited potent algicidal activities. A total of 32 pure compounds isolated from these fungi were noted to possess different degrees of algicidal activities. Of those, 11 compounds comprising five anthraquinones, two terpenoids, and four steroids showed high 24-h inhibition rates for the four red tide algae, with EC 50(24 h) values ranging from 0.01 to 14.29 μg/mL. Among them, compound 1 (1,5-dihydroxy-3-methoxy-7-methylanthraquinone) presented the strongest activity against H. akashiwo, and could decrease its chlorophyll a (Chl a ) and superoxide dismutase contents and increase the soluble protein, malondialdehyde, and peroxidase contents. These results suggested that the identified anti-algal compound might inhibit the growth of red tide algae by weakening photosynthesis (reducing Chl a content), destroying cell membrane, and damaging the antioxidant system.

To explore the metabolic responses of marine-derived Trichoderma fungi to environmental stresses, the survivability, metabolism, and antagonism of ten marine isolates have been examined. Their survival in both freshwater and seawater indicates them to be facultative marine fungi, but they are more adaptable to marine environment. Most of them feature strain-specific and positive metabolic responses to seawater, which also usually result in the higher proportions of heteroatom-bearing and unsaturated units in mycelial constituents. Seawater factors can promote many strains to produce bioactive metabolites, including plant pathogen- and marine phytoplankton-inhibitory and marine animal-toxic ones, but the effects of NaCl are often weak or negative. The inhibition of marine phytoplankton corresponds to the intracellular accumulation of heteroatom-bearing and unsaturated units under seawater condition, and the varied toxicities to marine animals further signify the divergences of lipophilic exudates under different conditions. The results may contribute to further understanding and mining the structural diversity and biological activity of secondary metabolites from marine-derived Trichoderma fungi.

A new Ti2AlNb-based alloy with the composition of Ti–22Al–25Nb–1Mo–1V–1Zr–0.2Si (at%) was fabricated in the sequence of arc melting, forging, solid solution and aging. Present paper focuses on the effects of aging temperatures (700, 750, 800, 850 and 900 °C) on microstructure, room-temperature tensile properties as well as tensile properties at 650 °C and creep properties at 650 °C/150 MPa. It is obvious that the aging treatment promotes the precipitation of O lathes from B2 matrix. With aging temperature increasing, the content of O phase decreases and its size increases gradually, which leads to the decrease in tensile strengths both at room temperature and 650 °C and a little increase in ductility. For creep properties, the sample aged at 700 °C shows the best creep resistance due to its extremely high O phase content. Aging at 800 °C leads to the decrease in the content of O phase and softening of the alloy significantly. However, with aging temperature further increasing from 800 to 900 °C, the precipitated O phase will be coarsened gradually, which strengthens the alloy again.

The oxidation behavior of a novel multi-element alloyed Ti2AlNb-based alloy (Ti–22Al–25Nb–1Mo–1V–1Zr–0.2Si) was studied in the temperature range of 650–850 °C. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with an energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used to identify the phase constituents and microstructure of the scales formed on the specimens after oxidation at different temperatures. Isothermal oxidation tests show that the oxidation rate of the alloyed Ti2AlNb-based alloy is obviously reduced at all temperatures, and the mass gains are very low for this alloy in comparison with those of Ti–22Al–25Nb alloy. The alloying elements Mo, V, Zr and Si have an obvious affect on the oxidation products of the alloys. The improved oxidation resistance for the alloy is ascribed to the introduction of Mo, V, Zr and Si elements, which are beneficial to the selective oxidation of Al to form protective oxides while are disadvantage of the formation of poor oxidation resistance oxides such as AlNbO4.

Three undescribed bisabolane derivatives, trichaspin, trichaspsides A and B, three undescribed cyclonerane sesquiterpenes, 9-cycloneren-3,7,11-triol, 11-cycloneren-3,7,10-triol, and 7,10-epoxycycloneran-3,11,12-triol, and one undescribed harziane diterpene, 11-hydroxy-9-harzien-3-one, were obtained from the culture of Trichoderma asperellum cf44-2, an endophyte of the marine brown alga Sargassum sp. Their structures and relative configurations were assigned by analysis of 1D/2D NMR and MS data, and their absolute configurations were established by ECD or specific optical rotation data. Trichaspin features an unprecedented ethylated bisabolane skeleton, while trichaspsides A and B represent the first aminoglycosides of bisabolane and norbisabolane sesquiterpenes, respectively. Nine of the compounds were evaluated for inhibition of five marine-derived pathogenic bacteria and toxicity to a marine zooplankton.

