The electric quadrupole moment of $^{49}$Sc was measured by collinear laser spectroscopy at CERN-ISOLDE to be Qs=−0.159(8) eb, and a nearly tenfold improvement in precision was reached for the electromagnetic moments of $^{47,49}$Sc. The single-particle behavior and nucleon-nucleon correlations are investigated with the electromagnetic moments of Z=21 isotopes and N=28 isotones as valence neutrons and protons fill the distinctive 0f7/2 orbit, respectively, located between magic numbers, 20 and 28. The experimental data are interpreted with shell-model calculations using an effective interaction, and ab-initio valence-space in-medium similarity renormalization group calculations based on chiral interactions. These results highlight the sensitivity of nuclear electromagnetic moments to different types of nucleon-nucleon correlations, and establish an important benchmark for further developments of theoretical calculations.

International audience; The $\beta$ decay of the neutron-rich $^{134}$In and $^{135}$In was investigated experimentally in order to provide new insights into the nuclear structure of the tin isotopes with magic proton number $Z=50$ above the $N=82$ shell. The $\beta$-delayed $\gamma$-ray spectroscopy measurement was performed at the ISOLDE facility at CERN, where indium isotopes were selectively laser-ionized and on-line mass separated. Three $\beta$-decay branches of $^{134}$In were established, two of which were observed for the first time. Population of neutron-unbound states decaying via $\gamma$ rays was identified in the two daughter nuclei of $^{134}$In, $^{134}$Sn and $^{133}$Sn, at excitation energies exceeding the neutron separation energy by 1 MeV. The $\beta$-delayed one- and two-neutron emission branching ratios of $^{134}$In were determined and compared with theoretical calculations. The $\beta$-delayed one-neutron decay was observed to be dominant $\beta$-decay branch of $^{134}$In even though the Gamow-Teller resonance is located substantially above the two-neutron separation energy of $^{134}$Sn. Transitions following the $\beta$ decay of $^{135}$In are reported for the first time, including $\gamma$ rays tentatively attributed to $^{135}$Sn. In total, six new levels were identified in $^{134}$Sn on the basis of the $\beta \gamma \gamma$ coincidences observed in the $^{134}$In and $^{135}$In $\beta$ decays. A transition that might be a candidate for deexciting the missing neutron single-particle $13/2^+$ state in $^{133}$Sn was observed in both $\beta$ decays and its assignment is discussed. Experimental level schemes of $^{134}$Sn and $^{135}$Sn are compared with shell-model predictions. Using the fast timing technique, half-lives of the $2^+$, $4^+$ and $6^+$ levels in $^{134}$Sn were determined.

We demonstrate a continuously tunable, multi-Stokes Raman laser operating in the visible range (420 - 600 nm). Full spectral coverage was achieved by efficiently cascading the Raman shifted output of a tunable, frequency-doubled Ti:Sapphire laser. Using an optimized hemi-spherical external Raman cavity composed only of a diamond crystal and a single reflecting mirror, producing high power output at high conversion efficiency (>60 % from pump to Stokes) for a broad range of wavelengths across the visible. Enhancement of the cascading was achieved by controlling the polarization state of the pump and Stokes orders. The Stokes outputs exhibited a linewidth of 11 ± 1 GHz for each order, resembling the pump laser linewidth, enabling its use for the intended spectroscopic applications. Furthermore, the Raman laser performance was demonstrated by applying it for the resonance excitation of atomic transitions in calcium.

The spectroscopic electric quadrupole moment of the neutron-deficient francium isotope 203 Fr was measured by using high-resolution collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy (CRIS) at the CERN Isotope Separation On-Line Device (ISOLDE) facility. A remeasurement of the 207 Fr quadrupole moment was also performed, resulting in a departure from the established literature value. A sudden increase in magnitude of the 203 Fr quadrupole moment, with respect to the general trend in the region, points to an onset of static deformation at N = 116 in the 87 Fr isotopic chain. Calculation of the static and total deformation parameters show that the increase in static deformation only cannot account for the observed departure of its relative charge radius from the 82 Pb chain. Nuclear spins and precise values of the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments of the ground states of neutron-rich Cu73–78 isotopes were measured using the Collinear Resonance Ionization Spectroscopy (CRIS) experiment at the CERN On-Line Isotope Mass Separator (ISOLDE) facility. The nuclear moments of the less exotic Cu73,75 isotopes were remeasured with similar precision, yielding values that are consistent with earlier measurements. The moments of the odd-odd isotopes, and 2978Cu (N=49) in particular, are used to investigate excitations of the assumed doubly magic Ni78 core through comparisons with large-scale shell-model calculations. Despite the narrowing of the Z=28 shell gap between N∼45 and N=50, the magicity of Z=28 and N=50 is restored toward Ni78. This is due to weakened dynamical correlations, as clearly probed by the present moment measurements.
