Search

We investigate the production of axion-like particles (ALPs) in stellar cores, where they interact with electromagnetic fields and electrons, with typical masses between $\mathcal O(0.1)$ and $\mathcal O(10)$ keV. These low-energy ALPs are gravitationally trapped in the orbits of stars and subsequently decay into two photons that we detect as monochromatic X-ray lines. We propose to search for these gravitationally trapped ALPs in the Alpha Centauri binary system, our closest stellar neighbor, using sensitive X-ray detectors like Chandra and eROSITA. Our search for ALP decay signals in the energy range of 0.2 keV to 10 keV yielded null results, thus establishing the most stringent limits on ALP interactions to date. Specifically, if ALPs are mainly produced by Compton or bremsstrahlung processes (ALP-electron coupling $g_{aee}$ being significant), we have improved the limits on the ALP-photon coupling $g_{a\gamma\gamma}$ by two to three orders of magnitude, in ALP mass range between 0.2 keV to 5 keV, compared to previous measurements, including those from GW170817, SN 2023ixf, and other sources., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures

Context. We present multi-wavelength observations of the Galactic SNR HB9 and the H II region G159.2+3.3 apparently projected nearby, in order to study their properties and potential physical connections. Results. HB9 is bright in $\gamma$-rays, but the $\gamma$-ray morphology is centrally filled and most of it is not clearly associated with the surrounding molecular clouds. There is a weak apparent connection of HB9 to the IR bright enclosing shell of G159.2+3.3 in $\gamma$-ray. The diffuse Balmer line has almost identical morphology as the radio emission in G159.2+3.3, indicating they two are thermal in origin. Using medium-band high-resolution optical spectra from selected regions of the southeast (SE) shell of HB9 and G159.2+3.3, we found the radial velocity dispersion of HB9 along the slit is significantly higher than the FWHM of the lines. In contrast, these two values are both smaller and comparable to each other in G159.2+3.3. This indicates that the gas in HB9 may have additional global motion triggered by the SNR shock. The [N II] $\lambda$6583A/H$\alpha$ line ratio of both objects can be interpreted with photo-ionisation by hot stars or low velocity shocks, except for the post-shock region in the SE shell of HB9, where the elevated [N II]/H$\alpha$ line ratio suggests contribution from shock ionisation. The measured electron density from the [S II] 6716/6730 line ratio is significantly lower in the brighter G159.2+3.3 compared to the SE shell of HB9. Conclusions. Our density estimate suggests that G159.2+3.3, although appearing brighter and more compact, is likely located at a much larger distance than HB9, so the two objects have no physical connections, unless the shock compressed gas in HB9 has a significantly lower filling factor., Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables, accepted for publication in A&A

As the largest gravitationally bound objects in the Universe, galaxy clusters have provided the first piece of evidence for the presence of dark matter and may be suitable targets for indirect dark matter searches. Among various signals, the GeV-TeV $\gamma$-ray line has been taken as the smoking-gun signal of the dark matter annihilation/decay since no known astrophysical/physical process(es) could generate such a peculiar spectrum. With 15.5 years of Fermi-LAT P8R3 publicly available data, we search for the $\gamma$-ray line emission in the directions of a group of 13 nearby massive galaxy clusters with an unbinned likelihood analysis. A $\gamma$-ray line signal at $\sim 43.2$ GeV has a net TS value of $\approx 30$ if we only take into account the data in the directions of Virgo, Fornax and Ophiuchus clusters, three massive clusters with the highest J-factors expected to generate the dark matter annihilation signal. The signal still presents when the data of other 10 nearby massive clusters have also been included, though the TS value decreases to $\approx 21$ likely because of their lower signal-to-noise ratios. The absence of this signal in the inner Galaxy disfavors both the instrumental effect and the canonical dark matter annihilation interpretation, and a more sophisticated dark matter model or very peculiar astrophysical scenario might be needed. This $\gamma$-ray line signal, if intrinsic, could be unambiguously verified by the Very Large Area $\gamma$-ray Space Telescope in its first two years of performance., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures, 1 table. This study reanalyzes the detection prospects of dark matter (DM) annihilation signals in the Galactic Center, focusing on velocity-dependent dynamics within a spike density near the supermassive black hole (Sgr~A$^{\star}$). We investigate three annihilation processes -- $p$-wave, resonance, and forbidden annihilation -- under semi-relativistic velocities, leveraging gamma-ray data from Fermi and DAMPE telescopes. Our analysis integrates a fermionic DM model with an electroweak axion-like particle (ALP) portal, exploring annihilation into two or four photons. Employing a comprehensive six-dimensional integration, we precisely calculate DM-induced gamma-ray fluxes near Sgr~A$^{\star}$, incorporating velocity and positional dependencies in the annihilation cross-section and photon yield spectra. Our findings highlight scenarios of resonance and forbidden annihilation, where the larger ALP-DM-DM coupling constant $C_{a\chi\chi}$ can affect spike density, potentially yielding detectable gamma-ray line spectra within Fermi and DAMPE energy resolution. We set upper limits for $C_{a\chi\chi}$ across these scenarios, offering insights into the detectability and spectral characteristics of DM annihilation signals from the Galactic Center., Comment: 24 pages, 13 figures

