General anesthesia shares many similarities with natural sleep in behavior and electroencephalogram (EEG) patterns. The latest evidence suggests that general anesthesia and sleep–wake behavior may share overlapping neural substrates. The GABAergic neurons in the basal forebrain (BF) have recently been demonstrated to play a key role in controlling wakefulness. It was hypothesized that BF GABAergic neurons may participate in the regulation of general anesthesia. Here, usingin vivofiber photometry, we found that the activity of BF GABAergic neurons was generally inhibited during isoflurane anesthesia, having obviously decreased during the induction of anesthesia and being gradually restored during the emergence from anesthesia, in Vgat-Cre mice of both sexes. Activation of BF GABAergic neurons with chemogenetic and optogenetic approaches decreased sensitivity to isoflurane, delayed induction, and accelerated emergence from isoflurane anesthesia. Optogenetic activation of BF GABAergic neurons decreased EEG δ power and the burst suppression ratio (BSR) during 0.8% and 1.4% isoflurane anesthesia, respectively. Similar to the effects of activating BF GABAergic cell bodies, photostimulation of BF GABAergic terminals in the thalamic reticular nucleus (TRN) also strongly promoted cortical activation and behavioral emergence from isoflurane anesthesia. Collectively, these results showed that the GABAergic BF is a key neural substrate for general anesthesia regulation that facilitates behavioral and cortical emergence from general anesthesia via the GABAergic BF-TRN pathway. Our findings may provide a new target for attenuating the depth of anesthesia and accelerating emergence from general anesthesia.SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENTThe basal forebrain (BF) is a key brain region controlling sleep–wake behavior. Activation of GABAergic neurons in the BF potently promotes behavioral arousal and cortical activity. Recently, many sleep–wake-related brain structures have been reported to participate in the regulation of general anesthesia. However, it is still unclear what role BF GABAergic neurons play in general anesthesia. In this study, we aim to reveal the role of BF GABAergic neurons in behavioral and cortical emergence from isoflurane anesthesia and elucidate the underlying neural pathways. Understanding the specific role of BF GABAergic neurons in isoflurane anesthesia would improve our understanding of the mechanisms of general anesthesia and may provide a new strategy for accelerating emergence from general anesthesia.

Limosilactobacillus reuteri was encapsulated using Maillard-reaction-products (MRPs) of soy protein isolate (SPI) and α-lactose monohydrate by freeze-drying. The mixed solution of SPI and α-lactose monohydrate was placed in a water bath at 89°C for 160 min for Maillard reaction, and then freeze-dried to obtain MRPs. The effects of Maillard reaction on functional characteristics of MRPs and the properties of MRPs-microcapsules were studied. SDS-PAGE indicated that SPI subunit reacted with lactose to form a polymer, and the band of MRPs disappeared around the molecular weights of 33, 40, 63, and 100 kDa. Compared with SPI, the emulsion stability, emulsion activity, foaming capacity, foam stability, and gel strength of MRPs were increased by 259%, 55.71%, 82.32%, 58.53%, and 3266%, respectively. The results of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, circular dichroism spectroscopy, and scanning electron micrographs confirmed that the protein structure also changed significantly. Then, MRPs were used as wall material to prepare L. reuteri microcapsules. Physical properties and viable counts of L. reuteri during the simulated gastrointestinal digestion and storage period were determined. The particle size of MRPs-microcapsules (68 μm) was smaller than that of SPI-microcapsules (91 μm). The viable counts of L. reuteri in simulated gastrointestinal digestion and after storage for 30 days were improved. The modifications with Maillard reaction can improve emulsification, foaming, and gel strength of SPI, and MRPs could be used as a new type of wall material in the production of L. reuteri microcapsules.

