1. Ion temperature gradient mode and its solitons with regularized κ-distributed electrons

Abstract

The linear and the non-linear behaviors of the ion temperature gradient (ITG) mode in a plasma with regularized κ-distributed electrons are investigated using the fluid model. The dispersion relation of the ITG mode obtained on the basis of the local approximation shows that the growth rate of the ITG mode decreases with the increase in the spectral index κ and the exponential cut-off parameter α. It indicates that the presence of the superthermal electron leads to destabilization of the ITG mode, especially in the low κ (κ < 1.5) region. In addition, the existence and the nature of the soliton structure driven by the ITG are studied using the pseudopotential technology. The soliton amplitude increases with the increase in the exponential cut-off parameter α and the spectral index κ, whereas the width of the soliton varies inversely. The present results will help to understand the low-frequency electrostatic wave and nonlinear structure in space and experimental plasmas with non-thermal electrons.

2. Design of power supply system for the NanChang Spherical Tokamak

Abstract

The NanChang Spherical Tokamak (NCST), a new compact (plasma major radius R = 0.40 m, minor radius a = 0.24 m, and aspect ratio A = 1.67) spherical tokamak, is suitable for teaching and scientific research activities at the university. The principal goal of the device is to initiate plasma currents by utilizing merging compression. At present, the NCST has a total of five complete coil systems, including the coils and their dedicated power supplies, to generate and control the plasma as per the experimental objectives. This paper presents the NCST device and its coils, the design of the power supplies, and the simulation results of plasma configurations as well as the comparison of experimental and simulation results of the above-mentioned power supply system.

3. Design and construction of magnetic diagnostics on NanChang spherical tokamak

Abstract

The NanChang Spherical Tokamak (NCST) is a new compact tokamak (with an aspect ratio of R/a = 1.67) for exploring the merging compression by which the plasma start-up is highly efficient. In this paper, a magnetic diagnostic system is designed, calibrated, and constructed on the NCST to meet the requirements of measurements. Based on detailed testing and analysis, the reliability of the sensors is guaranteed by optimizing the support structure and installation process. In addition, high-precision positioning equipment is utilized to ensure the installation accuracy of the sensors. During the start-up phase of the NCST, plasma currents on the order of a few kiloamperes were measured despite that the commensurate signal of eddy current is also found in the conducting structure. The magnetic diagnostic system is now completely operational and meets the requirements of the physical analysis on the NCST.

Abstract

Isochronous mass spectrometry based on heavy-ion storage rings is a powerful tool for direct mass measurements of very short-lived nuclei. Owing to the nature of in-flight separation of high-energy reaction products, many ion species with different mass-to-charge ratios (m/q) can be transmitted to and stored in the ring in one shot. However, high mass resolving power can be achieved only for a limited range of ion species with velocities well matching the isochronous condition of the ring. The knowledge of velocities of each stored ions is required to overcome this restriction. For this purpose, two time-of-flight (TOF) detectors were installed 18 m apart in one straight section of the cooler-storage ring CSRe in Lanzhou. The time sequences measured by the two TOF detectors for each stored ion were used for the precision determination of its velocity. A relative precision of the velocity is achieved to the level of 10^{-5} for individual ions. The betatron oscillations of the ion motion in the ring were clearly identified in the data and were taken into account in the analysis. The presented technique can be used for measurements of machine tunes and their dependence on particle momenta.

Abstract

Abrasive water jet cutting (AWJC) technology has been widely used in metal processing field. However, the generation of striations deteriorates cutting quality. In this paper, Smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) coupled Finite element method (FEM) is used to simulate and analyze the cutting process of AISI 304 stainless steel. The results show that the declining jet angle will result in uneven erosion of abrasive particles, which is caused by the generation of striation phenomenon. The research can deepen the understanding of striation phenomena in metal machining process.

