In this paper, we propose a photorealistic style transfer network to emphasize the natural effect of photorealistic image stylization. In general, distortion of the image content and lacking of details are two typical issues in the style transfer field. To this end, we design a novel framework employing the U-Net structure to maintain the rich spatial clues, with a multi-layer feature aggregation (MFA) method to simultaneously provide the details obtained by the shallow layers in the stylization processing. In particular, an encoder based on the dense block and a decoder form a symmetrical structure of U-Net are jointly staked to realize an effective feature extraction and image reconstruction. Besides, a transfer module based on MFA and "adaptive instance normalization" (AdaIN) is inserted in the skip connection positions to achieve the stylization. Accordingly, the stylized image possesses the texture of a real photo and preserves rich content details without introducing any mask or post-processing steps. The experimental results on public datasets demonstrate that our method achieves a more faithful structural similarity with a lower style loss, reflecting the effectiveness and merit of our approach.

In this study, a phenomenological model is proposed based on Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) theory and applied to investigate the two-proton ($2p$) radioactive half-lives of nuclei near or beyond the proton drip line. The total diproton-daughter nucleus interaction potential is composed of the Hulthen-type electrostatic term and the centrifugal term. The calculated $2p$ radioactive half-lives can accurately reproduce the existing 10 experimental datasets of five true $2p$ radioactive nuclei with $\sigma$ = 0.736. In addition, we extend this model to predict the half-lives of possible $2p$ radioactive nuclei whose $2p$ radioactivity is energetically allowed or observed but not yet quantified in NUBASE2016. The emission geometries, e.g. the emission region height, the beam shape, and radius-to-frequency mapping, are important predictions of pulsar radiation model. The multi-band radio observations carry such valuable information. In this paper, we study two bright pulsars, (PSRs B0329+54 and B1642-03) and observe them in high frequency (2.5 GHz, 5 GHz, and 8 GHz). The newly acquired data together with historical archive provide an atlas of multi-frequency profiles spanning from 100 MHz to 10 GHz. We study the frequency evolution of pulse profiles and the radiation regions with the these data. We firstly fit the pulse profiles with Gaussian functions to determine the phase of each component, and then calculate the radiation altitudes of different emission components and the radiation regions. We find that the inverse Compton scattering (ICS) model can reproduce the radiation geometry of these two pulsars. But for PSR B0329+54 the radiation can be generated in either annular gap (AG) or core gap (CG), while the radiation of PSR B1642-03 can only be generated in the CG. This difference is caused by the inclination angle and the impact angle of these two pulsars. The relation of beaming angle (the angle between the radiation direction and the magnetic axis) and the radiation altitudes versus frequency is also presented by modelling the beam-frequency evolution in the ICS model. The multi-band pulse profiles of these two pulsars can be described well by the ICS model combined with the CG and AG.

We perform a comprehensive first-principles study of the electronic properties of van der Waals (vdW) trilayers via intercalating a two-dimensional (2D) monolayer (ML = BN, MoSe2, WS2, or WSe2) between MoS2 bilayer to form various MoS2/ML/MoS2 sandwich trilayers. We find that the BN monolayer is the most effective sheet to decouple the interlayer vdW coupling of the MoS2 bilayer, and the resulting sandwich trilayer can recover the electronic structures of the MoS2 monolayer, particularly the direct-gap character. Further study of the MoS2/BN superlattices confirms the effectiveness of the BN monolayer for the decoupling of the MoS2-MoS2 interaction. In addition, the intercalation of transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) MoSe2 or WSe2 sheet renders the sandwich trilayer undergoing an indirect-gap to direct-gap transition due to the newly formed heterogeneous S/Se interfaces. In contrast, the MoS2/WS2/MoS2 sandwich trilayer still retains the indirect-gap character of the MoS2 bilayer due to the lack of the heterogeneous S/Se interfaces. Moreover, the 3D superlattice of the MoS2/TMDC heterostructures also exhibits similar electronic band characters as the MoS2/TMDC/MoS2 trilayer heterostructures, albeit slight decrease of the bandgap than the trilayers. Compared to the bulk MoS2, the 3D MoS2/TMDC superlattice can give rise to new and distinctive properties. We have measured the positions of 74 pulsars from regular timing observations using the Nanshan radio telescope at Urumqi Observatory between 2000 January and 2004 August (MJD 51500 -- 53240). Proper motions were determined for these pulsars by comparing their current positions with positions given in pulsar catalogues. We compare our results to earlier measurements in the literature and show that, in general, the values agree. New or improved proper motions are obtained for 16 pulsars. The effect of period fluctuations and other timing noise on the determination of pulsar positions is investigated. For our sample, the mean and rms transverse velocities are 443 and 224 km/s respectively, agreeing with previous work even though we determine distances using the new NE2001 electron density model., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures and 3 tables. In this paper we report unusual glitches in two young pulsars, PSR J1825-0935 (B1822-09) and PSR J1835-1106. For PSR J1825-0935, a slow glitch characterised by a temporary decrease in the slowdown rate occurred between 2000 December 31 to 2001 December 6. This event resulted in a permanent increase in frequency with fractional size $\Delta\nu/\nu\sim31.2(2)\times10^{-9}$, however little effect remained in slowdown rate. The glitch in PSR J1835-1106 occurred abruptly in November 2001 (MJD 52220\pm3) with $\Delta\nu/\nu\sim14.6(4)\times10^{-9}$ and little or no change in the slow-down rate. A significant change in $\ddot\nu$ apparently occurred at the glitch with $\ddot\nu$ having opposite sign for the pre- and post-glitch data., Comment: Latex format, six files, 5 pages with 4 figues. accepted for MNRAS

A starquake mechanism for pulsar glitches is developed in the solid quark star model. It is found that the general glitch natures (i.e., the glitch amplitudes and the time intervals) could be reproduced if solid quark matter, with high baryon density but low temperature, has properties of shear modulus \mu = 10^{30~34} erg/cm^3 and critical stress \sigma_c = 10^{18~24} erg/cm^3. A pulsar timing system has been operating in the 18-cm band at the Urumqi Astronomical Observatory 25-m telescope since mid-1999. Frequency resolution allowing dedispersion of the pulsar signals is provided by a 2X128X2.5 MHz filterbank/digitiser system. Observations of 74 pulsars over more than 12 months have resulted in updated pulsar periods and period derivatives, as well as improved positions. Comparison with previous measurements showed that the changes in period and period derivative tend to have the same sign and to be correlated in amplitude. A model based on unseen glitches gives a good explanation of the observed changes, suggesting that long-term fluctuations in period and period derivatives are dominated by glitches. In 2000 July, we detected a glitch of relative amplitude Delta_nu/nu~24X1e-9 in the Crab pulsar. According to the observational limits on the radius and mass, the fastest rotating pulsar (PSR 1937+21) is probably a strange star, or at least some neutron star equations of state should be ruled out, if we suggest that a dipole magnetic field is relevant to its radio emission. We carried out the Gaussian fitting to the profile of PSR B1237+25 and found that six components rather than five are necessary to make a good fit. In the central part, we found that the core emission is not filled pencil beam but is a small hollow cone. This implies that the impact angle could be $\beta<0.5^\circ$.
