2. Effects of Dietary Supplementation of Stimbiotics to Sows on Lactation Performance, Immune Function, and Anti-Inflammatory and Antioxidant Capacities during Late Gestation and Lactation

Stimbiotic supplementation may provide an innovative feed additive solution to accelerate the proliferation of beneficial fiber-degrading bacteria in the distal intestine and the utilization of dietary fiber. Optimal utilization of dietary fiber has multiple benefits for gut health and nutrient utilization. This study was conducted to evaluate the late gestation and lactation performance, the plasma, colostrum, and milk immunoglobulin (IgA, IgG, and IgM) concentrations, and the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant biomarkers in plasma of sows fed with or without a stimbiotic during the late gestation and lactation phase. A total of 40 sows were allocated to two treatment groups: control (CT) with no supplementation or 100 mg/kg stimbiotic (VP), with 20 sows per treatment. Sows were fed the treatment diets from d 85 of gestation to d 28 of lactation. In the results, the average daily weight gain of piglets during lactation was greater from sows fed in the VP group compared to that in the CT group (p < 0.05). The plasma concentrations of IgM at farrowing and IgG at weaning of the sows fed the diet with the stimbiotic supplementation were much higher than those in the CT sows (p < 0.05), respectively. In addition, the dietary stimbiotic increased the concentrations of IgM in the colostrum and of IgA and IgM in the milk at d 14 of lactation (p < 0.05). Plasma concentrations of malondialdehyde (MDA) on d 0 and d 28 of lactation tended to be lower in sows fed the VP diets compared with those of the sows fed the CT diets. Thus, our study indicated that stimbiotic supplementation could improve the daily weight gain of piglets and the immune function of sows in lactation.

3. Effects of Spermidine on Cell Proliferation, Migration, and Inflammatory Response in Porcine Enterocytes

Background: Polyamines have been demonstrated to be beneficial to porcine intestinal development. Our previous study showed that putrescine mitigates intestinal atrophy in weanling piglets and suppresses inflammatory response in porcine intestinal epithelial cells, it is still unknown the role of spermidine in mediating putrescine function. Objective: The current study aimed to investigate the effect of spermidine on the proliferation, migration, and inflammatory response in porcine intestinal epithelial cells (IPEC-J2 cell line). Methods: The effects of spermidine on proliferation and migration of IPEC-J2 cells were measured. Difluoromethyl ornithine (DFMO) and diethylglyoxal bis (guanylhydrazone) (DEGBG) were used to block the production of putrescine and spermidine, respectively. A cell inflammation model was established with lipopolysaccharides (LPS) stimulation. Gene expression and protein abundance were determined by real-time quantitative PCR and western blotting, respectively. Result: Spermidine significantly enhanced cell proliferation in DFMO (or/and) DEGBG treated IPEC-J2 cells (p < 0.05). Pretreatment with putrescine restored cell growth inhibited by DFMO but did not prevent the decrease in cell proliferation caused by DEGBG (p > 0.05). Similarly, spermidine but not putrescine significantly elevated the rate of migration in DEGBG treated IPEC-J2 cells (p < 0.05). Spermidine deprivation by DEGBG dramatically enhanced mRNA abundance of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-8, IL-6, and TNF-α (p < 0.05), and the addition of spermidine attenuated excessive expression of those inflammatory pro-inflammatory cytokines, moreover, spermidine but not putrescine suppressed the phosphorylation of NF-κB induced by DEGBG. Spermidine supplementation also significantly suppressed LPS-induced the expression of TNF-α. Conclusions: The present study highlights a novel insight that putrescine may be converted into spermidine to modulate cell proliferation, migration, and inflammatory response on porcine enterocytes.

This letter proposes a multichannel optical fiber spectral and imaging system, aiming at evaluating the pixel-level optical properties of high definition display efficiently and precisely. The system makes use of 16-channel optical fibers to form a detecting array so that 16 points of a display under test can be measured cyclically by multiplexer and spectrometer and monitored by camera simultaneously. The optical path is reversible for both the light source and the laser positioning, and adjustable along a rail driven by a motor to enable the system to work in either magnification mode or reduction mode. The feasibility and accuracy of the system are verified by comparative experiments of standard light source, LED display, and OLED display, identifying both merits of a single-spot spectroradiometer and an imaging photometer/colorimeter and even more functions like pitch size and color gamut.

