This study explores the potential of MoS2 monolayers as heavy metal sensors for As, Cd, Hg, and Pb using density functional theory (DFT) and Non-Equilibrium Green's Function (NEGF) simulations. Our findings reveal that As and Pb adsorption significantly alters the surface structure and electronic properties of MoS2, introducing impurity levels and reducing the band gap. Conversely, Cd and Hg exhibit weaker interactions with the MoS2 surface. The MoS2 monolayer sensors demonstrate exceptional sensitivity for all four target heavy metals, with values reaching 126,452.28% for As, 1862.67% for Cd, 427.71% for Hg, and 83,438.90% for Pb. Additionally, the sensors demonstrate selectivity for As and Pb through distinct response peaks at specific bias voltages. As and Pb adsorption also induces magnetism in the MoS2 system, potentially enabling magnetic sensing applications. The MoS2 monolayer's moderate adsorption energy facilitates rapid sensor recovery at room temperature for As, Hg, and Cd. Notably, Pb recovery time can be significantly reduced at elevated temperatures, highlighting the reusability of the sensor. This study explores the potential of β-SnSe monolayers as a promising material for ozone (O3) sensing using density functional theory (DFT) combined with the non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF) method. The adsorption characteristics of O3 molecules on the β-SnSe monolayer surface were thoroughly investigated, including adsorption energy, band structure, density of states (DOSs), differential charge density, and Bader charge analysis. Post-adsorption, hybridization energy levels were introduced into the system, leading to a reduced band gap and increased electrical conductivity. A robust charge exchange between O3 and the β-SnSe monolayer was observed, indicative of chemisorption. Recovery time calculations also revealed that the β-SnSe monolayer could be reused after O3 adsorption. The sensitivity of the β-SnSe monolayer to O3 was quantitatively evaluated through current-voltage characteristic simulations, revealing an extraordinary sensitivity of 1817.57% at a bias voltage of 1.2 V. This sensitivity surpasses that of other two-dimensional materials such as graphene oxide. This comprehensive investigation demonstrates the exceptional potential of β-SnSe monolayers as a highly sensitive, recoverable, and environmentally friendly O3 sensing material. Background: Group B streptococcus (GBS) colonized in late pregnancies has been associated with neonatal early-onset GBS disease (GBS-EOD) in China.Objective: This study investigated if GBS serotype and genotype in late pregnancy is associated with GBS-EOD, providing a reference for GBS-EOD prevention and treatment.Methods: A total of 298 pregnant women with GBS colonization during their late pregnancy and 32 invasive GBS-EOD cases were included in this study for GBS serotyping and genotyping using commercial kits and DNA sequencing.Results: We identified 266 GBS strains from mothers whose newborns were not infected with GBS-EOD. Serotype III [54.9% (146/266)] was the most common serotype, followed by Ib [17.3% (46/266)] and V [10.1% (27/266)]. ST19 was the most prevalent genotype [19.9% (53/266)], followed by ST862 [9.4% (25/266)] and ST12 [7.9% (21/266)]. We found that 32 mothers and their neonates with GBS-EOD had the same GBS strains. In 32 cases of GBS-EOD, the top three serotypes were III, Ia, and Ib, while the top three genotypes were ST17, ST23, and ST19. ST17 was the dominant genotype of serotype III, which was the most common prevalent in GBS-EOD [72.2% (13/18)], and ST23 was the dominant genotype of serotype Ia, the second most prevalent in GBS-EOD [87.5% (6/8)]. There were statistically significant differences in serotypes (p = 0.046) and genotypes (p = 0.000) distribution between the 266 pregnant women without GBS-EOD neonates and 32 cases of GBS-EOD.Conclusion: This study revealed a statistically significant associations of GBS serotype Ia, and ST17 and ST23 between GBS colonization in women during late pregnancy and in neonatal GBS-EOD. The GBS ST23 of serotype Ia and ST17 of serotype III possessed a strong pathogenicity.

As the most popular handheld tech tool in modern society, smartphones have been closely tied to people's lives. Previous studies widely discussed the negative influence of smartphone use on people's psychology and behavior. However, there is a paucity of research examined the relationship between smartphone use and the self from the perspective of self-expansion. Based on the self-expansion model, this study explored how the self changed as a result of smartphone use and also examined the underlying mediators such as cognitive absorption and online basic psychological need satisfaction. A sample of 866 Chinese adolescents reported on the anonymous questionnaires. The current results indicated that adolescents' smartphone use was positively related to self-expansion via smartphone. The mediating roles of cognitive absorption and online basic psychological need satisfaction were also validated. This study suggests that smartphone is an effective way for people to improve and expand themselves. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
