Peripheral neuropathy (PN) identified as a significant contributor to disability in Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) patients. This study seeks to assess the utility of current perception threshold (CPT) measurements in evaluating PN in individuals with SCA3 and aims to identify factors influencing CPT values in SCA3 and ascertain whether these values correlate with the severity of ataxia. Ninety-four patients diagnosed with SCA3 and 44 healthy controls were recruited for this investigation. All participants were performed standard CPT assessments. Comparative analysis was conducted on CPT variables between the groups. Multivariable linear regression models were employed to identify potential risk factors influencing CPT values, and to investigate the association between CPT values and the severity of ataxia in SCA3. The case group exhibited significantly higher values across all CPT variables compared to the control group (P < 0.01). Peripheral neuropathy was prevalent among SCA3 patients, with lower limb nerves demonstrating greater susceptibility than upper limb nerves. Increasing age (β = 1.813, P = 0.012) and heightened ataxia severity (β = 3.763, P = 0.013) as predictors of poorer CPT values. Gender also emerged as a predictor of CPT values. Furthermore, CPT values (β = 0.003, P = 0.013) and disease duration (β = 0.118, P < 0.001) were associated with more severe ataxia. Our findings suggest that the CPT test holds promise for assessing peripheral neuropathy in SCA3 patients and that CPT values may serve as indicators of disease severity in this population., Competing Interests: Declarations. Background: Deficits in emotion recognition have been shown to be closely related to social-cognitive functioning in schizophrenic. This study aimed to investigate the event-related potential (ERP) characteristics of social perception in schizophrenia patients and to explore the neural mechanisms underlying these abnormal cognitive processes related to social perception., Methods: Participants included 33 schizophrenia patients and 35 healthy controls (HCs). All participants underwent electroencephalogram recording while completing the Emotion Intensity Recognition Task (EIRT). Behavioral data and ERP components were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance., Results: Schizophrenia patients had longer reaction times (RTs) to sad faces compared with disgusted faces, and had lower accuracy than the HCs. Additionally, schizophrenia patients had lower accuracy than the HCs for disgusted faces, surprised faces, angry faces, and fearful faces. Late Positive Potential (LPP) mean amplitudes of the HCs were larger than the schizophrenia patients for sad faces in the frontal lobe and central lobe. For happy faces, the HCs elicited larger LPP mean amplitudes than schizophrenia patients in the frontal lobe and central lobe. For surprised faces, the LPP mean amplitudes were higher in the HCs in the central lobe and parietal lobe than in schizophrenia patients. The HCs exhibited larger LPP mean amplitudes for angry faces in the frontal lobe, central lobe, and parietal lobe than in schizophrenia patients. For fearful faces, the HCs elicited a larger LPP mean amplitude than schizophrenia patients in the frontal lobe, central lobe, and parietal lobe., Conclusions: Schizophrenia patients present impaired social perception, and the observed ERP patterns provide valuable insights into the neural mechanisms underlying the EIRT results, highlighting the differences between HCs and schizophrenia patients. Background: Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) is a neurodegenerative disorder, with balance instability as a feature of the disease. Balance instability often manifests before the onset of obvious ataxic symptoms in patients. However, current clinical scales exhibit limited sensitivity in characterizing changes in pre-ataxic patients., Objectives: Our research aims to identify appropriate postural characteristics for tracking motor changes in pre-ataxic patients with SCA3 over time., Methods: The posturographic platform assessed 102 participants (34 pre-ataxic SCA3 patients, 34 ataxic patients with SCA3, and 34 healthy controls) to measure their postural balance. Multivariate comparative analyses assessed the differential postural characteristics across the three groups. The Taiwanese formula was employed to estimate the age of onset for pre-ataxic patients. A Spearman's rho test was employed to assess correlations between postural characteristics and the time manifestation for pre-ataxic patients., Results: Compared to the healthy control group, we observed significant abnormalities in the static posture of pre-ataxic patients (P < 0.01). Compared to the pre-ataxic group, ataxic patients have significant abnormalities in all variables (P < 0.05). The sway range standard deviation (SD), total sway area, and limits of stability were positively correlated with the estimated time to onset. The introduction of intermediate bands by hyperdoping is an efficient way to realize infrared light absorption of silicon. In this Letter, inert element (helium and argon for specific)-doped black silicon is obtained by helium ion-implantation followed by femtosecond pulse laser irradiation in an argon atmosphere based on near-intrinsic silicon substrates. Within the 200 nm of the silicon surface, the concentrations of helium and argon are both above the order of 10 19  cm -3 . The defect states related to impurities and structural defects contribute to the absorption in sub-bandgap (1100-2500 nm). Vertically structured devices based on the inert element-doped black silicon exhibit the responsivity of 350 mA/W for 1550 nm and 165 mA/W for 1310 nm at 12 V operating bias, respectively, proving its potential application in infrared detection.

Rice production is facing substantial threats from global warming associated with extreme temperatures. Here we report that modifying a heat stress-induced negative regulator, a negative regulator of thermotolerance 1 (NAT1), increases wax deposition and enhances thermotolerance in rice. We demonstrated that the C2H2 family transcription factor NAT1 directly inhibits bHLH110 expression, and bHLH110 directly promotes the expression of wax biosynthetic genes CER1/CER1L under heat stress conditions. In situ hybridization revealed that both NAT1 and bHLH110 are predominantly expressed in epidermal layers. By using gene-editing technology, we successfully mutated NAT1 to eliminate its inhibitory effects on wax biosynthesis and improved thermotolerance without yield penalty under normal temperature conditions. Field trials further confirmed the potential of NAT1-edited rice to increase seed-setting rate and grain yield. Closed-loop transformation of raw materials into high-value-added products is highly desired for the sustainable development of the society but is seldom achieved. Here, a low-cost, solvent-free and "zero-waste" mechanochemical protocol is reported for the large-scale preparation of cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). This process ensures full utilization of raw materials, effectively reduces water consumption, and simplifies the operating process. Benefiting from the synergistic effect between the cubic Prussian blue analogs (c-NFFHCF) and dehydrated polyanionic sulfates (m-NFS), the generated composite exhibits promising wide-temperature electrochemical performance and excellent practical application potential. The synergistic effect between m-NFS and c-NFFHCF in the composite is revealed through multiple in situ characterizations and density functional theory calculations. The proposed mechanochemical strategy can be scaled to a kilogram-grade level, providing a sustainable method for the value-added utilization of the by-products during Prussian blue analogs synthesis, advancing the design of "zero-waste" cathode materials for low-cost practical SIBs., (© 2025 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

To achieve non-carbon dioxide greenhouse gas emission reduction and control in municipal wastewater treatment plants （WWTPs）, this study conducted one-year long-term monitoring of nitrous oxide （N 2 O） in the anaerobic-anoxic-aerobic （A 2 O） process of a large-scale municipal wastewater treatment plant in Beijing. The experimental results showed that the anaerobic and anoxic zones of the A 2 O process could effectively remove dissolved N 2 O contained in the return sludge, while the aerobic zone was the main area for N 2 O generation and emission, and its generation pathway may have been dominated by ammonia oxidizing bacteria （AOB） denitrification. A significant difference was observed between winter and summer N 2 O production, and the difference in the average N 2 O release flux was up to 7.6 times, and the average monthly N 2 O emission in winter was 32.75 kg, which was significantly higher than that in summer （6.06 kg）. The accumulation of nitrite （NO 2 - -N） and the concentration of dissolved oxygen （DO） had a significant impact on N 2 O production. Therefore, to achieve N 2 O reduction in the A 2 O process, the concentration of NO 2 - -N in the aerobic zone should be controlled below 0.40 mg·L -1 in winter and 0.10 mg·L -1 in summer, while the DO concentration should be maintained above 1.2 mg·L -1 .

