High-harmonic generation (HHG), an extreme nonlinear effect, introduces an unprecedented paradigm to detect emergent quantum phases and electron dynamics inconceivable in the framework of linear and low-order nonlinear processes. As an important manifestation, the optical HHG (o-HHG) enables extraordinary opportunities to underpin attosecond physics. In addition to nonlinear optics, emerging nonlinear electric transport has been demonstrated recently and opens new paradigms to probe quantum phase transition, symmetry breaking, band geometrical and topological properties. Thus far, only electrical second-/third-harmonic generation in perturbative regime has been elucidated, while the electrical HHG (e-HHG) that can advance to extreme non-perturbative physics remains elusive. Here we report the observation of e-HHG up to 300th-order. Remarkably, the e-HHG shows a clear non-perturbative character and exhibits periodic oscillations with the reciprocal of driving current. Further, theoretical simulations corroborate the experiments, suggesting the contribution of singular distribution of Berry curvature near band edges. Our results demonstrate e-HHG in extreme nonlinear regime and may shed light on a plethora of exotic physics and applications, such as extreme non-equilibrium quantum phenomena, ultra-fast and coherent electrical signal generations and detections., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

High dynamic range (HDR) capture and display have seen significant growth in popularity driven by the advancements in technology and increasing consumer demand for superior image quality. As a result, HDR image compression is crucial to fully realize the benefits of HDR imaging without suffering from large file sizes and inefficient data handling. Conventionally, this is achieved by introducing a residual/gain map as additional metadata to bridge the gap between HDR and low dynamic range (LDR) images, making the former compatible with LDR image codecs but offering suboptimal rate-distortion performance. In this work, we initiate efforts towards end-to-end optimized HDR image compression for perceptually optimal storage and display. Specifically, we learn to compress an HDR image into two bitstreams: one for generating an LDR image to ensure compatibility with legacy LDR displays, and another as side information to aid HDR image reconstruction from the output LDR image. To measure the perceptual quality of output HDR and LDR images, we use two recently proposed image distortion metrics, both validated against human perceptual data of image quality and with reference to the uncompressed HDR image. Through end-to-end optimization for rate-distortion performance, our method dramatically improves HDR and LDR image quality at all bit rates.

Motivated by diverse secure requirements of multi-user in UAV systems, we propose a collaborative secret and covert transmission method for multi-antenna ground users to unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communications. Specifically, based on the power domain non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), two ground users with distinct security requirements, named Bob and Carlo, superimpose their signals and transmit the combined signal to the UAV named Alice. An adversary Willie attempts to simultaneously eavesdrop Bob's confidential message and detect whether Carlo is transmitting or not. We derive close-form expressions of the secrecy connection probability (SCP) and the covert connection probability (CCP) to evaluate the link reliability for wiretap and covert transmissions, respectively. Furthermore, we bound the secrecy outage probability (SOP) from Bob to Alice and the detection error probability (DEP) of Willie to evaluate the link security for wiretap and covert transmissions, respectively. To characterize the theoretical benchmark of the above model, we formulate a weighted multi-objective optimization problem to maximize the average of secret and covert transmission rates subject to constraints SOP, DEP, the beamformers of Bob and Carlo, and UAV trajectory parameters. To solve the optimization problem, we propose an iterative optimization algorithm using successive convex approximation and block coordinate descent (SCA-BCD) methods. Our results reveal the influence of design parameters of the system on the wiretap and covert rates, analytically and numerically. In summary, our study fills the gaps in joint secret and covert transmission for multi-user multi-antenna uplink UAV communications and provides insights to construct such systems.

We present DeepSeek-Coder-V2, an open-source Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) code language model that achieves performance comparable to GPT4-Turbo in code-specific tasks. Specifically, DeepSeek-Coder-V2 is further pre-trained from an intermediate checkpoint of DeepSeek-V2 with additional 6 trillion tokens. Through this continued pre-training, DeepSeek-Coder-V2 substantially enhances the coding and mathematical reasoning capabilities of DeepSeek-V2, while maintaining comparable performance in general language tasks. Compared to DeepSeek-Coder-33B, DeepSeek-Coder-V2 demonstrates significant advancements in various aspects of code-related tasks, as well as reasoning and general capabilities. Additionally, DeepSeek-Coder-V2 expands its support for programming languages from 86 to 338, while extending the context length from 16K to 128K. In standard benchmark evaluations, DeepSeek-Coder-V2 achieves superior performance compared to closed-source models such as GPT4-Turbo, Claude 3 Opus, and Gemini 1.5 Pro in coding and math benchmarks.

