The popularity of online shopping in China has increased significantly, creating new development opportunities for the express delivery industry. However, the rapid expansion of the express industry has also created challenges in the parcel sorting process. The demanding nature of parcel sorting work, which is characterized by intense and prolonged repetitive tasks, makes individuals particularly vulnerable to the effects of fatigue. Fatigue is a complex condition that encompasses both physiological and psychological exhaustion. It often results in reduced energy levels and diminished functionality, significantly impacting an individual's performance at work and their overall well-being. This study aimed to investigate how physiological and psychological fatigue affects sorting efficiency and to identify appropriate rest periods that will allow employees to maintain their performance levels. The research involved fifteen participants who took part in a 60 min continuous sorting experiment and a similar experiment with scheduled breaks. During both trials, we collected data on participants' electromyography (EMG) and electrodermal activity (EDA), as well as subjective fatigue ratings (RPE). Signal features such as the median frequency (MF) of EMG and the skin conductance level (SCL) were analyzed to assess physiological and psychological fatigue, respectively. The results show that physiological fatigue mainly affects sorting efficiency in the first 30 min, while psychological fatigue becomes more influential in the following half-hour period. In addition, subjective fatigue levels during the first 30 min are primarily determined by psychological factors, while beyond that point, both physiological and psychological fatigue contribute to subjective fatigue. Rest periods of 415–460 s, based on EDA recovery times, effectively support sorting efficiency and participants' recovery. This study highlights the complex ways in which fatigue affects parcel sorting performance and provides valuable theoretical and practical insights for establishing labor quotas and optimizing work schedules in the parcel sorting industry. Morita therapy is known as a psychotherapy grounded in the culture of Japan, particularly its Buddhist culture. Its popularity in Japan and other East Asian countries is cited as an example of the relevance and importance of culture and religion in psychotherapy. To complement such interpretations, this study adopts a socio-historical approach to examine the role and significance of work in Morita's theory and practice within the broader work environment and culture of the 1920s and 1930s in Japan. Morita conceptualized shinkeishitsu as a personality disease and a social illness caused by an alienating work environment. He proposed a remedy that emphasized the subjective emotional experience of work. To his primarily middle-class clients and readers, Morita's reconciliation between the self and society and that between autonomy and compliance was persuasive and useful, providing a philosophy whereby they could integrate into the work environment without loss of self-worth. The socio-historical character of Morita therapy is vital to understanding its power and appeal during Morita's time. Purpose – This study aims to explore whether the working parents' perception about the necessity of childcare centres for their work efficiency is associated with their anxieties and concerns related to their dual responsibilities, i.e. providing proper parental childcare and maintaining work efficiency. Design/methodology/approach – A sample of 100 employed parents, from the Jashore region of Bangladesh, was surveyed, and descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Findings – It was revealed that there is a strong association between the perceived negative impact on job performance, childcare, child development, work efficiency and perceived need for a childcare centre. Research limitations/implications – The limitation of this study is that it was confined to Jashore University of Science and Technology. The results may differ from those of the study conducted outside this study area and the methodology used here. Practical implications – This study has significant practical implications for employers, childcare service providers and policy makers, especially in Bangladesh. The employers will be able to understand the demand for childcare services centres among the employed parents in respective organizations. It will draw attention of employers of knowledge intensive industries and grants commission to the issue of conflict of work and childcare-related responsibilities of employed parents. This will also make employers conscious about the dilemma that is undergone by employed parents motivating them to take actions for minimizing such conflicts to ensure better job performance of working parents. Social implications – Based on this study, childcare providers and other policy makers will be able to ascertain the potential size of the childcare market and determine the requirement for investment in childcare-related human resources development. As the work and childcare responsibilities compete for limited time of working parents, either childcare or job performance suffers. This causes concerns, anxieties or remorse, which again hampers the job performance further. Therefore, this study may motivate the university authority around the world, specifically those in Bangladesh, to provide childcare facilities for its faculties, students and other employees. Originality/value – This study contributes to the literature on growing demand for centre-based childcare services in an emerging economy context. It provides evidence of high demand for on- and off-site childcare centres to enhance work efficiency of working parents.

