The purpose of this study is to describe the Regent's mitigation program of increasing Sragen community participation through the excavation of local wisdom and communal values. This is known as 'social solidarity,' and this article locates social solidarity in pager mangkok, a mitigation program for facing the COVID-19 pandemic, and the jogo tonggo program, a product of the Central Java Provincial government. Approaches to women's political leadership, public policy, and implementation are all parts of the theory used to support the concept of social solidarity. Data was collected through observation methods, documentation, and library research. The results show that the sudden spread of COVID-19 on a global scale became a shocking and stressful moment for the people of Sragen Regency. The task force jogo tonggo formed by the local government was beneficial for the people of Sragen Regency when combined with the social solidarity of the pager mangkok movement. The social solidarity of the people of Sragen Regency through the pager mangkok movement became a power for the community in this hard time. Pager mangkok is conducted through greeting each other on social media, being aware of each other's condition, and helping each other voluntarily and transparently. This practice became a means to take care of each other, protect each other, and strengthen the mitigation program for families during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Citarum River revitalization program through the "Citarum Harum" program, focuses on integrated cooperation between multi-sector actors in managing the Citarum Watershed sustainably and improving the quality of life around the river. Such as ministries (central government) acting as policy and regulation providers and as the leading sector, local governments acting as program supervisors and monitors, academics/universities acting as knowledge creators and program management innovations, the private sector acting as important partners, communities acting as program supporters and participants, and the Indonesian National Army (Tentara National Indonesia, TNI) acting as initiators, law enforcers, and field supervisors. This article outlines some of the challenges faced by Citarum Watershed, as well as important findings regarding collaborative sustainable and resilient watershed management, particularly in the context of the Citarum River, Indonesia. In this commentary, we underscore the importance of collaborative efforts, effective policy frameworks, and adaptive management strategies in addressing the environmental challenges faced by the Citarum River, while highlighting the need for ongoing commitment from all stakeholders during program implementation and post-program. The implications of these findings suggest a holistic, inclusive, and adaptive approach to sustainable management of watersheds and the environment that can be applied to other regions facing similar challenges such as Pollution; Environmental Degradation; Critical Land and Sedimentation; Inadequate Infrastructure; Population Growth and Urbanization; Climate Change, Weak Law Enforcement, and Lack of Coordination Among Stakeholders. Article highlights: Management of the Citarum River Basin (Daerah Aliran Sungai, DAS) is a mainstay of household life, urban communities, the environment, and supports industrial activities in the western region of Java Island, where no other river has a role and function as large as the Citarum River Basin. Challenges in the complexity of Citarum River Basin management highlight the need for an integrated and multi-stakeholder approach to ensure sustainable water resources management and environmental protection. The emphasis on Indonesian policy regulation and interactive collaboration model of various mutually beneficial helixes are the keys to success in sustainable and resilient management of the Citarum River Basin. Significant barriers that need to be considered in the Quintuple Helix Model framework are related to power dynamics, operational clarity, resource allocation, community involvement, and stakeholder integration to achieve its goals effectively. During the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (2001–2021), the expected representation of Afghan women in leadership and executive roles was not achieved. This study examines factors contributing to this glass ceiling effect. Our research involved 317 participants, comprising 302 civil service professionals and 15 civil society activists. Employing a mixed-methods approach, thematic analysis was conducted for the qualitative data. For the quantitative data, descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation were utilized to characterize the data, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to explore differences in responses across key demographic and professional categories. We found that several glass ceiling perceptions, specifically ‘Cultural Barrier Factors’ including entrenched patriarchal norms and familial challenges; ‘Individual Factors’ such as work-family conflict (WFC); ‘Work-Environment Factors’ like nepotism and the absence of merit-based systems; and ‘Interpersonal Relationships’ including weak support networks and the existence of ‘Queen Bee Syndrome’, impeded the advancement of Afghan women in leadership roles. The transformative research lens incorporates ideas such as consciously addressing power differences with strategies that allow for the inclusion of the voices of the full range of stakeholders, including those who are most marginalized. The goal of transformative research is to support the development of culturally responsive interventions that foster increased respect for human rights and achievement of social, economic, and environmental justice. In this article, we use a case study from Universitas Padjadjaran in Indonesia to illustrate the application of a transformative approach to research in a complex setting in which the rights of those living in poverty are not respected and economic development occurs at the expense of environmental degradation. We discuss a transformative framing for research associated with the development of interventions designed to support West Java, Indonesia in moving forward toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the goals established by the United Nations to address inequities. The road to transformation is not simple or smooth, but the combination of a transformative approach to research with the development of transformative interventions provides a hopeful pathway.

