Abstract

Directional migration initiated at the wound edge leads epithelia to migrate in wound healing. How such coherent migration is achieved is not well understood. Here, we used electric fields to induce robust migration of sheets of human keratinocytes and developed an in silico model to characterize initiation and propagation of epithelial collective migration. Electric fields initiate an increase in migration directionality and speed at the leading edge. The increases propagate across the epithelial sheets, resulting in directional migration of cell sheets as coherent units. Both the experimental and in silico models demonstrated vector-like integration of the electric and default directional cues at free edge in space and time. The resultant collective migration is consistent in experiments and modeling, both qualitatively and quantitatively. The keratinocyte model thus faithfully reflects key features of epithelial migration as a coherent tissue in vivo, e.g. that leading cells lead, and that epithelium maintains cell-cell junction.

Abstract

Inverted NiOx‐based perovskite solar cells (PSCs) exhibit considerable potential because of their low‐temperature processing and outstanding excellent stability, while is challenged by the carriers transfer at buried interface owing to the inherent low carrier mobility and abundant surface defects that directly deteriorates the overall device fill factor. Present work demonstrates a chemical linker with the capability of simultaneously grasping NiOx and perovskite crystals by forming a Ni−S−Pb bridge at buried interface to significantly boost the carriers transfer, based on a rationally selected molecule of 1,3‐dimethyl‐benzoimidazol‐2‐thione (NCS). The constructed buried interface not only reduces the pinholes and needle‐like residual PbI2 at the buried interface, but also deepens the work function and valence band maximum positions of NiOx, resulting in a smaller VBM offset between NiOx and perovskite film. Consequently, the modulated PSCs achieved a high fill factor up to 86.24 %, which is as far as we know the highest value in records of NiOx‐based inverted PSCs. The NCS custom‐tailored PSCs and minimodules (active area of 18 cm2) exhibited a champion efficiency of 25.05 % and 21.16 %, respectively. The unencapsulated devices remains over 90 % of their initial efficiency at maximum power point under continuous illumination for 1700 hours. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Tumor microenvironment (TME)‐responsive nanozymes‐based catalytic therapy shows great potential in combating malignant tumor. However, their biological application still suffers from deficient catalytic activity. Herein, the MoOx‐Rh metallene nanozyme demonstrates highly efficient multiple enzymatic catalytic activities, where MoOx species atomically dispersed on Rh metallene surface. The resulting structures enable MoOx‐Rh metallene with maximally exposed active oxide‐metallene interface and more atoms sites around interface can be well finely regulated. Results of experiment and density functional theory (DFT) simulations support the notion that atomic interface structure facilitates multiple enzyme‐like reactions. As a TME‐responsive nanozyme, MoOx‐Rh metallene exhibits remarkable therapeutic effect of tumor due to intrinsic near‐infrared photothermal effect and laser‐enhanced multiple enzymatic catalytic activities. Abstract

When a constraint is removed, confluent cells migrate directionally into the available space. How the migration directionality and speed increase are initiated at the leading edge and propagate into neighboring cells are not well understood. Using a quantitative visualization technique-Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV)-we revealed that migration directionality and speed had strikingly different dynamics. Migration directionality increases as a wave propagating from the leading edge into the cell sheet, while the increase in cell migration speed is maintained only at the leading edge. The overall directionality steadily increases with time as cells migrate into the cell-free space, but migration speed remains largely the same. A particle-based compass (PBC) model suggests cellular interplay (which depends on cell-cell distance) and migration speed are sufficient to capture the dynamics of migration directionality revealed experimentally. Extracellular Ca2+ regulated both migration speed and directionality, but in a significantly different way, suggested by the correlation between directionality and speed only in some dynamic ranges. Our experimental and modeling results reveal distinct directionality and speed dynamics in collective migration, and these factors can be regulated by extracellular Ca2+ through cellular interplay. Quantitative visualization using PIV and our PBC model thus provide a powerful approach to dissect the mechanisms of collective cell migration.

49. Direct Growth of Vertical Graphene on Fiber Electrodes and Its Application in Alternating Current Line-Filtering Capacitors

Abstract

Fiber-shaped electrochemical capacitors (FSECs) have garnered substantial attention to emerging portable, flexible, and wearable electronic devices. However, achieving high electronic and ionic conductivity in fiber electrodes while maintaining a large specific surface area is still a challenge for enhancing the capacitance and rapid response of FSECs. Here, we present an electric-field-assisted cold-wall plasma-enhanced chemical vapor (EFCW-PECVD) method for direct growth of vertical graphene (VG) on fiber electrodes, which is incorporated in the FSECs. The customized reactor mainly consists of two radio frequency coils: one for plasma generation and the other for substrate heating. Precise temperature control can be achieved by adjusting the conductive plates and the applied power. With induction heating, only the substrate is heated to above 500 °C within just 5 min, maintaining a low temperature in the gas phase for the growth of VG with a high quality. Using this method, VG was easily grown on metallic fibers. The VG-coated titanium fibers for FSECs exhibit an ultrahigh rate performance and quick ion transport, enabling the conversion of an alternating current signal to a direct current signal and demonstrating outstanding filtering capabilities.

50. Fast Space Charge Measurement of Power Module Packaging Insulation Under Square Wave Voltage Based on High Repetition Frequency Pulsed Electroacoustic Method

Abstract

High voltage power module packaging insulation such as silicone encapsulating elastomer endures unipolar square wave voltage with short transient time (~100 ns, high dV/dt) due to the recent booming of wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductor, which results in space charge accumulation and easier packaging failure compared with the traditional power equipment operating under 50/60 Hz sinusoidal stress. However, the charge dynamic behavior under the high-frequency square wave voltage with short transient time (rising/falling edge) is seldom reported due to the lack of fast space charge measurement. This article proposes a fast space charge measuring system based on a high repetition frequency pulsed electroacoustic (PEA) method. The measuring system mainly includes a nanosecond stimulating pulse generator with repetitive frequency up to 3 MHz based on the Blumlein line, a high voltage square wave source capable of generating the same electric stress as that in WBG power module packaging, and an electrode system with properly set resistor and capacitor. Then, space charge accumulation with time in silicone elastomer under square wave voltage is observed and analyzed by the proposed sub-megahertz repetition PEA measurement. In addition, the effect of the transient time of square wave voltage on charge transport is explored, showing that more charges reside in the tested silicone elastomer for the 100 ns transient time than the $10~\mu $ s transient time. The charge decay near the cathode, anode, and bulk part also presents different patterns which may be related to the energies of trapped charges, electrode-insulation contact, and internal electric field distribution.