Sleep deprivation (SD) has become a serious concern worldwide. This study aimed to identify key modules and candidate hub genes correlated with diseases caused by SD, using co-expression analysis. The weighted gene co-expression network analysis was performed to construct a co-expression network of hub genes correlated with SD. Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analyses were performed to search for signaling pathways. The protein–protein interaction network analysis of central genes was performed to recognize the interactions among central genes. Molecular Complex Detection, a plugin in Cytoscape, was used to discover the hub gene clusters involved in SD. A total of 564 genes in the yellow module were identified based on the results of topological overlap measure–based clustering. The yellow module showed a pivotal correlation with SD. Six hub gene clusters prominently associated with SD were identified. Heat shock protein family and circadian clock genes among them may be the hub genes involved in SD. These genes and pathways might become therapeutic targets with clinical usefulness in the future.

To investigate the efficacy of Qingfei Yihuo Capsules (清肺抑火胶囊, QYCs) in preventing the air pollution associated exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This was a prospective, parallel, single-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial. Sixty patients with stable Group D COPD were randomly allocated to receive either oral QYCs (intervention group) or placebos (control group, 30 cases per group) for 15 days in the presumed high-incidence air pollution season and followed-up for 1 year. Both groups were given individualized Western medicine therapy according to the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease criteria as usual. Total and separate numbers of acute exacerbation (AE) associated with striking air pollution was the primary outcomes. Secondary outcomes included total numbers of deteriorating respiratory symptoms and separate numbers associated with striking air pollution, as well as scores of COPD Assessment Test (CAT) and modified Medical Research Council Scale (mMRC). All the 60 patients completed the study. There was no statistical significance in total numbers of AE between the two groups (P>0.05). Compared with the control group, a significant reduction in air-pollution associated numbers of deteriorated respiratory symptoms was observed in the intervention group (1.9–1.2 vs. 3.6–2.4, P 0.05). Only 2 patients in the intervention group reported diarrhea and recovered after drug discontinuance. For patients with Group D COPD, oral QYCs in high-incidence season of air pollution can effectively mitigate respiratory symptoms associated with air pollution, although there was no evidence that it had a significant reductive effect on AEs. BACKGROUND Repeated endoscopic probe dilatation is the most preferred treatment for esophageal stenosis which may cause high levels of symptom distress in the patient's home rehabilitation stage. AIM To explore the changes in the symptom distress level and its correlation with the dilation effect in patients with esophageal carcinoma undergoing repeated dilations for lumen stenosis. METHODS The difference (R2-R1) between the diameter of the esophageal stenosis opening (R1) of the patients before dilation (R1) and after dilation (R2) was calculated to describe the extent and expansion of the esophageal stenosis before and after dilation. The M.D. Anderson Symptom Inventory was used to describe the symptom distress level of patients with dilation intermittence during their stay at home and to explore the correlation between the dilation effect and symptom distress level. RESULTS The diameter of the esophagus (R1) increased before each dilation in patients undergoing esophageal dilation (P < 0.05). The diameter (R2) increased after dilation (P < 0.05); the dilation effect (R2-R1) decreased with the number of dilations (P < 0.05). The total symptom distress score significantly increased with the number of dilations (P < 0.05). The symptom distress scores of the patients were negatively correlated (P < 0.05) with the previous dilation effect (R2-R1) and the esophageal diameter (R2) after the previous dilation. After the 1st to 4th dilations, the patient's symptom distress score was negatively correlated with the esophageal diameter (R12) before the next dilation, while there was no significant correlation (P > 0.05) with the other dilations. CONCLUSION In patients who have undergone repeated dilations, better effect stands for lower symptom distress level and the increase in symptom distress has a prompt effect on the severity of the next occurrence of restenosis.