Axions and axion-like particles (ALPs) appear in many extensions of the Standard Model and are being investigated as promising dark matter (DM) candidates. One viable methodology for their detection involves the investigation of the line-like radio emissions from the dwarf spheroidal galaxy, potentially originating from the radiative decay of ALPs or the conversion of ALPs in the magnetic field. In this work, we constrain the properties of ALPs using the 2-hour radio observation of Coma Berenices through the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). The $\rm 95\%$ upper limits of the ALP-photon coupling are calculated for the ALP decay and conversion scenarios, respectively. Note that the sensitive ALP masses for FAST range from $\sim \mu \rm eV$ to tens of $\mu \rm eV$, where ALP can explain the DM abundance naturally. However, our limits are weaker than those of the CAST helioscope, which can provide an independent and complementary check on the ALP non-detection for ground experiments. Furthermore, we evaluate the expected sensitivity on the ALP of FAST with its full designed bandwidth (70 $\rm MHz$ - 3 $\rm GHz$) for 100 hours of observation time. Our results indicate that, even with the exceptional sensitivity of the FAST, it is challenging to surpass the existing experimental constraints on ALP DM using radio observation of dSphs, unless the possible enhancements of ALP signals by compact stars in dSphs are considered., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in PLB

There are two classes of gamma-ray transients with a duration shorter than 2 seconds. One consists of cosmic short Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) taking place in the deep universe via the neutron star mergers, and the other is the magnetar giant flares (GFs) with energies of $\sim 10^{44}-10^{46}$ erg from ``nearby" galaxies. Though the magnetar GFs and the short GRBs have rather similar temporal and spectral properties, their energies ($E_{\rm \gamma,iso}$) are different by quite a few orders of magnitude and hence can be distinguished supposing the host galaxies have been robustly identified. The newly observed GRB 231115A has been widely discussed as a new GF event for its high probability of being associated with M82. Here we conduct a detailed analysis of its prompt emission observed by Fermi-GBM, and compare the parameters with existing observations. The prompt gamma-ray radiation properties of GRB 231115A, if associated with M82, nicely follow the $E_{\rm p,z}-E_{\gamma,\rm iso}$ relation of the GFs, where $E_{\rm p,z}$ is the peak energy of the gamma-ray spectrum after the redshift ($z$) correction. To be a short GRB, the reshift needs to be $\sim 1$. Though such a chance is low, the available X-ray/GeV observation upper limits are not stringent enough to further rule out this possibility. The Galactic Center Excess (GCE), one of the most remarkable discoveries by Fermi-LAT, has prompted extensive exploration over the past decade, often attributed to dark matter or millisecond pulsars. This work proposes a novel interpretation on the origin of the GCE, focusing on the observed spectral shape. Protons are accelerated at the Galactic center and collide with the neutron cluster on the surface of the non-rotating neutron stars. Due to the gluon condensation in nucleons, these collisions produce a large number of mesons, which have reached to the saturation state and subsequently generate the broken power law in the gamma ray spectra. We explained the spectral shape of GCE using the gluon condensation and an assumption of existing the non-rotating neutron stars at the Galactic center. This example of the gluon condensation mechanism not only expands the applications of the hadronic scenario in the cosmic gamma ray spectra but also provides a new evidence of the gluon condensation., Comment: 19 pages, 3 figures, 1 table; Accepted by PRD

