Abstract Solar energy plays an important role in renewable energy generation, with the advantages of low pollution, easy installation, and relatively easy access. However, photovoltaic (PV) modules are susceptible to cause localized shading from external factors such as leaves in the canopy, surrounding buildings, etc., which would affect power generation efficiency and even pose safety risks. Existing methods cannot perform well in real-time conditions. This paper proposes a real-time shading monitoring method for the PV module based on computer vision. The gamma transform and histogram matching were adopted to enhance key features and adjust the global gamut strength distribution in the image of the PV module; then the gray-level slicing method finished the segmentation to detect the shadow from the video. All processing can be realized in the real-time monitor camera and the detection results can be displayed on the HMI in PC with high efficiency and low cost. According to tests in the practical complex environment, the method can have enough detection performance and high real-time performance with an accuracy of 0.98, and the F0.5 and F2 values are 0.87 and 0.85, respectively. The metrics of the proposed method are higher than those of the existing Canny detection method, the Random Forest detection method, and the CNN detection method. In addition, the average time required by the proposed method to process a frame is 0.721 s. In addition, the average time required by the method to process an image frame is 0.721 s, which has good real-time performance.

Abstract Emergent superconductivity at the LaAlO3/KTaO3 interfaces exhibits a mysterious dependence on the KTaO3 crystallographic orientations. Here by soft X-ray angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we directly resolve the electronic structure of the LaAlO3/KTaO3 interfacial superconductors and the non-superconducting counterpart. We find that the mobile electrons that contribute to the interfacial superconductivity show strong k ⊥ dispersion. Comparing the superconducting and non-superconducting interfaces, the quasi-three-dimensional electron gas with over 5.5 nm spatial distribution ubiquitously exists and shows similar orbital occupations. The signature of electron-phonon coupling is observed and intriguingly dependent on the interfacial orientations. Remarkably, the stronger electron-phonon coupling signature correlates with the higher superconducting transition temperature. Our observations help scrutinize the theories on the orientation-dependent superconductivity and offer a plausible and straightforward explanation. The interfacial orientation effect that can modify the electron-phonon coupling strength over several nanometers sheds light on the applications of oxide interfaces in general.

Abstract Stress granules (SGs) are considered to be the nonmembrane discrete assemblies present in the cytoplasm to cope with various environmental stress. SGs can promote the progression and drug resistance of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Therefore, it is important to explore the mechanism of SG formation to reduce drug resistance in HCC. In this study, we demonstrate that p110α is required for SGs assembly. Mechanistically, the Arg-Gly (RG) motif of p110α is required for SG competence and regulates the recruitment of SG components. The methylation of p110α mediated by protein arginine methyltransferase 1 (PRMT1) interferes with the recruitment of p110α to SG components, thereby inhibiting the promotion of p110α to SGs. On this basis, we generated metal-polyphenol-network-coated R612F nanoparticles (MPN-R612F), which can efficiently enter HCC cells and maintain the hypermethylation state of p110α, thereby inhibiting the assembly of SGs and ultimately reducing the resistance of HCC cells to sorafenib. The combination of MPN-R612F nanoparticles and sorafenib can kill HCC cells more effectively and play a stronger anti-tumor effect. This study provides a new perspective for targeting SGs in the treatment of HCC.

Abstract Purpose To analyze the key factors influencing the psychological resilience of intensive care unit (ICU) nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic and put forward suggestions promoting resilience based on key improvement factors and clinical experience. Methods Data were collected from 35 ICU nurses in a hospital in Zhejiang Province, China, through a questionnaire survey conducted between January and February 2023. The Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method was then used to construct and visualize the relationship structure between the factors. The DEMATEL-based Analytical Network Process (DANP) was applied to determine the influential weights of all factors. Finally, the key improvement factors were identified using importance-performance analysis (IPA). Results Based on the cause-effect impact network diagram (CEIND), it was concluded that (C 11), (C 22), and (C 32) are the key factors that promote the improvement of psychological resilience among ICU nurses. Additionally, these factors were the key factors that influence psychological resilience. The confidence levels of these results and the gap were 99.6% and 0.4%, respectively, which exceed the threshold value of 95%, indicating good stability. Finally, for the case hospitals, (C 13) was identified as the key improvement factor. Conclusions Hospital administrators should support ICU nurses in enhancing their psychological resilience during major epidemics by: (i) Providing training on comprehensive protective measures and nursing skills; (ii) Effectively managing the human resources of nurses in the hospital to reduce their workload; (iii) Increasing social and organizational support for nurses to alleviate anxiety caused by large-scale public health events and improve their psychological resilience.

Abstract A comprehensive multi-analytical investigation was conducted on a piece of Longquan celadon excavated from the Shengbeiyu shipwreck site in the East China Sea. This study focused on a representative type of tubular bio-concretions attached to the submerged celadon, believed to have been formed through the construction activities of a marine tubeworm belonging to the benthic phylum of Polychaeta Annelids. The research examined the microstructure, composition and adhesion form of these tubular bio-concretions, aiming to elucidate their developmental and attachment patterns from a biomineralization and biofouling perspective. The tubular bio-concretions were found to have a bimineralic composition, with notably higher content of aragonite than calcite, and display diverse yet highly ordered microstructures. The presence of organic matter within the bio-concretions indicates an organic matrix-controlled crystallization model, commonly observed in the construction of benthic calcareous tubes. Microscopic analyses revealed the primary degradation microstructures and corresponding phases of the glaze to which calcareous tubes attached. These findings closely resembled the corrosion characteristics observed in submerged ceramic glaze without bio-concretion attachments, as documented in earlier studies. OM and SEM observations also indicated that the calcareous tubes intricately intermeshed with the cracked glaze layer of the celadon. Additionally, Raman spectroscopic analysis detected the presence of proteins at the interface, likely residual adhesives secreted by fouling organisms to cement themselves to the settlement substrata, suggesting the occurrence of organic-mediated bio-adhesion mechanisms. These results shed new light on the formation process of bio-concretions and their interaction with attached underwater ceramics. A simplified formation mechanism of this biologically-induced degradation has been discussed.

Abstract Skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM) is a highly malignant form of skin cancer, known for its unfavorable prognosis and elevated mortality rate. RARRES1, a gene responsive to retinoic acid receptors, displays varied functions in various cancer types. However, the specific role and underlying mechanisms of RARRES1 in SKCM are still unclear. GSE15605 was utilized to analyze the expression of RARRES1 in SKCM. Subsequently, the TCGA and GEO databases were employed to investigate the relationships between RARRES1 and clinicopathological parameters, as well as the prognostic implications and diagnostic efficacy of RARRES1 in SKCM. GO, KEGG, and GSEA analyses were conducted to explore the potential functions of RARRES1. Furthermore, the associations between RARRES1 and immune infiltration were examined. Genomic alterations and promoter methylation levels of RARRES1 in SKCM were assessed using cBioPortal, UALCAN, and the GEO database. Finally, RARRES1 expression in SKCM was validated through immunohistochemistry, and its functional role in SKCM progression was elucidated via in vivo and in vitro experiments. We found that RARRES1 was downregulated in SKCM compared with normal tissues, and this low expression was associated with worse clinicopathological features and poor prognosis of SKCM. The diagnostic efficacy of RARRES1, as determined by ROC analysis, was 0.732. Through GO, KEGG, and GSEA enrichment analysis, we identified 30 correlated genes and pathways that were mainly enriched in the tumor immune microenvironment, proliferation, apoptosis, and autophagy. Additionally, RARRES1 expression was found to be positively related to the infiltration of various immune cells in SKCM, particularly macrophages and T helper cells, among others. Analysis of genomic alterations and promoter methylation revealed that shallow deletion and hypermethylation of the RARRES1 promoter could lead to reduced RARRES1 expression. IHC validation confirmed the downregulation of RARRES1 in SKCM. Moreover, overexpression of RARRES1 inhibited the proliferation and migration of A375 cells, promoted apoptosis, and inhibited autophagic flux. In the mouse xenograft model, RARRES1 overexpression also suppressed SKCM tumor growth. Collectively, these findings suggest that RARRES1 may function as a suppressor and could potentially serve as a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for SKCM.

