Abstract While chronic limb-threatening ischemia is a serious peripheral artery disease, the lack of an appropriate stent significantly limits the potential of interventional treatment. In spite of much progress in coronary stents, little is towards peripheral stents, which are expected to be both long and biodegradable and thus require a breakthrough in core techniques. Herein, we develop a long and biodegradable stent with a length of up to 118 mm based on a metal-polymer composite material. To achieve a well-prepared homogeneous coating on a long stent during ultrasonic spraying, a magnetic levitation is employed. In vivo degradation of the stent is investigated in rabbit abdominal aorta/iliac arteries, and its preclinical safety is evaluated in canine infrapopliteal arteries. First-in-man implantation of the stent is carried out in the below-the-knee artery. The 13 months’ follow-ups demonstrate the feasibility of the long and biodegradable stent in clinical applications.

Abstract We study the scalar induced gravitational waves (SIGWs) from a chiral scalar–tensor theory of gravity. The parity-violating (PV) Lagrangian contains the Chern–Simons (CS) term and PV scalar–tensor terms, which are built of the quadratic Riemann tensor term and first-order derivatives of a scalar field. We consider SIGWs in two cases, in which the semi-analytic expression to calculate SIGWs can be obtained. Then, we calculate the fractional energy density of SIGWs with a monochromatic power spectrum for the curvature perturbation. We find that the SIGWs in chiral scalar–tensor gravity behave differently from those in GR before and after the peak frequency, which results in a large degree of circular polarization.

Abstract Scalar fields play an important role in constructing modified gravity theories. In the case of a single scalar field with timelike gradient, the corresponding Lagrangian in the unitary gauge takes the form of spatially covariant gravity (SCG), which is proved useful in analyzing and extending the generally covariant theories. In this work, we apply the SCG method to the scalar-nonmetricity theory, of which the Lagrangian is built of the nonmetricity tensor and a scalar field. We derive the 3+1 decomposition of the geometric quantities and especially covariant derivatives of the scalar field up to the third order in the presence of a nonvanishing nonmetricity tensor. By fixing the unitary gauge, the resulting Lagrangian takes the form of a SCG with nonmetricity, in which all the ingredients are spatial tensors. We then exhaust the scalar monomials of SCG with nonmetricity up to $$d=3$$ d = 3 with d the total number of derivatives. Since the disformation tensor plays as an auxiliary variable, we take the Lagrangian with $$d=2$$ d = 2 as an example to show that after solving the disformation tensor, we can get an effective SCG theory for the metric variables but with modified coefficients. Our results provides a novel approach to extending the scalar-nonmetricity theory.

Prefabricated converter station building has been gradually applied in the field of power engineering construction due to the advantages of standardized design, high construction efficiency, and quality control. The beam–column joint is the essential constitutive part to ensure structural integrity and reliable force transmission for the prefabricated structure. In this paper, a novel load bearing-energy dissipation connection is proposed and applied to the beam–column joint to improve seismic performance and seismic resilience. Pseudo-static tests were conducted on the beam–column joint with the load bearing-energy dissipation connection, and the test results demonstrated that the tested beam–column joints developed with similar failure modes, and the damage was concentrated in the load bearing-energy dissipation connection while the beam and column remained elastic. The beam–column joint with the load bearing-energy dissipation connection had stable hysteresis behavior, with favorable bearing capacity and energy dissipation behavior. A shorter slip length and a larger bolt distance could lead to better stress development and enhance the bearing capacity, while the slip length barely affected the ductile behavior. Moreover, a finite element model was established and validated to extend the parametric study to provide a preliminary understanding of the mechanical mechanism of the proposed beam–column joint with the load bearing-energy dissipation connection. It was confirmed that the load–-deformation behavior was greatly affected by the slip length, but the slip length barely affected the initial stiffness. The width of the sliding steel fuse influenced the bearing capacity and the degradation behavior. A wider width could lead to a higher bearing capacity and improve the degradation behavior. Based on the analysis of the stress development and stress distribution corresponding to different feature points, it was concluded that the use of bearing-energy dissipation improved the stress development in the framing components and achieved damage concentration.