Ultralight dark matter (ULDM) is proposed as a theoretical candidate of dark matter particles with masses of approximately $10^{-22}$ eV. The interactions between ULDM particles and standard model particles would cause variations in pulse arrival times of millisecond pulsars, which means that the pulsar timing array (PTA) can be used to indirectly detect ULDM. In this letter, we use the gamma-ray PTA composed of 29 millisecond pulsars observed by the Fermi Large Area Telescope (Fermi-LAT) to test four ULDM effects, including gravitational effects for generalized ULDM with different Spin-0/1, the fifth-force coupling effect of dark photon, and the modified gravitational effect of the Spin-2 ULDM. The gamma-ray pulsar timing is not affected by the ionized interstellar medium and suffers relatively simple noises, unlike that of the radio band. Our work is the first time that the gamma-ray PTA has been used to search for the ULDM. No significant signals of ULDM are found based on the Fermi-LAT PTA for all four kinds of ULDM models. GRB 230307A is one of the brightest gamma-ray bursts detected so far. With the excellent observation of GRB 230307A by Fermi-GBM, we can reveal the details of prompt emission evolution. As found in high-time-resolution spectral analysis, the early low-energy spectral indices ($\alpha$) of this burst exceed the limit of synchrotron radiation ($\alpha=-2/3$), and gradually decreases with the energy flux ($F$). A tight $E_{\rm p}\propto F^{0.54}$ correlation anyhow holds within the whole duration of the burst, where $E_{\rm p}$ is the spectral peak energy. Such evolution pattern of $\alpha$ and $E_{\rm p}$ with intensity is called ``double tracking". For the $\alpha-F$ relation, we find a log Bayes factor $\sim$ 210 in favor of a smoothly broken power-law function over a linear function in log-linear space. We call this particular $\alpha-F$ relation as broken ``$\alpha$-intensity", and interpret it as the evolution of the ratio of thermal and non-thermal components, which is also the evolution of the photosphere. GRB 230307A with a duration of $\sim 35~\rm s$, if indeed at a redshift of $z=0.065$, is likely a neutron star merger event (i.e., it is intrinsically ``short"). Intriguingly, different from GRB 060614 and GRB 211211A, this long event is not composed of a hard spike followed by a soft tail, suggesting that the properties of the prompt emission light curves are not a good tracer of the astrophysical origins of the bursts. New long-lived particles produced at the colliders may escape from conventional particle detectors. Using satellites or ground telescopes, we can detect the photons generated from the annihilation of the star-captured dark matter into a pair of long-lived particles. When the propagation length of these long-lived particles surpasses the interplanetary distance between the Sun and Jupiter, it becomes unfeasible to detect such dark matter signals originating from the Sun or Jupiter on Earth. Our analysis of the dark matter-induced photons produced by prompt radiation, inverse Compton scattering, and synchrotron radiation mechanisms reveals that a decay length of about $10^{-3}$ pc for long-lived particles is required for maximum detectability. We investigate the parameters that allow the long-lived particle's lifetime to be consistent with Big Bang nucleosynthesis while also allowing it to escape the confines of our solar system. The Sirius system is proposed as a promising target for the indirect detection of such long-lived particles. Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory has detected $0.2-13$ TeV emission of GRB 221009A within 2000 s since the trigger. Here we report the detection of a 400 GeV photon, without accompanying prominent low-energy emission, by Fermi Large Area Telescope in this direction with a 0.4 days' delay. Given an intergalactic magnetic field strength of about $4 \times 10^{-17}$ G, which is comparable to limits from TeV blazars, the delayed 400 GeV photon can be explained as the cascade emission of about 10 TeV gamma rays. We estimate the probabilities of the cascade emission that can result in one detectable photon beyond 100 GeV by Fermi Large Area Telescope within $0.3-1$ days is about 2$\%$ whereas it is about 20.5$\%$ within $0.3-250$ days. For the newly discovered $W$-boson mass anomaly, one of the simplest dark matter (DM) models that can account for the anomaly without violating other astrophysical/experimental constraints is the inert two Higgs doublet model, in which the DM mass ($m_{S}$) is found to be within $\sim 54-74$ GeV. In this model, the annihilation of DM via $SS\to b\bar{b}$ and $SS\to WW^{*}$ would produce antiprotons and gamma rays, and may account for the excesses identified previously in both particles. Motivated by this, we re-analyze the AMS-02 antiproton and Fermi-LAT Galactic center gamma-ray data. For the antiproton analysis, the novel treatment is the inclusion of the charge-sign-dependent three-dimensional solar modulation model as constrained by the time-dependent proton data. We find that the excess of antiprotons is more distinct than previous results based on the force-field solar modulation model. The interpretation of this excess as the annihilation of $SS\to WW^{*}$ ($SS\to b\bar{b}$) requires a DM mass of $\sim 40-80$ ($40-60$) GeV and a velocity-averaged cross section of $O(10^{-26})~{\rm cm^3~s^{-1}}$. As for the $\gamma$-ray data analysis, besides adopting the widely-used spatial template fitting, we employ an orthogonal approach with a data-driven spectral template analysis. The fitting to the GeV $\gamma$-ray excess yields DM model parameters overlapped with those to fit the antiproton excess via the $WW^{*}$ channel. The consistency of the DM particle properties required to account for the $W$-boson mass anomaly, the GeV antiproton excess, and the GeV $\gamma$-ray excess suggest a common origin of them., Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures, accepted by PRL

The DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) is well suitable for searching for monochromatic and sharp $\gamma$-ray structures in the GeV$-$TeV range thanks to its unprecedented high energy resolution. In this work, we search for $\gamma$-ray line structures using five years of DAMPE data. To improve the sensitivity, we develop two types of dedicated data sets (including the BgoOnly data which is the first time to be used in the data analysis for the calorimeter-based gamma-ray observatories) and adopt the signal-to-noise ratio optimized regions of interest (ROIs) for different DM density profiles. No line signals or candidates are found between 10 and 300 GeV in the Galaxy. The constraints on the velocity-averaged cross section for $\chi\chi \to \gamma\gamma$ and the decay lifetime for $\chi \to \gamma\nu$, both at 95% confidence level, have been calculated and the systematic uncertainties have been taken into account. Comparing to the previous Fermi-LAT results, though DAMPE has an acceptance smaller by a factor of $\sim 10$, similar constraints on the DM parameters are achieved and below 100 GeV the lower limits on the decay lifetime are even stronger by a factor of a few. The nature of dark matter remains obscure in spite of decades of experimental efforts. The mass of dark matter candidates can span a wide range, and its coupling with the Standard Model sector remains uncertain. All these unknowns make the etection of dark matter extremely challenging. Ultralight dark matter, with $m \sim10^{-22}$ eV, is proposed to reconcile the disagreements between observations and predictions from simulations of small-scale structures in the cold dark matter paradigm, while remaining consistent with other observations. Because of its large de Broglie wavelength and large local occupation number within galaxies, ultralight dark matter behaves like a coherently oscillating background field with an oscillating frequency dependent on its mass. If the dark matter particle is a spin-1 dark photon, such as the $U(1)_B$ or $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson, it can induce an external oscillating force and lead to displacements of test masses. Such an effect would be observable in the form of periodic variations in the arrival times of radio pulses from highly stable millisecond pulsars. In this study, we search for evidence of ultralight dark photon dark matter (DPDM) using 14-year high-precision observations of 26 pulsars collected with the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array. While no statistically significant signal is found, we place constraints on coupling constants for the $U(1)_B$ and $U(1)_{B-L}$ DPDM. Compared with other experiments, the limits on the dimensionless coupling constant $\epsilon$ achieved in our study are improved by up to two orders of magnitude when the dark photon mass is smaller than $3\times10^{-22}$~eV ($10^{-22}$~eV) for the $U(1)_{B}$ ($U(1)_{B-L}$) scenario., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures

Several groups have reported a possible excess of primary electrons at high energies with the joint fit of the positron fraction and total electron/positron spectra. With the latest release of high-precision electron/positron spectra measured by AMS-02, we further confirm this excess by fitting $\Delta\Phi$ $\rm(i.e., \Phi_{e^-}-\Phi_{e^+})$ data in this work. Then we investigate the contribution of a single nearby supernova remnant to the primary electron excess and find that Monogem can reasonably account for this excess. Moreover, we predict that the electron spectrum may harden again at a few TeVs due to Vela's contribution. DAMPE, which can accurately measure electrons at TeV scale, is expected to provide the robust test of this new spectral feature in the near future. Finally, we fit the proton spectrum data of DAMPE with Monogem or Loop I. We find that both the primary electron excess and the proton spectral bump could be mainly generated by Monogem., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

Recently, the evidence for gamma-ray emission has been found in the $Fermi$-LAT observation for the outer halo of Andromeda galaxy (M31). The dark matter (DM) annihilation offers a possible explanation on the gamma-ray radiation. In this work, we focus on the dark matter annihilation within minispikes around intermediate-mass black holes (IMBHs) with masses ranging from $100~\mathrm{M_\odot}$ to $10^6~\mathrm{M_\odot}$. When the thermal annihilation relic cross section $\left\langle \sigma v \right\rangle = 3 \times 10^{-26}~\mathrm {cm} ^{3}\;\mathrm {s} ^{-1}$ is adopted, we conduct an investigation on the population of IMBHs in the spherical halo area of M31. We find that there could be more than 65 IMBHs with masses of $ 100~ \mathrm{M_\odot}$ surrounded by the DM minispikes as the remnants of Population III stars in the M31 spherical halo, and it is almost impossible for the existence of minspikes around IMBHs with masses above $10^4~ \mathrm{M_\odot}$ which could be formed by the collapse of primordial cold gas, for both dark matter annihilation channels $b\bar{b}$ and $\tau^{+}\tau^{-}$. Sharp spectral structures in the $\gamma$-ray band are an important dark matter (DM) signature. Previously, a tentative line feature at $\sim 43~{\rm GeV}$ is reported in 16 nearby galaxy clusters (GCls) with 7.1 years of Fermi-LAT data, whose TS value is $\sim 16.7$. In this work, we search for line signals and box-shaped structures using the stacked data from those 16 GCls with 11.4-yr P8R3 data. There is still a hint at $\sim {42~\rm GeV}$, dominated by the radiation of Virgo and Ophiuchus clusters. Though the TS value was high up to 21.2 in October 2016, currently it has dropped to 13.1. Moreover, the TS value at $\sim {42~\rm GeV}$ decreases to 2.4 when the EDISP2 data are excluded from the analysis. Consequently, we do not find any statistically significant line-like signal and then set up the 95% confidence level upper limits on the thermally averaged cross section of DM annihilating into double photons. The same line search has been carried out for an alternative GCl sample from the Two Micron All-Sky Survey but no any evidence has been found. We also search for box-shaped features in those 16 baseline GCls. The conversion between photons and axionlike particles (ALPs) in the Milky Way magnetic field could result in the detectable oscillation phenomena in $\gamma$-ray spectra of Galactic sources. In this work, the GeV (Fermi-LAT) and TeV (MAGIC/VERITAS/H.E.S.S.) data of three bright supernova remnants (SNRs, ie. IC443, W51C and W49B) have been adopted together to search such the oscillation effect. Different from our previous analysis of the sole Fermi-LAT data of IC443, we do not find any reliable signal for the photon-ALP oscillation in the joint broadband spectrum of each SNR. The reason for the inconsistence is that in this work we use the latest revision (P8R3) of Fermi-LAT data, updated diffuse emission templates and the new version of the source catalog (4FGL), which lead to some modification of the GeV spectrum of IC443. Then we set constraints on ALP parameters based on the combined analysis of all the three sources. Though these constraints are somewhat weaker than limits from the CAST experiment and globular clusters, they are supportive of and complementary to these other results., Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures, Accepted into Physical Review D

