Objective: Wound care is an important component of nursing care, consuming a significant amount of working hours. Literature reports the existence of many barriers to evidence-based wound care and that nursing students have an increasing need for education in this field. While blended learning activities have shown some benefits in learning outcomes, dedicated wound care modules within baccalaureate nursing courses occur infrequently. The aim of this study was to facilitate an increase in confidence and knowledge of evidence-based wound care in third-year baccalaureate nursing students., Method: In this descriptive pre-post research design, a dedicated wound care module within a baccalaureate nursing course (using a constructivist learning approach) was offered to students in a university in Australia. Pre- and post-implementation surveys were completed (2018-2020). Due to a small number of matching participants, only descriptive statistics were calculated for all variables., Results: A total of 276 students were invited to respond to the survey and 41 responded initially, 35 responded post the wound care module, and 26 responded to the survey after six months. Positive outcomes were noted in increased levels of confidence in the student nurses' ability to assess, manage and prevent wounds; as well as to apply evidence-based practice and change management following the educational wound care module within the baccalaureate nursing course., Conclusion: Implementation of a dedicated wound care module within a baccalaureate nursing course in this sample of third-year students fostered a positive change in the knowledge of evidence-based wound management, assessment and prevention. Education of the next generation of registered nurses in this valuable area of practice is an important part of baccalaureate nursing education.

Background: Trauma-informed care (TIC) requires health care providers and organizations to provide care in a way that assumes everyone has a trauma history (Hopper et al.). Although there has been a recent rise to investigate TIC within various nursing specialties, knowledge related to integrating TIC into nursing curricula remains unclear., Method: An integrative review following Whittemore and Knafl procedures synthesized the literature related to TIC in undergraduate nursing education., Results: Five themes surfaced: (1) isolated tic integration in undergraduate courses; (2) TIC for safe learning environments; (3) inconsistent TIC definitions in nursing education; (4) prerequisite nurse educator training; and (5) students recognizing an implementation gap and seeking solutions., Conclusion: This review highlights TIC integration challenges in nursing education, emphasizing the need for ongoing research, training, and collaboration. Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of first principles of instruction on trauma management skills for undergraduate nursing students., Method: Two hundred twenty-four nursing students from Fujian Medical University were divided into control and experimental groups. Participants in the experimental group applied first principles of instruction and introduced design modifications to acquire trauma management skills., Results: Scores for trauma management skills were significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group. In addition, 89% of students strongly agreed with using first principles of instruction and indicated satisfaction with the teaching mode., Conclusion: First principles of instruction enhance theoretical understanding of trauma management skills, with significant score differences between experimental and control groups. High student satisfaction underscores the effectiveness of this approach in creating a conducive learning environment. Background: The number of patients who have experienced violence is increasing worldwide. These patients have specific psychosocial and forensic needs and can present unique challenges to the health care workers caring for them., Objective: To identify best practices for the care of patients with injuries from violence in the emergency department or inpatient setting., Methods: The framework for integrative reviews by Whittemore and Knafl was used to conduct a literature search in MEDLINE, CINAHL, and ProQuest Nursing and Allied Health databases. Fourteen qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods studies from peer-reviewed journals were included in the review., Results: Themes included identifying patients as survivors of intimate partner violence or child abuse, the need to collect forensic evidence, the need for emotional support of patients and their loved ones, support for health care workers caring for patients with injuries from violence, prevention of further violence, and the challenges of caring for patients with injuries from violence with concurrent substance use disorders. Best practices for these aspects of care are summarized on the basis of literature analysis., Conclusion: Screening procedures are needed to identify survivors of intimate partner violence and child abuse. Forensic evidence preservation policies should be in place. For survivors of sexual assault, a sexual assault nurse examiner should be available. Background: Chronic wounds present significant challenges for patients and nursing care teams worldwide. Digital health tools offer potential for more standardised and efficient nursing care pathways but require further rigorous evaluation., Objective: This retrospective matched cohort study aimed to compare the impacts of a digital tracking application