Abstract Background Diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) are a serious complication of diabetes that lead to significant morbidity and mortality. Recent studies reported that exosomes secreted by human adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) might alleviate DFU development. However, the molecular mechanism of ADSCs-derived exosomes in DFU is far from being addressed. Methods Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were induced by high-glucose (HG), which were treated with exosomes derived from nuclear factor I/C (NFIC)-modified ADSCs. MicroRNA-204-3p (miR-204-3p), homeodomain-interacting protein kinase 2 (HIPK2), and NFIC were determined using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and angiogenesis were assessed using cell counting kit-8, 5-ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine (EdU), flow cytometry, wound healing, and tube formation assays. Binding between miR-204-3p and NFIC or HIPK2 was predicted using bioinformatics tools and validated using a dual-luciferase reporter assay. HIPK2, NFIC, CD81, and CD63 protein levels were measured using western blot. Exosomes were identified by a transmission electron microscope and nanoparticle tracking analysis. Results miR-204-3p and NFIC were reduced, and HIPK2 was enhanced in DFU patients and HG-treated HUVECs. miR-204-3p overexpression might abolish HG-mediated HUVEC proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and angiogenesis in vitro. Furthermore, HIPK2 acted as a target of miR-204-3p. Meanwhile, NFIC was an upstream transcription factor that might bind to the miR-204-3p promoter and improve its expression. NFIC-exosome from ADSCs might regulate HG-triggered HUVEC injury through miR-204-3p-dependent inhibition of HIPK2. Conclusion Exosomal NFIC silencing-loaded ADSC sheet modulates miR-204-3p/HIPK2 axis to suppress HG-induced HUVEC proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis, providing a stem cell-based treatment strategy for DFU.

Abstract The associations between particulate matter (PM) and overall and specific mental disorders (MDs) are investigated using data from two general hospitals in Shijiazhuang, China, from January 2014 to December 2019. A longitudinal time series study, as one type of ecological study, is conducted using a generalized additive model to examine the relationship between short-term exposure to PM2.5, PM10, and daily hospital admissions for MDs, and further stratification by subtypes, age, and gender. A total of 10,709 cases of hospital admissions for MDs have been identified. The significant short-time effects of PM2.5 on overall MDs at lag01 and PM10 at lag05 are observed, respectively. For specific mental disorders, there are substantial associations of PM pollution with mood disorders and organic mental disorders. PM2.5 has the greatest cumulative effect on daily admissions of mood disorders and organic mental disorders in lag01, and PM 10 has the greatest cumulative effect in lag05. Moreover, the effect modification by sex or age is statistically significant, with males and the elderly (≥ 45 years) having a stronger effect. Short-term exposure to PM2.5 and PM10can be associated with an increased risk of daily hospital admissions for MDs.

Cisplatin is a widely used antineoplastic drug for treating various types of cancers. However, it can cause severe side effects, such as bilateral and irreversible hearing loss, which significantly impacts quality of life. Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of programmed cell death, has been implicated in the pathogenesis of cisplatin-induced ototoxicity. Here, we investigated the effects of nuciferine, a natural active ingredient isolated from lotus species, on the ferroptosis of cochlear hair cells. Firstly, our results demonstrated that nuciferine can protect hair cells against RSL3-induced and cisplatin-induced damage. Secondly, nuciferine treatment reduced ferrous iron (Fe2+) overload in cochlear hair cells via inhibiting NCOA4-mediated ferritinophagy. Inhibition of ferritinophagy by knocking down Ncoa4 alleviated cisplatin-induced ototoxicity. Importantly, nuciferine treatment mitigated cochlear hair cell loss and damage to ribbon synapse, and improved mouse hearing function in an acute cisplatin-induced hearing loss model. Our findings highlight the role of NCOA4-mediated ferritinophagy in the pathogenesis of cisplatin-induced ototoxicity and provide evidence for nuciferine as a promising protective agent for treating cisplatin-induced hearing loss.