In this commentary essay, we see that the trend of community-based waste management in Indonesia provides a comprehensive adaptive capacity framework to overcome environmental problems that often occur in developing countries. Where in the twenty-first century, waste management has become an important environmental and public health problem. This commentary argues that in Indonesia, the trend in waste management has changed from activities carried out by the government to community-based social activities, which significantly manage waste with economic value and have a positive impact on the environment. The trend of community-based waste management practices through waste banks in Indonesia is more defined as a waste management movement that seeks to achieve empowerment and support a circular economy and environmental resilience through sustainable and resilient socio-environmental action. This short comment explains that the Waste Bank in Indonesia contributes to more interactive environmental resilience and disseminates wise waste behaviour among the wider community. This paper explores the concept of community engagement, aligned with President Jokowi's mission to promote social enterprises, as a means to support the development of a re‐generative circular green economy in Tarumajaya, West Java. The primary focus is on enhancing farming, fishing, and forestry activities with villagers. The Covid‐19 pandemic presented significant challenges for the villagers, particularly in marketing their goods, resulting in financial hardships and an increased vulnerability to debt traps, particularly affecting women. Additionally, a major obstacle to achieving regenerative living is the limited access to land, with approximately 80% of the villagers either landless or owning small plots. Moreover, fishing restrictions imposed by the military to protect the Citarum River have further curtailed access to common grazing land for cattle. Preliminary analysis indicates that adopting intensive farming methods, such as rabbit breeding, mushroom cultivation, and fertiliser production, holds promise for reducing the community's carbon footprint. Overcoming these challenges and mapping pathways towards regenerative living are central objectives of this case study, providing insights and practical strategies to foster sustainable economic and environmental progress in Tarumajaya. Key components of the approach include finding markets for village products, extending access to common resources such as rivers, forests, and hillside terraces to villagers, and providing mentorship to women for supporting their small enterprises. The ongoing partnership with the village involves a community of practice consisting of universities and nongovernmental organisations, while private sector entities, including a gas company and tea and coffee plantations, are engaged in negotiations with the village head to secure additional land access. This study highlights the combination of challenges arising from the lack of access to common resources, limited market opportunities, and the influence of predatory financial institutions during the pandemic. By working closely with the villagers, the case study aims to identify opportunities and support the transition towards a green circular economy that moves away from business as usual and promotes regenerative living. This paper aims is to analyze several challenges’ those faced by local governments in Indonesia, including its provinces, districts and cities, in implementing the Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme. The analysis is focused on 3 challenges, as follows: 1) budget; 2) regulations (Act Number 23 of 2014 concerning Regional Government, Government Regulation Number 27 of 2014 concerning Government Asset Management and Presidential Regulation Number 38 of 2015 concerning Public and Private Partnership for Provision of Infrastructure), and 3) the party that involve on PPP projects. Therefore, some of the developed recommendations are expected to be solution for the local government in addressing these challenges.

The objective of this study is to examine the implementation of a combined scheme involving payment environment services (PES) and non-payment environment services (non-PES) in the management of the Cidanau River Basin. This study used exploratory research to analyse the structure and mechanism of PES and non-PES schemes for the governance system. The Cidanau Watershed governance is a pioneer in sustainable integrated water resources management in Indonesia and has persisted until the present time. The governance of the Cidanau Watershed is dynamic, resilient, and evolving in response to various changes in social and ecological systems. A bridging organisation like the Cidanau Watershed Communication Forum (Ind.: Forum Komunikasi DAS Cidanau -- FKDC) requires legal standing to be visible and gain the trust of the public, especially when implementing a PES approach like the Cidanau River Basin, where service buyers utilise non-direct payment mechanisms. The challenging aspect of developing a PES scheme is empowering knowledge regarding the importance of soil and water preservation among upstream communities, particularly in developing countries like Indonesia, where upstream communities are predominantly composed of low-income farmers whose livelihoods depend on nature. The non-PES scheme represents the government's mandatory responsibility, whereas the PES scheme presents public participation in active collaboration through the FKDC as an ad hoc institution. A combination of the non-PES and PES scheme approach can serve as a model and reference for similar river basin governance frameworks. Further research is needed regarding social networks and institutional development of sustainable watershed governance in the Cidanau River Basin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
