Background: Nursing care delivery models may serve as a significant factor contributing to nurse satisfaction, frequency of missed care, and patient outcomes. Local problem: The nursing leadership team at our institution sought to determine if an adaptation of our primary registered nurse (RN) nursing model would enhance satisfaction of bedside nurses and care of patients. Methods: An improvement study introducing a care-based delivery model was implemented between January 2023 and January 2024 on a medical-surgical neurology/spinal unit at our organization. Interventions: Adoption of a care-based nursing model was supported with the delivery of brief education sessions utilizing in situ simulations for development of competencies in teamwork and delegation. Results: During the pilot period, overall satisfaction with job role improved 23%. Six missed nursing care elements and 7 teamwork elements significantly improved. In this article Debbie Abilock and Connie Williams apply the processes used by a food testing organization that strives to develop absolutely the best recipes for popular dishes, testing each recipe until they arrive at the combination of ingredients, technique, temperature, cooking time, and equipment that yields the best, most fool-proof recipe as their inspiration to develop a teaching recipe that would consistently engage students in open-minded inquiry, an infographic. An infographic is a claim expressed through visual metaphor, conveying the creator's fresh understanding of relationships, expressed through a judicious selection and arrangement of visuals, evidence, and text acquired during inquiry research within a discipline. They describe a process in which students develop a research question within a domain, investigate a variety of claims and evidence wherever they lead, play with connections and assess contradictions, and wonder about the possible significance of their findings. Abilock and Williams are sure that cultivating an open-minded disposition and thoughtful inquiry strategies will benefit students' civic literacy and creativity, and that students' thinking about the interaction between a complex text and images in the service of a purpose and audience will improve their reading comprehension.

School superintendents meet situations that range from those that require quick thinking to those that need thoughtful reflection and long-range planning. But almost every challenge requires some degree of political thinking and behavior. The authors have witnessed many school leaders get into sticky predicaments as a result of trying to maneuver through the politics surrounding the business of education. In this article, the authors propose five strategies for dealing with the politics school administrators encounter. Their advice is to "A"nticipate, "F"orm Alliances, "L"isten, "A"ctivate Networks, and "C"ommunicate. If school administrators practice these behaviors, they can be proactive and better prepared to handle political issues. (Contains 1 figure.)

Using a structured approach to improvement that integrates methodological frameworks and commonly used improvement tools and techniques allows an improvement team to systematically implement and evaluate an intervention. Authors from one academic medical center will describe our four-step structured improvement approach in the design of a dedicated education unit (DEU) pilot to potentially meet a critical post-COVID-19 workforce need. Using our structured improvement approach, we successfully piloted a DEU with a unit-based clinical educator and 16 nursing students over 26 clinical days and received 13 preintervention surveys from participants. Although the DEU pilot was small with limited data, the structured improvement approach resulted in an organized and systematic way of designing, implementing, and evaluating improvement.