Abstract

We present a new experimental method for measuring inner-shell ionization cross sections of low-charged ions colliding with hydrogen gas target in a storage ring. The method is based on a calibration by the well-known differential cross sections of proton elastic scattering on nuclei. K-shell ionization cross section of 1047(100) barn for the 95 MeV/u 58Ni19+ ions colliding with hydrogen atoms was obtained in this work. Compared to the measured ionization cross section, a good agreement is achieved with the prediction by the Relativistic Ionization CODE Modified program (RICODE-M).

10. Parametric Instability of Rotating Functionally Graded Graphene Reinforced Truncated Conical Shells Subjected to Both Mechanical and Thermal Loading Conditions

Abstract

This article focuses on parametric instability of rotating functionally graded (FG) truncated conical shells reinforced by graphene platelets (GPLs) and subjected to both mechanical and thermal loading conditions. The GPL nanofillers are uniformly dispersed in each concentric conical layer but its weight fraction varies continuously along thickness direction, which induces the position-dependent effective material properties. Based on Love’s thin shell theory and Galerkin approach, the equations of motion for the conical shells are derived with the effects of the periodic axial loads, thermal expansion deformation, rotation-induced initial hoop tension, gyroscopic and centrifugal forces taken into account. Then, the parametric instability under combination parametric resonance for the conical shells is performed by the method of multiple scales, and the analytical solutions of both instability boundaries are obtained. A comprehensive parametric study is conducted which focuses on instability regions and vibration characteristics of the conical shell. Of particular interest in this process is the combined effect of the rotation, dynamic loads and thermal effects on dynamic stability of FG-GPL reinforced truncated conical shells.

Abstract

Red sandstone is an engineering rock mass with disaster-causing characteristics such as low strength, weak bonding and proneness to softening and disintegration in water, all of which will generate great impacts on the regional engineering construction. A wide range of red-bed cutting slopes are distributed along multiple expressways in southern Anhui. The instability of such slopes will lead to major economic and security loss. Since the rainy season in 2020, Anhui Province suffered wide-range heavy rainfall, where the rainfall reached over 300 mm in some areas of southern Anhui within 24 h, belonging to torrential rainstorm, after which, landslide disaster occurred with a lot of red-bed cutting slopes witnessed along G4012 Expressway in southern Anhui. In this study, a red-bed cutting slope in Jixi segment was taken as the study object, with the main lithology of Huizhou Formation ferrous siltstone. Three rainfall intensities were set by combining the regional rainfall characteristics, the slope stability under different rainfall intensities was calculated via Midas finite element software, and a slope support and reinforcement scheme was designed based on the characteristics of this slope.

14. Development of a removable three-dimensional magnetic probe system for measuring field null on the NanChang Spherical Tokamak

Abstract

The field null configuration of a poloidal magnetic field is one of the critical conditions for achieving Ohmic breakdown during the initial discharge of a new tokamak. The issue of the Ohmic breakdown on the NanChang Spherical Tokamak (NCST) is still not solved satisfactorily although plasma currents of about 2 kA were found. Hence, a removable three-dimensional magnetic probe (RTMP) system consisting of 25 magnetic probes was designed, calibrated, and constructed on the NCST to evaluate the field null inside a vacuum vessel. After repeated tests, the RTMP system exhibited outstanding performance in terms of accuracy and stability with errors of about 1%. Meanwhile, the RTMP system successfully measured the toroidal field (TF) coil ripples at the magnetic axis. During experiments, the stray field arising from the TF coil implied a strong link between the flexible connection of the TF coil and the Ohmic breakdown on the NCST. After the field null was effectively modified by using a new flexible connection of the TF coil and controlling the induced current in the poloidal field coil, the NCST tokamak reproducibly obtained 20 kA plasma current with the limiter configuration during the plasma current flat-top phase.