Two new meroterpenoids, named tricycloalternarenes K ( 1 ) and L ( 2 ), together with one known analog ( 3 ) were isolated from the marine-derived fungus Alternaria alternata ICD5-11, which was obtained from marine isopod Ligia exotica . Their structures and relative/absolute configurations were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods, including 1D/2D NMR, CD, and mass spectra and by comparison with literature data. The antimicrobial activities of two new compounds were also tested.

Ten new bisabolane derivatives, trichobisabolins Q–Z (1–10), one new cadinane derivative, cadin-4-en-11-ol (11), and three new cyclonerane derivatives, cycloner-3-en-7,11-diol (12), isoepicyclonerodiol oxide (13), and norepicyclonerodiol oxide (14), were isolated from the endophytic fungal strain RR-dl-6–11 of Trichoderma asperelloides that was obtained from a marine alga. Their structures along with relative configurations were established mainly by NMR and IR as well as MS techniques, and the absolute configurations of 10 and 11 were assigned by ECD and X-ray diffraction data, respectively. Sesquiterpenes from the fungus T. asperelloides are reported for the first time. It is interesting that half of the bisabolane derivatives are demethylated. Compound 12 represents the first the occurrence of cyclopentenyl-bearing cycloneranes, and 14 seems a cyclopentyl-degrading cyclonerane derivative. Several isolates feature potent inhibition of marine phytoplankton species.

Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN), also known as Gruber-Frantz tumor, is a rare form of neoplasm that almost exclusively occurs in the pancreas and in young females. While the potential of malignancy is low for SPN, these tumors can mimic other diseases and require a meticulous investigation and a standard treatment by total surgical resection. We present an unusual case of SPN arising in the mesentery of a 40-year-old man with subsequent multiple metastases. Histopathological examination showed similar properties of the mesenteric neoplasm to those of SPN in pancreas. Although the mass was surgically removed, the patient died of recurrent disease 4 years after the initial presentation. We speculate that SPN originates from pancreatic progenitor cells. Further histopathological analyses are required for the prediction of SPN recurrence after resection.

Biological surgical scaffolds are used in plastic and reconstructive surgery to support structural reinforcement and regeneration of soft tissue defects. Macrophage and fibroblast cell populations heavily regulate scaffold integration into host tissue following implantation. In the present study, the biological host response to a commercially available surgical scaffold (Meso BioMatrix Surgical Mesh (MBM)) was investigated for up to 9 weeks after subcutaneous implantation; this scaffold promoted superior cell migration and infiltration previously in in vitro studies relative to other commercially available scaffolds. Infiltrating macrophages and fibroblasts phenotypes were assessed for evidence of inflammation and remodeling. At week 1, macrophages were the dominant cell population, but fibroblasts were most abundant at subsequent time points. At week 4, the scaffold supported inflammation modulation as indicated by M1 to M2 macrophage polarization; the foreign body giant cell response resolved by week 9. Unexpectedly, a fibroblast subpopulation expressed macrophage phenotypic markers, following a similar trend in transitioning from a proinflammatory to anti-inflammatory phenotype. Also, α-smooth muscle actin-expressing myofibroblasts were abundant at weeks 4 and 9, mirroring collagen expression and remodeling activity. MBM supported physiologic responses observed during normal wound healing, including cellular infiltration, host tissue ingrowth, remodeling of matrix proteins, and immune modulation. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of the microstructure on the tensile and creep properties of the alloy at room temperature and high temperature were investigated by controlling the microstructures of the alloy by different hot working processes. It is found that the lath microstructure obtained by forging in B2 single phase zone has high tensile strength. The tensile strength is 1188 MPa at room temperature and 950 MPa at high temperature. The equiaxed structure obtained by forging in O+B2 phase region has the characteristics of high plasticity, creep resistance and low tensile strength. The elongation at room temperature is 9.0%, and the elongation at high temperature is 36%. The ambient temperature, high temperature tensile properties of the dual microstructure obtained by forging in the three-phase zone of α2+O+B2 are between the lath and the equiaxed microstructure.

