2. Isospin influence on dynamical production of Intermediate Mass Fragments at Fermi Energies

Abstract

The Intermediate Mass Fragments emission probability from Projectile-Like Fragment break-up in semi-peripheral reactions has been measured in collisions of $^{124}$Xe projectiles with two different targets of $^{64}$Ni and $^{64}$Zn at the laboratory energy of 35 \amev. The two colliding systems differ only for the target atomic number Z and, consequently, for the Isospin $N/Z$ ratio. An enhancement of Intermediate Mass Fragments production for the neutron rich $^{64}$Ni target, with respect to the $^{64}$Zn, is found. In the case of one Intermediate Mass Fragment emission, the contributions of the dynamical and statistical emissions have been evaluated, showing that the increase of the effect above is due to an enhancement of the dynamical emission probability, especially for heavy IMFs (Z$\gtrsim$ 7). This proves an influence of the target Isospin on inducing the dynamical fragment production from Projectile-Like Fragment break-up. In addition, a comparison of the Xe+Ni,Zn results with the previously studied $^{112,124}Sn+^{58,64}Ni$ systems is discussed in order to investigate the influence of the projectile Isospin alone and to disentangle between Isospin effects against system-size effects on the emission probability. These comparisons suggest that the prompt-dynamical emission is mainly ruled by the $N/Z$ content of, both, projectile and target; for the cases here investigated, the influence of the system size on the dynamical emission probability can be excluded.

Body posture and the spine were examined using the Diers formetric III 4D optoelectronic method. Electromyographic analysis was performed using a 14-channel Noraxon TeleMyo DTS apparatus.Results: In girls, the highest mean SEMG frequency of the erector spinae, calculated from 16 measurements, occurred in the case of scoliotic posture (Mean = 73.69 Hz), while in boys, the greatest values were noted for scoliosis (Mean = 79.75 Hz). There was a significant correlation between erector spinae SEMG frequency and curvature location, both in the scoliosis group (p = 0.003) and in the group with scoliotic posture (p = 0.04). There was also a significant correlation between SEMG frequency of the erector spinae and direction of the curvature, both in the scoliosis (p = 0.01) and scoliotic posture groups (p = 0.04), as well as between the erector spinae SEMG frequency and the number of spinal curvatures (scoliosis group: p = 0.03; scoliotic posture group: p = 0.03).Conclusion: The study is of applicative value and fills the gap in research on erector spinae SEMG frequency of in low-grade scoliosis among small children. Our research can also be used in research on the etiology and progression scoliosis. Visible disturbances in the erector spinae SEMG frequency (activity and tension) contribute to the development of curvature and testify to the fact that these changes are the primary cause of idiopathic scoliosis. Scoliosis is merely a symptom, an external expression of CNS dysfunction that is not fully recognised. It is also visible on the SEMG record of postural muscles. Our objective is to contribute to creating a future model record for SEMG of the postural muscles, characteristic for children with scoliosis. Then, based on electromyographic examination, it will be possible to identify initial symptoms of scoliosis and start preventive rehabilitation before irreversible bone changes occur.Keywords: frequency electromyography of the erector spinae, surface topography, scoliosis, scoliotic posture

Abstract

Data from the experiment on the 197Au + 197Au reaction at 23 AMeV are analyzed with an aim to find signatures of exotic nuclear configurations such as toroid-shaped objects. The experimental data are compared with predictions of the ETNA code dedicated to look for such configurations and with the QMD model. A novel criterion of selecting events possibly resulting from the formation of exotic freeze-out configurations, "the efficiency factor", is tested. Comparison between experimental data and model predictions may indicate for the formation of flat/toroidal nuclear systems.

