Hamstring injuries are common in cricket. Hamstring tendon injuries in cricket fast bowlers result in significant time loss and pose a challenging rehabilitation due to the physical demands of fast bowling. A well designed, interdisciplinary approach to rehabilitation is necessary to achieve optimal return to play outcomes. This article provides a framework for Sports Science and Sports Medicine (SSSM) practitioners to use throughout each phase of rehabilitation for a cricket fast bowler with a hamstring tendon injury. An accurate diagnosis using the British Athletics Muscle Injury Classification (BAMIC) is important and helps guide prognosis and rehabilitation planning. Targeted isometric hamstring exercises are favoured initially. Progression to high speed running and eccentric hamstring exercises are delayed to avoid elastic strain on healing tendon structures. At any given point during rehabilitation there is a lag between the intensity of skills sessions and the intensity of running sessions with the completion of running progressions expected before returning to maximum intensity bowling. Restoration of chronic bowling and running loads sufficient for the format of cricket the fast bowler is returning to play is essential. Beyond return to play, it is important strategies are implemented to optimise hamstring tendon health to promote performance and mitigate risk of recurrent or secondary musculoskeletal injuries. These strategies include management of high speed and very high speed running exposure, management of bowling loads, prescription of targeted hamstring exercises and optimising recovery, especially nutrition. While multi-factorial, the success of the rehabilitation of these athletes is influenced by the collaborative interaction of all SSSM practitioners involved in their management. There is no tool that is considered the 'gold' standard for identifying children with developmental coordination disorder (DCD) and various techniques have been reported in the research literature. The aim of this study was to examine the prevalence of DCD in a cohort of extremely low birth weight (ELBW; birth weight ≤ 1,000g) children at age 5 years using various methods including standardized motor assessment measures, an established clinic protocol, and a parent report. We also examined the association between selected neonatal risk factors and severity of the motor impairment. Four methods were used to assess motor functioning: (1) the Movement Assessment Battery for Children (Movement ABC); (2) a motor assessment battery, which included the Movement ABC, the Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual Motor Integration, and the Developmental Test of Visual Perception-2; (3) a Perinatal Follow-up Clinic protocol, which included the Geometric Design and the Mazes subtests of the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence-Revised, the Fine and Gross Motor subscales of the Child Development Inventory, and a pediatric neuromotor exam; and (4) a parent completed questionnaire (i.e., Developmental Coordination Disorder Questionnaire (DCDQ)). The prevalence of motor impairment in ELBW children was 64% on the Movement ABC, 67% on the motor assessment battery, 66% on the Perinatal Follow-up Clinic protocol, and 26% on the DCDQ. Sensitivity ranged from 36% to 100% and specificity from 65% to 92% using the Movement ABC as the reference standard. Neonatal risk factors associated with increased severity of motor impairment were bronchopulmonary dysplasia, postnatal steroids, and increasing gestational age. Children with birth weights ≤1,000 g are at considerable risk for motor impairment; therefore, developmental evaluations should include an assessment of motor functions. A standardized motor assessment test such as the Movement ABC appears to be the most effective and efficient means of identifying motor impairment in this high-risk population. For more than fifty years scholars, practitioners, and government officials have debated whether the federal government, the state governments, or the charitable sector itself can best ensure that charity leaders fulfill their fiduciary duties. The dramatic growth of this sector, recent highly publicized governance scandals, and a push in Congress and the IRS for more federal involvement in this area have now brought this issue to a head. This article lays a foundation for resolving the dispute by developing an institutional choice framework for considering and comparing the various available options. Applying that framework, the article concludes that the best regulators of charity governance would most likely be state-level government agencies that work with but have a limited degree of independence from the state attorneys general. The article also determines that the best way to ensure adoption of this institutional choice-and limit potential weaknesses-is for the federal government to provide dedicated funding for such agencies, which could be obtained through the already existing private foundation investment income tax.