for wound documentation versus traditional manual nursing assessments., Methods: Data from 5236 patients with various wound types were analysed. Propensity score matching balanced groups, and bivariate tests, correlation analyses, linear regression, and Hayes' Process Macro Model 15 were utilised for a mediation-moderation model., Results: Digital wound tracking was associated with significantly shorter healing durations (15 vs. 35 days) and fewer clinic nursing visits (3 vs. 5.8 visits) compared to standard nursing monitoring. Digital tracking demonstrated improved wound size reduction over time. Laboratory values tested did not consistently predict healing outcomes. Digital tracking exhibited moderate negative correlations with the total number of nursing visits. Regression analysis identified wound complexity, hospitalizations, and initial wound size as clinical predictors for more nursing visits in patients with diabetes mellitus (p < .01). Digital tracking significantly reduced the number of associated nursing visits for patients with peripheral vascular disease., Conclusion: These findings suggest that digital wound management may streamline nursing care and provide advantages, particularly for comorbid populations facing treatment burdens., Reporting Method: This study adhered to STROBE guidelines in reporting this observational research., Relevance to Clinical Practice: By streamlining documentation and potentially shortening healing times, digital wound tracking could help optimise nursing resources, enhance wound care standards, and improve patient experiences. School nurses are critical components of school-based interdisciplinary teams supporting student behavioral health. The purpose of the present study is to understand the extent to which school nurses in New Mexico across grade levels manage emergencies related to behavioral health, violence, and trauma. The study also seeks to identify which topics the school nurses received continuing education (CE) for, and which topics they consider to be important to their practice. Analyses of 2019 statewide survey data show a considerable number of school nurses in New Mexico provide management for behavioral health, violence, and trauma-related emergencies, and nurses in secondary schools are significantly more likely than nurses in primary schools to report managing these emergencies and to have received CE on behavioral health topics. Events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine have increased people's awareness of mental health issues. Psychological trauma impacts patients in the acute care setting through physical and mental health presentations. Trauma is a public health issue crossing all socioeconomic groups and is related to social determinants of health. Trauma-informed care (TIC) is an evidence-based approach to providing care. TIC is within the scope of nursing practice and improves outcomes for patients. However, there is a lack of standard terms or practices within healthcare. Additionally, there is superficial acknowledgment of the need for TIC at the local or national level regarding policy. Nurses need to adopt TIC into practice and advocate for policy change to improve the health and lives of those seeking care.

Nurses working with major trauma patients in ward environments in the UK are expected to evidence their knowledge and skills in a set of national competencies. This article describes a bespoke major trauma course and a coaching and portfolio development programme designed to enhance ward nurses' knowledge and skills, help them evidence their competence and support their professional development. Evaluation of the course showed an overall improvement in nurses' self-rated competence and confidence in a range of relevant major trauma topics and clinical skills. This article is an executive summary of the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society's (WOCN) 2024 Guideline for Management of Wounds in Patients With Lower Extremity Arterial Disease. It is part of the Society's Clinical Practice Guideline Series. This article presents an overview of the systematic process used to update and develop the guideline. It also lists specific recommendations from the guideline for screening and diagnosis, assessment, management, and education of patients with wounds due to lower extremity arterial disease (LEAD). Suggestions for implementing recommendations from the guideline are also summarized. The guideline is a resource for WOC nurse specialists, other nurses, and health care professionals who work with adults who have/or are at risk of wounds due to LEAD. Background: The poor prognosis and clinical presentation of malignant fungating wounds (MFWs) can lead to service users experiencing various dimensions of fear., Aim: This article encourages district nurses (DNs) to explore the psychological factors associated with MFWs in the community setting., Method: The reviewed literature discusses DN practice, with supplementary sources utilised to provide a wider perspective on the multifaceted nature of the subject., Findings: Guidelines advocate that DNs should promptly initiate dialogue to address fears, establish trust and enable service users with MFWs to express concerns, thus facilitating a holistic provision of care. It is crucial to leverage the multidisciplinary team and engage with other agencies to provide support for service users. Effective leadership qualities play a vital role in initiating practice changes that ultimately benefit service users, while also considering clinical governance aspects.

