1. Effect of E-Evaluation on Work Motivation among Teachers during the Movement Control Order in COVID-19: The Mediating Role of Stress

Abstract

Purpose: This paper aims to examine the effect of e-evaluation on work motivation among teachers during the Movement Control Order (MCO) in COVID-19 and determining the mediating role of stress. Design/methodology/approach: The study is designed using a causal research design to examine the cause-effect relationship between the study variables. The study sample consists of 595 school teachers selected via convenient sampling. Quantitative data are collected from an online survey through the questionnaires with demographic, stress, e-evaluation and work motivation developed by the researchers were distributed during the MCO period. To test the model, structural equation modelling (SEM) was applied by using AMOS 21. Findings: The results indicated that the e-evaluation, stress and work motivation of teachers during the MCO were conducted at a moderate level. The stress relationship with work motivation of teachers was also weak and showed a negative relationship, while e-evaluation and work motivation showed a strong relationship. The results of the SEM analysis revealed that the model fit was achieved with RMSEA = 0.07, GFI = 0.96, CFI = 0.98, TLI = 0.97, ChiSq/df = 4.30 and p = 0.00. In addition, there was no role of stress as a mediator in the relationship between e-evaluation and work motivation and e-evaluation contributed 54% to work motivation. Research limitations/implications: This study underlines our contention that teachers' work motivation correlated positively with their e-evaluation. The findings suggest that teachers' stress cannot mediate the relationship between e-evaluation and work motivation. The limitations of the study include the convenience sampling, non-probability sampling technique, not chosen at random and undermines the generalizations from sample to the population. Practical implications: The results provide a useful framework to teachers for the successful implementation of e-evaluations in their instruction to enhance their work-motivation. Originality/value: There is a lack of e-evaluation studies in teacher education and teaching strategies, and the correlation between e-evaluation and work motivation during COVID-19 pandemic is often absent.

Abstract

The advent of the industrial revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) impacted the national industry and the need to provide a highly skilled and competitive workforce. However, the previous study on the implementation of IR4.0 in vocational colleges in Malaysia is still unsatisfactory. Previous studies have also focused on Technical Education and Vocational Training (TVET) at the higher education. Therefore, this study conducted to explore the challenges towards the implementation of the IR4.0 element in the Vocational College (VC) curriculum. VC offers education skills certificate and diploma level to secondary school students. VC needs to be prepared to face this phenomenon in providing national human resources. The study employs qualitative design using in depth semi structured interview method guided by the interview protocol. Seven participants who met the sampling criteria were involved in this study. The Interview recording systematically managed and translated verbatim as interview transcripts. Then a thematic analysis performed using ATLAS.ti software (version 8) to construct appropriate codes, categories and themes to answer the research questions. The results of the interviews found five main challenges identified on the implementation of the IR4.0 element in the VC curriculum; curriculum review, providing teaching workforce, providing infrastructure, industry relations and engaging in education. Overall findings indicate the need for a revisit of the VC curriculum to implement the IR4.0 element and has implications to implement in providing a national workforce that meets the needs of the industrial demand. Abstract

Metacognition in science teaching involves processes that include self-awareness and self-regulation. Metacognition enables the teachers to facilitate student learning and to reflect on their teaching in order to enable themselves to improve or to make any changes to their teaching. In particular, teaching activities, especially in the 21st century, do not merely involve the transfer of knowledge and then applying that knowledge into daily life, but teachers need to reflect, plan and evaluate learning outcomes to enhance further in teaching. This study attempts to gain the perspective and implementation of metacognition skills in teaching science in the primary school classroom. The data was collected through a qualitative research method based on interviews with six science teachers in primary school using semi-structured interview protocol. The interview data were analysed for emerging themes, guided by the research questions. Teachers have a similar perspective of the understanding of metacognition in science teaching. Further discussion focuses on the implementation of metacognition in science teaching. This discussion is divided into three aspects, which are constraints faced, overcoming the constraints, and efforts made to implement metacognition in science teaching. Hence, the understanding of science teachers in regards to metacognition in science teaching is important and gives a positive impact towards teaching and learning in primary science teaching.

Abstract

To become a professional player or other sports-related profession, the life span of the career is very shorts and competitive. Moreover, Malaysia student-athletes' endeavours are still uncertain toward career planning due to the lack of research in Malaysia on the role and benefits of career planning in helping and assisting student-athletes in managing academics and sports concurrently. Several psychometrics including Athletic Identity Measurement Scale (AIMS), Mental Health Continuum -- Short Form and a new instrument, Career and Tertiary Education Readiness Inventory (CaTERI) is developed through the adoption of a few well-established career counselling instrument, specifically to measure the career planning of student-athletes. The proposed methodology is to apply Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) to investigated the association between variables as well as the psychometric trait of each instrument. Career planning is of great significance to student-athletes, same go to psychometric tests, through psychometrics, early identification of the underlying issues may benefit these "special and talented minority" and enable them to make meaningful contributions to society and enable them to engage in careers related to their profession. Therefore, the purpose of this conceptual paper is to highlight the use of psychometric and the importance of investigating the relationship between student-athletes' athletic identity, mental health and career planning.