Abstract Background Previous studies have reported that the tumor heterogeneity and complex oncogenic mechanisms of proximal and distal colon cancer (CRC) are divergent. Therefore, we aim to analyze the differences between left-sided CRC (L_cancer) and right-sided CRC (R_cancer), as well as constructing respective nomograms. Methods We enrolled 335 colon cancer patients (146 L_cancer patients and 189 R_cancer patients) from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data sets, and 102 pairs of color cancer tissue and adjacent normal tissue (51 L_cancer patients and 51 R_cancer patients) from our hospital. Firstly, we analyzed the differences between the L_cancer patients and R_cancer patients, and then established the L_cancer and R_cancer prognostic models using LASSO Cox. Results R_cancer patients had lower survival than L_cancer patients. R_cancer patients had higher ESTIMATE and immune scores and lower tumor purity. These patterns of expression of immune checkpoint-related genes and TMB level were higher in R_cancer than in L_cancer patients. Finally, we using Lasso Cox regression analyses established a prognostic model for L_cancer patients and a prognostic model for R_cancer patients. The AUC values of the risk score for OS in L_cancer were 0.862 in the training set and 0.914 in the testing set, while those in R_cancer were 0.835 in the training set and 0.857 in the testing set. The AUC values in fivefold cross-validation were between 0.727 and 0.978, proving that the two prognostic models have great stability. The nomogram of L_cancer included prognostic genes, age, pathological M, pathological stage, and gender, the AUC values of which were 0.800 in the training set and 0.905 in the testing set. Meanwhile, the nomogram of R_cancer comprised prognostic genes, pathological N, pathological T, and age, the AUC values of which were 0.836 in the training set and 0.850 in the testing set. In the R_cancer patients, high-risk patients had a lower proportion of ‘B cells memory’, ‘Dendritic cells resting’, immune score, ESTIMATE score, immune checkpoint-related genes, and HLA-family genes, and a higher proportion of ‘T cells follicular helper’, ‘Dendritic cells activated’, and ‘Mast cells activated’. Conclusions We found significant differences between L_cancer and R_cancer patients and established a clinical predictive nomogram for L_cancer patients and a nomogram for R_cancer patients. Additionally, R_cancer patients in low-risk groups may be more beneficial from immunotherapy.

Abstract Background Studies have shown that a direct association exists between the diet and blood uric acid concentrations. However, works on the association of dietary patterns with blood uric acid concentrations and hyperuricemia remain limited. Objective This study aims to evaluate the association of dietary patterns with blood uric acid concentrations and hyperuricemia. Methods The relationship between dietary patterns and hyperuricemia was explored through a nutritional epidemiological survey in China (n = 4855). Three statistical methods, including principal component analysis, reduced rank regression (RRR), and partial least squares regression, were used to extract dietary patterns. General linear regression and logistic regression analyses were utilized to explore the relationship of dietary patterns with blood uric acid concentrations and hyperuricemia. Results After adjusting for potential confounding factors, the score for the plant-based dietary pattern was found to be negatively correlated with blood uric acid levels (β = − 3.225) and that for the animal dietary pattern was discovered to be directly correlated with blood uric acid levels (β = 3.645). AIM: To investigate the prevalence and risk factors of dry eye(DE)among middle school students in Nantong.METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 1 939 middle school students in January 2021. The minimum sample size was calculated by cluster random sampling. A dry eye questionnaire was used to assess the prevalence and risk factors of DE in middle school students. DE was defined as often or all the time presence of one or more DE symptoms(i.e. “eye dryness” “grittiness” “burning sensation” “redness” “crusting of lashes” “eyelids getting stuck”). The risk factors associated with DE were evaluated by Logistics regression analysis.RESULTS: The prevalence of DE was 19.55%. The most reported dry eye symptom was “eyelids getting stuck”, accounting for 60.95%. Female(OR: 1.287, 95%CI: 1.018-1.626, P=0.035), the daily time of electrical appliances use at near distance >2h(OR: 1.927, 95%CI: 1.260-2.947, P=0.002), the daily time of reading and writing after class >3h(OR: 1.588, 95%CI: 1.214-2.079, P=0.001), frequent use of eye drops(OR: 1.908, 95%CI: 1.359-2.680, P6-8h, OR: 0.627, 95%CI: 0.477-0.823, P=0.001; >8h, OR: 0.511, 95%CI: 0.283-0.922, P=0.026)was an independent protective factor for the disease.CONCLUSION: The prevalence of DE among middle school students is high and should not be ignored. Preventive measures against risk factors may help to reduce the prevalence of DE and have a positive impact on the health of students.