Coronary microembolization can cause slow or no reflow, which is one of the crucial reasons for reverse of clinical advantage from cardiac reperfusion therapy. miRNAs and apoptosis are dramatically involved in the occurrence and process of cardiovascular diseases. Fortunately, human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs) have emerged as an appealing model for the evaluation of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, our study was designed to explore the role of miR-30e-5p and apoptosis in a hypoxia-induced hiPSC-CM injury model. Our results showed that the expression levels of miR-30e-5p were overtly downregulated in a time-dependent manner under hypoxic conditions. Expression of miR-30e-5p was significantly downregulated after 24 hours of hypoxia, hypoxia treatment dramatically induced apoptosis. Calcium handling capability significantly decreased after 24 hours of hypoxia treatment. miR-30e-5p overexpression partially mitigated hypoxia-induced apoptosis and rescued hypoxia-induced calcium handling defects in hiPSC-CMs. The luciferase reporter assay showed that miR-30e-5p can directly target the 3'-UTR of Bim, which is an apoptosis activator and autophagy suppressor. The mRNA and protein of Bim remarkably increased after hypoxia treatment and reduced with miR-30e-5p overexpression. Moreover, downregulation of Bim mitigated hypoxia-induced apoptosis and activated autophagy. These results demonstrated that miR-30e-5p mitigated hypoxia-induced apoptosis in hiPSC-CMs at least in part via Bim suppression and subsequent autophagy activation. Our study suggested miR-30e-5p may act as a potential therapeutic target for coronary microembolization.

Background Sleep deprivation (SD) often leads to complex detrimental consequences, though the mechanisms underlying these dysfunctional effects remain largely unknown. We investigated whether the right stellate ganglion block in rats can improve the spatial learning and memory dysfunction induced by sleep deprivation by alleviating the damage of hippocampus in rats. Methods Sixty four male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups: Control, SD (sleep deprivation), SGB (stellate ganglion block) and SGB + SD (stellate ganglion block+ sleep deprivation) (n = 16). The SGB and SD + SGB groups were subjected to right stellate ganglion block through posterior approach method once per day. SD and SD + SGB groups were treated with modified multi-platform water environment method for 96 h sleep deprivation in rats and their body weights were analyzed. Histopathological changes of hippocampal neurons in rats and the expression of Caspase-3 in hippocampus of rats was detected by western blotting. ELISA was used to detect the content of IL-6, IL-1 in hippocampus and serum melatonin levels. Results Compared with the group SD, the spatial learning and memory function of the group SD + SGB was improved, the weight loss was alleviated, the pathological damage of the hippocampus was reduced and the expression of IL-6, IL-1β and Caspase-3 in the hippocampus was decreased. The content of rat serum melatonin was also increased. Conclusions The right stellate ganglion block can improve the spatial learning and memory dysfunction of rats with sleep deprivation, and the underlying mechanism may be related to alleviating the apoptosis and inflammation of hippocampus of rats with sleep deprivation.

The objective of this study was to describe prehospital delay and health beliefs in Chinese patients with colorectal cancer. A total of 756 adult Chinese patients with a first-time diagnosis of colorectal cancer were recruited during 2016 in Guangzhou, China. All patients completed the Chinese-language version of a questionnaire developed specifically for this study as well as the Chinese-language version of the Champion Health Belief Model Scale. The results of this study showed that the median length of the prehospital delay was 12 weeks and that the average delay was 18.29 (SD = 14.66) weeks. The rate of prehospital delay was 47.35%. The score of health beliefs among these patients was 115.56 (SD = 9.00) and the average score of the entries was 3.21 (SD = 0.25). Health beliefs about colorectal cancer were negatively correlated with prehospital delay. A multiple logistic regression showed that the level of health beliefs, frequency of physical examinations, occupation, and the site of the cancer were the major factors influencing prehospital delay (p < .05). The patients had a low rate of physical examination (41.40%), and colorectal cancer screening was not routine prior to their physical examination. This study showed that the incidence of prehospital delay among Chinese patients with colorectal cancer was 47.35%. Multiple factors influenced prehospital delay among Chinese patients with colorectal cancer.

