The present paper studies the main characteristics of digital radio relays used by the largest mobile network operator (MNO) in Romania in order to develop a network supporting the newest technologies available on the market. The main contribution is the design of a high capacity Ethernet radio relay network in an area around Bucharest, Romania. The location was chosen on the criterion that it is a high-density traffic area where high-capacity radio links are in operation and use the newest digital radio relay features that are explained in this paper: high modulation scheme, adaptive radio modulation, radio traffic aggregation and cross-polarization interference cancellation. The network contains PDH and SDH links to transport the entire traffic in the area. We analyse several links between different sites that present particularities in the mobile operator's network. Finally, the most suitable parameters are chosen and the designed radio relay network is presented and analysed. It has been implemented in the MNO's network since 2015.

[EN] This Project is carried out with the idea of explaining the design, simulation and integration procedure of a radiolink among two sites requested by a telecommunications company. For this, it will be necessary to do a selection of the necessary equipment and antennas to adapt it to the radiolink conditions. Once selected, a study is carried out in order to check the compliance of the design parameters such as Fading Margin, interferences, availability, etc. These studies will be carried out using a radiolink simulation software called Iqlink, which function will be detailed. It will also be important to do a previous verification of the opening clearance to check if it is viable at a certain frecuency. This will also be possible using Iqlink. Once the final design has been chosen so that it is the most efficient possible, everything is ready for its integration.

- Abstract
Abstract: Using dually-polarized technology to double the spectral efficiency is very attractive in satellite communication systems. However, the cross polarization interference (XPI) which is inevitable will degrade the performance of the system. In order to eliminate it, a cross polarization interference cancellation (XPIC) is necessary, at least under unfavourable propagation conditions. This paper mainly studies the issue of cross polarization interference cancellation for dually-polarized radio systems over earth-space links. A joint XPIC and DEAF is presented, and compared with conventional XPIC, DEAF and other equalizer structures. The study shows that even under the circumstances with XPI only, the combination of XPIC and DEAF are necessary, for the XPI in the signal will cause ISI during the signal processing which can not be eliminated by the XPIC. And the simulation results also show that the joint XPIC and DEAF have the best performance among them. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

- Abstract
Co-Channel Dual Polarization (CCDP) technology is an efficient way to double the link capacity in modern communication system. However, the consequent polarization interferences become an inevitable problem to fight. Therefore, a Cross-Polarization Interference Canceller (XPIC) is necessary against the cross-talks. This paper focuses on the baseband XPIC technology and builds a simulink model to show the XPIC performance in 256-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) system. Meanwhile, a two-stage blind adaptive algorithm joint constant modulus algorithm (CMA) and Decision-Directed LMS (DDLMS) is introduced to XPIC to enhance system performance. Simulation results show the feasibility and effectiveness. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Microwave spectrum has been the primary solution for the rapid and cost-effective rollout of mobile backhaul infrastructure. Most of the mobile sites worldwide today are connecting via Microwave (MW) or Millimeter Wave (mmW) radio links. The evolution from 4G towards 5G presents significant challenges to all transport technologies and wireless ones make no exception. The goal of this paper is to investigate technical factors that can be used by regulators in order to achieve an effective frequency spectrum-pricing model applied for Microwave links. Especially in this stage, while all mobile operators need a huge bandwidth of spectrum to accommodate and backhaul high data rates for 4G and 5G applications. There are several strategies in theory that could be used by regulators in order to determine appropriate frequency spectrum fees. In addition, there are different factors when it comes to evaluating the value of spectrum. Many aspects and issues are facing regulators for designing an effective spectrum management, such as efficient spectrum usage, public and social benefits, introduction of new technologies, licensing regimes, etc. Therefore, in this paper we are looking for some technical factors that may be taken into account in order to have an effective frequency spectrum-pricing model for Microwave links.

Radio transmission on V and H polarizations is a well known technique to double channel capacity in point-to-point microwave radio systems. Due to non-ideal separation between the two polarizations, co-channel interference arises and must be dealt with at the receive side. Here we report the results of a FPGA-based coded modulation system that employs interference cancellation. The results show that the performance of the implemented system is close to the computed one and meets ETSI specifications with large margin.
