Fengyun meteorological satellites have undergone a series of significant developments over the past 50 years. Two generations, four types, and 21 Fengyun satellites have been developed and launched, with 9 currently operational in orbit. The data obtained from Fengyun satellites is employed in a multitude of applications, including weather forecasting, meteorological disaster prevention and reduction, climate change, global environmental monitoring, and space weather. These data products and services are made available to the global community, resulting in tangible social and economic benefits. In 2023, two Fengyun meteorological satellites were successfully launched. This report presents an overview of the two recently launched Fengyun satellites and currently in orbit Fengyun satellites, including an evaluation of their remote sensing instruments since 2022. Additionally, it addresses the subject of Fengyun satellite data archiving, data services, application services, international cooperation, and supporting activities. Furthermore, the development prospects have been outlined.

Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) is resistant to almost all antibiotics. Eravacycline, a newer treatment option, has the potential to treat CRAB infections, however, the mechanism by which CRAB isolates develop resistance to eravacycline has yet to be clarified. This study sought to investigate the features and mechanisms of eravacycline heteroresistance among CRAB clinical isolates. A total of 287 isolates were collected in China from 2020 to 2022. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of eravacycline and other clinically available agents against A. baumannii were determined using broth microdilution. The frequency of eravacycline heteroresistance was determined by population analysis profiling (PAP). Mutations and expression levels of resistance genes in heteroresistant isolates were determined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), respectively. Antisense RNA silencing was used to validate the function of eravacycline heteroresistant candidate genes. Twenty-five eravacycline heteroresistant isolates (17.36%) were detected among 144 CRAB isolates with eravacycline MIC values ≤4 mg/L while no eravacycline heteroresistant strains were detected in carbapenem-susceptible A. baumannii (CSAB) isolates. All eravacycline heteroresistant strains contained OXA-23 carbapenemase and the predominant multilocus sequence typing (MLST) was ST208 (72%). Cross-resistance was observed between eravacycline, tigecycline, and levofloxacin in the resistant subpopulations. The addition of efflux pump inhibitors significantly reduced the eravacycline MIC in resistant subpopulations and weakened the formation of eravacycline heteroresistance in CRAB isolates. The expression levels of adeABC and adeRS were significantly higher in resistant subpopulations than in eravacycline heteroresistant parental strains (P < 0.05). An ISAba1 insertion in the adeS gene was identified in 40% (10/25) of the resistant subpopulations. Decreasing the expression of adeABC or adeRS by antisense RNA silencing significantly inhibited eravacycline heteroresistance. In conclusion, this study identified the emergence of eravacycline heteroresistance in CRAB isolates in China, which is associated with high expression of AdeABC and AdeRS.

Abstract Background Cage subsidence causes poor prognoses in patients treated by oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF). Deterioration of the biomechanical environment initially triggers cage subsidence, and patients with low bone mineral density (BMD) suffer a higher risk of cage subsidence. However, whether low BMD increases the risk of cage subsidence by deteriorating the local biomechanical environment has not been clearly identified. Methods OLIF without additional fixation (stand-alone, S-A) and with different additional fixation devices (AFDs), including anterolateral single rod screws (ALSRs) and bilateral pedicle screws (BPSs) fixation, was simulated in the L4-L5 segment of a well-validated finite element model. The biomechanical effects of different BMDs were investigated by adjusting the material properties of bony structures. Biomechanical indicators related to cage subsidence were computed and recorded under different directional moments. Results Overall, low BMD triggers stress concentration in surgical segment, the highest equivalent stress can be observed in osteoporosis models under most loading conditions. Compared with the flexion-extension loading condition, this variation tendency was more pronounced under bending and rotation loading conditions. In addition, AFDs obviously reduced the stress concentration on both bony endplates and the OLIF cage, and the maximum stress on ALSRs was evidently higher than that on BPSs under almost all loading conditions. Conclusions Stepwise reduction of BMD increases the risk of a poor local biomechanical environment in OLIF patients, and regular anti-osteoporosis therapy should be considered an effective method to biomechanically optimize the prognosis of OLIF patients.

