3. COVID-19, Emergency Remote Teaching Evaluation: The Case of Indonesia

Abstract

The global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged educational institutions worldwide to rapidly shift to an online mode of teaching. In this paper, we discuss the concept of emergency remote teaching (ERT), including its implementation and evaluation, in the context of higher education in Indonesia. The Context, Input, Process, and Product framework was used to evaluate the implementation of ERT based on the experiences of 45 faculty members and 82 students from seven universities and colleges in three provinces in Indonesia. This study revealed several points of view. First, the shift to the ERT process depends on various aspects: internal organizational resources (curriculum, staff development, and technology), and external challenges (lack of access to a fast, affordable, and reliable Internet connection and the socioeconomic problems of the participants). Second, the ERT learning design needs to be framed using three principles: simplicity, flexibility, and empathy. The schools/administrators understand that this is not a normal situation in which learning competency standards must be rigorously met. In a crisis, given the facts that show disparities in technology and Internet networks, curriculum fulfillment is not the sole issue; it is also important to care for and support learners during this difficult time. This study provides recommendations that will serve as input for future strategies and educational policies in Indonesia, and developing countries in general. Additionally, this study can also be used as a benchmark for evaluating learning in similar situations in other countries.

15. Tempe Wastewater Treatment Using Effective Microorganisms Made from Kepok Banana Peel Waste

Abstract

Wastewater produced by the tempeh industry contains a high organic content, so it requires serious handling so as not to cause pollution in water bodies. One method that can accelerate the decomposition of the organic substance process is to use Lactobacillus sp. bacteria as effective microorganisms (EM). The material used to manufacture EM is sourced from kepok banana peel waste, which has a carbohydrate content of 9.8%. This study aims to examine the effect of EM concentration and residence time on reducing pollutants in tempeh wastewater using EM made from kepok banana peel waste. The EM concentrations were 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% successively, with residence times of 0, 4, 8, 12, and 16 days. The researchers used a batch system in a 5-litre plastic tube reactor with an aeration system. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of adding EM from kepok banana peel waste in reducing Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) levels. Specifically, a 20% dose of EM resulted in a 78.13% removal, a 30% dose of Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) led to a 78.01% reduction, and a 10% dose of Total Suspended Solid (TSS) resulted in a 66.81% removal over an optimum residence time of 16 days., Wastewater produced by the tempeh industry contains a high organic content, so it requires serious handling so as not to cause pollution in water bodies. Abstract

Indonesia is a country with a high biodiversity of algae, especially brown algae. Here, we studied the bioactivity of the lipid compounds in Indonesian brownalgae, Sargassum polycystum. Dried and powdered brown algae were extracted with chloroform:methanol:water. The lipid extract was collected and the solvent was evaporated. The characteristic of the compounds was then analysed by Thin Layer Chromatography with Silica Gel 60F254 as the stationary phase and petroleum ether:dietylether:acetic acid as the mobile phase. Upon elution, the lipid compounds were then detected with sulfur acid reagent. The anti-oxidant activity of the extract was then analysed by DPPH method, and the anti-diabetic effect of the compound was then analysed in the alloxan-induced diabetic rats. TLC analyses showed that the majorcompound in theSargassum polycystum lipid extract wasfattyacids. The lipid extractalsoshown anti-oxidantactivity in DPPHmethod, with IC50of460.5 µg/ml. Moreoverthe extract alsoloweredfastingbloodglucose level in alloxan-inducedrats. Abstract

