•96.2% of all Enterobacterales isolates were ceftazidime-avibactam-susceptible.•Most ceftazidime-avibactam-resistant Enterobacterales isolates carried MBL genes.•88.9% of all Pseudomonas aeruginosaisolates were ceftazidime-avibactam-susceptible.•43.1% of ceftazidime-avibactam-resistant P. aeruginosaisolates carried MBL genes.•4.4% of Enterobacterales and 8.9% of P. aeruginosaisolates had a DTR phenotype.

•CRPA in Taiwan increased from 12% in 2012–2015 to 19-23% in 2018–2021.•Only 2.1% of Taiwanese CRPA examined carried carbapenemase genes.•The most common carbapenemase among the CRPA was VIM (56%).•97.0% of all P. aeruginosaisolates tested from 2016 to 2021 were C/T susceptible.•91.3% of CRPA isolates tested from 2016 to 2021 were C/T susceptible.

Research is conducted on the isolation of a wide range of slow-growing methanotrophic bacteria from acidic landfill soil for the culturing studies. Two culture-independent 16S ribosomal DNA approaches and a traditional culture-based approach are discussed.

Abstract

PCR was employed to develop a library of 16S rRNA genes cloned from DNA extracted from the sediments of Rainbow Bay, situated on the Savannah Riber Site, near Aiken, SC. Of the 35 clones sequenced, 32 were related to five bacterial groups: 11 clustered with the Proteobacteria division, eight clustered with the Acidobacterium subdivision of the Fibrobacter division, seven clustered with the Verrucomicrobium subdivision of the Planctomyces division, three clustered with the gram-positive bacteria, and 3 clustered with the green nonsulfur bacteria.

Abstract

Multilocus enzyme electrophoresis is used to analyze the genetic structure and temporal patterns of genetic diversity in a population of Burholderia (Pseudomonas) cepacia. Allelic variation in seven structural gene loci is monitored at a single stream location for a maximum period of 32 days. Results show that these bacterial populations exhibit greater variability among sites than within a site over time.

Abstract

The allelic variation in a population of Burkholderia cepacia isolated from a blackwater creek was studied by using the multilocus enzyme electrophoresis technique. In Burkholderia both clonality and sexuality are seen. The mean genetic variation in the population studied, was found to be 0.574. The bacteria found in the soil at the same spot did not show much variation. Those found from different places differed genetically. This shows that the bacteria adapt themselves to changes in their micro environment.
