Abstract

Objective·To analyze the anatomical and macroscopic characteristics of the pterygopalatine suture (PPS) in Chinese population using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) technology, and to preliminarily investigate its developmental pattern and its association with the correction of maxillary underdevelopment.Methods·A total of 134 CBCT images, taken from July to August 2023 at Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, were categorized into six age groups. The PPS landmarks were utilized to determine the overall transverse position (XPPS), sagittal position (YPPS), insertion angle (IAP), insertion width of the pyramidal process (IWP), and insertion depth of the pyramidal process (IDP). The pterygomaxillary junction was identified through multiplanar observations. Regression analysis was performed to assess the correlation of these parameters with age and gender, and pairwise comparisons were made to determine the stable age range for parameter changes. Paired t-tests and paired chi-squared tests were conducted to analyze the bilateral parameter differences.Results·Results showed that YPPS and IDP did not exhibit significant correlation with age, whereas XPPS, IAP, IWP, and the incidence of pterygomaxillary fusion were significantly positively correlated with age (P

Abstract

In this paper, we introduce the notions of pre-uniform spaces and pre-proximities and investigate some basic properties about them, where the definition of pre-uniformity here is different with the pre-uniformities which are studied in \cite{BR2016}, \cite{GM2007} and \cite{K2016} respectively. First, we prove that each pre-uniform pre-topology is regular, and give an example to show that there exists a pre-uniform structure on a finite set such that the pre-uniform pre-topology is not discrete. Moreover, we give three methods of generating (strongly) pre-uniformities, that is, the definition of a pre-base, a family of strongly pre-uniform covers, or a family of strongly pre-uniform pseudometrics. As an application, we show that each strongly pre-topological group is completely regular. Abstract

In this paper, we pose the concepts of pre-topological groups and some generalizations of pre-topological groups. First, we systematically investigate some basic properties of pre-topological groups; in particular, we prove that each $T_{0}$ pre-topological group is regular and every almost topological group is completely regular which extends A.A. Markov's theorem to the class of almost topological groups. Moreover, it is shown that an almost topological group is $\tau$-narrow if and only if it can be embedded as a subgroup of a pre-topological product of almost topological groups of weight less than or equal to $\tau$. Abstract

Glioma is characterized by rapid cell proliferation, aggressive invasion, altered apoptosis and a poor prognosis. β-Sitosterol, a kind of phytosterol, has been shown to possess anticancer activities. Our current study aims to investigate the effects of β-sitosterol on gliomas and reveal the underlying mechanisms. Our results show that β-sitosterol effectively inhibits the growth of U87 cells by inhibiting proliferation and inducing G2/M phase arrest and apoptosis. In addition, β-sitosterol inhibits migration by downregulating markers of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Mechanistically, network pharmacology and transcriptomics approaches illustrate that the EGFR/MAPK signaling pathway may be responsible for the inhibitory effect of β-sitosterol on glioma. Afterward, the results show that β-sitosterol effectively suppresses the EGFR/MAPK signaling pathway. Moreover, β-sitosterol significantly inhibits tumor growth in a U87 xenograft nude mouse model. β-Sitosterol inhibits U87 cell proliferation and migration and induces apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in U87 cells by blocking the EGFR/MAPK signaling pathway. These results suggest that β-sitosterol may be a promising therapeutic agent for the treatment of glioma.