To observe the periodontal status and salivary microbial diversity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, and to analyze the relationship between the composition of oral microflora in patients with RA and the incidence of rheumatoid arthritis.24 patients who were diagnosed as rheumatoid arthritis were enrolled in the experimental group, and 20 healthy persons were enrolled in the control group. The periodontal index was recorded and non-irritating saliva was collected. DNA was extracted and high-throughput sequencing was performed.There were no significant differences in periodontal indices between the RA group and the control group. After analysis of salivary microorganisms in RA patients and control group, there was no significant difference in salivary microbial diversity between RA patients and control group. At the phylum level, 13 phyla were found, includingCompared with healthy people, RA patients had higher periodontal inflammation indices, but there was no statistical difference. The oral saliva of patients with rheumatoid arthritis has a unique microbial diversity structure. This result provides a new insight for understanding the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis.

Background: To explore the generic association between miR-499 rs3746444 polymorphism and ischemic stroke (IS). Methods: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis, odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to estimate the association quantitively. Results: A total of 6 studies (involving 2569 IS cases and 2645 controls) were included. miR-499 (rs3746444) polymorphism showed a statistically significant association with IS risk in the allelic model (G allele vs A allele), the dominant model (GG+AG vs AA), the recessive model (GG vs AG+AA) and the homozygote model (GG vs AA). ORs of the above 4 models were 1.20 (95%CI: 1.02, 1.40), 1.21 (95%CI: 1.01, 1.46), 1.40 (95%CI: 1.04, 1.88), 1.48 (95%CI: 1.10, 2.00) respectively. The I square of the allelic model and the dominant model was 58% and 59%, indicating large heterogeneity among included studies. By sensitivity analysis, I square of the two models dropped to 34.5% and 38.4%, the ORs were 1.26 (95%CI: 1.13, 1.42) and 1.28 (95%CI: 1.12, 1.46), there was still a statistical association between miR-499 (rs3746444) polymorphism and IS. The heterozygote model (AG vs AA) was not statistically significant, the OR was 1.18 (95%CI: 0.99, 1.42), the I square was 54%. Notably, by sensitivity analysis, I square of the heterozygote model dropped to 34.6%, the OR was 1.25 (95%CI: 1.08, 1.43), indicating a statistically significant association between miR-499 (rs3746444) polymorphism and IS. There was no publication bias for all the models by Egger's test. Conclusion: miR-499 (rs3746444) polymorphisms is associated with the increase of IS risk.

An examination of the endophytic fungus Trichoderma asperellum A-YMD-9-2 obtained from the marine red alga Gracilaria verrucosa led to the isolation of seven new chromanoid norbisabolane derivatives, trichobisabolins I–L (1–4) and trichaspsides C–E (5–7). Their structures and relative configurations were established on the basis of spectroscopic techniques, mainly including 1D/2D NMR and MS, and the absolute configuration of 1 was assigned by X-ray crystallographic analysis using Cu Kα radiation. All of these isolates feature a 1,9-epoxy ring system, and 5–7 represent the second occurrence of norbisabolane aminoglycosides. Compounds 1–7 exhibited potent inhibition of several marine phytoplankton species.

Background aims The use of bone marrow–derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) in cell-based therapies is currently being developed for a number of diseases. Thus far, the clinical results have been inconclusive and variable, in part because of the variety of cell isolation procedures and culture conditions used in each study. A new isolation technique that streamlines the method of concentration and demands less time and attention could provide clinical and economic advantages compared with current methodologies. In this study, we evaluated the concentrating capability of an integrated centrifuge-based technology compared with standard Ficoll isolation. Methods MSCs were concentrated from bone marrow aspirate using the new device and the Ficoll method. The isolation capabilities of the device and the growth characteristics, secretome production, and differentiation capacity of the derived cells were determined. Results The new MSC isolation device concentrated the bone marrow in 90 seconds and resulted in a mononuclear cell yield 10-fold higher and with a twofold increase in cell retention compared with Ficoll. The cells isolated using the device were shown to exhibit similar morphology and functional activity as assessed by growth curves and secretome production compared to the Ficoll-isolated cells. The surface marker and trilineage differentiation profile of the device-isolated cells was consistent with the known profile of MSCs. Discussion The faster time to isolation and greater cell yield of the integrated centrifuge-based technology may make this an improved approach for MSC isolation from bone marrow aspirates.