Abstract Genetic testing is crucial for precision cancer medicine. However, detecting multiple same-site insertions or deletions (indels) is challenging. Here, we introduce CoHIT (Cas12a-based One-for-all High-speed Isothermal Test), a one-pot CRISPR-based assay for indel detection. Leveraging an engineered AsCas12a protein variant with high mismatch tolerance and broad PAM scope, CoHIT can use a single crRNA to detect multiple NPM1 gene c.863_864 4-bp insertions in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). After optimizing multiple parameters, CoHIT achieves a detection limit of 0.01% and rapid results within 30 minutes, without wild-type cross-reactivity. It successfully identifies NPM1 mutations in 30 out of 108 AML patients and demonstrates potential in monitoring minimal residual disease (MRD) through continuous sample analysis from three patients. The CoHIT method is also competent for detecting indels of KIT, BRAF, and EGFR genes. Integration with lateral flow test strips and microfluidic chips highlights CoHIT’s adaptability and multiplexing capability, promising significant advancements in clinical cancer diagnostics.

Abstract Identification of somatic mutations (SMs) is essential for characterizing cancer genomes. While DNA-seq is the prevalent method for identifying SMs, RNA-seq provides an alternative strategy to discover tumor mutations in the transcribed genome. Here, we have developed a machine learning based pipeline to discover SMs based on RNA-seq data (designated as RNA-SMs). Subsequently, we have conducted a pan-cancer analysis to systematically identify RNA-SMs from over 8,000 tumors in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). In this way, we have identified over 105,000 novel SMs that had not been reported in previous TCGA studies. These novel SMs have significant clinical implications in designing targeted therapy for improved patient outcomes. Further, we have combined the SMs identified by both RNA-seq and DNA-seq analyses to depict an updated mutational landscape across 32 cancer types. This new online SM atlas, OncoDB ( https://oncodb.org ), offers a more complete view of gene mutations that underline the development and progression of various cancers.

Abstract Running speed degradation of insect-scale (less than 5 cm) legged microrobots after carrying payloads has become a bottleneck for microrobots to achieve high untethered locomotion performance. In this work, we present a 2-cm legged microrobot (BHMbot, BeiHang Microrobot) with ultrafast untethered running speeds, which is facilitated by the complementary combination of bouncing length and bouncing frequency in the microrobot’s running gait. The untethered BHMbot (2-cm-long, 1760 mg) can achieve a running speed of 17.5 BL s−1 and a turning centripetal acceleration of 65.4 BL s−2 at a Cost of Transport of 303.7 and a power consumption of 1.77 W. By controlling its two front legs independently, the BHMbot demonstrates various locomotion trajectories including circles, rectangles, letters and irregular paths across obstacles through a wireless control module. Such advancements enable the BHMbot to carry out application attempts including sound signal detection, locomotion inside a turbofan engine and transportation via a quadrotor.

Introduction This study examines the impact of China’s family doctor system (FDS) on healthcare utilisation and costs among diabetic patients with distinct long-term service utilisation patterns.Methods Conducted in City A, eastern China, this retrospective cohort study used data from the Health Information System and Health Insurance Claim Databases, covering diabetic patients from 1 January 2014 to 31 December 2019.Patients were categorised into service utilisation trajectories based on quarterly outpatient visits to community health centres (CHCs) and secondary/tertiary hospitals from 2014 to 2017 using group-based trajectory models. Propensity score matching within each trajectory group matched FDS-enrolled patients (intervention) with non-enrolled patients (control). Difference-in-differences analysis compared outcomes between groups, with a SUEST test for cross-model comparison. Outcomes included outpatient visits indicator, costs indicator and out-of-pocket (OOP) expenses.Results Among 17 232 diabetic patients (55.21% female, mean age 62.85 years), 13 094 were enrolled in the FDS (intervention group) and 4138 were not (control group). Patients were classified into four trajectory groups based on service utilisation from 2014 to 2017: (1) low overall outpatient utilisation, (2) high CHC visits, (3) high secondary/tertiary hospital visits and (4) high overall outpatient utilisation. After enrolled in FDS From 2018 to 2019, the group with high secondary/tertiary hospital visits saw a 6.265 increase in CHC visits (225.4% cost increase) and a 3.345 decrease in hospital visits (55.5% cost reduction). The high overall utilisation group experienced a 4.642 increase in CHC visits (109.5% cost increase) and a 1.493 decrease in hospital visits. OOP expenses were significantly reduced across all groups.Conclusion The FDS in China significantly increases primary care utilisation and cost, while reducing hospital visits and costs among diabetic patients, particularly among patients with historically high hospital usage. Policymakers should focus on enhancing the FDS to further encourage primary care usage and improve chronic disease management.

BackgroundThe escalating global economic burden of ischemic stroke poses a significant public health challenge amid global aging trends. The broad therapeutic efficacy of new antidiabetic drugs may offer new options in the prevention and treatment of ischemic stroke. Consistent conclusions regarding the relationship between novel antidiabetic agents and the risk of ischemic stroke remain elusive, and the causal relationship deserves further investigation.Materials and methodsThree novel antidiabetic drug targets were selected, and cis-expression quantitative trait loci (cis-eQTL) were screened as instrumental variables. Genetic association data for ischemic stroke were obtained from the Genome-wide Association Study (GWAS) database. Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis, facilitated by R software, calculated MR estimates for each single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), and meta-analysis was performed using five methods. To ensure robustness, sensitivity analyses, heterogeneity analyses, horizontal pleiotropy analyses, and co-localization analyses were conducted for significant MR associations.ResultsThree eQTLs for antidiabetic drug genes served as instrumental variables, utilizing a GWAS dataset comprising 34,217 cases and 406,111 controls for ischemic stroke. Genetic variants in glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA) targets exhibited a positive correlation with ischemic stroke risk (OR 1.06, 95% CI 1.04–1.08, P = 0.000), while genetic variation in dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors (DPP-4i) targets showed a negative association with ischemic stroke risk (OR 0.93, 95% CI 0.89–0.97, P = 0.003). Sensitivity analyses supported robust conclusions, revealing no heterogeneity or horizontal pleiotropy.ConclusionThis study found that GLP-1 RA and DPP-4i were associated with an increased risk of ischemic stroke by MR analysis. Although sensitivity analyses provide support for this result, it contradicts previous knowledge. Therefore, the results of this study still need to treated with caution. Updated and more in-depth GWAS data and high-quality real-world data are expected to validate the results.