To assess the inherent effects of light-dark cycle on the aniline degradation and nitrogen removal in algal-bacterial symbiotic system, three groups with different photoperiods (0L:12D;6L:6D;12L:0D) were set up. The results revealed that the aniline degradation rate of the three systems all surpassed 99 %, the total nitrogen removal rate of Z2-6L:6D was approximately 36 % higher than Z1-0L:12D eventually, the Z1-0L:12D was restrained by NH 4 + -N assimilation and nitrification while anoxic denitrification in Z3-12L:0D. The disappearance of microalgae biomass was accompanied by the sharp decreased of polysaccharide in Z1 and longer illumination suppressed the secretion of extracellular polymeric substances, the Z3 yielded slightly superior biomass production despite the double illumination compared with Z2. Objective: To assess the effectiveness of perioperative nursing interventions in improving outcomes and satisfaction for patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery for ovarian endometriosis., Methods: From July 2021 to September 2022, 80 patients with endometriosis underwent laparoscopic surgery at Shijiazhuang Fourth Hospital and were randomly assigned to the conventional (n=40) and experimental (n=40) groups. During the perioperative period, patients in the conventional group received standard nursing interventions, while patients in the experimental group received comprehensive nursing interventions. The two groups were compared in terms of postoperative clinical indicators, self-rated anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rated depression scale (SDS) scores, nursing compliance, complications, and nursing satisfaction., Results: comprehensive nursing resulted in better postoperative clinical indices (time to get out of bed, hospital stay) versus routine nursing (all P < .001). The comprehensive nursing led to significantly lower SAS and SDS scores versus routine nursing. The nursing compliance of the patients in the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the patients in the conventional group (P < .001). Comprehensive nursing was associated with a significantly lower incidence of complications versus routine nursing (P < .001). Comprehensive nursing contributed to significantly higher nursing satisfaction versus routine nursing (P < .001)., Conclusion: Comprehensive perioperative nursing interventions for patients with ovarian endometriosis undergoing laparoscopic surgery considerably accelerate patient recovery and enhance nursing compliance, as well as minimize patient negative emotions and improve patient satisfaction with nursing.  The comprehensive approach addresses the specific needs of patients during the recovery period, minimizing postoperative complications, accelerating patient recovery, and improving overall quality of life. By integrating psychological support, tailored strategies for pain management, early mobilization, and prompt intervention for complications, this intervention sets a benchmark for holistic care in gynecological surgery.

Porphyrins-based porous organic polymers (POP) were widely used in photocatalytic oxidation under visible light owing to their superiority in the activation of oxygen. In contrast, the efficiency is usually limited due to the fast recombination and slow electron transfer. Herein, we report the use of a trioporphyrins-based covalent triazine framework (Por-CTF) as visible-light-active photocatalyst for the coupling oxidative of amines to imines at room temperature. By incorporating the π-conjugated porphyrin building block led to the enhanced electron transport between molecules, and the extended recombination time of excited electrons. The photocatalytic efficiency of Por-CTF is superior to that of polymer in absence of triazine framework (POP-TSP), which was prepared by radical polymerization using tetra-(4-vinylphenyl) porphyrin (TSP) as monomer. Por-CTF catalyst presented excellent efficiency for various primary amines and stability. The water chemical effects of copper have been a focus in the study of water quality criteria (WQC). Currently, multiple regression models are commonly used to quantitatively describe the impact of environmental factors on Cu toxicity in WQC studies. However, the influence of species-specific effects may consequently lead to poor prediction results of the regression models in practical application. For this issue, a backpropagation neural network (BPNN) model optimized using a genetic algorithm was developed in this study. The results showed when pooled data of given taxonomic groups were used, the BPNN mixed models had higher Adj.R 2 for five out of seven groups in the predicted toxicity values compared to the MNLR mixed models. When using species-specific models, the BPNN model still showed higher predictive performance. Further comparison of the two models for the species M. galloprovincialis revealed that, in addition to the good predictive performance of the BPNN models, the pre-set species codes of different species in the taxonomic group for the BPNN mixed model also reduced the impact of species-specific effects among species. Finally, the WQCs under different water quality parameter ranges were obtained using predicted toxicity values from mixed BPNN and MNLR models. The short-term WQC range for common water quality parameters (salinity: 25-30 ppt, DOC: 0.5-2.5 mg/L) obtained from the BPNN mixed model in natural marine environments was 1.6-4.41 μg/L, which aligns with guidance values provided by major global institutions, demonstrating the feasibility of applying the BPNN mixed model to WQC derivation. Objective: To evaluate the injuries of the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN), superior laryngeal nerve (SLN), and their innervated laryngeal muscles on the non-paralyzed sides in patients with idiopathic vocal cord paralysis (IVCP)., Methods: Eighty-four cases of patients with IVCP were evaluated using stroboscopic laryngoscopy, voice analysis, and laryngeal electromyography(LEMG). Concurrently, twenty-eight cases involving healthy volunteers without vocal cord paralysis were enrolled and examined using LEMG during the same period. Subsequently, comparisons of LEMG results were conducted between the paralyzed and non-paralyzed sides, and among the non-paralyzed sides.Furthermore, a comparison was conducted between the LEMG results of the non-paralyzed sides in patients with IVCP and the corresponding ipsilateral sides in healthy volunteers.These comparisons were stratified based on the side of paralysis and the duration of the disease course (less than 3 months versus more than 3 months) for IVCP patients., Results: Initially, the amplitude of the RLN, the action potential durations (APDs) and amplitude of the thyroarytenoid muscle (TM), and the amplitude of the posterior cricoarytenoid muscle (PCM) on the paralyzed side were significantly lower than those on the non-paralyzed side. Conversely, the latency of the