Coronary microembolization (CME) substantially reduces the clinical benefits of myocardial reperfusion therapy. Autophagy and apoptosis participate in the pathophysiological processes of almost all cardiovascular diseases, including CME-induced myocardial injury, but the precise underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In the present study, we observed that Egr-1 expression was substantially increased after CME modeling. Inhibition of Egr-1 expression through the targeted delivery of rAAV9-Egr-1-shRNA improved cardiac function and reduced myocardial injury. The microinfarct size was also significantly smaller in the Egr-1 inhibitor group than in the CME group. These benefits were partially reversed by the autophagy inhibitor 3-MA. As shown in our previous study, autophagy in the myocardium was impaired after CME. Inhibition of Egr-1 expression in vivo restored the autophagy flux and reduced myocardial apoptosis, at least partially, by inhibiting the Egr-1/Bim/Beclin-1 pathway, as evidenced by the results of the western blot, RT-qPCR, and TUNEL staining. At the same time, TEM showed a dramatic increase in the number of typical autophagic vacuoles in the Egr-1 inhibitor group compared to the CME group. Based on these findings, the Egr-1/Bim/Beclin-1 pathway may be involved in CME-induced myocardial injury by regulating myocardial autophagy and apoptosis, and this pathway represents a potential therapeutic target in CME.

Dendritic cell-derived exosomes have been proven to be efficient adjuvant options for anti-tumor vaccines in cancer immunotherapy. However, their potency in atherosclerosis remains unclear. Here we summarize the association of microRNA-203-3p (miR-203-3p) with dendritic cell-derived exosomes and atherosclerosis. Firstly, dendritic cell-derived exosomes and bone marrow-derived macrophages were isolated, after which expression of miR-203-3p and cathepsin S was determined. After the establishment of atherosclerosis mouse models, gain- and loss-of-function experiments were conducted for the analysis of effects of miR-203-3p and cathepsin S on foam-cell formation, lipid accumulation, collagen deposition and serum total cholesterol. The results found high expression of cathepsin S in atherosclerosis mice and downregulation of miR-203-3p in the serum of atherosclerosis patients and ox-LDL-simulated bone marrow-derived macrophages. Cathepsin S was the target gene of miR-203-3p. miR-203-3p transporting from exosomes to bone marrow-derived macrophages resulted in inhibition of cathepsin S expression and atherosclerosis-related phenotypes in bone marrow-derived macrophages, thus alleviating atherosclerosis in mice, and this process was found to involve the p38/MAPK signaling pathway. These findings provided evidence that the transfer of miR-203-3p by dendritic cell-derived exosomes targeted cathepsin S in bone marrow-derived macrophages to attenuate atherosclerosis progression in mice, serving as a promising clinical target for atherosclerosis.

Background/Aims: Coronary microembolization (CME) can lead to no-reflow or slow reflow, which is one of the important reasons for loss of clinical benefit from myocardial reperfusion therapy. MicroRNAs and autophagy are heavily implicated in the occurrence and development of almost all cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, the present study was designed to investigate the role of miR-30e-3p and autophagy in CME-induced myocardial injury rat model. Methods: Sixty rats were randomly divided into six groups: sham, CME 1h,3h,6h,9h, and 12h (n = 10 per group). Our CME rat model was created by injecting polyethylene microspheres (42mm) into the left ventricle of the heart; the sham group was injected with same volume of normal saline. The cardiac function and serum cardiac troponin I (cTnI) level of each group was measured. HE staining and HBFP staining were used to evaluate the myocardial micro-infarction area of myocardium tissue samples. Then RT-qPCR and western blot were used to detect the expression of miR-30e-3p and, autophagy related protein LC3-II and p62, respectively. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) was used to identify autophagic vacuoles in tissue samples. Results: The cardiac function of the CME 6h,9h, and 12h groups were significantly decreased compared to the sham group (P < 0.05) and the cTnI level in each group were also significantly increased (P < 0.05). The expression of miR-30e-3p in the CME 6h, 9h and 12h group were decreased significantly compared with the sham group (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, the expression of autophagy related protein LC3-II decreased significantly and p62 increased significantly in the CME 9h and 12h group (P < 0.05). TEM images showed typical autophagic vacuoles for each of the CME groups. Conclusions: Myocardial miR-30e-3p is down regulated after CME and is accompanied by inhibited autophagy and decreased cardiac function. Therefore, miR-30e-3p may be involved in CME-induced cardiac dysfunction by regulating myocardial autophagy.

