The clinical features of children with TBG deficiency and their family members were summarised and the Serpina7 gene mutation was analysed, providing a reference for the differentiation of TBG deficiency.Methods: Thyroid function was detected in TBG deficient patients, and genetic analysis was performed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and direct DNA sequencing to detect the characteristics of TBG mutants. Using “thyroxine binding globulin, gene and mutation” as keywords, PubMed (biomedical literature database), Web of Science and other databases were searched for relevant studies to collect and summarise relevant information.Results: The TBG (14.7 μg/mL), 70% triiodothyronine (T3) (< 0.3 nmol/L), total T3 (Tr3) (< 0.05 ng/mL) and thyroxine (T4) (14.72 nmol/L) values were lower than normal, while the thyrotropin (TSH) (2.33 uIU/mL), free T3 (FT3) (1.62 pmol/L), and free T4 (FT4) (11.39 pmol/L) values were normal. These values indicate a TBG partially deficient phenotype. Using PCR amplification and direct sequencing of the target gene, a missense mutation in exon 4 of the Serpina7 gene was found in the patient and the father, and the nucleic acid variant was C.909 (exon 4) g > T; the patient was heterozygous and the father was hemizygous. The literature search retrieved a total of 45 studies, most of which were related to mutations in the Serpina7 gene. The mutation locations included exons, introns, enhancers and promoters, with exons the predominant location. A total of 49 variants of the Serpina7 gene were identified.Conclusion: Serpina7 C.909G (P.L303F) is a mutation acquired from the father by X-linked recessive inheritance. The main clinical features of TBG deficiency patients are low serum T4, T3 and TBG levels, normal TSH, FT3 and FT4 levels, and no clinical manifestations.Keywords: thyroxine-binding globulin, deficiency, genes, mutation

Background: Surgery with total gastrectomy and D2 lymph node dissection (LND) has been recommended as the standard treatment for patients with advanced upper and middle gastric carcinoma and/or Siewert type II/III adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction (AEG). However, whether the No. 10 lymph node (No. 10 LN, also known as splenic hilar LN) should be dissected in total gastrectomy remains controversial. We aimed to evaluate whether the No. 10 LND with spleen preservation has survival benefit for patients with gastric cancer and/or AEG who underwent the total gastrectomy., Methods: The PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, ClinicalTrials.gov and American Society of Clinical Oncology.org (ASCO.org) were electronically searched to identify eligible studies. The primary outcome was the survival rate, and secondary outcomes included the disease-free survival (DFS) rate and side effects. The Review Manager 5.3.5 software was used for the meta-analysis. The odds ratio (OR) and mean difference with 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated. The statistical heterogeneity was assessed using chi-square (χ 2 ) and I 2 tests., Results: Eight studies enrolling a total of 4,131 patients were eligible for our review. The meta-analysis results demonstrated that the No. 10 LND group was significantly better than the non-No. 10 LND group in terms of the 3- (OR =0.71, 95% CI: 0.62-0.81, P<0.00001) and the 5-year (OR =0.66, 95% CI: 0.58-0.75, P<0.00001) survival rates but not in the 1-year survival rate (OR =0.91, 95% CI: 0.75-1.11, P=0.36). The DFS rates in the No. 10 LND group were significantly increased after 1 (OR =0.76, 95% CI: 0.61-0.93, P=0.008), 3 (OR =0.69, 95% CI: 0.60-0.81, P<0.00001), and 5 (OR =0.66, 95% CI: 0.56-0.76, P<0.00001) years compared with those in the non-No. 10 LND group., Discussion: Evidence shows that the No. 10 LND with spleen preservation can improve the survival and the DFS rates for patients with gastric cancer and/or Siewert type II/III AEG who underwent the total gastrectomy. Total testosterone levels decline with age, while prostate volume and the prevalence of benign prostatic hyperplasia increase with age. We sought to investigate the correlation of serum testosterone levels with prostate volume in aging men. We analyzed clinical data obtained from 416 ostensibly healthy men who underwent routine health check-ups and recruited and collected data from these subjects 4 years later. We analyzed the correlation between prostate volume and relevant factors, as well as the correlation between changes in prostate volume and low testosterone over a 4-year period. Men with low testosterone had significantly larger prostate volume than those in the normal testosterone group (26.86 ± 8.75 vs. 24.06 ± 6.77 P = 0.02), and subjects with low testosterone had significantly higher levels of obesity-related factors, including waist circumference, body mass index, and insulin (all P < 0.001). After adjustment for age, testosterone level was negatively correlated with prostate volume (P = 0.004), and prostate volume and 4-year changes in prostate volume were associated with low testosterone. With increased testosterone level, prostate volume showed a significant linear decreasing trend. These findings provide evidence of the relationship between testosterone and prostate volume. Additional large studies are needed to confirm these preliminary results.