Thus, we aimed to evaluate treatment rate and factors associated with outcome and safety of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) in rural residents aged ≥ 80 years admitted to primary stroke centers.Patients and Methods: This study was a retrospective, observational cohort study of 873 patients treated with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) in primary stroke centers between February 1, 2009 and December 31, 2017. Among them were 527 rural residents and 231 (26.5%) were ≥ 80 years of age. The analyses between rural and urban patients aged ≥ 80 and between rural patients aged < 80 and aged ≥ 80 were performed.Results: The proportion of patients aged ≥ 80 treated with rt-PA was comparable in rural and urban residents (27.9% vs 24.3% p = 0.24). Rural patients aged ≥ 80 were also characterized by lower incidence of cardiovascular risk factors and better patients’ conditions on admission to hospital. Symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage rate among ≥ 80-year-old stroke patients was lower in those living in rural areas than in those living in urban areas (5.4% vs 14.3%, p = 0.02); there were no differences regarding mortality and 3-month functional outcome between both populations. The older group of rural patients was characterized by a higher 3-month mortality (28.5% vs 12.6%, p < 0.001) and lower functional independence rate (34.0% vs 50.5%, p < 0.001) than rural younger patients. Antiplatelet (OR 2.43, 95% CI 1.04– 5.66, p = 0.04) and anticoagulant therapy before stroke (OR 3.64, 95% CI 1.21– 10.99, p = 0.022), early ischemic changes in baseline computerized tomograprpahy (OR 2.65, 95% CI 1.03– 6.82, p = 0.043) were associated with unfavorable outcome; and higher National Institute of Health Stroke Scale score on admission (OR 1.01, 95% CI 1.01– 1.20, p = 0.039), higher baseline count of white blood cells (OR 1.33, 95% CI 1.10– 0.62, p = 0.003) were associated with mortality in rural patients over 80.Conclusion: We suggest that rural patients aged ≥ 80 may be safely treated with IVT in routine practice. Abstract

A project of using a target consisting of the mixture of (249-252)Cf isotopes to be bombarded with the 48Ca beam, aimed to synthesize new isotopes of the heaviest known element Z = 118, is under way at the FLNR in Dubna. In the present work excitation functions for all the reactions: 249Cf(48Ca,xn)(297-x)118, 250Cf(48Ca,xn)(298-x)118, 251Cf(48Ca,xn)(299-x)118 and 252Cf(48Ca,xn)(300-x)118 have been calculated in the framework of the fusion-by-diffusion model, assuming fission barriers, ground-state masses and shell effects of the superheavy nuclei predicted by Kowal et al. Abstract

We show new data from the $^{64}$Ni+$^{124}$Sn and $^{58}$Ni+$^{112}$Sn reactions studied in direct kinematics with the CHIMERA detector at INFN-LNS and compared with the reverse kinematics reactions at the same incident beam energy (35 A MeV). Analyzing the data with the method of relative velocity correlations, fragments coming from statistical decay of an excited projectile-like (PLF) or target-like (TLF) fragments are discriminated from the ones coming from dynamical emission in the early stages of the reaction. By comparing data of the reverse kinematics experiment with a stochastic mean field (SMF) + GEMINI calculations our results show that observables from neck fragmentation mechanism add valuable constraints on the density dependence of symmetry energy. An indication is found for a moderately stiff symmetry energy potential term of EOS., Comment: Talk given by E. Abstract

We present a new experimental method to correlate the isotopic composition of intermediate mass fragments (IMF) emitted at mid-rapidity in semi-peripheral collisions with the emission timescale: IMFs emitted in the early stage of the reaction show larger values of $<$N/Z$>$ isospin asymmetry, stronger angular anisotropies and reduced odd-even staggering effects in neutron to proton ratio $<$N/Z$>$ distributions than those produced in sequential statistical emission. All these effects support the concept of isospin "migration", that is sensitive to the density gradient between participant and quasi-spectator nuclear matter, in the so called neck fragmentation mechanism. By comparing the data to a Stochastic Mean Field (SMF) simulation we show that this method gives valuable constraints on the symmetry energy term of nuclear equation of state at subsaturation densities. Abstract

A complete set of existing data on hot fusion reactions leading to synthesis of superheavy nuclei of Z =114-118, obtained in a series of experiments in Dubna and later in GSI Darmstadt and LBNL Berkeley, was analyzed in terms of a new angular-momentum dependent version of the Fusion by Diffusion (FBD) model with fission barriers and ground-state masses taken from the Warsaw macroscopic-microscopic model (involving non-axial shapes) of Kowal et al. The only empirically adjustable parameter of the model, the injection-point distance (sinj), has been determined individually for all the reactions and very regular systematics of this parameter have been established. The regularity of the obtained sinj systematics indirectly points at the internal consistency of the whole set of fission barriers used in the calculations. Having fitted all the experimental excitation functions for elements Z = 114-118, the FBD model (with the new sinj systematics) was used to predict cross sections for synthesis of elements Z = 119 and 120. Regarding prospects to produce the new element Z = 119, our calculations prefer the 252Es(48Ca,xn)300-x119 reaction, for which the synthesis cross section of about 0.2 pb in 4n channel at Ec.m.= 220 MeV is expected. The most favorable reaction to synthesize the element Z = 120 turns out to be 249Cf(50Ti,xn)299-x120, but the predicted cross section for this reaction is only 6 fb (for 3n and 4n channels).