Radio Frequency (RF) fingerprinting is to identify a wireless device from its uniqueness of the analog circuitry or hardware imperfections. However, unlike the MAC address which can be modified, such hardware feature is inevitable for the signal emitted to air, which can possibly reveal device whereabouts, e.g., a sniffer can use a pre-trained model to identify a nearby device when receiving its signal. Such fingerprint may expose critical private information, e.g., the associated upper-layer applications or the end-user. In this paper, we propose to erase such RF feature for wireless devices, which can prevent fingerprinting by actively perturbation from the signal perspective. Specifically, we consider a common RF fingerprinting scenario, where machine learning models are trained from pilot signal data for identification. A novel adversarial attack solution is designed to generate proper perturbations, whereby the perturbed pilot signal can hide the hardware feature and misclassify the model. We theoretically show that the perturbation would not affect the communication function within a tolerable perturbation threshold. We also implement the pilot signal fingerprinting and the proposed perturbation process in a practical LTE system. Extensive experiment results demonstrate that the RF fingerprints can be effectively erased to protect the user privacy.

We present DeepSeek-V2, a strong Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) language model characterized by economical training and efficient inference. It comprises 236B total parameters, of which 21B are activated for each token, and supports a context length of 128K tokens. DeepSeek-V2 adopts innovative architectures including Multi-head Latent Attention (MLA) and DeepSeekMoE. MLA guarantees efficient inference through significantly compressing the Key-Value (KV) cache into a latent vector, while DeepSeekMoE enables training strong models at an economical cost through sparse computation. Compared with DeepSeek 67B, DeepSeek-V2 achieves significantly stronger performance, and meanwhile saves 42.5% of training costs, reduces the KV cache by 93.3%, and boosts the maximum generation throughput to 5.76 times. We pretrain DeepSeek-V2 on a high-quality and multi-source corpus consisting of 8.1T tokens, and further perform Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) and Reinforcement Learning (RL) to fully unlock its potential. Evaluation results show that, even with only 21B activated parameters, DeepSeek-V2 and its chat versions still achieve top-tier performance among open-source models.

The generation of smooth and continuous images between domains has recently drawn much attention in image-to-image (I2I) translation. Linear relationship acts as the basic assumption in most existing approaches, while applied to different aspects including features, models or labels. However, the linear assumption is hard to conform with the element dimension increases and suffers from the limit that having to obtain both ends of the line. In this paper, we propose a novel rotation-oriented solution and model the continuous generation with an in-plane rotation over the style representation of an image, achieving a network named RoNet. A rotation module is implanted in the generation network to automatically learn the proper plane while disentangling the content and the style of an image. To encourage realistic texture, we also design a patch-based semantic style loss that learns the different styles of the similar object in different domains. We conduct experiments on forest scenes (where the complex texture makes the generation very challenging), faces, streetscapes and the iphone2dslr task. Decision-directed channel estimation (DDCE) is one kind of blind channel estimation method that tracks the channel blindly by an iterative algorithm without relying on the pilots, which can increase the utilization of wireless resource. However, one major problem of DDCE is the performance degradation caused by error accumulation during the tracking process. In this paper, we propose an reliable DDCE (RDDCE) scheme for an OFDM-based communication system in the time-varying deep fading environment. By combining the conventional DDCE and discrete Fourier transform (DFT) channel estimation method, the proposed RDDCE scheme selects the reliable estimated channels on the subcarriers which are less affected by deep fading, and then estimates the channel based on the selected subcarriers by an extended DFT channel estimation where the indices of selected subcarriers are not distributed evenly. Simulation results show that RRDCE can alleviate the performance degradation effectively, track the channel with high accuracy on a long time scale, and has good performance under time-varying and noisy channel conditions.

The rapid development of open-source large language models (LLMs) has been truly remarkable. However, the scaling law described in previous literature presents varying conclusions, which casts a dark cloud over scaling LLMs. We delve into the study of scaling laws and present our distinctive findings that facilitate scaling of large scale models in two commonly used open-source configurations, 7B and 67B. Guided by the scaling laws, we introduce DeepSeek LLM, a project dedicated to advancing open-source language models with a long-term perspective. To support the pre-training phase, we have developed a dataset that currently consists of 2 trillion tokens and is continuously expanding. We further conduct supervised fine-tuning (SFT) and Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) on DeepSeek LLM Base models, resulting in the creation of DeepSeek Chat models. Our evaluation results demonstrate that DeepSeek LLM 67B surpasses LLaMA-2 70B on various benchmarks, particularly in the domains of code, mathematics, and reasoning. Furthermore, open-ended evaluations reveal that DeepSeek LLM 67B Chat exhibits superior performance compared to GPT-3.5.