To survive in challenging environments, animals must develop a system to assess food quality and adjust their feeding behavior accordingly. However, the mechanisms that regulate this chronic physiological food evaluation system, which monitors specific nutrients from ingested food and influences food-response behavior, are still not fully understood. Here, we established a low-quality food evaluation assay system and found that heat-killed E. coli (HK-E. coli), a low-sugar food, triggers cellular UPRER and immune response. This encourages animals to avoid low-quality food. The physiological system for evaluating low-quality food depends on the UPRER (IRE-1/XBP-1) - Innate immunity (PMK-1/p38 MAPK) axis, particularly its neuronal function, which subsequently regulates feeding behaviors. Moreover, animals can adapt to a low-quality food environment through sugar supplementation, which inhibits the UPRER -PMK-1 regulated stress response by increasing vitamin C biosynthesis. This study reveals the role of the cellular stress response pathway as physiological food evaluation system for assessing nutritional deficiencies in food, thereby enhancing survival in natural environments.

Abstract CCCTC-binding factor (CTCF), a ubiquitously expressed and highly conserved protein, is known to play a critical role in chromatin structure. Post-translational modifications (PTMs) diversify the functions of protein to regulate numerous cellular processes. However, the effects of PTMs on the genome-wide binding of CTCF and the organization of three-dimensional (3D) chromatin structure have not been fully understood. In this study, we uncovered the PTM profiling of CTCF and demonstrated that CTCF can be O-GlcNAcylated and arginine methylated. Functionally, we demonstrated that O-GlcNAcylation inhibits CTCF binding to chromatin. Meanwhile, deficiency of CTCF O-GlcNAcylation results in the disruption of loop domains and the alteration of chromatin loops associated with cellular development. Furthermore, the deficiency of CTCF O-GlcNAcylation increases the expression of developmental genes and negatively regulates maintenance and establishment of stem cell pluripotency. In conclusion, these results provide key insights into the role of PTMs for the 3D chromatin structure.

Abstract Background As a common psychological problem among older adults, fear of falling was found to have a wide range prevalence in different studies. However, the global prevalence of it was unknown and a lack of the large sample confirmed its risk factors. Objectives To report the global prevalence of fear of falling and to explore its risk factors among older adults for further developing precise interventions to systematically manage FOF. Design A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted by PRISMA guidelines. Methods Searches were conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library and the manual search in August 20, 2022, updated to September 2, 2023. Observational studies published in English were included and two researchers independently screened and extracted the data. Fixed or random effects mode was used to estimate the pooled prevalence of and risk factors for fear of falling. Heterogeneity resources were analyzed by subgroup and sensitivity analysis. Publication bias was assessed through funnel plots, Egger’s test and Begg’s test. Results A total of the 153 studies with 200,033 participants from 38 countries worldwide were identified. The global prevalence of fear of falling was 49.60%, ranging from 6.96–90.34%. Subgroup analysis found the estimates pooled prevalence of it was higher in developing countries (53.40%) than in developed countries (46.7%), and higher in patients (52.20%) than in community residents (48.40%). In addition, twenty-eight risk factors were found a significant associations with fear of falling, mainly including demographic characteristics, physical function, chronic diseases and mental problems. Conclusion The global prevalence of FOF was high, especially in developing countries and in patients. Demographic characteristics, Physical function, chronic diseases and mental problems were a significant association with FOF. Policy-makers, health care providers and government officials should comprehensively evaluate these risk factors and formulate precise intervention measures to reduce FOF. Trial registration The study was registered in the International Database of Prospectively Registered Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO): CRD42022358031.

Abstract Understanding intracellular phase separation is crucial for deciphering transcriptional control, cell fate transitions, and disease mechanisms. However, the key residues, which impact phase separation the most for protein phase separation function have remained elusive. We develop PSPHunter, which can precisely predict these key residues based on machine learning scheme. In vivo and in vitro validations demonstrate that truncating just 6 key residues in GATA3 disrupts phase separation, enhancing tumor cell migration and inhibiting growth. Glycine and its motifs are enriched in spacer and key residues, as revealed by our comprehensive analysis. PSPHunter identifies nearly 80% of disease-associated phase-separating proteins, with frequent mutated pathological residues like glycine and proline often residing in these key residues. PSPHunter thus emerges as a crucial tool to uncover key residues, facilitating insights into phase separation mechanisms governing transcriptional control, cell fate transitions, and disease development.

Abstract Metal-halide perovskite thin monocrystals featuring efficient carrier collection and transport capabilities are well suited for radiation detectors, yet their growth in a generic, well-controlled manner remains challenging. Here, we reveal that mass transfer is one major limiting factor during solution growth of perovskite thin monocrystals. A general approach is developed to overcome synthetic limitation by using a high solute flux system, in which mass diffusion coefficient is improved from 1.7×10–10 to 5.4×10–10 m2 s–1 by suppressing monomer aggregation. The generality of this approach is validated by the synthesis of 29 types of perovskite thin monocrystals at 40–90 °C with the growth velocity up to 27.2 μm min–1. The as-grown perovskite monocrystals deliver a high X-ray sensitivity of 1.74×105 µC Gy−1 cm−2 without applied bias. The findings regarding limited mass transfer and high-flux crystallization are crucial towards advancing the preparation and application of perovskite thin monocrystals.

Uncertainty is an essentially challenging for safe construction and long-term stability of geotechnical engineering. The inverse analysis is commonly utilized to determine the physico-mechanical parameters. However, conventional inverse analysis cannot deal with uncertainty in geotechnical and geological systems. In this study, a framework was developed to evaluate and quantify uncertainty in inverse analysis based on the reduced-order model (ROM) and probabilistic programming. The ROM was utilized to capture the mechanical and deformation properties of surrounding rock mass in geomechanical problems. Probabilistic programming was employed to evaluate uncertainty during construction in geotechnical engineering. A circular tunnel was then used to illustrate the proposed framework using analytical and numerical solution. The results show that the geomechanical parameters and associated uncertainty can be properly obtained and the proposed framework can capture the mechanical behaviors under uncertainty. Then, a slope case was employed to demonstrate the performance of the developed framework. The results prove that the proposed framework provides a scientific, feasible, and effective tool to characterize the properties and physical mechanism of geomaterials under uncertainty in geotechnical engineering problems.

Abstract Tibetan cultures reflect deeply rooted, regional interactions and diverse subsistence practices across varied high-altitude environments of the Tibetan Plateau. Yet, it remains unclear how these cultural relationships and social interactions took shape through time and how they were influenced by ecologically oriented behavioral strategies (e.g. mobility) emerging in prehistory. Recent applications of network analysis provide novel tools to quantitatively measure shared forms of material culture, but there have been fewer attempts to couple social network analysis with fine-grained geospatial modelling of prehistoric human mobility in Tibet. In this study, we developed an integrated high-resolution geospatial model and network analysis that simulates and correlates subsistence-based mobility and ceramic-based cultural material connectivity across the Tibetan Plateau. Our analysis suggests that (1) ecologically driven patterns of subsistence-based mobility correspond geographically with Bronze and Iron Ages settlement patterns across the Tibetan Plateau; (2) diverse material interaction networks among communities within western and central Tibet and trans-Himalayan connectivity across the broader Inner Asian Mountain Corridor can be linked to modeled differences in regional networks of subsistence mobility. This research provides ecological and archaeological insights into how subsistence-oriented mobility and interaction may have shaped documented patterns of social and material connectivity among regional Bronze and Iron Age communities of the Tibetan Plateau, prompting a reconsideration of Tibet's long-term cultural geography.