Aims We investigated the incidence and clinical features of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in inpatients with mental illnesses. Methods We retrospectively analyzed records of inpatients with mental illnesses and confirmed VTE at The First Hospital of Hebei Medical University between August 2018 and July 2022. We recorded demographic characteristics, psychosis-related conditions, and thrombus distribution. Results Among 12939 patients diagnosed with mental illness, 156 (1.21%) presented with VTE at the first visit or during the disease course. Crude VTE incidence varied significantly across mental illnesses, being highest in patients with organic mental disorders (5.20%), followed by emotional disorders (1.10%), and others ( P

Abstract Background Sedentary behaviours (SBs) are now considered a risk factor for depression. Older adults are sedentary most of the time and are at a high risk of depression. However, not all types of SBs have adverse effects on mental health. Passive SBs (such as watching TV) increase the risk of depression, whereas mentally active SBs (such as using the internet and reading) decrease the risk of depression. The aim of this study was to explore the associations between type of SBs (i.e., passive and mentally active SBs) and depression among people aged 60 years and older in the Hebei Province of China. Methods This cross-sectional study used data from the baseline survey of the Community-based Cohort Study on Nervous System Diseases. A total of 2679 older adults aged ≥60 years from the Hebei Province of China were included in this study. The type and time spent on SBs were self-reported. Watching TV was defined as a passive SB, whereas internet use, reading, and social SBs (including communicating with others and playing chess) were defined as mentally active SBs. Depression was evaluated using the Geriatric Depression Scale. The maximal possible score was 30 points, and ≥ 11 points indicated depression. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the relationship between SBs and depression. Covariates included sex, age, education, employment, smoking, alcohol consumption, sleep duration, domestic work, physical exercise, body mass index (BMI), and chronic diseases. Results At baseline, the participants who spent two or more hours and 0 h on passive SBs (i.e., TV viewing) had a greater risk of depression (=0 h: adjusted OR = 2.09, 95% CI = 1.18–3.76; 2–3 h: OR = 2.21, 95% CI = 1.16–4.16; > 3 h: OR = 3.59, 95% CI = 1.93–6.68) than the participants who spent 1–2 h on passive SBs. The participants who spent > 1 h on mentally active SBs had a lower risk of depression (adjusted OR = 0.26, 95% CI = 0.06–0.71) than the participants who did not engage in mentally active SBs. Not all mentally active SBs were linked to depression. The participants who engaged in social SBs had a lower risk of depression (adjusted OR: 0.24, 95% CI: 0.06–0.66) than the participants who did not engage in social SBs. Conclusions Spending 2 h or more per day on passive SBs (watching TV) was associated with a high risk of depression among people aged 60 years and older in the Hebei Province of China. Mentally active SBs (predominantly social SBs) could reduce the risk of depression. Some participants with depression probably did not watch TV. These findings suggested that spending more time on social SBs (such as communicating with others and playing chess) rather than watching TV may have important public health implications for preventing and managing depression among older Chinese adults. Moreover, society should attend to the mental health of elderly adults who do not watch TV as they may be more prone to suffer from depressive symptoms.

We investigate the scalar perturbations in a class of spatially covariant gravity theory with a dynamical lapse function. Generally, there are two scalar degrees of freedom due to the presence of the velocity of the lapse function. We treat the scalar perturbations as analogues of those in a two-field inflationary mode, in which one is light mode and the other is the heavy mode. This is justified by the fact that the scalar mode due to the dynamical lapse function becomes infinitely heavy in the limit when the lapse function reduces to be an auxiliary variable. The standard approaches of multiple filed perturbations can be applied to deal with our model. By integrating out the heavy mode and derive the effective theory for the single light field, we find the solution to the single mode in the form of plane waves. Then we calculate the corrections to the power spectrum of the light mode from the heavy mode, by making use of the standard perturbative method of field theory. At last, when the two fields are not weakly coupled, we find a power law mode for the coupled system in large scales.

