Abstract

A temperature sensor based on photonic crystal fiber filled with liquid and silver nanowires using surface plasmon resonance is demonstrated both theoretically and experimentally in this paper. Numerical simulation shows that a blue shift is obtained when temperature increases, and the resonance wavelength and resonance intensity can be tuned effectively by adjusting the volume ratios of the liquid constituents. A large temperature range from 25°C to 60°C at different ratios is detected to investigate the sensor's performance, and the sensitivity -2.08 nm/°C with the figure of merit of 0.1572 is obtained by experiment. Moreover, with the all-fiber device with strong mechanical stability, it is easy to realize remote sensing by changing the downlead fiber length, which is promising for developing a high-sensitive, real-time, and distributed temperature sensor.

Abstract

选取102例慢性乙型肝炎患者，以超声引导下肝组织穿刺病理学结果为金标准，使用声触诊弹性成像（STE）技术检测肝弹性模量值（kPa），并选取4项血清纤维化指标评估肝纤维化程度，包括天冬氨酸转氨酶/血小板比值指数（APRI）、FIB-4、Forns指数、King’s评分。结果显示STE与肝纤维化分期的Spearman相关性及STE诊断各期肝纤维化的受试者工作特征曲线下面积均高于血清生物化学指标，STE较血清纤维化指标在评估肝纤维化方面更具优势，且检查无创实时、简便易行，值得推广。.

Abstract

目的 探讨血清游离轻链（sFLC）检测在免疫球蛋白轻链型心肌淀粉样变性（AL-CA）患者中的预后价值。 方法 回顾性分析2012年1月至2016年12月于北京朝阳医院确诊为AL-CA且有完整sFLC数据的30例患者，通过受试者工作特征（ROC）曲线及Mayo2012分期确定受累轻链与非受累轻链差值（dFLC）的界点并分组评估患者预后。 结果 30例AL-CA患者中位年龄57岁，男女比例21∶9。λ型淀粉样变22例（73.3%），累及肾脏者17例（56.7%）。30例AL-CA患者的中位dFLC为162.9（57.9~401.6）mg/L，高dFLC组的B型利钠肽（BNP）水平较低dFLC组高（3 966 ng/L对2 142 ng/L，P=0.005），中位生存时间缩短（15个月对47个月，P162.9 mg/L）组的死亡风险是低dFLC（dFLC≤162.9 mg/L）组的12.13（95% CI 2.98~49.30，P

Abstract

Resistive Plate Chambers have largely been used in High Energy Physics and Cosmic Ray research. In view of using this detector for calorimetry applications it is important to know the maximum measurable particle density, or its intrinsic linearity limit, which is tightly related to the dimension of the discharge region. In this paper we report the results of measurements performed at the Beam Test Facility (INFN National Laboratory of Frascati, Italy) where the intrinsic linearity of bakelite RPCs operated in streamer mode has been tested at different impinging particle densities.

Abstract

A good compromise between the resistive model and the PIC model is Aristotelian electrodynamics, which can include the back-reaction of the radiative photons onto particle motion and allow for a local dissipation where the force-free condition is violated. We study the dissipative pulsar magnetosphere with Aristotelian electrodynamics where particle acceleration is fully balanced by radiation. The expression for the current density is defined by introducing a pair multiplicity. The 3D structure of the pulsar magnetosphere is then presented by solving the time-dependent Maxwell equations using a pseudo-spectral algorithm. It is found that the dissipative magnetosphere approaches the force-free solution and the dissipative region is more restricted to the current sheet outside the light-cylinder (LC) as the pair multiplicity increases. The spatial extension of the dissipative region is self-consistently controlled by the pair multiplicity. C(sub 60) and C(sub70) molecules are studied in detail. A comparison study indicates that these molecules adsorbed on gold nanoparticles by one of their pentagonal faces gives experimental proof of molecule adsorption on metal surfaces.

Abstract

In 2011 ARGO-YBJ experiment has reported a work to study the absolute rigidity scale of the primary cosmic ray particles based on the Moon's shadow observation. Given the progress in high energy hadronic interaction models with LHC data, in cosmic ray chemical composition measurement and in experimental data accumulation, more updates can be researched. This paper aims to further disentangle the composition dependence in absolute-energy-scale calibration by using specific moon-shadow data which mainly is comprised of light component cosmic rays. Results show that, 17% energy scale error is estimated from 3 TeV to 50 TeV. To validate the performance of this technique, the light component cosmic ray spectrum in the same energy region is shown. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the function of long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) ENST00000434223 (Lnc ENST) in renal carcinoma, and to explore the potential molecular mechanism.Quantitative Real-Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to detect the expressions of lncRNA ENST00000434223 and Wnt/β-catenin pathway-related mRNAs in tissues and cells of renal cancer. Chi-square test was performed to figure out the relationship between lncRNA ENST00000434223 and clinic-pathologic features of renal cancer patients. Besides, si-NC, si-ENST00000434223, pcDNA-NC and pcDNA-ENST00000434223 were transfected into renal cancer cells. The proliferative ability, metastasis and invasiveness of cells were detected using Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) and transwell assay, respectively. Lastly, the activation of the Wnt/hygro-catenin signal transduction pathway was evaluated by TOP/FOP Wnt Luciferase reporter assay and Western blot.The expressions of Wnt2b and β-catenin were significantly increased in renal carcinoma, while E-cadherin was markedly down-regulated. Lowly expressed ENST00000434223 was involved in the poor prognosis of patients with renal cancer. In addition, down-regulating ENST00000434223 could enhance the viability, metastasis and invasiveness of renal cancer cells. However, overexpressing ENST00000434223 remarkably weakened the above cell functions. At the same time, interference or overexpression of ENST00000434223 could affect the expression level of proteins related to the Wnt/β-catenin signal pathway.LncRNA ENST00000434223 inhibits the progression of renal cancer through the Wnt/shell-catenin signal pathway.

Abstract

The hadronic interaction of cosmic rays with solar atmosphere can produce high energy gamma-rays. The gamma-ray luminosity is correlated both with the flux of primary cosmic rays and the intensity of the solar magnetic field. The gamma-rays below 200 GeV have been observed by Fermi without any evident energy cutoff. The bright gamma-ray flux above 100 GeV has been detected only during solar minimum. The only available data in the TeV range come from the HAWC observations, however, outside the solar minimum. The ARGO-YBJ data set has been used to search for sub-TeV/TeV gamma-rays from the Sun during the solar minimum from 2008 to 2010, the same time period covered by the Fermi data. A suitable model containing the Sun shadow, solar disk emission, and inverse-Compton emission has been developed, and the chi-square minimization method was used to quantitatively estimate the disk gamma-ray signal. The result shows that no significant gamma-ray signal is detected and upper limits to the gamma-ray flux at 0.3-7 TeV are set at the 95% confidence level. In the low energy range these limits are consistent with the extrapolation of the Fermi-LAT measurements taken during solar minimum and are compatible with a softening of the gamma-ray spectrum below 1 TeV. They also provide an experimental upper bound to any solar disk emission at TeV energies. Models of dark matter annihilation via long-lived mediators predicting gamma-ray fluxes >10-7 GeV cm-2 s-1 below 1 TeV are ruled out by the ARGO-YBJ limits.

Abstract

The effects of flame remelting on the microstructural features, mechanical properties and dry sliding wear properties of supersonic plasma sprayed NiCrBSi-30 wt-% Mo coating were evaluated. The modified microstructure of the flame remelted coating, such as reduction in micro-defects, decrease in line roughness, laminar architecture elimination and material homogenisation was obtained. The Vickers micro-hardness and elastic modulus measurement showed an enhancement for flame remelted coating. The main wear mechanism of the as-sprayed coating was adhesive/delaminative wear. While the main wear mechanism of the flame remelted coating was adhesive wear. The wear resistance of flame remelted coating surpassed that of the as-sprayed coating and was by far superior to the substrate.

Abstract

The setting up of the ARGO detector at the YangBaJing Cosmic Ray Laboratory (4300 m a.s.l., Tibet, P.R. China) has been completed during the last spring (2007). It consists of a central carpet made of 130 identical sub-units of 12 RPCs each (a "cluster"), covering a surface of about 5800 m2 with 93% active area, and a guard ring of 24 further clusters of the same type surrounding the central carpet with a lower sampling density. Signals are picked up by external electrodes of small size, thus allowing the sampling of EAS with high space-time granularity. Shower events are detected at a trigger rate of about 4 kHz. Events with a few particles detected by a single cluster are counted in scaler mode on a time base of 500 ms. The intrinsic modularity of the ARGO detector allowed us to collect data even during the setting-up period, using only the central carpet (or even part of it). Some preliminary results from the analysis of events collected in a few months of data taking are presented. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

20. Three-dimensional classification and zoning method of surrounding rock and its application based on big data geomechanical information

Abstract

The study aims to address some prominent problems of the existing classification methods of roadway surrounding rock, such as poor adaptability and applicability. For this purpose, using geomechanical information coupling with the three-dimensional (3D) geological modeling technology, a 3D classification and zoning method of surrounding rock is proposed on the basis of the big data geomechanical information database. This method can realize advanced prediction and evaluation analysis of rock mass quality in unexposed areas. The method first establishes an acquisition workflow of the big data geomechanical information based on the rock mass rating (RMR) and then forms a statistics technology of the big data geomechanical information and database sample based on borehole core data. Finally, it realizes the assignment of RMR for the unexposed areas by combining the 3D evaluation technology of 3DMine software and the supplemented information obtained from onsite geological survey. The 3D classification and zoning method is applied to the Jiama mine and compared with quality statistics obtained from an onsite survey. The results from the proposed model based on the borehole core database statistics are consistent with the onsite survey results. This indicates that the proposed method has excellent feasibility and applicability to solve some of the problems with the existing methods. In addition, the 3D classification and zoning method realizes extra mechanical application for borehole cores except for geological exploration and improves the application extent of borehole cores from multiple angles.

The ARGO-YBJ experiment has been in stable data taking from November 2007 till February 2013 at the YangBaJing Cosmic Ray Observatory (4300 m a.s.l.). The detector consists of a single layer of Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) (6700 m2) operated in streamer mode. The signal pick-up is obtained by means of strips facing one side of the gas volume. The digital readout of the signals, while allows a high space–time resolution in the shower front reconstruction, limits the measurable energy to a few hundred TeV. In order to fully investigate the 1–10 PeV region, an analog readout has been implemented by instrumenting each RPC with two large size electrodes facing the other side of the gas volume. Since December 2009 the RPC charge readout has been in operation on the entire central carpet (∼5800 m2). In this configuration the detector is able to measure the particle density at the core position where it ranges from tens to many thousands of particles per m2. Thus ARGO-YBJ provides a highly detailed image of the charge component at the core of air showers. In this paper we describe the analog readout of RPCs in ARGO-YBJ and discuss both the performance of the system and the physical impact on the EAS measurements. Abstract

This paper reports on the observation of the sidereal large-scale anisotropy of cosmic rays using data collected by the ARGO-YBJ experiment over 5 years (2008-2012). This analysis extends previous work limited to the period from 2008 January to 2009 December, near the minimum of solar activity between cycles 23 and 24. With the new data sample, the period of solar cycle 24 from near minimum to maximum is investigated. A new method is used to improve the energy reconstruction, allowing us to cover a much wider energy range, from 4 to 520 TeV. Below 100 TeV, the anisotropy is dominated by two wide regions, the so-called “tail-in” and “loss-cone” features. At higher energies, a dramatic change of the morphology is confirmed. The yearly time dependence of the anisotropy is investigated. Finally, no noticeable variation of cosmic-ray anisotropy with solar activity is observed for a median energy of 7 TeV.

Abstract

The energy spectrum of cosmic Hydrogen and Helium nuclei has been measured, below the so-called "knee", by using a hybrid experiment with a wide field-of-view Cherenkov telescope and the Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) array of the ARGO-YBJ experiment at 4300 m above sea level. The Hydrogen and Helium nuclei have been well separated from other cosmic ray components by using a multi-parameter technique. A highly uniform energy resolution of about 25% is achieved throughout the whole energy range (100 TeV - 700 TeV). The observed energy spectrum is compatible with a single power law with index gamma=-2.63+/-0.06., Comment: To be published on Chinese Physics C

Abstract

The ARGO-YBJ experiment is an air shower detector for gamma ray astronomy and cosmic ray studies with an energy threshold of ∼500 GeV. Working in “single particle mode”, i.e. counting the single particles hitting the detector at fixed time intervals, ARGO-YBJ can monitor cosmic ray and gamma ray transients at energies of a few GeV. The single particle counting rate is modulated by the atmospheric pressure and temperature, and is affected by the local radioactivity from soil and air. Among the radioactive elements, radon gas is of particular importance since its concentration in air can vary significantly, according to environmental conditions. In this paper we evaluate the contribution of the radon daughter gamma ray emitters to the single particle counting rate measured by ARGO-YBJ. According to our analysis, the radon gas contribution is roughly 1–2%, producing a counting rate modulation of the same order of magnitude of the atmospheric effects.

The main scientific goals of the ARGO-YBJ ex- periment are -ray astronomy with a few hundreds GeV en- ergy threshold and cosmic ray physics below and around the knee of the primary energy spectrum (10 12 10 16 eV), where the transition from direct to indirect measurement techniques takes place. The ARGO-YBJ experiment, located at the Cos- mic Ray Observatory of Yangbajing (Tibet, P.R. of China, 4 300 m a.s.l.), is an unconventional Extensive Air Shower ar- ray of about 6,700 m 2 of active area, the only one exploiting the full-coverage technique at very high altitude currently in operation. The detector space-time granularity, performance and location offer a unique chance to make a detailed study of the structure of cosmic ray showers, in particular of the hadronic component. In this work we will focus on the main experimental results concerning cosmic ray and hadronic in- teraction physics: primary cosmic ray energy spectrum, an- tiproton over proton ratio, anisotropy in the cosmic ray flux and proton-air cross-section. Moreover, the possible data analysis improvements based on the use of all detailed infor- mation on the shower front (curvature, time width, rise time, ..), as well as the extension of the investigable energy range, allowed by the analog RPC readout, will be pointed out. nique at very high altitude presently in data taking. Location and detector features make ARGO-YBJ capable of investi- gating a wide range of fundamental issues in Cosmic Ray and Astroparticle Physics at relatively low energy threshold: - very high energy -ray astronomy, with an energy thresh- old of a few hundreds GeV; - search for emission of gamma ray bursts in the full GeV - TeV energy range; - study of cosmic rays (spectrum, composition, p/p ra- tio measurement, shower space-time structure, ...) starting at TeV energies; - Sun and heliosphere physics above Eth 1 GeV. In following sections, after a brief description of the detec- tor and its performance, the main results achieved on several items of cosmic ray physics will be presented and discussed.

28. Von Willebrand factor and ADAMTS13 plasma in older patients with high CHA2DS2-VASc Score with and without atrial fibrillation

Abstract

Ischemic stroke risk rises with the increasing cardiovascular risk factors in patients with and without AF. How atrial fibrillation (AF) incrementally contributes to the risk for ischemic stroke with increasing age and multiple cardiovascular risk factors is unclear. Von Willebrand factor (vWF) is a biomarker of endothelial dysfunction.We suggested that in older patients with high CHA2DS2-VASc Score, the vWF and ADAMTS13 would be comparable between patients with and without AF. Consecutive 196 old patients (≥ 60 years, 45.9% with concomitant AF) with and without non-valve atrial fibrillation were recruited from April 2014 to April 2016. Data on baseline clinical characteristics were recorded at study entry. Plasma ADAMTS13 levels and plasma vWF levels were determined. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS19.0 statistical software package.There were significant correlations between plasma vWf levels, ADMATS13 and CHA2DS2- VASc Score in older patients with and without AF (with AF: Spearman, r = 0.215, p0.05; without AF: Spearman, r = 0.197, p0.05). Results of research indices in our older patients were as follows: vWf 180. 79 ± 28.27 IU/dL in AF and 153.5 ± 35.54 in non AF with p0.001, ADAMTS13 431.5 ± 160.33 IU/dL in AF and 536.7 ± 169.96 in non AF with p0.05. Results of research indices in our older patients (≥ 75 year) were as follows: vWf 181.4 ± 22.04 in AF and 174.1 ± 29.45 in non AF, and ADMATS-13 412.9 ± 130.76 IU/dL in AF and 451.7 ± 153.18 in non AF. There were no differences (p0.05). CHA2DS2-VASc Score can predict stroke risk in old patients without atrial fibrillation. At high CHA2DS2-VASc Score, the levels of vWF and ADAMTS13 have difference in old patients (60-74) with and without AF, but in such older patients, age (≥ 75 year), there were no differences. In elderly patients, atrial fibrillation has a limited effect on VWF, and the age is an important factor affecting the endothelial function.For elderly patients with a high incidence rate of stroke and thrombosis, we should pay more attention to the thrombotic events, and atrial fibrillation can be used as one of the risk factors involved and improving the risk scoring system of stroke.

Abstract

Following the completion of the 5700m 2 RPC carpet-like AS array at YangBaJing this year, a further plan based on the ARGO Carpet is raised. It characterizes with its high altitude site, its full-coverage detector array and the multi-parameter measurements. Apart from studies on TeV and sub-TeV energy range, UHE Gamma-ray sources and the Knee Physics will become its characteristic subjects. In the first phase of the plan, the Yangbajing Super Complex Array (YSCA) will include a 10 4 m 2 RPC Carpet, five indoor μ -detectors (∼170 m 2 each), four big outdoor μ -detectors (∼432 m 2 each) and a traditional field scintillation detector array surrounding the Carpet. Monte-Carlo study shows that, with such an array in YBJ (4300m a.s.l.), γ -ray induced air showers can be separated from proton induced air showers clearly using only the observed electron and μ data event by event. To assist the classification of UHE air showers induced by different primary nuclei groups without severe interference by Composition/Model Entanglement, a second phase plan having a Central Burst Detector Array (CBDA) and some pulse shape detectors is schemed.

Abstract

ARGO-YBJ is a “full coverage” air shower detector consisting of Resistive Plate Chambers(RPCs) at the Yangbajing High Altitude Cosmic Ray Laboratory (Tibet, China) at 4300 m a.s.l. (lat=30.11° N, long=90.53° E). Using the data collected with a carpet of RPCs (1900 m 2 , about 1/3 of the whole ARGO-YBJ detector), the cosmic ray shadowing effect due to the Moon was studied. The 50% angular resolution is found to be ∼1.2° with the Chess-board method and the Moon shadow with a significance of 4.9 σ is found displaced by 0.7° westward and 0.5° northward with respect to the expected position by the equi-zenith angle Method.

Abstract

Based on the principle of density matrix and the finite element method, the interband optical absorption between the electron and hole has been investigated in a wurtzite [Formula: see text] spherical core–shell quantum dot (CSQD) including a strong built-in electric field (BEF). We have studied the effects of the size and the ternary mixed crystal on the optical absorption coefficients (ACs) and refraction index changes (RICs). The results indicate that the absorption peaks of ACs and RICs decrease rapidly, and show a redshift with the increase of the component [Formula: see text]. It is also found that the absorption peaks of ACs and RICs reduce obviously and depend on the core radius and the well width. When the core radius increases, the positions of the maximum ACs and RICs show a blueshift. At the same time, it presents a redshift when the well width increases. Particularly, the influence of the well width is much stronger than the core radius in the wurtzite [Formula: see text] spherical CSQDs. We hope that these results could provide guidance on both theoretical and experimental study related to the optical properties of spherical CSQDs.

Abstract

Background: Germline mutations in BRCA1, BRCA2 and other genes predispose to high risks of breast cancer. Genetic testing for germline mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 has been widely used in women with severe family history of breast or ovarian cancer in many western countries. However, in China, hereditary breast cancer associated genes and their mutation types remain unclear. So far, there's no recommended guidelines for high-risk populations. Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology has been proved to detect all classes of mutations cost-effectively. Here we describe the first study of germline mutations in 196 genes in Chinese breast cancer families using NGS. Methods: Breast cancer patients were consecutively enrolled at diagnosis in our hospital between 2011-2012. Inclusion criteria were as follows: Firstly, breast cancer patients are Shanghai natives; secondly, breast cancer patients aged 35 or younger had at least another family member with any type of cancer or those between 35 and 50 years had ≥2 family members with cancer on same side of family or those above 50 years had ≥3 family members with cancer on same side of family. A total of 196 genes were tested and they included two parts. One hundred and twenty-two genes selected were associated with 54 hereditary cancer syndromes and another 74 genes were cancer susceptibility genes proved by researches published on Pubmed up to 2012. Blood samples were collected and genomic DNA were subjected to targeted capture using the Agilent SureSelect DNA kit and sequencing of exons and flanking regions corresponding to 196 genes using the Illumina HiSeq 2000 platform. All classes of genomic alterations were detected. The study was approved by the Scientific and Ethical Committee of the Cancer Hospital of Fudan University. All participants provided informed consent. Results: Eighty-six breast cancer patients met our inclusion criteria were enrolled in our study. The 86 families totally harbored 456 cancers, mainly including 206(45.2%) breast cancers, 45(9.9%) colorectal carcinomas, 38(8.3%) lung cancers, 36(7.9%) gastric cancers, 28(6.1%) hepatic carcinomas and 17(3.7%) ovarian cancers. A total of 66 germline mutations were detected in 29 genes of 46 probands, including 18 BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations and one recurrent mutation in each gene, one novel TP53 mutations, one germline mutation in RAD50, PALB2, FANCD2, FANCI, RAD51C, SLX4/FANCP, etc. All of these genes were previously reported in hereditary breast cancer. Of women with germline mutations, the mean age at first primary breast cancer diagnosis was 39.6 y and 10(21.7%) of them had bilateral breast cancer. As for all genomic rearrangements, bioinformatics analysis is in process. Conclusion: This is the first study to report the spectrum of germline mutations in 196 hereditary cancer associated genes in Chinese familial breast cancer patients regardless of cancer types of family members. It will give us a reference for carrying out genetic counseling in Chinese breast cancer families. At the same time, NGS is an effective method to test many genes simultaneously at low cost. Abstract

The events recorded by ARGO-YBJ in more than five years of data collection have been analyzed to determine the diffuse gamma-ray emission in the Galactic plane at Galactic longitudes 25{\deg} < l < 100{\deg} and Galactic latitudes . The energy range covered by this analysis, from ~350 GeV to ~2 TeV, allows the connection of the region explored by Fermi with the multi-TeV measurements carried out by Milagro. Our analysis has been focused on two selected regions of the Galactic plane, i.e., 40{\deg} < l < 100{\deg} and 65{\deg} < l < 85{\deg} (the Cygnus region), where Milagro observed an excess with respect to the predictions of current models. Great care has been taken in order to mask the most intense gamma-ray sources, including the TeV counterpart of the Cygnus cocoon recently identified by ARGO-YBJ, and to remove residual contributions. The ARGO-YBJ results do not show any excess at sub-TeV energies corresponding to the excess found by Milagro, and are consistent with the predictions of the Fermi model for the diffuse Galactic emission. Abstract

The ARGO-YBJ experiment is a full coverage array of Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) with an active area of 5800 m 2 . In order to eliminate the response difference of the charge readout from the RPCs, a calibration procedure is carried out with the iso-gradient method. This method also allows the extension of the absolute calibration with the muon telescope including scintillation detectors to all the RPCs in the array. The overall systematic uncertainty in measurements o10.7%. In general, the method gives results consistent with those from a totally different approach also used in the experiment. 38. MODIS-based remote-sensing monitoring of the spatiotemporal patterns of China's grassland vegetation growth

Abstract

China has abundant grassland resources approximately 400 million ha of natural grasslands, which account for 41.7% of China's total area. Grasslands are an important base for boosting the development of China's livestock husbandry economy and maintaining China's ecological security. Using Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer MODIS remotely sensed data, this study developed a grassland vegetation growth index that ranked the magnitude of grassland vegetation growth indices across a wide variety of field experiments. This study applied the grassland vegetation growth index to conduct remote-sensing monitoring of the spatiotemporal status of China's grassland vegetation growth in 2008. We found that the vegetation growth of China's grassland was classified as ‘good’ in 2008. The areas of grassland with desirable vegetation growth accounted for 38.47% of China's monitored grassland areas, and the areas with less desirable vegetation growth accounted for 22.85%. Additionally, the good vegetation growth was stable within each 10 day study period in 2008. The vegetation growth reached a balance in early June. After early September, the proportion of grasslands with desirable vegetation growth declined, and the proportion of grasslands with balanced and less desirable growth increased. The regions with less desirable vegetation growth mainly included the middle and eastern regions of Inner Mongolia, the northern region of Xinjiang, and most parts of Heilongjiang. The regions with desirable vegetation growth were mainly distributed in the north of Tibet, the southwest of Qinghai, the west of Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Ningxia, Shanxi, and the northwest of Liaoning. The remote-sensing monitoring of the spatiotemporal patterns of China's grassland vegetation growth in the present study revealed the overall vegetation growth status of China's grassland on a broad scale. These findings could provide a helpful scientific basis for understanding China's grassland vegetation conditions and the management and regulation of grassland livestock husbandry.

39. [The effect and safety of tirofiban on acute ST segment elevation myocardial infarction patients receiving no early reperfusion therapy]

Abstract

To study the efficacy and safety of tirofiban on acute ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in patients who do not receive early reperfusion therapy.A total of 153 STEMI patients without early reperfusion therapy were randomly distributed into tirofiban group (therapeutic group, n=78) and non-tirofiban group (control group, n=75). Coronary angiography was performed on the 5(th) and 10(th) day after treatment, and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) was conducted when necessary. The differences of initial patency of the infarct related artery (IRA), bleeding complication and clinic events within 30 days between these two groups were compared.Tirofiban did not increase the percentage of patients with initial patency of IRA (60.3% vs 64.0%, P=0.63). The percentage of patients with thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) 3 after PCI was 100.0% in tirofiban group and 97.1% in the control group (P=0.09). However, application of tirofiban significantly decreased poor myocardial perfusion rate after PCI (1.4% vs 8.8%, P=0.04). No significant differences were observed in major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) (3.8% vs 2.7%, P=0.68) between therapeutic and control group. The same is true for mild (5/78 vs 4/75 cases, P=0.78) and severe hemorrhage (2/78 vs 1/75 cases, P=0.58), and severe thrombocytopenia (2/78 vs 0/75 cases, P=0.10) between these two groups within 30 days.Tirofiban did not increase initial patency in STEMI patients without early reperfusion therapy. However, it can improve myocardial perfusion after PCI.

Abstract

Bone metastasis is a common complication in prostate cancer patients that can cause bone pain and pathological fracture. This study tested serum levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), bone sialoprotein (BSP), collagen type I pyridine crosslinking peptide (ICTP) in prostate cancer patients and the significance of the receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve in the diagnosis of prostate cancer bone metastases. Eighty-three prostate cancer patients were enrolled including 42 in the bone metastases group and 41 in the non-bone metastases group. Serum levels of BSP, ALP, ICTP, and PSA were highest in the bone metastases group followed by the non-bone metastases group, hyperplasia group, and then the control group (P < 0.05). Based on Gleason score, serum levels were highest in the poorly differentiated group followed by moderately differentiated and well-differentiated groups (P < 0.05). ROC curve analysis revealed that the diagnostic efficiency of the biomarkers in turn was BSP, PSA, ICTP, and ALP. The sensitivity of BSP, ALP, ICTP, and PSA in the diagnosis of prostate cancer bone metastases were 80.95, 57.14, 69.05, 71.43%, respectively, and the specificity of the same markers were 72.80, 64.80, 76.80, and 88.80%, respectively. Combined detection of the four markers improved sensitivity to 97.62% and the negative-predictive value increased to 97.60%. PSA + BSP showed the best efficiency when combining two markers. In conclusion, serum levels of BSP, ALP, ICTP, and PSA increased in patients with bone metastases, and combined detection of all markers could improve the positive-predictive value.

Abstract

We report on a measurement of thermal neutrons, generated by the hadronic component of extensive air showers (EAS), by means of a small array of EN-detectors developed for the PRISMA project (PRImary Spectrum Measurement Array), novel devices based on a compound alloy of ZnS(Ag) and $^{6}$LiF. This array has been operated within the ARGO-YBJ experiment at the high altitude Cosmic Ray Observatory in Yangbajing (Tibet, 4300 m a.s.l.). Due to the tight correlation between the air shower hadrons and thermal neutrons, this technique can be envisaged as a simple way to estimate the number of high energy hadrons in EAS. Coincident events generated by primary cosmic rays of energies greater than 100 TeV have been selected and analyzed. The EN-detectors have been used to record simultaneously thermal neutrons and the air shower electromagnetic component. The density distributions of both components and the total number of thermal neutrons have been measured. The correlation of these data with the measurements carried out by ARGO-YBJ confirms the excellent performance of the EN-detector., 35 pages, 16 figures

Abstract

Recently, we reported that ethanolamine (EA)-functionalized poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) vectors (PGEAs) can produce good transfection efficiency, while exhibiting very low toxicity. Further improvement in degradability and transfection efficiency of the PGEA vectors will facilitate their application in gene therapy. Comb-shaped cationic copolymers have been of interest and importance as nonviral gene carriers. Herein, the degradable high-molecular-weight comb-shaped PGEA vectors (c-PGEAs) composed of the low-molecular-weight PGEA backbone and side chains were prepared by a combination of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and ring-opening reactions. The PGEA side chains were linked with the PGEA backbones via hydrolyzable ester bonds. Such comb-shaped c-PGEA vectors possessed the degradability, good pDNA condensation ability, low cytotoxicity, and good buffering capacity. More importantly, the comb-shaped c-PGEA vectors could enhance the gene expression levels. Moreover, the PGEA side chains of c-PGEA could also be copolymerized with some poly(poly(ethylene glycol)ethyl ether methacrylate) species to further improve the gene delivery system.

Abstract

To investigate the effects of atorvastatin combined with trimetazidine on periprocedural myocardial injury and serum inflammatory mediators in unstable angina pectoris (UAP) patients following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) treatment.90 patients with UAP treated with conventional medications and PCI were recruited and were randomly divided into the control group and the experimental group. The control group had 42 patients were treated with atorvastatin alone, while the experimental group had 48 cases treated with atorvastatin combined with trimetazidine. All the patients were checked the preoperative 24h and postoperative 24h PCI concentrations of cardiac troponin I (cTnI), hypersensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), serum interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and interlukin-10 (IL-10).At the pre-PCI stage, every serum factors was no significant difference. 24 hours after the PCI intervention, the occurence of abnormal cTnI level in the experimental group was remarkable reduced than the control group. In the experimental group, the serum levels of TNF-α and IFN-γ significantly decreased (p0.05); while IL-10 was increased. In the control group, all the mediators were increased significantly except the hs-CRP (p0.05).No unexpected symptom was found in patients with large dose atorvastatin combined with large dose trimetazidine. The administration of conventional medications together with the atorvastatin plus trimetazidine were able to reduce the prevalence of postoperative myocardial injury.

Abstract

We report on the search for Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) in the energy range 1-100 GeV in coincidence with the prompt emission detected by satellites using the Astrophysical Radiation with Ground-based Observatory at YangBaJing (ARGO-YBJ) air shower detector. Thanks to its mountain location (Yangbajing, Tibet, P.R. China, 4300 m a.s.l.), active surface (about 6700 m**2 of Resistive Plate Chambers), and large field of view (about 2 sr, limited only by the atmospheric absorption), the ARGO-YBJ air shower detector is particularly suitable for the detection of unpredictable and short duration events such as GRBs. The search is carried out using the "single particle technique", i.e. counting all the particles hitting the detector without measurement of the energy and arrival direction of the primary gamma rays. Between 2004 December 17 and 2009 April 7, 81 GRBs detected by satellites occurred within the field of view of ARGO-YBJ (zenith angle < 45 deg). It was possible to examine 62 of these for >1 GeV counterpart in the ARGO-YBJ data finding no statistically significant emission. With a lack of detected spectra in this energy range fluence upper limits are profitable, especially when the redshift is known and the correction for the extragalactic absorption can be considered. The obtained fluence upper limits reach values as low as 10**{-5} erg cm**{-2} in the 1-100 GeV energy region. Besides this individual search for a higher energy counterpart, a statistical study of the stack of all the GRBs both in time and in phase was made, looking for a common feature in the GRB high energy emission. Abstract

The observation of the extensive air showers has been carried out since 1990 by Tibet air-shower array to study the origin of the cosmic-rays. In order to investigate the chemical composition around the knee, air-shower core detector was used in two experimental phases aiming to separate light primary elements (proton and helium). In a first phase experiment made in 1996-1999, primary proton and helium spectra were measured using a hybrid detector consisted of Tibet II air-shower array, emulsion chambers, and burst detectors. The result indicated that the fraction of light elements among the all particle spectrum is less than 30%. We performed the second phase experiment in 2002-2005 to measure proton + helium together to confirm the previous result with higher statistics by improving the detection efficiency for the air-shower cores. The P + He spectrum was obtained in a good agreement with previous result by several times higher statistics. The flux of the light elements, together with the all-particle energy spectrum, indicates the dominance of nuclei heavier than helium in the energy range around the knee. We also present the outline of the next phase experiment, which is to measure the heavy elements around the knee, using low threshold air-shower core detector named YAC. (C) 2010 COSPAR.
