The OneFlorida Data Trust is a centralized research patient data repository created and managed by the OneFlorida Clinical Research Consortium ("OneFlorida"). It comprises structured electronic health record (EHR), administrative claims, tumor registry, death, and other data on 17.2 million individuals who received healthcare in Florida between January 2012 and the present. Ten healthcare systems in Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Gainesville, and rural areas of Florida contribute EHR data, covering the major metropolitan regions in Florida. Deduplication of patients is accomplished via privacy-preserving entity resolution (precision 0.97-0.99, recall 0.75), thereby linking patients' EHR, claims, and death data. Another unique feature is the establishment of mother-baby relationships via Florida vital statistics data. Research usage has been significant, including major studies launched in the National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network ("PCORnet"), where OneFlorida is 1 of 9 clinical research networks. Purpose – Increased use and changes in the way e-resources are delivered led some libraries to question the detail of some of the definitions used and particularly to suggest that statistics required by SCONUL did not always match the requirements or practice of the libraries themselves. The purpose of this paper is to explore a set of e-measures. Design/methodology/approach – A pilot project was set up to test a set of e-measures, sufficiently robust to give confidence in their use in a national/international context and in benchmarking individual libraries. A total of 20 SCONUL members made quarterly returns during 2009-10. During the year, categories and definitions were adjusted in the light of comments received. A workshop was held to exchange views and inform the decision on what went into the new return. Findings – It was clear from the start that practice varied, and compromise would be required. Foremost among the changes are: inclusion of e-resources held within databases in the count of titles; count of free titles or titles purchased in previous years; inclusion of database searches; separation of costs of different types of e-resource. Originality/value – The SCONUL statistics are a tool and servant of the members, helping libraries to run more effectively, and at the same time providing valuable evidence on UK academic libraries and their activities to the wider world. The new e-measures questions will provide a reliable picture of the use of e-resources across the sector and be useful to libraries individually or in benchmarking groups in assessing their own usage. This article presents the findings of the Chartered Institute of Librarians and Information Professionals (CILIP) salary survey 2004 in Great Britain. The survey was conducted via the CILIP Web site, and all members were invited to complete it. Of the 3,039 responses received, 2,589 records were analyzed, after duplicate and blank responses had been deleted. When asked for their current job title, 2,750 respondents made 1,031 different responses. The most common were librarian and assistant librarian. More than half of all respondents earned less than £25,000. Three quarters of the respondents received additional benefits, the most prevalent being a pension. Only 87 percent indicated that they belonged to CILIP. Fifty-two percent were members of a union. Analyses of salary were carried out on two bases, a chi-squared statistic to examine differences in the salary band distribution between respondents from different groups, and analysis of variance to compare average salary between groups. As a follow-up to the initial analyses, three areas were investigated in more depth for each sector separately: age and staff responsibility; age and whether solo; and qualifications and staff responsibility.