Dirac semimetals associated with bulk Dirac fermions are well known in topological electronic systems. In sharp contrast, three-dimensional (3D) Dirac phonons in crystalline solids are still unavailable. Here we perform symmetry arguments and first-principles calculations to systematically investigate 3D Dirac phonons in all space groups with inversion symmetry. The results show that there are two categories of 3D Dirac phonons depending on their protection mechanisms and positions in momentum space. The first category originates from the four-dimensional irreducible representations at the high symmetry points. The second category arises from the phonon branch inversion, and the symmetry guarantees Dirac points to be located along the high symmetry lines. Furthermore, we reveal that nonsymmorphic symmetries and the combination of inversion and time-reversal symmetries play essential roles in the emergence of 3D Dirac phonons. Our work not only offers a comprehensive understanding of 3D Dirac phonons but also provides significant guidance for exploring Dirac bosons in both phononic and photonic systems.

Objective: To investigate the potential mechanism of the effect of metabolic syndrome (MetS) on prostate volume (PV) and the risk of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)/lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and the relationships of MetS and the major pathogenic factors of MetS with the clinical progression of BPH/LUTS in older Chinese men., Subjects and Methods: We analyzed clinical data obtained from 506 ostensibly healthy men who underwent routine health check-ups and recruited 415 subjects from a group of previously studied men after 4 years. We evaluated the associations of major pathological factors of MetS, including insulin resistance, subclinical inflammatory state, and sex hormone changes, with PV, the risk of BPH and the clinical progression of BPH/LUTS by using multiple linear regression and logistic regression., Results: After adjustment for age, insulin, HOMA (homeostatic model assessment) index, leptin, resistin, adiponectin, C-reactive protein, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), sex hormone-binding globulin, and testosterone levels were significantly associated with PV (all P < .05), and in the age-adjusted logistic regression model, positive associations of resistin and TNF-α with BPH/LUTS were found (OR, 1.662, P = .007 and OR, 1.044, P < .001, respectively). Predictors of BPH/LUTS clinical progression were significantly correlated with MetS and TNF-α. The group with higher TNF-α levels had a higher rate of newly diagnosed BPH (9.5% vs 19.1%, P = .006) and a greater increase in PV levels (0.61 ± 0.08 vs 1.09 ± 0.35 cm 3 , P <.001) after 4 years., Conclusions: MetS and its pathological factors were associated with an increased PV and an increased risk of BPH/LUTS that is more prone to clinical progression. TNF-α may serve as an early biological indicator to identify which patients with BPH/LUTS are at higher risk of unfavorable outcomes., (© 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)

Weyl points are often believed to appear in pairs with opposite chirality. In this work, we show by first-principles calculations and symmetry analysis that single Weyl phonons with linear dispersion and double Weyl phonons with quadratic dispersion are simultaneously present between two specific phonon branches in realistic materials with trigonal or hexagonal lattices. These phonon Weyl points are guaranteed to locate at high-symmetry points due to the screw rotational symmetry, forming a unique triangular Weyl complex. In sharp contrast to conventional Weyl systems with surface arcs terminated at the projections of a pair of Weyl points with opposite chirality, the phonon surface arcs of the unconventional triangular Weyl complex connect the projections of one double Weyl point and two single Weyl points. Importantly, the phonon surface arcs originating from the triangular Weyl complex are extremely long and span the entire surface Brillouin zone. Furthermore, there are only nontrivial phonon surface states across the isofrequency surface, which facilitates their detection in experiments and further applications. Our work not only offers the promising triangular phonon Weyl complex but also provides guidance for exploring triangular Weyl bosons in both phononic and photonic systems.