The measurements are fully corrected for detector effects, and reported differentially in both the jet transverse momentum and jet radius parameter. We compare the measurements to established leading-order Monte Carlo event generators and find that STAR-tuned pythia-6 reproduces the data, while LHC tunes of pythia-8 and herwig-7 do not agree with the data, providing further constraints on parameter tuning. Finally, we observe that softdrop grooming, for which the contribution of wide-angle nonperturbative radiation is suppressed, shifts the jet mass distributions into closer agreement with the partonic jet mass as determined by both pythia-8 and a next-to-leading-logarithmic accuracy perturbative QCD calculation. These measurements complement recent LHC measurements in a different kinematic region, as well as establish a baseline for future jet mass measurements in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC.

The Cn and κn are presented as a function of collision energy, centrality and kinematic acceptance in rapidity, y, and transverse momentum, pT. The data were taken during the first phase of the Beam Energy Scan (BES) program (2010-2017) at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) facility. Abstract

The linear dispersion for ion acoustic waves (IAWs) including the effects of dust charge fluctuation and electron nonextensivity is derived. It is shown that the presence of nonextensive electrons modifies the charge fluctuation behavior, leading to the dissipative and instability for IAWs. The dependence of the frequency and damping rate of IAWs on the electron nonextensive parameter q is closely to the dust density since it greatly affects the dust charge fluctuation.

Abstract

We present the first measurement of the proton–Ω correlation function in heavy-ion collisions for the central (0–40%) and peripheral (40–80%) Au + Au collisions at s NN = 200 GeV by the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC). Predictions for the ratio of peripheral collisions to central collisions for the proton–Ω correlation function are sensitive to the presence of a nucleon–Ω bound state. These predictions are based on the proton–Ω interaction extracted from ( 2 + 1 ) -flavor lattice QCD calculations at the physical point. The measured ratio of the proton–Ω correlation function between the peripheral (small system) and central (large system) collisions is less than unity for relative momentum smaller than 40 MeV/c. Comparison of our measured correlation ratio with theoretical calculation slightly favors a proton–Ω bound system with a binding energy of ∼ 27 MeV.

Transverse momentum (pT) dependence of flow coefficients (v2, v3, and v4) is presented for minimum bias collisions and three different centrality intervals. Number of constituent quark scaling of the measured flow coefficients in U+U collisions is discussed. We also present the ratio of vn scaled by the participant eccentricity (ɛn2) to explore system size dependence and collectivity in U+U collisions. The magnitude of v2/ɛ2 is found to be smaller in U+U collisions than that in central Au+Au collisions contradicting naive eccentricity scaling. Furthermore, the ratios between various flow harmonics (v3/v23/2, v4/v24/2) are studied and compared with hydrodynamic and transport model calculations.

The results at the two different energies show a continuous increase of the TSSA with Feynman-x, and, when compared to previous measurements, no dependence on s from 19.4 GeV to 500 GeV is found. To investigate the underlying physics leading to this large TSSA, different topologies have been studied. π0 with no nearby particles tend to have a higher TSSA than inclusive π0. The TSSA for inclusive electromagnetic jets, sensitive to the Sivers effect in the initial state, is substantially smaller, but shows the same behavior as the inclusive π0 asymmetry as a function of Feynman-x. To investigate final-state effects, the Collins asymmetry of π0 inside electromagnetic jets has been measured. The Collins asymmetry is analyzed for its dependence on the π0 momentum transverse to the jet thrust axis and its dependence on the fraction of jet energy carried by the π0. The asymmetry was found to be small in each case for both center-of-mass energies. All the measurements are compared to QCD-based theoretical calculations for transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions and fragmentation functions. Some discrepancies are found, which indicates new mechanisms might be involved.

The new inclusive jet data are sensitive to the gluon helicity distribution, Δg(x,Q2), for gluon momentum fractions in the range from x≃0.05 to x≃0.5, while the new dijet data provide further constraints on the x dependence of Δg(x,Q2). The results are in good agreement with previous measurements at s=200 GeV and with recent theoretical evaluations of prior world data. Our new results have better precision and thus strengthen the evidence that Δg(x,Q2) is positive for xg0.05.