The family of Wnt proteins have been implicated in embryogenesis by regulation of cell fate and pattern formation, and also in human carcinogenesis. Wnt10B was previously shown to be involved in breast cancer development. The present study assessed the association of Wnt10B expression in human gastric cancer tissue specimens with clinicopathological data from these patients. Wnt10B expression in the regulation of gastric cancer cell proliferation and migration capacity in vitro was then investigated. The data revealed that Wnt10B mRNA and protein were upregulated in gastric cancer tissue samples and the upregulated Wnt10B mRNA was associated with gastric cancer metastasizing to lymph nodes. Knockdown of Wnt10B expression reduced gastric cancer cell proliferation and migration, as well as expression of a cell proliferation marker Ki67. Knockdown of Wnt10B expression inhibited tumor cell epithelial-mesenchymal transition by upregulation of E-cadherin and downregulation of N-cadherin. In addition, Wnt10B knockdown also suppressed tumor cell stemness by downregulation of octamer-binding transcription factor 4 and Nanog expression. The present data indicated that Wnt10B expression performs an important role in gastric cancer progression in vitro. Therefore, targeting of Wnt10B expression or activity may be investigated as a possible strategy for the control of gastric cancer.

Lynch syndrome (LS), an autosomal dominantly inherited disease previously known as hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC), leads to a high risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) as well as malignancy at certain sites including endometrium, ovary, stomach, and small bowel (Hampel et al., 2008; Lynch et al., 2009). Clinically, LS is considered the most common hereditary CRC-predisposing syndrome, accounting for about 3% of all CRC cases (Popat et al., 2005). LS is associated with mutations of DNA mismatch repair (MMR) genes such as MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, PMS2, and EPCAM (Ligtenberg et al., 2009; Lynch et al., 2009), which can trigger a high frequency of replication errors in both microsatellite regions and repetitive sequences in the coding regions of various cancer-related genes. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) tests followed by genetic analysis of these mutations play a significant role in diagnosis, treatment determination, and therapeutic response prediction of LS (Lynch et al., 2009; Alex et al., 2017; Ryan et al., 2017). Here, we report substitution of one base-pair in exon 1 of MLH3 (c.1397C>A) and a frameshift mutation in exon 19 of MLH1 (c.2250_2251ins AA) in a 43-year-old Chinese male with an LS pedigree.

Background To analyze expression profiles of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) and messenger RNA (mRNA) in patients with essential hypertension (EH) and normotensive adults. Methods The gene chip dataset GSE76845, which was generated from 5 plasma samples from patients with EH and 5 normotensives, was downloaded from the National Biotechnology Information Center Public Data Platform. Each sample (total RNA) was pooled from the total RNA of 3 age- and gender-matched subjects (EH patients or healthy controls). A ClusterProfiler package including gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was used to identify differentially expressed genes. The target microRNA and mRNA were predicted by microcode, microDB, microTarBase, and TargetScan databases. Finally, a competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNA) regulatory network was constructed. Results Compared with the healthy control adults, 191 differential lncRNAs (90 upregulated and 101 downregulated) and 1,187 differential mRNAs (533 upregulated and 654 downregulated) were identified in EH patients. GSEA analysis showed that 17 pathways, including ubiquinone and terpenoid-quinone biosynthesis, parathyroid hormone synthesis secretion and action, fatty acid metabolism, and steroid hormone biosynthesis are involved in hypertension. A ceRNA network consisting of 150 nodes and 488 interactive pairs was constructed. Conclusions lncRNA and mRNA profile analysis provides new insight into molecular mechanisms of EH pathogenesis and potential targets for therapeutic interventions.

Purpose To explore effect of goal-directed fluid therapy (GDFT) on early cognitive function in elderly patients with spinal stenosis. Methods 83 elderly patients with spinal stenosis were randomly classified into two groups: control group (n = 40) and GDFT group (n = 43). The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) score, IL-6 and S100β levels, hemodynamic parameters, cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO 2 ), arterial lactic acid values, output of surgery, operation time and cases of hypotension, intraoperative complications within 7 days were recorded for all patients. Results The incidence of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) was about 21.67% in this study. The MoCA scores, inflammatory mediators, perfusion indexes (rSO 2 and lactic acid)and intraoperative hemodynamics(HR, MAP, and CI)were not all the same at different time points ( P P P P P Conclusions GDFT can maintain the stability of perioperative hemodynamics in the prone position of elderly patients with spinal stenosis, improve the balance between perfusion of tissue and organ and supply and demand of oxygen, reduce the inflammatory response, and reduce the incidence of early POCD in this type of surgery.