Xylazine-associated wounds are a distinct, novel clinical entity characterized by co-occurrence with substance use, progressive necrosis of skin, muscle, tendon, and bone, and slow healing. In Philadelphia, the specter of limb loss, stigma, and shame has hung over hospital-based care for xylazine-associated wounds among people who use drugs (PWUD) and kept many people away from engaging in care. Continued engagement in harm reduction wound care nursing, however, offers an opportunity for PWUD to address their wounds and their fears with members of the medical world. In the absence of established best practices, harm reduction's model of risk-reductive care offers a way forward for patients and practitioners alike. Here, "harm reduction" describes an ethic of practical, trauma-informed, patient-centered care. Aim: This research aimed to uncover elements of a comprehensive, trauma-informed (TI) multidisciplinary health professions simulation framework to improve the delivery of care to traumatized patients., Background: Trauma is a pervasive public health problem requiring a TI approach. Simulation is an evidence-based teaching strategy that advances knowledge and clinical reasoning. There is a lack of scientifically based simulation education models addressing the delivery of TI care for the health professions., Method: A Delphi study utilizing a panel of experts was conducted to identify the most critical elements of a simulation framework., Results: Phase one identified 10 content areas and 111 subcontent areas. Aim: This study provides an overview of the literature to identify and map the types of available evidence on self-supporting mobile applications used by nurses in wound care regarding their development, evaluation and outcomes for patients, nurses and the healthcare system., Design: Scoping review., Review Method: Joanna Briggs Institute scoping review methodology was used., Data Sources: A search was performed using MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL (via EBSCO), Web of Science, LiSSa (Littérature Scientifique en Santé), Cochrane Wounds, Érudit and grey literature, between April and October 2022, updated in April 2023, to identify literature published in English and French., Results: Eleven studies from 14 publications met the inclusion criteria. Mostly descriptive, the included studies presented mobile applications that nurses used, among other things, to assess wounds and support clinical decision-making. The results described how nurses were iteratively involved in the process of developing and evaluating mobile applications using various methods such as pilot tests. The three outcomes most frequently reported by nurses were as follows: facilitating care, documentation on file and access to evidence-based data., Conclusion: The potential of mobile applications in wound care is within reach. Nurses are an indispensable player in the successful development of these tools., Implications for the Profession and Patient Care: If properly developed and evaluated, mobile applications for wound care could enhance nursing practices and improve patient care. Geriatric emergency management (GEM) nursing has emerged as a critical response to the increasing number of emergency department (ED) visits by older people, particularly in North America and specifically in Canada. This demographic often presents with complex medical conditions and atypical disease manifestations. The GEM programme, implemented in Ontario, Canada, aims to provide targeted assessment and establish community connections for frail older individuals, helping prevent their decline and loss of independence. There is a significant demand for specialised wound care services in EDs and frontline ED staff have a limited capacity to provide these. Advanced wound management was integrated into the GEM nursing scope of practice in an initiative. Patients who received wound care from GEM nurses and clinical nurse specialists had positive outcomes; those treated by GEM nurses had shorter wait times. Although the wound care role requires additional training and adds to the GEM nurse workload, the advantages appear substantial. Merging geriatric-focused care with specialist wound management may significantly benefit the care and satisfaction of older people attending the ED, as well as improve patient flow in the ED. This initiative requires further consideration by healthcare leaders and policymakers.

Management of hard-to-heal wounds remains a significant challenge for healthcare systems, with substantial economic burdens. Maggot debridement therapy, using sterile larvae of Lucilia sericata , effectively debrides necrotic tissue and promotes healing, yet its use is limited. This narrative review examines the influences on the use of this form of debridement by registered nurses, focusing on knowledge and attitudes, treatment-related pain, and practical issues. Findings indicate that wound specialist nurses are more knowledgeable and supportive of maggot debridement therapy compared with non-wound specialists, underscoring the need for targeted educational interventions. Pain management is critical, with mixed reports on pain levels, highlighting the necessity for tailored pain-relief strategies. Practical challenges include procurement difficulties and cost, suggesting a need for streamlined processes and clear clinical guidelines. Addressing these barriers through education, research, and improved logistics could enhance the acceptance and use of maggot debridement therapy, improving patient outcomes in wound management.

