X-ray bursts are among the brightest stellar objects frequently observed in the sky by space-based telescopes. A type-I X-ray burst is understood as a violent thermonuclear explosion on the surface of a neutron star, accreting matter from a companion star in a binary system. The bursts are powered by a nuclear reaction sequence known as the rapid proton capture process (rp process), which involves hundreds of exotic neutron-deficient nuclides. At so-called waiting-point nuclides, the process stalls until a slower β+ decay enables a bypass. One of the handful of rp process waiting-point nuclides is 64Ge, which plays a decisive role in matter flow and therefore the produced X-ray flux. Here we report precision measurements of the masses of 63Ge, 64,65As and 66,67Se—the relevant nuclear masses around the waiting-point 64Ge—and use them as inputs for X-ray burst model calculations. We obtain the X-ray burst light curve to constrain the neutron-star compactness, and suggest that the distance to the X-ray burster GS 1826–24 needs to be increased by about 6.5% to match astronomical observations. The nucleosynthesis results affect the thermal structure of accreting neutron stars, which will subsequently modify the calculations of associated observables.

A novel technique for broadband high-precision mass measurements of short-lived exotic nuclides is reported. It is based on the isochronous mass spectrometry (IMS) and realizes simultaneous determinations of revolution time and velocity of short-lived stored ions at the cooler storage ring CSRe in Lanzhou. The new technique, named as the $B\rho$-defined IMS or $B\rho$-IMS, boosts the efficiency, sensitivity, and accuracy of mass measurements, and is applied here to measure masses of neutron-deficient $fp$-shell nuclides. In a single accelerator setting, masses of $^{46}$Cr, $^{50}$Fe and $^{54}$Ni are determined with relative uncertainties of (5~-~6)$\times10^{-8}$, thereby improving the input data for testing the unitarity of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix. To investigate the current prevalence of human soil-borne nematode infections in Yunnan province, so as to provide the scientific evidence for formulating the soil-borne nematodiasis control strategy in the province.In 2015, a total of 20 survey sites were sampled in 10 counties (cities) of Yunnan Province using the stratified cluster random sampling method. Stool samples were collected from all local permanent residents at ages of one year and older in each survey site, and the soil-borne nematode eggs were identified using the modified Kato-Katz technique and the egg number was counted. In addition, the hookworm species was identified using the filter-paperculture method, andA total of 5 067 residents received stool examinations, and 950 residents were detected with soil-borne nematode infections, with an overall prevalence rate of 18.75%. The prevalence ofThe prevalence of human soil-borne nematode infections remains high in Yunnan Province. The management of soil-borne nematodiasis requires to be reinforced among low-age children, farmers, old people and residents with low educations levels or ethnic groups.

By using isochronous mass spectrometry (IMS) at the experimental cooler storage ring CSRe, masses of short-lived $^{44}$Cr, $^{46}$Mn, $^{48}$Fe, $^{50}$Co and $^{52}$Ni were measured for the first time and the precision of the mass of $^{40}$Ti was improved by a factor of about 2. Relative precisions of $\delta m/m=(1-2)\times$10$^{-6}$ have been achieved. Details of the measurements and data analysis are described. The obtained masses are compared with the Atomic-Mass Evaluation 2016 (AME$^{\prime}$16) and with theoretical model predictions. The new mass data enable us to extract the higher order coefficients, $d$ and $e$, of the quartic form of the isobaric multiplet mass equation (IMME) for the $fp$-shell isospin quintets. Unexpectedly large $d$- and $e$-values for $A=44$ quintet are found. By re-visiting the previous experimental data on $\beta$-delayed protons from $^{44}$Cr decay, it is suggested that the observed anomaly could be due to the misidentification of the $T=2$, $J^\pi=0^{+}$ isobaric analog state (IAS) in $^{44}$V.

