10. Effects of Sodium Selenite Application on Photosynthesis and Antioxidant Enzyme Activity of Tartary Buckwheat

Abstract

【Objective】 Selenium is a vital nutrient but deficient in many soils. Sodium selenium can be used as a selenium fertilizer. This paper investigates the impact of its application on photosynthesis and activity of antioxidant enzymes of Tartary buckwheat. 【Method】 The experiment was conducted in pots using the variety Xiyang as the model plant. There were 5 treatments by mixing the sodium selenite with soil at a ratio (weight /weight) ranging from 0 (control) to 40 mg/kg. In each treatment, we measured the height, fresh and dried weight, photosynthetic parameters, and antioxidant enzyme activities of the crop. 【Result】 ①Applying sodium selenite can significantly increase biomass and height of the crop, compared to the control, but only when application ratio did not exceed 10 mg/kg. ② Compared to the control, applying sodium selenite increased net photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance, and chlorophyll by 7.57%, 32.70%, 28.12% and 6.96% respectively, while reduced the intercellular CO2 concentration by 13.95%. It was found that applying 5 mg/kg of sodium selenite increased CO2 assimilation capacity. The effect of sodium selenite in improving the photosynthesis was most effective during the full flowering stage. ③Compared to the control, applying 5 mg/kg of sodium selenite increased activity of catalase by 3.29%; however, increasing the application to 10 mg/kg enhanced the activity of superoxide dismutase and peroxidase by 261.74% and 88.63%, respectively. ④The growth and development of Tartary buckwheat were inhibited when the concentrations of disodium selenite were 20 mg/kg and 40 mg/kg. 【Conclusion】 Our results show that applying sodium selenite to soil can improve photosynthesis and antioxidant enzyme activities of Tartary buckwheat, especially at the flowering stage, but only when the application ratio did not exceed 10 mg/kg.

27. Competitive and Cooperative electronic states in Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$T$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ with T=Co, Ni, Cr

Abstract

The electronic structure inhomogeneities in Co, Ni, and Cr doped BaFe2As2 122 single crystals are compared using scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/S) at the nanoscale within three bulk property regions in the phase diagram: a pure superconducting (SC) dome region (Co-122), a coexisting SC and antiferromagnetic (AFM) region (Ni-122), and a non-SC region (Cr-122). Machine learning is utilized to categorize the various nanometer scale inhomogeneous electronic states, described here as in-gap, L-shape and S-shape states immersed into the SC matrix for Ni-and Co-doped 122, and L-shape and S-shape states into the metallic matrix for Cr-doped 122. Although the relative percentages of in-gap, L-shape and S-shape states vary in the three samples, the total volume fraction of the three electronic states is quite similar. This is coincident with the number of electrons (Ni0.04 and Co0.08) and holes (Cr0.04) doped into the 122 compound. By combining the volume fractions of the three states, the local density of states (LDOS), magnetic field dependent behavior and global properties in these three samples, the in-gap state is confirmed as a magnetic impurity state from the Co or Ni dopants. In addition, the L-shape state is identified as a spin density wave (SDW) which competes with the SC phase, and the S-shape state is found to be another form of magnetic order which constructively cooperates with the SC phase, rather than competing with it. The comparison of the vortex structures indicates that the inhomogeneous electronic states serve as pinning centers for stabilizing the vortex lattice.

28. Large and Controllable Spin-Valley Splitting in Two-Dimensional WS2/h-VN Heterostructure

Abstract

Inspired by the profound physical connotations and potential application prospects of the valleytronics, we design a two-dimensional (2D) WS2/h-VN magnetic van der Waals (vdW) heterostructure and study the control of valley degree of freedom through the first-principles calculations. A considerable spin splitting of 627 meV is obtained at the K valley, accompanied with a strong suppression of that at the K' valley. An intrinsic large valley splitting of 376 meV is generated in the valence band, which corresponds to an effective Zeeman magnetic field of 2703 T. Besides of the valence band, the conduction band of WS2 possesses a remarkable spin splitting also, and valley labelled dark exciton states are present at the K' valley. The strengths of spin and valley splitting relied on the interfacial orbital hybridization are further tuned continually by the in-plane strain and interlayer spacing. Maximum spin and valley splitting of 654 and 412 meV are finally achieved, respectively, and the effective Zeeman magnetic field can be enhanced to 2989T with a -3 % strain. Time-reversal symmetry breaking and the sizable Berry curvature in the heterostructure lead to a prominent anomalous Hall conductivity at the K and K' valleys. Based on these finding, a prototype filter device for both the valley and spin is proposed.

37. Difference of hypotensive effect of sarcubitril / valsartan between hypertensive patients with increased and with normal left atrial diameter

Abstract

Objective To observe the difference of hypotensive effect of sarcubitril/valsartan between hypertensive patients with increased left atrial diameter (LAD) and with normal LAD. Methods A total of 80 patients who were diagnosed as essential hypertension in Nanjing First Hospital from June 2021 to January 2022 were selected, and they all did not take antihypertensive drugs in the past two weeks. According to the size of LAD, they were divided into first group (LAD≥40 mm, n=50) and second group (LAD＜40 mm, n=30) . After enrollment, all patients were given a daily dose of 100 mg of sarcubitril/valsartan. If the blood pressure reached the standard after 1 week［systolic blood pressure (SBP) ＜140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) ＜90 mmHg］, continue to use 100 mg of sarcubitril/valsartan. If not, increase the dose to 200 mg of sarcubitril/valsartan per day. If the blood pressure reaches the standard after 2 weeks, continue to use 200 mg dose. If the blood pressure does not reach the standard, add it to 400 mg dose per day or add other kinds of antihypertensive drugs according to the patient's individualized situation. The changes of blood pressure level and the rate of reaching the standard of blood pressure in the two groups for 4 weeks (28th day) were observed and compared. Results Compared with second group, the decrease of SBP ［7th day: (11.06±1.36) mmHg vs (7.53±1.31) mmHg, P＜0.01; 14th day: (19.70±2.62) mmHg vs (13.80±1.92) mmHg, P＜0.01］ and the decrease of DBP ［7th day: (5.76±2.63) mmHg vs (4.47±1.31) mmHg, P=0.014; 14th day: (10.02±3.17) mmHg vs (8.23±2.84) mmHg, P=0.013］ were significant higher in the first group. After four weeks, there was no significant difference in SBP, DBP levels and the distribution of proportion of combined use of antihypertensive drugs between the two groups (P＞0.05) . Conclusion Compared with hypertensive patients with normal LAD, sarcubitril/valsartan has a better effect on blood pressure reduction in patients with increased LAD is more superior, and the blood pressure reduction range is very obvious in the first two weeks after use.

Abstract

Combined scanning tunneling microscopy, spectroscopy and local barrier height (LBH) studies show that low-temperature-cleaved optimally-doped Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2 crystals with x=0.06, with Tc = 22 K, have complicated morphologies. Although the cleavage surface and hence the morphologies are variable, the superconducting gap maps show the same gap widths and nanometer size inhomogeneities irrelevant to the morphology. Based on the spectroscopy and LBH maps, the bright patches and dark stripes in the morphologies are identified as Ba and As dominated surface terminations, respectively. Magnetic impurities, possibly due to cobalt or Fe atoms, are believed to create local in-gap state and in addition suppress the superconducting coherence peaks. This study will clarify the confusion on the cleavage surface terminations of the Fe-based superconductors, and its relation with the electronic structures., Comment: Accepted to Nano Letters (5 figures)