Summary: Time-restricted eating (TRE) is known to improve metabolic health, whereas very few studies have compared the effects of early and late TRE (eTRE and lTRE) on metabolic health. Overweight and obese young adults were randomized to 6-h eTRE (eating from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.) (n = 21), 6-h lTRE (eating from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.) (n = 20), or a control group (ad libitum intake in a day) (n = 19). After 8 weeks, 6-h eTRE and lTRE produced comparable body weight loss compared with controls. Compared with control, 6-h eTRE reduced systolic blood pressure, mean glucose, fasting insulin, insulin resistance, leptin, and thyroid axis activity, whereas lTRE only reduced leptin. These findings shed light on the promise of 6-h eTRE and lTRE for weight loss. Larger studies are needed to assess the promise of eTRE to yield better thyroid axis modulation and overall cardiometabolic health improvement.

Abstract Rapid thermal annealing is an effective way to improve the optical properties of semiconductor materials and devices. In this paper, the emission characteristics of GaAs0.92Sb0.08/Al0.3Ga0.7As multiple quantum wells, which investigated by temperature-dependent photoluminescence, are adjusted through strain and interfacial diffusion via rapid thermal annealing. The light-hole (LH) exciton emission and the heavy-hole (HH) exciton emission are observed at room temperature. After annealing, the LH and HH emission peaks have blue shift. It can be ascribed to the variation of interfacial strain at low annealing temperature and the interfacial diffusion between barrier layer and well layer at high annealing temperature. This work is of great significance for emission adjustment of strained multiple quantum wells.

This paper studied the anti-seepage ability of the modified loess by using attapulgite, which is abundant in local areas. The possibility of using the modified loess as the sustainable compacted soil liner material in a solid waste landfill was also considered in this research. The materials were then evaluated using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and an Impermeability Mechanism (IM). The experimental results showed that the permeability coefficient of the attapulgite-modified loess decreases significantly with increasing attapulgite content. However, it becomes less significant when the attapulgite level approaches 10%. Both cases can meet the landfill impermeability requirements, based on the attapulgite content remaining at 10%, adding 15% lime or 5% cement, respectively. The triaxial consolidation and drainage experiment was carried out to investigate the shear strength of the materials under three different working circumstances. The stress–strain curves of each specimen were produced, as were the cohesion and internal friction angle values. This research lays the groundwork for using attapulgite-modified loess as a landfill lining material. It establishes a solid platform for future studies on attapulgite adsorption and purifying performance in landfills.

Abstract In this report, comparative investigation of photoluminescence (PL) characteristics of CdS nanobelts (NBs) and nanowires (NWs) is presented. At low temperatures, emissions originate from radiative recombination of free exciton A, neutral donor bound exciton, neutral acceptor bound exciton and surface related exciton (SX) are observed and analyzed through power-dependent and temperature-dependent PL measurements. We found that SX emission takes a predominant role in emissions of CdS nanobelts and nanowires. There is a direct correlation between SX emission intensity and surface-to-volume ratio, which is the SX emission intensity is proportional to the superficial area of the nanostructures. At the same time, we found that the exciton-phonon interaction in the CdS NWs sample is weaker than that of CdS NBs sample. Furthermore, lasing action has been observed in CdS NBs sample at room temperature with lasing threshold of 608.13 mW/cm2. However, there is no lasing emission in CdS NWs sample. This phenomenon can be explained by the side effects (such as thermal effects) from surface deep level transitions caused the lower damage threshold in CdS NWs. Based on the observations and deductions presented here, SX emission significantly impact on the performance of nanostructures for lasing and light-emitting applications.

Here the authors study the role of Gprasp2 in the CNS and show that it regulates the surface availability of mGluR5 receptors and that knockout mice for this protein show autistic-like behavioural abnormalities.

Abstract The enhancement of optical properties via thermal annealing on InP/ZnS core/shell quantum dot (QD) film was investigated in this work. The increase of emission intensities of the QD films was observed after thermal annealing at 180 °C for 5 min. Through temperature dependence photoluminescence (TDPL) and power dependence photoluminescence (PL) measurement, the peak located at the low-energy shoulder was confirmed to be localized state emission and the high energy one comes from free-carrier emission. Moreover, from the TDPL spectra of the sample annealed at 180 °C for 5 min, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of localization state emission was nearly the same before which is 250 K and then decreased with increasing temperature. However, the FWHM was decreased significantly when temperature increased in the untreated sample. We conclude that the escape of localization states with increasing temperature contributes to this anomaly phenomenon. Our studies have significance on the application of QDs in electroluminescence devices and down-conversion light-emitting devices.