Postembolization syndrome (PES) is the most common complication in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who had undergone transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE). PES was defined as fever, nausea and/or vomiting, and abdominal pain and these symptoms develop within 1-3 days after TACE. However, few studies have explored the factors influencing PES in patients with TACE for the first time.We explored the factors influencing PES in patients with HCC undergoing TACE for the first time.The present study was a hospital-based study conducted in the tertiary care hospital of Guangzhou with a retrospective study design.In this single-center retrospective study, a total of 242 patients with HCC were included in the first TACE program between November 1, 2018 and November 31, 2019.T-test and Chi-square test revealed the factors affecting the occurrence of PES. Correlation analysis (Spearman) explored the relationship between these factors and PES. Binary logistics analyzed the predictive factors of PES.The probability of PES in patients with HCC undergoing TACE for the first time was 55.45%. Types of embolic agents (r = 0.296), types of microspheres (r = 0.510), number of microspheres (r = 0.130), maximum diameter of microspheres used (r = 0.429), type of drug (r = 0.406), and drug loading (r = 0.433) were positively correlated with PES (P0.05). Serum albumin was negatively correlated with PES (P = 0.008, r = -0.170). Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that drug loading microspheres (odds ratio [OR] = 0.075, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.031-0.180) and serum albumin (OR = 0.182, 95% CI = 0.068-0.487) were the protective factors influencing PES, while drug loading was the risk factor of PES (OR = 1.407, 95% CI = 1.144-1.173).Drug loading microspheres, serum albumin, and drug loading were the predictors of PES after the first TACE.

To improve the electrochemical performance of lithium sulfur batteries, a conductive Lewis base matrix, nitrogen doped graphene (NG), was prepared here through a facile strategy of annealing a polypyrrole/reduced graphene oxide composite. The obtained NG was demonstrated with enriched pyridinic-N doping and was employed as the matrix of sulfur cathode with ultra-high rates, reversible capacity and high coulombic efficiency. The improved performance can be attributed to the high conductivity of the NG and the enhanced adsorption energy of Li 2 S n (n=4-8) on the NG surface. The NG can act not only as an electronic conductive network but also as a Lewis base “catalyst” matrix that promotes the higher Li 2 S n to be further oxidized completely to S 8 as demonstrated in the cyclic voltammetry curve, which can thus significantly improve the sulfur utilization and cyclic stability even at a high sulfur loading of 75% (w/w) in the S@NG composite.

10. Comparison of methodologies for seismic fragility analysis of unreinforced masonry buildings considering epistemic uncertainty

The first-order second-moment (FOSM), Latin hypercube sampling (LHS), and Monte Carlo simulation (MC) methods were applied to perform seismic fragility analyses of unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings, incorporating incremental dynamic analysis (IDA). The epistemic uncertainty caused by parameter uncertainty was also considered by all three methods, which therefore obtained more accurate results compared with the conventional IDA analysis that only considers the aleatory uncertainty caused by the record-to-record variability. Nine structural parameters were selected as the epistemic uncertainty inputs, and the URM buildings were modeled by the equivalent frame models in OpenSees. The analysis results indicated that the epistemic uncertainty was non-negligible because of the high dispersion of the structural parameters and high nonlinearity of the seismic responses of the URM buildings. At the same time, the epistemic uncertainty values derived by LHS-IDA and MC-IDA were slightly larger than that derived by FOSM-IDA as a result of the consideration of the nonlinear response. In the final comparison, the LHS-IDA was proven to be the most efficient and accurate way to consider the influence of epistemic uncertainty.

Most of the compressed sensing for multi-view videos always works on non-adaptive linear projections, and the ratio of compressive sampling is usually determined empirically. Consequently, the quality of reconstruction frames is always affected and limited. The paper is therefore proposed a method on the derivation of adaptive ratio for the compressive sensing of video frame. First of all, the block-based compressed sensing (BCS) with conventional selection for compressive measurements was reviewed. Then an estimation method for the sparsity of multi-view video frames was proposed with the two dimensional sparse transform (2DST). With an energy threshold determined beforehand, the DST coefficients were normalized and sorted by the descending order, and the sparsity of the multi-view video can be achieved by calculating the proportion of dominant coefficients. And finally, the simulation result shows that, the method can estimate the sparsity of a video frame effectively, and provides a basis for the selection of compressive measurement. The result also shows that the method can ensure the reconstruction quality of multi-view videos.

The micrographs and optical properties of Al-doped ZnO (AZO) films deposited by radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering are presented in this paper. The AZO films termed as films I, II and III were sputtered on glass substrates heating at 300C, 400C and 500C, respectively. The micrographs, crystal structures and optical properties of AZO thin films were analyzed by using scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) images, X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern, optical transmission and reflection spectra ranging from 350 to 1000 nm. As the substrate temperature increases to 500C, the film III exhibits a better flatness surface and a larger grain size of ~25nm with a stronger c-axis orientation. The film II has a high transmittance of greater than 92% in the visible light region. We also show that the films II and III have significant red-shift band gap ~3.00 and ~3.13eV, respectively, in comparison with that of the film I (3.31eV). This might be due to the increasing doped Al atoms which do not activate due to segregation at the grain boundaries.