RLN on the paralyzed side was significantly longer compared to the non-paralyzed side (P < 0.05). However, there were no significant differences in the latency and amplitude of the SLN, nor in the APD and amplitude of the CM between the paralyzed and non-paralyzed sides (P > 0.05). Furthermore, no significant differences were observed in the LEMG results of the non-paralyzed sides in IVCP patients, irrespective of the paralyzed side or the duration of the disease course (P > 0.05), and no significant differences of the LEMG results were observed when comparing the non-paralyzed sides of patients with IVCP to the ipsilateral sides of healthy volunteers (P > 0.05). However, when the disease course is less than 3 months, the amplitudes of the SLN and CM in the non-paralyzed side (right side) of left-sided IVCP patients are significantly lower than those in the non-paralyzed side (left side) of right-sided IVCP patients (SLN, 6.23 ± 4.42 mv vs. 10.21 ± 7.56 mv, t=-2.296, P = 0.028; CM, 0.49 ± 0.17 mv vs. 0.60 ± 0.19 mv, t=-2.207, P = 0.032), of which the amplitude of the CM is significantly reduced compared to the right side of healthy controls (0.49 ± 0.17 mv vs. 0.61 ± 0.21 mv, t=-2.423, P = 0.019), indicating that the SLN and CM on the non-paralyzed side are vulnerable to damage. Moreover, in patients with right-sided IVCP persisting for more than 3 months, there was a significant reduction in the amplitudes of the SLN and RLN, as well as the TM and PCM on the non-paralyzed side (left side), compared to the corresponding ipsilateral sides in healthy volunteers (P < 0.05). This observation indicates that the LEMG results for the non-paralyzed side in IVCP patients are not entirely normal, particularly in cases of right-sided IVCP with a disease duration exceeding three months., Conclusion: In patients with IVCP, it is imperative to conduct a simultaneous analysis of LEMG results from both the paralyzed and non-paralyzed sides after determining the affected side and the progression of the paralysis. The chemoselective [4+2] annulation/aromatization reactions between benzofuran-derived azadienes and N-Ts cyanamides are developed, affording a convenient method for synthesizing benzofuro[3,2-d]pyrimidin-2-amines under mild conditions. Herein, N-Ts cyanamides participated in reactions selectively via carbodiimide anion intermediates and the corresponding cyanamide anion intermediates derived products were not observed. Objective: To investigate the associations of the gut microbiota with reproductive system diseases, including female infertility, male infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), primary ovarian failure, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, uterine polyps, sexual dysfunction, orchitis, and epididymitis., Methods: A two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was performed to evaluate the potential causal relationship between the composition of gut microbiota and infertility, along with associated diseases., Results: Sixteen strong causal associations between gut microbes and reproductive system diseases were identified. Sixty-one causal associations between gut microbes and reproductive system diseases were determined. The genus Eubacterium hallii was a protective factor against premature ovarian failure and a pathogenic factor of endometriosis. The genus Erysipelatoclostridium was the pathogenic factor of many diseases, such as PCOS, endometriosis, epididymitis, and orchitis. The genus Intestinibacter is a pathogenic factor of male infertility and sexual dysfunction. The family Clostridiaceae 1 was a protective factor against uterine polyps and a pathogenic factor of orchitis and epididymitis. The results of reverse causal association analysis revealed that endometriosis, orchitis, and epididymitis all led to a decrease in the abundance of bifidobacteria and that female infertility-related diseases had a greater impact on gut microbes than male infertility-related diseases did., Conclusions: The findings from the MR analysis indicate that there is a bidirectional causal relationship between the gut microbiota and infertility as well as associated ailments. Compared with ovarian diseases, uterine diseases are more likely to lead to changes in women's gut microbiota. Deoxynivalenol (DON) is a toxic secondary metabolite produced by Fusarium spp. It is widely distributed among various cereals and has attracted much attention as a potential health threat to humans and domestic animals. However, the effects of DON on the reproductive systems of mammals are still ambiguous. In this study, the toxic effects of DON in the male reproduction of mice were investigated. The results showed that DON caused the shedding of sperm cells at all testis levels and the presence of inflammatory cells in the testicular interstitium. The rate of living sperm was significantly reduced, and the rate of sperm deformity was increased after DON exposure. The DON exposure resulted in decreased levels of testosterone (T) and increased levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) in the serum. Measurements of oxidative stress markers showed that DON induced oxidative stress in mice testis. Meanwhile, DON triggered the assembly of NLRP3-ASC-Caspase-1 inflammatory complex and pyroptosis in both mice testis and TM3 cells, further causing the activation of GSDMD, promoting the leakage of inflammatory cytokines, including IL-1β and IL-18. Notably, the inhibition of oxidative stress was found to protect pyroptosis in TM3 cells exposed to DON. We identified a novel mechanism of reproductive damage induced by DON, demonstrating the activation of the canonical Caspase-1-dependent pyroptosis pathway and clarifying the protection of antioxidation against pyroptosis damage. We recruited a healthy 44-year-old female and obtained her skin fibroblasts. Subsequently, the induced pluripotent stem cell line was successfully established using non-integrated reprogramming technology. The cell line had a normal karyotype and has been confirmed to have good pluripotency through the detection of pluripotency markers and detection of teratoma formation. It has been reported that CDK8 plays a key role in acute myeloid leukaemia. Here, a total of 40 compounds were rational designed and synthesised based on the previous SAR. Among them, compound 12 ( 3-(3-(furan-3-yl)-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-5-yl)benzamide ) showed the most potent inhibiting activity against CDK8 with an IC 50 value of 39.2 ± 6.3 nM and anti AML cell proliferation activity (molm-13 GC 50 = 0.02 ± 0.01  μ M, MV4-11 GC 50 = 0.03 ± 0.01  μ M). Mechanistic studies revealed that this compound 12 could inhibit the phosphorylation of STAT-1 and STAT-5. Importantly, compound 12 showed relative good bioavailability ( F  = 38.80%) and low toxicity in vivo . This study has great significance for the discovery of more efficient CDK8 inhibitors and the development of drugs for treating AML in the future.