This paper provides a novel parsimonious yet efficient design for zero-shot learning (ZSL), dubbed ParsNets, where we are interested in learning a composition of on-device friendly linear networks, each with orthogonality and low-rankness properties, to achieve equivalent or even better performance against existing deep models. Concretely, we first refactor the core module of ZSL, i.e., visual-semantics mapping function, into several base linear networks that correspond to diverse components of the semantic space, where the complex nonlinearity can be collapsed into simple local linearities. Then, to facilitate the generalization of local linearities, we construct a maximal margin geometry on the learned features by enforcing low-rank constraints on intra-class samples and high-rank constraints on inter-class samples, resulting in orthogonal subspaces for different classes and each subspace lies on a compact manifold. To enhance the model's adaptability and counterbalance over/under-fittings in ZSL, a set of sample-wise indicators is employed to select a sparse subset from these base linear networks to form a composite semantic predictor for each sample. Notably, maximal margin geometry can guarantee the diversity of features, and meanwhile, local linearities guarantee efficiency. Thus, our ParsNets can generalize better to unseen classes and can be deployed flexibly on resource-constrained devices. A unitary Fermi gas in an isotropic harmonic trap is predicted to show scale and conformal symmetry that have important consequences in its thermodynamic and dynamical properties. By experimentally realizing a unitary Fermi gas in an isotropic harmonic trap, we demonstrate its universal expansion dynamics along each direction and at different temperatures. We show that as a consequence of SO(2,1) symmetry, the measured release energy is equal to that of the trapping energy. We further observe the breathing mode with an oscillation frequency twice the trapping frequency and a small damping rate, providing the evidence of SO(2,1) symmetry. In addition, away from resonance when scale invariance is broken, we determine the effective exponent $\gamma$ that relates the chemical potential and average density along the BEC-BCS crossover, which qualitatively agrees with the mean field predictions. Due to its high communication efficiency, over-the-air computation (AirComp) has been expected to carry out various computing tasks in the next-generation wireless networks. However, up to now, most applications of AirComp are explored in the analog domain, which limits the capability of AirComp in resisting the complex wireless environment, not to mention to integrate the AirComp technique to the existing universal communication standards, most of which are based on the digital system. In this paper, we propose a joint design of channel coding and digital modulation for digital AirComp transmission to attempt to reinforce the foundation for the application of AirComp in the digital system. Specifically, we first propose a non-binary LDPC-based channel coding scheme to enhance the error-correction capability of AirComp. Then, a digital modulation scheme is proposed to achieve the number summation from multiple transmitters via the lattice coding technique. In this paper, we describe the capabilities and constraints of Large Language Models (LLMs) within disparate academic disciplines, aiming to delineate their strengths and limitations with precision. We examine how LLMs augment scientific inquiry, offering concrete examples such as accelerating literature review by summarizing vast numbers of publications, enhancing code development through automated syntax correction, and refining the scientific writing process. Simultaneously, we articulate the challenges LLMs face, including their reliance on extensive and sometimes biased datasets, and the potential ethical dilemmas stemming from their use. Our critical discussion extends to the varying impacts of LLMs across fields, from the natural sciences, where they help model complex biological sequences, to the social sciences, where they can parse large-scale qualitative data. We conclude by offering a nuanced perspective on how LLMs can be both a boon and a boundary to scientific progress.

Lu Xun and Zhou Zuoren stand as two of the most influential writers in modern Chinese literature. Beyond their familial ties as brothers, they were also intimate collaborators during the nascent stages of their writing careers. This research employs quantitative methods to revisit three disputed essays pseudonymously published by the brothers in 1912. Our stylometric analysis uses an interpretable authorship attribution model to investigate the essays' authorship and examine the brothers' respective writing styles. Our findings suggest that 'Looking at the Country of China' was authored by Lu Xun. Moreover, 'People of Yue, Forget Not Your Ancestors' Instructions' seems to be either predominantly authored or extensively revised by Lu Xun given its notable stylistic similarities to 'Looking at the Land of Yue,' a piece Zhou Zuoren recognized as his own, but edited by Lu Xun. The third essay, 'Where Has the Character of the Republic Gone?,' exhibits a 'diluted', mixed writing style, suggesting thorough collaboration. We offer visual representations of essay features to facilitate a nuanced and intuitive understanding. We have uncovered evidence suggesting Lu Xun's covert engagement with social issues during his purported 'silent era' and provided insights into the brothers' formative intellectual trajectories.