Neutral pions are observed in the forward direction relative to the transversely polarized proton beam, in the pseudorapidity region 2.7lηl3.8. Results are presented for π0s observed in the STAR forward meson spectrometer electromagnetic calorimeter in narrow Feynman x (xF) and transverse momentum (pT) bins, spanning the range 0.172.5 GeV/c. It is further observed that the value of AN is significantly larger for events with a large-pT isolated π0 than for events with a nonisolated π0 accompanied by additional jetlike fragments. The nuclear dependence r(A) is similar for isolated and nonisolated π0 events.

Abstract

The beam energy scan (BES) program at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) was extended to energies below sNN=7.7 GeV in 2015 by successful implementation of the fixed-target mode of operation in the STAR (Solenoidal Tracker At RHIC) experiment. In this mode, ions circulate in one ring of the collider and interact with a stationary target at the entrance of the STAR time projection chamber. The first results for Au+Au collisions at sNN=4.5 GeV are presented, demonstrating good performance of all the relevant detector subsystems in fixed-target mode. Results presented here include directed and elliptic flow of identified hadrons, and radii from pion femtoscopy. The latter, together with recent HADES results, reveal a long-sought peak structure that may be caused by the system evolving through a first-order phase transition from quark-gluon plasma to the hadronic phase. Directed and elliptic flow for pions are presented for the first time at this beam energy. Pion and proton elliptic flow show behavior which hints at constituent quark scaling, and demonstrate that a definitive conclusion will be achievable using the full statistics of the ongoing second phase of BES (BES-II). In particular, BES-II to date has recorded fixed-target data sets with two orders of magnitude more events at each of nine energies between sNN=3.0 and 7.7 GeV.

Abstract

International audience; Isochronous mass spectrometry based on heavy-ion storage rings is a powerful tool for direct mass measurements of very short-lived nuclei. Owing to the nature of in-flight separation of high-energy reaction products, many ion species with different mass-to-charge ratios (m/q) can be transmitted to and stored in the ring in one shot. However, high mass resolving power can be achieved only for a limited range of ion species with velocities well matching the isochronous condition of the ring. The knowledge of velocities of each stored ions is required to overcome this restriction. For this purpose, two time-of-flight (TOF) detectors were installed 18 m apart in one straight section of the cooler-storage ring CSRe in Lanzhou. The time sequences measured by the two TOF detectors for each stored ion were used for the precision determination of its velocity. A relative precision of the velocity is achieved to the level of 10-5 for individual ions. The betatron oscillations of the ion motion in the ring were clearly identified in the data and were taken into account in the analysis. The presented technique can be used for measurements of machine tunes and their dependence on particle momenta.

25. Changes in intestinal florae and serum inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis rats and the effects of probiotics