Abstract Background In the global trend of actively promoting the participation of older adults in the digital age, the relevant negative issues featuring potential Internet Addiction (IA) among them has risen to be a new challenge facing the global public health. However, there is a severe lack of related research. This study aimed to gain a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon and process of IA among the elderly. The purpose of this paper is to introduce factors that may influence IA in the demographic. Methods This study employed qualitative descriptive research methods to investigate older adults’ perceptions and experiences of IA. Semi-structured in-depth personal interviews were conducted between March and June 2023 with 36 senior citizens from urban communities in Chongqing, Southwest China. Data were analyzed via inductive content analysis methods. Results Through data analysis, 2 main categories concerning IA in older adults were identified: risk factors and protective factors. The risk factor categories include 5 individual factors (e.g., Internet as the major avenue for pursuing personal hobbies and interests, etc.), 3 family factors (e.g., household WIFI increasing the risk of prolonged Internet use indoors, etc.), 2 peer factors (e.g., peer recommendation and guidance as catalysts for intensified Internet engagement, etc.), 2 socio-environmental factors (e.g., the widespread daily Internet use spurs offline intolerance, etc.), and 3 Internet platform factors (e.g., the plenitude of online content triggers endless viewing/browsing behaviors, etc.). The category of protective factors encompasses 2 individual factors (e.g., a higher level of perceived risk regarding internet health hazards, etc.) and 2 family factors (e.g., more family commitment, etc.). Conclusions Older adults’ Internet addictive behaviors are shaped by multiple and complex internal and external factors. A higher level of online health risk perception is a key protective factor to effectively avoid the occurrence and deterioration of IA among the aged, a distinct finding from this study. It is believed that the “individual-family-peer-community” synergy strategy is expected to become an essential direction for IA intervention for older adults, in order to promote healthy Internet use among older adults.

Abstract Aims There are few studies on the treatment of heart failure by injecting stem cells into the pericardial cavity. Can the cells injected into the pericardial cavity migrate through the epicardium to the myocardial tissue? Whether there is therapeutic effect and the mechanism of therapeutic effect are still unclear. This study investigated the therapeutic efficacy and evidence of cell migration of adipose‐derived stem cells (ADSCs) injected into the pericardial cavity in rat heart failure. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the effectiveness and mechanism of treating heart failure by injecting stem cells into the pericardial cavity, laying an experimental foundation for a new approach to stem cell therapy for heart disease in clinical practice. Methods and results The inguinal adipose tissue of male SD rats aged 4–6 weeks was taken, ADSCs were isolated and cultured, and their stem cell surface markers were identified. Forty rats aged 6–8 weeks were divided into sham operation group, heart failure group, and treatment group; there were 15 rats in the heart failure group and 15 rats in the treatment group. Urban forests are considered a nature-based solution for climate change by cities and countries worldwide. However, the effectiveness of large-scale urban forest projects as a natural climate solution has been rarely assessed. In this study, we utilized a unique opportunity from Beijing's actions to implement a large urban forest project since 2012 to examine the effectiveness of the proposed solution. We collected vegetation structure data in two extensive field surveys to track the growth of the newly formed urban forest. Using field data and allometric equations, we estimated carbon sequestrated by the urban forest. We found that between 2013 and 2020, the urban forest grew rapidly, with the average increase of DBH and height reaching 0.95 cm and 0.47 m annually, respectively. The 16,667 ha of trees and shrubs sequestrated 423,074 tons of carbon in ten years, or 42,307 tons annually. The result showed that large-scale urban forest projects have the potential to be used as a natural climate solution (NCS). Nevertheless, planning and developing specific management techniques are needed to fully realize this potential.

AbstractAcute myocardial infarction, characterized by high morbidity and mortality, has now become a serious health hazard for human beings. Conventional surgical interventions to restore blood flow can rapidly relieve acute myocardial ischemia, but the ensuing myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MI/RI) and subsequent heart failure have become medical challenges that researchers have been trying to overcome. The pathogenesis of MI/RI involves several mechanisms, including overproduction of reactive oxygen species, abnormal mitochondrial function, calcium overload, and other factors that induce cell death and inflammatory responses. These mechanisms have led to the exploration of antioxidant and inflammation-modulating therapies, as well as the development of myocardial protective factors and stem cell therapies. However, the short half-life, low bioavailability, and lack of targeting of these drugs that modulate these pathological mechanisms, combined with liver and spleen sequestration and continuous washout of blood flow from myocardial sites, severely compromise the expected efficacy of clinical drugs. To address these issues, employing conventional nanocarriers and integrating them with contemporary biomimetic nanocarriers, which rely on passive targeting and active targeting through precise modifications, can effectively prolong the duration of therapeutic agents within the body, enhance their bioavailability, and augment their retention at the injured myocardium. Consequently, these approaches significantly enhance therapeutic effectiveness while minimizing toxic side effects. This article reviews current drug delivery systems used for MI/RI, aiming to offer a fresh perspective on treating this disease.

Elucidating the relationships between production-living-ecological space (PLES) and ecological environments can help identify new strategies to promote sustainable development. The northern slope of the Tianshan Mountains represents a typical complex ecosystem characterized by mountain-oasis-desert interactions in arid regions with prominent human-land conflicts and intricate ecological environments. Here, we analyzed the spatiotemporal variations in land use in the study area from the perspective of PLES. Based on moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) data, an improved remote sensing ecological index (IRSEI) suitable for arid areas was established to evaluate the eco-environment quality (EEQ) by introducing salinity and cleanliness indexes. A stepwise regression model was then used to identify and quantify the impact of the PLES transfer modes on EEQ. The results showed that: (1) The oasis area was dominated by agricultural production land, whereas the desert and alpine areas were dominated by other and pasture ecological lands, respectively. The oasis area primarily involved the conversion of pasture ecological land to agricultural production land, whereas the desert and alpine areas showed mutual transformation of ecological space. (2) The size relationship of the EEQ in each sub-region was alpine region (0.555) > oasis region (0.509) > desert region (0.424). The EEQ in the study area showed an overall upward trend but decreased in the alpine region. (3) Changes in the PLES and IRSEI primarily occurred in the oasis region. Among the 21 PLES transfer modes that affect EEQ, an increase in agricultural production land was the primary mode that enhanced IRSEI, whereas an increase in impervious surfaces significantly decreased IRSEI. The degree of influence was as follows: industrial and mining production (−0.594) > urban living (−0.462) > rural living land (−0.316). In addition, EEQ is also affected by the combined effects of climate, topography, and other factors. By proposing IRSEI, we highlight the impact of land-use transfer mode on ecological environment quality from the perspective of PLES, which can provide a reference for ecological environment evaluation in arid areas and is of great significance for land-use planning and ecological environment protection.