Monitoring of operating parameters of machines and devices is recently used more often in hard coal mining. This solution is one of the elements of the intelligent mine concept. This concept means that the enterprise uses innovative technologies while considering economic and social factors. The aim of applying practical solutions under the guiding idea is to increase the efficiency of the production line and the safety of the crew's work. The authors propose introducing a system monitoring the geometrical parameters of the powered roof support. The proposed system fits the requirements of creating an intelligent mine, a plant that meets the global safety and efficiency requirements. The article depicts studies of the underground working conditions of the section geometry monitoring system. The tests contributed to determining sensor installation locations and clarifying the geometric parameters of the measurement and recording system. The system is a solution so far not used in Polish hard coal mining at such a highly advanced level. Based on the measurements, the tested system determined the transverse and longitudinal inclinations of the essential elements of the section. By employing comparative analysis, the research seeks to shed light on how varying organizational structures and work environments influence the relationship between job-related stress and employee performance. Understanding these dynamics can offer valuable insights for policymakers and organizational leaders to develop effective strategies for enhancing employee well-being and productivity in the banking industry. The research included a total 60 participants from both public and private banks located in Thrissur, Kerala. Data collection involved using the Census method to gather responses from individual employees, and statistical analyses such as correlation, and independent t-sample tests were conducted using SPSS version 26.0 to examine the data. The high levels of musculoskeletal pain, in conjunction with the low levels of functional capacity, may negatively affect workers' health, efficiency, and productivity. This randomized controlled study investigated the efficacy of a 6-month comprehensive workplace exercise program on musculoskeletal pain and functional capacity in office workers. Seventy male and female office workers with musculoskeletal pain in any body area were randomly assigned to either an intervention (IG; n = 35) or a control group (CG; n = 35). The IG participated every working day (during working hours) in a 6-month supervised combined (flexibility, strength, and balance) exercise program (120 training sessions; five times/week) for the total body. The CG did not participate in any intervention. Musculoskeletal pains in nine body areas and functional capacity (flexibility, balance, and strength) of the lower and upper body were measured before and following the intervention. The IG significantly reduced duration and intensity of pain (43.1–70%; p = 0.000) as well as days of work absenteeism (84.6%; p = 0.000), while improving work capacity (87.1%; p = 0.000). Furthermore, the IG significantly increased cervical, handgrip, back, and leg maximal strength (10.3–27.1%; p = 0.000) and flexibility and balance (12.3–73.7%; p = 0.000). In CG, all musculoskeletal pain and functional capacity indices remained unchanged. In conclusion, this program may be effectively used to reduce musculoskeletal pain and improve functional capacity. High summer temperatures in special vehicle cabins affect drivers and occupants, reducing efficiency and combat potential. Improving occupant work efficiency is key to enhancing overall combat effectiveness. There's a lack of research on the work efficiency of special vehicle occupants engaged in complex, specialized tasks within cabin thermal environments. This study focused on a special vehicle, discussing the effects of the summer thermal environment in the cabin on personnel efficiency. It linked subjective thermal sensations to work efficiency through questionnaires and task performance evaluations. The best work efficiency environment may not be the environment with the highest thermal comfort. This paper presented a subjective thermal sensation range criterion for maintaining the work efficiency of the occupants in the cabin during the summer. This serves as a basis for optimizing the summer thermal environment and improving the reliability of human-vehicle systems in special vehicle cabins.

The research focusses on understanding the controls and predicting singers' work efficiency, which is measured by rework times (RwT) in the recording studios. We conducted a comprehensive literature synthesis to identify a set of nine critical factors combining advancements in both acoustic field and recording practice. We measured each of these potential variables while 10 individual singers performed the same original song independently. The pieces of music sentences (n = 380) were analyzed by the multiple linear regression method. We found that: In the recording process, the RwT of a singer are predicted mainly by intensity, singing duration (SinD) and rhythm consistency. SinD mediates the connection between intensity and RwT. This study aimed at examining labour demand in Swedish suckler cow operations grazing biodiverse semi-natural grasslands. Labour time was successfully recorded by 49 randomly selected farmers and their employees using an application in their mobile phone to register time for different labour tasks every 8th day for one year, crop production excluded. Median labour time for all herds was 17 hours/cow/year with a general lower workload per cow for large herds compared to small herds. Labour demand during the grazing period was however more dependent on the structure of pastures than herd size. The calving period was the most labour-intensive period, whereas supervision on pasture was the most time-consuming task both during the grazing period and the entire year. Large variations among herds indicates that there are often great opportunities for achieving a decreased labour time, not the least in small herds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The major challenge of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality Council has been poor service delivery attributable to the poor performance management systems. Aim: This study aims to determine how feedback and rewards affect the work performance of the employees in terms of work quality, quantity, and efficiency. Setting: This article was guided by the responses from employees of the municipality to assert how feedback and rewards have helped to improve their work performance. Methods: The stratified sampling method was adopted in the study. The sample of 371 employees was allocated to the different strata of the population using allocation proportional to size, while participants from each stratum were identified using the simple random sampling method and interviewed using structured questionnaire. Results: The study showed that paid leave was the only type of reward the employees received. The respondents disagreed that employees were fairly rewarded for their performance; that the reward system facilitated attracting and retaining the right kind of people, and that the managers have regular meetings to discuss their performance progress. Feedback and rewards do not jointly significantly (p 0) predict work quality but are significant predictors of work quantity and work efficiency. Conclusion: The study concluded that managers should be trained to link praise, recognition, cash, and non-cash rewards to specific results and all levels of accomplishments should be rewarded while ensuring effective feedback delivery. Contribution: The study highlighted how managers’ effective and efficient feedback and reward appraisal and management can enhance the productivity of the organisation.