Abstract

The aim of this study was to explore the changes in intestinal florae and serum inflammation in rats with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and to investigate the effects of probiotics.A total of 30 Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into three groups, namely, control group, model group, and probiotic group. The rats in the model group were prepared into models of collagen II-induced arthritis. Meanwhile, the rats in probiotic group were treated with probiotics for 6 weeks via intragastric administration in addition to the treatment in the model group. Next, the feces of rats in the control group, model group, and probiotic group were sampled to detect the composition of intestinal florae. In addition, peripheral blood was collected from rats to determine the changes in the content of inflammatory factors, including tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and IL-1β through enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Compared with the control group, the levels of serum inflammatory factors TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β were significantly upregulated in the model group (p0.05). This suggested successful modeling. However, they decreased notably in probiotic group when compared with the model group (p0.05), indicating that probiotics could inhibit inflammatory response in rats. The levels of microbes Bacteroidetes, Streptococcus and Clostridiales were significantly higher in the control group (p0.05). The levels of Ruminococcaceae, Asoccbarobacler, Coriobacteriaceae, and fecal anaerobic coryneform bacteria were remarkably higher in the model group (p0.05). Meanwhile, the levels of Porphyromonadaceae, Barnsiella, Actinobacteria, Alloscardovia, Bifidobacteria and Parabacteroides were remarkably higher in probiotic group (p0.05). The intestinal level of Bacteroides was the highest in rats of control group, which decreased significantly in the model group (p=0.000). However, the intestinal level of Bacteroides in probiotic group was overtly higher than that in the model group (p=0.000), whereas was lower than the control group. The intestinal level of Bifidobacteria in the model group was significantly lower than that in the control group (p=0.024). However, it was evidently higher in the probiotic group than that in both model group and control group (p=0.000). The intestinal level of Asoccbarobacler was remarkably higher in the model group than that in control group (p=0.005). However, it was lower in probiotic group than that in model group (p=0.003), showing the highest in model group. There was an evidently negative correlation between Firmicuteria and Clostridium (r=-0.82, p=0.000), and a positive association between Firmicuteria and Bacteroides (r=0.77, p=0.000). Bacteroides was negatively correlated with Clostridium (r=-0.89, p=0.002) and Enterococcus (r=-0.63, p=0.021). In addition, Enterococcus had a highly positive correlation with Clostridium (r=0.6, p=0.001).Evident changes in intestinal florae and serum inflammation are detected in rats with RA, and such changes can be partially reversed by probiotics.

The polarization parameters, λθ, λφ, and λθφ, are measured as a function of transverse momentum (pT) in both the helicity and Collins-Soper (CS) reference frames within pTl10 GeV/c. Except for λθ in the CS frame at the highest measured pT, all three polarization parameters are consistent with 0 in both reference frames without any strong pT dependence. Several model calculations are compared with data, and the one using the Color Glass Condensate effective field theory coupled with nonrelativistic QCD gives the best overall description of the experimental results, even though other models cannot be ruled out due to experimental uncertainties.

Abstract

By using isochronous mass spectrometry (IMS) at the experimental cooler storage ring CSRe, masses of short-lived $^{44}$Cr, $^{46}$Mn, $^{48}$Fe, $^{50}$Co and $^{52}$Ni were measured for the first time and the precision of the mass of $^{40}$Ti was improved by a factor of about 2. Relative precisions of $\delta m/m=(1-2)\times$10$^{-6}$ have been achieved. Details of the measurements and data analysis are described. The obtained masses are compared with the Atomic-Mass Evaluation 2016 (AME$^{\prime}$16) and with theoretical model predictions. The new mass data enable us to extract the higher order coefficients, $d$ and $e$, of the quartic form of the isobaric multiplet mass equation (IMME) for the $fp$-shell isospin quintets. Unexpectedly large $d$- and $e$-values for $A=44$ quintet are found. By re-visiting the previous experimental data on $\beta$-delayed protons from $^{44}$Cr decay, it is suggested that the observed anomaly could be due to the misidentification of the $T=2$, $J^\pi=0^{+}$ isobaric analog state (IAS) in $^{44}$V.

Abstract

This work concerns noise reduction for one-dimensional spectra in the case that the signal is corrupted by an additive white noise. The proposed method starts with mapping the noisy spectrum to a partial circulant matrix. In virtue of singular-value decomposition of the matrix, components belonging to the signal are determined by inspecting the total variations of left singular vectors. Afterwards, a smoothed spectrum is reconstructed from the low-rank approximation of the matrix consisting of the signal components only. The denoising effect of the proposed method is shown to be highly competitive among other existing nonparametric methods, including moving average, wavelet shrinkage, and total variation. Furthermore, its applicable scenarios in precision storage-ring mass spectrometry are demonstrated to be rather diverse and appealing.