Two new cyclonerane sesquiterpenes, (10E)-isocyclonerotriol (1) and (10Z)-isocyclonerotriol (2), and one new isocoumarin derivative, trichophenol A (3), were isolated from Trichoderma citrinoviride A-WH-20-3, an endophyte from the marine red alga Laurencia okamurai. Their structures and relative configurations were assigned by spectroscopic techniques, highlighted by using Sarotti's DP4+ sheet to confirm the cyclopentane ring. The absolute configuration of 1 was established by comparison of experimental and calculated specific rotation data. Compounds 1 and 2 represent the first occurrence of ring-isomerized cycloneranes. Compound 3 is the first 3-phenylisocoumarin derivative from Trichoderma and features inhibition of several marine-derived bacteria and phytoplankton species.

Background Sepsis is a clinically critical disease. However, it is still controversial whether the combined use of traditional Chinese medicine Xuebijing injections (XBJI) and western medicine can enhance curative efficacy and ensure safety compared with western medicine alone. Thus, this research consisted of a systematic review of the curative efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine XBJI combined with ulinastatin for treating sepsis in the Chinese population. Methods A total of 8 databases were retrieved: 4 foreign databases, namely, PubMed, The Cochrane Library, Embase, and Web of Science; and 4 Chinese databases, namely, Sino Med, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP, and Wangfang Data. The time span of retrieval began from the establishment of each database and ended on August 1, 2017. Published randomized controlled trials about the combined use of traditional Chinese medicine XBJI and western medicine were included, regardless of language. Stata12.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results Finally, 16 papers involving 1335 cases were included. The result of meta-analysis showed that compared with the single use of ulinastatin, traditional Chinese medicine XBJI combined with ulinastatin could reduce the time of mechanical ventilation, shorten the length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay, improve the 28-day survival rate, and decrease the occurrence rate of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, case fatality rate, procalcitonin (PCT) content, APACKEII score, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α level, and interleukin (IL)-6 level. Conclusion On the basis of the common basic therapeutic regimen, the combined use of traditional Chinese medicine XBJI and ulinastatin was compared with the use of ulinastatin alone for treating sepsis in the Chinese population. It was found that the number of adverse events of combination therapy is not significantly increased, and its clinical safety is well within the permitted range. However, considering the limitations of this conclusion due to the low-quality articles included in the present research, it is necessary to conduct high-quality randomized controlled trials.

Decellularized extracellular matrix (ECM) biomaterials are increasingly used in regenerative medicine for abdominal tissue repair. Emerging ECM biomaterials with greater compliance target surgical procedures like breast and craniofacial reconstruction to enhance aesthetic outcome. Clinical studies report improved outcomes with newly designed ECM scaffolds, but their comparative biological characteristics have received less attention. In this study, we investigated scaffolds derived from dermis (AlloDerm Regenerative Tissue Matrix), small intestinal submucosa (Surgisis 4-layer Tissue Graft and OASIS Wound Matrix), and mesothelium (Meso BioMatrix Surgical Mesh and Veritas Collagen Matrix) and evaluated biological properties that modulate cellular responses and recruitment. An assay panel was utilized to assess the ECM scaffold effects upon cells. Results of the material-conditioned media study demonstrated Meso BioMatrix and OASIS best supported cell proliferation. Meso BioMatrix promoted the greatest migration and chemotaxis signaling, followed by Veritas and OASIS; OASIS had superior suppression of cell apoptosis. The direct adhesion assay indicated that AlloDerm, Meso BioMatrix, Surgisis, and Veritas had sidedness that affected cell-material interactions. In the chick chorioallantoic membrane assay, Meso BioMatrix and OASIS best supported cell infiltration. Among tested materials, Meso BioMatrix and OASIS demonstrated characteristics that facilitate scaffold incorporation, making them promising choices for many clinical applications. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new sesterterpene, sesteralterin (1), four new meroterpenes, tricycloalterfurenes A–D (2–5), and a known meroterpene, TCA-F (6), were obtained from the culture extract of an Alternaria alternata strain (k21-1) isolated from the surface of the marine red alga Lomentaria hakodatensis. The structures and relative/absolute configurations of these compounds were identified by spectroscopic analyses, mainly including 1D/2D NMR, ECD, and mass spectra and quantum chemical calculations. Compound 1 represents the first nitidasane sesterterpene naturally produced by fungi, and 2–5 feature a tetrahydrofuran unit rarely occurring in tricycloalternarenes. Compounds 1–6 were assayed for inhibition of the growth of four marine plankton and one marine alga-pathogenic bacterium.