PurposeTo assess the impact of Lean primary care redesigns on the amount of time that physicians spent working each day.MethodsThis observational study was based on 92 million time-stamped Epic® EHR access logs captured among 317 primary care physicians in a large ambulatory care delivery system. Seventeen clinic facilities housing 46 primary care departments were included for study. We conducted interrupted time series analysis to monitor changes in physician work patterns over 6 years. Key measures included total daily work time; time spent on "desktop medicine" outside the exam room; time spent with patients during office visits; time still working after clinic, i.e., after seeing the last patient each day; and remote work time.ResultsThe amount of time that physicians spent on desktop EHR activities throughout the day, including after clinic hours, decreased by 10.9% (95% CI: -22.2, -2.03) and 8.3% (95% CI: -13.8, -2.12), respectively, during the first year of Lean implementation. Total daily work hours among physicians, which included both desktop activity and time in office visits, decreased by 20% (95% CI: -29.2, -9.60) by the third year of Lean implementation.ConclusionsThese findings suggest that Lean redesign may be associated with time savings for primary care physicians. However, since this was an observational analysis, further study is warranted (e.g., randomized trial) -to determine the impact of Lean interventions on physician work experiences.

Introduction: During the Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the world has experienced many changes, including increased computer and internet usage. Spending more time on computers can lead to the development of various postural problems, resulting in pain and inefficiency in the workplace. Aim: To assess the knowledge of computer ergonomics among third and final year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) students at VSPM’s dental college in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional, questionnairebased study was conducted on third and final year students between November 2020 and February 2021 in the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology at VSPMDCRC, Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. Ethical clearance was obtained from the Institutional Ethical Committee (IEC/VSPMDCRC/15/2020). A self-administered questionnaire, formulated and validated by independent subject experts, was used. A total of 216 students were included in the study over a two-month period. Informed consent was obtained from the students. The questionnaire consisted of 34 questions on computer usage and knowledge of ergonomics, and the responses were recorded. Descriptive statistics were performed using Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0 for Windows. Quantitative data were expressed as mean and standard deviation. The association between categorical variables was checked using the Chi-square test, with a significance level set at 5%. Results: The mean age of the students was 22.20 years total of 216 students, including 158 females and 58 males, were included in the study. The results showed that 20.37% of third year students (44/96) and 31.48% of final year students (68/96) were aware of the term "ergonomics". The majority of students were unaware of the principles of ergonomics. However, 169 (78.2%) students knew the correct position of the head and neck while using a computer. Additionally, 164 (75%) students were aware of the need for lower back support, 167 (77.3%) were aware of the placement of input devices, and 174 (80.6%) were aware of the alignment of devices. Moreover, 168 (77.8%) subject knew that the monitor and working surface should be glare-free, and 120 (55.6%) were aware that a sloped desk surface is required for reading or writing. Furthermore, 157 (72.7%) subjects used a headset or speakerphone while writing, typing, or talking on the phone, and 164 (75.9%) subjects took regular eye breaks. Conclusion: The present study highlights a lack of practical knowledge and application of ergonomics among the participants. There is a need to prioritise creating awareness and developing healthy ergonomics practices among dental students through Continuing Dental Education programs (CDE). The authors also recommend that the curriculum for healthcare courses should incorporate healthy ergonomics practices as a part of the curriculum.