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) often exhibits a propensity for metastasis to lymph nodes (LNs), significantly influencing prognosis. Neck dissection (ND) is an important part in the treatment of OSCC. Variations in the preference for and pathways of lymph node metastasis (LNM) in different regions of the oral cavity have been observed. Currently, there is a lack of sufficient emphasis on the anatomical perspectives of LNM and ND. This review elucidates the lymphatic system of the maxillofacial regions from an anatomical standpoint, details the distribution of the sentinel LNs across different subsites, and summarizes the various classifications of the cervical LNs. Additionally, we elaborate on the methods used to study the lymphatic system, particularly imaging techniques. Furthermore, we investigate the pathways of cervical LNM and evaluate the efficacy of ND from an anatomical viewpoint. The overall objective of this review is to provide essential anatomical knowledge for managing LNs in OSCC, in the hope of providing patients with effective treatment modalities to enhance their quality of life., Competing Interests: Declarations. Introduction: Evidence of different smoking cessation interventions varies and has been assessed in many Cochrane reviews. We conducted an overview of these Cochrane reviews to summarize the effects of current interventions for smoking cessation., Methods: Nine databases were searched from their inception to October 2024, with no restrictions on language. Two authors independently extracted data from the same studies simultaneously, double checking after extraction. A second round of examination was conducted on all the extracted contents by another author. We employed a measurement tool to assess systematic reviews (AMSTAR-2) to evaluate the methodological rigor of the included systematic reviews (SRs), synthesized the GRADE results as reported, and conducted a narrative synthesis. The research protocol was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42023388884)., Results: Seventy-one Cochrane reviews involving 3022 trials were included in this comprehensive analysis. The two predominant smoking cessation interventions were pharmacotherapy (24 SRs) and non-pharmacological therapy (31SRs). Overall, the methodological quality of all the reviews was good. Compared with placebo, the point effect size for each Cochrane review on relative risk (RR) regarding pharmacotherapies for prolonged abstinence rate ranged from 1.11 to 3.34, demonstrating high- or moderate-certainty evidence; whereas for non-pharmacological therapies, it varied from 0.79 to 25.38, but substantial heterogeneity was observed in most meta-analysis (I2>50%). Halogenated volatile organic compounds (HVOCs) pose significant bioaccumulative and toxicological risks, necessitating effective strategies for their removal. Here, we show, through a computational study employing density functional theory and coupled cluster methods, the detailed mechanism and kinetic properties of Cl-initiated degradation reactions of 2-chloropropane (2-CP, (CH 3 ) 2 CHCl) and 2-methylpropanoyl halide ((CH 3 ) 2 CHCOX, X = Cl, Br, F). The reaction rate constants of all the channels were calculated by the canonical variational transition state theory (CVT) with the correction of the small curvature tunneling effect (SCT) at 200-1000 K. The subsequent transformation pathways of the major radical products of (CH 3 ) 2 CHCl and (CH 3 ) 2 CHCOCl in the presence of O 2 , NO, and HO 2 radical were investigated. The results elucidate the reaction pathways and rate constants, which are in excellent agreement with the experimental data at 296 K. We further explore the atmospheric implications of these reactions by assessing the atmospheric lifetime (τ) and ozone depletion potential (ODP). Additionally, we delve into the aquatic toxicity and bioaccumulation potential of the reactants and their transformation products. This study not only advances our knowledge of the atmospheric fate of halogenated hydrocarbons but also underscores the importance of considering the environmental and toxicological impacts in the development of HVOC mitigation strategies.

Background: Tuberculous meningitis (TBM) can lead to ophthalmic nerve palsy (ONP), a severe neurological complication. This study aims to evaluates the incidence and risk factors for ONP in TBM patients., Methods: This retrospective study included 250 TBM patients from the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center (2013-2022). Clinical and imaging data were analyzed, with logistic regression identifying risk factors for ONP., Results: ONP occurred in 6.8% (17/250) of TBM patients. Those with ONP had higher intracranial pressure (ICP) (257.69 ± 68.12 mmH2O vs 191.65 ± 91.58 mmH2O; P = 0.012), cerebrospinal fluid protein levels, and a higher prevalence of tuberculomas (29.4% vs 10.7%; P = 0.039). Logistic regression identified pre-treatment ICP, CD4 percentage, and tuberculomas as significant risk factors. Linezolid use was a protective factor for ONP recovery., Conclusions: Six point eight percent (17/250) of patients with TBM developed ONP as a complication. ICP, CD4 counts, and tuberculomas are key predictors. Background: Tandem Spinal Stenosis (TSS) is a disease characterised by the narrowing of the spinal canal in two or more non-adjacent areas of the spine, often affecting both the cervical and lumbar vertebrae. Doctors and patients increasingly favour non-surgical treatments that have the function of relieving symptoms and improving outcomes. This systematic review aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of non-surgical therapies for TSS and comprehensively summarise existing evidence., Methods and Analysis: We will conduct comprehensive searches, both manual and electronic, of literature published up to 30 September 2024; database searches will commence after the publication of this agreement, with an estimated commencement date of 1 December 2024, and the end date is 31 May 2025, without language restrictions. Key databases such as MEDLINE, PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, WHO International Clinical Trial Registration Platform, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Biomedical Literature Database, China Scientific Journal Database and Wan-Fang Database will be explored. In addition, we will include resources such as library journals and conference abstracts. Following the identification and screening of all randomised controlled trials focusing on non-surgical treatments for TSS, two investigators will perform a meta-analysis of the included studies. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the association of macular microcirculation with renal function and the feasibility of using macular microcirculatory parameters to monitor renal function in Chinese non-diabetic patients with hypertension., Methods: This case-control study included 62 non-diabetic patients with hypertension, including 31 with renal dysfunction (estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] <90 mL/min/1.73 m 2 ) and 31 with normal renal function (eGFR ≥90 mL/min/1.73 m 2 ). Age, sex and clinic blood pressure were matched between groups. Macular microcirculatory parameters of 124 eyes of the 62 patients were evaluated by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA)., Results: In comparison with the patients with normal renal function, patients with renal dysfunction had lower macular superficial parafovea vessel density (18.6 vs. 19.4%, P = 0.029), macular cube average thickness (273.0 vs. 280.2 µm, P = 0.003), and average ganglion cell layer and inner plexiform layer (GCL-IPL) thickness (79.5 vs. 82.8 µm, P = 0.006), but similar macular central fovea vessel density and central fovea thickness (P ≥ 0.54). After adjustment for confounders, eGFR was significantly associated with macular superficial parafovea vessel density, cube average thickness and GCL-IPL thickness (P < 0.02). In detecting renal dysfunction, areas under the curve were 0.61, 0.66 and 0.65 for macular superficial parafovea vessel density, cube average thickness and GCL-IPL thickness., Conclusion: In non-diabetic patients with hypertension, macular superficial parafovea vessel density, cube average thickness and GCL-IPL thickness were significantly worse in patients with renal dysfunction than those with normal renal function. Background: Aggressive primary gastrointestinal non-Hodgkin lymphoma (PGINHL) is an uncommon and heterogeneous group of lymphoid malignancies, that differs from indolent lymphoma and has a high incidence of severe gastrointestinal complications (GICs)., Aim: To investigate and compare the clinicopathological characteristics, treatments and outcomes in the GICs and No-GICs group with aggressive PGINHL., Methods: This retrospective analysis was performed on aggressive PGINHL patients between January 2013 and December 2021 at our hospital. The independent influence factors of GICs were obtained by univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analysis, the selected variables significantly related to GICs were selected as the final predictors to construct nomogram. Kaplan-Meier curves further analyzed the survival of patients in GICs and No-GICs groups. Survival analysis of GICs group was performed using Cox regression., Results: We focused on 124 aggressive PGINHL cases, which had a relatively high incidence 48.4% (60/124 cases) of GICs, the most common histological type in GICs group was diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) ( n = 49, 81.7%). In the GICs group, small intestine was the most common anatomic site of lesion (43.3%), followed by large intestine (31.7%), and then stomach and esophagus (25.0%). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that the independent risk factors for GICs were the small intestine [odd ratio (OR) = 3.33; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.47-9.41; P = 0.009), aggressive B-cell (OR = 0.09; 95%CI: 0.01-0.83; P = 0.033), maximum tumor diameter (OR = 1.25; 95%CI: 1.07-1.47; P = 0.005), invaded deep serous layer (OR = 3.38; 95%CI: 1.24-9.19; P = 0.017). We developed a nomogram to predict risk of GICs in aggressive PGINHL patients based on independent risk factors. The value of area under curve calculated by receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.815, and calibration curve and decision curve analysis further indicated that the prediction effect was superior. The majority of patients with GICs were given combination therapy (chemotherapy combined with surgery or radiation). Event-free survival and overall survival in GICs group were no worse than those in the No-GICs group., Conclusion: The complication rate of GICs in patients with aggressive PGINHL was relatively high, particularly in PGI-DLBCL. The independent risk factors for GICs were the small intestine, PGI-TNKL, bulky tumor, and depth of invasion. In recent decades, global aquaculture has expanded rapidly, raising concerns about coastal environmental degradation due to unregulated or poorly regulated discharge of aquaculture tailwater. Despite the crucial role of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in biogeochemical processes and aquatic biodiversity, the influence of aquaculture type on the molecular characteristics of DOM remains largely unexplored. Herein, this study investigated the variations in chemical and spectroscopic properties as well as molecular characteristics and composition of DOM across different aquaculture types including crustacean, fish and shellfish. Our findings revealed notable differences in DOM quantities among different aquaculture types, with crustacean and fish aquaculture water containing higher DOM amount compared to shellfish aquaculture water. This disparity can be attributed to the more frequent formulated feeds of crustacean and fish in contrast to shellfish aquaculture. Furthermore, distinct differences were also observed in the characteristics and composition of DOM among the different aquaculture waters. Specifically, DOM in shellfish aquaculture water exhibited a higher abundance of unsaturated and reduced molecules as well as increased aromaticity compared to the other two aquaculture waters. Conversely, DOM from fish aquaculture water showed a greater contribution from terrestrial origin characterized by elevated levels of plant-based components such as lignin-like and tannin-like compounds. Interestingly, DOM from shellfish aquaculture water contained lower levels of microbial-derived components such as lipid-like and protein-like compounds, likely due to reduced microorganism populations resulting from lower nutrients availability and higher salinity. Objective: To analyze the temporal trends of the incidence rate of tuberculosis (TB) in Shaanxi Province and provide a reference for WHO to control the prevalence of TB effectively. Methods: Joinpoint regression was used to analyze the trend of the incidence rate of TB in Shaanxi Province from 2004 to 2022, and the seasonal autoregressive moving average model was used to forecast the incidence rate of TB in Shaanxi Province to 2030. Results: The incidence rate of TB in Shaanxi Province decreased from 90.896/100 000 in 2004 to 35.364/100 000 in 2022, showing a general downward trend (AAPC=-7.72%, P <0.001). From 2014 to 2019, the reduction trend slowed down (APC=-0.69%, P =0.814), of which the largest decline occurred from 2019 to 2022 (APC=-13.26%, P =0.010). The predicted incidence rate of TB in Shaanxi Province from 2020 to 2022 was higher than the reported incidence rate, with the expected incidence rate of 51.342/100 000 in 2022 and 43.468/100 000 in 2030. Conclusion: The incidence rate of TB in Shaanxi Province shows a downward trend from 2004 to 2022, but the decline has shrunk in recent years. It is predicted that the downward trend will continue to slow down by 2030.