The clinical efficacy of ulinastatin (UTI) combined with continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) in the treatment after early cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was evaluated. A total of 70 patients who were successfully treated with CPR in Ganzhou People's Hospital from October 2016 to March 2017 were selected as the subjects. The patients were randomly divided into control group (35 cases, conventional treatment) and UTI combined with CRRT group (35 cases, UTI + CRRT). The whole blood of patients was collected at 0, 3, 6 and 12 h after CPR. The structure and absolute configuration of 1 were unequivocally identified by using NMR and mass spectroscopic methods as well as quantum chemical calculations. Compound 1 exhibited weak antibacterial activity.

Three methods have been used to modify the porous titanium surface, which is the alkali heat treatment, alkali heat treatment + SBF solution soak and alkali heat treatment + precalcidied + SBF solution soak. The morphology of different surfaces was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The MC3T3-E1 osteoblast cell was cultured on the modified and unmodified surface of porous titanium with 3days and 7days, the morphology of osteoblast adhesion and growth on different surface was observed. The results showed that osteoblast adhere on the modified and unmodified surface of the porous titanium. Osteoblast on AHS and HA modified surface can grow and spread, but it cannot grow and spread on unmodified and AH modified surface of the porous titanium. Osteoblast can grow across the different titanium fibers of on HA modified surface of porous titanium. Osteoblast on the HA surface has the very good biological suitability, which is beneficial to the combination of bone tissue and porous titanium.

Their structures and absolute configurations were identified by NMR and mass spectroscopic methods as well as quantum chemical calculations. Some of the isolates exhibited antibacterial activity and brine shrimp toxicity.

Biological surgical scaffolds are used in plastic and reconstructive surgery to support structural reinforcement and regeneration of soft tissue defects. Macrophage and fibroblast cell populations heavily regulate scaffold integration into host tissue following implantation. In the present study, the biological host response to a commercially available surgical scaffold (Meso BioMatrix Surgical Mesh (MBM)) was investigated for up to 9 weeks after subcutaneous implantation; this scaffold promoted superior cell migration and infiltration previously in in vitro studies relative to other commercially available scaffolds. Infiltrating macrophages and fibroblasts phenotypes were assessed for evidence of inflammation and remodeling. At week 1, macrophages were the dominant cell population, but fibroblasts were most abundant at subsequent time points. At week 4, the scaffold supported inflammation modulation as indicated by M1 to M2 macrophage polarization; the foreign body giant cell response resolved by week 9. Unexpectedly, a fibroblast subpopulation expressed macrophage phenotypic markers, following a similar trend in transitioning from a proinflammatory to anti-inflammatory phenotype. Also, α-smooth muscle actin-expressing myofibroblasts were abundant at weeks 4 and 9, mirroring collagen expression and remodeling activity. MBM supported physiologic responses observed during normal wound healing, including cellular infiltration, host tissue ingrowth, remodeling of matrix proteins, and immune modulation. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Citrinovirin (1), a novel norditerpene with an unprecedented carbon skeleton along with three known compounds, cyclonerodiol (2), 3-(2-hydroxypropyl)-4-(hexa-2E,4E-dien-6-yl)furan-2(5H)-one (3), and 5-hydroxy-3-hydroxymethyl-2-methyl-7-methoxychromone (4), was isolated from the culture of a marine brown alga-endophytic strain (cf-27) of Trichoderma citrinoviride. The structure and relative configuration of 1 were identified by spectroscopic methods, including 1D/2D NMR and MS. Its absolute configuration was established by analysis of ECD spectrum, aided by quantum chemical calculations. A plausible biogenetic pathway is proposed for 1, and it was evaluated to be active against Staphylococcus aureus.