This article describes the process of creating scripts that optimize work with a PC using the AutoHotkey program. The created scripts simplify the user’s interaction with the PC. Purpose – develop scripts for users, when interacting with which they will be able to significantly increase the efficiency of working with a PC. The method or methodology of the work: this article discusses a method in which using scripts simplifies working with a PC and increases its efficiency. Result: easy-to-use scripts have been developed that increase the practicality of interaction with a PC, which has a positive effect on work efficiency. Scope of the results: the developed scripts can be applied in various areas where automation of repetitive actions on a PC is necessary.

Sixty patients who underwent unilateral total knee arthroplasty and 60 patients who underwent posterior lumbar interbody fusion between March and May 2022 were recruited as the control stage. Additionally, a total of 120 patients, 60 of each, who underwent the two procedures between September and November 2022, were recruited as the experimental stage. For the control stage, conventional external equipment management was used, and for the experimental stage, an external device management programme was implemented based on multidisciplinary collaboration with the control stage. Based on the PDSA cycle, the configuration management of orthopaedic external device sets was optimised, and the differences in collating and counting external devices, nurses’ overtime in the external device stage and orthopaedic surgeon satisfaction were compared between the two stages.Results: Compared with the control stage, the collation count took less time (8.65 ± 0.25 min vs 5.37 ± 0.13 min; 13.55 ± 1.10 min vs 7.85 ± 0.82 min), the number of overtime hours was shorter (175.80 ± 12.19 min vs 96.68 ± 13.66 min) and orthopaedic surgeon satisfaction was improved (4.58 ± 0.62 vs 4.10 ± 0.68; 4.33 ± 0.73 vs 3.87 ± 0.77; 4.20 ± 0.71 vs 3.82 ± 0.71; 4.12 ± 0.69 vs 3.87 ± 0.72; 4.05 ± 0.68 vs 3.79 ± 0.68) in the experimental stage (all P < 0.05).Conclusion: Multidisciplinary collaboration offers various benefits for optimising the configuration of external device sets, such as reducing the time taken for the preoperative sorting and counting of external devices, enhancing nurses’ work efficiency and improving surgeons’ job satisfaction; therefore, it is worthy of reference in clinical practice.Keywords: operating theatre, optimisation configuration, external instruments, item counting, scientific management, work efficiency

This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of use by radiographers and image quality in the use of dental holders that have been modified with silicone rubber in dental radiography procedures. Motivated by the problem in the use of conventional dental holders that often cause discomfort for patients and the potential for motion artifacts, a modification with silicone rubber was proposed. The study sample involved 16 repetitions on each head cadaver using both the innovative and control dental holders. The results of the paired t-test showed a significant difference in efficiency of use by radiographers and image quality between the two groups. The efficiency of use by radiographers increased, supported by a Cohen's d value of 9.632. The modification with silicone rubber showed better images, with a Cohen's d value of 0.325, attributed to the adjustable conus guide capability according to the size of the patient's mouth and jaw as well as the increased comfort with the silicone rubber material. This study recommends the adoption of the modified dental holder to improve procedure efficiency and quality of dental radiography results.

