Overthinking is one of the big problems for young people nowadays. The release of the music video of Takut by Idgitaf is very relatable to the overthinking phenomenon that occurs in young people. This research aims to analyze overthinking representations in the music video of Takut by Idgitaf. The method used in this analysis is qualitative and the theory of Roland Barthes to identify myth, denotation, and connotation meanings in the video. Semiotic signs are found in the music video Takut by Idgitaf, both visually through video and verbally through the lyrics. The research proves that the music video for this song of Takut by Idgitaf has been signed visually and verbally, describing a person's overthinking attitude towards everything, especially young people. This song explores the feelings of young people nowadays about the stress of thinking about the future, the fear of failure, and the anxiety about getting older also means increased responsibility. Besides, this song conveys how young people can deal with overthinking.

This article explores the representation of irony in WhatsApp Group chats, aiming to identify the types of irony and narrate the meaning of the irony used. A case study was geared under Perrine's (1966) and Leech's (1981) analysis of the type of irony. Moreover, the result disclosed that touches of sarcasm were the favorable choice of irony to express the participants’ feelings. Sarcasm was detected by using uppercase characters, exclamation marks, and teasing words. Hyperbole and understatement were the second participants’ favorite to use to exaggerate reality and make a dramatic situation. Furthermore, implementing irony in daily conversation with decent knowledge is significant to flourish and enrich their linguistic adequacy to avoid misunderstanding and know the appropriate situation manual students' exploitations of irony will.

The purpose of this study was to apply an effective learning model in increasing the ability to appreciate literature while at the same time increasing the interest and ability of the students of SMP Negeri 14 Binjai towards literary works. The research conducted was Classroom Action Research (CAR) with the research subject of 25 grade IX students of SMP Negeri 14 Binjai in the 2020/2021 academic year. The object of this research is the ability of students to rewrite the contents of the story (rewrite), retell the story (retell), and conclude the moral message as well as relate it to student life (reflection). The learning process to appreciate literature is carried out in two cycles through four stages, namely: the action planning stage, the action implementation stage, the observation stage, and the analysis and reflection stage. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the students' ability to appreciate literature increases, this is indicated by the increase in the results of the three tests (rewrite, retell, reflection) of students at the end of each cycle. The average value of students' appreciation of literature has increased in each cycle, namely: 1) in the initial survey as many as 7 students (28%) of the total students who achieved a complete score, with an overall average score of 62.76; 2) in the first cycle, 15 students (60%) achieved a complete score, with an average overall score of 66.88; 3) in the second cycle there was a drastic increase in student mastery, namely a total of 25 students (100%) achieving a complete score with an average value of 78.8.

The usefulness of the media learning app is very accepted by the public because it allows users, especially for Students. Advantages in the use of media applications can add new knowledge to a lesson. To facilitate the learning experience of the student, to learning to speak German can use the app Quizizz. Features. Quizizz is very easy for students to understand and explore a learning material. This research was conducted by interviewing 10 students of education German language ever use the app Quizizz with the aim to see the opinion of the experience of students who learn using the application. Based on the results of this research, many of the students of the educational program of the German language, said that the experience of learning with the application quizizz is very easy to understand the material of the German language and is also very effective in explore and evaluate his understanding.

This study deals with Gender Humor Discourse in ‘Friends’ Comedy Series. The aims of the study are 1) to categorize the types of gender humors used in ‘Friends’ comedy series, 2) to describe how gender humors realized in ‘Friends’ comedy series, and 3) to explain the reason of realizing gender humors in ‘Friends’ comedy series in the ways they are. The study used a qualitative descriptive method and a critical discourse analysis approach. The data of the study is drawn from scripts consisted clauses of gender humor discourse in ‘Friends’ comedy series. The techniques for collecting data were observing the plot of the comedy series and selecting episodes which the one that contained the most humor in friendship then download the episodes selected to be observed, after that make documentations by trimming the scenes for making the transcript of dialogues from cut scenes and finding expressions appeared of all players in the comedy series to be observe. The results of study found that there were twenty-six clauses consisted humor types found in this study namely: Self-defeating types were eight (31%). Aggressive types were seven (27%), Affiliative types were six (23%) and elf-enhancing types were five (19%), It can be concluded that Self-defeating types became had high frequency in ‘Friends’ comedy series. From forty-three clauses in ‘Friends’ comedy series, there were nine form of ten humor form realized in ‘Friends’ comedy series, they are Pun form, Riddle form, Joke form, Satire form, Anecdote form, Farce form, Irony form, Sarcasm form, and Wit form. From nine forms of verbal humor, Farce form became had high frequency in the kind of verbal humor of ’Friends’ comedy series. Finally the last study results, there were three reason of realizing humors discourse namely: Universal joke, Cultural Joke, and Linguistic joke.

A plethora of previous studies has shown that corrective feedback can benefit students to progress in their learning. Due to technological advancement, there is a need to investigate the profile of corrective feedback to students’ writing via automated writing evaluation (AWE), particularly in the Indonesian higher education context. Therefore, this research aims to employ an AWE platform, Grammarly, to investigate the Indonesian English as a foreign language (EFL) students’ writing profiles in spelling, grammar, punctuation, enhancement suggestion, sentence structure, and style check. This ex post facto study explored the assignment written by 54 fourth-semester English department students enrolled in an academic writing course at an Indonesian university. The students’ writing profiles were classified, identified, and categorized using the Grammarly platform. Descriptive statistics were used to obtain the average, standard deviation, and significant differences according to the writing profiles between male and female students. The result stated that grammar is the major problem possessed by students. Furthermore, teachers are expected to provide online corrective feedback for students in the Academic Writing course learning process.

