IPAD program has provided direction, focus and software products which impacted on CAD/CAM data base research and follow-on research. The relationship of IPAD to the research projects which involve the storage of geometric data in common data ase facilities such as data base machines, the exchange of data between heterogeneous data bases, the development of IGES processors, the migration of lrge CAD/CAM data base management systems to noncompatible hosts, and the value of RIM as a research tool is described.

13. Interactive graphics for geometry modeling

Abstract

An interactive vector capability to create geometry and a raster color shaded rendering capability to sample and verify interim geometric design steps through color snapshots is described. The development is outlined of the underlying methodology which facilitates computer aided engineering and design. At present, raster systems cannot match the interactivity and line-drawing capability of refresh vector systems. Consequently, an intermediate step in mechanical design is used to create objects interactively on the vector display and then scan convert the wireframe model to render it as a color shaded object on a raster display. Several algorithms are presented for rendering such objects. Superquadric solid primitive extend the class of primitives normally used in solid modelers.

20. Structure and functional expression of cloned rat serotonin 5HT‐2 receptor.

Abstract

A complementary DNA (cDNA) encoding a serotonin receptor with 51% sequence identity to the 5HT‐1C subtype was isolated from a rat brain cDNA library by homology screening. Transient expression of the cloned cDNA in mammalian cells was used to establish the pharmacological profile of the encoded receptor polypeptide. Membranes from transfected cells showed high‐affinity binding of the serotonin antagonists spiperone, ketanserin and mianserin, low affinity for haloperidol (a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist), 8‐OH‐DPAT as well as MDL‐72222 and no detectable binding of [3H]serotonin. This profile is consonant with the 5HT‐2 subtype of serotonin receptors. In agreement with this assignment, serotonin increased the intracellular Ca2+ concentration and activated phosphoinositide hydrolysis in transfected mammalian cells. The agonist also elicited a current flow, blocked by spiperone, in Xenopus oocytes injected with in vitro synthesized RNA containing the cloned nucleotide sequences.

The convergence properties of the hyperconical search algorithm are investigated and the scheme is applied to the problem of identifying twenty-two constants of a given chemical reaction from measured data.

35. Epigeic spiders of the pastures of northern Wielkopolska

Abstract

The fauna of epigeic spiders (Araneae) occurring on three different types of pastures in northern Wielkopolska was analysed. Studies were conducted from May 1992 to October 1993. The 18,995 specimens collected were classified as belonging to 137 species and 17 families. The family Linyphiidae proved the richest in species while Lycosidae was the most abundantly in terms of number of specimens. Zoocenological analysis of spider communities showed their differentiation testifying to differences in the sites studied. The dominants were: 1) Osowo Stare (Site 1): Pardosa palustris, 2) Sycyn Dolny (Site 2): Xerolycosa miniata, P. palustris, Xysticus kochi, 3) Braczewo (Site 3): Erigone dentipalpis, P. palustris. Seasonal changes of dominance of the species at each site were established. A comparison of changes of the species’ dominances in the years 1992 and 1993 disclosed similar values of the individual dominance coefficient at the sites in Osowo Stare and Braczewo. This result indicates the occurrence of the process of stabilization of these biocenoses and a tendency to equilibrium in the environment. The least stable proved to be the site at Sycyn Dolny. Analysis of the seasonal dynamics of epigeic spider communities was also made by determining the mean number of species at each site in the two years of study. The highest number of species was noted in spring. It is interesting to note the appearance of species which are rare or very rare in Poland such as: Lepthyphantes insignis, Ostearius melanopygius, Enoplognatha mordax and Enoplognatha oelandica.