Introduction: in the second half of the 20th century, there was increased interest in occupational medicine regarding the psychological aspects of work, aiming to assess opportunities for enhancing work efficiency. It was already recognized then that prolonged exposure to stress can undermine health and influence each individual's behavior, quality of life, and work. However, particular attention is given to the healthcare profession, where high stress and its consequences are experienced by doctors and nurses (health professionals) upon whom the health and lives of others depend. Aim: to identify the presence of stress and its impact on the work efficiency of healthcare professionals at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of healthcare. Materials and methods: the participants in the study were employed in healthcare institutions: Primary level - Sarajevo Health Centers; 50 doctors, 100 nurses, Secondary level - General Hospital "Prim. Dr. Abdulah Nakaš"; 50 doctors, 100 nurses, Tertiary level - Clinical Center Sarajevo; 50 doctors, 100 nurses (BSc/MSc and BSc). The total number of participants from the mentioned healthcare institutions was 450. The research was conducted in 2017 and 2018 in the mentioned institutions, with the approval of the healthcare institutions. The research method was a cross-sectional, comparative, descriptive-analytical study. A modified combined closed-open type questionnaire was used for the intended research according to the Likert model with a scale from 1-5, where 1-strong disagreement and 5- complete agreement with the statement. Results: the results show a positive correlation between different examined groups and great simi larity in attitudes between various levels of healthcare institutions. According to the participants, there is a high level of stress in the workplace. A difference in the presence and negative impact of stress is identified at different levels of healthca re. The highest stress level is present at the tertiary level, followed by the secondary level, to a lesser extent at the primary level. Conclusion: a large amount of stress hurts the work efficiency of healthcare professionals. The healthcare profession is highly stressful, undermining employees' mental and physical health at all levels of healthcare institutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The role of Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) the key worker is primely surrounded to be mainly a link-worker or facilitator, a community health worker, and a social activist under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). This study was conducted to study the workload and work pattern of ASHAs and identify the causes for improving work. This was an observational cross-sectional study conducted using a time-motion study as the tool among seventeen ASHAs from two primary health centers (PHC) in central India for four months. An ASHA's work pattern and workload were studied by constructing a 24-h recall. An focus group discussion (FGD) was conducted with the ASHAs to identify the factors affecting their effective functioning, after which content analysis was done. It was observed that activities under National programs consumed most of the time of ASHAs, followed by Maternal-Child Health (MCH) activities and Register maintenance. There was no homogenous work distribution among ASHAs. In content analysis, 30 concepts were categorized into four themes (responses from villages- an important drive, work pressure, survey a double-edged sword, demands of ASHAs). We conclude that the ASHAs are overburdened, and hence, not effectively utilizing their role as social activists. At present, automated material processing systems have been adopted by numerous high-tech enterprises, which mainly include Rail Guided Vehicles (RGVs) and CNC Machines. However, in the actual operation process, RGVs are generally scheduled according to the preset procedures of the system, and the lack of intelligent models considering the advanced movement does not elevate the operation efficiency of the system. In this paper, we propose an intelligent scheduling model for RGVs with advanced movement, considering all the work of the RGVs and its matching CNCs in the system within the cycle time, and verify the accuracy and superiority of the model by taking an automated material processing system of a factory as an example. Abstract Background Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) has emerged as a promising technique, but the planning process can be time-consuming and dependent on planner expertise. We aimed to develop a fully automated VMAT planning program for LARC and evaluate its feasibility and efficiency. Methods A total of 26 LARC patients who received VMAT treatment and the computed tomography (CT) scans were included in this study. Clinical target volumes and organs at risk were contoured by radiation oncologists. The automatic planning program, developed within the Raystation treatment planning system, used scripting capabilities and a Python environment to automate the entire planning process. The automated VMAT plan (auto-VMAT) was created by our automated planning program with the 26 CT scans used in the manual VMAT plan (manual-VMAT) and their regions of interests. Dosimetric parameters and time efficiency were compared between the auto-VMAT and the manual-VMAT created by experienced planners. All results were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank sum test. Labor cost reduction and resourceful space utilization are essential for efficient warehouse operation. In these challenges, mobile rack technology can increase storage space by 75% or more. The mobile racking system is a system where racks are constructed on a mobile base and steered by rails on the floor. Driven by an electrical motor, the mobile base moves along the rails to open one or more access aisles. Moving rack technology eliminates aisle space between racks and increases storage space by synchronizing wheels or rails. Hence, companies can stock and access a high volume of products while enduring space-efficient. Minimizing the cost per pallet is especially critical for cooler and freezer facilities. However, there is no straightforward solution to determining the optimal layout of a mobile rack warehouse. When designing a mobile rack warehouse, you can increase storage space by a minimum of aisles, but it can reduce work efficiency at the same time. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the appropriate layout of mobile racks considering both work efficiency and space efficiency. This study proposes a practical layout of a mobile rack warehouse to harmonize work and space efficiency. To validate the model, we examine several numerical examples and analyze the warehouse area, the total amount of rack movement, and working hours. Depending on the operating cost, a different layout is suggested.

Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic's impact on economies worldwide has caused changes in work patterns, reduced productivity, and job losses, particularly affecting factory workers. Lockdown measures have also led to reduced physical activity levels, which is a significant risk factor for chronic diseases. This study aims to investigate efficiency of factory workers pre and post lockdown periods. The findings will contribute to identifying evidence-based strategies to minimize the negative impact of lockdown measures on factory workers' productivity and health. Materials and methods A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the work performance of employees in a medicine manufacturing unit. Data was collected from factory workers online and study period was January 2021 to April 2022. Survey includes close ended questions regarding work performance of employees before lockdown period (Before 20/03/2020) and performance after lockdown period (After August 2020). The sample size of 196 employees selected through simple random sampling. A questionnaire consisting of demographic factors, work details, and work performance was prepared using pretested standard tools, including the Individual Work Performance Questionnaire (IWPQ), the World Health Organization Health and Work Performance Questionnaire (HPQ), and the Stanford Presenteeism Scale (SPS-6). The collected data was analysed using descriptive statistics and a paired t-test. Results The study found that prior to lockdown, 99% of employees consistently had higher performance, with 71.4% ranking in the top 10. However, after lockdown, the percentage of employees with high performance decreased to 91.8%, with only 63.3% ranking in the top 10. These differences were statistically significant, indicating a decrease in work efficiency of 8.1%. Before lockdown, employees worked longer hours, including on off days, while after lockdown, a small proportion missed work due to various reasons, resulting in better quality work. Conclusion In conclusion, the study highlights the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the work efficiency of factory workers. The findings indicate a decrease in work efficiency after the lockdown, coupled with an increase in employee stress. This suggests that the pandemic has brought about unique challenges for factory workers that need to be addressed to maintain their well-being and productivity. This study emphasizes the importance of creating a supportive work environment that prioritizes the mental and physical health of employees, especially during times of crisis.

An excavator is a representative construction machine used to perform earthwork. The work efficiency of an excavator significantly influences the overall work productivity of the earthwork. However, the work efficiencies of the excavators reduce with the increasing shortage of skilled excavator drivers. This study aims to develop a vision-based machine guidance system for excavators that can be used in earthwork sites to improve the work safety and efficiency of the operation. The prototype of the vision-based machine guidance system developed in this study had an around-view monitoring (AVM) image radius of 7 m. The information is updated every 50 ms, and the AVM images are refreshed at an average rate of 28.2 fps, thereby improving the efficiency of the actual excavation. The performance and stability of the developed prototype were verified through 80 h of continuous field operation. In this study, field testing was conducted on one excavator driver. Hence, further work is necessary to quantitatively verify the system using many excavator drivers. The system can improve the work efficiency after its commercialization, in comparison to that of conventional earthwork using excavators. It allows the drivers to perform earthwork with improved safety and a full view around the excavator.

This study investigates the construct of sisu, a Finnish attribute representing mental resilience and fortitude when confronted with difficult situations. By leveraging advanced analytical methods and explainable Artificial Intelligence, we gain insights into how sisu factors influence well-being, work efficiency, and overall health. We investigate how the beneficial aspects of sisu contribute significantly to mental and physical health, satisfaction, and professional accomplishments. Conversely, we analyze the harmful sisu and its adverse impacts on the same domains. Our findings, including intriguing trends related to age, educational level, emotional states, and gender, pave the way for developing tailored solutions and initiatives to nurture the beneficial aspects of sisu and curtail the damaging consequences of sisu within professional settings and personal welfare.