Masses of neutron-rich, odd-odd Pm, Eu, and Tb nuclei near $N=98$ were measured using the Canadian Penning Trap mass spectrometer at the Californium Rare Isotope Breeder Upgrade (CARIBU) facility. High-resolution mass measurements yielded the discovery of spin-trap isomers at $N=97$ in $^{162}\mathrm{Tb}$, and in the $N=99$ isotones of $^{160}\mathrm{Pm}$ and $^{164}\mathrm{Tb}$. Furthermore, no evidence of long-lived isomers were observed at $N=95$ in $^{158}\mathrm{Eu}$, at $N=97$ in $^{158}\mathrm{Pm}$, nor at $N=101$ in $^{164}\mathrm{Eu}$ and $^{166}\mathrm{Tb}$. These experimental observations are compared to results from multiquasiparticle blocking calculations.

The Isochronous Mass Spectrometry (IMS) based on storage rings is a powerful technique for mass measurement of short-lived exotic nuclei. The transition energy γ t of the storage ring is a vital parameter of the IMS technique. It is difficult to measure the γ t and its relation to momentum spread or circulating length, especially to monitor the variation of γ t during experiments. An experimental investigation on the γ t has been performed for the IMS experiment at the Cooler Storage Ring of the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL-CSRe). With the velocity measured by two time-of-flight (TOF) detectors, the γ t as a function of orbital length can be determined. The influences of higher order magnetic field components on the γ t function were inferred for isochronous correction. This paper introduces and investigates the influence of dipole magnetic fields, quadrupole magnetic fields and sextupole magnetic fields on the γ t function. With the quadrupole magnets and sextupole magnets corrections, a mass resolution of 171332 (FWHM) and σ ( T ) ∕ T = 1 . 34 × 1 0 − 6 were reached, which shall be compared with 31319 (FWHM) and σ ( T ) ∕ T = 7 . 35 × 1 0 − 6 obtained without correction.

The Isochronous Mass Spectrometry (IMS) is a powerful technique developed in heavy-ion storage rings for measuring masses of very short-lived exotic nuclei. The IMS is based on the isochronous setting of the ring. One of the main parameters of this setting is the transition energy γ t . It has been a challenge to determine the γ t and especially to monitor the variation of γ t during experiments. In this paper we introduce a method to measure the γ t online during IMS experiments by using the acquired experimental data. Furthermore, since the storage ring has (in our context) a relatively large momentum acceptance, the variation of the γ t across the ring acceptance is a source of systematic uncertainty of measured masses. With the installation of two time-of-flight (TOF) detectors, the velocity of each stored ion and its revolution time are simultaneously available for the analysis. These quantities enabled us to determine the γ t as a function of orbital length in the ring. The presented method is especially important for future IMS experiments planned at the new-generation storage ring facilities FAIR in Germany and HIAF in China.

Using isochronous mass spectrometry at the experimental storage ring CSRe in Lanzhou, the masses of $^{82}$Zr and $^{84}$Nb were measured for the first time with an uncertainty of $\sim 10$ keV, and the masses of $^{79}$Y, $^{81}$Zr, and $^{83}$Nb were re-determined with a higher precision. %The latter differ significantly from their literature values. The latter are significantly less bound than their literature values. Our new and accurate masses remove the irregularities of the mass surface in this region of the nuclear chart. Our results do not support the predicted island of pronounced low $\alpha$ separation energies for neutron-deficient Mo and Tc isotopes, making the formation of Zr-Nb cycle in the $rp$-process unlikely. The new proton separation energy of $^{83}$Nb was determined to be 490(400)~keV smaller than that in the Atomic Mass Evaluation 2012. This partly removes the overproduction of the $p$-nucleus $^{84}$Sr relative to the neutron-deficient molybdenum isotopes in the previous $\nu p$-process simulations.