Oxidative stress is a primary contributor to cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (CI/R) injury, and the use of antioxidants represents a crucial therapeutic strategy for managing CI/R injury. This study aims to explore the antioxidant effects of benzyl ferulate on CI/R injury and elucidate its underlying mechanisms. In vivo models of CI/R injury and hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) injury in SH-SY5Y cells were established, followed by treatment with benzyl ferulate. The extent of oxidative stress was assessed through evaluations of neurobiological function, cerebral infarct volume, reactive oxygen species (ROS), apoptosis levels, etc. Results indicated that benzyl ferulate significantly downregulated the expression of NADPH oxidase 2 (NOX) 2/NOX4 while upregulating miRNAs (652/532/92b) in CI/R rats or SH-SY5Y cells. It also reduced total NOX enzyme activity, enhanced superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, decreased ROS and malondialdehyde (MDA) production, and inhibited cleaved caspase-3 and Bax expression-ultimately leading to reduced cell apoptosis. Benzyl ferulate effectively mitigates oxidative stress injuries of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) rats or SH-SY5Y cells subjected to H/R, and its mechanism appears to involve modulation of the miRNAs (652/532/92b)/NOX2/4 axis. Objective: To investigate the clinical features, pathogen composition, and prognosis of septic shock in pediatric intensive care units (PICU) in China. Methods: A multicenter retrospective cohort study. A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of children with septic shock from 10 hospitals in China between January 2018 and December 2021. The clinical features, pathogen composition, and outcomes were collected. Patients were categorized into malignant tumor and non-malignant tumor groups, as well as survival and mortality groups. T test, Mann Whitney U test or Chi square test were used respectively for comparing clinical characteristics and prognosis between 2 groups. Multiple Logistic regression was used to identify risk factors for mortality. Results: A total of 1 247 children with septic shock were included, with 748 males (59.9%) and the age of 3.1 (0.9, 8.8) years. The in-patient mortality rate was 23.2% (289 cases). The overall pathogen positive rate was 68.2% (851 cases), with 1 229 pathogens identified. Bacterial accounted for 61.4% (754 strains) and virus for 24.8% (305 strains). Among all bacterium, Gram negative bacteria constituted 64.2% (484 strains), with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter being the most common; Gram positive bacteria comprised 35.8% (270 strains), primarily Streptococcus and Staphylococcus species. Influenza virus (86 strains (28.2%)), Epstein-Barr virus (53 strains (17.4%)), and respiratory syncytial virus (46 strains (17.1%)) were the top three viruses. Children with malignant tumors were older and had higher pediatric risk of mortality (PRISM) Ⅲ score, paediatric sequential organ failure assessment (pSOFA) score (7.9 (4.3, 11.8) vs. 2.3 (0.8, 7.5) years old, 22 (16, 26) vs. 16 (10, 24) points, 10 (5, 14) vs. 8 (4, 12) points, Z =11.32, 0.87, 4.00, all P <0.05), and higher pathogen positive rate, and in-hospital mortality (77.7% (240/309) vs. 65.1% (611/938), 29.7% (92/309) vs. 21.0% (197/938), χ 2 =16.84, 10.04, both P <0.05) compared to the non-tumor group. In the death group, the score of PRISM Ⅲ, pSOFA (16 (22, 29) vs. 14 (10, 20) points, 8 (12, 15) vs. 6 (3, 9) points, Z =4.92, 11.88, both P <0.05) were all higher, and presence of neoplastic disease, positive rate of pathogen and proportion of invasive mechanical ventilation in death group were also all higher than those in survival group (29.7% (87/289) vs. 23.2% (222/958), 77.8% (225/289) vs. 65.4% (626/958), 73.7% (213/289) vs. 50.6% (485/958), χ 2 =5.72, 16.03, 49.98, all P <0.05). Multiple Logistic regression showed that PRISM Ⅲ, pSOFA, and malignant tumor were the independent risk factors for mortality ( OR =1.04, 1.09, 0.67, 95% CI 1.01-1.05, 1.04-1.12, 0.47-0.94, all P <0.05). Conclusions: Bacterial infection are predominant in pediatric septic shock, but viral infection are also significant. Children with malignancies are more severe and resource consumptive. The overall mortality rate for pediatric septic shock remains high, and mortality are associated with malignant tumor, PRISM Ⅲ and pSOFA scores.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, Graves' disease (GD) is called 'Ying Bing', which is a kind of goiter. Haizao Yuhu decoction, originated from the medical book of the Ming Dynasty 'Waikezhengzong', is a classic Chinese herbal formula for the treatment of 'Ying Bing' for more than 400 years. Pingkang granules, modified from the Chinese herbal formula Haizao Yuhu decoction specialized in GD, has shown effectiveness in several single-centre studies. However, high-quality clinical evidence for the management of GD using Pingkang granules remains insufficient., Aim of the Study: To obtain high-quality medical evidence for the treatment of GD with Pingkang granules through randomized controlled clinical trial., Materials and Methods: A multicentre, randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial was designed. A total of 186 patients with Graves' hyperthyroidism from five medical centers were randomly assigned to receive methimazole [MMI] and Pingkang granules placebo (group A), MMI and Pingkang granules (group B), or MMI placebo and Pingkang granules (group C) in a 1:1:1 ratio for 12 weeks. The primary clinical outcomes were serum free triiodothyronine (FT 3 ) and free thyroxine (FT 4 ) levels from baseline until the end of the research. Secondary clinical outcomes included serum thyrotrophin receptor antibody (TRAb) levels at 4- and 12-weeks post-intervention, thyroid volume, peak systolic velocity of the superior thyroid artery (STA-PSV), 39-item version of Thyroid-Related Patient-Reported Outcome (ThyPRO39) scores, and safety assessment included blood routine, liver and kidney function tests from baseline to the endpoint., Results: 150 patients were included in the full analysis set for efficacy analysis, including 48, 50, and 52 in groups A, B, and C, respectively. At the endpoint, three regimens significantly reduced serum FT 3 levels (group A, p=0.0027; group B, p < 0.0001; group C, p=0.0028) and FT 4 levels (group A, p < 0.0001; group B, p < 0.0001; group C, p < 0.0001), and the combination of MMI and Pingkang granules markedly reduced serum TRAb levels (p = 0.0014). The thyroid volume in group A was significantly larger than that at baseline at week 12 (p=0.0370), and there were no statistically significant differences in the thyroid volume among groups at week 4 (p=0.7485) and 12 (p=0.1333). STA-PSV values in group B were significantly higher than those in group A at week 4 (p=0.0409). The STA-PSV levels in groups A (p < 0.0001) and C (p=0.0025) were significantly lower than those at baseline at week 4, and STA-PSV levels in all groups were significantly lower than those at baseline at week 12 (group A, p=0.0095; group B, p=0.0138; group C, p=0.0423). Pingkang granule monotherapy significantly ameliorated symptoms related to hyperthyroidism (p < 0.0001), eye (p=0.0490), tiredness (p < 0.0001), cognition (p < 0.0001), depression (p=0.0478), and susceptibility (p=0.0052). Objective: To evaluate the clinical effect of a new three-phase Chinese medicine (CM) external treatment for acute lateral ankle ligament injuries., Methods: From July to December 2023, 64 patients with acute lateral ankle ligament injuries were randomly assigned to receive either the new three-phase CM external treatment combined with the POLICE(protect, optimal loading, ice, compression, elevation) treatment (observation group) or the POLICE treatment (control group), with 32 cases in each group. The observation group consisted of 17 males and 15 females, with an average age of(30.59±3.10) years old ranging from 25 to 36 years old, while the control group included 14 males and 18 females, with an average age of(30.03±3.19) years old ranging from 24 to 37 years old. Visual analogue scale (VAS) evaluation and Figure of 8 measurement were used to evaluate the degree of ankle joint pain and swelling of the subjects at the initial enrollment and after 1 week and sixth weeks of treatment. At the same time, the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) and Karlsson Ankle Function Score System were used to evaluate the improvement of ankle joint function in patients at all stages. MRI imaging was employed to observe the degree of biological healing of the anterior talofibular ligament, with the signal to noise ratio(SNR) indicating the level of healing. A lower SNR suggests better ligament healing, as it represents lower water content in the ligament., Results: All patients completed a 6-week follow-up. There was no significant difference in VAS, AOFAS score and Karlsson score between the two groups before treatment ( P >0.05). After 1 week and 6 weeks of treatment, the VAS, AOFAS score and Karlsson score of the two groups were significantly improved ( P <0.05). After 1 week of treatment, the VAS score of the observation group (3.21±0.87) was lower than that of the control group (4.21±1.50), and the difference was statistically significant ( P <0.05). After 1 weeks of treatment, the AOFAS and Karlsson scores [(50.84±4.70) points, (49.97±4.00) points] of the observation group were higher than those [(46.91±5.56) points, (46.66±5.36) points]of the control group ( P <0.05). MRI images showed that after 6 weeks of treatment, the SNR value of the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(SNR of the observation group was 75.25±16.59, the contral gruop was 85.81±15.55), ( P <0.05)., Conclusion: Compared with the control group, the new three-phase CM external treatment is significantly effective in reducing pain and swelling, enhancing ligament repair quality, and promoting functional recovery of the ankle joint in patients with acute lateral malleolar ligament injuries.

Aging is an intricate process involving interactions among multiple factors, which is one of the main risks for chronic diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD). As a member of cysteine protease, cathepsin S (CTSS) has been implicated in inflammation across various diseases. Here, we investigated the role of neuronal CTSS in aging and AD started by examining CTSS expression in hippocampus neurons of aging mice and identified a significant increase, which was negatively correlated with recognition abilities. Concurrently, we observed an elevation of CTSS concentration in the serum of elderly people. Transcriptome and fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) results revealed that CTSS overexpression in neurons aggravated brain inflammatory milieu with microglia activation to M1 pro-inflammatory phenotype, activation of chemokine C-X3-C-motif ligand 1 (CX3CL1)-chemokine C-X3-C-motif receptor 1 (CX3CR1) axis and janus kinase 2 (JAK2)-signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) pathway. As CX3CL1 is secreted by neurons and acts on the CX3CR1 in microglia, our results revealed for the first time the role of neuron CTSS in neuron-microglia "crosstalk." Besides, we observed elevated CTSS expression in multiple brain regions of AD patients, including the hippocampus. Utilizing CTSS selective inhibitor, LY3000328, rescued AD-related pathological features in APP/PS1 mice. We further noticed that neuronal CTSS overexpression increased cathepsin B (CTSB) activity, but decreased cathepsin L (CTSL) activity in microglia. Overall, we provide evidence that CTSS can be used as an aging biomarker and plays regulatory roles through modulating neuroinflammation and recognition in aging and AD process., (© 2024 The Author(s). Background: Interoception dysfunction has an important impact on the onset and development of major depressive disorder (MDD). Social support serves as a protective factor against MDD, and sociability also plays a significant role in this condition. These interconnected constructs-social support and sociability-play pivotal roles in MDD. However, no research on the mechanisms underlying the associations between social support and sociability, particularly the potential role of interoception, have been reported., Aim: To investigate the mediating effect of interoception between social support and social ability and to explore the independent role of social support in sociability., Methods: The participants included 292 patients with MDD and 257 healthy controls (HCs). The patient health questionnaire 9, the multidimensional assessment of interoception awareness, version 2 (MAIA-2), the social support rating scale (SSRS), and the Texas social behavior inventory (TSBI) were used to assess depression, interoception, social support, and sociability, respectively. A mediation analysis model for the eight dimensions of interoception (noticing, not distracting, not worrying, attention regulation, emotional awareness, self-regulation, body listening, and trust), social support, and sociability were established to evaluate the mediating effects., Results: A partial correlation analysis of eight dimensions of the MAIA-2, SSRS, and TSBI scores, with demographic data as control variables, revealed pairwise correlations between the SSRS score and both the MAIA-2 score and TSBI score. In the major depression (MD) group, the SSRS score had a positive direct effect on the TSBI score, while the scores for body listening, emotional awareness, self-regulation, and trust in the MAIA-2C had indirect effects on the TSBI score. In the HC group, the SSRS score had a positive direct effect on the TSBI score, and the scores for attention regulation, emotional awareness, self-regulation, and trust in the MAIA-2C had indirect effects on the TSBI score. The proportion of mediators in the MD group was lower than that in the HC group., Conclusion: Interoceptive awareness is a mediating factor in the association between social support and sociability in both HCs and depressed patients. Here we present the density functional theory-based exploration of layered IrO 2 polymorphs for the oxygen evolution reaction, as well as a data-driven geometric descriptor for catalytic activity. The layer edges are identified as promising active site motifs with not only low theoretical overpotential but also intriguing structural flexibility and to break the universal energetic scaling through torsional distortion.