Takeover is a critical factor in the safety of autonomous driving. Takeover refers to the action of a human driver assuming control of an autonomous vehicle from its automated driving system. This can occur when the vehicle encounters a situation it cannot handle, when the system requests the driver to take control, or when the driver chooses to intervene for safety or other reasons. This study explored how traditional steering-wheel driving habits affect takeover performance in joystick-controlled autonomous vehicles. We conducted an experiment using a joystick-controlled Dongfeng Sharing-VAN autonomous vehicle in a low-speed campus environment. The participants were divided into three groups based on their driving experience: the individuals who have no licence and no experience (NN Group), the drivers who have licence but not experienced (HN Group), and the drivers who have licence and have been experienced (HH Group), representing varying levels of driving habits. The experiment focused on two takeover tasks: passive takeover and active takeover. We evaluated takeover performance using takeover time and takeover quality as key metrics. The results from the passive takeover task indicated that traditional driving habits had a significant negative impact on takeover performance. The HH Group took 2.65 s longer to complete the task compared to the NN Group, while the HN Group took 3.78 s longer. When we analyzed takeover time in stages, the initial stage showed the most significant difference in takeover time among the three groups. In the active takeover task, driving habits did not significantly affect takeover braking in front of obstacles in a low-speed driving environment. These findings suggest that conventional driving habits can hinder passive takeover in joystick-controlled autonomous vehicles. This insight can be valuable for developing training programs and guidelines for drivers transitioning from conventional to autonomous driving.

The kynurenine pathway (KP) serves as the primary route for tryptophan metabolism in most mammalian organisms, with its downstream metabolites actively involved in various physiological and pathological processes. Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) and tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase (TDO) serve as the initial and pivotal enzymes of the KP, with IDO playing important and intricate roles in cardiovascular diseases. Multiple metabolites of KP have been observed to exhibit elevated concentrations in plasma across various cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, and acute myocardial infarction. Multiple studies have indicated that kynurenine (KYN) may serve as a potential biomarker for several adverse cardiovascular events. Furthermore, Kynurenine and its downstream metabolites have complex roles in inflammation, exhibiting both inhibitory and stimulatory effects on inflammatory responses under different conditions. In atherosclerosis, upregulation of IDO stimulates KYN production, mediating aromatic hydrocarbon receptor (AhR)-induced exacerbation of vascular inflammation and promotion of foam cell formation. Conversely, in arterial calcification, this mediation alleviates osteogenic differentiation of vascular smooth muscle cells. Additionally, in cardiac remodeling, KYN-mediated AhR activation exacerbates pathological left ventricular hypertrophy and fibrosis. Interventions targeting components of the KP, such as IDO inhibitors, 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid, and anthranilic acid, demonstrate cardiovascular protective effects. This review outlines the mechanistic roles of KP in coronary atherosclerosis, arterial calcification, and myocardial diseases, highlighting the potential diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic value of KP in cardiovascular diseases, thus providing novel insights for the development and application of related drugs in future research.

BackgroundCoronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death in both developed and many developing countries. Exercise training is a fundamental component of cardiac rehabilitation programs for patients with CHD. This study aims to investigate the effects of a Tai Chi rehabilitation program, which is provided through a hybrid online and offline mode, on oxidative stress and inflammatory responses in patients with CHD.MethodsA total of 34 patients with coronary heart disease were randomly assigned to two groups: an experiment group (n = 14, age 62.07 ± 9.076 years) and a control group (n = 20, age 61.90 ± 9.700 years). The experiment group underwent a 12-week Tai Chi cardiac rehabilitation program (TCCRP), while the control group followed a conventional exercise rehabilitation program (CERP) consisting of 1-h sessions, 3 times per week, for a total of 36 sessions. Participants were studied at baseline and post-intervention. Abstract The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) Thr790 Met (T790M) mutation is responsible for approximately half of the acquired resistance to EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Identifying patients at diagnosis who are likely to develop this mutation after first- or second-generation EGFR-TKI treatment is crucial for better treatment outcomes. This study aims to develop and validate a radiomics-based machine learning (ML) approach to predict the T790M mutation in NSCLC patients at diagnosis. We collected retrospective data from 210 positive EGFR mutation NSCLC patients, extracting 1316 radiomics features from CT images. Using the LASSO algorithm, we selected 10 radiomics features and 2 clinical features most relevant to the mutations. We built models with 7 ML approaches and assessed their performance through the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The radiomics model and combined model, which integrated radiomics features and relevant clinical factors, achieved an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.80 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.79–0.81) and 0.86 (0.87–0.88), respectively, in predicting the T790M mutation. Our study presents a convenient and noninvasive radiomics-based ML model for predicting this mutation at the time of diagnosis, aiding in targeted treatment planning for NSCLC patients with EGFR mutations.

Abstract Background Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a progressive disease that involves multiple organs due to increased blood glucose, and diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the main complication of DM in the eyes and causes irreversible vision loss. In the pathogenesis of diabetic vascular disease, oxidative stress caused by hyperglycemia plays an important role in Müller cell impairment. In recent years, AdipoRon, an adiponectin analog that demonstrated important physiological functions in obesity, diabetes, inflammation, and cardiovascular diseases, demonstrated cellular protection from apoptosis and reduced inflammatory damage through a receptor-dependent mechanism. Here, we investigated how AdipoRon reduced oxidative stress and apoptosis in Müller glia in a high glucose environment. Results By binding to adiponectin receptor 1 on Müller glia, AdipoRon activated 5ʹ adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK)/acetyl-CoA carboxylase phosphorylation downstream, thereby alleviating oxidative stress and eventual apoptosis of cells and tissues. Transcriptome sequencing revealed that AdipoRon promoted the synthesis and expression of early growth response factor 4 (EGR4) and inhibited the cellular protective effects of AdipoRon in a high-glucose environment by reducing the expression of EGR4. This indicated that AdipoRon played a protective role through the EGR4 and classical AMPK pathways. Conclusions This provides a new target for the early treatment of DR. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Background The objective of this study was to develop and validate a nomogram for the individualized prediction of adverse events in patients with Stanford type A aortic dissection (TAAD) undergoing hybrid total aortic arch repair. Methods From April 2019 to April 2022, we conducted a comprehensive review of the medical records of Stanford type A aortic dissection patients who underwent hybrid total aortic arch repair surgery at our hospital. Patients were separated into two groups based on whether or not a composite adverse event occurred following surgery. Using univariate and multivariate analyses of logistic regression, the prediction model was created. Construct risk prediction models utilizing nomograms and evaluate their precision, discrimination, and clinical utility. Results Age, platelets, serum blood urea nitrogen, and ascending aortic diameter were the variables included in the nomogram by univariate and multivariate analysis. The risk model performed well in internal validation, with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.829. The calibration curve demonstrated good agreement between predicted and actual probabilities (Hosmer-Lemeshow test, P = 0.22). Clinical decision analysis curves demonstrate predictive nomograms’ clinical utility. Conclusion This study created and validated a nomogram for predicting the risk of composite endpoint events in TAAD patients undergoing hybrid total aortic arch repair. The nomogram can help determine the severity of a patient’s condition and provide a more personalized diagnosis and treatment.