This article explores whether pay decisions based on pre-contract efficiency are necessarily correct. Overcoming methodology problems of previous studies, we use each player's contract of National Basketball Association (NBA) as an observation. The empirical results show that managers indeed pay their employees according to an evaluation of their pre-contract efficiency. However, the pay decisions are not correct. Relative to the final year of the last contract, employees' efficiency in the first year of the current contract decreases with increased salary. The reason is that managers put more weight on players' efficiency in the final year of the last contract than on the average efficiency. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a recurrent, chronic disease of the central nervous system (CNS) characterized by various symptoms such as vision problems, balance, gait, and cognitive impairments. In MS, the decline in cognitive function can be a difficult symptom to detect, which may lead to negative consequences in work and social situations. Consequently, this decline could impact individuals' work productivity in multiple ways, including job termination, reduced working hours, and experiencing work-related adverse events. This study aims to examine the relationship between cognitive status and work productivity and activities in individuals with MS. Sociodemographic and occupational characteristics of the patients are also considered. The Brief International Cognitive Assessment for Multiple Sclerosis (BICAMS) is used to evaluate participants' cognitive status. The Work Productivity and Activity Impairment Questionnaire (WPAI:MS) is utilized to assess work productivity and activities in MS patients. Pearson correlation and regression analysis were performed to analyze the relationship between continuous variables in the study. A total of 144 patients participated in the study. Of these patients, 81.2% have relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS). Working patients make up 42.4% of these individuals. In this study, it was observed that BICAMS subtest scores for working patients were higher than those of the non-working patient group. When analyzing the causal relationship between working patients' cognitive status scores and work productivity and activities, no statistically significant result was obtained. The main structural parameters of the IR100-80-100A type chemical centrifugal pump have been optimized by means of an orthogonal test approach. The centrifugal pump has been modeled using the CFturbo software, and 16 sets of orthogonal-test schemes have been defined on the basis of 4 parameters, namely, the blade number, blade outlet angle, impeller outlet diameter, and impeller outlet width. Such analysis has been used to determine the influence of each index parameter on the pump working efficiency and identify a set of optimal combinations of such parameters. The internal flow field in the centrifugal pump has been simulated by using the PumLinx software. These numerical results have shown that, compared with the prototype pump, the outlet pressure and shaft power of the optimized pump can be significantly reduced, and the pump working efficiency can be improved by 5.59%. In the present study, some arguments are also provided to demonstrate that, with respect to other optimization methods, the orthogonal test approach is more convenient, and requires less test times. PURPOSE This study aims to develop a coach presenteeism scale with scientifically proven reliability and validity. METHODS In order to achieve the research purpose, preliminary questions were drafted using previous studies (Lee & Kim, 2022) and existing presentation questionnaires (SPS-34, SPS-6, SPS-13). The preliminary set of questions was composed of 23 questions, which were deliberated through a meeting with subject experts. After which, a survey involving 183 coaches was conducted. In this study, statistical verification procedures were conducted through construct validation, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, internal consistency analysis, convergent validation and discriminant validation. RESULTS Finally, a 2-factor (DRA 5 items, DTP 5 items), 10-item coach presenteeism scale was developed. CONCLUSIONS In this study, a scale with verified reliability and validity was developed to support and investigate the presenteeism phenomenon experienced by coaches. These may be used by coaches themselves to check their presenteeism status and may guide future research to effectively train athletes.

The legislation effectiveness on the organization of police officers’ physical and fire training in the Russian Federation is formulated in the work as a solution to the problem of optimizing the police officer training for the lawful and effective use of physical force, special means and firearms in situations of operational and service activity. Based on a practiceoriented approach to the formation of police competence in the field of the use of physical force and firearms, the experience available to the author (statistics, cases) in the field under study is investigated. As a result of the current legislation analysis, proposals to improve the regulatory framework for the use of physical force and firearms by police officers have been formulated. To ensure the adequacy of the reforms on the regulatory and legal provision of physical and fire training of police officers, it is proposed to organize an All-Russian study of the facts of physical force, special equipment and firearms use by police officers, with classification according to the directions of the physical force and firearms use set out in the Federal Law dated February 7, 2011 No. 3-FZ “On Police”. The proposed study should be of an interdepartmental nature, and a project approach should be used in its organization. Expected result: identification and classification of problems, difficulties in the process of using physical force and weapons by police officers, determination of the causes of such “shortcomings”, as well as identification of territorial features that affect the effectiveness of the use of physical force and firearms by police officers. The results of this study should become the basis for improving the current system of physical and fire training of police officers.

The high levels of musculoskeletal pain, in conjunction with the low levels of functional capacity, may negatively affect workers’ health, efficiency, and productivity. This randomized controlled study investigated the efficacy of a 6-month comprehensive workplace exercise program on musculoskeletal pain and functional capacity in office workers. Seventy male and female office workers with musculoskeletal pain in any body area were randomly assigned to either an intervention (IG; n = 35) or a control group (CG; n = 35). The IG participated every working day (during working hours) in a 6-month supervised combined (flexibility, strength, and balance) exercise program (120 training sessions; five times/week) for the total body. The CG did not participate in any intervention. Musculoskeletal pains in nine body areas and functional capacity (flexibility, balance, and strength) of the lower and upper body were measured before and following the intervention. The IG significantly reduced duration and intensity of pain (43.1–70%; p = 0.000) as well as days of work absenteeism (84.6%; p = 0.000), while improving work capacity (87.1%; p = 0.000). Furthermore, the IG significantly increased cervical, handgrip, back, and leg maximal strength (10.3–27.1%; p = 0.000) and flexibility and balance (12.3–73.7%; p = 0.000). In CG, all musculoskeletal pain and functional capacity indices remained unchanged. In conclusion, this program may be effectively used to reduce musculoskeletal pain and improve functional capacity.

This paper presents the measured effects of different resource qualities on construction performance. The paper describes a recommended method, proposed with the concept of prediction by understanding the causal effect of process resources on consequent work efficiencies. The project team measured and compared the different arrangements of resources and their effects on on-site work efficiencies. The paper includes a field study of 15 operations (40 piles) in Melbourne, on several worksites of prefabricated piles and installations. It aimed to determine the causality between the set of delivered prefabricated piles and relevant work efficiencies. This field includes its purpose of generating and providing scientific evidence in effectively implementing an offsite operation. One of the critical factors affecting the efficiency of the installation process was confirmed to be the location of the longest section in the sequence. It took 21.8 minutes longer with the middle part of the installation if the longest section was designed to be in the middle of the whole prefabricated steel pile. The findings confirmed the need for holistic communication along the supply chain. High-intensity resistance training (HIRT) is commonly performed by structural firefighters on duty to enhance occupational readiness. However, exercise-induced fatigue may negatively impact subsequent occupational performance. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the acute effect of HIRT on subsequent occupational physical ability in structural firefighters and to determine the time course of recovery. Seven resistance-trained male firefighters performed a timed maximal effort simulated fireground test (SFGT) in 3 randomized conditions: baseline (SFGTbaseline), 10 minutes post HIRT (SFGT10min), and 60 minutes post HIRT (SFGT60min). Work efficiency and air depletion were assessed during the SFGT. The timed HIRT session consisted of a standardized set of exercises using absolute training loads. Repeated measures analysis of variance and minimal difference (MD) analysis assessed group and individual effects between the conditions, respectively. The level of significance was set at p < 0.05. SFGT10min completion time was greater than SFGTbaseline (430 ± 137 vs. 297 ± 69 seconds, p < 0.01), with no difference between SFGTbaseline and SFGT60min (297 ± 69 vs. 326 ± 89 seconds, p = 0.08). The MD analysis indicated that all firefighters' SFGT10min times exceeded the MD (±26.4 seconds) compared with SFGTbaseline. However, 43% of firefighters still exceeded the MD at SFGT60min. Air depletion during SFGT10min was greater than that during SFGTbaseline (2,786 ± 488 vs. 2,186 ± 276 lb·in-2, p = 0.02), with no difference between SFGTbaseline and SFGT60min (p = 0.25). Work efficiency during SFGT10min was 40% lower than that during SFGTbaseline (p < 0.01), with no difference between SFGTbaseline and SFGT60min (p = 0.25). These findings indicate that an acute bout of HIRT decreases multiple descriptors of firefighters' occupational performance 10 minutes post exercise with varied responses at 60 minutes post exercise. Playful work design is a work design based on job enrichment approaches that focus on enjoying work. Employees can create a proactive, playful, and challenging work environment by designing playlike activities at work to perform for the fun and entertainment of the job. There are two important components, namely designing fun and designing competition, which are therefore important and indispensable to today's work because playful work design helps reduce boredom and burnout conditions, making work efficient as the organization sets goals. The author therefore compiles concepts and theories related to playful work design, starting work design and work efficiency concepts, understanding the meaning, related concepts, and elements of playful work design, and their application in work, in order to be a guideline for further research and development in industrial and organizational psychology, behavioral science, and other related fields. During the last decades, virtual reality (VR) has been devoted to supporting research in the architecture, engineering, and construction sectors because of its ability to provide multisensory three-dimensional (3D) environments. However, the use of immersive virtual environments (IVEs) in the design of the built environment is still in its infancy, and it is limited to visually designed spaces. In addition, a fundamental challenge lies in improving the sense of hearing. The effective simulation of the built environment with an overall realistic perception will support designers when identifying the influence of design decisions and building acoustics on individuals, therefore, properly designing acoustic strategies. In this study, five disrupting sound sources were selected to create a binaural soundtrack that was integrated within a virtual office environment to evaluate the effectiveness of the model (i.e., ecological validity) and the effects of acoustics on user comfort and cognitive performance (i.e., criterion validity). Independent measure design research was employed. In total, 104 participants performed working memory, inhibition, and task-switching tests under quiet (Q) or noise (N) conditions when the indoor air temperature remained constant. The results showed that the modeled virtual office created an excellent level of presence and immersivity with no significant cybersickness disorders (i.e., ecological validity). Ambient noise disrupted work efficiency with a relevant decrease in performance in each cognitive test (i.e., criterion validity). The sound environment was assessed as uncomfortable, chaotic, and boring. In addition, it negatively impacted the subjects' thermal comfort vote (TCV). These results suggested the adequacy of IVE when providing an accurate representation of the variables measured; therefore, it supported effective user-centered design analysis and strategies.
