Abstract

Rare information on photodisintegration reactions of nuclei with mass numbers $A \approx 160$ at astrophysical conditions impedes our understanding of the origin of $p$-nuclei. Experimental determination of the key ($p,\gamma$) cross sections has been playing an important role to verify nuclear reaction models and to provide rates of relevant ($\gamma,p$) reactions in $\gamma$-process. In this paper we report the first cross section measurements of $^{160}$Dy($p,\gamma$)$^{161}$Ho and $^{161}$Dy($p,n$)$^{161}$Ho in the beam energy range of 3.4 - 7.0 MeV, partially covering the Gamow window. Such determinations are possible by using two targets with various isotopic fractions. The cross section data can put a strong constraint on the nuclear level densities and gamma strength functions for $A \approx$ 160 in the Hauser-Feshbach statistical model. Furthermore, we find the best parameters for TALYS that reproduce the A $\thicksim$ 160 data available, $^{160}$Dy($p,\gamma$)$^{161}$Ho and $^{162}$Er($p,\gamma$)$^{163}$Tm, and recommend the constrained $^{161}$Ho($\gamma,p$)$^{160}$Dy reaction rates over a wide temperature range for $\gamma$-process network calculations. Although the determined $^{161}$Ho($\gamma$, p) stellar reaction rates at the temperature of 1 to 2 GK can differ by up to one order of magnitude from the NON-SMOKER predictions, it has a minor effect on the yields of $^{160}$Dy and accordingly the $p$-nuclei, $^{156,158}$Dy. A sensitivity study confirms that the cross section of $^{160}$Dy($p$, $\gamma$)$^{161}$Ho is measured precisely enough to predict yields of $p$-nuclei in the $\gamma$-process., Comment: 12 pages,9 figures

Abstract

Back-streaming neutrons from the spallation target of the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) that emit through the incoming proton channel were exploited to build a white neutron beam facility (the so-called Back-n white neutron source), which was completed in March 2018. The Back-n neutron beam is very intense, at approximately 2*10^7 n/cm^2/s at 55 m from the target, and has a nominal proton beam with a power of 100 kW in the CSNS-I phase and a kinetic energy of 1.6 GeV and a thick tungsten target in multiple slices with modest moderation from the cooling water through the slices. In addition, the excellent energy spectrum spanning from 0.5 eV to 200 MeV, and a good time resolution related to the time-of-flight measurements make it a typical white neutron source for nuclear data measurements; its overall performance is among that of the best white neutron sources in the world. Equipped with advanced spectrometers, detectors, and application utilities, the Back-n facility can serve wide applications, with a focus on neutron-induced cross-section measurements. Abstract

The LaBr$_3$(Ce) detector has attracted much attention in recent years for its superior characteristics to other scintillating materials in terms of resolution and efficiency. However, it has relatively high intrinsic radiation background due to the naturally occurring radioisotope in lanthanum, actinium and their daughter nuclei. This limits its applications in low counting rate experiments. In this paper, we identified the radioactive isotopes in the $\phi3''\times 3''$ Saint-Gobain B380 detector by a coincidence measurement using a Clover detector in a low-background shielding system. Moreover, we carried out a Geant4 simulation to the experimental spectra to evaluate the activities of the main internal radiation components. % by means of the $\alpha$, $\gamma$ and $\beta$ decays from the $^{138}$La and $^{227}$Ac. The activity of radiation background of B380 is determined to be 1.480 (69) Bq/cm$^3$, the main sources of which include $^{138}$La of 1.425 (59) Bq/cm$^3$, $^{211}$Bi of 0.0136 (15) Bq/cm$^3$, $^{219}$Rn of 0.0125 (17) Bq/cm$^3$, $^{223}$Ra of 0.0127 (14) Bq/cm$^3$, and $^{227}$Th of 0.0158 (22) Bq/cm$^3$., Comment: 7 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables

Abstract

The high-spin structure of $^{109}$In was investigated with the $^{100}$Mo($^{14}$N, 5$n$)$^{109}$In fusion-evaporation reaction at CIAE, Beijing. Eleven new $\gamma$-rays of $^{109}$In were identified, by which the bandheads of the $\Delta I$=2 rotational bands were confirmed. The configurations were assigned with the help of the systematic discussion. Furthermore, the rotational bands are compared with the tilted-axis cranking calculations based on a relativistic mean-field approach. The rotational bands involving the $1p1h$ excitation to the $\pi$$d_{5/2}$ and $\pi$$g_{7/2}$ orbitals are suggested as candidates for antimagnetic rotation based on the theoretical results., Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures

Abstract

A Mini-Orange spectrometer used for in-beam measurements of internal conversion electrons, which consists of a Si(Li) detector and different sets of SmO$_5$ permanent magnets for filtering and transporting the conversion electrons to the Si(Li) detector, has been developed at China Institute of Atomic Energy. The working principle and configuration of the Mini-Orange spectrometer are described. The performance of the setup is illustrated by measured singles conversion electron spectra using the Mini-Orange spectrometer.