Abstract

Advances in paleogenomic research have provided new information about domesticated ani- mals, but we still know little about the history of cats. Until now, only one subspecies, the Near Eastern wildcat (Felis silvestris lybica), was known to have been domesticated. The domestica- tion areas were assumed to be the Near East and Egypt. From this region, cats spread to the Mediterranean and beyond. It has been accepted that the Roman legions played the primary role in the expansion of cats through northern Europe. However, we found that cats that carried mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplotypes of wildcats from the Near East were present in Cen- tral Europe as early as the Neolithic, well before Roman times, and may have been associated with Neolithic expansion. Our new results reveal the presence of the mtDNA haplotypes of the Near Eastern wildcats in Poland even in the pre-Neolithic period. This may suggest that the Near Eastern wildcats could have spread across Europe independently of agricultural expansion. Consequently, the natural range of Near Eastern wildcats may have been much broader than previously assumed. To understand how and when domestic cats appeared in Central Europe, we performed a target enrichment of ca. 57,000 genomic SNPs. We believe that this will allow us to definitively determine whether the appearance of the Near Eastern wildcat mtDNA in Central Europe was a natural admixture between the two subspecies or whether it was a human-induced dispersal of tame/domestic cats. Abstract

Aim: The Expansion-Contraction model has been used to explain the responses of species to climatic changes. During periods of unfavourable climatic conditions, species retreat to refugia from where they may later expand. This paper focuses on the palaeoecology of red deer over the past 54 ka across Europe and the Urals, to reveal patterns of change in their range and explore the role of environmental conditions in determining their distribution. Location: Europe and western Asia to 63°E. Taxon: Red deer (Cervus elaphus). Methods: We collected 984 records of radiocarbon-dated red deer subfossils from the Late Pleistocene and the Holocene, including 93 original dates. For each deer sample we compiled climatic and biome type data for the corresponding time intervals. Results: During the last 54 ka changes in red deer range in Europe and the Urals were asynchronous and differed between western and eastern Europe and western Asia due to different environmental conditions in those regions. The range of suitable areas for deer during the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) was larger than previously thought and covered vast regions not only in southern but also in western and eastern Europe. Throughout the period investigated the majority of specimens inhabited forests in the temperate climatic zone. The contribution of forests in deer localities significantly decreased during the last 4 ka, due to deforestation of Europe caused by humans. Mean January temperature was the main limiting factor for species distribution. Over 90% of the samples were found in areas where mean January temperature was above −10°C. Main conclusions: Red deer response to climatic oscillations are in agreement with the Expansion-Contraction model but in contradiction to the statement of only the southernmost LGM refugia of the species. During the last 54 ka red deer occurred mostly in forests of the temperate climatic zone. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Abstract

Domestication of horses fundamentally transformed long-range mobility and warfare1. However, modern domesticated breeds do not descend from the earliest domestic horse lineage associated with archaeological evidence of bridling, milking and corralling2–4 at Botai, Central Asia around 3500 bc3. Other longstanding candidate regions for horse domestication, such as Iberia5 and Anatolia6, have also recently been challenged. Thus, the genetic, geographic and temporal origins of modern domestic horses have remained unknown. Here we pinpoint the Western Eurasian steppes, especially the lower Volga-Don region, as the homeland of modern domestic horses. Furthermore, we map the population changes accompanying domestication from 273 ancient horse genomes. This reveals that modern domestic horses ultimately replaced almost all other local populations as they expanded rapidly across Eurasia from about 2000 bc, synchronously with equestrian material culture, including Sintashta spoke-wheeled chariots. We find that equestrianism involved strong selection for critical locomotor and behavioural adaptations at the GSDMC and ZFPM1 genes. Our results reject the commonly held association7 between horseback riding and the massive expansion of Yamnaya steppe pastoralists into Europe around 3000 bc8,9 driving the spread of Indo-European languages10. This contrasts with the scenario in Asia where Indo-Iranian languages, chariots and horses spread together, following the early second millennium bc Sintashta culture11,12. © 2021, The Author(s).

