This study aims to investigate the sensory preferences of children aged 8–12 regarding the material and characteristics of wooden toys. Taking wooden rocking horses as research samples, this study selected three types of wood, respectively Pinus taiwanensis, Fagus sylvatica, and Juglans nigra, which are significantly different in appearance from solid wood commonly used to make wooden toys. The experiment was conducted through on-site observation and questionnaire surveys to record children’s preferences for wood characteristics, such as the characteristic factors of wood texture, color and luster, touch, weight, smell, and overall preference. Descriptive statistics and analysis were performed using SPSS 25V, and the experimental results were analyzed and interpreted using fuzzy trigonometric functions. The findings reveal that Taiwan pine had the highest average worth score among the various evaluation characteristics in terms of wood surface performance preferences. Other types of wood also showed different favorability results in different characteristics. This study also analyzes the correlation and significant differences in favorability evaluation using fuzzy theory. This study provides insights that can be useful for toy designers and children’s teaching aid developers to purchase and match wooden toys effectively while promoting the efficient use of wood resources.

In this paper, we proposed value-added products by embedding mechatronic systems into the inside of traditional toys based on Hokkaido regional originalities. These toys were constructed of 'ezomatsu' (Picea jezoensis) wood, one of the most typical woods which has been approved as a 'Tree of Hokkaido' from 1966. We described two mechatronicsystem- embedded wooden toys applied the ‘ezomatsu’ materials for these appearances. The one was an interactive 'tsumiki' (building blocks) toy that appeals to players reacting with their block operations, and the other was a woodcraft based robot toy in the motif of a Blakiston's fish owl, called 'Kotan Kor Kamui', a household god of the Ainu. We then showed the development of effective prototypes of each toy, including mechatronic systems embedded in these toys.

Kukla yapımı, tiyatronun içinde farklı bir dramatik dil olarak varlığını teknolojinin hızına göre değiştiren, sinemaya paralel giderek gösteri sanatları içindeki yerini koruyan bir El sanatıdır. Kuklacılıkta diğer sahne sanatları gibi değişen ve gelişen teknolojiye karşı direnmeye devam etmektedir. Usta çırak ilişkisi içinde gelişen bu sanat günümüzde eğitim müfredatlarında seçmeli ders olarak yerini almaktadır. Kutsal hikâyelerin, masalların ve efsanelerin kuklacı yardımıyla kukla vasıtasıyla canlandırılması, elde edilen kaynaklara göre; günümüze kadar varlığını direnerek ve değişerek devam ettiği bilinmektedir. Geleneksel kültürümüzün bir parçası olan kuklacılık zaman içerisinde sosyo-ekonomik olumsuzlukların ortaya çıkardığı yetersizlikler kukla sanatının Türkiye'de istenen değeri görmemesi, kuklacılığın akademik anlamda da yeterli desteği görmemesine karşın, dünyada hem eğitim hem sahne sanatı olarak kalmaya direnmesi nedeniyle çalışma açısından araştırılmaya değer görülmüştür. Araştırma konusu olarak, Ankara ve Lecce şehirlerinde bulunan kukla atölyelerinin incelenmesi ele alınmıştır. Her iki şehirde bulunan kukla yapım atölyelerinde turistik hediyelik eşya olarak yapılan uygulamalar incelenmiştir. Puppet making is defined as a handicraft which may significanly change its existence depending on the pace of the developing technology, a handicraft which has a crucial role in theatre as well as a handicraft which has a parallelism with cinema holds its ground in stage and performing arts. The puppetry like the other stage and performing arts carries on standing its ground againts the developing technology. Nowadays, the puppetry developed within a mentor system tries to hold its ground as a selective course in syllabuses of some universities even İf just a bit. What is more, it is a very well-known fact that since the beginning of the humanity, the animation of the sacred stories, legends, and tales not only in the Far East counties, but also in transoceanic counties has been possible with the help of the puppet and it has held its ground by showing a great deal of resistance againts the Developing technology. Being one of the most appealing parts of our traditional culture, the puppetry has been considered to be rather significant in terms of both education and stage art to be studied due to the fact that it has been affected by the problems caused by socio-economical circumstances in Turkey and even though it has not been valued in the academic community, it still holds its ground not only in Turkey, but also globally. As for the main objective of the study as a research topic, the work Places of the puppet in Ankara, Turkey and in Lecce, a province of Apulia, Italy have been investigated throughout the study. 234

Bu tezde, insan hayatında birçok işlevle tezahür eden ahşabın çocuk oyuncakları kapsamında kullanımı araştırılmış ve ahşap oyuncaklar çocuk gelişimi ile ilişkilendirilmiştir. Özellikle okul öncesi dönemde çocukluğun en değerli öğeleri olarak oyun ve oyuncak kavramları ile çocuk gelişimi evrelerine dair kuram ve görüşlere göre çocuk gelişimi incelenmiştir. Küresel ölçekte sanayi ve teknoloji alanındaki gelişmeler neticesinde değişen yaşam şekli, ekolojik değişim ve ekolojik sorunlar ile gündeme gelen sağlık sorunları, yapay maddeler ve kimyasalların insan hayatına girişi ile bunların ortaya çıkardığı sorunlar, insanı yeniden doğal olanı arayışa sürüklediği için, doğal ve sağlığa uygun bir malzeme olarak ahşap konusuna değinilmiş, oyuncaklarla ilgili ülkemizde uygulamada olan oyuncak güvenliği standartları hakkında bilgiye yer verilmiş, oyuncak firmalarının internet siteleri üzerinden ahşap malzemenin oyuncaklarda kullanımı araştırılmış, oyuncakların çocuk gelişimindeki önemine ilişkin literatür bilgileri ışığında çocuk gelişimi ile ahşap oyuncaklar ilişkilendirilerek gelişim alanlarına göre ahşap oyuncakların çocuk gelişimindeki yerine ilişkin öngörülere yer verilmiştir. Çocuk gelişimini desteklemesi bakımından değeri, doğallığı, sağlığa uygun oluşu ve sürdürülebilir, çevre dostu olması ahşap oyuncak kullanımının benimsenerek yaygınlaştırılması düşüncesi ile ahşap oyuncak tasarımına bir alt yapı oluşturması amacıyla, tasarımda göz önüne alınması gereken esaslar ortaya konulmuştur. This thesis explores wood, which has functioned in many different ways throughout the history of humanity, in terms of its eligibility for children's toys, and findings are assessed with reference to wooden toys' value in child development. In this context, child development is examined according to the theories and opinions about child development stages and the concepts of play and toys, which are the most valuable elements of childhood in preschool period. Industrial and technological developments bring about changes in ecology and conditions of living, which increase human beings' contact with artificial substances and chemicals. Heightened susceptibility to health problems thus caused lead human beings to search for what exists in nature, naturally. The present study regards wood in this context and discusses its properties as a natural and healthy substance. Information about the current standards for the safety of toys and findings of online research on producing companies' websites regarding the use of wood in children's toys is given. In the light of the literature on the significance of toys in child development, insights concerning wooden toys' importance thereof are related, taking developmental areas into account. By treating wooden toys as a supporting factor for a healthy child development—as wooden toys are made of a natural, sustainable and eco-friendly substance—a guide to design wooden toys which aims to work as a basis for wooden toys produced with an agenda of adopting and popularizing the use of wood for children's toys is prepared. 118
