The subject of the analytical and experimental studies therein is of two metal seven-layer beam - plate bands. The first beam - plate band is composed of a lengthwise trapezoidally corrugated main core and two crosswise trapezoidally corrugated cores of faces. The second beam - plate band is composed of a crosswise trapezoidally corrugated main core and two lengthwise trapezoidally corrugated cores of faces. The hypotheses of deformation of a normal to the middle surface of the beams after bending are formulated. Equations of equilibrium are derived based on the theorem of minimum total potential energy. Three-point bending of the simply supported beams is theoretically and experimentally studied. The deflections of the two beams are determined with two methods, compared and presented.

Drought estimation and monitoring seems to be crucial both in agricultural activities as well as in water management. The aim of the study is to estimate the drought vulnerability of the Upper Silesia Region using selected drought indices. The evaluation was based on daily meteorological data from the period 1981-2010 and conducted for particular administrative units. On the basis of 30-years of observations the spatial distribution of drought phenomena as well as its intensity and duration was described. The communes particularly exposed to meteorological drought were indicated, also the regions where the phenomena are rare or even not observed. As the analyses were conducted using several drought indices, their applicability was evaluated for the region under consideration. The results showed that for drought monitoring over the region meteorological drought indices should be taken into account at the first stage but it is also necessary to diagnose the environmental conditions (especially geological formation and the relief). Despite high precipitation totals recorded the areas with very complex relief and unfavourable geological formation are prone to water shortage resulting the intensive run-off.

Late spring freeze events, a significant agroclimatic hazard, are investigated for Poland. Daily minimum air temperatures from 184 stations for the period 1951-2010 were used to analyze the frequency and conditional probability of late spring freezes. In addition, three classification schemes were employed to investigate the atmospheric circulation responsible for late spring freezes events. The findings suggest that knowledge of the airflow influencing late spring freezes can help to understand the complex historical trends and projected future changes in freeze risk for perennial crops

Objective classification of daily weather is performed for 9 vs. 5 stations of Poland and Hungary based on 30 years periods (1966-1995 and 1961-1990, respectively). Eight weather elements were pre-selected, and reduced to four, by Factor Analysis. They are the mean temperature, relative humidity, cloudiness and wind speed. The redundant elements are diurnal temperature amplitude, water vapour pressure, precipitation and sunshine duration. The omitted elements will be used for independent validation of the classification. Next, hierarchical cluster analysis is performed, having tested various other approaches, leading to six classes in Hungary and southern Poland and to eight classes in the rest of Poland, as the most frequent number of classes in all months and stations. Termination of the clustering, i.e. selection of the number classes is performed in an objective process applying three numerical criteria concerning the within-classes cumulated distance measures. Finally, the types have been re-defined by the method of K-means clustering. The obtained local classifications are compared to the macro-circulation types, based on variance “explaining” capacity concerning the above four basic and four independent variables. In overwhelming majority of the 12 months and 14 stations and 8 variables the obtained local types reduce the variances more effectively than the compared Péczely (1957) types for Hungary and the amalgamated Hess-Brezowsky (1969) types (Mika et al., 1999). These types are important tools in understanding the role of weather in the environmental indicators and in detection of climate change by presenting the processes in terms of weather types. Examples of both applications will be presented in the lecture and in its written version.

The aim of the study was to analyze the narratives of the Solidarity movement in upper-secondary level history textbooks, published between 1991 and 2018. Quantitative methods were used to measure different categories of historical figures in terms of their frequency and textual space, as well as any changes in representation over time. To explore the values and ideologies embedded in the textbook narratives of Solidarity, the study was guided by the qualitative approach and the critical discourse analysis of both verbal and visual texts. It seems that the content of the Polish history textbooks is not as susceptible to governmental and/or policy changes as initially assumed. Women consequently remain outside the historical narrative of Solidarity as a marginalized group. The study noticed oversimplification of historical and political complexity of Solidarity, with its major cost being the reproduction of socio-economic inequalities and gender stereotypes.

This paper analyses the Solidarity movement narratives, focusing on church representatives, religious issues, and symbols in the Polish history textbooks for upper secondary schools between 1991 and 2018. The analysed textbooks prove to reinforce Poland's national and religious identities, with John Paul II and the priest Popieluszko being the primary national heroes of the Solidarity movement. The Catholic Church is presented as a protector of national values during the Solidarity period. The study also reveals the gradual reduction and simplification of the textbooks' content. This tendency is a trigger for the polarisation of the historical discourse, posing a weapon for secular policies to misuse the ideological and symbolic roles of the Church in reproducing the Pole-Catholic pattern in history textbooks.

The paper presents the currently used procedures for calculating the deformation of concrete and creep coefficients. Laboratory research was conducted on the creep of concrete. Creep coefficients were calculated on the basis of experimentally obtained data and later compared to the ones acquired by using previously demonstrated procedures. In the case of the sample subjected to the influence of compressive stress and not exceeding the limit of linear creep, the models in Eurocode 2 and fib Model Code 2010 did not correspond to the experimentally obtained data.