In order to search for the line-like signals in the Fermi-LAT data, we have analyzed totally 49152 regions of interest (ROIs) that cover the whole sky. No ROI displays a line signal with test statistic (TS) value above 25, while for 50 ROIs weak line-like excesses with ${\rm TS}>16$ are presented. The intrinsic significances of these potential signals are further reduced by the large trial factor introduced in such kind of analysis. For the largest TS value of 24.3 derived in our analysis, the corresponding global significance is only $0.54\sigma$. We thus do not find any significant line-like signal and set up constraints on the cross section of dark matter annihilating to gamma-ray lines, $\left<\sigma{v}\right>_{\gamma\gamma}$., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, accepted by PRD

In this work, we search for $\gamma$-ray emission from the directions of some nearby Milky Way dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs) and candidates with the publicly-available Pass 8 data of Fermi-LAT. Our sample includes 12 sources with the distances $<50$ kpc. Very weak $\gamma$-ray excesses ($\sim 2\sigma$) are found in some dSphs/candidates, consistent with that reported in the previous literature. Intriguingly, the peak test statistic (TS) value of the weak emission from the direction of Reticulum II rises continually. If interpreted as dark matter (DM) annihilation, the peak TS value is 13.5 for the annihilation channel of $\chi\chi \rightarrow \tau^{+}\tau^{-}$ and the DM mass of $m_\chi \sim 16$ GeV. The combination of all these nearby sources yields a more significant (with local significance $> 4\sigma$) $\gamma$-ray signal., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in PRD

Axion-like particles (ALPs) can oscillate to photons and vice versa in electromagnetic fields. The photon-ALP oscillation provides an attractive solution to the apparent transparency of the Universe to TeV photons. The allowed parameter regions for the ALP mass $m_{\rm a}\leq 10^{-7}$ eV have been tightly constrained by the Fermi-LAT and H.E.S.S observations of some extragalactic sources. In this work we show for the first time that the H.E.S.S observations of some TeV sources in the Galactic plane exclude the highest ALP mass region (i.e., $m_{\rm a}\sim {\rm a ~few\times 10^{-7}}$ eV) that accounts for the TeV transparency of the Universe. Axionlike-particles (ALPs) are one promising type of dark matter candidate particle that may generate detectable effects on $\gamma$-ray spectra other than the canonical weakly interacting massive particles. In this work we search for such oscillation effects in the spectra of supernova remnants caused by the photon-ALP conversion, using the Fermi Large Area Telescope data. Three bright supernova remnants, IC443, W44, and W51C, are analyzed. The inclusion of photon-ALP oscillations yields an improved fit to the $\gamma$-ray spectrum of IC443, which gives a statistical significance of $4.2\sigma$ in favor of such spectral oscillation. However, the best-fit parameters of ALPs ($m_{a}=6.6\,{\rm neV}$, $g_{a\gamma}=13.4 \times 10^{-11}\,{\rm GeV}^{-1}$) are in tension with the upper bound ($g_{a\gamma}< 6.6 \times 10^{-11}\,{\rm GeV}^{-1}$) set by the CAST experiment. It is difficult to explain the results using the systematic uncertainties of the flux measurements. We speculate that the "irregularity" displayed in the spectrum of IC443 may be due to the superposition of the emission from different parts of the remnant.

