The combination of technological unemployment and oversupply of graduates has increased competition in the labour markets. Postgraduates have been noted to hold more than one job and in some cases apply for jobs meant for undergraduates. Could this imply that post graduates have created more overall unemployment than undergraduates have, in the Ugandan labour market? This is the novel of this study. This was accomplished by a statistical model that comparatively analysed the bi-causal effect of postgraduates on unemployment; versus effect of undergraduates on unemployment. As such, the study utilised Uganda's secondary data from 1991 to 2017, and employed the Vector Error Correction (VECM) model. The results of the study showed the existence of a long run impact of both the postgraduates and undergraduates on overall unemployment, but an insignificant impact in the short run. The postgraduates had a greater impact on unemployment in the long run, than the undergraduates. The study therefore reveals an affirmative answer to the aforementioned question.

There have been several attempts in developing countries to reduce both graduate and overall unemployment; with the majority attempts centered on changes in the education sector. To better understand this avenue, this study intends to comparatively establish the impact of the two broad discipline categories of- Arts and science related disciplines- on the overall unemployment. The study employed the Vector autoregressive (VAR) model to analyse Uganda's data between 1991 and 2017. The findings of the study showed that the arts/humanities graduates have a slightly higher impact on unemployment than their counterparts from the science/technology disciplines in the short run in Uganda; with both groups of graduates having no significant effect on unemployment in the long run.

The experiences of employees from developed countries affirm that those from science/ technology-related disciplines benefit more through more technological inventions, than those from the Arts/ Humanities-related disciplines. The study utilizes statistical data of higher education graduates to determine a causal link between graduates from the two fore mentioned academic disciplines, and labour productivity in the developing country of Uganda. The data from 1985 to 2017 were analysed using the Vector Error Correction model, and revealed that arts graduates were as productive as the science graduates. The findings also show the existence of long-term relationship between academic discipline and labour productivity, as well as a bi-causality between the variables under study.

This study concerns the adoption of Information Communication Technology (ICT) services in libraries. The study collected 445 usable data from university library end-users using a cross-sectional survey instrument. It develops, applies and tests a research model of acceptance and use of such services based on an existing UTAUT model by Venkatesh, "et al." (2003). Results show that "relevance" and "social influence" have significant effects on intentions to use e-library services. Results further show that university communities in Uganda are inclined to use electronic library services due to social demands, relevancy of services, available facilitating conditions and benefits they expect from the services. Most importantly, the Service Oriented Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (SOUTAUT) model explains 57% of variance towards acceptance and use of e-library services.

The study explored the impact of the availability of school facilities on the access and learning achievements in primary education in Uganda. It employed a randomised phase-in design by randomly assigning surveyed schools into phase I (treatment) and phase II (control). Of the 301 schools, 160 were randomly selected to receive a facilities grant (SFG) in FY2016/17 and FY2017/18 (phase I) while the remaining 141 were to receive the grant after 2019 (phase II). The results revealed a statistically significant impact on access and attendance in the lower grades of primary education. Schools that received SFG support in FY2017/18 and FY2016/17 significantly increased enrolment by 23.61 and 23.33 pupils, respectively, relative to the control group. The impacts in FY2016/17 and FY2017/18 on school attendance were 16.2 per cent and 13.2 per cent, respectively. Further, schools that received the grant in FY2017/18 recorded a significant increase in numeracy and literacy test scores by 1.28 and 1.05 percentage points, respectively, more than the control group. The study demonstrates that adequate school infrastructure remains a key component of learning support as it promotes access to education as well as students' learning engagement. Further analysis is recommended to examine the appropriate and effective model of investment in school infrastructure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