The Spectrometer Ring (SRing) is an essential part of the High Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility project (HIAF) in China. It is designed as a multi-functional experimental storage ring, which will be able to operate in three ion optical operation modes. The SRing will be used as a time-of-flight mass spectrometer for short-lived, especially neutron-rich nuclei. It will also be used to collect and cool Rare Isotope Beams (RIBs) or highly-charged stable ion beams for nuclear and atomic physics experiments. The design magnetic rigidity is in the range 1.5 to 15 Tm. The beam cooling system consists of stochastic cooling and electron cooling devices. With a help of an electron cooler, stored ions will be decelerated to a minimum energy of 30 MeV/u by RF cavities. The extraction system of the SRing will allow cooled ion beams to be extracted to an external target for further ion manipulations or reaction experiments. The general ion optics design and technical requirements of SRing subsystems are presented and discussed in this paper.

Multi-recycling HTGR has been investigated by JAEA in order to reduce the environmental burden and non-proliferation of Pu. In the previous study, it is found that all actinoids except neptunium, which is not problematic from the viewpoint of toxicity and proliferation, can be recycled. However, the cycle length is slightly decreased compared with uranium fueled core due to the cumulated fertile TRU in the fuel composition. In the present study, Pu recycling HTGR is designed to incorporate with MA burning. As a result, the cycle length is increased by approximately 15% compared with TRU multi-recycling core, and if the MA burner can be achieved by IFR, the cost is decreased by 0.14 yen/kWh.

We report first precision mass measurements of the $1/2^-$ isomeric and $9/2^+$ ground states of $^{101}$In. The determined isomeric excitation energy continues a smooth trend of odd-$A$ indium isotopes up to the immediate vicinity of $N=50$ magic number. This trend can be confirmed by dedicated shell model calculations only if the neutron configuration mixing is considered. We find that the single particle energies are different for different states of the same isotope. The presented configuration-dependent shell evolution, type II shell evolution, in odd-$A$ nuclei is discussed for the first time. Our results will facilitate future studies of single-particle neutron states.

Recent researches have proved that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play an important role in tumorigenesis. In this research, lncRNA CCAT5 was explored to identify its role in the development of colorectal cancer (CRC).Real time-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was utilized to measure CCAT5 expression of CRC tissues. Besides, function assays including wound healing assay and transwell assay were conducted. Furthermore, RT-qPCR and Western blot assay were used to explore the underlying mechanism.By comparison with CCAT5 expression in adjacent tissues, the CCAT5 expression level was significantly higher in CRC samples. Moreover, after CCAT5 was downregulated, cell migration and cell invasion of CRC cells were suppressed. Besides, after knockdown of CCAT5, the mRNA and protein expression of STAT3 was repressed. Furthermore, it was found that STAT3 expression was positively correlated to CCAT5 expression in CRC tissues.Results suggest that CCAT5 could promote cell migration and invasion of CRC by upregulating STAT3, which may offer a potential therapeutic target in CRC.

To explore the correlation of the suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3) gene polymorphism with childhood asthma.A total of 204 asthma children (observation group) and 235 healthy children (control group) were enrolled. General clinical information of enrolled subjects was collected. Inflammatory factors and pulmonary function test indexes in each subject were examined. Moreover, the polymorphism of SOCS3 gene rs9914220 was detected with the TaqMan-MGB probe.Asthma children in the observation group exhibited higher levels of interleukin-4 (IL-4), IL-17, and IL-33 than those of the control group (p0.05). The forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), FEV1/forced vital capacity (FVC) ratio (%), peak expiratory flow (PEF), and FVC in the observation group were lower than those in the control group. However, the residual volume (RV), and RV/total lung capacity (TLC) ratio were higher in observation group than those in control group (p0.05). Distribution frequency of the genotypes varied a lot between the two groups (p0.05). However, we did not observe a significant difference in SOCS3 alleles between the two groups (p0.05). According to the analysis of the genetic model, there were differences in dominant and cumulative models between the two groups (p0.05), whereas the recessive model was not different between the two groups (p0.05).Levels of inflammatory factors and pulmonary functions help to effectively monitor the progression of childhood asthma, thus increasing the clinical diagnosis rate. The polymorphism of the SOCS3 gene rs9914220 site is correlated with the onset of childhood asthma.

In the isochronous mass spectrometry (IMS) performed at storage rings, masses of short-lived nuclides are determined through precision measurements of their mean revolution times. However, the distribution of revolution times could be seriously deteriorated by instabilities of the ring's magnetic fields. This becomes a significant obstacle for the particle identifications and mass determinations. A data analysis method is described in this paper which is able to largely remove the uncertainties caused by the magnetic field instabilities in the particle identifications and the mean revolution times. We show that this method is very effective for the IMS experiments even when the magnetic fields of a storage ring vary slowly up to a level of $\Delta B/B\sim 10^{-4}$., Comment: 11 pages, 13 figures

To detect receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand (RANKL) expressed on B10 cells in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and to evaluate the correlation between RANKL-producing B10 cells in RA and clinical features and laboratory parameters, trying to reveal the possible role of B10 cells in the pathogenesis of RA and the potential mechanism of impaired immunosuppressive capacities.25 RA patients and 20 healthy volunteers were enrolled. These RA patients did not received treatment with glucocorticoids, disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug and biologics during the recent half of a year. The levels of RANKL-producing B10 cells were measured by flow cytometry (FCM) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The correlation between the frequencies of RANKL-producing B10 cells in RA and clinical data, laboratory parameters were analyzed. The role of tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) and interleukin 1β (IL-1β) in inducing RANKL expression in B10 cells was evaluated by in vitro stimulation assay. Independent samples t test, Pearson and Spearman correlation were used for statistical analysis.B10 cells were capable of producing RANKL at a low level in health controls. The frequencies of RANKL-producing B10 cells were markedly higher in RA patients than in health controls (3.65%±1.59% vs. 2.25%±0.68%, P0.01). The frequencies of these cells correlated positively with RA tender joint counts, swollen joint counts and disease activity score in 28 joints (DAS28) (r=0.479, P=0.035; r=0.519, P=0.008; r=0.526, P=0.019). However, no correlation was found between these cells and RA patient age, disease duration, or the levels of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), rheumatoid factor (RF) and anti-citrullinated peptide antibody (ACPA). After in vitro stimulation by TNF-α, but not IL-1β, B10 cells isolated from healthy donors demonstrated fundamentally upregulated expression of RANKL.Our studies showed the frequencies of RANKL-producing B10 cells were markedly higher in RA patients, and their frequencies were positively correlated with RA tender joint counts, swollen joint counts and DAS28. These findings suggested that B10 cells might be involved in RA bone destruction.

Atomic masses of seven $T_z=-1$, $fp$-shell nuclei from $^{44}$V to $^{56}$Cu and two low-lying isomers, $^{44m}$V ($J^\pi=6^+$) and $^{52m}$Co ($J^\pi=2^+$), have been measured with relative precisions of $1-4\times 10^{-7}$ with Isochronous Mass Spectrometry (IMS) at CSRe. The masses of $^{56}$Cu, $^{52g,52m}$Co, and $^{44m}$V were measured for the first time in this experiment. The Mass Excesses ($ME^{\prime}$s) of $^{44}$V, $^{48}$Mn, $^{50}$Fe, and $^{54}$Ni are determined with an order of magnitude improved precision compared to the literature values. $^{52g,52m}$Co and $^{56}$Cu are found to be $370$~keV and $400$~keV more bound, respectively, while $^{44g,44m}$V are $\sim 300$~keV less bound than the extrapolations in the Atomic-Mass Evaluation 2012 (AME$^{\prime}$12). The masses of the four $T_z=-1/2$ nuclei $^{45}$V, $^{47}$Cr, $^{49}$Mn, and $^{51}$Fe are re-determined to be in agreement, within the experimental errors, with the recent JYFLTRAP measurements or with the previous IMS measurements in CSRe. Details of the measurements and data analysis are described, and the impact of the new $ME$ values on different aspects in nuclear structure are investigated and discussed.

Isochronous mass spectrometry has been applied in the storage ring CSRe to measure the masses of the $T_z=-3/2$ nuclei $^{27}$P and $^{29}$S. The new mass excess value $ME$($^{29}$S) $=-3094(13)$~keV is 66(52)~keV larger than the result of the previous $^{32}$S($^3$He,$^{6}$He)$^{29}$S reaction measurement in 1973 and a factor of 3.8 more precise. The new result for $^{29}$S, together with those of the $T=3/2$ isobaric analog states (IAS) in $^{29}$P, $^{29}$Si, and $^{29}$Al, fit well into the quadratic form of the Isobaric Multiplet Mass Equation IMME. The mass excess of $^{27}$P has been remeasured to be $ME(^{27}$P$)=-685(42)$ keV. By analyzing the linear and quadratic coefficients of the IMME in the $T_z=-3/2$ $sd$-shell nuclei, it was found that the ratio of the Coulomb radius parameters is $R\approx0.96$ and is nearly the same for all $T=3/2$ isospin multiplets. Such a nearly constant $R$-value, apparently valid for the entire light mass region with $A>9$, can be used to set stringent constraints on the isovector and isotensor components of the isospin non-conserving forces in theoretical calculations.

The Chebyshev expansion offers a numerically efficient and easy-implement algorithm for evaluating dynamic correlation functions using matrix product states (MPS). In this approach, each recursively generated Chebyshev vector is approximately represented by an MPS. However, the recurrence relations of Chebyshev polynomials are broken by the approximation, leading to an error which is accumulated with the increase of the order of expansion. Here we propose a reorthonormalization approach to remove this error introduced in the loss of orthogonality of the Chebyshev polynomials. Our approach, as illustrated by comparison with the exact results for the one-dimensional XY and Heisenberg models, improves significantly the accuracy in the calculation of dynamical correlation functions., 9 pages, 8 figures

The reaction between a thin film (126 nm) of Co and Si has been studied at 450 °C for 24 h under high vacuum conditions, in the presence of a FeZr barrier layer. Without a diffusion barrier layer between Co and Si, Co 2 Si forms at 350 °C as the initial phase while CoSi 2 forms at 550 °C. The FeZr barrier layer changed the flux of atoms arriving at the reaction interface. Co reacted with the Si from the substrate and formed a mixed layer of CoSi and CoSi 2 in the interlayer region. The use of the FeZr diffusion barrier has been demonstrated to lower the temperature formation of CoSi 2 to 450 °C. The reactions were characterised by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry, Auger electron spectroscopy depth profiling, X-ray diffraction using CoK α radiation and scanning electron microscopy.

Isochronous mass spectrometry was applied to measure isomeric yield ratios of fragmentation reaction products. This approach is complementary to conventional gamma-ray spectroscopy in particular for measuring yield ratios for long-lived isomeric states. Isomeric yield ratios for the high-spin I = 19/2 states in the mirror nuclei 53Fe and 53Co are measured to study angular momentum population following the projectile fragmentation of 78Kr at energies of 480A MeV on a beryllium target. The 19/2 state isomeric ratios of 53Fe produced from different projectiles in the literature have also been extracted as a function of mass number difference between projectile and fragment (mass loss). The results are compared to ABRABLA07 model calculations. The isomeric ratios of 53Fe produced using different projectiles suggest that the theory underestimates not only the previously reported dependence on the spin but also the dependence on the mass loss., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

Decay of the ${8}^{+}$ isomer in fully stripped ions $^{94}\mathrm{Ru}^{44+}$ is observed during its circulation in the experimental Cooler Storage Ring (CSRe) at the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL). The $^{94}\mathrm{Ru}^{44+}$ ions were produced via projectile fragmentation and stored in CSRe tuned into the isochronous ion-optical mode. The timing signals of the ions, passing through a time-of-flight detector, were consecutively registered and used to determine the variation of revolution time as a function of revolution number. A sudden change of the revolution time at a specific revolution was identified as a fingerprint of the $^{94}\mathrm{Ru}^{44+}$ isomer decay. The isomeric half-life was deduced to be 102(17) $\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{s}$, which agrees well with the theoretical expectation by blocking the internal conversion decay of the isomer. Our work proved the feasibility of studying decays of short-lived isomers in high atomic charge states using the isochronous mass spectrometry. In addition, $^{94m}\mathrm{Ru}^{44+}$ represents the shortest-lived nuclear state whose mass has ever been measured directly.

Vertical profiles of aerosol extinction coefficients were measured by a micro-pulse lidar at Naqu (31.5° N, 92.1° E; 4508 m a.m.s.l.), a meteorological station located on the central part of the Tibetan Plateau during summer 2011. Observations show a persistent maximum in aerosol extinction coefficients in the upper troposphere–lower stratosphere (UTLS). These aerosol layers were generally located at an altitude of 18–19 km a.m.s.l., 1–2 km higher than the tropopause, with broad layer depth ranging approximately 3–4 km and scattering ratio of 4–9. Daily averaged aerosol optical depths (AODs) of the enhanced aerosol layers in UTLS over the Tibetan Plateau varied from 0.007 to 0.030, in agreement with globally averaged levels of 0.018 ± 0.009 at 532 nm from previous observations, but the percentage contributions of the enhanced aerosol layers to the total AOD over the Tibetan Plateau are higher than those observed elsewhere. The aerosol layers in UTLS wore off gradually with the reducing intensity of the Asian monsoon over the Tibetan Plateau at the end of August. The eruption of Nabro volcano on 13 June 2011 is considered an important factor to explain the enhancement of tropopause aerosols observed this summer over the Tibetan Plateau.

Accuracy of nuclear mass measurements in storage rings depends critically on the accuracy with which the revolution times of stored ions can be obtained. In such experiments, micro-channel plates (MCP) are used as timing detectors. Due to large phase space of injected secondary beams, a large number of ions cannot be stored in the ring and is lost within the first few revolutions. However, these ions interact with the detector and can saturate the MCP and thus deteriorate its performance. In order to eliminate such effects, a fast, pulsed high-voltage power supply (PHVPS) has been employed which keeps the detector switched-off during the first few revolutions. The new detector setup was taken into operation at the Experimental Cooler-Storage-Ring CSRe in Lanzhou and resulted in a significant improvement of the detector amplitude and efficiency characteristics.

In isochronous mass spectrometry (IMS) established in heavy-ion storage rings the revolution times of the stored secondary ions should be independent of their velocity spread. However, this isochronous condition is fulfilled only in first order and in a small range of revolution times. To correct for the non-isochronicity an additional measure of the velocity or magnetic rigidity of each stored ion is required. For this purpose two new time-of-flight (TOF) detectors were installed in a straight section of the experimental Cooler Storage Ring CSRe in Lanzhou. The performance of the new time-of-flight (TOF) detectors, which is crucial for the achievable efficiencies and mass resolving power, was significantly improved. The time resolution of the TOF detector in offline tests was σ = 18.5 ± 2 ps . The detector setup was put into operation with a stable beam of 78Kr.

An Integrated structural and material topology optimization method considering optimal material orientation is presented based the on bi-direction evolutionary structural optimization (BESO) method. It is assumed that the macrostructure is composed of uniform cellular material but with different orientation. The homogenization method is used to calculate the effective material properties which builds a connection between material and structure. The continuous material orientation design variables and the discrete topology design variables are treated hierarchically in an iteration. The principal stress method is adopted and embedded to determine the optimal material orientation, meanwhile the topologies of the macrostructure and its material microstructure are concurrently optimized by using the BESO method. Numerical examples are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed optimization algorithm.

In order to control the cavitation generated by oily medium, the advantage of mechanical production brought by cavitation is better utilized, and the mechanical damage of parts caused by cavitation is avoided, it is concluded that the cavitation pressure of lubricating oil of oily medium. The pressure field, streamline diagram and cavitation phase diagram were obtained by Ansys Fluent numerical calculation of the oily medium in the flow field of expanding region, the analysis of the mechanism of cavitation. The test bench of cavitation jet is designed, and verified with the simulation results, the specific value of critical pressure of lubricating oil cavitation under different apertures is obtained, and collected cavitation images. The pressure field decreases from the pressure inlet to the outlet, the cavitation occurs in the vicinity of the low pressure zone and the high pressure zone. When the diameter of the jet hole becomes larger, the cavitation occurs more difficult. The lower the viscosity of the lubricating oil, the higher the temperature, the occurrence of cavitation requires higher pressure to stimulate.

The periodic time modulations, found recently in the two-body orbital electron capture (EC) decay of both, hydrogen-like 140Pr58+ and 142Pm60+ ions, with periods near to 7 s and amplitudes of about 20%, were re-investigated for the case of 142Pm60+ by using a 245 MHz resonator cavity with a much improved sensitivity and time resolution. We observed that the exponential EC decay is modulated with a period T = 7.11 ( 11 ) s , in accordance with a modulation period T = 7.12 ( 11 ) s as obtained from simultaneous observations with a capacitive pick-up, employed also in the previous experiments. The modulation amplitudes amount to a R = 0.107 ( 24 ) and a P = 0.134 ( 27 ) for the 245 MHz resonator and the capacitive pick-up, respectively. These new results corroborate for both detectors exactly our previous findings of modulation periods near to 7 s , though with distinctly smaller amplitudes. Also the three-body β + decays have been analyzed. For a supposed modulation period near to 7 s we found an amplitude a = 0.027 ( 27 ) , compatible with a = 0 and in agreement with the preliminary result a = 0.030 ( 30 ) of our previous experiment. These observations could point at weak interaction as origin of the observed 7 s -modulation of the EC decay. Furthermore, the data suggest that interference terms occur in the two-body EC decay, although the neutrinos are not directly observed.

Global warming will have direct impacts on regional water resources by accelerating the hydrological cycle. Hydrological simulation is an important approach to studying climate change impacts. In this paper, a snowmelt-based water balance model (SWBM) was used to simulate the effect of climate change on runoff in the Kuye River catchment of the Loess Plateau, China. Results indicated that the SWBM is suitable for simulating monthly discharge into arid catchments. The response of runoff in the Kuye River catchment to climate change is nonlinear, and runoff is more sensitive to changes in precipitation than to changes in temperature. The projections indicated that the Kuye River catchment would undergo more flooding in the 2020s, and global warming would probably shorten the main flood season in the catchment, with greater discharge occurring in August. Although projected changes in annual runoff are uncertain, the possibilities of regional water shortages and regional flooding are essential issues that need to be fully considered.

Land subsidence is presented in many factors in different areas with urbanization. Internal soil erosion, owing to pumping confined groundwater during the deep foundation pit construction, has contributed to land subsidence. Four governing equations are presented to describe the process of internal soil erosion based on the mathematical–physical model. The finite element computation results, based on practical deep foundation pit engineering consisted of 8 layers of soil of Shanghai area, demonstrate that internal soil erosion will cause the increment of land subsidence and deformation and is related to the hydraulic gradient and the characters of the soils.

Short-lived 46 Cr, 50 Fe and 54 Ni were studied by isochronous mass spectrometry at the HIRFL-CSR facility in Lanzhou. The measured precision mass excesses ( M E ) of 46 Cr, 50 Fe and 54 Ni are − 29471 ( 11 ) keV , − 34477 ( 6 ) keV and − 39278 ( 4 ) keV , respectively. The superallowed 0 + → 0 + β -decay Q values were derived to be Q EC ( Cr 46 ) = 7604 ( 11 ) keV , Q EC ( Fe 50 ) = 8150 ( 6 ) keV and Q EC ( Ni 54 ) = 8731 ( 4 ) keV . The values for 50 Fe and 54 Ni are by one order of magnitude more precise than the adopted literature values. By combining the existing half-lives and branching ratios, we obtained the corrected F t values to be F t ( Fe 50 ) = 3103 ( 70 ) s and F t ( Ni 54 ) = 3076 ( 50 ) s . The main contribution to the F t uncertainties is now due to β -decay branching ratios, still, more high-precision measurements of the half-lives, the masses, and especially the branching ratios are needed in order to satisfy the requirements for a stringent CVC test.