Abstract

The measurements of particle multiplicity distributions have generated considerable interest in understanding the fluctuations of conserved quantum numbers in the quantum chromodynamics (QCD) hadronization regime, in particular near a possible critical point and near the chemical freeze-out. Net-protons and net-kaons have been used as proxies for the net-baryon number and net-strangeness, respectively. We report the measurement of efficiency- and centrality-bin width-corrected cumulant ratios (C2/C1, C3/C2) of net-Λ distributions, in the context of both strangeness and baryon number conservation, as a function of collision energy, centrality, and rapidity. The results are for Au+Au collisions at five beam energies (sNN=19.6, 27, 39, 62.4, and 200 GeV) recorded with the Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC (STAR). We compare our results to the Poisson and negative binomial (NBD) expectations, as well as to ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) and hadron resonance gas (HRG) model predictions. Both NBD and Poisson baselines agree with data within the statistical and systematic uncertainties. UrQMD describes the measured net-ΛC1 and C3 at 200 GeV reasonably well but deviates from C2, and the deviation increases as a function of collision energy. The ratios of the measured cumulants show no features of critical fluctuations. The chemical freeze-out temperatures extracted from a recent HRG calculation, which was successfully used to describe the net-proton, net-kaon, and net-charge data, indicate Λ freeze-out conditions similar to those of kaons. However, large deviations are found when comparing with temperatures obtained from net-proton fluctuations. The net-Λ cumulants show a weak but finite dependence on the rapidity coverage in the acceptance of the detector, which can be attributed to quantum number conservation.

Abstract

Cadmium (Cd) pollution was becoming more and more serious; there is an urgent need for an effective solution to inhibit the harm of cadmium stress. Chitosan (CTS) is a biologically active polysaccharide that plays a unique role under abiotic stress. So it was of much improtance to explore the effects of CTS on maize resistance ability. The results showed that maize (Zea mays L.) seedling growth was significantly inhibited, root system was the first organ that contact with cadmium stress, so the roots accumulated a lot of cadmium content, reducing the root activity, root growth was blocked, which led a reduction in nutrients to the leaves, and the chlorophyll content and photosynthetic enzyme activity were decreased. Additionally, the antioxidant enzyme activity was reduced. Under cadmium stress, CTS treatments significantly increased the growth rate and compensated for the function of root system, and which increased SOD, POD, CAT, APX and GR activities and AsA, GSH contents of leaves, but reduced $${\text{O}}_{2}^{{\centerdot \, - }}$$ , H2O2 and MDA contents. CTS increased chlorophyll content, Pn, Gs, Tr, Fv/Fm, ΦPSII, qP and NPQ, reduced Ci, avoided excessive light damage and maintained higher PSII activity. CTS alleviated the destruction of antioxidant enzymes and inhibited the production of reactive oxygen species, which improved the chlorophyll content and photosynthesis of plants. Our results showed that CTS could be used in cadmium-contaminated areas to reduce the toxicity of cadmium stress. The study results provide a theoretical and experimental basis for the safe production of maize in cadmium-contaminated areas.

Abstract

The Isochronous Mass Spectrometry (IMS) based on storage rings is a powerful technique for mass measurement of short-lived exotic nuclei. The transition energy γ t of the storage ring is a vital parameter of the IMS technique. It is difficult to measure the γ t and its relation to momentum spread or circulating length, especially to monitor the variation of γ t during experiments. An experimental investigation on the γ t has been performed for the IMS experiment at the Cooler Storage Ring of the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL-CSRe). With the velocity measured by two time-of-flight (TOF) detectors, the γ t as a function of orbital length can be determined. The influences of higher order magnetic field components on the γ t function were inferred for isochronous correction. This paper introduces and investigates the influence of dipole magnetic fields, quadrupole magnetic fields and sextupole magnetic fields on the γ t function. With the quadrupole magnets and sextupole magnets corrections, a mass resolution of 171332 (FWHM) and σ ( T ) ∕ T = 1 . 34 × 1 0 − 6 were reached, which shall be compared with 31319 (FWHM) and σ ( T ) ∕ T = 7 . 35 × 1 0 − 6 obtained without correction.

Abstract

The Isochronous Mass Spectrometry (IMS) is a powerful technique developed in heavy-ion storage rings for measuring masses of very short-lived exotic nuclei. The IMS is based on the isochronous setting of the ring. One of the main parameters of this setting is the transition energy γ t . It has been a challenge to determine the γ t and especially to monitor the variation of γ t during experiments. In this paper we introduce a method to measure the γ t online during IMS experiments by using the acquired experimental data. Furthermore, since the storage ring has (in our context) a relatively large momentum acceptance, the variation of the γ t across the ring acceptance is a source of systematic uncertainty of measured masses. With the installation of two time-of-flight (TOF) detectors, the velocity of each stored ion and its revolution time are simultaneously available for the analysis. These quantities enabled us to determine the γ t as a function of orbital length in the ring. The presented method is especially important for future IMS experiments planned at the new-generation storage ring facilities FAIR in Germany and HIAF in China.

Abstract

Using isochronous mass spectrometry at the experimental storage ring CSRe in Lanzhou, the masses of $^{82}$Zr and $^{84}$Nb were measured for the first time with an uncertainty of $\sim 10$ keV, and the masses of $^{79}$Y, $^{81}$Zr, and $^{83}$Nb were re-determined with a higher precision. %The latter differ significantly from their literature values. The latter are significantly less bound than their literature values. Our new and accurate masses remove the irregularities of the mass surface in this region of the nuclear chart. Our results do not support the predicted island of pronounced low $\alpha$ separation energies for neutron-deficient Mo and Tc isotopes, making the formation of Zr-Nb cycle in the $rp$-process unlikely. The new proton separation energy of $^{83}$Nb was determined to be 490(400)~keV smaller than that in the Atomic Mass Evaluation 2012. This partly removes the overproduction of the $p$-nucleus $^{84}$Sr relative to the neutron-deficient molybdenum isotopes in the previous $\nu p$-process simulations.

Abstract

We study the decays of J / ψ and ψ ( 3686 ) to the final states Σ ( 1385 ) 0 Σ ¯ ( 1385 ) 0 and Ξ 0 Ξ ¯ 0 based on a single baryon tag method using data samples of ( 1310.6 ± 7.0 ) × 10 6 J / ψ and ( 447.9 ± 2.9 ) × 10 6 ψ ( 3686 ) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decays to Σ ( 1385 ) 0 Σ ¯ ( 1385 ) 0 are observed for the first time. The measured branching fractions of J / ψ and ψ ( 3686 ) to Ξ 0 Ξ ¯ 0 are in good agreement with, and much more precise than, the previously published results. The angular parameters for these decays are also measured for the first time. The measured angular decay parameter for J / ψ → Σ ( 1385 ) 0 Σ ¯ ( 1385 ) 0 , α = − 0.64 ± 0.03 ± 0.10 , is found to be negative, different to the other decay processes in this measurement. In addition, the “12% rule” and isospin symmetry in the decays of J / ψ and ψ ( 3686 ) to Ξ Ξ ¯ and Σ ( 1385 ) Σ ¯ ( 1385 ) are tested.

These correlations were measured for both like-sign and unlike-sign charge combinations and versus the centrality. The correlations of pions and kaons show the expected near-side ({\it i.e.}, at small relative angles) peak resulting from short-range mechanisms. The amplitudes of these short-range correlations decrease with increasing beam energy. However, the proton correlation functions exhibit strong anticorrelations in the near-side region. This behavior is observed for the first time in an A+A collision system. The observed anticorrelation is $p_{T}$-independent and decreases with increasing beam energy and centrality. Abstract

Luminosity is a measure of the colliding frequency between beam and target and it is a crucial parameter for the measurement of absolute values, such as reaction cross sections. In this paper, we make use of experimental data from the ESR storage ring to demonstrate that the luminosity can be precisely determined by modelling the measured Rutherford scattering distribution. The obtained results are in good agreement with an independent measurement based on the x-ray normalization method. Our new method provides an alternative way to precisely measure the luminosity in low-energy stored-beam configurations. This can be of great value in particular in dedicated low-energy storage rings where established methods are difficult or impossible to apply., 8 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

We report first precision mass measurements of the $1/2^-$ isomeric and $9/2^+$ ground states of $^{101}$In. The determined isomeric excitation energy continues a smooth trend of odd-$A$ indium isotopes up to the immediate vicinity of $N=50$ magic number. This trend can be confirmed by dedicated shell model calculations only if the neutron configuration mixing is considered. We find that the single particle energies are different for different states of the same isotope. The presented configuration-dependent shell evolution, type II shell evolution, in odd-$A$ nuclei is discussed for the first time. Our results will facilitate future studies of single-particle neutron states.

Abstract

The very first in-ring reaction experiment at the Cooler Storage Ring at the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL-CSR), namely proton elastic scattering on stable $^{58}\mathrm{Ni}$ nuclei, is presented. The circulating $^{58}\mathrm{Ni}^{19+}$ ions with an energy of 95 MeV/u were interacting repeatedly with an internal hydrogen gas target in the experimental storage ring (CSRe). Low-energy proton recoils from the elastic collisions were measured with an ultra-high vacuum compatible silicon-strip detector. Deduced differential cross sections were normalized by measuring $k$-shell x rays from $^{58}\mathrm{Ni}^{19+}$ projectiles due to the $^{58}\mathrm{Ni}^{19+}\text{\ensuremath{-}}{\mathrm{H}}_{2}$ ionization collisions. Compared to the experimental cross sections, a good agreement has been achieved with the theoretical predictions in the measured region, which were obtained by using the global phenomenological optical model potentials. Our results enable new research opportunities for optical model potential studies on exotic nuclides by using the in-ring reaction setup at the HIRFL-CSR facility.

Abstract

We report the first measurement of the inclusive jet and the dijet longitudinal double-spin asymmetries, ALL, at midrapidity in polarized pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy s=510 GeV. The inclusive jet ALL measurement is sensitive to the gluon helicity distribution down to a gluon momentum fraction of x≈0.015, while the dijet measurements, separated into four jet-pair topologies, provide constraints on the x dependence of the gluon polarization. Both results are consistent with previous measurements made at s=200 GeV in the overlapping kinematic region, x>0.05, and show good agreement with predictions from recent next-to-leading order global analyses.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study the flow field of the combustion chamber in a simulated rotary engine by using a computational approach. A dynamic mesh technique is employed to overcome the moving and shape varying computational domain inside the combustion chambers as the rotor is spinning. The key parameters include spark plug timing, leading side spark plug location and intake port location, which are used to investigate their influences on flow field and combustion performance of a rotary engine. It was discovered, with a dual spark plug configuration, that better flame propagation could be obtained through the change of ignition timing. In addition, to change the leading side spark plug location, it was also found that combustion efficiency is improved by shortening the distance from the top dead center (TDC) center line, which is consistent with available experimental results. This research also discovered that the intake port should be properly located in order to prevent pressure loss in the combustion chamber during the compression stroke.

Abstract

The state Y(2175) is observed in the process e+e-→ηY(2175) with a statistical significance larger than 10 standard deviations using the data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring at center-of-mass energies between 3.7 and 4.6 GeV. This is the first observation of the Y(2175) in this process. The mass and width of the Y(2175) are determined to be (2135±8±9) MeV/c2 and (104±24±12) MeV, respectively, and the production cross section (σ) of e+e-→ηY(2175)→ηϕf0(980)→ηϕπ+π- is at the several hundred femtobarn level. No significant signal for the process e+e-→η′Y(2175) is observed and the upper limit on σ(e+e-→η′Y(2175))/σ(e+e-→ηY(2175)) is estimated to be 0.43 at the 90% confidence level. We also search for ψ(3686)→ηY(2175). No significant signal is observed, indicating a strong suppression relative to the corresponding J/ψ decay, in violation of the “12% rule”.