Aims: To explore the effectiveness of interventions to enhance patient participation in shared decision-making in wound care and tissue viability., Background: Caring for people living with a wound is complex due to interaction between wound healing, symptoms, psychological wellbeing and treatment effectiveness. To respond to this complexity, there has been recent emphasis on the importance of delivering patient centred wound care and shared decision-making to personalise health care. However, little is known about the effectiveness of existing interventions to support shared decision-making in wound care., Design: Systematic review of interventional studies to enhance shared decision-making in wound care or tissue viability. This was reported following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines 2020., Methods: Interventional primary research studies published in English up to January 2023 were included. Screening, data extraction and quality appraisal were undertaken independently by two authors., Data Sources: Medline, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trails (trials database), CINAHL, British Nursing Index (BNI), WorldCat (thesis database), Scopus and registries of ongoing studies (ISRCTN registry and clinicaltrials.gov)., Results: 1063 abstracts were screened, and eight full-text studies included. Findings indicate, interventions to support shared decision-making are positively received. Goal or need setting components may assist knowledge transfer between patient and clinician, and could lower short term decisional conflict. Background: About 3.5 million trauma patients are hospitalized every year, but 35%-40% require further care after discharge. Nurses' ability to affect discharge disposition by minimizing the occurrence of nurse-sensitive indicators (catheter-associated urinary tract infection [CAUTI], central line-associated bloodstream infection [CLABSI], and hospital-acquired pressure injury [HAPI]) is unknown. These indicators may serve as surrogate measures of quality nursing care., Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine whether nursing care, as represented by three nurse-sensitive indicators (CAUTI, CLABSI, and HAPI), predicts discharge disposition in trauma patients., Methods: This study was a secondary analysis of the 2021 National Trauma Data Bank. We performed logistic regression analyses to determine the predictive effects of CAUTI, CLABSI, and HAPI on discharge disposition, controlling for participant characteristics., Results: A total of n = 29,642 patients were included, of which n = 21,469 (72%) were male, n = 16,404 (64%) were White, with a mean (SD) age of 44 (14.5) and mean (SD) Injury Severity Score of 23.2 (12.5). We created four models to test nurse-sensitive indicators, both individually and compositely, as predictors. While CAUTI and HAPI increased the odds of discharge to further care by 1.4-1.5 and 2.1 times, respectively, CLABSI was not a statistically significant predictor., Conclusions: Both CAUTI and HAPI are statistically significant predictors of discharge to further care for patients after traumatic injury. Healing is a difficult concept to describe, quantify, or replicate. It is a complex mixture of personal contributions from the professional providing care, including competence, compassion, and empathy, that conjoins with the needs, sensitivities, and receptivity of the one who is receiving the care. Although it may be difficult to predict all the elements that come together to initiate sustained healing, as well as the long-term impact, it is important to observe the moments that make a difference. Aim(s): To demonstrate how interoperable nursing care data can be used by nurses to create a more holistic understanding of the healthcare needs of multiple traumas patients with Impaired Physical Mobility. By proposing and validating linkages for the nursing diagnosis of Impaired Physical Mobility in multiple trauma patients by mapping to the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC) and Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC) equivalent terms using free-text nursing documentation., Design: A descriptive cross-sectional design, combining quantitative analysis of interoperable data sets and the Kappa's coefficient score with qualitative insights from cross-mapping methodology and nursing professionals' consensus., Methods: Cross-mapping methodology was conducted in a Brazilian Level 1 Trauma Center using de-identified records of adult patients with a confirmed medical diagnosis of multiple traumas and Impaired Physical Mobility (a nursing diagnosis). The hospital nursing free-text records were mapped to NANDA-I, NIC, NOC and NNN linkages were identified. The data records were retrieved for admissions from September to October 2020 and involved medical and nursing records. Three expert nurses evaluated the cross-mapping and linkage results using a 4-point Likert-type scale and Kappa's coefficient., Results: The de-identified records of 44 patients were evaluated and then were mapped to three NOCs related to nurses care planning: (0001) Endurance; (0204) Immobility Consequences: Physiological, and (0208) Mobility and 13 interventions and 32 interrelated activities: (6486) Environmental Management: Safety; (0840) Positioning; (3200) Aspiration Precautions; (1400) Pain Management; (0940) Traction/Immobilization Care; (3540) Pressure Ulcer Prevention; (3584) Skincare: Topical Treatment; (1100) Nutrition Management; (3660) Wound Care; (1804) Self-Care Assistance: Toileting; (1801) Self-Care Assistance: Bathing/Hygiene; (4130) Fluid Monitoring; and (4200) Intravenous Therapy. The final version of the constructed NNN Linkages identified 37 NOCs and 41 NICs., Conclusion: These valid NNN linkages for patients with multiple traumas can serve as a valuable resource that enables nurses, who face multiple time constraints, to make informed decisions efficiently. Background: Older and very old persons have an increased risk of traumatic injuries as well as comorbidities and multimorbidities. The standardized workflow in hospitals can increase the occurrence of typical geriatric complications, such as challenging behavior and delirium, which can result in highly complex care situations. The application of advanced practice nurses (APN) is an international response to such challenges. In Germany, the scientifically based development of APN has so far lagged behind the international standard., Method: For this scoping review, a systematic search in the databases PubMed and CINAHL and a supplementary hand search was conducted for the period 2010-2022., Results: Tasks and role profiles for the scope of practice of APN in geriatrics and traumatology already exist in the literature. There is a lack of scientifically proven tasks and role profiles for APN in geriatric traumatology in the literature., Discussion: Based on the current state of research it is not yet possible to derive specific tasks and role profiles for APN in geriatric traumatology. The transferability of tasks and profiles from geriatrics and traumatology seem to be possible. Objectives: Despite numerous published concept analyses of nursing competency, the specific understanding of trauma nursing competency in emergency departments remains limited, with no clear definition. This study aimed to clarify the definitions and attributes of trauma nursing competencies in emergency departments., Design: Walker and Avant's method was used to clarify the concept of trauma nursing competency in emergency departments., Data Sources: PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL and RISS were searched from inception to 23 April 2023., Eligibility Criteria: Relevant studies that included combinations of the terms 'nurse', 'nursing', 'emergency', 'trauma', 'competency', 'capability' and 'skill' were selected. We restricted the literature search to English and Korean full-text publications, with no limit on the publication period; grey literature was excluded., Data Extraction and Synthesis: This study uses defining attributes, antecedents and consequences extracted through data analysis. To aid comprehension of the model, related and contrary cases of the concept were created, and empirical referents were defined., Results: After excluding duplicates, irrelevant studies, incomplete texts and articles unrelated to the context and study population, 15 of the initial 927 studies were included. Five additional studies were added after a manual search of the references. The final concept analysis therefore included 20 studies. Purpose: To gain an understanding of the nursing professionals who treat people with malignant fungating wounds (MFW) in the UK and their current practices, including perceived barriers and facilitators to providing MFW care., Method: An online anonymous questionnaire was created with questions about the role of nursing professionals who reported caring for patients with MFW, the number of people with MFW they regularly cared for, treatment aims, treatments used, and challenges faced. These questions were developed with professional input and piloted. Using a convenience sampling method, we collected responses from UK nurses by distributing the questionnaire via social media and through relevant professional organisations. The questionnaire was constructed in QualtricsXM software and analysed using SPSS., Result: We received 154 questionnaire responses, with three-quarters from tissue viability nurses and the rest from community and other specialist nurses. The most important treatment aim reported was pain management, followed by odour management. Almost all respondents used antimicrobial and standard dressings for these patients, with a range of products reported. Poor access to MFW care training and lack of local and national guidelines were reported as barriers to providing care for people with MFW. Availability of dressings, access to training, and good communication processes were reported as facilitators., Conclusion: This is the first study to explore MFW wound care practices in the UK. A range of nurses are involved in care delivery with variations in the treatments used. Background: Undergraduate nursing students experience significant differences between practice with models, manikins, or simulation applications and real patients in a clinical setting. Students' experiences applying their theoretical knowledge to real patient-care practices are little understood., Objective: To determine the experiences of nursing students in providing skin, chronic wound, and ostomy care to real patients for the first time in a clinical setting within the content of the Ostomy and Wound Care Nursing Track Program (OWCNTP) and to define factors affecting this program., Methods: The research was conducted qualitatively using the individual critical incident technique, and 17 senior undergraduate nursing students enrolled in the Nursing OWCNTP were selected using a simple random sampling method. In the classroom setting, individual face-to-face interviews were conducted using the critical incident technique. Data were analyzed with inductive content analysis., Results: The research found that students experience genuine caregiving in putting their experiences from the Track Program into practice with real patients in a clinical setting. Three main themes were identified: experiencing real patient care in a clinical setting, being a competent student, and being a novice student., Conclusions: The study found that nursing students enrolled in the OWCNTP could apply their theoretical knowledge to care for real patients in clinical settings. Background: Experiencing symptoms of traumatic stress may be the cost of caring for trauma patients. Emergency nurses caring for trauma patients are at risk for traumatic stress reactions., Objective: This study explored the stress and coping behaviors experienced by emergency nurses who provide trauma care., Methods: Focus groups were held at three urban trauma centers in the Midwestern United States: a Level I pediatric trauma center, a Level I adult trauma center, and a Level III adult trauma center. Data were collected between December 2009 and March 2010. Data analysis was guided by the principles of grounded theory. Line-by-line coding and constant comparative analysis techniques were used to identify recurring constructs., Results: A total of 48 emergency nurses participated. Recurring constructs emerged in the data analysis and coding, revealing four major themes: care of the trauma patient, professional practice, personal life, and support., Conclusions: Nurse job engagement, burnout, and professional and personal relationships are influenced by trauma patient care. The study's resulting themes of care of the trauma patient, professional practice, personal life, and support resulted in the development of the "trauma nursing is a continual experience theory" that can be used as a framework to address these effects. Objective: The objective of the review was to map the similarities and differences in the wound care practices of nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, and advanced practice registered nurses, globally., Introduction: Advanced practice nurses have graduate education and advanced scope of practice. Adding advanced wound care training to their skill set provides an opportunity for advanced practice nurses to provide wound care., Inclusion Criteria: This review considered for inclusion studies of advanced practice nurses globally who are registered nurses with graduate-level education and advanced training (certification/education) in wound care in any setting., Methods: The review was conducted using JBI methodology for scoping reviews. The databases searched included MEDLINE, CINAHL, ProQuest Nursing and Allied Health, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Scopus, and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses. To reflect changes in the advanced practice nursing scope of practice, searches were limited to articles published from 2011 onward. Articles in languages other than English were translated. Two reviewers independently reviewed titles and abstracts; relevant sources were retrieved in full and screened for eligibility against the inclusion criteria. An additional independent reviewer resolved any disagreements. Data were extracted using a data extraction tool. Extracted data included similarities and differences in wound care practice (type of wound, practice setting, treatments)., Results: There were 2504 abstracts screened, and 158 articles were screened at full text. Seven articles were included in this review: 3 sources from the United States, 2 from Australia, and 1 each from Canada and The Netherlands. All 7 sources focused on nurse practitioners. Wound care education varied from certification in wound ostomy to a master's education in wounds. The practice setting varied; there were 2 primary care clinics, 2 community clinics, a wound care center; a suburban hospital, and a study that included tertiary, community, and residential care. Treatments varied, but the sources specific to pressure injuries discussed assessments, cleansing, dressings, topical products, and offloading surfaces/equipment. One source examined the impact of hiring nurse practitioners as wound care consultants. Sources that discussed treatments for various wounds described comprehensive assessments, diagnostic investigations, referrals, wound management, and medications prescribed., Conclusions: This review outlined the characteristics of advanced practice nurses providing wound care and their practice settings, types of wounds, and treatments provided. Many articles on advanced practice nurses with advanced wound care expertise lack a description of the graduate-level education and/or the specifics regarding wound care certification. Background: Traumatic experiences can adversely affect a child's health. These effects often continue into adulthood, especially when trauma is not addressed. Although the evidence shows benefits with addressing trauma earlier in life, trauma-informed care of children is underused in primary care. Health care providers (nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians) report gaps in knowledge of trauma-informed care and in their comfort level addressing trauma in primary care., Method: This project investigated the use of continuing education sessions to increase health care providers' knowledge and readiness to implement trauma-informed care into their practice., Results: The education sessions improved health care providers' knowledge and comfort with trauma-informed care., Conclusion: This intervention improved providers' readiness to implement trauma-informed care into their primary care practice. Background and Purpose: Vulnerable populations are social groups at increased risk for poor health outcomes. According to the vulnerable populations conceptual model (VPCM) nursing theory, vulnerable groups such as survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) are at risk for disease, morbidity, and mortality due to limited resources. The purpose of this article is to propose the VPCM as an organizing theoretical framework in the acute care setting of trauma patients suffering from IPV by outlining the factors affecting the care of this vulnerable population. Results: This synthesis of the literature outlines the decreased resource availability and increased relative risk encountered by IPV survivors, which results in poor health, which supports the application of the VPCM as a guiding theory. The VPCM provides a structure for understanding IPV patients and equips nursing with a framework for taking action through engagement, assessment, intervention, and evaluation of practice when caring for this vulnerable trauma population in the acute care setting. Implications for Practice: Using a theory-based model provides a framework for clinical practice interventions. Aim: To explore the Chinese nurses' current practices and challenges to trauma-informed care (TIC) for accidentally injured patients, which can provide the way forward of improvement in the future., Design: A qualitative study., Methods: Sixteen Chinese nurses who had experience working with accidentally injured patients were invited into the semi-structured interviews. Following each interview, the dialogue was transcribed verbatim. Subsequently, we analysed the data in accordance with the principles of thematic analysis., Results: Four common themes emerged from the analysis: (a) Awareness of patients' psychological trauma; (b) Recognition of psychological trauma; (c) Response to psychological trauma; (d) Perceived barriers to implementing TIC. This research indicated an urgent need for interventions in the future, such as TIC education and training, time constraints, heavy workload, emotional exhaustion and mood self-regulation, giving policy incentives, strengthening leadership support and internal cooperation. Trauma remains a leading cause of death among adults. Care of the trauma patient requires highly skilled trauma teams. Trauma care begins in the field, then presents to the emergency room, proceeds to intensive care in many cases, and finally reaches recovery and rehabilitation. For patients, it can be a long road. To be effective, multidisciplinary trauma teams must expertly drill and practice skills, communicate among team members in closed loops, make split decisions affecting patient outcomes, and see the care through to the end. Many disruptions during the course of providing trauma care can alter safe outcomes for patients. The American Association of Critical Care Nurses Six Essentials of the Healthy Work Environment are presented as a framework to provide excellence in trauma care, both for the patient and team members. Wound bed preparation is the management of a wound in order to optimise healing and/or facilitate other therapeutic measures. It is the most pivotal step in healing wounds. Early referral to a specialist wound clinic can markedly improve the wound healing process. This overview will discuss the techniques involved in the preparation of the wound bed that will effectively accelerate the healing process. The process begins with a correct diagnosis of the wound and optimising the patient's medical condition. The TIMERS framework is discussed. Wound dressings, including the use of negative-pressure wound therapy, are discussed, along with debridement techniques and agents. The timing of wound intervention and evaluating progress will also be discussed, and wound bed preparation strategies will be included. There has been an added challenge of wound care in the community as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The present article provides an overview of how to prepare a wound bed in the community.

This is a tissue viability nurse's perspective on how we have run our service during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although there have been challenges, this article focuses on how the pandemic has created opportunities for the team to evolve. It has allowed us to be innovative and push forward with a new way of working that has been imagined for a long time. This transformation of the service aims to improve its efficiency and value, so that patient outcomes and wound care practice within the community are enhanced.

In the ever-changing world of wound care and nursing, it remains apparent that chronic wounds are a growing challenge. Evidence shows that age increases the likelihood of developing a chronic wound, which supports the notion that the burden of these wounds on the NHS is likely to further intensify with the ageing population. There are many reasons why a wound may fail to progress, including wound aetiology, comorbidities and environmental and socio-economic factors. One of the most significant reasons why wounds may fail to progress and become chronic is untreated wound infection. In order for clinicians to be able to treat and manage wound infections, it is vital that they understand how infection develops, the many ways in which infections may present themselves and how and when to initiate appropriate topical and systemic therapies to treat wound bed infections. The present article provides an overview of wound bed infections and their management.

Objective: Establishing a smart platform for wound nursing management is imperative to accelerating the development of this specialty. A mobile application (app) was created based on the clinical needs of wound care to improve working efficiency and wound management, as well as enable information sharing and categorical retrieval of patient records., Methods: Supported by the National Mobile Laboratory of China, the authors' wound care center collaborated with information technology engineers and user interface designers to establish a multidisciplinary team of experts in wound nursing information management and develop a digital app. Electronic tablets were chosen as a convenient clinical method to collect complete information in a standardized format. In the app, case records are synchronously cataloged for rapid retrieval. The app was designed such that practicing nurses could quickly learn how to use the various functions of the app. Through constant iterative optimization, the relevant functional modules have been further improved., Results and Conclusions: After a 1-year clinical trial, app functions have stabilized, fulfilling the expectations of technicians and boosting the operating efficiency of clinical practices. In comparison with traditional methods, the app allows for easy access to patient information; rapidly reviewed, synchronous cataloguing; and convenient retrieval.