The potential of seaweed, especially Sargassum sp. as raw material for organic fertilizer is promising to overcome several problems in agriculture. In previous research that organic seaweed fertilizer has an effect on increasing the biodiversity of microorganisms in the soil. The same work was also carried out in this study, but the previous study was carried out on a pot scale, while the current study was carried out on a wider rice field scale. The results of this study indicate an increase in the abundance of soil microorganisms as a result of the application of seaweed fertilizer, especially from the Archae group, namely Candidatus nitrosotalea in soils that are given organic seaweed fertilizer, especially in the CFSF2 treatment. These Archae play a role in oxidizing ammonia where ammonia oxidation is an important process in the nitrogen cycle to maintain good soil quality. This is also in line with the grain yields obtained. The area of land used in each treatment was 700 m2 and the total grain weight obtained from each treatment was CF (275.8 kg), CFSF1 (329 kg), and CFSF2 (343.7 kg). Therefore, it is hoped that future agricultural activities will apply green agricultural practices to support the creation of sustainable agriculture and a blue economy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Exposure to UV light for a long time without anti-UV protection can induce sunburn, premature aging, inflammation, even melanoma skin cancer. Currently sunscreens mostly contain ZnO and TiO2 which causes risks for skin in long term use. Meanwhile, natural product-basedsunscreens can be an alternative for anti-UV protection derived from marine macroalgae. Based on previous research Sargassumcristaefolium an antioxidant activity which has been tested in vitro and in vivo analysis. Sargassumcristaefolium produces pigments known as fucoxanthin which gives them their brown color. Fucoxanthin has been reported as having antioxidant activity. The Melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R) is a receptor that plays an important role in melanoma cell cancer. However, the molecular mechanism of fucoxanthin inhibiting MC1R has never been described before. So, the aim of this research is to investigate the potential of fucoxanthin inhibition MC1R receptor by an in silico study. Chemical structure of fucoxanthin constructed by ChemDraw software. MC1R (PDB ID: 7F41) was obtained from protein data bank (PDB). Preparation ligand and receptor was done by DS BIOVIA. Determination docking area carried out by AutoDockTools-1.5.7 and molecular docking study was done by AutoDockVina. The result showed that fucoxanthin having lowest binding affinity to inhibit MC1R receptor in -8.5 kcal/mol than positive control kojic is -4.2 kcal/mol and arbutin is -6.6 kcal/mol. Fucoxanthin also showed in molecular docking visualization that it tethered in a binding pocket of MC1R. Meanwhile, fucoxanthin and MC1R interactions formed Van der Waals, Alkyl, Pi-Alkyl chemical bond types that potentially contribute to the change of MC1R structure which may result in functional changes. Therefore, it can be assumed that fucoxanthin has the potential as an MC1R inhibitor in accordance with the aim of this study. Abstract

This research is proposed to identify marketing strategic of Samarium ethylenediaminetetramethylene phosphonic acid (Sm 153-EDTMP) that is used for palliative treatment of bone metastasis towards utilization policy by the Nuclear Medicine Doctors. The data is obtained from the questionnaire that were spread out to Nuclear Medicine Doctors in a number of Hospital in Indonesia as respondents. The respondents were 35 of Nuclear Medicine Doctors. This number represents 80 % of Nuclear Medicine Doctors population in Indonesia. The research methodology is accomplished by descriptive explorative analysis. The results are: (1) dose, side effect of Sm 153-EDTMP that is more tolerating than morphine, (2) according to the local product promotion, Sm 153-EDTMP is able to be delivered more effectively to the user through detailing, symposium, internet (3) the price of the local product of Sm 153-EDTMP that is way more cheaper than morphine. By paying attention to marketing strategies through product advantages, promotional forms and prices SM 153-EDTMP shows that these products can be used by Nuclear Medicine specialists (SpKN) as a palliative treatment for cancer that spreads to the bones.

Abstract

This research was motivated by a decrease in the number of prescription sheets with the number of visits from 2016 to 2020 and patient dissatisfaction in the form of complaints at this hospital. The purpose of this study was to determine the patient's response to brand awareness and brand image regarding the decision to use the outpatient unit at Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi Hospital. This type of research is descriptive using a quantitative approach. The population in this study were general patients who redeemed drugs through a doctor's prescription at the IFRS outpatient unit of the Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi Hospital in Cengkareng with a total sample of 365 general patients. The data was processed using the statistical test of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) which was run through AMOS 24. The results showed that the quality of drug services had a positive and significant effect on trust, trust had a positive and significant effect on brand awareness, and trust had no positive effect on brand image. where p value = 0.301 and brand awareness has a positive and significant influence on brand image.