Methamphetamine (METH) is a highly addictive psychostimulant that causes physical and psychological damage and immune system disorder, especially in the liver which contains a significant number of immune cells. Dopamine, a key neurotransmitter in METH addiction and immune regulation, plays a crucial role in this process. Here, we developed a chronic METH administration model and conducted single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to investigate the effect of METH on liver immune cells and the involvement of dopamine receptor D1 (DRD1). Our findings reveal that chronic exposure to METH induces immune cell identity shifts from IFITM3+ macrophage (Mac) and CCL5+ Mac to CD14+ Mac, as well as from FYN+CD4+ T effector (Teff), CD8+ T, and natural killer T (NKT) to FOS+CD4+ T and RORα+ group 2 innate lymphoid cell (ILC2), along with the suppression of multiple functional immune pathways. DRD1 is implicated in regulating certain pathways and identity shifts among the hepatic immune cells. Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) diseases are common clinical conditions. The number of patients with TMJ diseases is large, and the etiology, epidemiology, disease spectrum, and treatment of the disease remain controversial and unknown. To understand and master the current situation of the occurrence, development and prevention of TMJ diseases, as well as to identify the patterns in etiology, incidence, drug sensitivity, and prognosis is crucial for alleviating patients'suffering.This will facilitate in-depth medical research, effective disease prevention measures, and the formulation of corresponding health policies. Cohort construction and research has an irreplaceable role in precise disease prevention and significant improvement in diagnosis and treatment levels. Large-scale cohort studies are needed to explore the relationship between potential risk factors and outcomes of TMJ diseases, and to observe disease prognoses through long-term follw-ups. The consensus aims to establish a standard conceptual frame work for a cohort study on patients with TMJ disease while providing ideas for cohort data standards to this condition. TMJ disease cohort data consists of both common data standards applicable to all specific disease cohorts as well as disease-specific data standards. Common data were available for each specific disease cohort. By integrating different cohort research resources, standard problems or study variables can be unified. Long-term follow-up can be performed using consistent definitions and criteria across different projects for better core data collection. It is hoped that this consensus will be facilitate the development cohort studies of TMJ diseases.

Regulating the selective generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is a significant challenge in the field of photocatalytic oxidation, with successful approaches still being limited. Herein, we present a strategy to selectively generate singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) and superoxide radicals (O 2 •- ) by tuning the dimensionality of porphyrin-based covalent organic frameworks (COFs). The transformation of COFs from three-dimensional (3D) solids to two-dimensional (2D) sheets was achieved through the reversible protonation of the imine bond. Upon irradiation, both bulk and thin-layer COF-367 can transfer energy to O 2 to generate 1 O 2 . However, thin-layer COF-367 exhibited a superior performance compared to its bulk counterpart in activating O 2 to form the O 2 •- radicals via electron transfer. After excluding the influences of the band structure, O 2 adsorption energy, and frontier orbital composition attributed to the dimensionality of the COFs, it is reasonably speculated that the variance in ROS generation arises from the differential exposure ratios of the active surfaces, leading to distinct reaction pathways between the carrier and O 2 . This study is the first to explore the modulation mechanism of COF dimensionality on the activation of the O 2 pathway, underscoring the importance of considering COF dimensionality in photocatalytic reactions.

Background: Patients with oral cancer usually experience disfigurement and dysfunction which are shared risk factors of suicide. The aim of the study was to comprehensively assess the characteristics of suicide and risk factors for suicide in patients with oral cancer., Methods: Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database was used to acquire information of patients with common malignant tumors including oral cancer from 1975 to 2020. The aim was to explore the incidence of suicide, and timing of suicide among patients with oral cancer. A Fine-Gray competing risks regression model was employed to analyze risk factors associated with suicide among patients with various demographic and tumor characteristics., Results: Totally, 7685 patients with different malignant tumors committed suicide. Among them, 203 patients with oral cancer died due to suicide, presenting a suicide rate of 54.5/100,000 person-years, which was almost 3.5 times that of the US general population and 1.5 times that of the overall US patients with cancer in our study. Approximately 18 %, 40 %, and 55 % of suicides occurred in first year, first 3 years, and first 5 years after diagnosis. Being male, White race, and having a single primary tumor might be regarded as the risk factors for suicide., Conclusion: As oral cavity is closely associated with appearance, pronunciation and ingestion, patients with oral cancer have a significant high risk of suicide. Bacteria, especially drug-resistant strains, can quickly cause wound infections, leading to delayed healing and fatal risk in clinics. With the growing need for alternative antibacterial approaches that rely less on antibiotics or eliminate their use altogether, a novel antibacterial hydrogel named Ovtgel is developed. Ovtgel is formulated by chemically crosslinking thiol-modified ovotransferrin (Ovt), a member of the transferrin family found in egg white, with olefin-modified agarose through thiol-ene click chemistry. Ovt is designed to sequester ferric ions essential for bacterial survival and protect wound tissues from damages caused by the reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated in Fenton reactions. Experimental data have shown that Ovtgel significantly enhances wound healing by inhibiting bacterial growth and shielding tissues from ROS-induced harms. Unlike traditional antibiotics, Ovtgel targets essential trace elements required for bacterial survival in the host environment, preventing the development of drug resistance in pathogenic bacteria. Ovtgel exhibits excellent biocompatibility due to the homology of Ovt to mammalian transferrin. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), a noninvasive neuroregulatory technique used to treat neurodegenerative diseases, holds promise for spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) treatment, although its efficacy and mechanisms remain unclear. This study aims to observe the short-term impact of cerebellar rTMS on motor function in SCA3 patients and utilize resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (RS-fMRI) to assess potential therapeutic mechanisms. Twenty-two SCA3 patients were randomly assigned to receive actual rTMS (AC group, n = 11, three men and eight women; age 32-55 years) or sham rTMS (SH group, n = 11, three men and eight women; age 26-58 years). Both groups underwent cerebellar rTMS or sham rTMS daily for 15 days. The primary outcome measured was the ICARS scores and parameters for regional brain activity. Compared to baseline, ICARS scores decreased more significantly in the AC group than in the SH group after the 15-day intervention. Imaging indicators revealed increased Amplitude of Low Frequency Fluctuation (ALFF) values in the posterior cerebellar lobe and cerebellar tonsil following AC stimulation. This study suggests that rTMS enhances motor functions in SCA3 patients by modulating the excitability of specific brain regions and associated pathways, reinforcing the potential clinical utility of rTMS in SCA3 treatment.