BackgroundSeminoma (SEM) is the most frequent testicular germ cell tumor with a high incidence in young men. The present study aims to explore the function and regulatory mechanism of miR-483-3p in SEM.MethodsRT-qPCR was performed to investigate miR-483-3p levels in SEM tissues. The effect of miR-483-3p on TCam-2 cells was assessed by CCK-8, colony formation, cell migration, and invasion assays. Luciferase reporter assays were performed to investigate the interaction between miR-483-3p and MMP9, and then the recovery experiments were performed. Moreover, the potential upstream regulator of miR-483-3p was predicted based on JASPAR database.ResultsmiR-483-3p was down-regulated in SEM tissues versus paracancerous normal tissues. The expression level of miR-483-3p was significantly associated with tumor stage by RT-qPCR. Functionally, miR-483-3p over-expression suppressed cell growth, migration, and invasion in SEM cell lines. Mechanically, miR-483-3p negatively regulated MMP9 by directly binding to its 3′-UTR. The over-expression of miR-483-3p could reverse the promoting role of MMP9 over-expression on the proliferation, migration, and invasion of TCam-2 cells. Moreover, KLF9 was identified as a potential upstream regulator of miR-483-3p and functions as a tumor suppressor.ConclusionsIn general, our study suggested that miR-483-3p could inhibit the cell growth, migration, and invasion of testicular SEM by targeting MMP9. Moreover, KLF9 is an upstream positive regulator of miR-483-3p and also functions as a tumor suppressor in SEM.

Although structural phase transitions in single-crystal hybrid methyl-ammonium (MA) lead halide perovskites (MAPbX3, X = Cl, Br, I) as a function of temperature are common phenomena, they have never been observed in the corresponding nanocrystals. Here, we demonstrate that two-photon-excited photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy is capable of monitoring structural phase transitions in MAPbX3 nanocrystals because nonlinear susceptibilities govern the incident light absorption rates. We provide experimental evidence that the orthorhombic-to-tetragonal structural phase transition in a single layer of 20-nm-sized 3D MAPbBr3 nanocrystals is spread out within the T ∼ 70 K–140 K temperature range. This structural phase instability is believed to arise because, unlike in single-crystal MAPbX3, free rotations of MA ions in the corresponding nanocrystals are no longer restricted by a long-range MA dipole order. The resulting configurational entropy loss can be even enhanced by the interfacial electric field arising due to charge separation at the MAPbBr3/ZnO heterointerface, extending the structural phase instability range from T ∼ 70 K–230 K. We conclude that weak sensitivity of conventional one-photon-excited PL spectroscopy to structural phase transitions in 3D MAPbX3 nanocrystals results from structural phase instability and hence from negligible distortions of PbX6 octahedra. In contrast, the intensity of two-photon-excited PL and electric-field-induced one-photon-excited PL show higher sensitivity since nonlinear susceptibilities are involved. We also show that room-temperature PL may originate from the radiative recombination of the optical-phonon vibrationally excited polaronic excitons with energies might exceed the ground-state Fröhlich polaron and Rashba energies due to optical-phonon bottleneck.

Competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) are a newly proposed RNA interaction mechanism that has been associated with the tumorigenesis, metastasis, diagnosis, and predicting survival of various cancers. In this study, we constructed a ceRNA network in colorectal cancer (CRC). Then, we sought to develop and validate a composite clinicopathologic–genomic nomogram using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. To construct the ceRNA network in CRC, we analyzed the mRNAseq, miRNAseq data, and clinical information from TCGA database. LncRNA, miRNA, and mRNA signatures were identified to construct risk score as independent indicators of the prognostic value in CRC patients. A composite clinicopathologic–genomic nomogram was developed to predict the overall survival (OS). One hundred sixty-one CRC-specific lncRNAs, 97 miRNAs, and 161 mRNAs were identified to construct the ceRNA network. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analysis indicated that nine-lncRNA signatures, eight-miRNA signatures, and five-mRNA signatures showed a significant prognostic value for CRC. Furthermore, a clinicopathologic–genomic nomogram was constructed in the primary cohort, which performed well in both the primary and validation sets. This study presents a nomogram that incorporates the CRC-specific ceRNA expression profile, clinical features, and pathological factors, which demonstrate its excellent differentiation and risk stratification in predicting OS in CRC patients.