This study aims to examine the figurative language used in two translated chapters taken from Friedrich Nietzsche's novel, Zarathustra. The two chapters chosen are namely Kebajikan yang Mengecilkan and Tiga Hal yang Jahat. This is a qualitative research which involves the stylistic approach in order to bring out the stylistic devices used in the chosen chapters; simile and personification. The data of this study were collected from the two translated chapters of the novel. In this study, it is found that a total of nine figures of speech were investigated: seven figures of simile and two other figures of personification respectively. The results of this study revealed that the simile device focused on illustrating the author's visual reality for the readers about the protagonist's situations, life-story, and imagination. On the other hand, the personification device illustrated the protagonist's visual aspects, ideas, and imagination which are very analogous to the author's perspective.

This article explores learners' perceptions of their speaking ability, contributions to oral class activities in the EFL classroom, and attitudes toward these activities, as well as how these perceptions and attitudes influenced learners' readiness to communicate in the L2. The study used a variety of data collection instruments, but the online interview was the primary source of data. This study included twenty students from the English department (L2). During the online interview, students were asked to reflect on their opinions of problems encountered when studying and speaking in an EFL classroom. It was discovered that lack of vocabulary (35%) fluency (25%), anxiety (15%), grammar (10%), pronunciation (10%), and use of English with peers (5%) are the elements that make pupils feel uneasy when speaking in English. The findings of this study show that students' perceptions of the speaking activities and of themselves as learners in the foreign language classroom influenced their readiness to communicate in a variety of ways. In general, as learners' self-esteem grew, so did their readiness to use the L2 in class

The article concerns a critical discourse analysis (CDA) of women as subjects of violence in Indonesia during the current Corona Virus 19 (COVID19) pandemic. Through the framework of critical discourse analysis, it aims to determine how news online presents an overview and perspectives on the problem of women who experience intimate partner violence during the current pandemic. The research design chosen is qualitative research with the tools of content analysis. Critical discourse analysis describes the language employed to convey meaning in the content of BBC news online. While the BBC's online news online highlighted the existence of gender symmetry and stereotype abusers throughout the epidemic experienced by women, the BBC's online news online was able and daring enough to highlight the marginalization of women.

This research dealt with Conversational Implicature in Dialogue of LayarTerkembang Novel By SutanTakdirAlisjahbana based on Grice’s Theory and it was aimed to finding out the types of conversational implicature, and to describe why the certain type of conversational implicature becomes dominant. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The source of the data was taken from LayarTerkembang novelby SutanTakdirAlisjahbana, Then the dialogue of the novel as the data for the research. The findings showed that there were two types of conversational implicature in the procedures namely Generalized Conversational Implicature belong to 33 utterances and Particularized Conversational Implicature belong to 36 utterances. So, the most dominant types of conversational implicaturebetween the main characters in the novel was particularized conversational implicature because it more contained ambiguity, implicit meaning, conveyed an additional meaning, and their response did not relevant with every question and also it cannot easily to understand what he/she was talking about.

The result section is an essential part of the thesis to summarize information about research findings. Presenting research findings in terms of clear and concise writing is vital for the English students of the higher education. To this, students should know the linguistic aspects of writing. Previous research shows that a lot of research has been carried out regarding grammatical issues in writing, but little research has been done on deep grammar issues in writing the result section of the thesis. Thus, this study aims to analyze the grammatical issues in student-researchers’ thesis. Data were officially collected from the reading room of the faculty of state university in Medan. The data were analyzed according to Bourke & Holbrook's (1992) theory. The results show student-researchers are still struggling to use verb-form issues, nouns, and tenses. At last, word form remains the most dominant issues of errors.

The research focused on logico-semantic relations in the Batak Toba wedding ceremony. The research aimed to discover the types of logico-semantic relations used in mangulosi and describe how they were realized in the Batak Toba wedding ceremony. The research was conducted by using the descriptive qualitative method. The data were taken from 2 wedding ceremony videos from 104 clause complexes selected. The study's finding showed that there were 9 of the logico-semantic relations types used in the Batak Toba wedding ceremony. They were consecutively hypotactic enhancement, hypotactic elaboration, paratactic enhancement, paratactic elaboration, hypotactic locution, paratactic extension, hypotactic extension, hypotactic idea, and paratactic idea. The logico-semantic relations were realized in mangulosi in Batak Toba wedding ceremony consecutively conjunction, verb, preposition, prepositional phrase, and adverbial clause which the utterances aimed about the message, prediction in the future, advice, hope, and blessing of hulahula for the bridegroom.

Women in Indonesia have long struggled for the better life. The struggle has been started from the colonial period. They struggled for getting independance, getting education, and getting better economic life. This study concerns with woman struggle for belief in Okky madasari’ Entrok. Okky is one of the woman writers in Indonesia. She has won Khatulistiwa Literary Award, a prestigious award for writers in Indonesia. Sumarni, the main character in Okky’s Entrok, struggled for her belief , Javanism, among the Moslems community. Javanism is the belief of the Javanese people which is not the religion stated by the government. This study uses This study used a qualitative method with descriptive and hermeneutics approach. Sociological literary concept is used to see the reflection of the community in literary works. The result shows that Sumarni still convinces with her belief although her surrounding doesn’t support her and oppose her. She also quarells with her only daughter who is a Moslem. Sumarni still performs all the ceremonies in Javanism. She shows to the society that she could be good person in spite of her belief.