The open burning of crop straw releases greenhouse and harmful gases, and pollutants, which hinder the reduction of carbon emissions and attainment of environmental protection commitments in China. In this study, based on the fractional discrete grey model (FDGM (1,1)) and the new information priority discrete grey model (NIPDGM (1,1)), an alternative weighted hybrid discrete grey model (WHDGM (1,1)) coupled with a particle swarm optimization algorithm was developed to forecast the total crop straw production, quantity of crop straw open burning, and burning emissions in China. The results have shown that the proposed WHDGM (1,1) had the highest simulation accuracy compared to NIPDGM (1,1) and FDGM (1,1). Based on the WHDGM (1,1), predictions for annual crop straw production, crop straw open burning, and induced CO, CO2, NOx, and PM2.5emissions are conducted, respectively. By 2025, crop straw production and crop straw open burning will increase by 10.5% and 7.2%, respectively. Relevant CO, CO2, NOx, and PM2.5will be augmented by 7.4%, 7.7%, 5.6%, and 9.6%, respectively. Countermeasures for controlling crop straw open burning and relevant policy suggestions have been discussed. This study offers practical insights and guidance for the strategic control of crop straw open burning, therefore, ensuring the achievement of carbon neutrality and supporting environmental commitment.

Abstract Background Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide, with a high mortality and poor survival rate. Abnormal tumor metabolism is considered a hallmark of HCC and is a potential therapeutic target. This study aimed to identify metabolism-related biomarkers to evaluate the prognosis of patients with HCC. Method The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database was used to explore differential metabolic pathways based on high and low epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) groupings. Genes in differential metabolic pathways were obtained for HCC metabolism-related molecular subtype analysis. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) from the three subtypes were subjected to Lasso Cox regression analysis to construct prognostic risk models. Stard5 expression in HCC patients was detected by western blot and immunohistochemistry (IHC), and the role of Stard5 in the metastasis of HCC was investigated by cytological experiments. Results Unsupervised clustering analysis based on metabolism-related genes revealed three subtypes in HCC with differential prognosis. A risk prognostic model was constructed based on 11 genes (STARD5, FTCD, SCN4A, ADH4, CFHR3, CYP2C9, CCL14, GADD45G, SOX11, SCIN, and SLC2A1) obtained by LASSO Cox regression analysis of the three subtypes of DEGs. We validated that the model had a good predictive power. In addition, we found that the high-risk group had a poor prognosis, higher proportion of Tregs, and responded poorly to chemotherapy. We also found that Stard5 expression was markedly decreased in HCC tissues, which was associated with poor prognosis and EMT. Knockdown of Stard5 contributed to the invasion and migration of HCC cells. Overexpression of Stard5 inhibited EMT in HCC cells. Conclusion We developed a new model based on 11 metabolism-related genes, which predicted the prognosis and response to chemotherapy or immunotherapy for HCC. Notably, we demonstrated for the first time that Stard5 acted as a tumor suppressor by inhibiting metastasis in HCC.

Chloranthus spicatus is one of the main scented tea varieties cultivated mainly in the Huangshan region, and dried flowers of these plants are mainly used for imparting a characteristic aroma to the tea. However, climatic variations in Huangshan limit its cultivation, with water deficit (WD) being the main limiting factor. The present study evaluated the effects of different WD intensities on the growth and physiological parameters of C. spicatus seedlings to determine the optimal soil moisture content for their large-scale cultivation. The experimental design comprised a control group (95–100%) and three treatment groups, namely mild WD (75–80%), moderate WD (55–60%), and severe WD (35–40%). Each treatment lasted 45 days and was given to 10 potted C. spicatus seedlings, with 3 replicates. Measurements were conducted for the shoot length and diameter; biomass; photosynthesis parameter; activities of antioxidant enzymes, namely superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT); and soluble protein (SP) and malonylaldehyde (MDA) contents of the seedlings. The results indicated that mild and moderate WD positively affected C. spicatus seedlings in terms of shoot length, diameter, biomass, root/shoot ratio, photosynthesis rate, intercellular CO2 concentration, water use efficiency, and carboxylation efficiency. Moreover, the growth and photosynthesis were increased in the mild and moderate WD seedlings but decreased in the severe WD seedlings. Mild and moderate WD also led to a significant decrease in the antioxidant enzyme activities and the MDA content of seedlings (p < 0.05), all of which exhibited higher levels in severe WD seedlings. These results indicated that severe water stress restricted the growth of seedlings, while mild and moderate stress proved beneficial. SP content of the seedlings increased under mild and moderate WD but decreased under severe WD. We infer that the strong hydrophilicity of SPs in the seedlings results in the accumulation of water in plant cells, thus conferring resistance to drought stress. In conclusion, reducing the soil moisture content by 55–80% in the Huangshan region may be a promising strategy for boosting its cultivation.

The seeds of ginkgo biloba L (GB) have been widely used worldwide. This study investigated the bioefficacies of whole GB seed powder (WGP) retaining the full nutrients of ginkgo against aging, atherosclerosis, and fatigue. The experimental results indicated that WGP lowered brain monoamine oxidase and serum malondialdehyde levels, enhanced thymus/spleen indexes, and improved learning ability, and delayed aging in senescent mice. WGP regulated lipid levels and prevented atherosclerosis by reducing triglycerides, lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and decreasing the atherosclerosis index. WGP improved exercise performance by reducing blood lactate accumulation and extending exhaustive swimming and climbing times, improved energy storage by increasing muscle/liver glycogen levels, and relieved physical fatigue. Network pharmacology analysis revealed 270 potential targets of WGP that play roles in cellular pathways related to inflammation inhibition, metabolism regulation, and anti-cellular senescence, etc. Protein-protein interaction analysis identified 10 hub genes, including FOS, ESR1, MAPK8, and SP1 targets. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations showed that the bioactive compounds of WGP bound well to the targets. This study suggests that WGP exerts prominent health-promoting effects through multiple components, targets, and pathways.

Tiger nut is the tuber of the perennial herbaceous plant Cyperus esculentus L., whose unique underground tubers are not only the main reproductive organ but also an important oil storage site. Oleosin is the most abundant structural protein in the oil body, which is an important membrane structural protein, playing a role in the formation and stability of lipid droplets in oilseed crops. Most studies have focused on the oleosin in oilseeds, but rarely on the oil containing tuber. In this study, nine oleosin genes from the Cyperus esculentus transcriptome were identified and divided into two groups via phylogenetic analysis. The expression patterns of the nine oleosins were examined through quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) in various development stages of stem tissue (35 d, 50 d, 75 d, 90 d, and 120 d after sowing). The subcellular localization of CeOle4 indicated that this protein was localized exclusively to membrane, indicating that it functioned in the plasma membrane. The highly expressed gene CeOle4 within the CeOleosin gene family was further transformed into yeast cells and plant materials. The results demonstrate that CeOle4 can promote lipid synthesis, enhancing the stability of oil lipids at low temperature and changing seed phenotypic traits. This discovery addresses and enriches the research on the function of CeOleosin genes and lays the groundwork for future studies on novel and superior transgenic crops related to tiger nut.