Four new steroidal saponins, 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl(1→4)-β-D-fucopyranosyl -(25R)-spirost-5-en-3β,17α-diol (1), 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl(1→4)-β-D- fucopyranosyl-(25S)-spirost-5-en-3β,17α-diol (2), 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl(1→2) -β-D-glucopyranosyl(1→4)-β-D-fucopyranosyl-(25R)-spirost-5-en-3β,17α-diol (3), 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl(1→4)-β-D-fucopyranosyl-(25R/S)-spirost-5-en-3β,12β-diol (4), together with five known steroidal saponins were isolated from the ethanolic extract of the rhizome of Polygonatum sibiricum. Chemical structures of these compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic techniques. Anti-inflammatory activities of these new compounds were evaluated.

Purpose The current study was designed to describe the symptom distress and quality of life (QoL) in Chinese oesophageal cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy after radical oesophagectomy and to identify the factors that influenced symptom distress and the relationship between symptom distress and QoL. Methods The sample consisted of 102 oesophageal cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy after radical oesophagectomy. The patients completed the Chinese versions of the M.D. Anderson Symptom Inventory (MDASI, an instrument that measures symptom distress), the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), the Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire (MCMQ) and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Treatment-General (FACT-G, an instrument that measures QoL). Results The symptoms and symptom interference scores of the patients in the current research were 3.62 (SD 1.66) and 2.94 (SD 1.76), respectively. Occupation after illness, anxiety, types of surgery, whether chemotherapy was on schedule and confrontation coping strategies were factors that influenced symptom distress. There was a negative relationship between symptom distress and QoL scores. Conclusion Oesophageal cancer patients receiving chemotherapy suffer many limitations due to symptom distress and disruptions in their QoL. Oesophageal cancer patients should be assessed regularly and should be supported on an ongoing basis.

Cell membrane chromatography is a useful tool for screening active compounds from natural products. As the reason of separation mechanism, traditional cell membrane chromatography could not be used for screening the active compounds absorbed through the cell membrane and influencing the cell signal transduction pathway. In this work, we establish a new method named cell extraction combined with off-line HPLC for screening the compounds penetrating the cell membrane. This is the first time 3 T3-L1 adipocyte culture has been combined with HPLC technology. Compared with other cell membrane chromatography methods, there is good resolution and no further analysis by other chromatographic steps is required. On co-incubating crude extracts of Coptis chinensis with cells and analyzing the compounds extracted by the cells, active compounds such as berberine were detected. Glucose consumption tests showed that berberine could increase glucose consumption by insulin-resistant 3 T3-L1 adipocytes. The levels of intracellular berberine correlated with its activity. The results indicate that the developed method could be an alternative method for screening active compounds from natural products.

To explore the influence of self-efficacy and demographic, disease-related, and psychological factors on symptom distress among Chinese colorectal cancer patients receiving postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy.Two-hundred and fifty-two colorectal cancer patients who had undergone postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy completed Chinese versions of M. D. Anderson Symptom Inventory (MDASI-GI), Stanford Inventory of Cancer Patient Adjustment (SICPA), and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Associations between patients' self-efficacy and demographic, disease-related, psychological factors and symptom distress were examined.Patients' overall symptom distress level was mild; MDASI median subscale scores showed mild symptom severity and symptom interference. Anxiety and depression were positively associated with symptom distress. Multivariable analysis showed that more severe symptoms were associated with age ≥60 years, female gender, suburban residence, body mass index18.5, and stage III cancer. Age ≥60 years, female gender, marital status of single or divorced, and suburban residence were associated with greater symptom interference with daily activities. Greater self-efficacy was associated with milder symptoms severity and less symptom interference with daily life. After adjusting for confounders, patients with higher SICPA scores had less symptom distress.Self-efficacy is strongly associated with reduced symptom severity and symptom interference with daily life in CRC patients. Symptom severity is associated with age60 years, female gender, body mass index18.5, suburban residence and stage III disease. Nurse-administered self-efficacy interventions may help to improve self-efficacy and reduce symptom distress.