IntroductionSemaglutide shows significant performance on weight reduction in several clinical trials. However, it is not clear what kind of administration frequency or dosage will achieve better effects. This study aims to explore the different therapeutic effect of semaglutide on weight control under the diverse administration circumstances.MethodsThe PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and the Clinical Trials.gov were searched from inception until 6 June, 2022 to include randomized controlled trials evaluating the Efficacy and safety of subcutaneous semaglutide in overweight or obese adults. Random effects or fixed effects model was conducted based on the heterogeneity among trials. Subgroup analysis was performed to identify the detailed effects under different intervention situations.Results and discussionOur study included 13 RCTs involving 5,838 participants with 3,794 ones in semaglutide group and 2,044 in placebo group. Semaglutide was associated with a significant reduction on weight loss related outcomes, including the absolute value of weight loss (WMD -8·97, 95% CI -10·73 to -7·21), percentage of weight loss (WMD -10·00, 95% CI -11·99 to -8·00), body mass index (WMD-3·19, 95% CI -4·02 to -2·37) and waist circumference (WMD -7·21,95% CI -8·87 to -5·56). Auxin regulates cell division and elongation of the primordial cells through its concentration and then shaped the plant architecture. Cell division and elongation form the internode of soybean and result in different plant heights and lodging resistance. Yet the mechanisms behind are unclear in soybean. To elucidate the mechanism of the concentration difference of auxin related to stem development in soybean, samples of apical shoot, elongation zone, and mature zone from the developing stems of soybean seedlings, Charleston, were harvested and measured for auxin concentration distributions and metabolites to identify the common underlying mechanisms responsible for concentration difference of auxin. Distribution of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), indole-3-butyric acid (IBA), and methylindole-3-acetic acid (Me-IAA) were determined and auxin concentration distributions were found to have a complex regulation mechanism. The concentrations of IAA and Me-IAA in apical shoot were significantly different between elongation zone and mature zone resulting in an IAA gradient. Tryptophan dependent pathway from tryptamine directly to IAA or through indole-3-acetonitrile to IAA and from indole-3-propionic acid (IPA) to IAA were three primary IAA synthesis pathways. Moreover, some plant metabolites from flavonoid and phenylpropanoid synthesis pathways showed similar or reverse gradient and should involve in auxin homeostasis and concentration difference. All the data give the first insight in the concentration difference and homeostasis of auxin in soybean seedlings and facilitate a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanism of stem development and growth. The gathered information also helps to elucidate how plant height is formed in soybean and what strategy should be adopted to regulate the lodging resistance in soybean.

15. Reliability of Glutamate Quantification in Human Nucleus Accumbens Using Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy at a 70-cm Wide-Bore Clinical 3T MRI System

The human nucleus accumbens is a challenging region to study using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) on a 70-cm wide-bore clinical 3T MRI system. The aim of this study was to investigate the reliability for quantitative measurement of glutamate concentration in the nucleus accumbens using a 70-cm wide-bore clinical 3T MRI. 1H-MRS of the nucleus accumbens was acquired using the Point-Resolved Spectroscopic Sequence (PRESS) with echo time of 40 ms from 10 healthy volunteers (5 female; age range: 18–30 years) on two separate visits (a baseline, and 1-month time point). The Java-based Magnetic Resonance User Interface (jMRUI) software package was used to quantitatively measure the absolute metabolite concentrations. The test-retest reliability and reproducibility were assessed using intraclass correlations coefficients (ICC), and coefficients of variation (CV). Glutamate concentrations were similar across visits (P = 0.832). Reproducibility measures for all metabolites were good with CV ranging from 7.8 to 14.0%. The ICC values of all metabolites for the intra-class measures were excellent (ICC > 0.8), except that the reliability for Glx (glutamate + glutamine) was good (ICC = 0.768). Pearson correlations for all metabolites were all highly significant (r = 0.636–0.788, P < 0.05). In conclusion, the short-echo-time PRESS can reliably obtain high quality glutamate spectrum from a ~3.4 cm3 voxel of the nucleus accumbens using a 70-cm wide-bore clinical 3T MRI.

Most of the traditional multi-label classification algorithms use supervised learning,but in real life,there are many unlabeled data.Manual tagging of all required data is costly.Semi-supervised learning algorithms can work with a large amount of unlabeled data and labeled data,so they have received more attention from people.For the first time,multi-label classification algorithms are explained from the perspective of supervised learning and semi-supervised learning,and application fields of multi-label classification algorithms are comprehensively summarized.Among them,supervised learning algorithms of label non-correlation and label correlation are described in terms of decision trees,Bayesian,support vector machines,neural networks,and ensemble,semi-supervised learning algorithms are summarized from the perspectives of batch and online learning.The real-world application areas are introduced from the perspectives of image classification,text classification and other fields.Secondly,this paper briefly introduces evaluation metrics of multi-label.Finally,research directions of complex concept drift under semi-supervised learning,feature selection,complex correlation of labels and class imbalance are given.