The Ficus genus, having radiated from the tropics and subtropics to the temperate zone worldwide, is the largest genus among woody plants, comprising over 800 species. Evolution of the Ficus species results in genetic diversity, global radiation and geographical differentiations, suggesting adaption to diverse environments and coping with stresses. Apart from familiar physiological changes, such as stomatal closure and alteration in plant hormone levels, the Ficus species exhibit a unique mechanism in response to abiotic stress, such as regulation of leaf temperature and retention of drought memory. The stress-resistance genes harbored by Ficus result in effective responses to abiotic stress. Understanding the stress-resistance mechanisms in Ficus provides insights into the genetic breeding toward stress-tolerant crop cultivars. Following upon these issues, we comprehensively reviewed recent progress concerning the Ficus genes and relevant mechanisms that play important roles in the abiotic stress responses. These highlight prospectively important application potentials of the stress-resistance genes in Ficus.

‘Hangju’ is a variety of Chrysanthemum × morifolium Ramat. with both edible and medicinal value, cultivated as a traditional Chinese medicine for four centuries. The cultivation of ‘Hangju’ is currently at risk due to waterlogging, yet there is a lack of comprehensive understanding regarding its response to waterlogging stress. This study compared the waterlogging-tolerant ‘Hangju’ variety Enhanced Waterlogging Tolerance (EWT) with the waterlogging-sensitive variety CK (‘zaoxiaoyangju’). EWT exhibited a more developed aeration tissue structure and demonstrated rapid growth regarding the adventitious roots following waterlogging. The time-course transcriptome analysis indicated that EWT could swiftly adjust the expression of the genes involved in the energy metabolism signaling pathways to acclimate to the waterlogged environment. Through WGCNA analysis, we identified Integrase-Type DNA-Binding Protein (CmTINY2) as a key factor in regulating the waterlogging tolerance in EWT. CmTINY2, a transcription factor belonging to the ethylene-responsive factor (ERF) subfamily III, operated within the nucleus and activated downstream gene expression. Its role in enhancing the waterlogging tolerance might be linked to the control of the stomatal aperture via the Ethylene-Responsive Element (ERE) gene. In summary, our research elucidated that the waterlogging tolerance displayed by EWT is a result of a combination of the morphological structure and molecular regulatory mechanisms. Furthermore, the study of the functions of CmTINY2 from ERF subfamily III also broadened our knowledge of the role of the ERF genes in the waterlogging signaling pathways.

Autonomous vehicles in industrial parks can provide intelligent, efficient, and environmentally friendly transportation services, making them crucial tools for solving internal transportation issues. Considering the characteristics of industrial park scenarios and limited resources, designing and implementing autonomous driving solutions for autonomous vehicles in these areas has become a research hotspot. This paper proposes an efficient autonomous driving solution based on path planning, target recognition, and driving decision-making as its core components. Detailed designs for path planning, lane positioning, driving decision-making, and anti-collision algorithms are presented. Performance analysis and experimental validation of the proposed solution demonstrate its effectiveness in meeting the autonomous driving needs within resource-constrained environments in industrial parks. This solution provides important references for enhancing the performance of autonomous vehicles in these areas.

Legionella pneumonia (LP) is a relatively uncommon yet well-known type of atypical community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). It is characterized by a rapid progression to severe pneumonia and can be easily misdiagnosed. In most patients, chest computed tomography (CT) showed patchy infiltration, which may progress to lobar infiltration or even lobar consolidation. While pulmonary cavities are commonly observed in immunocompromised patients with LP, they are considered rare in immunocompetent individuals. Herein, we present a case of LP in an immunocompetent patient with multiple cavities in both lungs. Pathogen detection was performed using metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS). This case highlights the unusual radiographic presentation of LP in an immunocompetent patient and emphasizes the importance of considering LP as a possible diagnosis in patients with pulmonary cavities, regardless of their immune status. Furthermore, the timely utilization of mNGS is crucial for early pathogen identification, as it provides multiple benefits in enhancing the diagnosis and prognosis of LP patients.

Abstract Background Tiger nut (Cyperus esculentus) is widely known as an additional source of food, oil and feed worldwide. The agricultural production of tiger nut has been greatly hindered by drought stress, reducing both yield and quality. Protein phosphatase 2 C (PP2Cs) plays an important role in plant responses to drought stress however, the molecular mechanism of PP2Cs in tiger nuts still unclear. Results In this study, we identified a putative group A PP2C-encoding gene (CePP2C19) from tiger nut using transcriptome analysis, which is highly induced by drought stress. The transient expression assay suggested that CePP2C19 was localized to nucleus. Furthermore, the interaction between CePP2C19 and CePYR1, a coreceptor for ABA signaling, was first detected using a yeast two-hybrid assay and then verified using a bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC) analysis. In addition, the transgenic Arabidopsis lines overexpressing CePP2C19 exhibited extreme tolerance to ABA and mannitol stresses during seed germination and root growth. At the mature stage, overexpression of CePP2C19 resulted in a higher tolerance to drought stress in transgenic Arabidopsis, as confirmed by a visible phenotype and several physiological parameters. Noticeably, the silencing of CePP2C19 by virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) showed obvious reduction in drought tolerance in tiger nut plants. Conclusions The CePP2C19 emerges as a pivotal gene involved in the ABA signaling pathway, which likely reduce ABA sensitivity and thus enhances drought tolerance in Cyperus esculentus.

Abstract Background This study is to evaluate and compare the improvement of upper airway morphology and hyoid bone position in children with Class II mandibular retrusion treated with Invisalign mandibular advancement (MA) and Twin-Block (TB) appliances, utilizing cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods 32 children aged between 8 and 11.5 years old were included in this study, with an average age of 10.2 years old. These children were divided into two groups, MA and TB, with 16 children in each group. Changes in upper airway morphology and hyoid bone position before and after treatment were analyzed using CBCT. Collective residence is the choice of urban residents for residential buildings in the context of urban intensification and population densification in modern times. Starting from the modern collective residence in the former concession area of Hankou, this paper, with the focus on Panoffs’ Mansion in the former Russian Concession, through field investigation and literature, original spatial pattern was deduced according to the current situation. Through the diagram analysis of its spatial sequence and organization, and comparative analysis with other collective residence in Hankou, to discuss the similarities and differences between the mansion and other modern Hankou collective residence in form, layout, internal space pattern and living mode. The urban texture of concession completely different form Hankou Old Town, but regional elements are integrated. Panoffs’ Mansion has these common characteristics. Moreover, its volume occupies a single block, and it is the earliest unit residence in Hankou. Panoffs’ Mansion is the earliest practice of unit housing in Hankou, which plays a leading role in modern housing in Hankou. The study of its spatial organization and architectural form is of great significance to the study of modern housing in Hankou concession.

Objective: To study the value of ICG molecular fluorescence imaging in laparoscopic hepatectomy for PLC. Methods: CNKI, WD, VIP.com, PM, CL and WOS databases were selected to search for literature on precise and traditional hepatectomy for the treatment of PLC. Results: A total of 33 articles were used, including 3987 patients, 2102 in precision and 1885 in traditional. Meta showed that the operation time of precision was longer, while IBV, HS, PLFI, ALT, TBil, ALB, PCR, PROSIM, RMR and 1-year SR had advantages. Conclusion: Hepatectomy with the concept of PS is a safe and effective method of PLC that can reduce the amount of IB, reduce surgery, reduce PC and improve prognosis and quality of life.