The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between the natriuretic peptide precursor B (NPPB) gene single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) c.-1298 G/T and pulse pressure (PP) of the Chinese Han population and the association between genotype and clinical indicators of hypertension. Peripheral blood was collected from 180 unrelated patients with hypertension and 540 healthy volunteers (control group), and DNA was extracted to amplify the 5'-flanking region and 2 exons of the NPPB gene by polymerase chain reaction; the fragment was sequenced after purification. The clinical data of all subjects were recorded, the distribution of the NPPB gene c.-1298 G/T polymorphism was determined, and differences in clinical indicators between the two groups were evaluated. The mean arterial pressure PP, and creatinine levels were significantly higher in the hypertension group than in the control group (P0.05), but no other clinical indicators differed between the groups. There were no significant differences in genotype frequency and distribution of the NPPB gene c.-1298 G/T polymorphism between the hypertension group and the control group (P0.05); in the control group, the mean PP of individuals with the SNP c.-1298 GG genotype was greater than that of individuals with the GT+TT genotype (P0.05). In conclusion, there was no significant correlation between the NPPB gene c.-1298 G/T polymorphism and the incidence of essential hypertension in the Han population; however, the PP of the SNP c.-1298 GG genotype was greater than that of the GT+TT genotype in the control group.

Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-tumor necrosis factor receptor 6 (TRAF6) signaling is activated in atherosclerosis (AS), inducing inflammatory mediators. Because miR-146a, a TLR4 microRNA (miRNA), can regulate TLR4 signaling during inflammatory responses, this study investigated the effects of aerobic exercise on TLR4-targeted miRNAs in AS. Apolipoprotein E-null mice fed a high-fat diet for 12 weeks were separated into 3 groups: (i) no treatment (AS), (ii) statin treatment (AD), or (iii) aerobic exercise (AE). Plaques and foam cells were observed in the untreated control and statin groups, respectively, but not in the AE group. The reactive power loss formulas of box-type transformer, main step-up transformer, wind farm collector line and connecting grid line are analyzed. Next the reactive power loss of transformer and transmission line is described in detail. Then put forward the loss reduction measures that installing SVC on the low voltage side of the main step-up transformer and making the doubly-fed wind generators send out some reactive power at an allowed power factor. Use the case of Gansu Qiaodong wind farm to verify the effectiveness of the proposed measures.

Recent studies have demonstrated that human leukocyte antigen G (HLA-G) may play an important role in autoimmune diseases. The present study is to investigate whether or not HLA-G is associated with sacroiliitis stages of ankylosing spondylitis (AS), a systemic autoimmune disease. Plasma levels of soluble HLA-G (sHLA-G) and HLA-G expression on the surface of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were measured in 55 AS patients and 49 healthy controls by using a specific HLA-G ELISA and flow cytometric (FCM) analysis, respectively. Sapium Sebiferum is a multiple functional tree with application in energy, pharmaceutics, materials and sightseeing. China is the source land of Sapium Sebiferum. In this paper, the potential of establishing a Sapium Sebiferum based bioenergy industry clusters was discussed. Among all, preparing green diesel (hydrocarbon fuel) from Sapium Sebiferum oil seed via microwave assisted pyrolysis process is the key technology. An ambitious project was described, also foreground of this bioenergy-ecosystem remediation plan was estimated.

The finite element analysis method was used to analyze the seismic response of two oil pipelines, which have corrosion defects and no defects correspondingly. The velocity, displacement and acceleration time history of the two pipelines and the contrastive analysis of the maximum stress of two pipelines were obtained. The results show that the displacement, velocity and acceleration of the pipeline with corrosion defects are larger than those of the pipeline without corrosion defects, the corrosion has great influence on the bottom of the pipeline, and the influence also has certain wide, the farther away from the corrosion, the smaller the influence is.