Abstract

High-spin level structure of the neutron-rich nucleus 91Y has been reinvestigated via the 82Se(13C, p3n)91Y reaction. A newly constructed level scheme including several key levels clarifies the uncertainties in the earlier studies. These levels are characterized by the breaking of the Z=38 and N=56 subshell closures, which involves in the spin-isospin dependent central force and tensor force.

Abstract

An investigation of the mesoscopic dynamics of chemical systems whose mass action equation gives rise to a deterministic chaotic attractor is carried out. A reactive lattice-gas model for the three-variable autocatalator is used to provide a mesoscopic description of the dynamics. The global and local dynamics is studied as a function of system size and diffusion coefficient. When the diffusion length is comparable to the system size phase coherence is maintained but the amplitudes of the oscillations are uncorrelated due to interaction between fluctuations and the instability of the chaotic dynamics. Abstract

The high-spin structure of $^{109}$In was investigated with the $^{100}$Mo($^{14}$N, 5$n$)$^{109}$In fusion-evaporation reaction at CIAE, Beijing. Eleven new $��$-rays of $^{109}$In were identified, by which the bandheads of the $��I$=2 rotational bands were confirmed. The configurations were assigned with the help of the systematic discussion. Furthermore, the rotational bands are compared with the tilted-axis cranking calculations based on a relativistic mean-field approach. The rotational bands involving the $1p1h$ excitation to the $��$$d_{5/2}$ and $��$$g_{7/2}$ orbitals are suggested as candidates for antimagnetic rotation based on the theoretical results., 10 pages, 9 figures

Abstract

Rare information on photodisintegration reactions of nuclei with mass numbers A ≈ 160 at astrophysical conditions impedes our understanding of the origin of p-nuclei. Experimental determination of the key (p, γ) cross sections has been playing an important role in verifying nuclear reaction models and providing rates of relevant (γ, p) reactions in the γ process. In this paper we report the first cross-section measurements of 160Dy(p, γ)161Ho and 161Dy(p, n)161Ho in the beam energy range of 3.4–7.0 MeV, partially covering the Gamow window. Such determinations are possible by using two targets with various isotopic fractions. The cross-section data can put a strong constraint on the nuclear level densities and gamma strength functions for A ≈ 160 in the Hauser–Feshbach statistical model. Furthermore, we find the best parameters for TALYS that reproduce the available A ∼ 160 data, 160Dy(p, γ)161Ho and 162Er(p, γ)163Tm, and recommend the constrained 161Ho(γ, p)160Dy reaction rates over a wide temperature range for γ process network calculations. Although the determined 161Ho(γ, p) stellar reaction rates at the temperature of 1 to 2 GK can differ by up to one order of magnitude from the NON-SMOKER predictions, it has a minor effect on the yields of 160Dy and accordingly the p-nuclei, 156,158Dy. A sensitivity study confirms that the cross section of 160Dy(p, γ)161Ho is measured precisely enough to predict yields of p nuclei in the γ process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

50. Scutellaria barbata Flavonoids Improve the Composited Aβ-induced Abnormal Changes in Glial Cells of the Brains of Rats

Abstract

Aim: It has been reported that glial cells are involved in Alzheimers disease (AD). In our previous research, Scutellaria barbata flavonoids (SBFs) were found to protect the AD-like rats from neuronal disorder and memory impairment; however, the effect of SBFs on the glial cells disorder in AD-like rats has been less studied. The effects of SBFs on astrocytes (ASs), microglial cells (MGs), and oligodendrocytes (Ols), as well as heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) and apolipoprotein E (ApoE), were investigated in the present study. Methods: The successful model rats, screened by Morris water maze, were orally administrated daily with 35, 70, and 140 mg/kg SBFs for 36 d. The number of brain astrocytes (ASs), microglial cells (MGs), and oligodendrocytes (Ols) was examined by immunohistochemistry. The expressions of cortical glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), leukocyte common antigen (LCA) (CD45), Claudin 11, and heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) protein were assayed by Western blotting, and the expression of apolipoprotein E (ApoE) mRNA was analyzed by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Results: Compared with the sham-operated group, the number of ASs and MGs in the brain was significantly increased in the model group (P<0.05, P<0.01), accompanied by an increase in the expressions of GFAP, CD45, Hsp70 protein, and ApoE mRNA (P<0.05, P<0.01). Both Ols number and the expression of Claudin 11 protein decreased in the brain in the model group (P<0.05, P<0.01). However, the above-mentioned abnormal changes induced by composited Aβ were differently reversed by the treatment of SBFs at three doses of 35, 70, and 140 mg/kg (P<0.05, P<0.01). Conclusion: SBFs can dramatically improve the abnormal changes in glial cells of the brains of rats, induced by composited Aβ, which may be utilized as a helpful treatment for neurodegenerative diseases.
