Ultra‐high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber, with excellent light resistance, and chemical resistance, is one of the most important high‐performance fibers. However, the high hydrophobicity and crystallinity make it difficult to color, restricting the development of colored fluorescent UHMWPE protection materials. In this study, three hydrophobic fluorescent dyes (NC4, NC8, NC16) for fluorescent dyeing of UHMWPE were developed by introducing alkyl substituents of different lengths (butyl, octyl, and hexadecyl) and polar cyano groups onto 4‐NH‐1,8‐naphthalimide fluorescent chromophore. The relationship between the structures and the application performance was studied, and theoretical calculations were combined to explore the influence of the substituents on the spatial and electronic effects of fluorescent dyes. With the extension of the alkyl chain, the dye‐uptake rate and building‐up property was enhanced, and the equilibrium dye‐uptake rates for NC4, NC8, and NC16 were 18.21%, 93.22%, and 62.96%, respectively. NC8, which was proven to have high hydrophobicity and maximum dipole moment, exhibited the highest dye‐uptake rate. The dyed UHMWPE fabrics exhibited strong yellow‐green fluorescence. Aqueous zinc‐iodine (Zn─I2) battery is a promising energy storage system due to its inherent safety, high theoretical capacity, sustainability, and cost‐effectiveness. However, the shuttle effect of polyiodide severely affects the stable loading of active iodine and even accelerates the corrosion of the Zn anode, thus impeding its further advancement. Herein, a unique trimethylsulfonium cation (TMS+) with strong adsorption is proposed to stabilize both the iodine cathode and Zn anode. Benefiting from the robust interaction between TMS+ and polyiodide, the electrolyte can effectively immobilize large‐capacity iodine in the form of oily precipitate, thus avoiding the shuttle effect of polyiodide and the Zn corrosion. Additionally, TMS+ can be preferentially adsorbed on various Zn facets, inducing an electrostatic shielding effect to inhibit Zn dendrite growth. Consequently, Zn anode can be stably cycled over 3400 h at 5 mA cm−2/5 mAh cm−2, and a large areal capacity of 2.71 mAh cm−2 as well as long‐life stability over 6400 cycles is achieved for Zn─I2 battery. Furthermore, cation adsorption engineering is practically utilized in pouch cells, realizing superior fast‐charging stability over 790 cycles. This electrolyte modification with dual stabilizations is anticipated to be applied to other metal‐iodine batteries as a cost‐effective, facile, and safe strategy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The micro‐scale energy storage devices (MESDs) have experienced significant revolutions driven by developments in micro‐supercapacitors (MSCs) and micro‐batteries (MBs). This review summarizes the advancements of MSC and MB architecture, highlighting the electrode–electrolyte designs and the emergence of alkali metal ions aqueous batteries. The performance and synthesis of carbon quantum dots (CQDs), graphene quantum dots (GQDs), and their synergistic effects for energy storage applications are investigated. The focus is on integrating CQDs/GQDs into the MESDs for enhanced performance. The development of compositing CQD/GQD with other materials, reveals their capacitive and pseudocapacitive performance, extending the MESDs’ possibilities. Moreover, this review systematically covers various fabrication techniques from photolithography to printing techniques. The merits and practicality of each technique for fabricating MSCs and MBs are assessed. Electrochemical performance evaluation, capacitance enhancement, charge–discharge kinetics, and stability assessments are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of MESDs with practical applications. Despite significant progress, challenges remain, particularly in the scalability of fabrication and understanding long‐term stability. Nevertheless, the prospects are promising, with avenues in synthesis, fabrication, and electrochemical performance evaluation, which lead to a paradigm shift in MESDs. With the rapid development of micro/nano machining, there is an elevated demand for high-performance microdevices with high reliability and low cost. Due to their outstanding electrochemical, optical, electrical, and mechanical performance, carbon materials are extensively utilized in constructing microdevices for energy storage, sensing, and optoelectronics. Carbon micro/nano machining is fundamental in carbon-based intelligent microelectronics, multifunctional integrated microsystems, high-reliability portable/wearable consumer electronics, and portable medical diagnostic systems. Despite numerous reviews on carbon materials, a comprehensive overview is lacking that systematically encapsulates the development of high-performance microdevices based on carbon micro/nano structures, from structural design to manufacturing strategies and specific applications. This review focuses on the latest progress in carbon micro/nano machining toward miniaturized device, including structural engineering, large-scale fabrication, and performance optimization. Especially, the review targets an in-depth evaluation of carbon-based micro energy storage devices, microsensors, microactuators, miniaturized photoresponsive and electromagnetic interference shielding devices. Moreover, it highlights the challenges and opportunities in the large-scale manufacturing of carbon-based microdevices, aiming to spark further exciting research directions and application prospectives., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

In situ monitoring of H 2 O 2 in cellular microenvironments plays a critical role in the early diagnosis and pretreatment of cancer, but is limited by the lack of efficient and low-cost strategies for the large-scale preparation of real-time biosensors. Herein, a universal strategy for MXene-based composite inks combined with a scalable screen-printing process is validated in large-scale manufacturing of electrochemical biosensors for in situ detection of H 2 O 2 secreted from live cells. Compositing biocompatible carboxymethyl cellulose (CMCS) with excellent conductive MXene, a water-based ink electrode (MXene/CMCS) with tunable viscosity is efficiently printed with desirable printing accuracy. Subsequently, the MXene/CMCS@HRP electrochemical biosensor exhibits stable electrochemical performance through HRP nanoflower modification, showing rapid electron transport and high electrocatalytic capacity, and demonstrating a low limit of detection (0.29 μM) with a wide linear detection range (0.5 μM-3 mM), superior sensitivity (56.45 μA mM -1 cm -2 ), long-term stability and high anti-interference ability. Moreover, this electrochemical biosensor is effectively employed for in situ detection of H 2 O 2 secreted from HeLa cells, revealing good biocompatibility and outstanding biosensing capability. This proposed strategy not only extends the possibility of low-cost biomedical devices, but also provides a promising approach for early diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