We have found the special dark state solutions of the anisotropic two-qubit quantum Rabi model (QRM), which has at most one photon, and constant eigenenergy in the whole coupling regime. Accordingly, we propose a scheme to deterministically generate two kinds of the two-qubit Bell states through adiabatic evolution along the dark states. With the assistance of the Stark shift, the generation time can be reduced to subnanosecond scales, proportional to the reverse of the resonator frequency, with fidelity reaching 99%. Furthermore, the other two kinds of Bell states can also be ultrafast generated.

We propose a simple method of synchronous combined modulations to generate the exact analytic solutions for a spin-orbit (SO) coupled ultracold atom held in a non-Hermitian double-well potential. Based on the obtained analytical solutions, we mainly study the parity-time ($\mathcal{PT}$) symmetry of this system and the system stability for both balanced and unbalanced gain-loss between two wells. Under balanced gain and loss, the effect of the proportional constants between synchronous combined modulations and the SO-coupling strength on the $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry breaking is revealed analytically. Surprisingly, we find when the Zeeman field is present, the stable spin-flipping tunneling between two wells can not occur in the non-Hermitian SO-coupled ultracold atomic system, but the stable spin-conserving tunneling can be performed. Under unbalanced gain and loss, the unique set of parameter conditions that can cause the system to stabilize is found. The results may provide a possibility for the exact control of $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry breaking and quantum spin dynamics in a non-Hermitian SO-coupled system.

We perform the linear analysis of causality and stability for a minimal extended spin hydrodynamics up to second order of the gradient expansion. The first order spin hydrodynamics, with a rank-3 spin tensor being antisymmetric for only the last two indices, are proved to be acausal and unstable. We then consider the minimal causal spin hydrodynamics up to second order of the gradient expansion. We derive the necessary causality and stability conditions for this minimal causal spin hydrodynamics. Interestingly, the satisfaction of the stability conditions relies on the equations of state for the spin density and chemical potentials. Moreover, different with the conventional relativistic dissipative hydrodynamics, the stability of the theory seems to be broken at the finite wave-vector when the stability conditions are fulfilled at small and large wave-vector limits. Anisotropy plays a key role in science and engineering. However, the interplay between the material and engineered photonic anisotropies has hardly been explored due to the vastly different length scales. Here we demonstrate a matter-light hybrid system, exciton-polaritons in a 2D antiferromagnet, CrSBr, coupled with an anisotropic photonic crystal (PC) cavity, where the spin, atomic lattice, and photonic lattices anisotropies are strongly correlated, giving rise to unusual properties of the hybrid system and new possibilities of tuning. We show exceptionally strong coupling between engineered anisotropic optical modes and anisotropic excitons in CrSBr, which is stable against excitation densities a few orders of magnitude higher than polaritons in isotropic materials. Moreover, the polaritons feature a highly anisotropic polarization tunable by tens of degrees by controlling the matter-light coupling via, for instance, spatial alignment between the material and photonic lattices, magnetic field, temperature, cavity detuning and cavity quality-factors. The demonstrated system provides a prototype where atomic- and photonic-scale orders strongly couple, opening opportunities of photonic engineering of quantum materials and novel photonic devices, such as compact, on-chip polarized light source and polariton laser.

Chiral light-matter interactions supported by topological edge modes at the interface of valley photonic crystals provide a robust method to implement the unidirectional spin transfer. The valley topological photonic crystals possess a pair of counterpropagating edge modes. The edge modes are robust against the sharp bend of $60^{\circ}$ and $120^{\circ}$, which can form a resonator with whispering gallery modes. Here, we demonstrate the asymmetric emission of chiral coupling from single quantum dots in a topological resonator by tuning the coupling between a quantum emitter and a resonator mode. Under a magnetic field in Faraday configuration, the exciton state from a single quantum dot splits into two exciton spin states with opposite circularly polarized emissions due to Zeeman effect. Two branches of the quantum dot emissions couple to a resonator mode in different degrees, resulting in an asymmetric chiral emission. Without the demanding of site-control of quantum emitters for chiral quantum optics, an extra degree of freedom to tune the chiral contrast with a topological resonator could be useful for the development of on-chip integrated photonic circuits., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures
