This paper considers security in eavesdropping attacks over wireless communication links in aeronautical telemetry systems. Here, we propose a secure coding technique for the integrated Network Enhanced Telemetry (iNET) communications system that can be coupled with modern encryption schemes. We consider a wiretap scenario where there are two telemetry links between a test article (TA) and a legitimate receiver, or ground station (GS). We show how these two links can be used to transmit both encrypted and unencrypted data streams while keeping both streams secure.

Economic, environmental, and political issues arising in the last two decades have changed agricultural practice worldwide. While the agrochemical market has diminished, time and cost of R & D and regulatory restrictions have increased, thereby reducing profit margins dramatically. This has led to a change of strategy from screening whole organisms to screening diverse compounds, with high-throughput screening processes similar to those used in drug discovery. For large-scale high-throughput screening to efficiently facilitate storage, retrieval, preparation and tracking of compounds, the sample management process needs to be highly automated. The introduction of modern automated technology will help to address the problems faced by the agrochemical industry.

The trend towards increased throughput pervades the drug discovery process. Developments in combinatorial chemistry have made available greater numbers of compounds for high-throughput screening, and advances in genomics have led to increased numbers of potential targets. These advances have been implemented by integration of sophisticated engineering and logistics. The author describes the current automated technologies used within the pharmaceutical industry and explains how continued advances in this area are necessary for maintaining growth of the industry.

Biomolecular screening is now enabled at a far greater scale than ever before due to the explosion of available libraries and targets. By the early '90s, however, it was becoming clear that the potential number of tests which could be done (theoretically the product of available test compounds multiplied by identified biological targets) was, in practice, being severely limited by the logistics of handling and preparing samples at rates exceeding 10,000 compounds per day. What was required was, in effect, a "sample supermarket" to feed screening research. This article describes the development of a solution to this problem, called Haystack, which was designed to be this sample supermarket, but with the addition of extensive use of robotics and computer based automation to reduce the scope for human error. The Haystack system consists of three broad types of modules which are: Sample Storage and Retrieval, Sample Dispensing and Preparation, and Sample Tracking and Data Management.