This study used four individual machine learning (ML) models (random forest, adaptive boosting, gradient boosting, and extreme gradient boosting), and a stacked ensemble model (SEM) for PM2.5 estimation over Greater Bangkok (GBK) during the dry season for 2018–2022. Aerosol optical depth (AOD) from Fengyun-4A satellite was used as the main predictor variable. The other predictor variables include meteorological variables, fire hotspots, vegetation index, terrain elevation, and population density. Surface PM2.5 from 17 air quality monitoring stations was used for model development and evaluation. Satellite AOD aligns reasonably well with AOD from two AERONET stations in the study area in terms of correlation coefficient (r), mean bias (MB), mean error (ME), and root mean square error (RMSE). Among the individual models, adaptive boosting performed the best with r = 0.75, MB = 0.55 µg m−3, ME = 9.1 µg m−3, and RMSE = 12.9 µg m−3. As for SEM which comprises all individual models, it outperformed every individual model, with r = 0.84, zero MB, ME = 7.2 µg m−3, and RMSE = 10.4 µg m−3. In two additional cases of haze hours and clean hours, SEM is best overall while adaptive boosting is superior to the other individual ML models. The case of haze hours has lower model predictability, suggesting elevated PM2.5 is difficult to predict. SEM was thus chosen to map PM2.5 as well as exposure intensity over GBK. Good agreement between the observed and predicted diurnal and monthly patterns is achieved by every model. PM2.5 tends to be relatively high at 08–10 LT and declines in later hours, corresponding to higher traffic emissions in the morning and daytime meteorological conditions more favorable to dilute air pollutants, respectively. PM2.5 intensifies in the winter but decreases in March and April. During these two months, the areas outside Bangkok tend to have higher PM2.5 than within Bangkok, possibly linked to active summertime biomass burning in those areas that are less urbanized with more agricultural lands. Relatively high exposure intensity is constrained to Bangkok due likely to its much denser population. The findings indicate a significant potential for leveraging the Fengyun-4A satellite data and ML to advance space-based air quality monitoring for Thailand and other data-scare regions in Southeast Asia. Satellite image sequence prediction aims to precisely infer future satellite image frames with historical observations, which is a significant and challenging dense prediction task. Though existing deep learning models deliver promising performance for satellite image sequence prediction, the methods suffer from quite expensive training costs, especially in training time and GPU memory demand, due to the inefficiently modeling for temporal variations. This issue seriously limits the lightweight application in satellites such as space-borne forecast models. In this article, we propose a lightweight prediction framework TinyPredNet for satellite image sequence prediction, in which a spatial encoder and decoder model the intra-frame appearance features and a temporal translator captures inter-frame motion patterns. To efficiently model the temporal evolution of satellite image sequences, we carefully design a multi-scale temporal-cascaded structure and a channel attention-gated structure in the temporal translator. Comprehensive experiments are conducted on FengYun-4A (FY-4A) satellite dataset, which show that the proposed framework achieves very competitive performance with much lower computation cost compared to state-of-the-art methods. In addition, corresponding interpretability experiments are conducted to show how our designed structures work. Abstract Objectives This study aims to determine the protection provided by Shenfu injection (a traditional Chinese medicine) against development of organ dysfunction in critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Trial design This study is a multicenter, randomized, controlled, open-label, two-arm ratio 1:1, parallel group clinical trial. Participants The patients, who are aged from 18 to 75 years old, with a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of severe or critical COVID-19, will be consecutively recruited in the study, according to the guideline on diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 (the 7th version) issued by National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China. Exclusion criteria include pregnant and breastfeeding women, atopy or allergies to Shenfu Injection (SFI), severe underlying disease (malignant tumor with multiple metastases, uncontrolled hemopathy, cachexia, severe malnutrition, HIV), active bleeding, obstructive pneumonia caused by lung tumor, severe pulmonary interstitial fibrosis, alveolar proteinosis and allergic alveolitis, continuous use of immunosuppressive drugs in last 6 months, organ transplantation, expected death within 48 hours, the patients considered unsuitable for this study by researchers. The study is conducted in 11 ICUs of designated hospitals for COVID-19, located in 5 cities of China. Intervention and comparator The enrolled patients will randomly receive 100 ml SFI (study group) or identical volume of saline (control group) twice a day for seven consecutive days. Patients in the both groups will be given usual care and the necessary supportive therapies as recommended by the latest edition of the management guidelines for COVID-19 (the 7th version so far). Main outcomes The primary endpoint is a composite of newly developed or exacerbated organ dysfunction. This is defined as an increase in the sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score of two or more, indicating sepsis and involvement of at least one organ. The SOFA score will be measured for the 14 days after enrolment from the baseline (the score at randomization). The secondary endpoints are shown below: • SOFA score in total • Pneumonia severity index score • Dosage of vasoactive drugs • Ventilation free days within 28 days • Length of stay in intensive care unit • Total hospital costs to treat the patient • 28-day mortality • The incidence of adverse drug events related to SFI Randomisation The block randomization codes were generated by SAS V.9.1 for allocation of participants in this study. The ratio of random distribution is 1:1. The sealed envelope method is used for allocation concealment. Blinding (masking) The patients and statistical personnel analyzing study data are both blinded. The blinding of group assignment is not adopted for the medical staff. Abstract Background Negative pressure pulmonary edema (NPPE) is a rare complication that is more prevalent in young patients. NPPE usually results from acute upper airway obstruction, which is most commonly caused by laryngospasm during extubation. NPPE is characterized by the sudden onset of coughing, hemoptysis, tachycardia, tachypnea, and hypoxia, and is dramatically improved with supportive care, which prevents severe sequelae. To our knowledge, there is no report of a patient developing NPPE after percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar lumbar discectomy. Case presentation Herein, we report the case of a 22-year-old amateur basketball player with L5/S1 disc herniation who developed NPPE during extubation after general anesthesia for a minimally invasive spinal surgery (percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar lumbar discectomy). The NPPE was treated by maintaining the airway patency, applying positive-pressure ventilation, administering dexamethasone and antibiotics, and limiting the volume of fluid infused. The patient had an uneventful postoperative course, and was discharged to his home on postoperative day 3. Conclusions Although NPPE is an infrequent complication, especially in patients undergoing percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar lumbar discectomy, this case report highlights the importance of early diagnosis and prompt treatment of NPPE to prevent the development of potentially fatal complications.