Nowadays human beings face the crisis and challenge of environmental pollution and energy shortage. The green treatment of low-quality biomass (such as wastewater, waste gas and solid waste), and development of microalgae biofuel are hot spots of pollution treatment and new energy development respectively. Base on the coupling system of microalgae cultivation by slurry (the product of anaerobic digestion of low-quality biomass) and biofuel production by microalgae, it is most likely to achieve an organic integration of the two hot spots, obtaining alternative liquid fuel and realizing slurry purification finally. In addition, there are added benefits can be obtained from the system, such as some high value-added products, animal feed, organic fertilizer, high-absorption materials, and so on. In this paper, combining the latest research advances of our research group, we made a brief analysis of the feasibility of microalgae cultivation by slurry, the characteristics of microalgae cultivation and lipid accumulation, the refining technologies of high calorific value fuel from microalgae, etc., and prospected the coupling system of low-quality biomass treatment and microalgae biofuel production.

Continuous extrusion foaming of CO2gas is an efficient method to produce microcellular. The CO2concentration in polymer melt is related to initial bubble morphology. Using video recording in this paper bubble interfacial morphology was studied when the gas was injected into polymer melt . The process of single bubble formation in the static and dynamic polymer melt includes three stages. Screw was more effective for gas breaking up and separating. When mixed in screw channel, and blent in the mixing segment, the dispersion, and diffusion rate of gas into polymer melt were increased largely.

Effects of acicular ferrite and retained austenite on the mechanical properties of bainite-base steels were investigated. Various morphology and volume fraction of constituent phases have been obtained by control of hot rolling conditions and alloy compositions. It has been shown that the steels containing retained austenite have better combinations of strength and ductility than the ones with no retained austenite. However, there is no noticeable change in DBTT by the incorporation of retained austenite in the microstructure since retained austenite exists as fine particles. On the other hand, DBTT of the steels are largely affected by the presence of acicular ferrite in the microstructure. EBSD analyses of fractured Charpy specimens show that cracks are deflected within the morphological packet of acicular ferrite, indicating its role in reducing the effective grain size of the steels.

Foaming of polystyrene (PS)/ supercritical dioxide system was studied in a batch process in order to achieve a better understanding of supercritical CO2 diffusion mechanism in polymer and foaming condition. In this study, PS sample was treated with CO2 at 5-30 MPa and 40-160°C, soaking times was about 30-120min.Using gravimetric method, the solubility of CO2 in PS was obtained. The study datum shows that the solubility of CO2 in PS increases with increment of pressures, but decreases with the increment of temperature. The sorbed amount of CO2 is from 0.02 % (7MPa,160°C) to 0.11%(30MPa,40°C).The relation of glass transition temperature, volume expansion ratio, cells density of foaming with pressure and temperature also was discussed individually. The glass transition temperature of PS swelled with CO2 is 80°C-95°C, which is lower than the glass transition temperature of pure PS by 10°C-25°C. The cell density increases as the pressure increase, and it decrease as the temperature increase.

Background Previous studies indicated that both red blood cell distribution width (RDW) and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were useful indices in assessing the disease activity of autoimmune diseases. However, the evidence for the association between RDW, NLR and dermatomyositis (DM) and polymyositis (PM) is limited. The aim of this study is to investigate the association between the disease activity of PM/DM and both RDW and NLR. Methods Medical records of 114 PM/DM patients and 114 healthy controls were retrospectively reviewed, and their RDW, NLR and myositis disease activity assessment visual analogue scale (MYOACT) on admission were extracted. The correlations between RDW, NLR and MYOACT were analyzed using the Spearman approach and multivariable model. Results PM/DM patients had significantly higher RDW and NLR. Increased RDW in PM/DM patients was not completely attributed to decreased hemoglobin or therapeutic agents. Both RDW and NLR are independently and positively correlated MYOACT. Conclusion Both RDW and NLR are useful indices in assessing the disease activity of PM/DM.