Abstract

The binary break-up of projectile-like fragments in non central heavy-ion collisions follows different decay patterns, from equilibrated emission towards dynamical (prompt) fission. Recently, comparing two systems with different N/Z in the entrance channel, it has been shown that the dynamical emission cross-section is enhanced for the most neutron rich system while the statistical emission cross-section is independent from the isotopic composition. In order to understand this dependence and disentangle it from the initial size of the nuclei, we have studied the two isobaric systems 124Xe+64 Zn and 124Xe+64 Ni at 35 A MeV (InKiIsSy experiment), in comparison with the previous studied reactions (124Sn +64 Ni and 112Sn +58 Ni) at the same bombarding energy. We present the first results evidencing a striking similar effect in the dynamical decay as a function of the N/Z of the target for equal size systems.

STRESZCZENIE Wstęp. Celem badań była analiza związku między kompensacją skolioz a reakcjami posturalnymi u dziewcząt w wieku szkolnym. Materiał i Metody. Badaniami objęto 28 dziewcząt w wieku 7-18 lat. W badaniach kręgosłupa wykorzystano fotogrametryczną metodę moire’. Na podstawie wielko­ści kąta skrzywienia kręgosłupa wyodrębniono postawę skoliotyczną: 1-9° i skoliozy: ≥10°. Reakcje posturalne badano statyczno-dynamiczną platformą ST 310 Plus Stability System firmy Tecnobody. Wyniki. Dzieci z postawą skoliotyczna było 21 (75) a ze skoliozą 7 (25%). W skrzywieniach pierwotnych zarówno w badaniu z oczami otwartymi jak i zamkniętymi wystąpiły istotne wprost proporcjonalne korelacje między zmiennymi skoliotycznymi a reakcjami posturalnymi. Większym wartościom zmiennych skoliotycznych towarzyszył wzrost reakcji posturalnych. W skrzywieniach wtórnych zarówno w badaniu z oczami otwartymi jak i zamkniętymi wystąpiły istotne ale odwrotnie proporcjonalne korelacje między zmiennymi skoliotycznymi a reakcjami posturalnymi. Zgodnie z zasadą kompensacji wyższym wartościom zmiennych skoliotycznych towarzyszył spadek reakcji posturalnych. Wniosek. W skoliozach skompensowanych poprzez wyrównanie skrzywień pierwotnych i wtórych obserwowano niższe amplitudy reakcji posturalnych. Terapia skolioz powinna być nakierowana na korekcję wygięcia pierwotnego. Niwelowanie wygięć wtórnych musi być temu podporządkowane. Doprowadzenie do zmniejszenia wygięć wtórnych bez uzyskania jednoczesnego niwelowania wygięcia pierwotnego jest szkodliwe. ABSTRACT Introduction. The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between scoliosis compensation and postural responses in school girls. Material and Methods. Spinal testing was carried out using the photogrammetric Moiré method. Based on the angle size of the spinal curvature, scoliosis posture was distinguished: 1-9° and scoliosis: ≥10°. Postural reactions were examined using the ST 310 Plus Stability System, Tecnobody platform. Results. There were 21 (75%) children with scoliotic posture and 7 (25%) with scoliosis (25%). In primary spinal clavicular, both during tests with open and closed eyes, there were significant direct proportional correlations between clavicular and postural responses. Higher values of clavicular variables were accompanied by increased postural responses. In secondary claviculars, both during tests conducted with open and closed eyes, there were significant but inversely proportional correlations between scoliotic variables and postural responses. Higher values of the sclerotic variables were accompanied by a decrease in postural responses. Conclusion. In compensated scoliosis, by alignment of primary and secondary claviculars, lower postural amplitudes of postural responses were observed. Scoliosis therapy should be directed towards the correction of the primary deflection. Levelling secondary deflections must be subordinated to this. Reducing secondary deflections without simultaneous compensation of the primary deflections is detrimental. Abstract

Semi-peripheral collisions of 64Ni + 124Sn in direct and inverse kinematics, at 35 A MeV incident energy, are studied to characterize the dynamical origin and align-ments properties of fragments emission at midrapidity. This emission is partly due to the fragmentation of a transient neck joining the projectile and target in the early stages of the reaction. Recently we exploited observable from neck fragmentation to constraint the density dependence of the symmetry energy. In this contribution we focus on the density evolution of the mid-rapidity source. An experimental survey is suggested to check if data are consistent with the formation of neck fragments in a dilute density region in contact with the projectile-like and target-like spectators at normal saturation density.