Abstract Objective This study aimed to investigate the effect of the p38 mitogen‐activated protein kinase (p38MAPK) signaling pathway on olfactory mucosa function and apoptosis of olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) in an allergic rhinitis (AR) mouse model. Method Fifty‐five BALB/c mice were used to establish AR models by ovalbumin, and their olfactory function was confirmed by the buried food pellet test. Then, 28 mice with hyposmia were selected. SB203580, a p38MAPK inhibitor, and normal saline (NS) were injected into mice with olfactory defects. The olfactory function, apoptosis of OSNs in olfactory mucosa, and the expression of the olfaction marker protein (OMP), p38MAPK, and p‐p38MAPK were detected after the intervention. Result SB203580 treatment significantly upregulated OMP expression and significantly improved the olfactory function of AR mice by reducing the percentage of apoptotic OSNs. In addition, SB203580 attenuated the activation of the p38MAPK signaling pathway. Conclusion SB203580 protected olfactory function in an AR mouse model. This protective effect may be associated with the antiapoptotic effects of SB203580 via the p38MAPK signaling pathway.

In China, few people are aware of the amount and source of their salt intake. We conducted a survey to investigate the consumption and sources of dietary salt using the “one-week salt estimation method” by weighing cooking salt and major salt-containing food, and estimating salt intake during dining out based on established evidence. Nine hundred and three families (1981 adults and 971 children) with students in eight primary or junior high schools in urban and suburban Beijing were recruited. On average, the daily dietary salt intake of family members in Beijing was 11.0 (standard deviation: 6.2) g for children and adolescents (under 18 years old), 15.2 (9.1) g for adults (18 to 59 years old), and 10.2 (4.8) g for senior citizens (60 years old and over), respectively. Overall, 60.5% of dietary salt was consumed at home, and 39.5% consumed outside the home. Approximately 90% of the salt intake came from cooking (household cooking and cafeteria or restaurant cooking), while less than 10% came from processed food. In conclusion, the dietary salt intake in Beijing families far surpassed the recommended amounts by World Health Organization, with both household cooking and dining-out as main sources of salt consumption. More targeted interventions, especially education about major sources of salt and corresponding methods for salt reduction should be taken to reduce the risks associated with a high salt diet.

In low oil price era, it seems that ASP flooding has little market. However, ASP progress in China shows that ASP flooding is good technology to help oil companies thrive and make profit. Since 2014, ASP flooding has entered industrial application in Daqing oilfield. ASP flooding production in 2015 is 3.5 million ton, 9% of the oilfield’s total production of Daqing oilfield. There are 22 ASP flooding blocks in Daqing, containing 7231 wells and 3 are new blocks in 2016. Obviously, more and more ASP flooding is being carried out. Another large ASP flooding field test in high temperature (80°C) in Henan oilfield has got staged incremental oil recovery of 7.7%. Latest theory and application in ASP flooding in China are reviewed to help ASP flooding go from success to more application. Weak alkali is better than strong alkali ASP flooding. Relation between viscosity and IFT is discussed. This paper also explains why weak alkali ASP flooding is promoted in Daqing after 12 field tests on strong alkali one. ASP flooding can be a great help to survive low oil price.

Groups III–V semiconductors have received a great deal of attention because of their potential advantages for use in optoelectronic and electronic applications. Gallium antimonide (GaSb) and GaSb-related semiconductors, which exhibit high carrier mobility and a narrow band gap (0.725 eV at 300 K), have been recognized as suitable candidates for high-performance optoelectronics in the mid-infrared range. However, the performances of the resulting devices are strongly dependent on the structural and emission properties of the materials. Enhancement of the crystal quality, adjustment of the alloy components, and improvement of the emission properties have therefore become the focus of research efforts toward GaSb semiconductors. Molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) is suitable for the large-scale production of GaSb, especially for high crystal quality and beneficial optical properties. We review the recent progress in the epitaxy of GaSb materials, including films and nanostructures composed of GaSb-related alloys and compounds. The emission properties of these materials and their relationships to the alloy components and material structures are also discussed. Specific examples are included to provide insight on the common general physical and optical properties and parameters involved in the synergistic epitaxy processes. In addition, the further directions for the epitaxy of GaSb materials are forecasted.
