This article focuses on the people who work sincerely for their organizations. They are the ones of the middle class who have left home, spiritually as well as physically, to take the vows of organization life, and it is they who are the mind and soul of these self-perpetuating institutions. The corporation man is the most conspicuous example for the collectivization so visible in the corporation and has affected almost every field of work. It is in the U.S., that the contrast between the old ethic and current reality has been most apparent. Of all people it is these people who have led in the public worship of individualism. Today it is the members of the organization most responsible for change in the corporation and they are the ones who try the hardest. It is the corporation man whose institutional ads protest so much that people in the U.S. speak up in town meetings. Intellectual scoldings based on an impossibly lofty ideal may be of some service in upbraiding organization man with his failures, but they can give him no guidance. The organization man may agree that industrialism has destroyed the moral fabric of society.