ObjectiveIn order to accurately analyze the time-domain shielding effectiveness (TDSE) of metallic enclosures, a discontinuous Galerkin time domain (DGTD) method based on the local time-stepping (LTS) technique and parallel technique is proposed. MethodsThe full wave electromagnetic simulation of metallic enclosures is carried out by the DGTD method, and the TDSE is then calculated. LTS technology is used to increase the time step size, combined with parallel technology to greatly shorten the computing time. The influence of design parameters such as aperture size, enclosure thickness and array hole spacing on TDSE is then analyzed. ResultsThe numerical results show that the proposed method is correct and effective. ConclusionThe proposed method provides an effective tool for the simulation of electromagnetic shielding problems, and has certain guiding significance for the design of metallic enclosures.

Abstract Nanotechnology offers the possibility of revolutionizing cancer theranostics in the new era of precision oncology. Extracellular vesicles (EVs)-like biomimetic nanoparticles (EBPs) have recently emerged as a promising platform for targeted cancer drug delivery. Compared with conventional synthetic vehicles, EBPs have several advantages, such as lower immunogenicity, longer circulation time, and better targeting capability. Studies on EBPs as cancer therapeutics are rapidly progressing from in vitro experiments to in vivo animal models and early-stage clinical trials. Here, we describe engineering strategies to further improve EBPs as effective anticancer drug carriers, including genetic manipulation of original cells, fusion with synthetic nanomaterials, and direct modification of EVs. These engineering approaches can improve the anticancer performance of EBPs, especially in terms of tumor targeting effectiveness, stealth property, drug loading capacity, and integration with other therapeutic modalities. Finally, the current obstacles and future perspectives of engineered EBPs as the next-generation delivery platform for anticancer drugs are discussed.

Fly ash–slag-based alkali-activated materials have excellent mechanical performance and a low carbon footprint, and they have emerged as a promising alternative to Portland cement. Therefore, replacing traditional Portland cement with slag–desulfurization gypsum-based alkali-activated materials will help to make better use of the waste, protect the environment, and improve the materials’ performance. In order to better understand it and thus better use it in engineering, it needs to be characterized for performance and compositional design. This study developed a novel framework for performance characterization and composition design by combining Categorical Gradient Boosting (CatBoost), simplicial homology global optimization (SHGO), and laboratory tests. The CatBoost characterization model was evaluated and discussed based on SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAPs) and a partial dependence plot (PDP). Through the proposed framework, the optimal composition of the slag–desulfurization gypsum-based alkali-activated materials with the maximum flexural strength and compressive strength at 1, 3, and 7 days is Ca(OH)2: 3.1%, fly ash: 2.6%, DG: 0.53%, alkali: 4.3%, modulus: 1.18, and W/G: 0.49. Compared with the material composition obtained from the traditional experiment, the actual flexural strength and compressive strength at 1, 3, and 7 days increased by 26.67%, 6.45%, 9.64%, 41.89%, 9.77%, and 7.18%, respectively. In addition, the results of the optimal composition obtained by laboratory tests are very close to the predictions of the developed framework, which shows that CatBoost characterizes the performance well based on test data. The developed framework provides a reasonable, scientific, and helpful way to characterize the performance and determine the optimal composition for civil materials.

Abstract 3-Hydroxybutyrate (3HB) is a small ketone body molecule produced endogenously by the body in the liver. Previous studies have shown that 3HB can reduce blood glucose level in type 2 diabetic (T2D) patients. However, there is no systematic study and clear mechanism to evaluate and explain the hypoglycemic effect of 3HB. Here we demonstrate that 3HB reduces fasting blood glucose level, improves glucose tolerance, and ameliorates insulin resistance in type 2 diabetic mice through hydroxycarboxylic acid receptor 2 (HCAR2). Mechanistically, 3HB increases intracellular calcium ion (Ca2+) levels by activating HCAR2, thereby stimulating adenylate cyclase (AC) to increase cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) concentration, and then activating protein kinase A (PKA). Activated PKA inhibits Raf1 proto-oncogene serine/threonine-protein kinase (Raf1) activity, resulting in a decrease in extracellular signal-regulated kinases 1/2 (ERK1/2) activity and ultimately inhibiting peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) Ser273 phosphorylation in adipocytes. Inhibition of PPARγ Ser273 phosphorylation by 3HB altered the expression of PPARγ regulated genes and reduced insulin resistance. Collectively, 3HB ameliorates insulin resistance in type 2 diabetic mice through a pathway of HCAR2/Ca2+/cAMP/PKA/Raf1/ERK1/2/PPARγ.

Abstract The Belt and Road (B&R) Initiative is considered as closely aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and could have a huge global impact. Its sustainable development issues have attracted worldwide attention. However, both the existing research and data accumulation on this aspect are seriously insufficient. Starting from the logic of the ultimate goal of sustainable development (namely within the ecological limitations, maximizing human well-being with minimum ecological consumption and minimizing the planetary pressures with maximum resource utilization efficiency), we have constructed a comprehensive evaluation method on sustainable development, namely the Consumption-Pressure-Output-Efficiency method in our previous study. Based on it, we provide a database with five datasets, which includes four core datasets (ecological consumption, planetary pressures, human well-being outputs and ecological well-being output efficiency) and a related dataset (biocapacity, ecological surplus/deficit, population), covering 61 B&R countries, B&R regional average and global average from 1990 to 2018. It can be used for further comprehensive research on sustainable development under planetary pressures and others of B&R.

Electrochemical corrosion and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behavior of X80 steel in the sulfurated marine environment at open circuit potential and −850 mVSCE are investigated. The results show that SCC is controlled by both anodic dissolution and hydrogen evolution, which is attributed to the HSO3− acceleration of the anodic and cathodic current density. Localized anodic dissolution leads to pits, which induce stress that promotes the initiation of stress corrosion cracks. Under a cathodic potential of −850 mVSCE, the effect of dissolution is limited, and SCC susceptibility increases because of the synergistic effect of the high HSO3−concentration and cathodic potential.

High-entropy alloys (HEAs) are expected to possess various excellent properties due to their vast composition design space and unique core effects. Annealing treatments after cold rolling are widely discussed as an effective means to improve the overall performance of the alloy. Nevertheless, the effect of annealing treatments on the corrosion resistance of cold-deformed alloys is still somewhat controversial. Therefore, cold rolling and annealing at different temperatures are performed on the Co40Cr20Ni30Al5Ti5 high-entropy alloy to investigate the effect of annealing temperature on its corrosion behavior. The annealing temperature range covers all stages of the HEA recovery-recrystallization-grain growth (in 50 °C gradients). The experimental results show that the HEA recrystallization is fundamentally complete at 850 °C and fully austenitized at 1050 °C. The best corrosion resistance performance is observed at 850 °C, with the lowest corrosion current density (ipass) and the lightest pitting in full immersion experiments. In addition, excellent passivation properties, such as the lowest steady-state current density iss and highest passivation film growth rate, are achieved at 850 °C. Further analyses of the growth films also show that the passivation films formed at 850 °C are thicker and uniform, and additionally have the highest Cr2O3 content. Accordingly, the effects of annealing temperature on HEA corrosion resistance and passivation behavior are discussed. The superior corrosion resistance and passivation behavior at 850 °C are attributed to the coupling of grain size and passivation film composition. The current findings might guide the optimized design of future cold-deformed alloys for better corrosion resistance.