Objective To evaluate the bone strength and structure of patients with obstructive sleep apnea(OSA)by the high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography(HR-pQCT)and to explore the relationship between OSA and osteoporosis. Methods Male patients who visited the Sleep Respiratory Center of our hospital from August 2017 to January 2019 were consecutively recruited.Clinical data including the results of Epworth sleep scale(ESS)scoring and overnight polysomnography were collected.HR-pQCT was used to compare the differences in bone geometry,density,and microstructure between OSA patients and non-OSA people;also,the radius and tibia on the non-dominant side were measured to explore the relationship between OSA and osteoporosis. Results A total of 83 subjects were enrolled in the study.The number of patients in the mild,moderate,and severe OSA groups and non-OSA group were 21,18,34,and 10,respectively.There was no significant difference in age,blood pressure,ESS score,sleep stage,and sleep efficiency among these four groups( P >0.05).Body mass index(BMI)and neck circumference were significantly different among these groups( F =4.234, P =0.008; F =3.100, P =0.031).There was no significant difference in the radius indicators( P >0.05).For tibia,there were significant differences among the four groups in the cortical area(Ct.Ar)( F =3.937, P =0.011).There were also significant differences in the bone microstructural indicators including trabecular thickness(Tb.Th)and cortical thickness(Ct.Th)( F =6.247, P =0.001; F =3.746, P =0.014),which were significantly lower in the three OSA groups than in the control group.Pairwise comparisons showed that the Ct.Ar in the severe OSA group was significantly higher than that in the mild OSA group( P =0.019)and Tb.Th in the control group was significantly higher than those in the mild and moderate OSA groups( P =0.006, P =0.001).Correlation analysis showed that,within a certain range,total volumetric bone mineral density(Tt.vBMD)and Tb.Th of radius and tibia were negatively correlated with age( r =-0.312, P =0.004; r =-0.328, P =0.002; r =-0.265, P =0.015; r =-0.280, P =0.010)and positively correlated with BMI( r =0.240, P =0.029; r =0.369, P =0.004; r =0.299, P =0.006; r =0.416, P =0.010).Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that Tb.Th of radius and tibia were mostly correlated with BMI( β =0.262, P =0.008, R 2 =0.243, F =6.270, P =0.000; β =0.494, P =0.000, R 2 =0.186, F =7.243, P =0.000)and age( β =-0.216, P =0.030, R 2 =0.243, F =6.270, P =0.000; β =-0.306, P =0.003, R 2 =0.186, F =7.243, P =0.000).Tt.vBMD of radius had a certain correlation with sleep efficiency and with the decreasing nocturnal mean oxygen saturation caused by OSA( β =0.312, P =0.002, β =-0.249, P =0.012, R 2 =0.327, F =7.482, P =0.000). Conclusions In non-elderly male populations,OSA mainly causes a decrease in Tb.Th and Ct.Th of the tibia.The changes in bone strength and structure are mainly related with age and body size and also have certain correlations with sleep efficiency and with the decreasing nocturnal mean oxygen saturation caused by OSA.

Background: X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis (XIAP) is a vital factor in the anti-apoptosis mechanism of tumors and is highly expressed in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). However, the mechanism through which XIAP regulates DNA damage repair is unknown. This study investigated the regulatory mechanism of XIAP in etoposide-induced apoptosis in two Caki-1 cell lines with high or low XIAP expression., Methods: The two cell lines were established using RNA interference technology. The differentially expressed proteins in the two cell lines were globally analyzed through an isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation-based quantitative proteomics approach. Proteomic analysis revealed 255, 375, 362, and 5 differentially expressed proteins after 0, 0.5, 3, and 12 h of drug stimulation, respectively, between the two cell lines. The identified differentially expressed proteins were involved in numerous biological processes. In addition, the expression of histone proteins (H1.4, H2AX, H3.1, H3.2, and H3.3) was drastically altered, and the effects of XIAP silencing were accompanied by the marked downregulation of H2AX. Protein-protein interactions were assessed and confirmed through immunofluorescence and Western blot analyses., Results: The results suggested that XIAP may act as a vital cell signal regulator that regulates the expression of DNA repair-related proteins, such as H2AX, and influences the DNA repair process., Conclusions: Given these functions, XIAP may be the decisive factor in determining the sensitivity of RCC cell apoptosis induction in response to chemotherapeutic agents.

Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) and serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels are correlated. To investigate the underlying effect of MetS on PSA levels, the relationship between the major pathogenic factors of MetS and serum PSA levels was studied., Methods: A total of 506 ostensibly healthy men who underwent routine health check-ups were recruited to this study. We evaluated the effect of the major pathogenic factors of MetS, which included insulin resistance, a subclinical inflammatory state and sexual hormone changes, on serum PSA levels by using linear regression analysis and multivariate analysis after adjusting for age, BMI and prostate volume., Results: When simultaneously adjusting for age, BMI, prostate volume and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, serum insulin levels and SHBG levels were inversely correlated with serum PSA levels (P = 0.049 and P = 0.004, respectively), and testosterone levels were positively correlated with serum PSA levels (P = 0.039). In multivariate regression models, serum insulin levels and serum SHBG levels were significantly associated with serum PSA levels (both P < 0.001)., Conclusions: Among the major pathogenic factors of metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance and sexual hormone changes may be the most significant contributors to the decline in serum PSA levels.

Nontrivial low-energy excitations of crystalline solids have insightfully strengthened understanding of elementary particles in quantum field theory. Usually, topological quasiparticles are mainly focused on fermions in topological semimetals. We alternatively show by first-principles calculations and symmetry analysis that ideal type-II Weyl phonons are present in zinc-blende cadmium telluride, a well-known II-VI semiconductor. Importantly, these type-II Weyl phonons originate from the inversion between the longitudinal acoustic and transverse optical branches. Symmetry guarantees that the type-II Weyl points lie along the high-symmetry lines at the boundaries of the Brillouin zone even with a breaking of inversion symmetry, exhibiting the robustness of protected phonon features. The nontrivial phonon surface states and surface arcs projected on the semifinite (001) and (111) surfaces are investigated. The phonon surface arcs connecting the Weyl points with opposite chirality, guaranteed to be very long, are clearly visible. We not only offer a promising candidate for studying type-II Weyl phonons but also provide a route to realize symmetry-protected nontrivial phonons and related applications in realistic materials.

The ferromagnetic Weyl semimetals with inversion symmetry usually possess odd pairs of Weyl fermions. Here, we present an inversion eigenvalue argument to dictate the existence of even pairs of ferromagnetic Weyl fermions. We show, by a combination of first-principles calculations and symmetry analyses, that this exotic topological feature can be verified in ferromagnetic oxides in different space groups. In particular, a realistic candidate, i.e., hollandite RbCr&#95;{4}O&#95;{8} with a high Curie temperature (∼295  K), hosts intriguing twin pairs of Weyl fermions, which are robustly stable against perturbations. Moreover, our effective model and symmetry analysis show that the twin pairs of Weyl fermions originate from a mirrored nodal ring pair. The nontrivial surface states and Fermi arcs of RbCr&#95;{4}O&#95;{8} are clearly visible, further revealing the topological features. This work strengthens the understanding of the parity analysis in exploring ferromagnetic topological materials with unconventional fermionic excitations.

Background and Objective: A systematic review was conducted to evaluate whether or not antiviral therapy with nucleotide/nucleoside analogs (NA) have survival benefit for patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after curative treatment., Methods: An electronic search of PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library was performed to identify comparative studies in which the adjuvant effects of NA for patients with HBV-related HCC after curative treatment were evaluated. Primary outcome included survival rate, and secondary outcomes included tumor recurrence rate and side effects. Review Manager 5.1.6 software was used for meta-analysis., Results: Twelve studies involving 6682 patients were included in our review. Meta-analysis results demonstrated that significant differences favoring the antiviral treatment groups were observed in 1-year survival rate (RR: 0.65, 95% CI: 0.53-0.79, P<0.0001), 3-year survival rate (RR: 0.58, 95% CI: 0.46-0.74, P<0.0001), and 5-year survival rate (RR: 0.56, 95% CI: 0.43-0.74, P<0.0001) compared with the control group. After NA was administered, recurrence was significantly reduced after one year (RR: 0.77, 95% CI: 0.64-0.93, P=0.006) and three years (RR: 0.81, 95% CI: 0.71-0.93, P=0.002) but not after five years (RR: 0.94, 95% CI: 0.76-1.16, P=0.55) compared with non-NA therapy., Conclusion: Current evidence showed that antiviral therapy with NA could improve survival and reduce early recurrence for patients with HBV-related HCC after curative treatment.