Recently, gamma-ray emission in the direction of Coma, with a TS value of $\sim 40$, has been reported. In this work we will discuss the possibility of such a residual emission coming from dark matter annihilation. Our results show that the gamma-ray emission within the Coma region is also spatially correlated to the mass distribution derived from weak gravitational lensing measurements very well. However the dark matter models are not supported by the spectral analysis results and constraints by observations of other targets. High-redshift blazars are one of the most powerful monsters in the universe and $\gamma$-ray variability carries crucial information of their relativistic jets. In this work we present results of the first systematical temporal analysis of {\it Fermi}-LAT data of all known seven $\gamma$-ray blazars beyond redshift 3. Significant long-term $\gamma$-ray variability is found from five sources in monthly $\gamma$-ray light curves, in which three of them are reported for the first time. Furthermore, intraday $\gamma$-ray variations are detected from NVSS J053954$-$283956 and NVSS J080518$+$614423. Doubling variability timescale of the former source is limited as short as $\lesssim$ 1 hour (at the source frame). Together with variability amplitude over one order of magnitude, NVSS J053954$-$283956 is the most distant $\gamma$-ray flaring blazar so far. Meanwhile, intraday optical variability of NVSS J163547$+$362930 is found based on archival PTF/iPTF light curve. Benefited from multiwavelength activity of these sources, constraints of their Doppler factors as well as locations of $\gamma$-ray radiation region and indications for the SDSS high redshift jetted active galactic nuclei deficit are discussed., Comment: 25 pages, 8 figures, 2 tables, ApJ in press

In this work, we simulate a set of realizations of local volume dark matter subhalo population based on the distributions and relations derived from Via Lactea II N-body simulation. We calculate the J-factors of these subhalos, and find that the low mass subhalos contribute a lot to the total J-factors. Combining with 91 months of the Fermi LAT observation, we constrain on the cross section of dark matter annihilating directly to two gamma rays. This is the first work combining numerical simulation results and Fermi LAT observations to constrain dark matter cross section to gamma-ray line with subhalo population. Though the constraints derived from subhalo population are weaker than those from Fermi LAT observation of the Galactic center, they are supports of and complementary to these other results., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Milky Way-like galaxies are predicted to host a very large number of dark matter subhalos. Some massive and nearby subhalos could generate detectable gamma-rays, appearing as unidentified, spatially-extended and stable gamma-ray sources. We search for such sources in the third Fermi Large Area Telescope source List (3FGL) and report the identification of a new candidate, 3FGL J1924.8-1034. With the Fermi-LAT Pass 8 data, we find that 3FGL J1924.8-1034 is spatially-extended at a high confidence level of $5.4\sigma$, with a best-fit extension radius of $\sim0.15^{\circ}$. No significant variability has been found and its gamma-ray spectrum is well fitted by the dark matter annihilation into $b\bar{b}$ with a mass of $\sim 43$ GeV. All these facts make 3FGL J1924.8-1034 a possible dark matter subhalo candidate. However, due to the limited angular resolution, the possibility of that the spatial extension of 3FGL J1924.8-1034 is caused by the contamination from the other un-resolved point source can not be ruled out., Comment: 10 pages including 5 figures and 1 table, accepted for publication in Phys. With 91 months of the publicly available Fermi-LAT Pass 8 data, we analyze the gamma-ray emission from the Milky Way satellites to search for potential line signals due to the annihilation of dark matter particles into double photons. The searched targets include a sample of dwarf spheroidal galaxies, the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). No significant line emission has been found neither in the stacked dwarf galaxy sample nor in the direction of LMC/SMC. The corresponding upper limits on the cross section of DM annihilation into two photons are derived. Compared with results of previous gamma-ray line searches with the Pass 7 data, the current constraints on the line emission from dwarf spheroidal galaxies has been significantly improved in a wide energy range. With the rapid increase of the sample of dwarf spheroidal galaxies (candidates), we expect that the sensitivity of gamma ray line searches will be significantly improved in the near future., Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures
