The impact of nuclear mass uncertainties on the \emph{r}-process abundances has been systematically studied with the classical \emph{r}-process model by varying the mass of every individual nucleus in the range of $\pm0.1$ to $\pm3.0\ \mathrm{MeV}$ based on six different mass models. A new quantitative relation between the uncertainties of \emph{r}-process abundances and those of the nuclear masses is extracted, i.e., a mass uncertainty of $\pm0.5\ \mathrm{MeV}$ would lead to an abundance uncertainty of a factor around 2.5. Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) can effectively reduce the portal venous pressure and relieve the clinical complications related to portal hypertension. However, hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is still the main complication post TIPS. Studies have shown that patients over 65 years old with liver function reserve in Child-Pugh grade C are the high-HE-risk group post TIPS, and early TIPS treatment can benefit the survival of these high-risk patients. In this study, TIPS was used to treat 60 cases aged65 years old and liver function reserve in Child-Pugh grade C (decompensated liver cirrhosis) with esophagogastric variceal bleeding. The clinical results of 1-year was observed and the porto systemic gradient (PSG) was evaluated. To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of human echinococcosis in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, so as to provide evidence for the development of the precision control strategy of human echinococcosis in the region.A sampling survey of human echinococcosis was conducted in 28 banners (counties, districts) of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from 2012 to 2017, and the epidemiological characteristics were descriptively analyzed.A total of 90 058 residents were examined for echinococcosis in 28 banners (counties, districts) of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from 2012 to 2017, and 71 patients were detected with echinococcosis, with a detection rate of 0.08%. No echinococcosis cases were identified in 8 banners (counties), and there were 6 banners (counties) with echinococcosis prevalence of 0.1% to 1%, and 14 with prevalence of 0 to 0.1%. The echinococcosis prevalence was significantly greater in women (0.11%) than in men (0.05%) (Human echinococcosis is widely, but lowly prevalent in Inner Mongolia Region, with a diverse density of infections. Echinococcosis has remarkable characteristics of regional and population clusters in Inner Mongolia Region, and the management of echinococcosis requires to be reinforced in key regions and populations.

To investigate the spatial distribution patterns and changing tendency of reported echinococcosis patients in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from 2013 to 2018, so as to provide the evidence for the management of echinococcosis in high-risk areas.All data pertaining to echinococcosis patients in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region were captured from the National Notifiable Communicable Disease Reporting System from 2013 to 2018 and analyzed using a spatial epidemiological method.The incidence of reported echinococcosis was 0.22 to 0.41 per 100 000 in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from 2013 to 2018, and the number of banner reporting echinococcosis patients increased from 24 in 2013 to 39 in 2018. The highly prevalent areas of echinococcosis were mainly concentrated in West Ujimqin Banner (the highest incidence, 19.23 per 100 000), East Ujimqin Banner (the highest incidence, 12.93 per 100 000) and New Barag Right Banner (the highest incidence, 11.66 per 100 000). Three-dimensional trend analysis showed that the areas with high incidence of reported echinococcosis were mainly located in central by eastern parts of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. There was a positive spatial autocorrelation in the number of echinococcosis patients, and the cases appeared a clustering distribution (Moran'sThe reported echinococcosis patients show a spatial aggregation in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and the hotspot areas are mainly concentrated in Xilingol League and Chifeng City, in which targeted control interventions for Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region are recommended to be intensified.

Plasma very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) can be used to select for low body fat or abdominal fat (AF) in broilers, but its correlation with AF is limited. We investigated whether any other biochemical indicator can be used in combination with VLDL for a better selective effect. Nineteen plasma biochemical indicators were measured in male chickens from the Northeast Agricultural University broiler lines divergently selected for AF content (NEAUHLF) in the fed state at 46 and 48 d of age. The average concentration of every parameter for the 2 d was used for statistical analysis. Levels of these 19 plasma biochemical parameters were compared between the lean and fat lines. The phenotypic correlations between these plasma biochemical indicators and AF traits were analyzed. Then, multiple linear regression models were constructed to select the best model used for selecting against AF content. and the heritabilities of plasma indicators contained in the best models were estimated. The results showed that 11 plasma biochemical indicators (triglycerides, total bile acid, total protein, globulin, albumin/globulin, aspartate transaminase, alanine transaminase, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, uric acid, creatinine, and VLDL) differed significantly between the lean and fat lines (P < 0.01), and correlated significantly with AF traits (P < 0.05). The best multiple linear regression models based on albumin/globulin, VLDL, triglycerides, globulin, total bile acid, and uric acid, had higher R2 (0.73) than the model based only on VLDL (0.21). The plasma parameters included in the best models had moderate heritability estimates (0.21 ≤ h2 ≤ 0.43). These results indicate that these multiple linear regression models can be used to select for lean broiler chickens.

With the random matrix theory, we decompose the multi-dimensional time series of complex financial systems into a set of orthogonal eigenmode functions, which are classified into the market mode, sector mode, and random mode. In particular, the localized motion generated by the business sectors, plays an important role in financial systems. Both the business sectors and their impact on the stock market are identified from the localized motion. We clarify that the localized motion induces different characteristics of the time correlations for the stock-market index and individual stocks. With a variation of a two-factor model, we reproduce the return-volatility correlations of the eigenmodes.

MicroRNA-1294 (miR-1294) was reported to act as a tumor suppressor in several cancers. However, the biological function of miR-1294 in osteosarcoma (OS) has not been investigated. We, therefore, investigated the clinical significance and underlying mechanisms of miR-1294 in OS.Quantitative Real-Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) was conducted to detect the levels of miR-1294. Targets of miR-1294 were validated by luciferase reporter assay and Western blot. In vitro functional assays were performed to investigate the effects of miR-217 on cell proliferation and invasion.We found miR-1294 was downregulated in OS tissues and cell lines. Downregulation of miR-1294 has a significant negative impact on the overall survival of OS patients. Overexpression of miR-1294 suppresses OS cell proliferation and invasion in vitro. Then, luciferase reporter assay validated Homeobox A9 (HOXA9) was a downstream target of miR-1294. Expression patterns of miR-1294 were inversely correlated with HOXA9 in OS tissues, strengthening the findings from the luciferase reporter assay. Further functional assays revealed that overexpression of HOXA9 could reverse the inhibition effects of miR-1294 on cell proliferation and invasion.These results suggested miR-1294 functions as a tumor suppressor in OS progression by targeting HOXA9.

To explore whether miR-216a-3p could promote differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) into type II alveolar epithelial cells (ACE II) via Wnt/β-catenin pathway, thereby alleviating neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS).BMMSCs were directionally differentiated into ACE II cells. Expressions of ACE II cell-specific transcription factors Occludin, KGF, CK18, SpA, SpB, and SpC were detected at the different time points after cell differentiation. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was applied to detect inflammatory factors in the culture medium, including interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-10 (IL-10), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and Interferon-α (INF-α). After overexpression or knockdown of miR-216a-3p in BMMSCs, expressions of ACE II cell-specific transcription factors and inflammatory factors were detected by quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blot. Rescue experiments were carried out after DKK-1 treatment in BMMSCs.Expressions of ACE II cell-specific transcription factors Occludin, KGF, CK18, SpA, SpB, and SpC were elevated with the prolongation of cell differentiation. Overexpression of miR-216a-3p elevated levels of pro-inflammatory factors (IL-1, TNF-α, and INF-α) and reduced anti-inflammatory factor (IL-10). Expressions of ACE II cell-specific transcription factors Occludin, KGF, CK18, SpA, SpB, and SpC were remarkably increased at 7 d and 14 d compared to those detected at 1 d. Overexpression of miR-216a-3p in BMMSCs downregulated Wnt3a expression. The regulatory effect of miR-216a-3p on BMMSCs differentiation was partially reversed by DKK-1 treatment.Knockdown of miR-216a-3p induces differentiation of BMMSCs into ACE II cells through Wnt/β-catenin pathway, thereby alleviating NRDS.

The melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) is a critical regulator of mammalian food intake and energy expenditure, with receptor activation resulting in decreased food intake and increased energy expenditure. Recently, studies on role of MC4R in regulation of food intake have been extended to other species, such as chicken. Functional study of mutant MC4Rs is important in proving the causal link between MC4R mutation and production traits. Herein, we cloned chicken MC4R (cMC4R) complementary DNA and generated 4 mutant cMC4Rs (Q18H, G21R, S76L, and L299P) by site-directed mutagenesis and measured their expression by flow cytometry. Pharmacologic characteristics were analyzed with binding and signaling assays using 3 agonists. We showed that G21R had decreased cell surface and total expression (P < 0.05), whereas the other 3 mutants had similar total and cell surface expression levels as wild-type cMC4R. The 4 mutants had either decreased (Q18H, G21R, S76L; P < 0.05) or no (L299P) binding to radiolabeled [Nle(4), D-Phe(7)]-α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH). In signaling assays, Q18H was constitutively active. Q18H, G21R, and S76L had decreased responses to α-MSH stimulation (P < 0.05). L299P had decreased basal and ligand-stimulated signaling (P < 0.01). Nle(4), D-Phe(7)-MSH was the most potent agonist for cMC4R and therefore would be better suited for further in vivo studies. We conclude that the cloned cMC4R was a functional receptor and provided detailed functional data for these mutations, contributing to a better understanding of cMC4R variants associated with production traits.

In humans, obesity is associated with increased or decreased levels of serum biochemical indicators. However, the relationship is not as well understood in chickens. Due to long-term intense selection for fast growth rate, modern broilers have the problem of excessive fat deposition, exhibiting biochemical or metabolic changes. In the current study, the Northeast Agricultural University broiler lines divergently selected for abdominal fat content (NEAUHLF) were used to identify differences in serum biochemical parameters between the 2 lines. A total of 18 serum biochemical indicators were investigated in the 16th, 17th, and 18th generation populations of NEAUHLF, and the genetic parameters of these serum biochemical indicators were estimated. After analyzing the data from these 3 generations together, the results showed that the levels of 16 of the tested serum biochemical parameters were significantly different between the lean and fat birds. In the fat birds, serum concentrations of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), HDL-C:low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), total bile acid, total protein, albumin, globulin, aspartate transaminase (AST):alanine transaminase (ALT), γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), uric acid, and creatinine were very significantly higher (P < 0.01), whereas LDL-C, albumin:globulin, glucose, AST, ALT, and free fatty acids concentrations in serum were very significantly lower than those in the lean birds (P < 0.01). Of these 16 serum biochemical parameters, 5 (LDL-C, HDL-C:LDL-C, total bile acid, albumin, and albumin:globulin) had high heritabilities (0.58 ≤ h2 ≤ 0.89), 6 (HDL-C, total protein, globulin, AST:ALT, GGT, and creatinine) had moderate heritabilities (0.29 ≤ h2 ≤ 0.48), and the remaining 5 had low heritabilities (h2 < 0.20). Serum HDL-C, HDL-C:LDL-C, and glucose had higher positive genetic correlation coefficients (rg) with abdominal fat traits (0.30 ≤ rg ≤ 0.80), whereas serum globulin, AST, and uric acid showed higher negative genetic correlations with abdominal fat traits (–0.62 ≤ rg ≤ –0.30). The remaining 10 serum biochemical parameters had lower genetic correlations with abdominal fat traits (–0.30 < rg < 0.30). In conclusion, we identified serum HDL-C and HDL-C:LDL-C levels as potential biomarkers for selection of lean birds. These findings will also be useful in future studies for investigating obesity and lipid metabolism in humans as well as in other animal species.

The kinematic viscosity, lubricity, acid number of 928 and 50-1-4Φ aviation lubrication oils are investigated in this paper. Oil samples were oxidized at 150 and 175°C for 120 h to evaluate their performance variation. The results suggest that 928 lubrication oil is easily oxidized and generates acidic products, which increase its acid number. The comparative analysis revealed that 928 lubrication oil tends to react in oxidizing atmosphere, which increases its viscosity, acid number, and weight-bearing performance. Meanwhile, wear scar diameters of both oxidized oil samples were found to be nearly the same.

Based on concepts and methods from statistical physics, we investigate extreme-volatility dynamics in the crude oil markets, using the high-frequency data from 2006 to 2010 and the daily data from 1986 to 2016. The dynamic relaxation of extreme volatilities is described by a power law, whose exponents usually depend on the magnitude of extreme volatilities. In particular, the relaxation before and after extreme volatilities is time-reversal symmetric at the high-frequency time scale, but time-reversal asymmetric at the daily time scale. This time-reversal asymmetry is mainly induced by exogenous events. However, the dynamic relaxation after exogenous events exhibits the same characteristics as that after endogenous events. An interacting herding model both with and without exogenous driving forces could qualitatively describe the extreme-volatility dynamics.

An investigation on subcritical spheroidization anneal of the cold-rolled 50CrV4 steel at 720 °C has been carried out. During spheroidization anneal, the lamellar cementite was gradually broken down and changed to spherical shape. With prolonging of soaking time, the amount of lamellar cementite decreases gradually, and that of the spheroidized cementite particle increases gradually. The relationship of the spheroidization ratio versus soaking time for the steel can be described by a typically sigmoid curve. Additionally, the cold rolling deformation accelerates the breakup of lamellar cementite and the formation of spheroidal cementite particles during spheroidization anneal of the steel. The more severe the deformation is, the more rapidly the spheroidization occurs. From the results of tensile and hardness test, the yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and hardness decrease and the percentage elongation to failure increases rapidly during the first 2 h of spheroidization. Between 2 and 8 h, the yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, hardness nearly keep a constant, which are independent of the soaking time, whereas the percentage elongation to failure firstly increases and then decreases with prolonging of soaking time.

In this paper, we construct a novel weighted network named subject categories network from the dataset of readers' borrowing lists in library. We empirically study the statistical properties and take the first step to uncover the topological structure of this network. Our results indicate that subject categories network is strongly heterogeneous and has a small world phenomenon. We also find that: (i) well-connected subjects are typically read more; (ii) subjects with large strength tend to bridge communities; (iii) those connections held large intensity preferably cluster together each other; (iv) it is likely that well-connected subjects have a majority of low-degree neighbors and are linked by edges with larger weights. Finally, through these results, we constructed a simple example of local structure for providing a framework to understand the hierarchies and organization principles in the subject categories system.

Dynamics of the nearest-neighbor concurrence and the block–block entanglement in closed Heisenberg chains with Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya (DM) interactions are simulated numerically. It is found that the nearest-neighbor concurrence and the block–block entanglement can be generated dynamically from an initial antiferromagnetic (AF) state, and DM interactions will enhance the amplitude of oscillation of concurrence and that of block–block entanglement. Furthermore, dynamics of block–block entanglement SL in the chain with even number spins is coincident with the dynamics of SN - L for D = 0. However, with the consideration of DM interactions, the evolution of SL will not be consistent with that of SN - L for the chain with odd number spins. In a given time interval, the maximal value of the generated nearest-neighbor concurrence [Formula: see text] will first decrease with the increase of chain's length, then oscillate with the increase of N. The maximal value and the minimal value of the oscillation becomes stable for a large N, and [Formula: see text] of the chain with odd spins is larger than that of the chain with even spins for a large N. The influence of DM interaction on the value of [Formula: see text] becomes unobvious with the increase of chain's length.

Hydrogen passivated nanocrystalline Si/SiO2 (nc-Si:H/SiO2) pillar arrays were fabricated by using nanosphere lithography combination with hydrogen plasma annealing (HPA). Enhanced blue-orange-red photoluminescence (PL) could be observed by the naked eye in the bright room from the samples. By controlling the size of nc-Si:H from 3.8 to 1.8 nm, the PL peak blueshifts from 757 to 435 nm. It is found that the nanopillar structure can drastically enhance the light-absorbing properties of the samples and hydrogenation of nc-Si embedded in pillars is benefit to the increase of photoluminescence (PL) intensity. Combined with the analysis of atomic force microscope (AFM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and absorption spectra, the blue photoluminescence (PL) peak are ascribed to the quantum size effect of the nc-Si passivated by hydrogen, and the orange and red ones to both the localized surface states and quantum confinement effects of nc-Si:H. The evolution of entanglement in a one-dimensional Ising chain with both two-body and three-body interactions, under two types of initial states, is numerically simulated. We analyse three problems concerning the dynamics of pairwise entanglement: (i) the possibility of generating large entanglement from an initial separable state by the use of a selective irradiation scheme; (ii) the effect of three-body interaction on the generation of entanglement from an initial separable state; (iii) the effect of three-body interaction on the decay of the entanglement from a state with only (m,n)-pair maximal entangled, and the rest in product form. It is shown that a large pairwise concurrence C mn can be obtained when the resonant, transverse radio-frequency fields are selectively switched on from the mth to nth spins. Three-body interaction will decrease the oscillation amplitude of the nearest neighbour concurrence, while the oscillation amplitude of remote pairwise concurrence will be greatly increased with the consideration of three-body interactions. For an initial (m,n)-pair maximal entangled state, a slow decay of the pairwise concurrence C mn is found with the introduction of three-body interactions.

Highly ordered palpus-like crystals induced by strain are observed in the films grown on the substrate of SrTiO 3 (with thickness t ranging from 20 to 50 nm) and on sapphire (with thickness t ranging from 30 to 50 nm). The strain is identified to result from thermal expansion mismatch between the substrate and the film, and thermal expansion anomaly may exist at a high temperature induced by possible phase transition in LCMO with t = 30 nm. Such a phenomenon may arrest the film growth and the understanding of colossal magnetoresistance materials as well as provide a new way to make ordered structures for applications.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) including ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) increased the risk for developing colorectal cancer. However, there is no effective therapy for IBDs. The aim of this study was to identify potential therapeutic targets for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and explore the possible mechanism underlying this disease.Gene expression profile GSE6731 was downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus database, which included 9 UC samples and 19 CD samples. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between affected colon tissues and non-affected tissues were identified in UC and CD group. Then, Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways analysis of DEGs were performed. Modules in the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network were identified, and significant node genes were selected.Total 619 DEGs including 285 up-regulated genes and 334 down-regulated genes were identified in UC group and total 1159 DEGs of CD including 585 up-regulated genes and 574 down-regulated genes were selected. Module was selected from PPI network. From the PPI network and module, DEGs of mitogen-activated protein kinase 3 (MAPK3), N-myc downstream regulated 1 (NDRG1) and major histocompatibility complex, class II, DR alpha (HLA-DRA) have high degree.MAPK3, NDRG1 and HLA-DRA may play key roles in the progression and development of IBD. They may be used as specific therapeutic targets in the treatment of IBD. However, further experiments are still needed to confirm our results.

We report much improved color gamut liquid crystal displays (LCDs) with specially engineered low-reabsorption, narrow emission spectrum and high quantum yield colloidal quantum-dot light converting device (QLCD) and its applications to TV displays. By theoretical and experimental optimizations, color gamut as wide as 120% NTSC standard is demonstrated. QCLD has also been tested for stability under conditions with an average blue light flux of 1.1 W/cm2 and an internal temperature of 125°C for the QLCD. No statistical change in color coordinates CIE x or CIE y is observed after 2750 hours continuous aging test, which demonstrates the great potential for using the QLCD for next generation LCD TV with much improved performance.

The empirical mode decomposition is applied to analyze the intrinsic multi-scale dynamic behaviors of complex financial systems. In this approach, the time series of the price returns of each stock is decomposed into a small number of intrinsic mode functions, which represent the price motion from high frequency to low frequency. These intrinsic mode functions are then grouped into three modes, i.e., the fast mode, medium mode and slow mode. The probability distribution of returns and auto-correlation of volatilities for the fast and medium modes exhibit similar behaviors as those of the full time series, i.e., these characteristics are rather robust in multi time scale. However, the cross-correlation between individual stocks and the return-volatility correlation are time scale dependent. The structure of business sectors is mainly governed by the fast mode when returns are sampled at a couple of days, while by the medium mode when returns are sampled at dozens of days. More importantly, the leverage and anti-leverage effects are dominated by the medium mode.

We present a self-consistent quantum-theoretical analysis of the ground-state energy and low-energy excitation spectrum of a dimerized and frustrated Heisenberg chain by the bosonization representation in the continuum-limit approach. The frustration effects on the ground-state energy and energy gap are investigated for α>αc where α is the frustration parameter and αc is its critical value, above which a frustration-induced energy gap is opened. It is shown that as α increases, the ground-state energy decreases and the energy gap increases. We find that the dimerization dependence of the ground-state energy and energy gap for small dimerization obeys the Cross-Fisher power law only at α = αc, but departs significantly from it when α>αc. The present results are in good agreement with numerical analyses from the density-matrix renormalization-group and exact diagonalization methods. The relevance of our calculated results to recent experiments on the spin-Peierls compounds CuGeO3 is also discussed.

With the network methods and random matrix theory, we investigate the interaction structure of communities in financial markets. In particular, based on the random matrix decomposition, we clarify that the local interactions between the business sectors (subsectors) are mainly contained in the sector mode. In the sector mode, the average correlation inside the sectors is positive, while that between the sectors is negative. We investigate the spatial and temporal structures of four financial markets in Greater China. In particular, we uncover different characteristics of the four markets by analyzing the sector and subsector structures which are detected through the random matrix theory. Meanwhile, we observe that the Taiwan and Hongkong stock markets show a negative return-volatility correlation, i.e., the so-called leverage effect. The Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets are more complicated. Before the year 2000, the two markets exhibit a strong positive return-volatility correlation, which is called the anti-leverage effect. After 2000, however, it gradually changes to the leverage effect. We also find that the recurrence interval distributions of both the trading volume volatilities and price volatilities follow a power law behavior, while the exponents vary among different markets., Comment: 7 figures. We investigate the large-fluctuation dynamics in financial markets, based on the minute-to-minute and daily data of the Chinese Indices and German DAX. The dynamic relaxation both before and after the large fluctuations is characterized by a power law, and the exponents $p_\pm$ usually vary with the strength of the large fluctuations. The large-fluctuation dynamics is time-reversal symmetric at the time scale in minutes, while asymmetric at the daily time scale. Careful analysis reveals that the time-reversal asymmetry is mainly induced by external forces. It is also the external forces which drive the financial system to a non-stationary state. With the random matrix theory, we study the spatial structure of the Chinese stock market, American stock market and global market indices. After taking into account the signs of the components in the eigenvectors of the cross-correlation matrix, we detect the subsector structure of the financial systems. The positive and negative subsectors are anti-correlated each other in the corresponding eigenmode. The subsector structure is strong in the Chinese stock market, while somewhat weaker in the American stock market and global market indices. Ion exchanger and ODS bonded silica gel for HPLC packing were prepared. An HPLC method for the analysis of surfactant PS concentration in injected-produced liquor has been established to meet the need of ASP flooding developed in Gudao West Block of Shengli Oilfield, with a minimum detectable limit of 0.4 mg/L, a linear range of 50 mg/L-1,000 mg/L and recoveries of 95.7%-99.8%. This method has provided great technical support in a variety of fields to the design of the prescription for ASP flooding, the regulation of injection measurement, the quality control of products and the study on the mechanism of oil flooding etc.

What is the dominating mechanism of the price dynamics in financial systems is of great interest to scientists. The problem whether and how volatilities affect the price movement draws much attention. Although many efforts have been made, it remains challenging. Physicists usually apply the concepts and methods in statistical physics, such as temporal correlation functions, to study financial dynamics. However, the usual volatility-return correlation function, which is local in time, typically fluctuates around zero. Here we construct dynamic observables nonlocal in time to explore the volatility-return correlation, based on the empirical data of hundreds of individual stocks and 25 stock market indices in different countries. Strikingly, the correlation is discovered to be non-zero, with an amplitude of a few percent and a duration of over two weeks. This result provides compelling evidence that past volatilities nonlocal in time affect future returns. Further, we introduce an agent-based model with a novel mechanism, that is, the asymmetric trading preference in volatile and stable markets, to understand the microscopic origin of the volatility-return correlation nonlocal in time., Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures

We present a novel approach to address one of the technical hurdles the current light-emitting diode (LED) lighting field faces: the packaged efficacy of warm-white LEDs is 20%-30% lower than that of cool-white LEDs depending on the color rendering index. With a differentiated luminaire design in combination with a new class of nano materials, we have greatly improved the efficacy of warm white by 15% at the luminaire system level, which translates to less energy being required to achieve the same light output, and thus offers a more energy-efficient solution. Reliability test of the luminaire shows no performance degradation within the tested period of more than 3000 h. A modeling has been developed to predict the optical performance of luminaires incorporating the nano materials, which agrees well with the experimental data and serves as a powerful tool for designing luminaires with targeted performance.

Some new results are obtained using the Gram-Schmidt algorithm (GSA) in digital beamforming (DBF). It is noted that the number of snapshot samples must be equal to the number of jammers: otherwise, the pattern nulls cannot be formed in the jammer directions. Both numbers can be determined adaptively. In addition, the amplitude and phase errors existing in each receiver and the GSA itself will affect the null position and depth of the difference pattern in the steering direction. These effects are eliminated in the algorithm described. It is also shown that the nulls in 2-D directions can be achieved by using the GSA in a planar array. >

By the first-principles calculations, various SrTiO3/Si interface architectures have been studied in this work and the computed results showed that the stable ferroelectricity can be realized in the SrTiO3/Si system. The Si/SrO interface architecture with the Si-O configuration showed predominately the ferroelectric nature and the height of the potential barrier between the negative and positive poled states (0.77 eV per interfacial unit cell). The presence of the covalent bond between the substrate Si and O of SrO layer adjacent to the substrate Si leads to the disappearance of the electronic dipoles at the interface, and the reason is that the Si-O configuration of the Si/SrO interface architecture exhibits ferroelectric nature. In order to further understand the influence of the interfacial bonding nature on the ferroelectricity of the oxide layer, the BaTiO3/Si heterojunction with the same interface architectures also have been studied. Indeed, the Si/BaO interface architecture with the Si-O configuration showed predominately the ferroelectric nature too. Certainly, a full SrO (or BaO) layer directly grown on the substrate Si is benefit to the realization of the ferroelectric functionality in the ferroelectric-Si heterojunction. These findings are useful for the understanding of the basic physics of the ferroelectric-Si heterojunction and the silicon-based functional oxide device design.
